WHEN DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME RAPIDLY SLOWED, CAUSING ME TO NEED TO BRAKE RAPIDLY AS WELL. UPON APPLYING MY BRAKES, THEY ENGAGED AND THEN INSTANTLY RELEASED AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHERE THE BRAKES FINALLY REENGAGED, ALLOWING ME TO SLOW. HAD I NOT BEEN SEVERAL CAR LENGTHS BACK, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP. ONCE THIS OCCURRED, EACH TIME I HAD TO BRAKE, THE BRAKES WOULD PERFORM A LITTLE BETTER, BUT REMAINED SPONGY. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP, I PUMPED THE BRAKES A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THEY WORKED PROPERLY FROM THAT POINT ON. UPON CHECKING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE FLUID AND BRAKES WERE ALL IN GOOD SHAPE AND THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE EXPLANATION FOR THE PROBLEM. BASED ON INTERNET RESEARCH, HOWEVER, THIS APPEARS TO BE THE PROBLEM THAT IS CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED.
ON 11/15/17 THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR ON OUR 2009 NISSAN MURANO WHEN STOPPING AT AN INTERSECTION. IT WAS RAINING AT THE TIME. THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO GO TO THE FLOOR WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP MULTIPLE TIMES FOR ABOUT 2 MILES. TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON WITH SAME RESULT. TOWED TO OUR LOCAL MECHANICS WHO FOUND NOTHING WRONG MECHANICALLY BUT FOUND CODES IN THE ABS SYSTEM. BRAKE PEDAL RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTION ON ITS OWN. MECHANICS LEFT CODES AND RECOMMENDED TO TAKE TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP 11/27/17. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE ONLY CODES FOUND IN ABS SYSTEM WERE OLD AND DID NOT INDICATE BRAKE PROBLEM. NO DEFECTS FOUND. DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED TO BRING BACK IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, THIS TIME IN OUR DRIVEWAY WITH SNOW. TOWED THE MURANO TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 12/13/17. DESCRIPTION FROM DEALERSHIP READ, "FOUND BRAKE PEDAL VERY SOFT AND LOW. NO LEAKS FOUND IN BRAKE SYSTEM, NO CODES FOUND IN ABS ECU. BRAKE PRESSURE DOES NOT PUMP UP. NO AIR IN SYSTEM AND BACK OF MASTER CYLINDER IS DRY. BRAKE BOOSTER PASSES ALL TESTING, ALSO PEDAL IS LOW WHEN CAR IS OFF, SO BOOSTER NOT FAULT. INTERNAL HYDRAULIC PRESSURE FAILURE IN EITHER THE MASTER CYLINDER OR ABS ACTUATOR. CANNOT TEST EITHER COMPONENT SEPARATE. NO BULLETINS, BUT MANY REPORTS IN DATABASE SEARCH OF ABS ACTUATOR/S CAUSING THIS EXACT PROBLEM." COST $2,481.53 TO REPLACE ACTUATOR. JUST PICKED UP TODAY AND WILL BE VERY CAUTIOUS WITH VEHICLE HAVING LOST CONFIDENCE IN IT. IT IS VERY CONCERNING THAT THERE WAS NOTHING TO INDICATE A PROBLEM (NO ALARMS, LIGHTS, WARNINGS) BEFORE THIS ISSUE OCCURRED BOTH TIMES.
