NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2018 Nissan Rogue. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
My car randomly stopped while I was driving. There was nothing directly in front of me that could have triggered the ABS or Forward Collision for my car to break. A warning symbol popped up on the dashboard and the car made a complete stop. The experience was incredibly scary and if someone were driving behind me it could have caused a rear ending accident. I am in fear that this situation could happen while I'm driving on the highway, where it is much easier for a collision to happen.
I have had the seat (driver) replaced by Nissan when the seat moves when accelerating and stopping that was two years ago. Now the dealership supposedly replaced the seat with a new one and this is happening again where the seat does not lock in position from moving back and forth. When you accelerate the seat moves back and if you brake the seat moves forward. This is a safety issue where the driver could possibly be injured from the seating moving unexpectedly.
The component is the backup camera. The backup camera engages, but the camera image freezes momentarily after engaging. The freeze happens for around 1-2 seconds. The camera then continues to work or then crashes completely and you have to move out of reverse and back into reverse to reengage the backup camera. This has happened since I owned the vehicle and after the other recall that addressed other backup camera issues. The car is available for inspection on request. This puts others at risk since the backup camera is a crucial part of visibility. If the camera freezes when backing up, people/cars can approach and I would likely not be able to see them. The component has non been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem. The symptoms have been with the car since purchase and definitely after the other software fix nissan had for camera issues.
Unknown , on November 23, 2022. I [XXX] hit a deer that jumped out in front of me while driving 45, 50 mph not one airbag went off and I hit the deer pretty hard. The deer had broken legs and it was all broken up, scared me because not one airbag not no nothing was there to help me. I then called 911. The police officer arrived. Asked me if I need an ambulance. I said no he said I was very lucky because the crash was bad and then the car was towed and it took three months before I got my car back and now that I got my car back, it’s nothing like it was before it went in. The AEB sensors are not working. The sensor will have to be replaced. The current lights are on my car: car with squiggly lines, warning triangle, and O/D Off.
This is my 2nd request for assistance for my Nissan. I have an engine room harness problem. Can you contact me about this?
I have not had a wreck because of this, but it does affect the ability to drive this car at times. The HVAC blend door on this car will strip out and in the winter you cannot switch it from cold air to hot air. So you have to freeze while driving and if it starts sleeting or your front window starts icing up or fogging up you cannot defrost it because there is not hot air. This seems to be a common issue for Nissan Rogues as you can find many forums with people discussing this issue on different year models. I've tried using JB Weld plastic epoxy as some have mentioned to hold the motor from slipping in the hole but over time it breaks down and strips out again. There is a problem with my engine room harness, and it is corroding. My car was not on the recall for an engine room cover. My wires are corroded. It has never been issued for a recall, and the Nissan repair shop has indicated this is a problem with the E27 sensor. This is the report from Nissan Repair: "Customer states that car runs rough and lights are on. I found that key will not turn on. Checked battery voltages, they are at 12.1 volts. Checked pin fit on all fuses that go to the battery. I found that connector e27 was very corroded. We will have to start with replace the fuseable link. While replacing, found that corrosion has made its way down through wires. Car now needs engine room harness." Therefore, this is not a normal wear and tear but a situation that the cover was not issued during the design of this vehicle. Please issue a recall for my vehicle so that I can continue to get where I need to safely and securely without stalling and without spending money out of my pocket for this issue.
The brakes suddenly started acting funny and the car feels unsafe when braking. The brake shave been checked by two different brake shops and they claim the pads, etc. are fine. The problem started when multiple warning lights suddenly went off on our dashboard. This included the AEB System Malfunction light, traction control, check engine, and ABS lights went on. The brakes sometimes have to be pressed down farther than normal and the abs breaks activate in normal braking situations.
My car is shutting down with no reason and Suddenly stopping when I’m driving in traffic 65 MPH this happening FOUR separate times today NOVEMBER,17 2022 In my driveway, At the parking lot At gas stations At work This unsafe car can cause a dangerous crash on the road because of the SUDDENLY STOP I m scar to drive this unsafe car I m putting my self and my Family and other on the road at risk by driving it. It keeps shutting down and suddenly stopping for several times for more than two months now but no fixed yet a I BROUGHT MY CAR TO SUTHERN NISSAN FORT MYERS FLORIDA THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK IT AND FIXE IT no respond.
