BRAKES SUDDENLY ARE SPONGY AND SOFT. NEED TO BE DEPRESSED MUCH MORE THAN NORMAL. THIS IS A CONDITION THAT HAS APPEARED SUDDENLY. TOOK CAR TO MECHANIC AND HE REPLACED REAR BRAKES, TURNED ROTORS, AND REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER TWICE, BOTH RESULTING IN THE SAME SPONGY BRAKE CONDITION.
WHILE BRAKING FOR A YELLOW LIGHT, I HIT A POTHOLE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TOTALLY SOFT, DROPPED TO THE FLOOR, AND THE CAR WAS NOT STOPPING. I COASTED THROUGH THE RED LIGHT AND WAS ABLE TO GET ENOUGH PRESSURE FROM THE PEDAL TO STOP THE CAR A FEW HUNDRED FEET LATER. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I TURNED THE CAR OFF TO CONSIDER MY OPTIONS (AND PANIC A LITTLE), THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. THE BRAKE RETURNED TO NORMAL HEIGHT AND PRESSURE. I DROVE THE 15 MILES HOME VERY CAUTIOUSLY. BRAKES HAVE BEEN FINE SINCE, BUT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING INCREDIBLY SLOWLY AND CAUTIOUSLY. CAR IS WITH THE DEALER NOW TO TROUBLESHOOT, THOUGH I AM GUESSING IT'S THE SAME ABS MOTOR MODULATOR ISSUE OTHERS HAVE HAD. IT SEEMS LIKE THIS FIX ISN'T QUITE KNOWN TO 100% BE THE FIX, AND SO I AM INCREDIBLY LEERY OF DRIVING THIS CAR ANY MORE, EVEN REPAIRED. MY FAMILY'S SAFETY IS TOO IMPORTANT TO NOT BE SURE. SHOPPING FOR ITS REPLACEMENT NOW. FAILURE FIRST OCCURRED AT 98K MILES. *TR
SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKES. MASTER CYLINDER FAILED AND ABS ACTUATOR MODULE FAILED INTERNALLY. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT 45 MPH ON A HIGHWAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A RATTLING NOISE AND A ROTTEN ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 162,000.
OUR 2009 NISSAN MURANO LOST BREAK PRESSURE A FEW MONTHS AGO. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE TUNE OF ABOUT $700. LESS THAN TWO MONTHS LATER IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN (BREAK ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR). UNFORTUNATELY I DIDN'T REALIZE UNTIL NOW THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE. I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM.
THE POWER LIFTGATE LATCH MECHANISM DOES NOT LATCH FULLY AFTER 3 OR 4 USES UNTIL THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL IS REMOVED AND PUT BACK ON. THEN IT WORKS PROPERLY FOR A FEW TIMES, ULTIMATELY NOT LATCHING COMPLETELY AGAIN AND COMPLETELY DISABLING USE OF THE LIFTGATE. I BROUGHT VEHICLE TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THE MECHANISM IS FAULTY AND POSSES A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN LIFTGATE DOESN'T SECURE ITSELF. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE AND CANNOT PUT THINGS OR MY DOG IN THE BACK OF VEHICLE DUE TO THE RISK OF IT OPENING WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE MOSTLY OCCURRED ON SLICK ROADWAYS OR AFTER TRAVELING OVER A BUMP. AT TIMES, IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO OPERATE CORRECTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WILLIAMS WOODY NISSAN (3600 S LIMIT AVE, SEDALIA, MO 65301, (660) 827-1403), BUT NO FAILURE CODES WERE FOUND AND THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER TO DRIVE TO ANY DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHEN THE FAILURE RECURRED. WITHOUT TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE, NO FAILURE CODES WOULD BE DETECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A NISSAN DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO DECREASE IN SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS CONTROL FAILED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. AFTER THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER A POTHOLE, IT LOST BRAKE FUNCTIONALITY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. TWICE NOW DURING NORMAL DRIVING THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS GONE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WHILE TRYING TO APPLY THE BRAKES. THERE WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING. AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKES THEY RETURNED TO NORMAL. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE CONDITION AND THEY DID A FULL BRAKE EXAM. ENDED UP HAVING THE REAR BRAKES REPLACED. SEEMED O.K. UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
BRAKES LOST PEDAL PRESSURE SEVERAL TIMES.INTERMITENT PROBLEM.MECHANIC REPLACED ABS MOTOR MODULATOR.COST WAS $2300.THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE COMMON WITH THIS MODEL.VERY DANGEROUS.RECALL NEEDED.