ONLY 70K MILES ON THE CAR. BRAKES WENT SOFT ALL OF A SUDDEN IN A CITY ENVIRONMENT AFTER GOING OVER A MANHOLE COVER. GOT TO DESTINATION ( PARKING GARAGE). WHEN DONE AT LOCATION BRAKES STILL SOFT AND WENT ALMOST TO FLOOR. GOT THE CAR HOME AND TOOK THE CAR TO REPAIR, WAS TOLD THAT IT AS AN ABS MODULE ASSEMBLY. ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND HAD TO SPEND SIGNIFICANT MONEY TO GET FIXED
I EXPERIENCED FOR THE THIRD TIME A BRAKE MALFUNCTION THURSDAY NIGHT 2/2/17. I WAS CAREFULLY DRIVING HOME ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD AND I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO MAKE A TURN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THE FIRST AND SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED UNDER A HARD BRAKING SITUATION ON WET ROADS. IN THE PAST THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN PERIODIC BUT THE CONDITION HAS NOW EXISTED CONTINUALLY FOR ABOUT 1 WEEK. THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES NEARLY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE BRAKING BEGINS AND THERE IS NO ABS. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER A FEW MONTHS AGO AND THEY PERFORMED A BRAKE FLUSH AND REFILL. THE VERY NEXT DAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN. SOMETIMES THE BRAKES START ACTING NORMALLY AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL MULTIPLE TIMES. BUT THE DANGEROUS CONDITION ALWAYS RETURNS SEEMINGLY AT RANDOM UNDER MULTIPLE ROAD CONDITIONS AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THERE HAVE BEEN 2 NEAR MISS COLLISIONS. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. *JS
LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE. THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY GET DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE SHEEHY NISSAN DEALER IN WALDORF, MARYLAND HAD FIXED IT FOR TWO WEEKS BUT CANNOT SOLVE THAT PROBLEM. IN NISSAN FORUM, MANY NISSAN OWNERS HAVE THE IDENTICAL PROBLEMS LIKE THIS.
11/04/2017, I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO, 62,528 MILES. I CAME ACROSS A ROAD STRIP GETTING READY FOR TARRING. WHEN I FELT THE SHAKE, I APPLIED THE BRAKE SLOWLY AND I FELT THE BRAKE PEDAL SOFT. ABOUT 100 YARDS FROM ME I HAVE TO STOP AT THE RED LIGHT. I TRIED PUSHING HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I ENDED UP STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. ALL THE BRAKING AND YELLING FROM OTHER DRIVERS, LUCKILY, NOBODY HITS ME. MY WIFE AND CHILD IN THE CAR GOT PANICKED. DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE CURB AND STOPPED WITH SOFT BRAKE PEDAL. SWITCHED OFF THE VEHICLE FOR 5 MINUTES AND STATED AND EVERYTHING SEEMS OKAY. NOTICED THAT NO INDICATOR(ESPECIALLY BRAKE INDICATOR) WAS LIGHTED UP DURING THIS ORDEAL. MONDAY CALLED THE DEALER AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT. AS PER THE DEALER, THIS ISSUE IS REPORTED BY OTHER 2009 MURANO OWNERS AND IT COSTS AROUND $3000 TO FIX AS THERE IS NO RECALL ISSUED YET.
THE REAR SUB FRAME HAS RUSTED SO MUCH THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE CONTROL ARM FOR THE WHEEL IS LOOSE, AND THE DRIVERS SIDE CONTROL ARM BROKE AWAY. THERE IS SURFACE RUST ON OTHER COMPONENTS UNDER THE VEHICLE, BUT THIS PART OF THE FRAME HAS COMPLETELY DETERIORATED AND RENDERS THE VEHICLE UNUSABLE UNLESS THE SUBFRAME AND CONTROL ARMS ARE REPLACED. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS WILL NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM OTHER THAN TO STATE THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. HOWEVER, ONLINE RESEARCH AND INFORMATION FROM MY AUTO REPAIR SHOP TELL ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MURANO'S.
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 55 MPH AND A DEER RAN IN FRONT OF MY CAR. I HIT THE BRAKES HARD BUT COULDN'T STOP IN TIME (THE DEER DIED) AND WHEN I DID FINALLY DID ACHIEVE A STOP I NOTICED MY BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THEY WERE VERY SPONGY AND TOOK A HUGE DISTANCE TO STOP THE CAR THE REST OF THE DRIVE HOME, EVEN AT SPEEDS UNDER 35 MPH. I THOUGHT MAYBE THE COLLISION CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY BRAKES SOMEHOW. A MECHANIC BLED MY BRAKES AND RESTORED FUNCTIONALITY, AND CAREFULLY INSPECTED EVERYTHING BUT COULD NOT FIND ANY DAMAGE. A FEW WEEKS LATER IT SNOWED AND WHEN MY CAR SLID ON SOME ICE WHILE BRAKING INTO A TURN, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN. I HAD THE BRAKES BLED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE THOROUGHLY INSPECTED BUT AGAIN THEY FOUND NOTHING. THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER. BEFORE I COULD GET THAT WORK DONE, ANOTHER SNOW CAUSED SLIPPERY ROADS WHICH AGAIN CAUSED MY BRAKES TO GO SPONGY WHEN BRAKING ON A PATCH OF ICE. MY MECHANIC RECOMMENDED I CONTACT NISSAN AND DURING MY RESEARCH I FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FOR 2009 NISSAN MURANOS WITH SIMILAR CONDITIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO REPLACE THE ABS HCU (AVERAGE COST, $2500). TWO DIFFERENT NISSAN DEALERS AND THEIR CORPORATE REPS SAY THEY KNOW NOTHING OF THE PENDING NHTSA INVESTIGATION ON THIS PROBLEM.