Since I purchased my car in September of 2022, a 2018 Nissan Rogue SL AWD, whenever I drive down to Houston, TX, my AEB symbol (2 cars crashing symbol) flashes. This is consistent with me going to Houston about once a month, and I've driven elsewhere fine. I've driven throughout North TX, and to Louisiana, but every time without fail, my car gets the AEB sensor light. It flashes, and sometimes will go off for a day or two if I'm down there, but comes back on no matter what.
So the CVT transmission on my 2018 Nissan Rouge has begun to fail. I ask my personal mechanic and took it to Star Nissan in Illinois and both said that the transmission is wearing out quicker than normal, they suggested I see if it had been recalled, and to my surprise, it hasn't and they are guessing that the transmission was worn out before I bought it. They were recalled for the same problem but were never taken. The bad thing is that there is no error or light that says the transmission is failing. I drive with the car on a daily and risk my life and others just cause the car doesn't move and I need to turn it off and turn it back on so it resets. The car smells like burning metal from the transmission. When I go 20 the rpms hit 5000 which should be normal.
In the past two weeks my emergency braking system warned me and slightly breaker when I was driving uphill with no obstacles in my path. Now my front safety aids don’t work at all. No emergency breaking, no lane departure or lane recognition. The dealership has worked on it twice, now going in for a third time next Monday. It’s dangerous and it keeps glitching, going on and off randomly.
Airbag censor on the passenger side has malfunctioned and cannot detect an adult passenger and air bag has turned off.
The contact owns a 2018 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH and slowing for a traffic signal, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated the "AEB Malfunction" and the symbol of a rear end collision warning was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent, however the failure had become a recurring failure. Additionally, the contact stated that the RPM was fluctuating however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the ADAS control module and AEB system needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
The emergency braking system on several occasions has beeped as though it was going to engage when no vehicles we’re around and on at least 3 occasions it has engaged when no vehicles were around. I brought it to the dealership to “update” the system, but the problem still occurs.
aeb sensor caused the car to stop while driving full speed under an overpass while cars were behind me almost causing an accident
Out of the blue my vehicle suddenly displayed a "Warning Malfunction" and a symbol that indicated it was related to the blind spot warning system. The car was being driven on a straight side road without any other traffic at the time. The problem is intermittent. It was seen by the dealer and they confirmed that the problem is with the side radar control unit. The dealer also indicated that it is not under warranty (the vehicle has 38K miles on it). Searching online it appears to be a known issue, but no recall yet provided. I strongly believe this is a safety issue, as the sightlines of the car seemed to be a secondary thought since the system was installed. No accident was involved. The car still needs this to be corrected, and we will try to get recourse from the dealership where we purchased the vehicle second hand.
My 2018 Nissan Rogue AEB function triggers with no obstacles in view causing the vehicle to slow down creating a safety hazard. This has happened two times in August 2022 and each time I have taken the vehicle to Stone Mountain Nissan. There have been no resolution so far My safety as well as others have been at risk by the sudden slow down and the vehicle coming to a stop which creates a impact hazard from other drivers I am a senior and afraid to drive because of this issue On august 26 2022 my rogue suddenly slowed then stopped for no reason or obstruction in view The vehicle barely accelerated creating almost be struck by another driver so august 27 2022 I am sitting at Nissan dealer with a fee of 185 for a diagnostic that is unfair This issue calls for a buy back by Nissan or a recall a no customer cost I purchased this vehicle new
The first time I was just pulling out of my driveway and my car, made this grinding noise and forced to stop and the braking system light came on. The second time we were going 30 to 45 miles an hour and the same thing happened made that grinding noise came to a stop that time was definitely more harder because we’re going faster. I brought this to the attention of Nissan in Bayshore, and supposedly they checked a couple of things and said nope everything’s fine and like I said that was the first time and the second time they said the same exact thing that there could be some thing that triggered it. No I don’t think so. I think that there’s something wrong with the system because things like that just don’t happen both days that this happened to me it was a clear day one was daytime one was night time , so there was nothing near me. Nothing in the way. This could’ve been really serious if I was going faster. I think that they should be addressed because obviously they are not taking it. Seriously you see all of the complaints why is this not being looked into more the second time when we were going faster, and I told Nissan this it actually hurt me , my neck was killing me for a week. This should be taken very seriously because if somebody is driving faster and that happens or if somebody is a new driver and that happens and they can seriously hurt themselves or others because it comes out of nowhere n is very scary. FYI- I had to put in a fake date of when it happened to move forward on the form. I’m unsure of the two dates but my car was brought into The Nissan dealership in bayshore for the problem n there is documentation there with the dates.
