I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 75 IN ATLANTA, GA AT THE BEGINNING OF RUSH-HOUR WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED JERKING. THIS IS A 6 LANE HIGHWAY AND I WAS RIDING IN THE CENTER LANE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO WORK MY WAY TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER, I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE BECAUSE MY TRANSMISSION WAS UNRESPONSIVE. I HAD TO HIT THE ACCELERATOR REALLY HARD TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF 18 WHEELERS AND OTHER FAST MOVING VEHICLES. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE WAY OF ON-COMING TRAFFIC WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO TOWN CENTER NISSAN, WHICH IS WHERE I TAKE IT FOR REGULAR SERVICING AND WAS INFORMED ON FRIDAY 1/24/14 THAT THE TRANSMISSION 'WAS SHOT.' NOT WILLING TO TAKE THEIR WORD FOR IT, MY HUSBAND AND I VISITED AN AAMCO TRANSMISSION LOCATION AND WAS TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST NISSAN DUE TO RADIATOR FLUID LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. HE STATED THAT HE HAD SERVICED 8 - 9 PATHFINDERS WITH THE PROBLEM. MY HUSBAND CONTACTED NISSAN CORP AND THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT OUR DISCOVERY. NISSAN INITIALLY DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY, BUT STATED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE. WE WERE CONTACTED BY NISSAN CORP YESTERDAY INFORMING US THAT OUR PROBLEM WAS NOT DUE TO CROSS-CONTAMINATION, BUT DUE TO AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, IN OTHER WORDS, IT IS OUR FAULT. WHAT IS MOST INTERESTING IS THAT THIS IS OUR REGULAR SERVICE SITE, SO ANY ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO US BY THEM. THAT IS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN PAYING THEM FOR. THEY HAVE QUOTED US $4500.00 TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED TRANSMISSION. THEY ALSO MADE A POINT OF STRESSING THE FACT THAT THEY WOULD NOT HAVE ADDRESSED IT ANYWAY DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE HAVE OVER 100,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. YES IN 2014 WE HAVE 118,000 MILES, BUT WE WERE WELL BELOW THAT NUMBER WHEN THIS MESS SURFACED IN 2010. WHAT'S WORSE IS WE NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM NMAC. *TR
MY FAMILY AND I WERE ON THE HIGHWAY CLOSE TO HOME,IN TRAFFIC WHEN OUR CAR MADE A POP NOISE AND OUR CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. LUCKILY NO ONE HIT US OR HURT, AS LIKE I SAID WE WERE IN A HEAVY COMMUTE. OUR CAR WAS TAKEN TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC WERE WE FOUND OUT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO RADIATOR FLUID LEAKING INTO THE SYSTEM A $5,500 REPAIR WE CAN NOT AFFORD. WE ALSO FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN CERTAIN MAKES OF NISSANS, THEY HAVE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WHICH WE WERE NEVER INFORMED ABOUT. ALL NISSAN OWNERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM AND A RECALL TO ALL MODELS! *TR
2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH JUST OVER 60,000 MILES. STARTED ENGINE WHINE THAT MEASURED WITH ENGINE SPEED. FOUND TO BE TIMING CHAIN GUIDES AND TSB EXISTS. COST OVER $1500 TO REPAIR. IF LEFT UNADDRESSED, CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AT SPEEDS CAN OCCUR AND DRIVER AND PASSENGER SAFETY AT RISK. *TR
I AM HAVING A VERY HARDTIME WITH THIS VEHICLE. JUST BOUGHT ON JUNE 2013 FROM USED DEALERSHIP. IT IS MIXING THE ANTIFREEZE WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. I HAVE NO OTHER VEHICLE. AND NEED TO GET AROUND. MY FAMILY DEPENDS ON A GOOD USEFUL VEHICLE. THAT WILL NOT BREAK DOWN JUST ANYWHERE. AND WILL NOT COST THOUSANDS TO REPAIR. *TR