AS I APPROACHED A STOP,WANTING TO MAKE A TURN , THERE WAS A LIGHT PATCH OF ICE. I APPLIED THE BRAKES NORMALLY & PEDAL SUNK TO THE FLOOR & I ALMOST CRASHED, LUCKILY THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS IN MY PATH. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I AM A COMMERCIAL TRUCK DRIVER & HAD NEVER HEARD OF LOSING BRAKES TO THIS ISSUE BEFORE. I PROPERLY MAINTAIN MY CARS.TOOK MY 09 MURANO TO A MECHANIC. & TOLD ME IT WAS MOST LIKELY THE ABS MODULE $2000 JUST THE PART ,OR THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER $150 JUST THE PART. REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER. & STILL NOT FIXED . PROBLEM WAS THE ABS MODULE. NISSAN NEEDS TO DO A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED DO TO THIS. EVEN THOUGH THE MAIN FOCUS IS SADLY ON QUARTERLY NUMBERS GAINS/LOSSES. I HAD REACHED OUT TO NISSAN & DIDNT HEAR BACK FROM THEM. GUESS IT WOULDVE BEEN DIFFERENT IF I HAD SAID I WAS LOOKING TO BUY A CAR.
APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS AGO THE DRIVER'S SIDE BACK SEAT EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE STOPPED FUNCTIONING. IT IS STILL ATTACHED TO THE DOOR, BUT BASICALLY FLAPS LOOSELY, AND DOES NOT OPERATE WHATEVER DOOR OPENING MECHANISM SHOULD BE ENGAGED WHEN THE DOOR HANDLE IS USED TO OPEN THE DOOR. TWO MONTHS AGO, THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE DRIVERS DOOR. A FLAPPY LOOSE, INOPERABLE DOOR HANDLE. BOTH DOOR HANDLES STILL OPERATE FROM THE INTERIOR. THE CAR HAS VERY LOW MILES(86,000 MILES), AND IS MAINTAINED IN REASONABLE OPERATING CONDITION. ONE DEALSER HAS QUOTED APPROXIMATELY $600 TO FIX THE ISSUE FOR EACH DOOR, AND ONE DEALER I CONTACTED WANTED AN ADDITIONAL $130 TO PROVIDE A REPAIR ESTIMATE FOR EACH DOOR. (SERIOUSLY, $260 TO TELL ME THAT SOME CHEAP PLASTIC PART THAT ENGAGES THE DOOR MECHANISM IS BROKEN)' MY IMMEDIATE CONCERN IS THAT BOTH MY WIFE AND I HAVE SIGNIFICANT DISABILITIES, AND IN THE EVENT THAT WE REQUIRE EMERGENCY OR PARAMEDIC SERVICES WHILE LOCKED IN THE CAR, IF WE ARE NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FOR THE EMT'S, DEPENDING ON THE LOCATION OF THE CAR, WE MAY BE DENIED LIFE SAVING EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WHILE JAWS OF LIFE ARE USED TO EXTRICATE US FROM THE VEHICLE, DELAYING MEDICAL SERVICES AS WELL AS DESTROYING WHAT MAY BE AN OTHERWISE 'GOOD CAR'. AFTER REBATES AND FACTORY INCENTIVES I PAID $36,000 CASH FOR THIS NEW CARE, 9 YEARS AGO. IT IS OUT OF REGULAR WARRANTY, PLUS EXTENDED WARRANTY. NISSAN USA HAS DENIED COVERAGE. I AM SHOCKED AT THE LACK OF CONCERN FOR SAFETY. I AM SHOCKED THAT A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE SUCH A DUMB PART FAILURE. I AM DUMB FOUNDED OVER THE COST TO REPAIR WHAT IS BECOMING A KNOWN ISSUE IN OPENING A 'DAMN' DOOR. DEALERS HAVE HIGH PRICES FOR LABOR, AND AFTER MARKET PARTS RECEIVE A 4-5 TIMES MARKUP OVER COST TO MAKE A PART, BUT I AM SCARED ABOUT POTENTIAL FOR HARM, AND THE LACK OF FACTORY ASSISTANCE.
