BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR WHEN ABS ACTIVATES FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE TURNED 50K MILES. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN TURNING AND HITTING A BUMP AT SLOW SPEEDS. THE BRAKE PEDAL USUALLY RECOVERS AFTER A FEW DAYS. THE VEHICLE WILL STOP DURING BRAKE FAILURE BUT THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT WILL STOP WHICH IS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. I GUESS SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO DIE BECAUSE OF THIS FACTORY DEFECT BEFORE A RECALL HAPPENS. MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO WAS BOUGHT NEW AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL MAINTAINED. IT HAS LESS THAN 60K MILES ON IT NOW. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS BRAKE MALFUNCTION BEFORE A DEATH OCCURS FROM IT.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ROUTINELY IN TOWN, SUDDENLY THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME VERY SOFT AND BRAKING ABILITY WAS SEVERELY IMPAIRED. PEDAL TRAVEL WAS VERY HIGH, WITH PEDAL ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE BRAKING COULD BE OBTAINED, AND BRAKING POWER WAS VERY LOW. VEHICLE WAS SUCCESSFULLY STOPPED, AND TURNED OFF. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUMPED WITH THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF, AND BRAKE PRESSURE RETURNED. RESTARTED VEHICLE AND BRAKING SYSTEM APPEARED TO OPERATE NORMALLY. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT OF BRAKING PROBLEMS WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. SEE REPORT 1072367 FOR DETAILS OF A PRIOR BRAKING FAILURE APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR EARLIER.
THE BRAKES IN MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO INTERMITTENTLY FAIL ABOUT ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH. THE BRAKE FAILURE, WHICH BEGAN TO OCCUR SOMETIME ON OR AFTER MID-2017, CAUSES THE BRAKE PEDAL TO LOSE PRESSURE, BECOMING 'SPONGY' MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STOP. WHEN THE BRAKE FAILURE OCCURS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ABS LIGHTS LIGHT UP AND NO ERROR CODES ARE SET. THE CONDITION MAY LAST ANYWHERE FROM A FEW MINUTES TO A COUPLE OF HOURS AND THEN RETURNS NORMAL. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED AT LEAST TWICE, HOWEVER THE SHOP CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. AS A PRECAUTION, I HAD THE BRAKE SYSTEM FLUSHED AND BLEEDED AND REPLACED ALL 4 BRAKE PADS, HOWEVER, THE BRAKE FAILURE CONTINUES TO OCCUR.
AIR DUCT ISSUE SAME AS DESCRIBED IN THE 2007 NISSAN MURANO RECALL. THIS IS CAUSING MY ENGINE TO STALL.
ON 02/07/2018 I WAS DRIVING AND HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. BRAKES WERE IMMEDIATELY MALFUNCTIONING & PETAL WENT TO FLOOR. I PUMPED BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES TO STOP. DROVE VEHICLE HOME AND PARKED. 03/16/2018 DROVE TO LOCAL SEARS (ABOUT 1 1/2 MILES). HAD VEHICLE SERVICED AND MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED IN ADDITION TO BLEEDING BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES, BUT PROBLEM WITH BRAKES WAS NOT RESOLVED. WAS ADVISED TO TAKE TO DEALER BECAUSE ABS WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY. VERY DANGEROUS!!! IT APPEARS MANY HAS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS & NHTSA IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING. IT ALSO APPEARS TO BE A PRETTY COSTLY REPAIR.
BRAKES ARE SPONGY AND WHEN THEY ARE APPLIED HARD THEY ALMOST GO TO THE FLOOR AND JUST BARELY STOP THE VEHICLE. IT HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE 3 TIMES AND SCARED HER TO DEATH.
AT 67000 MILES THE AIRBAG LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING . TOOK IT TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, PAID $100 FOR INSPECTION AND THEY FOUND CODE B1018 FOR AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE FAILURE AND QUOTED 1449.32 +TAX TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. SPOKE WITH NISSAN CUSTOMER CARE AND WAS ASSIGNED CASE NO. 29877528 ON 2-17-2018. ON 2-20-2018 WAS CONTACTED AND TOLD SINCE OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD, THEY WOULD DO NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I KNOW THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM IN THE PAST, BUT THEY WOULD NOT LISTEN. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY AND THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM.