I HAVE EXPERIENCED 2 COMPLETE FAILURES OF MY BRAKE SYSTEM WITH MY NISSAN MURANO SL - 2009. IN SEPT 2016 - 91251 MILES: DRIVING OVER THE CREST OF A BRIDGE IN THE RAIN AND WHEN TRAFFIC BACKED UP FROM A RED LIGHT, I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE, IT WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID A MAJOR COLLISION BY DRIVING OFF INTO A GRASSY AREA THAT PRESENTED JUST BEFORE I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME TO CAUSE A CHAIN COLLISION. THE REMAINDER OF THE DRIVE, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP ONLY AFTER CONTINUOUSLY PUMPING THE PEDAL. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. AFTER EXTENSIVE ANALYSIS, IT WAS DETERMINED THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS BYPASSING INTERNALLY DUE TO A BAD GASKET AND BRAKE FLUID WAS NOT DISPERSING. $623.86 ($468.71 FOR MASTER CYLINDER SEAL) (WHICH I BELIEVE IS UNDER A RECALL OF THE NEWER SUV'S). IN OCTOBER OF 2016 - MILEAGE 92146. EXPERIENCED THE 2ND LOSS OF BRAKES TURNING ONTO A SIDE STREET IN CLEAR CONDITIONS. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO THE SAME AUTO REPAIR SHOP, ASSUMING IT WAS A REPEAT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER ISSUE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS NOW THE ABS ACTUATOR. (A CURRENT RECALLED ITEM FOR NEWER MODELS OF THE NISSAN MURANO) ON 10/18/16 I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED, FOR THE 3RD TIME, TO THE DEALERSHIP IN ORLANDO FLORIDA. CURRENT THE ISSUE NOW WAS THE ABS HYDRAULIC UNIT - OUTLET VALVE STICKING OPEN. COST - $3305.
THE STEERING RACK AND PINION ARE DEFECTIVE AND THEY START LEAKING IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. MY CAR STARTED LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID WHILE BEING STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT
FAILURE OF ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT, CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE WHERE PEDAL HAD TO BE PUSHED TO FLOOR TO ENGAGE BRAKES.
ON TWO OCCASIONS THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS GONE STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR BOARD WHEN APPLIED. THE FIRST TIME I WAS DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS AND AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL IT ENGAGED AND BEGAN WORKING. ON THE SECOND OCCASION MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AND HAD TO BRAKE AND SWERVED TO MISS HITTING THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN FRONT OF US.
OUR 2009 MURANO BRAKE PEDAL WORKED FINE UNTIL 6 MONTHS AGO. THE PEDAL THEN STARTED TO FEEL VERY SOFT WHEN PRESSED. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY LOOKED OVER IT BUT COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING SERIOUSLY WRONG AND ADJUSTED THE TENSION. THE BRAKES SEEMED NORMAL AFTER BUT DIDN'T LAST LONG. I THEN TOOK IT TO A FORMER NISSAN MECHANIC THAT LOOKED INTO IT AND RECOMMENDED WE TAKE IT TO THE DEALER SINCE HE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT AND DIDN'T WANT TO CHANGE PARTS WITHOUT KNOWING FOR SURE. HE LOOKED INTO THE BULLETINS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED AND FELT THAT NISSAN HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL ON THEIR BRAKES. WHEN I WENT TO THE NISSAN DEALER THEY ACTED AS IF THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY BRAKE ISSUES WITH THE MURANOS. I INFORMED HER TO LOOK AT THE BULLETINS THAT HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED BUT IT DIDN'T SEEM TO MATTER. I HAD THEM CHECK THE MURANO OVER AND THEY CAME BACK AND SAID BRAKE FLUID IS DIRTY THAT SHOULD FIX IT. OF COURSE IT DIDN'T FIX THE SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NISSAN HAS WITH BRAKES.
BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AFTER HITTING BUMPS. HAPPENS SPORADICALLY, AND TYPICALLY CORRECTS ITSELF AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, BUT HAS TAKEN DAYS AT TIMES. BRAKES DO STOP THE CAR BUT IT IS CLEAR THAT THE ABS SYSTEM IS SOMEHOW DISABLED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 8-10 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR, MY CAR HAS 106,000 MILES
IN EARLY SEPT OF 2016 WHILE EXITING OFF OF THE INTERSTATE I WENT OVER AN UNEVEN SURFACE ON THE ROAD AND MY BRAKES WENT COMPLETELY SOFT AND ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD. I COULDN'T STOP MY VEHICLE. I WAS SO SCARED AND HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. LUCKILY I WASN'T GOING VERY FAST, NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME SO I STARTED FURIOUSLY PUMPING THE BRAKES CONTINUOUSLY PRAYING THIS WOULD HELP. I WAS ABOUT A MILE AWAY FROM HOME SO I PUMPED THEM ALL THE WAY HOME. WE TOOK MY CAR INTO EDDIE TOURELLE NISSAN IN COVINGTON, LA. ON 9/6/2016 WHERE I HAD ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE CAR BACK IN 2009. WE LITERALLY HAD A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS DUE TO EXPIRE. THEY CHANGED THE MASTER CYLINDER THINKING THIS WAS THIS ISSUE. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW WEEKS LATER AND HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE SO FAR AND NOT GOTTEN INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. WHEN IT HAPPENS I IMMEDIATELY TRY TO PUMP THE BRAKES UNTIL THE PRESSURE RETURNS. THIS IS EXTREMELY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN, THERE IS NO WARNING. SO VERY SCARED THAT I WILL EVENTUALLY GET INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
THE BRAKES IN OUR 2009 NISSAN MURANO INTERMITTENTLY FAIL ABOUT ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH. WHEN A FAILURE OCCURS THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE SLOWS, BUT DOES NOT STOP. SEVERAL OCCURRENCES REQUIRED A SWERVE OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID A COLLISION. SEVERAL, BUT NOT ALL OF THESE OCCURRENCES WERE PRECEDED BY A JOLT TO THE VEHICLE (POTHOLE, RAILROAD TRACK, ETC.). NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ABS LIGHTS COME ON AND NO ERROR CODES ARE SET. THE CONDITION LASTS FOR A FEW MINUTES TO A FEW HOURS THEN RETURNS TO COMPLETELY NORMAL OPERATION. THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND WERE UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO HELP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, BUT THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FUCCILLO NISSAN (3893 STATE ROUTE 31, LIVERPOOL, NY 13090) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT SEARCHED ONLINE AND BELIEVED THE BRAKE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS FLASHING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (GERI LYNN NISSAN, 1772 MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD, HOUMA, LA 70360, (985) 219-1111) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WEIGHT SENSOR AND VARISTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 08V521000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 08V066000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXHIBITING FAILURES RELATED TO ONE OR BOTH OF THE RECALL CAMPAIGNS. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO ISSUED ONE TSB FOR THE AIR BAGS AND THREE TSBS FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE DEALER DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TT CONSUMER STATED DID NOT REPAIR DUE TO REPAIR COST OF $2,150.00. TECH FOUND CODE B108OCS. UPDATED 10/12/18*JB
I HAVE REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP IT IS BRAND NEW AND IT IS STILL VERY TIGHT AND HARD TO TURN IT ACTS LIKE THE PUMP IS OUT BUT WHEN I PUT FLUID IN IT IT LOOSENS UP FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND GOES RIGHT BACK TO BEING HARD TO DRIVE.
PASSENGER AIRBAG NO LONGER WORKS. SENSOR LIGHT ON DASHBOARD IS ALWAYS ON. SUTHERLIN NISSAN SAYS WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN, THE BRAKES LOST PRESSURE AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT SLOWLY DROVE HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED A YEAR LATER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE INITIALLY. THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED MORE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPLACED THE ABS MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,720.
WHILE BRAKING FAIRLY HARD FROM 45 MPH ON A STRAIGHT HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A SMALL HUMP IN THE ASPHALT. THIS APPARENTLY ACTIVATED THE ABS SYSTEM, WHICH FAILED AND REMAINED IN THAT MODE. SUBSEQUENTLY, WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, CONSIDERABLY INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE. THE NISSAN DEALER REPLACED THE ABS ACTUATOR FOR $2700. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A PREMATURE FAILURE FOR A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 79,000 MILES.
CAR STOPPED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. TURNED OUT TO BE A TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM WHERE THE TRANSFER CASE SEEPED FLUID WITH OUT INDICATION UNTIL IT RAN DRY. THIS IS A KNOWN MFG DEFECT OF THE MURANO YET THERE HAS BEEN NO CORRECTIVE ACTION BY NISSAN AND THE REPAIR IS $3500.00. WE ARE LUCKY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT IN THIS CASE.