FAULTY TRANSMISSION COOLER SYSTEM - NISSAN PATHFINDER 2006 HAS FAULTY TRANSMISSION COOLING SYSTEM THAT CONNECTS TO RADIATOR. NISSAN PRODUCT/DESIGN FAILED AND CREATED CROSS CONTAMINATION OF ANTIFREEZE & TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS FAULTY PRODUCT DESIGN POSES SERIOUS SAFETY RISKS TO MY FAMILY AND OTHERS (JUST SEARCH ON THE INTERNET & YOU'LL SEE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS/CLAIMS & CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT). THIS ISSUE CAN CAUSE SUDDEN STOPS AND ENGINE FAILURE. MY PATHFINDER STARTED RUNNING HOT AND THAT WAS FIRST INDICATION THERE WAS A PROBLEM. MECHANIC SAID TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD LEAKED INTO THE RADIATOR AND RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO TRANSMISSION. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR, THERMOSTAT & FLUSHED TRANSMISSION 4 TIMES (VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR). THIS JUST HAPPENED AND UNCERTAIN IF TRANSMISSION WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS AND REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. WE HAVE KEPT REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND USED EXTENDED LIFE/SYNTHETIC PRODUCTS TO HELP KEEP THE ENGINE & TRANSMISSION WELL LUBED. *NOTE: WE DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR NISSAN RECALL & CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT DUE TO MILEAGE OF VEHICLE. BASED ON NISSAN'S EXCLUSION TERMS, WE WON'T BUY ANOTHER NISSAN PRODUCT. *TR
TRANSMISSION: HAVING PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION - IT WILL NOT GO ON REVERSE. RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE RADIATOR WOULD CRACK CAUSING THE COOLANT TO MIX WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. *TR
I WENT TO PICK UP MY OLDEST DAUGHTER FROM TRACK PRACTICE AND PLACED MY 4 YEAR OLD IN HER CAR SEAT TO START DRIVING. ALLOWING THE CAR TO WARM UP, I PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND PROCEEDED UP THE HILL IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN I NOTICED THAT MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 20 MPH. TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AT THE TIME. THINKING THAT I DID NOT WARM THE CAR UP ENOUGH I PROCEEDED ON MY WAY UP HILLS AT A SNAILS PACE TO RETRIEVE MY OLDEST DAUGHTER FROM HIGH SCHOOL. ONCE I MADE IT TO THE HIGH SCHOOL I FIGURED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING SIGNIFICANTLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND JUST WANTED TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME. I HAD TO CONTEND WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC TRYING TO CROSS A LARGE AND BUSY ROAD WITH A VEHICLE THAT ONLY ACCELERATED TO 20 MILES AN HOUR AND AT SOME TIME ACTUALLY STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. ALTHOUGH THE SCHOOL IS ONLY 2 MILES FROM HOME IT TOOK ME 30 MINUTES TO GET BACK SAFELY TO MY HOUSE BECAUSE OF THE OFF AND ON AGAIN DRIVABILITY. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC THE FOLLOWING MONDAY AND THEY INDICATED THAT MY TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CAR IS NOT OLD AND TAKEN CARE OF----I SEARCHED FOR RECALLS AND SAW THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION AND HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO NISSAN FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A FAILED TRANSMISSION AS A RESULT OF COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXING AND THEY INDICATED THAT MY TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS MY RADIATOR---THIS IS A KNOWN QUALITY ISSUE WITH THE NISSAN PATHFINDERS. THE CAR FAILED WITHOUT WARNING PUTTING MYSELF AND MY YOUNG DAUGHTER AT RISK FOR A REAR END ACCIDENT IN THE VEHICLE. NISSAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF WHAT THEY HAVE PUT CONSUMERS THROUGH AND A MANDATORY RECALL SHOULD HAPPEN. THIS IS A SAFETY RISK TO EVERYONE WHO DRIVES A NISSAN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO JERK WITH SEVERE HESITATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FUEL SENDING UNIT RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JB