THE ISSUE IS WHEN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ARE ENGAGED. AFTER THEY ARE ENGAGED THE BREAK PRESSURE IMMEDIATELY GOES SOFT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BREAKS. I HAVE REPORTED THIS FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS AND THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE THE EFFECT AND THAT THEY ARE FINE. IT ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN IN THE WINTER MONTHS WHEN ITS COLD. I HAVE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE CAR DOWN AND RESTART AGAIN. IT SEEMS TO RESET THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. IVE NOTICED THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION GOING ON AND WANTED TO REPORT WHAT I HAVE FOUND AS WELL. THE LATEST HAPPENED WHEN I WAS SLOWING DOWN AT A STOP SIGN AND HIT AN ICY PATCH WHICH THEN THE ANTILOCK BRAKE RUMBLED ENGAGING IT. AFTER I FINALLY STOPPED HALF WAY INTO THE INTERSECTION THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BRAKE PRESSURE WHAT SO EVER....I GUIDED THE CAR TO THE SIDE AND SAT FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED THE CAR BEFORE BRAKES CAME BACK.
AFTER HAVING MY 35 LB DOG SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT STARTS FLASHING I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND RESET SEVERAL TIMES. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN AFTER THE NEXT TIME I DRIVE THE CAR NOT IMMEDIATELY. I WAS ADVISED THAT IT IS THE OCS SENSORS AND IF IT HAPPEN AGAIN IT SHOULD BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $4,000. THE DEALER CHECKED FOR A RECALL NOTICE AND I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NONE. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AN UNSAFE CONDITION FOR ANY PASSENGER IN MY VEHICLE. EVERYTHING IS FUNCTIONING FOR NOW, BUT I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A NISSAN RESPONSIBILITY. THERE ARE ONLY 54,500 MILES ON THIS CAR.
THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL OF A SUDDEN TRAVELS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD. THIS EXCESSIVE TRAVEL HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY STREET. THE BRAKES DID FINALLY SLOWED MY VEHICLE BUT VERY CLOSE TO CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR ESTIMATE AND REPAIR. ESTIMATE THE NEXT DAY WAS REPLACE ABS CONTROL MODULE, FLUSHING FLUID, ETC. OF $3400. THE 2009 MURANO IS ONLY 84,000 MILES AND SHOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOMATIC BRACING SYSTEM. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM!!! WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL?
BRAKE PEDAL LOST PRESSURE AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR CAUSING A VERY LONG STOPPING DISTANCE. INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. APPEARS TO HAPPEN WHEN I SKID SLIGHTLY WHILE STOPPING LIKE ON SAND ON THE ROAD AND IT CAUSES THE ABS TO KICK IN BUT IT WILL NOT DISENGAGE. TOO TO MECHANIC TO HAVE IT CHECKED, TURNED IT OFF AND LATER WHEN THEY WENT TO CHECK IT THE PEDAL HAD RETURNED
BRAKE PEDAL WOULD, WITHOUT WARNING, LOOSE PRESSURE AND GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. COMING TO A NORMAL STOP OR FIRST ENGAGING DRIVE, PEDAL WOULD GO RIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND NO ABILITY TO STOP. THIS WAS INTERMITTENT AND INCONSISTENT. VERY DANGEROUS WITH NO BRAKES. DEALER REPLACED THE ABS ACTUATOR. DEFECTIVE ACTUATOR SEEMS COMMON AND A REAL SAFETY ISSUE.
MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES GOING ALL THE WAY DOWN AND NOT STOPPING THE VEHICLE ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN WITH THIS ISSUE AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM TO RESOLVE IT. THE HARD PART IS THIS IS TOTALLY RANDOM. DRIVING THIS CAR IS LIKE PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE. BOTH TIMES MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER WERE DRIVING, APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND THE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS AROUND. BOTH INCIDENTS THEY KEPT PUMPING THE BRAKES UNTIL THEY STARTED WORKING AGAIN. I BROUGHT THE POSSIBLE RECALL UP TO THE SERVICE TECH AND HE ASKED FOR THE VIN AND SAID THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE ANY RECALLS AT THIS MOMENT. SO ARE WE SUPPOSE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND HOPE THE BRAKES DO NOT FAIL? THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND WE ARE AT THE POINT OF TRADING IN THE VEHICLE AND NEVER BUYING A NISSAN AGAIN IF THAT'S HOW THEY TREAT THE SAFETY OF THEIR NISSAN OWNERS. BY THE LOOKS OF THESE REPORTS, MORE AND MORE DRIVERS ARE STARTING TO COMPLAIN. WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG TO ANNOUNCE RECALL WHEN THE LACK OF DOING SO COULD POSSIBLY TAKE SOMEONE'S LIFE?