2009 MURANO LE WITH AWD. LOST BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE AFTER ABS ACTIVATION AUGUST 2016 WITH 72,600 MILES ON IT. PURCHASED USED FROM NEW CAR DEALER WITH 22K MILES ON IT 02/02/2011. I TURNED INTO A PARKING LOT AND DROVE OVER A SPEED BUMP AT ABOUT 10 MPH ANOTHER CAR PULLED IN FRONT OF ME AND I HIT THE BRAKES AND ABS WAS ACTIVATED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. I PUMPED THE BRAKES AND THE PRESSURE RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE BRAKES RESPONDED NORMALLY FOR A COUPLE WEEKS UNTIL I BRAKED HARD TO AVOID ANOTHER CAR AND THE ABS BRAKING AGAIN ACTIVATED AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. AFTER THAT THE BRAKE PRESSURE DID NOT RETURN ALTHOUGH I COULD STOP BY PUMPING THEM REPEATEDLY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MOSSY NISSAN POWAY AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DEFECTIVE ABS ACTUATOR AND ECU WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ALTHOUGH IT HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH AWD MURANOS. PART WAS $1822 AND LABOR $560.
WE STARTED EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH A VERY LOW BRAKE PEDAL ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO. IT WAS SPORADIC AND WOULD GET BETTER AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY BUT RETURN AFTER A FEW DAYS. WENT TO ONE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SUGGESTED NEW BRAKES PADS AND FRONT ROTORS. WE HAD THIS DONE AND THE BRAKES SEEMED FINE FOR A FEW DAYS BUT THEN RETURNED TO THE LOW PEDAL. WENT TO ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP AND THEY INDICATED THAT A NEW MASTER CYLINDER WAS NEEDED. HAD THIS DONE YESTERDAY AND AGAIN THE BRAKES SEEMED OK BUT WENT BACK TO A LOW PEDAL WHILE DRIVING HOME. FROM WHAT I'VE READ IN THE OTHER COMPLAINTS LISTED, THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE EXPERIENCED BY OTHERS AND GIVEN THE POTENTIAL FOR A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND INJURIES, I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY NHTSA HAS NOT REQUIRED A RECALL. WE HAVE NOW SPENT OVER $1,200 FOR REPAIRS THAT LIKELY WERE NOT NEEDED. I DO NOT INTEND TO PAY FOR A NEW ABS CONTROLLER. NISSAN NEEDS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS PROBLEM AND PROVIDE A FIX AT NO COST.
ON JULY 22, 2016 I LEFT WORK AND TOOK THE INTERSTATE HOME. I WAS IN THE FAST LANE TRAVELING ABOUT 60 MPH AND HAD NOT BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE LONG. I NOTICED THAT TRAFFIC WAS COMING TO A SLOW STOP. I APPLIED MY BRAKES. AT FIRST IT FELT NORMAL AS IF MY BRAKES WERE OKAY, BUT THEN THEY WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS BLESSED THAT THE TRAFFIC IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE WAS BACK FAR ENOUGH FOR ME TO GET OVER. I KEPT TRYING TO APPLY MY BRAKES AND THEY WERE ON THE FLOOR. THE CAR DID SLOW DOWN EVENTUALLY. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME BY DRIVING EXTREMELY SLOW AND EASING TO A STOP STARTING 30 YARDS FROM THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD MY MURANO TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP ON SATURDAY MORNING AND THEY KEPT IT THE ENTIRE NEXT WEEK. I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN THEY FIRST GOT IN THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN WHEN THEY TRIED TO STOP. HOWEVER, AFTER THAT FIRST ATTEMPT THE BRAKES STARTED TO WORK PERFECTLY. THEY DROVE IT THE ENTIRE WEEK TO SEE IF THE MALFUNCTION WOULD REPEAT ITSELF BUT IT NEVER DID. I PICKED MY CAR UP ON FRIDAY, JULY 29, 2016 WITH NO ASSURANCE THAT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT GO OUT AGAIN. SINCE THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE ISOLATED, NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. I CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR OUT OF NECESSITY FOR WORK BUT I AM STRESSED NOT KNOWING IF OR WHEN MY BRAKES WILL FAIL AGAIN. I DO HAVE DOCUMENTATION FROM THE REPAIR SHOP BUT IT IS NOT ONLINE SO I CANNOT LOAD IT.