AFTER ENCOUNTERING A SLICK SPOT ON THE ROAD, I LOST ALL CAPABILITY TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND STOP IN A SAFE DISTANCE. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD TO SWERVE INTO AN ADJACENT LANE OF TRAFFIC TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME.
BRAKES WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND AT TIMES CAN NOT STOP THE CAR. THEY BLEEDED THE BRAKE LINE AND CHANGED THE FLUID, THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND AFTER A MONTH IS IT ACTING UP AGAIN. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME IS IS THE ABS SYSTEM. I ONLY HAVE 74000 MILES ON MY CAR AND IT SHOULD NOT BE HAPPEN. THIS SHOULD REALLY BE RECALLED. ONE DAY I WILL GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE A FEW NEAR MISSES. THANK YOU
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING NOISE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LECKNER NISSAN (6570 AMHERST AVE, SPRINGFIELD, VA 22150) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER AND EXHAUST NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED A CASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN APPLYING BRAKE DURING DRIVING, BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO FLOOR CAUSING THE CAR TO NOT STOP AS NORMAL, ALMOST RESULTING IN TWO SEPARATE ACCIDENTS. ALSO, WHEN STARTING THE CAR, BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO FLOOR. DOES NOT HAPPEN CONSISTENTLY, BUT SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST MONTH. MIDAS REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, AS THEY SUGGESTED, BUT THE INCIDENT HAPPENED TWICE AFTER. ALL TIMES WERE ON CITY STREETS. INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL LIGHT TOUCH NEEDED I'VE USED SINCE 2009, I HAD TO STOMP THE BRAKE COMPLETELY TO GET IT TO STOP AND AVOID ACCIDENTS.
VEHICLE LOOSES BRAKE PRESSURE FREQUENTLY ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENT. BRAKES RETURN TO NORMAL AFTER 15-20 MINUTES IDLE STATE. CAR MECHANIC UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES AND LUCKILY THE CAR WAS ENTERING A PARKING LOT SO SPEED WAS VERY SLOW.REALLY WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING THIS CAR ON HIGHWAY. CALLED DEALER SERVICE AND THEY SAID IT WOULD TAKE ~ $3000 TO FIX A PROBLEM HOWEVER THE FIX IS NOT GUARANTEED. READING FROM OTHER FORUMS, PROBLEM RETURNS EVEN AFTER APPLYING FIX TO ABS. BACK IN 05/17,
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN REPAIR CENTER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
AFTER DRIVING OVER TWO BUMPS / RIDGES IN THE ROAD CAUSED BY LANE RESURFACING PROCESS, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND PROVIDE NO STOPPING POWER. I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES TO SLOW DOWN IN ORDER TO TURN INTO THE PARKING LOT AT WORK. WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPOT, THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND I AGAIN HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO SLOW AND STOP THE CAR. I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY FIVE HOURS LATER AND STARTED THE VEHICLE TO GO HOME. UPON DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AFTER STARTING THE CAR, THE PEDAL WET TO THE FLOOR AGAIN. I AGAIN, HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL TO BUILD PRESSURE. I DECIDED TO DRIVE HOME, APPROXIMATELY 13 MILES, AWARE THAT I WOULD NEED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL FREQUENTLY TO ENSURE THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAD THE NEEDED PRESSURE TO SLOW DOWN AND/OR STOP. THE SUBSEQUENT DRIVE HOME WAS UNEVENTFUL. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2009 AND HAS 103, 431 MILES ON IT.