Used key fob to unlock driver's door. Would not work. Used valet key. Started car, open drivers window and notice that nothing else in the cabin was operational. A/C would not turn on, could not put it in gear. Radio wouldn't function. The dash and console were dark. No message flashed. Couldn't exit the car as door wouldn't open. However, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. Hung out open door to unlock with valet key. Called AAA, they couldn't stop engine from running and stated they weren't "authorized" to do anything else. Called Nissan emergency number and person came out and couldn't shut off engine and finally had to disconnect the alternator to stop car from running. After reconnecting the alternator, he could not start car. I called a tow truck the next morning and at that time, the car started. Nissan service garage couldn't replicate that problem except said that the actuator in the door had failed and needed replaced - but that wouldn't cause the other issues. They had car for over a week and could not replicate the problem of the car engine running while every other car function was not operational. The car has only 3824 miles on it although it is a 2018. This is a major safety issue. Contacted Nissan Customer Care Service. Since the problem wasn't replicated, they said they couldn't help. I feel unsafe and won't drive car due to no one being able to explain why that happened or whether it will happen again.
Was driving down the road and the AEB light came on. There was no reason for the sensor to go off. After about a minute, the alert came on my dash saying there was a malfunction. I’ve tried cleaning the sensors, turning the car on and off, and even turning the emergency breaks off. The sensor is still alerting after being in the car for around 5 minutes. The breaks haven’t abruptly stopped as of yet, however they have slowed the vehicle down while I’ve tried to accelerate to keep up with the flow of traffic.
I was in a auto accident. The drivers seat (side airbag) deployed as well as the curtain airbag. This accident hasn’t been shown to my dealership because the car is sitting in a junk yard. The side airbag that came out of my seat hit me so hard that it burned me through 3 layers of clothing and gave me a third degree burn about the size of a grapefruit. I have yet to have my insurance inspect this, but it just looks like a deployed airbag and it ripped open my seat. I was being burned. The burn on my clothes was hard around the edges like how polyester burns. It was unimaginable pain.
Transmission system failure
Supplemental airbag light stays on.
Panoramic sunroof exploded while driving. There was a very load pop when the closed sunroof exploded apart. Pulled over called police, there is a police record of incident. Luckily I had visor closed or I am sure we would have wrecked. I had to have sunroof replaced, was not covered by Nissan warranty.
The contact owns a 22018 Nissan Rogue. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V549000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2018 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive to her destination. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V839000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Hybrid Propulsion System) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,865.
The contact owns a 2018 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the front interior light panel attached to the vehicle's headliner fell without warning with wire exposed. The light panel hit the right side of the contact's head which resulted in the contact suffering a minor headache, she did not seek medical attention. The contact pulled the vehicle over and was able to reattach the panel; however, the next day, the light panel fell again. The manufacturer was notified of the failure; however, the contact was informed that she could not file a complaint since the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Emergency brakes are activating when there is no obstacle in front of vehicle. Has happened on several occasions. Could potentially cause a rear end accident.
Sudden loos of power while accelerating the vehicle.
As you are driving down the road with other vehicle around my car will break itself as if i was about to hit someone from the back.
I was going to work on pa turnpike was driving 70 mph 6:30 am there was nothing in front of me the automatic emergency braking system stoped my car for no reason thank God no one behind me like tractor trailer or I would have been killed I know there are problems with this system this wasn't the first time like the third time it happened also my warning light came on said obstructed don't know but was not safe they need to recall this and find a solution how many of these automatic emergency braking system stoped other's it is very unsafe when your on a highways or any road
Using the info center to have hands free usage. The info center restarts periodically while driving. It doesn't appear to affect the drivability of the car, but if navigating using the info center it could cause a distraction for the driver if in an unknown area or place the driver in an unfamiliar/unsafe area. At present, it restarts on its own and reconnects to the current setting. It has not been inspected or reported to anyone as of yet. It is happening more frequently.