ON 1/15/18, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON A SNOWY DAY. I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO TAKE A LEFT ONTO AN ON RAMP WHEN MY ABS KICKED IN. I CONTINUED TO SLIDE FORWARD AND NEARLY MISSED THE ON RAMP. FROM THAT POINT FORWARD, THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS BEEN "SOFT." I HAVE TO PUSH THE PEDAL DOWN AT LEAST HALFWAY BEFORE ANY BRAKING OCCURS AND TYPICALLY HAVE TO PUSH IT TO THE FLOOR TO FULLY STOP. I JUST GOT NEW BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS IN DECEMBER, SO THESE COMPONENTS ARE FINE. I TOOK IT IN TO NISSAN SERVICING, WHO TOLD ME THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THIS IS REPAIRED, WHICH WAS ESTIMATED TO BE A COST OF ~$2700 FOR PARTS AND LABOR.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH A SMALL ANIMAL RAN OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND CAUSED ME TO BRAKE HARD CAUSING THE ABS TO ACTIVATE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE HARD STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND I HAVE NO BRAKING ABILITY. BRAKE FLUID IS FINE AND UPON VISUAL INSPECTION NOTHING APPEARS DAMAGED ON THE PADS OR CALIPERS.
MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO HAS 78,000 MILES ON IT. SOMETIMES IF I BRAKE ON A BUMPY ROAD THE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKE POWER IS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED. NOBODY CAN TELL ME WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. I'VE HAD THE FLUID SYSTEM FLUSHED AND THE BRAKES CHECKED. NOT EVEN NISSAN'S DEALERSHIP UNDERSTANDS. PLEASE DO SOMETHING.
RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE (ABS) ACTUATOR PUMP ON MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE VEHICLE STARTED UP FINE WITH NO PROBLEMS AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE HIGHWAY WITH NO ISSUE AT ALL. IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT SO THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AT ALL AND WE WERE TRAVELING FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES ON CRUISE CONTROL (NO NEED TO BRAKE) UNTIL WE NEEDED TO EXIT. WHEN WE WERE TRYING TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY I NOTICED THERE WAS NOW A VERY LOW PEDAL, I HAD TO PUT THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR NOTIFICATION OF A FAILURE. WE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY RECENTLY HAVE BEEN REPLACING SEVERAL OF THESE ACTUATOR PUMPS ON THE MURANOS.
VEHICLE IN FORWARD MOTION...SLOW, LEAVING GARAGE. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. DID NOT "PUMP UP" AS WITH AIR IN LINES DURING DRIVE THROUGH AN ALLEYWAY. DEALERSHIP VERIFIED MY CONCERN AND FOUND ABS ACTUATOR FAILED INTERNALLY. OF NOTE: THE SERVICE ATTENDANT SUSPECTED WHAT WAS WRONG BEFORE THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED IN THE SHOP. "HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE." WHY WAS MY 2009 MODEL NOT INCLUDED IN A LATER RECALL? I BELIEVE THE PART FAILURE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN.
ON JANUARY 7, 2018 I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND THE STREET WAS A BIT ICY SO WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE ABS KICKED IN AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED WITH NO PROBLEM. HOWEVER, WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES AGAIN A COUPLE OF BLOCKS DOWN THE ROAD THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT CLEAR TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE SLOWLY STOPPED. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUED THE REST OF THE DRIVE HOME, WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. PUMPING THE BRAKES SEEMED TO HELP SOME AND THERE WAS RESISTANCE FROM THE PEDAL, BUT WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE PEDAL AGAIN WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THIS CONTINUED FOR A COUPLE DAYS. AFTER SOME RESEARCH ONLINE I DISCOVERED THIS WAS A COMMON COMPLAINT FOR 2009 NISSAN MURANOS. I FOUND SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS THAT DESCRIBED THE SAME PROBLEM, THE SOFT SPONGY BRAKE PEDAL, EITHER AFTER AN ABS STOP OR USING THE BRAKES FOR A BUMP OR POTHOLE. AND IT SEEMED LIKE THE MOST COMMON SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM WAS TO REPLACE THE ABS ACTUATOR AT A COST OF APPROX. $2500. NOT WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR. I TOOK MY NISSAN TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY VERIFIED THAT THIS INDEED WAS THE PROBLEM SO WITHOUT MUCH OTHER CHOICE WE HAD THE ACTUATOR REPLACED FOR $2450 - INVOICE ATTACHED. FROM WHAT I COULD TELL, THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM AND HAS BEEN REPORTED BY A NUMBER OF DRIVERS TO THE NHTSA BEGINNING IN 2012. THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION ONGOING (STARTED IN 2014) BUT SO FAR NO RECALL. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE'S BRAKES FAIL COMPLETELY AND THEY ARE INJURED OR KILLED.