I HAVE HEARD THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSION FLUID GETTING RADIATOR FLUID IN IT. THE CLASSIC SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS THAT HAVE STARTED WITH MY 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER ARE: 1. HORRENDOUS SHUDDERING WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS TO INCREASE MY SPEED, 2. OCCASIONAL BANGING WHEN MY AUTOMATIC CAR SHIFTS INTO GEAR, 3. DELAY IN SPEED WHEN I ATTEMPT TO PASS. SINCE ALL OF THIS HAD STARTED RIGHT AFTER 100,000 MILES A NEW TRANSMISSION IS NOT COVERED. I AM A SINGLE MOM WHO IS A HOSPICE NURSE, I DRIVE ALL DAY, HAVING A RELIABLE CAR PUTS FOOD ON THE TABLE FOR MY KIDS. I DON'T HAVE $3,000 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I COULD CRY, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM GOING TO DO. RIGHT NOW I JUST KEEP DRIVING IT KNOWING IT IS GOING TO BREAK DOWN ANY DAY. I WAS INFORMED BY SO MANY PEOPLE THAT NISSAN WAS A GREAT COMPANY AND MANUFACTURED A GREAT VEHICLE WHEN I DECIDED TO BY THIS PATHFINDER. I AM SOOOO DISAPPOINTED!!! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN VEHICLE, I'M SORRY, FOR THE AMOUNT THAT I ORIGINALLY PAID FOR THIS VEHICLE, IT SHOULD NOT START FALLING APART AT 108,000 MILES. *TR
FUEL GAUGE NO LONGER WORKS PROPERLY. WHEN IT GETS TO 1/4 TANK OF GAS IT WILL DROP TO EMPTY. NO IDEA HOW MUCH GAS IS LEFT IN THE TANK AT THIS POINT MAKING IT HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE. ONCE FILLED, THE FUEL GAUGE WILL NOT GIVE AN ACCURATE FUEL LEVEL FOR AT LEAST THE FIRST 50 MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. *TR
JUST FOUND OUT THAT I HAVE THE COOLANT MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CAUSING TRANSMISSION FAILURE.... CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND WAS TOLD I HAD TO GO GET DIAGNOSIS AT DEALER WITCH I DID AT A COST 100.00. CALLED NISSAN BACK AND SAID I WAS OUT OF LUCK AND NOTHING THEY WOULD DO.... HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH SELLING SUCH A DEFECTIVE PART FOR SO LONG IS BEYOND ME AND THE FACT THAT THERE IS NUMEROUS CLASS ACTION LAW SUITS ON THIS ISSUE AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT..... THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STOP IN TRAFFIC.... SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *TR
I BROUGHT MY 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO CHECK OUT A COMPLETELY UNRELATED ISSUE WHEN I WAS MADE AWARE THAT MY CAR HAD THE PROBLEM OF A CRACKED RADIATOR THAT CONTAMINATES THE TRANSMISSION FLUID THAT COULD LEAD TO MAJOR PROBLEMS IF NOT CORRECTED. SINCE I HAVE LESS THAN 90,000 MILES, I'D HAVE TO PAY A CO-PAY OF $2500 OUT OF POCKET. EVIDENTLY THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE, ALTHOUGH THERE SHOULD CERTAINLY BE ONE SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER CARS AND SHOULDN'T BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONSUMER TO PAY FOR AN ISSUE THAT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. I PERSONALLY AM NOT IN A POSITION TO SIMPLY DUMP $2500 INTO A VEHICLE AND THIS MAKES THIS PROBLEM EVEN MORE DIFFICULT AND HARD TO ACCEPT. SOMETHING ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. *TR
WHILE ENTERING HIGHWAY THE TRANSMISSION STARTED GROWLING AND WOULD NOT SHIFT. ONCOMING TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT 60+ MPH HAD DIFFICULTY AVOIDING MY AUTOMOBILE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE DISPLAYED INACCURATE FUEL LEVELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON A 30 DEGREE MORNING AFTER JUST DROPPING MY SON (DIAGNOSED WITH SICKLE CELL DISEASE) TO SCHOOL. HAD THIS BEEN PRIOR TO DROPPING HIM TO SCHOOL HE WOULD HAVE BEEN SITTING IN THE FREEZING VEHICLE FOR 30MINS UNTIL MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GET TO US AND THIS COULD HAVE AGGRAVATED HIS CONDITION. I WAS PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND I AM SHOWING A QUARTER TANK OF GAS LEFT IN THE VEHICLE SO DID NOT THINK THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. I THEN CONTACTED MY HUSBANDS AT WORK AND HE HAD TO LEAVE TO COME CHECK ON THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED IT MAY NEED GAS BECAUSE EVERYTHING ELSE LOOKED OK AND WE HAD JUST COMPLETED A SERVICE WITH NO MENTION OF ANY ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. HE DROVE ME TO THE GAS STATION IN HIS VEHICLE WHERE WE PURCHASED SOME GAS CAME BACK POURED IT IN THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED UP AND WAS FINE. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC (AM). I THEN DECIDED TO CHECK FOR ANY RECALLS AND FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILIARY TANK NHTSA CAMPAIGN #10V075000 WE THEN ADDRESSED THIS WITH NISSAN AND THEY ADVISED THAT ALTHOUGH IT IS THE SAME EXACT ISSUE, MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SO CORRECTING THIS ISSUE IS AT MY EXPENSE. THIS SHOULD NOT BE AT MY EXPENSE ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE IS A KNOWN IDENTICAL ISSUE WITH THE PART. *TR