Car stopped in the middle of the street. Two different screens popped up one was Yellow the other was Red and white one said MALFUNCTION and explanation mark.
i am driving a 2018 Nissan rogue, currently has 65000miles on it. May 1st 2022 8 pm, while i was driving at 35 miles per hour, the car suddenly triggered its emergency brake and brought the car to a full stop in the middle of the road. there is no obstruction around me at all. imagine this happens on a heavy traffic highway, i can be killed this way.
While driving at about 40 mph in the city the Automatic Emergency Brake gets engaged and i heard few beeps, the light of the AEB lit up in the dashboard and the car slows down suddenly. I had this issue before in 2018 very frequently when i purchased the car and reported to Nissan. Nissan did make a software modification in 2019 and it did slow down on the number of times this issue occurred but it still happened here and there. I noticed that only thing that was happening was the beeping but the car never broke down the speed. Yesterday 4/26/2022 it happened again where the car broke down the speed with no obstacle in front, just like it used to happen in 2018.
Regardless of activating device - key FOB, dashboard switch, foot or trunk latch - trunk closes by itself halfway after opening, impacting operator in the head causing injuries. Dealer refuses to investigate without $150 service charge for the obvious software defect.
When I have Cruise Control activated, for example, at 65 mph, the engine transmission seems to keep shifting gears up and down and does not maintain a steady pace and slowing down/speeding up and shifting constantly. It is to the point that I will not use the Cruise Control any longer. It has happened each time I have activated it and I am inquiring if it is a commonly reported issue.
Automatic emergency braking engaged with no warning, slamming in the brakes with no obstacle around. I was driving to work and the car slammed on the brakes and flashed a warning light, there were no other cars or anything around luckily. It would have caused a accident if someone were behind me.
My car was in a collision and it is a total loss. The accident was a head collision on with a parked car, the airbags to not deploy during the accident. This is a safety issue I am very concerned about due to the damage to the car.
The vehivle itself locked up and stopped while driving in the middle of traffic.
Nissan did a recall on emergency braking system fail for which I was not notified. I did not become aware of the recall until after the expiration date and now Nissan refuses to honor the recall even though they are aware of the problem.
I received a Chassis Control System Error. When I tried to restart my car after it randomly shut off. I’ve had the car check and they thought it was the battery they did a check and the battery’s and all the parts are fine. They couldn’t find the problem, this is dangerous because car stopped while driving.
While driving the car randomly turns off I’ve had the car serivced and they can’t figure out the problem. It randomly stalls. Many people are having this problem if you just look up any Nissan rouge in 2018 review a lot have the said the same thing I’ve been lucky enough to notice before it happens but it could lead to someone’s death if not seriously looked at
While driving sudden stop and message says front radar obstruction malfunction appears. There is no vehicle driving near or any weather that will trigger this to happen
When diving and accelerating the speed stays between 25-40 miles and will not go over 40. It seems like I have cruise control on but I don't. I have to pull over and turn the vehicle off. When I start it again it works fine. It has happened at least 10 times already. Also, when I accelerate from a stop sign the vehicle hesitates to respond, several seconds later the vehicle was fine. Turning the vehicle on/off seems to fix the problem. I'm scared to drive on the freeway. Please fix this issue.
The backup camera blacked out when backing out of my driveway. I tried restarting the car and it didn't resolve the issue.
The driver side wiper arm stopped working on Sunday, January 16, 2022. The wiper motor and passenger side wiper were still functioning. The wiper arm was checked for damage Thursday, January 20 and none found. The nut holding the arm to a threaded shaft was found to be very loose. The nut was tightened and the wiper arm was repaired. Today, Sunday, January 23, the defect reoccurred. The nut was tightened again. However, this defect is clearly a safety hazard given the driver's side wiper clears more than half the windshield.
The backup camera periodically freezes when you put the vehicle in reverse. Other times, the screen will stay black or just show the Nissan logo until you cycle power. The safety of all inside the vehicle and around the vehicle is at risk when the backup camera feed freezes, especially if the operator doesn't realize the feed is frozen. This vehicle is currently operated outside of the US but will be available for inspection upon return. The issue is intermittent so it has not been reproduced in the presence of any service center. There were no warning messages involved.