1) AIRBAG LIGHT ALARM FOR PASSENGER SEAT GOES ON SUDDENTLY AFTER 80,000 MILES. AFTER DEALER INSPECTION, SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS) VARISTOR LOCATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION, AS MENTIONED IN YOUR NTB08-095 NOVEMBER 4, 2008 RECALL CAMPAIGN. FOUND IT STRANGE MY VEHICULE VIN IS NOT ASSOCIATED TO THIS COMPLAINT, BUT I HAVE THE PROBLEM. 2) ALTERNATOR SUDDENTLY DIED AFTER 80,000 MILES WITHOUT WARNING, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. HAD TIME TO PULL ON THE SIDE, BUT SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN DRAMATIC. SUDDENTLY VEHICULE REDUCED SPEED AND WENT FROM 60MPH TO 10MPH, THEN NO MORE BATTERY, SO COULD NOT LIGHT THE WARNING LIGHTS. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. PROBLEM HAVE BEEN REPORTED FOR MANY MURANO DIFFERENT YEARS, RECALLS WERE DONE FOR 2005 OR 2008 MURANO BUT NONE FOR 2009. A $1300 BILL AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. 3) PS: GOT AIRBAG LIGHT ALARM FOR PASSENGER SEAT RIGHT AFTER ALTERNATOR PROBLEM
TWO TIMES MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO HAS HAD BRAKE ISSUES AFTER THE ABS WAS ENGAGED. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TRYING TO STOP AT A CORNER. THERE WAS A LITTLE BIT OF SNOW ON THE GROUND. MY ABS ENGAGED AND THEN I COULDN'T STOP AT ALL. I WAS ABLE TO TAKE A RIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION AND REALIZED THAT THE ONLY WAY I COULD STOP MY VEHICLE WAS TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. NEVER BEFORE HAD I BEEN ABLE TO DEPRESS IT THAT FAR. I PULLED THE CAR OVER AND SHUT IT OFF. AFTER DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL 3 TIMES IT FELT LIKE NORMAL. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING STRUCTURALLY WRONG WITH OUR BRAKES. 2 WEEKS LATER MY HUSBAND WAS TRYING TO STOP AT A CORNER WHEN IT WAS THE SNOWING AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. HE PULLED IT OVER, SHUT DOWN THE CAR, PUMPED THE PEDAL AND IT CAME BACK TO NORMAL. WHEN I GOT HOME I GOOGLED THIS PROBLEM AND SAW ALL OF THESE PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NEITHER NISSAN OR THE GOVERNMENT HAS DONE ANYTHING YET. ARE THEY WAITING FOR A FATALITY?
WHEN BRAKING THE PEDAL HAS LITTLE EFFECT UPON STOPPING. IT SLOWS THE CAR SOME AT TOP OF STROKE THEN HALF STROKE STOPS BETTER THEN SINKS TO FLOOR. WHEN STOPPING ON A ROUGH ROAD THE ABS DOES NOT WORK PROPER AND THE PEDAL WILL SINK TO FLOOR AND TIRES WILL LOCK AND NOT RELEASE CAUSING A SKID. WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED CAN BUILD PRESSURE IN SYSTEM BUT WHEN STARTED AND THEN MOVE AND COME TO STOP THE CAR WILL SLOW AND PEDAL WILL SLOWLY SINK TOWARDS THE FLOOR AND LOCK THE BRAKES WHEN ALMOST AT BOTTOM. THIS JUST HAPPENED ON 1-4-2018. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE HAVE FOUND A LOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON DIFFERENT SITES.
BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY DOWN AND VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP. I NOTICE ONLINE THAT A LOT OF CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR AND VEHICLE MODEL. I HAVE READ HOW THEY HAD TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY ON PARTS AND LABOR BECAUSE THE MECHANICS COULDN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM, SO THEY STARTED DURING POWER OF ELIMINATION. I HAD MY MECHANIC TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG AND HE TRIED REPLACING MASTER CYLINDER WHICH COST ME SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AND THE PROBLEM REMAINED. I THEN TOOK IT TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WHICH WOULD COST ME $3000 DOLLARS PARTS AND LABOR, THE PART A LONE COST $1900 DOLLARS. DURING MY INVESTIGATION MANY MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT IS SAID THAT A RECALL MAY BE BEING LOOKED AT. THE ABS ACTUATOR IN MY CAR BEGAN TO FAIL AND HAD TO BE REPLACED BY NISSAN. WHEN TAPPING THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT CONTINUED TO HAVE PRESSURE AND PROPERLY SLOW THE CAR. HOWEVER, WHEN APPROACHING STOP LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, OR OTHERWISE BRAKING HARD (ANYTHING REQUIRING ME TO APPLY MORE STEADY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES), THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR REQUIRING ME TO INCREASE MY STOPPING DISTANCE. I WAS IN A NEAR-ACCIDENT INCIDENT WHEN SOMEONE WHO WAS STOPPED IN THE ADJACENT LANE QUICKLY PULLED OVER INTO MY LANE, REQUIRING ME TO APPLY RAPID BRAKE PRESSURE. THIS SITUATION WAS MADE WORSE BY ICY ROADS AND LEFT ME PANICKED AND CONCERNED. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $2,500.
AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT/OCS SYSTEM FAILURE. ACCORDING TO RECALL #08V521000, THERE IS A HISTORY WITH PROBLEMS WITH MY MAKE & MODEL OF VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TRY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE REPEATEDLY AND WHILE THEY TURN OFF THE DASHBOARD LIGHT ILLUMINATING THE PROBLEM, IT SIMPLY ILLUMINATES AGAIN IN A FEW DAYS. NOW THEY TELL ME I NEED TO PURCHASE A NEW SEAT CUSHION AT A COST OF ALMOST $5,000. MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING UP IN THE RECALL NOTICE BUT THIS IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING WITH MY CAR. I HAVE LESS THAN 57,000 MILES ON MY 2009 MURANO. AT 46,000 MILES, I HAD TO HAVE MY FAILED TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND I'M HAVING ISSUES AGAIN WITH IT SLIPPING INTO LOW GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, SO NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO ADDRESS IT. I HAD TO TAKE MY MURANO IN FOR SERVICE AGAIN BECAUSE I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT WHEN MY BRAKES DIDN'T WORK AT 30 MPH AND I HAD TO QUICKLY CHANGE LANES TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THERE WASN'T ANY BRAKE PRESSURE AND I HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDDLE TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT STOPPED.
LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE FOLLOWING ABS ACTIVATION. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AND WAS NOT TURNING. THE ROADS WERE PARTIALLY SNOW COVERED AND WHEN TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE THE ABS ACTIVATED. FOLLOWING THIS EVENT, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED 3/4'S IF THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN. WHEN I RETURNED HOME, I REPEATEDLY PUMPED THE BRAKES UNTIL NORMAL BRAKE PRESSURE WAS ACHIEVED. BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS FULL AND NO LEAK WAS FOUND UPON INSPECTION OF BRAKE SYSTEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS PARTIALLY REPAIRED UNTIL THE CONTACT COULD TAKE IT TO COULTER NISSAN (13301 N AUTOSHOW AVE, SURPRISE, AZ 85388) WHERE THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR OTHER MURANOS. *JS
DRIVING TO WORK IN REGULAR COMMUTER TRAFFIC, STOP AND GO, APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 20 MPH. I WENT OVER A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD WHILE I WAS SLOWING DOWN, AND IMMEDIATELY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. STOPPING DISTANCE WAS SEVERELY IMPACTED. I WOULD HAVE REAR-ENDED THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME HAD TRAFFIC NOT MOVED FORWARD BY THAT POINT. BRAKES REMAIN VERY POOR, WITH NO REAL BRAKE PRESSURE UNTIL THE BOTTOM 10% OF PEDAL TRAVEL. ABS SENSOR IS LOCKED INTO THE "RELEASE" POSITION NOW, AND AS A RESULT, THE PEDAL HAS TO TRAVEL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE SEEING ANY IMPACT TO THE CAR SPEED. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED IN A SCHOOL PARKING LOT, I WOULD HAVE RUN OVER A CHILD. PLEASE PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS ABS MODULE THAT IS FAILING ON 2009 MURANOS. THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL SOMEONE IS KILLED OR INJURED. IN DECEMBER 2017, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE BRAKES WENT SOFT AND ALL OF THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED SHORTLY THEREAFTER. ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE BLED. FOUR MONTHS LATER, THE BRAKES WENT SOFT AGAIN AND ALL OF THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. AFTER PUMPING THEM ABOUT 10 TIMES, THEY RETURN TO NORMAL. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED A SECOND TIME. SO FAR, THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN WORKING BUT AFRAID THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR ANY LONGER.