ON DECEMBER 12 2013 I WAS DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 195,SPEED LIMIT WAS 65 MILES AN HOUR, ABOUT TEN MINUTES ON MY WAY HOME I HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM MY 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER, AS I PULLED OVER ON THE BREAK DOWN LANE I GOT OUT AND CHECK UNDER THE HOOD AND SAW NOTHING SO I CONTINUE TO DRIVE I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE ,AND THEY LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND IT WAS GOING TO COST ME $5400.00 TO REPLACE IT AND IF I DON'T LIKE IT, I CAN TAKE IT TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN DARTMOUTH MA, WHICH I DID, AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING AND THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION SO THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME BUT PUT ME IN ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH MONTHLY PAYMENTS, SO I TOOK MY NISSAN PATHFINDER TO A MECHANIC BUSINESS CALL SAFE GUARD TRANSMISSION LOCATED ON DARTMOUTH STREET IN NEW BEDFORD MA, WHICH I ENDED UP PAYING 3600.00 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. I NEED TO BE REIMBURSE FOR THE AMOUNT I SPENT ON THE TRANSMISSION THAT A RECALL WAS ON, IF YOUR COMPANY REFUSE I WILL CONTACT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL. *TR
MY VEHICLE, AS I HAD THOUGHT, HAD 1/4 TANK OF GAS WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWED NO GAS WHATSOEVER AND MY GAS LIGHT TURNED ON. WHILE DRIVING ANOTHER 20 MILES TO MY NEAREST GAS STATION, MY VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOWLY DE-ACCELERATE. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND MY CAR NO LONGER HAD SPEED AND I REALIZED IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD NO GAS WHEN I THOUGHT I DID. I WAS ABLE TO PUT GAS ON MY CAR AND SURE ENOUGH IT STARTED RUNNING AGAIN BUT BEING THAT I ONLY PUT ABOUT 10 GALLONS OF GAS, MY GAS LIGHT STILL STAYED ON AND MY NOZZLE STILL SHOWED BELOW THE EMPTY LINE. I WAS WORRIED EVERY DAY THAT I WOULD RUN OUT AND SURE ENOUGH THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES. BEFORE THAT THOUGH, I VIEWED TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS ONE. I DECIDED TO CALL MY LOCAL NISSAN AND AFTER PROVIDING MY VIN #, I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE DID NOT FALL UNDER THE SPECIFIED ISSUE. IF I WANTED TO FIX IT, IT WOULD COST ME AROUND $450 DOLLARS, WHICH I DID NOT HAVE. I WAS TOLD I CAN PAY A $100 DIAGNOSTIC FEE TO SEE IF MY FUEL SENSOR WAS MESSED UP AND IF IT WAS THEY WOULD SEND NOTICE TO NISSAN HEADQUARTERS TO SEE IF THEY WILL COVER MY ISSUE. I HAVE TO FORK OVER $100 FOR THEM TO VIEW MY CAR AND ITS NO GUARANTEE THAT CORP WILL APPROVE FOR NISSAN TO FIX ISSUE. IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE I CAN DO OR HAS ANYBODY HAD SAME ISSUE AS ME? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGES FAILED TO PROPERLY MONITOR THE LEVEL OF FUEL. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE STALLED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER MADE THE CONTACT AWARE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); HOWEVER, DUE TO MILEAGE, THE RECALL WOULD NOT BE HONORED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TRANSMISSION COOLER INSIDE RADIATOR CRACKED AND ALLOWED COOLANT INTO TRANSMISSION FLUID, CAUSING COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FALIURE....COST TO REPAIR 5,000 DOLLARS. *TR