MY CAR JUST HIT 90K MILES AND I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN TRAFFIC SUDDENLY STOPPED. I TRIED TO QUICKLY STOP BUT MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR WAS HARDLY SLOWING DOWN. AFTER NEARLY HITTING THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME, I WAS ABLE TO SWERVE INTO THE NEXT LANE. THE BRAKES WERE MUSHY AFTER THAT BUT THEY SLOWED THE CAR A BIT MORE. NISSAN DID A BRAKE FLUSH BUT THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED A WEEK LATER WHEN I WENT OVER A BUMP. THE ABS KICKED IN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. MY NISSAN DEALER CLAIMS THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. I THINK IT'S A RECALL BASED ON THE NUMBER OF CASES I'VE READ ONLINE.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON FOR NO REASON. THE BRAKES GO TO THE FLOOR EVERY NOW AND THEN FOR NOW REASON WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES SLOWLY. WHEN IS HAPPENS IT TAKES A WHILE TO STOP.
I WAS ON THE ROAD WITH TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLES IN FRONT WERE BREAKING. AS I TRIED TO BREAK MY BREAK PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND WAS NOT STOPPING MY VEHICLE. I ALMOST RAN INTO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, WHICH IF MY BREAKING SYSTEM DID NOT FAIL I WOULD HAVE HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP. TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE ABS ACTUATOR AND MASTER CYLINDER. WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THE REGIONAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS SPECIALIST AT NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA.
IN DECEMBER 2016 I HIT A BUMP AND LOST ALL BRAKE PRESSURE. TOOK CAR IN TO NISSAN DEALER AND THEY SAID THE "SEAL" WAS BAD AND REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER. TODAY, ON MY WAY TO WORK HIT A BUMP AND AGAIN LOST ALL BRAKE PRESSURE!!! PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZZARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CORAL SPRING NISSAN (9350 W ATLANTIC BLVD, CORAL SPRING, FL 33071, PHONE (954) 753-1700) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR AND BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,000.
WOULD LOSE BRAKE PRESSURE GOING OVER A MANHOLE COVER/ANY UNEVEN SURFACE WHILE BRAKING, GENERALLY BRAKING TO A STOP. THIS WOULD HAPPEN PERIODICALLY FOR ABOUT A YEAR (2016-2017). ON 9/3/2017 I WAS BRAKING FOR A RED LIGHT, WENT OVER A MANHOLE COVER AND LOST ALL BRAKE PRESSURE. VEHICLE WOULD STOP BUT YOU WOULD NEED TO PRESS THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DETERMINED THE ABS CONTROL UNIT WAS INOPERABLE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE UNIT 9/14/17. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER (28309423) BUT WAS NEVER CONTACTED. I AM REPORTING THIS NOW AS MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT RECALL AND I FEEL IT SHOULD BE.
TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CAR WILL JUST SLOW UP FOR NO REASON, LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS FAILING OR THE ENGINE LOSES POWER, CLIMBS HILLS VERY SLOWLY.
I HAVE HAD A SPONGY BREAK PEDAL THAT WOULD GO ALL THE WAY TO THE GROUND WHEN DEPRESSED AND NOT BUILD UP PRESSURE. MULTIPLE INSPECTIONS DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BREAK SYSTEM. THE DASH BOARD LIT UP ABOUT A WEEK AGO SHOWING THAT THE ABS MODULE FAILED. APPLYING THE BRAKE FEELS ABOUT THE SAME STILL BUT I LOST ABS, STABILITY AND TRACTION CONTROL.