I HAVE HAD 3 BRAKE ISSUES IN LESS THAN 2 WEEKS. MY VEHICLE HAS 74,000 MILES ON IT AND IS MAINTAINED PER MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS. BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ARE A YEAR OLD AND PASSED INSPECTION. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE I WAS DRIVING 35 MPH AND HIT A MANHOLE COVER. THE BRAKES WENT SPONGY AND WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PUMPED THE BRAKES A FEW TIMES AND THEY RETURNED. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE I WAS DRIVING AROUND 40 MPH AND COMING AROUND A CURVE AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THE THIRD TIME IT WAS SNOWY AND VERY SLICK. UPON BRAKING ON A TURN, THE ABS ENGAGED AND I LOST ALL BRAKES AGAIN. THESE EXPERIENCES WERE VERY SCARY AS I HAD NOT CONTROL OVER MY VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER (WITH NO DOCUMENTED FAILURE). THE SECOND OCCURRENCE HAPPENED LESS THAN 5 DAYS LATER AND I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT,WHICH COST $3000 FOR PARTS AND LABOR! THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS IT IS DANGEROUS. I HAVE LOST FAITH IN NISSAN AS THEY HAVE NOT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE!

APLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY WENT DOWN ALL THE WAY AND THE CAR DID NOT STOP. I WENT THROUGH THE STOP SIGN INTO THE HIGHWAY WITH MY TWO DAUGHTERS 6 YEARS AND TENS YEARS OLD. I WAS SCARED. AVOIDED COLLISION FROM SEVERAL CARS ON THE HIGH WAY BY STEERING THE CAR OF THE ROAD TO THE GRASS. MY BRAKE PADS WERE SERVICED TWO MONTHS AGO BECOUSE THE SAMETHING HAPPENED. THEY SAY DUE TO NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON NISSAN FORUMS THAT THEY BELIEVE IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ABS MALFUNCTIONING AND NOT SIMPLY REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE REPLACED THIS PART FIRST ONLY TO NEED THE ABS REPLACED. WE TRIED PUMPING AND HOPING FOR A RESET BUT NOTHING HAS HELPED. NISSAN NEEDS TO DO A RECALL BEFORE A LIFE IS LOST DUE TO THIS KNOWN ISSUE. LOOKS LIKE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. HAVE BEEN TOLD BT LOCAL MECHANICS THEY SEE THIS PROBLEM ALL OF THE TIME AND NISSAN HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. 2009 NISSAN MURANO LE. DRIVING THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL AREA, TRAVELING AT ROUGHLY 25 MPH. ROAD WAS DRY, SKY WAS CLEAR, VEHICLE WAS WARM AND HAD BEEN DRIVEN EARLIER IN DAY WITH NO ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN DEALER MAINTAINED AND ONLY HAS 74000 MILES ON IT AND HAD JUST BEEN DEALER INSPECTED 2 WEEKS PRIOR. APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, BEGAN NORMAL BRAKING. THERE WAS A SMALL POT HOLE OR REALLY JUST A ROUGH SPOT IN THE ROAD I DROVE THROUGH WHILE BRAKING, AND LOST ALL BRAKE PRESSURE, PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR BUT WAS NOT ENGAGING THE BRAKES OR STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I BEGAN PUMPING THE BRAKES AND WAS THANKFULLY ABLE TO STOP, BUT NOT BEFORE I WAS WELL PAST THE STOP SIGN AND INTO THE INTERSECTION. THANKFULLY NO OTHER CARS WERE THERE. DRIVING STRAIGHT HOME FROM THERE THE PEDAL WAS STILL VERY SOFT, OR SPONGY AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THEY REQUIRED PUMPING OR VARIED PRESSURE TO ENGAGE, AND THEN WOULD NOT PROVIDE PEDAL PRESSURE OR FEED BACK. IF PUSHED SLOW TO NORMALLY, YOU COULD PUSH THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR STILL WHILE TRYING TO STOP. HUSBAND INSPECTED ALL BRAKE FLUIDS AND VACUUM LINES AND FOUND NO LEAKS, OR LOSS OF FLUID. WITH THE VEHICLE OFF PUMPING BRAKES NOT BUILDING PRESSURE. A SIMPLE SEARCH FOR "2009 MURANO SPONGY BRAKES" RETURNED MANY PEOPLE THROUGH MANY FORUMS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, THAT SEEMS TO BE BASED ON BRAKING ON A BUMPY ROAD AND THE ABS SYSTEM. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND A ABS SOLENOID IS STUCK FROM THE ABS ENGAGING ON A BUMPY ROAD, OR UNEVEN SURFACE. THIS ISSUE IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND I WOULD NOT DOUBT HAS CAUSED MANY ACCIDENTS. THERE IS ALSO NO WARNING SIGNS AS THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP 2 WEEKS PRIOR. VERY SCARY, AND HAD A VEHICLE BEEN IN THE INTERSECTION, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO WAY TO AVOID A ACCIDENT.
