When driving one day my car began to shift into higher and lower gears on its own. I began experiencing my car shifting and losing power randomly while driving. I brought my car to a nissan dealer and was informed that my car was one of many with a faulty CVT Transmission. My car is 6 months and 4,000 miles past the warranty so they cant help me, but im hoping you can help others before someone is killed by their defective car.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The dealer informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.
The car was having problems accelerating, and then would also drop quickly in mph while driving; both situations are really dangers to myself as the driver, my passengers as well as others on the road. I brought the Sentra to the dealership where I always get it serviced ( no warning lamps on). Upon inspection, I was told the transmission was failing, on an 8 yr old car with only 53k miles on it.
Subject: 2014 NISSAN SENTRA TRANSMISSION Nissan has not recalled the 2014 Nissan Sentra. there are thousands of complaints online and at dealers. My warranty has expired last August 2021 and I only have 53354 milage. The dealer quoted me 4k to fix. I called Nissan Corporate and they said they would cover half of cost. This car is not safe to drive it changes speeds without notice and doesn't accelerate. It goes from 65mph to 45mph. This is dangerous on the highway. The dealer and corporate are aware of the danger. Confused at why would I have to pay a dime to fix if they know there are issues with the transmission.
2014 Sentra with 99000 miles. Car would have trouble going forward until reached 25 miles an hour then would excelerate until you got to about 55 and then decelerate to about 20 miles an hour. Almost got hit on major highway because of this. Sent car to garage and after diagnosis had transmission replace. $5200 what is nissan doing about this..nothing. Someone could have been seriously injured!!!
i was driving my 2014 nisaan sentra sv and when merging into traffic from the off ramp as i turned and accelerated in that second the car downshifted and accelerated enough to put me in danger due to the oncoming vehicles it then shook and i had the gas pedal depressed completely the vehicle then jerked real hard and would not go thankfully the vehicles that were oncoming seen me with just enough time to almost cause a huge car accident they slowed however you could hear brakes and see people behind the first vehicle swerving due to the sudden stop because of me i was honked at cussed at flipped off someone even threw a drink at my car and it could have been way worse the vehicle would not shift i had to get out in the middle of highway to push my car into a safe zone where i was in danger not to mention i lost my job for the simple fact it was my first day at my new career in johnstown at high country beverage since i purchassed this vehicle on July 3 2021 the dealership sold me a lemon vehicle that absolutely would not pass emissions in which i had to force dealership to re issue my temp tags 3 times due to the failed attemps and they would not give me my money back they had several attemps and chances to fix the issue in which they never did ive spent hundreds of dollars out of my pocket to figure it out and finally jan 2022 i was able to pass emissions , then shortly after in feb 2022 the car kept dying out and reading p0101 p0102 code mass air flow sensor and low circut current i spent 400 dollars to fix this issue theres more
The car will not shift into third or accelerate over 2,000 rpms
Both rear running lights blew at the same time, so i bought New ones, plugged them jn for them to still not work. Heard there was a recall on other versions of my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Nisan Sentra. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated 20 MPH. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact veered to the side of the roadway and waited to attempt to restart the vehicle. The contact then attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle would jerk and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission had seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
Transmission faulty .The cvt requires compete replacement. Yes component is available for inspection. Loss of power, transmission jerking, transmission slipping. Transmission reliability called into question and can result in serious harm to unsuspecting drivers. Yes, problem has been confirmed by dealership as well as Nissan Consumer Affairs. Problems first appeared in February 2022 and was diagnosed after complete failure May 2022. Transmission has multiple diagnostic trouble codes present.