2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. VEHICLE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO VIBRATE AND WHINE AND WITHIN 1 MILE THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT WORKING. I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND COULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. HAD CAR TAKEN TO TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP AND THE SHOP AUTOMATICALLY KNEW THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE RADIATOR. HE SAID IT WAS A KNOW ISSUE WITH THE NISSAN PATHFINDERS AND IT WAS TOO LATE TO DO ANYTHING. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND WAS NOT RECALLED. I HAD 2 CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. LUCKILY, IT DID NOT. I AM KNOW STUCK WITH A $4,000 BILL TO GET THIS FIXED. ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO FEEL AS IF THE CAR WAS GOING TO STALL. THE COOLANT LIGHT INDICATOR MOVED RAPIDLY TO THE HIGH END, WHICH SEEMED TO INDICATE A RADIATOR OR COOLANT PROBLEM. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND LET THE CAR COOL DOWN, BEFORE PROCEEDING ON BACK ROADS TO GET HOME. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACT AS IF IT WAS GOING TO STALL EVEN AT 15-20 MILES PER HOUR. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE RADIATOR CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. REMOVED TRANSMISSION DRAIN PLUG FOR A BETTER FLUID INSPECTION, WHAT DRAINED WAS VERY WATERY, REDDISH, BROWNISH, PEANUT BUTTER COLORED FLUID. DRAINED APPROXIMATELY 3 QUARTS. REPLACED DRAINED FLUID WITH NEW, SET UP APPOINTMENT AND DROVE VEHICLE TO NISSAN SERVICE CENTER. CURSORY SEARCH OF THE WEB IDENTIFIED EXCESSIVE NUMBER OF OTHER CONSUMERS COMPLAINING OF SAME ISSUE. COUPLE HOURS LATER, NISSAN SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS CROSS CONTAMINATION BETWEEN COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION. BECAUSE VEHICLE HAD GREATER THAN 80000 MILES, SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME WOULD BE A CO-PAY OF $2500.00. REPAIR WORK COMPLETED, MONEY PAID, NOW ATTEMPTING TO HAVE NISSAN REIMBURSE. *TR
CAR SHUTTERS WHEN WE GET TO ABOUT 45 MPH AND YOU CAN FEEL SOME ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER DOING A LOT OF RESEARCH, APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY NISSAN. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT THAT SAYS THIS IS NOT A SAFETY HAZARD SO THEY MADE AN ARRANGEMENT TO COVER SOME, BUT NOT ALL, IN FULL. APPARENTLY RADIATOR FLUID IS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND RUINING THE TRANSMISSION. THE SETTLEMENT SAYS THAT AT MY MILEAGE, OVER 90,000 MILES BUT BEFORE 100,000 THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM FOR $3000! WOW! HOW SWEET OF THEM. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS NOT A RECALL. THERE ARE THREADS AND THREADS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS EXACT PROBLEM. IT EFFECTS 2005-2010 MODELS. THEY SAY IT ONLY EFFECTS A SMALL AMOUNT, THAT IS BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN THE IMPACT YET. ARE WE GOING TO WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE IS REALLY INJURED TO DO A RECALL. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, I NOTICED IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH CERTAIN YEARS OF NISSANS. IT WAS OUR PRIMARY VEHICLE AND I DIDN'T HAVE THE TIME TO HASSLE WITH THE NISSAN RUN-AROUND SO HAD IT REPAIRED FOR OVER $3,800. WE WILL NEVER BUY A NISSAN AGAIN IF THIS IS HOW THEY DO BUSINESS. THE VEHICLE HAD SOME SHIFTING AND HESITATION ISSUES WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY UPON ACCELERATING AFTER DECELERATING ABOUT 5 MPH AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THE RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CROSS CONTAMINATION WITH THE TRANSMISSION. UPON THE DEALER REPLACING THE RADIATOR AND FLUSHING THE COOLING SYSTEM/TRANSMISSION, THEY CALLED AND SAID THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOW THROWING OFF CODES AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACEMENT. IN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE, I NOTED THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION AS WELL AS AND EXTENDED WARRANTY OFFERED BY NISSAN FOR THIS DEFECT. THE DEALER FAILED TO MENTION THIS, SO I FORWARDED THEM THE INFORMATION AND VISITED THEM TO DISCUSS THE DEFECT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A LOWER COST VALVE BODY SERVICE THEY COULD ATTEMPT, BUT IF THAT DID NOT WORK, I WOULD NEED THE FULL REPLACEMENT, SO THEREFORE THEY RECOMMENDED THE REPLACEMENT. THE VALVE BODY SERVICE