BRAKES LOSE PRESSURE AFTER HITTING BUMPS OR SLICK SPOTS IN THE ROAD REGARDLESS OF SURFACE STREET OR HIGHWAY CONDITIONS. ATTEMPTING TO BREAK CAUSES THE BRAKES TO BE COMPLETELY DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE AND BRAKING DISTANCE IS DANGEROUSLY INCREASED. FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR IS CONSTANTLY GOING OFF AND FLASHING ON DASHBOARD. MECHANIC STATES THAT WHEN THE LIGHT IS ACTIVE THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. NISSAN HAS REFUSED TO CORRET THIS PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH AIRBAG RECALLS ARE ON THE NEWS DAILY. DRIVING ON A TWO LANE ROAD AT 45 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE TWO CARS IN FRONT OF ME SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A TURN. WHEN I TRIED TO DECELERATE I COMPLETELY LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR AND IT SWERVED INTO THE ONCOMING LANE WHICH WAS FORTUNATELY EMPTY AT THE TIME. IT FELT AS IF I WAS DRIVING ON ICE WITH THE ENTIRE BACK END MOVING SIDEWAYS. I WAS ONLY 2 MILES FROM HOME AND UPON PULLING IN MY DRIVEWAY I EXAMINED THE REAR END OF MY CAR. THE WELDS BROKE ON THE REAR SUB-FRAME AND THE CAR WAS NO LONGER CONNECTED TO THE FRAME.

THE TRANSFER CASE IS LEAKING & NISSAN INFORMED ME IT NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED COSTING ME $3350. THE TRANSFER CASE SEALS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE BEFORE ON THIS VEHICLE AT 30K MILES AND 75K MILES. UPON DOING RESEARCH, THE TRANSFER CASE APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSANS. I WAS ALSO INFORMED BY A NISSAN ACE CERTIFIED TECH THAT THE FAULTY TRANSFER CASE IS A FACTORY DEFECT, AND THERE WERE REVISIONS MADE ON THE TRANSFER CASE ON MARCH 24, 2014; THEREFORE, THE NEWER, REVISED TRANSFER CASE "SHOULD NOT" FAIL AGAIN. WELL, AFTER UNSUCCESSFUL NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE LOCAL NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I CONTACTED CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO REQUEST A PARTIAL GOOD-WILL PAYMENT (AT LEAST PAY FOR THE PARTS SINCE IT'S SUCH A COMMON ISSUE AND A DESIGN DEFECT AND I'LL PAY FOR THE LABOR), BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED. THIS LEAVES CONSUMERS WITH DEFECTED PRODUCTS WHICH WILL END UP COSTING CONSUMERS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS BECAUSE NISSAN REFUSES TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. WHAT A DISHONEST WAY TO DO BUSINESS.
I HAVE OWNED TWO NISSAN VEHICLES. THE FIRST NISSAN I OWNED WAS AN 08 ALTIMA THAT HAD A TRANSMISSION ISSUE AT 25,000 MILES. MY CURRENT NISSAN IS AN 09 MURANO. THIS VEHICLES TRANSMISSION STARTED TO MAKE NOISE AT 116,000 MILES. AT THE TIME I BROUGHT IT INTO A SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT NISSAN HAS A LOT OF TRANSMISSION ISSUES. BECAUSE I WAS TOLD THAT MY WARRANTY WAS 60,000 MILES, I DID NOT BRING MY VEHICLE TO NISSAN. AFTER A FEW MONTHS WE DECIDED TO LOOK UP IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS. MY HUSBAND FOUND ON THE NISSAN SITE THAT DUE TO ISSUES THEY HAD WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION THEY EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY FROM 60,000 MILES TO 120,000 MILES. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT MY CAR INTO NISSAN AND HAD THEM LOOK AT IT. THEY SAID MY TRANSMISSION WAS BAD AND NEVER MENTIONED THE WARRANTY. I CALLED NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HAD MY CASE REVIEWED. THEY ADVISED ME THAT THERE WASN'T A RECALL BUT ONLY A WARRANTY EXTENSION. THEY OFFERED TO PAY 50% SINCE I WAS NOW AT 123,000 MILES. I LET THEM KNOW I HAD DOCUMENTATION SHOWING I HAD THE ISSUE PRIOR BUT THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING FURTHER.

THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR. NO WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM IN THE ABS SYSTEM. FROM ALL COMPLAINTS ON LINE NISSAN DOES NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE. I AM REMOVING THE ABS FUSE SO I WILL HAVE DEPENDABLE BRAKES UNTIL NISSAN CAN DETERMINE WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE BESIDES REPLACING WHOLE ABS SYSTEM. HAVE 88,000 MILES ON CAR.