This is 4 years after my first transmission died and was replaced. I couldn’t keep my car speed up in evening traffic, at 65mph, and my RPM’s began to jump back and forth, never steadying. My car jerked so badly I was struggling to control it and several cars had to pass me, going into the lane to the left of me. I had to drive it one more day, tonight, and after 60 minutes of driving, at 70mph on the interstate, when 3/4 of the way home, it began violently jerking again and RPM’s were jumping uncontrollably. Again, I struggled to control the vehicle and had to decelerate by removing my foot from the gas pedal. I had to put my emergency lights on, so other vehicles would hopefully go around me. Almost home, I could barely accelerate after stopping for a red light, then my car dramatically slowed to about 10mph with a tractor trailer approaching behind me, though thankfully, on a less-traveled road, so I had time to pull over, not completely stopping because I was afraid it wouldn’t accelerate at all if I did, from experience with the first transmission. After the truck passed, I slowly managed to make it uphill to the next intersection, where again, once accelerating when I turned, the car began jerking erratically. It never made it above 30mph for the last 3 minutes home. It was late at night and very dark. This car - this transmission issue - is absolutely terrifying. To drive along a consistent speed and suddenly have an out-of-control vehicle, with numerous cars around you while driving 70mph, is terrifying. My last transmission died while driving - had that happened on the dark interstate, no doubt I would have caused an accident. I have a 2.5 year old amd 15 year old - there is no way I trust this vehicle with them in it. I’m now afraid of my vehicle stopping in the middle of a busy roadway and causing a catastrophic accident just to get it to the dealership 25 minutes away. Death, injury, and/or trauma is waiting. Our children are worth more than this.
CVT transmission has never been right since the car was nearly new. Shifting was erratic and would slip as it shifted to a higher gear, twice the car lost speed on the highway, motor running and RPM's revving indicating a transmission failure. We had it in to be checked under warranty twice (under 55,000 miles). All they would do is a software upgrade and said there was nothing wrong with it. The problems got worse and we took it to another dealer. They dropped the pan and "checked" for metal shavings. New fluid added and sent on our way again, saying nothing is wrong, that this is normal for a CVT transmission. Obviously no one was going to fix or replace it and all we could do was to continue to drive the vehicle. Now the transmission has failed completely. RPM's jumping up and down, car jerking, loss of power, we were worried of getting rear ended as we couldn't drive at a continuous speed. We barely made to a relatives house to park it. It has been towed to the dealer again and is being checked out. I cannot believe a recall has never been filed for the CVT transmission in these vehicles. Obviously Nissan is not going to do anything about the problem, even though there are thousands of complaints and a class action lawsuit filed against Nissan for this safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle started to rev independently; however, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to his residence. The contact called the manufacturer and made them aware of the failure and it was suggested that the vehicle be towed to the local dealer. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with TSB: PM562 (Power Train). The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer but was informed they would not perform TSB: PM562 (Power Train) repair due to the vehicle not being serviced prior to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 167,000.
While driving the car in the city, the car suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. I was stalled in the middle of an intersection to turn left. I was almost hit several times as the light cycles twice and I traffic wouldn't allow me to push the car. After five minutes, this seemed to rectify itself. However, the car started to shudder and a light grinding could be heard when driving. Then the inability to accelerate started again. I immediately took the vehicle to a repair facility. They inspected the car and said I needed to take the car to a dealer as they felt it was a transmission issue and that my car had a terrible reputation with CVT troubles. I took it to a Nissan dealer and when I described the issue they said it would be 3 weeks before I could be seen. I'm still waiting for the appointment date (Dec 20, 2021)
Car’s engine began to fail and was indicated by RPM meter malfunctioning and car jerking while driving. When breaking and accelerating the car would delay and jerk.
2014 Nissan Sentra -My abs system light came on failed inspection and had to be replaced. I had 32,322 miles on my car. I am 73 years old and for me to pay out over $1000,00 for a part that should not have failed according to the three certified mechanics. The light appeared the day I took it in to get my inspection sticker. This is so disheartening, to say the least. other models have been recalled ...my mechanic said it would be dangerous to drive it ...I contacted Nissan and all they could say was it's not under warranty and they have no recalls on my year. if you could help or direct me how to get help I would greatly appreciate it
Car would shake and stutter in the middle of acceleration. After a stop, my car would hold back and jump before it accelerated again. The RPM meter would also shoot up and the car would begin to pull in the middle of the freeway. Very unsafe.