WAS $1300 AND A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS $5300, SO IF THE SERVICE DID NOT WORK I WOULD BE LOOKING AT $6600 PLUS ANOTHER $350 FOR THE COOLING SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION FLUSH THEY HAD ALREADY PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE HAS 109,000 MILES ON IT, SO IT IS OUTSIDE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NISSAN ISSUED FOR THIS ISSUE. I DID TRY THEIR CUSTOMER CARE LINE TO ATTEMPT TO HAVE THEM COVER THE REPAIR SINCE IT IS ONLY 9000 MILES OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY, BUT THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. BASED ON THE COST OF THE REPAIR VERSUS THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE, IT'S HARD TO JUSTIFY THE EXPENSE AND THEREFORE I CONSIDERED NOT REPAIRING THE TRANSMISSION. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE IS USED BY MY WIFE TO DRIVE OUR KIDS AROUND, AND I CAN'T IMAGINE THE CONSEQUENCE OF NOT REPAIRING AND THEN HAVE A COMPLETE FAILURE LIKE SOME OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED WHILE DRIVING. IT'S EVIDENT THAT THIS IS A MAJOR QUALITY AND SAFETY ISSUE, AND THAT NISSAN SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. *TR

ON AUGUST 19TH WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I NOTICED WHAT APPEARED TO SMOKE COMING FROM MY ENGINE AND NOTICED MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE READING THAT IT WAS OVERHEATING. I PULLED OVER ON THE SHOULDER AND OBSERVED, WHAT I NOW KNOW WAS, COOLANT VAPORIZING FROM MY ENGINE. AT THIS TIME ALL THE MECHANICS I CALLED WHERE WRAPPING UP FOR THE DAY, SO I HAD IT TOWED AND TAKEN TO A LOCAL NISSAN SERVICE THE NEXT MORNING. AFTER PAYING $49.95 FOR THE INSPECTION THE SERVICE CENTER INFORMED ME THAT THE RADIATOR FAILED MIXED COOLANT IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID KILLING MY TRANSMISSION AS WELL. THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $5,901, $6,373.08 AFTER TAXES, TO FIX THE DAMAGES. I REMEMBERED BEING SENT A NOTICE OF A RADIATOR RECALL, THAT I WAS TOLD DIDN'T CONCERN MY VEHICLE WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN, SO I ASKED ABOUT IT. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST NISSAN FOR THIS ISSUE AND THEY EXTENDED THE YEARS/MILEAGE ON THE WARRANTY AND I SHOULD CALL THEIR 800 NUMBER. I CALLED THE NUMBER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL DIDN'T EFFECT MY VIN# AND THAT MY MILEAGE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE EXTENSION. I WASN'T PREPARED FOR $6K IN ADDITIONAL EXPENSES SO I STARTED LOOKING AROUND FOR A MORE AFFORDABLE PRICE. I ENDED UP FINDING A SHOP THAT WAS ABLE TO DO THE WORK FOR $2,784, AND DURING THE PRICE SHOPPING AND REPAIRS I SPENT $495.72 ON A RENTAL TO GET AROUND. DURING THIS ORDEAL I BOTH ASKED THE MECHANIC WHO ASSESSED MY VEHICLE AND GOOGLE THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. BOTH SHOWED THAT I WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE THAT MY VIN WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE EFFECTED BY, AND THAT IT WAS A COMMON ISSUE FOR MY MODEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RADIATOR HOSE HAD FAILED AND CAUSED COOLANT TO PENETRATE THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,238.
THE COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. NISSAN MUST HAVE KNOWN THERE WAS AN ISSUE TO EXTENDING THE WARRANTY FROM 60,000 TO 80,000. THE PATHFINDER WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE FOR A FEW MONTHS BECAUSE SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT AND FINALLY FOUND OUT THE ISSUE WAS COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AT 83,000 MILES. *TR
I JUST BOUGHT VEHICLE FROM A SMALL DEALERSHIP WHO PROMISED TO BE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, MY HUSBAND DROVE THE CAR FOR ABOUT 8 MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD AND AS SOON AS WE HIT THE HIGHWAY, NOT EVEN BEING 40 MILES THE ENGINE LIGHT LIT UP AND STARTED JERKING!! CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WILL SAID THEY ARE NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE, HAD TO PAY TO HAVE SOMEONE TOWED MY VEHICLE TO MY HOME. *TR