WHILE DRIVING MY MURANO AND COMING UP TO A STOPLIGHT THE BRAKES FOR NO APPARENT REASON WERE SUDDENLY EXTREMELY SOFT THAT I HAD TO ALMOST FULLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR STOPPED BEFORE I ENTERED THE INTERSECTION AND NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL AUTO SHOP AND THEY DIAGNOSED AS THE ABS UNIT FAILED BUT I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO DEALER. WENT TO NISSAN DEALER WHO DID DIAGNOSTICS TEST WHICH INDICATED A BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE EVEN THOUGH I SUGGESTED IT WAS THE ABS UNIT THAT HAD FAILED BASED ON MY MECHANICS DIAGNOSES. DEALER REPLACED BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER BUT DID NOT CORRECT THE BRAKE PROBLEM. THEY THEN REPLACED THE ABS HYDRAULIC UNIT WHICH DID CAUSE PROBLEM TO GO AWAY. TOTAL REPAIR COST WAS $2,479. WE HAVE A SECOND 2009 NISSAN MURANO THAT JUST HAD THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN TO ITS BRAKES. THERE IS CLEARLY A FAILURE IN THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM THAT NISSAN IS CLEARLY IGNORING WHICH IS CLEARLY PUTTING CONSUMERS AT RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH. HOPE THE NTSB SPEEDS UP THEIR INVESTIGATION BEFORE SOME PERSON OR FAMILY DIES DUE TO THIS ABS BRAKING FAILURE
DURING NORMAL BRAKING ON BUMPY ROAD AT ABOUT 40MPH , BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY DROPPED ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKING CAPABILITY WAS MUCH REDUCED. DROVE HOME CAREFULLY AND CHECKED BRAKE FLUID LEVEL - OK. TRIED RESTARTING CAR AND AT REST THE PEDAL WAS STILL GOING ALMOST TO FLOOR. NO ERROR INDICATIONS ON DASH. I GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE SYMPTOMS ON THE 2009 MURANO AND SUGGESTIONS TO RESET THE THE ABS MODULE. I PULLED THE ABS FUSE AND RESTARTED CAR AGAIN. PEDAL NOW FIRM AND FIXED. REPLACED FUSE, PEDAL STILL OK STRONGLY SUGGESTING THAT THE ABS WAS AT FAULT. THIS SUDDEN FAILURE RESULTED IN PARTIAL LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY AND IS THUS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT I HOPE YOU WILL INVESTIGATE GIVEN THE NUMBER OF ALMOST IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST BRAKE PRESSURE. BRAKES BECAME SPONGY AND ONLY ABRUPTLY STOPPED WHEN BRAKE PEDAL PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD. STOPPING DISTANCE WAS GREATLY INCREASED. UNABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE DUE TO HIGH CONCERNS WITH CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
EVEN THOUGH MY CAR IS NOT REGISTERED IN THE CURRENT "CAMPAIGN" (NISSAN'S EUPHEMISM FOR A RECALL) NONETHELESS, MY AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASH IS FLASHING, INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM MAY BE FAULTY. NISSAN REFUSES TO FIX IT WITHOUT A FULL DIAGNOSTIC GOING OVER (ABOUT $100 FEE) AND DOES NOT SEEM TO CARE THAT A PASSENGER IN MY CAR COULD GET KILLED IF THE AIRBAG FAILS TO DEPLOY. MY CAR IS A 2009 MURANO WITH ONLY 59,000 MILES ON IT.
THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AFTER HITTING A BUMP. THE PRIVATE GARAGE AND DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THIS IS THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE. THEY SAID HE HAS SEEN OTHER NISSAN MURANOS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. HE ALSO STATED THAT HE HAS ATTEMPTED TO PUT STOCKYARD ATS SYSTEMS IN OTHER MURANOS WHICH HAVE FAILED BUT THEN HAS HAD TO REPLACE THOSE BECAUSE THEY FAILED. THIS IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM AND THEY NEED TO BE RECALLED.
I FELT MY BRAKE PEDAL BECOME VERY SOFT. LIKE IT WAS HITTING THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. FEEL LIKE IT HIT THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. TO THE FLOOR IN MY MURANO. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE CHANGED THE FRONT BREAKS AND ROTORS BUT SAID HE WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THE PEDAL STILL FELT VERY SOFT. I TOOK MY MURANO TO THE DEALER ON 8-7-17 FOR A SQUISHY BRAKE PEDAL CONCERN. THE TECHNICIAN CONNECTED THE CONSULT 3 NISSAN SCAN TOOL TO THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSTICS SYSTEM AND FOUND THAT NO CODES WERE STORED IN THE SYSTEM. TECHNICIAN THEN CHECKED ALL OF THE BRAKE CALIPERS FOR ANY ABNORMALITIES AND ALL CHECKED OUT OKAY. DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED HAVING THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED. I AUTHORIZED. TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND NOTED THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT BETTER BUT IT WAS NOT 100%. I EXPLAINED I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, GIVEN THE BRAKES WEREN'T WORKING 100%. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE NEXT STEP WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTUATOR. TOTAL FOR REPAIRS $3242. I WAS VERY UPSET WITH THIS SOLUTION. I CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERN ABOUT MY BRAKES AND I MENTIONED THAT I FOUND OUT THE US GOV HIGHWAY SAFETY AGENCY IS INVESTIGATING THE MALFUNCTIONING BRAKES ON 2009 MURANO'S. THEY DISMISSED MY CASE AND SAID THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM.