OUR BRAKES BECAME SPONGY AND DID NOT WORK WHEN DRIVING.AT A SPEED OF 35 MPH. EVENTUALLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO REPLACED THE ABS ACTUATOR AT A COST OF $2176 FOR PART, $528 FOR LABOR AND $69 FOR DIAGNOSIS. WE FEEL NISSAN SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS VERY DANGEROUS ACTUATOR. WE WERE ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET SO OUR SPEED WAS 35 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES WENT OUT ABRUPTLY. WE ARE APPALLED THAT THE COMPANY IS CHARGING EXORBITANT PART PRICES AND ALLOWING HIGH LABOR FEES TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE AND LIFE THREATENING ABS ACTUATOR. THE DEALER TOLD US THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR REDUCING THE COSTS. IT IS TOTALLY UP TO NISSAN TO ADJUST THESE COSTS. MANY PEOPLE COULD LOSE THEIR LIVES BECAUSE THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION IS NOT COMMUNICATED TO OWNERS OF 2009 NISSAN MURANOS.

BRAKES FUNCTIONED NORMALLY UNTIL VEHICLE HIT A BUMP, THEN PEDAL GRADUALLY WENT DOWN FURTHER TO FLOORBOARD. BRAKING STILL POSSIBLE BUT TOOK POWER SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED AND DISTANCE INCREASED. I PUMPED THE BRAKES A FEW TIMES AND ALL SEEMED TO RETURN TO NORMAL. ON THE FIRST OCCASION I GOT OUT TO CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL; STILL FILLLED TO MAX LEAVING LINE IN RESERVOIR. I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY AND CAUTIOUSLY DRIVE HOME. ALL BRAKE PADS ARE NEW, CHANGED IN MARCH 2017. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE; EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION FOR DRIVER AND OTHER MOTORISTS / PEDESTRIANS.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, TRAVELLING AT A SPEED OF ROUGHLY 35MPH. I WENT OVER A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD AND WENT TO APPLY BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID I NEEDED A NEW MASTER CYLINDER. I REPLACED IT. A WEEK LATER DRIVING MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL I WAS STOPPING NORMALLY WHEN AGAIN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. NOW THE DEALERSHIP STATES THEIR "BEST GUESS" TO REPAIR IS TO REPLACE THE ABS ACTUATOR. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THIS WILL REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THIS WAS ESCALATED TO THE LEVEL OF THE NISSAN ENGINEER BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP (JEFF SCHMITT NISSAN IN BEAVERCREEK, OHIO) WHICH IS A CERTIFIED NISSAN DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM INTERNALLY.
BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY GOT SOFT AND WENT TO THE FLOOR AS I EXITED THE HIGHWAY ALMOST CAUSING A REAR END COLLISION. MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED BUT BRAKES REMAIN THE SAME WITH BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR. AFTER RESEARCHING ON LINE IT APPEARS THAT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE IS TO BLAME BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED BY NISSAN !
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE CONTACT HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL AND DRIVE SLOWLY TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER (NORTH STRAND NISSAN (2502 HIGHWAY 9 E, LITTLE RIVER, SC 29556) BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 29027847. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL NUMEROUS TIMES AS IT TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE OCCUPANT SENSOR UNIT FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO A DEALER (TONY NISSAN, 94-1299 KA UKA BLVD, WAIPAHU, HI 96797, (808) 680-7150) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 08V521000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 08V066000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