I HAVE PULLED INTO TRAFFIC ONLY TO HAVE MY CAR NOT ACCELERATE CAUSING THE CAR BEHIND ME TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES. TODAY, THE CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO PULL OVER INTO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID HITTING ME. OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, I'VE TAKEN MY CAR INTO NISSAN SERVICE COMPLAINING ABOUT A RUMBLING NOISE/FEELING, THE CAR INTERMITTENTLY FAILS TO AND/OR HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING. THE CAUSE OF THESE SYMPTOMS WERE NEVER DIAGNOSED PROPERLY. NOW THE SYMPTOMS OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY. THE LOSS OF SPEED AND/OR THE ABILITY OF NOT GAINING SPEED ALONG WITH THE NORMAL FLOW OF TRAFFIC COULD CAUSE SOMEBODY TO HIT AND/OR KILL ME! THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, TODAY I WAS LUCKY BY NOT GETTING HIT. A FEW WEEKS AGO, BECAUSE THE SYMPTOMS HAPPENS MORE CONSISTENTLY NISSAN DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A TRANSMISSION (CVT) ISSUE. ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE ADMITTED A DEFECT IN THEIR CVT TRANSMISSIONS, THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR IT BECAUSE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE RECORDS WHICH SHOWS I TOOK MY CAR TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT NISSAN SERVICE DEPTS. COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, JUST DOING A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH, I DISCOVERED NISSAN'S CVT HAS ALLEGEDLY BEEN BLAMED FOR A COUPLE OF DEATHS AND MULTIPLE CAR ACCIDENTS. IT'S A HAZARD TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE, AND NISSAN SHOULD RECALL AND REPLACE ALL OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS. AS I SAID PREVIOUSLY, TODAY I WAS LUCKY, THE NEXT TIME I MAY NOT BE! THE ONLY THING MISSING IS ON JULY 5, 2017 I RECEIVED A CALL FROM WADE (NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS) STATING THEY STILL ARE NOT GOING TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION.

THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY. UPON BRAKING SUDDENLY DUE TO A RED LIGHT, TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40MPH, THE BRAKES LOST PRESSURE, AND THE PEDAL HAD TO BE PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO VEER INTO A TURN LANE TO AVOID COLLISION WITH THE CARS STOPPED AT THE STOP LIGHT. AFTER BEING PARKED AND SHUT DOWN FOR 30 MINUTES, BRAKE PRESSURE RETURNED. THE VEHICLE HAS 59,817 MILES. IT RECEIVES REGULAR SERVICE ONLY AT NISSAN DEALERSHIPS, HAS NEW BRAKE PADS, AND FULL BRAKE FLUID. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE HAS DISPLAYED THIS BEHAVIOR, WITH THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRING SOMETIME LAST YEAR THOUGH NOT AS SEVERELY.

IWENT OVER A SLIGHT DIP LEAVING A BUSINESS PARKING LOT ON TO THE ROAD AND WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ENGAGING THE BRAKES. I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. IF I DID NOT HAVE MUCH MORE THAN THE USUAL DISTANCE AVAILABLE TO STOP, THE RESULTS WOULD HAVE BEEN BAD. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AS THAT WAS WHAT THE SYMPTOMS SUGGESTED, BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. I THEN TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER, WHO I WAS SURPRISED DID NOT KNOW OF THE ISSUE EVEN THOUGH AN INVESTIGATION WAS UNDERWAY SINCE MAY. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE ABS ACTUATOR WITH A COST OF $2500 TO RESOLVE.
I HAVE A 2009 NISSAN MURANO SL AWD. I'M THE 2ND OWNER, AND MOST MAINTENANCE WAS DONE BY BYERLY NISSAN IN LOUISVILLE, KY. THE REAR BRAKES WERE JUST RECENTLY SERVICED WITH NEW PADS. AFTER THE SERVICE, A LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE WAS EXPERIENCED WHILE DRIVING. AFTER A FIGHT, BYERLY NISSAN REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER SAYING THAT WAS THE ISSUE. SINCE THEN, I'VE AGAIN LOST BRAKE PRESSURE. IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS REGULARLY, WHICH MAKES IT MORE UNEXPECTED WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED / ADDRESSED AS I'M SEEING MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH THE SAME ISSUE.

WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE IN THE RAIN THE PEDAL BECAME SOFT AND DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR, CAUSING ME TO RUN A RED LIGHT. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, BOTH TIMES DURING A RAIN. ON 2 JUNE 2017, I WAS DRIVING EAST ON JIMMY LEE PARKWAY IN HIRAM, GEORGIA. AS I WAS APPROACHING INTERSECTION OF JIMMY LEE PARKWAY AND METROMONT DRIVE, I WAS THREE TO FOUR CAR-LENGTHS FROM THE SUV IN FRONT OF ME THAT WAS STOPPED AT RED LIGHT; THEREFORE, PUT ON MY BRAKES TO STOP. TRAFFIC WAS VERY LIGHT AND MOVING SLOW DUE TO THE RED LIGHT. HOWEVER, WHEN I PUT ON MY BRAKES, MY BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED TO HAD SLIPPED AND WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO FLOOR BOARD. REGARDLESS, MY CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE ' NEVER STOPPED. WHEN I REALIZED THAT MY CAR WAS NOT GOING TO STOP, I PANICKED AND BRACED MY LEFT HAND ON THE STEERING WHEEL. ON IMPACT INTO THE REAR OF THE SUV THAT WAS SITTING AT THE RED LIGHT, MY LEFT HAND TOOK THE ENTIRE IMPACT OF THE ACCIDENT. CONSEQUENTLY, MY HAND IS CURRENTLY SWOLLEN TO DOUBLE ITS NORMAL SIZE. THE ACCIDENT RESULTED IN REAR-END DAMAGE TO THE SUV STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT AND EXTENSIVE FRONT-END DAMAGE TO MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO. POLICE OFFICER WAS NOT AWARE OF MY BRAKES. IT WAS NEVER DISCUSSED AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE. AS A MATTER OF FACT, HE CITED ME FOR ''.FOLLOWING TOO CLOSE'' ' WHICH IS INACCURATE AND WAS NEVER THE CASE. HOWEVER, HE INSTRUCTED ME TO DRIVE HOME SLOW WITH MY BLINKERS ON DUE TO THE DAMAGE TO MY FRONT HOOD AREA. AS I WAS DRIVING, I CAREFULLY AND DELIBERATELY STAYED AT LEAST 10-20 CAR-LENGTHS BEHIND THE VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME DUE TO BRAKE SITUATION. BECAUSE, WHEN I PUT ON THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO SLIP TO THE FLOOR-BOARD; BUT THE SUV WOULD ONLY SLOW DOWN AND NOT FULLY STOP. I PURPOSELY DROVE SLOW ENOUGH WITH MY BLINKERS FLASHING SO AS TO BE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE ALL GREEN LIGHTS ALL THE WAY HOME. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED INJURIES TO THE LEFT ARM AND HAND, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT DROVE HOME WITH THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY ABLE TO DECELERATE INSTEAD OF COMING TO A FULL STOP. ONCE THE CONTACT ARRIVED HOME, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA WAS CONDUCTING AN INVESTIGATION FOR THE YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE REGARDING THE BRAKES FAILING; HOWEVER, A RECALL HAD NOT BEEN ISSUED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP IMMEDIATELY AND TOOK AN EXTENDED AMOUNT OF TIME. HAWKINSON NISSAN (LOCATED AT 5513 MILLER CIRCLE DRIVE, MATTESON, IL 60443, 708-252-3769) DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS HAD NO FAILURE WITH THE HCU. THE DEALER FLUSHED THE BRAKE FLUID, BUT DID NOT REPLACE THE HCU. THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V916000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A VALVE ISSUE REGARDING THE ABS, WHICH WAS A MECHANICAL DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000.