FIRENo INJURIES0 DEATHS0 The transmission slipping. I would press the gas to try and get the car to move but it would drag The RPM’s kept jumping back and forth causing the car to shake . After making it back my check engine light came on and the car wouldn’t back in once I finally got it home
The check engine light came on while on highway. Attempted to put vehicle in reverse in a busy parking lot but it would not shift. Car is a 2014 Nissan Sentra with only 73700 miles. Mechanic says the transmission is stuck in "fail mode". The car shuddered ever since it was purchased. Dealer suspects the transmission pump is failing.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle jerked and lost motive power. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. After several attempts, the vehicle restarted; however, the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that two years later, while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle jerked and lost motive power. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON WENT TO HAVE IT CHECKED. A CODE OF P17F0 CAME UP. IT'S A CVT/TRANSMISSION ISSUE. MY CAR WON'T ACCELERATE UPON HITTING THE GAS AND IT JERKS AND SHUDDERS ONCE I GAIN SOME SPEED. RPMS JUMP. AT TIMES MY CAR SEEMS TO STALL. I HAVEN'T DRIVEN IT IN WEEK. BECAUSE I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET ESTIMATES ON HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO FIX. I ONLY TAKE THIS VEHICLE TO AND FROM WORK ON REGULAR STREETS. IT'S ONLY A 15 MINUTE DRIVE.
FUEL PUMP FAILURE AT 75K MILES. RESULTED IN VEHICLE SPUTTERING, THEN STALLING, DASHBOARD LIGHTS GOING OUT AND THEN TURNING BACK ON WITH MORE THAN HALF A TANK DIFFERENCE IN THE FUEL READING, AND THEN RAN OUT OF GAS ENTIRELY. BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP WHO DENIED THERE BEING AN OPEN RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE EVER, WHICH IS INCORRECT AS I'VE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FROM A RECALL. THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY UNSTABLE AND IS NOW ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS HOLDING BRAKE FLUID. CAN'T FILL TANK AT THE GAS STATION EITHER BECAUSE REFUELING STOPS IMMEDIATELY EVERY TWO SECONDS AFTER TURNING ON EVEN IF YOU PHYSICALLY HOLD IT THERE... YOU CONTINUE TO HAVE TO CLICK IT BACK ON BECAUSE THE FUEL IS NOT ACCEPTED BY THE VEHICLE. THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED ENTIRELY. IT IS UNSAFE AND HAS STRANDED ME 3 TIMES AND REPAIRS HAVE BEEN UNREASONABLE. NISSAN MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND ISSUE RECALLS THAT WILL FIX THE ISSUES FREE OF CHARGE. AS OF TODAY I'VE BEEN ASKED TO INVEST ANOTHER $3,000.00 TO FIX IT, BUT IT'S WORTH LESS THAN THAT NOW.
WAS SITTING IN THE CAR CLEANING AND LISTENING TO MUSIC NOT LONG AFTER STARTING THE RADIO KEPT GOING ON AND OFF AND THEN WOULDN'T START BUT MOST LIGHTS CAME ON THE GUY I BOUGHT THE CAR OFF OF SAID HE WAS TOLD IT'S THE BATTERY WHICH HE JUST REPLACED LAST YEAR BUT AFTER CHARGING IT A BIT IT STARTED. BUT AFTER DOING FURTHER RESEARCH APPARENTLY IT'S SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE TERMINALS THEY USE ON THIS CAR DRAINING AND DESTROYING THE BATTERY AND THAT IF IT DOESN'T POP UP IN YOUR RECALL [XXX] THEN YOU HAVE TO REPLACE IT AND HAVE IT FIXED WHICH IS OVER $2000 THE CAR ISN'T EVEN WORTH THAT ESPECIALLY WITH THE WEAK SPEAKERS AND OUT OF DATE CD PLAYER NO BLUETOOTH OR REVERSE CAMERA! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 NISSAN SENTRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 40 MPH. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO ST. CHARLES NISSAN (5625 VETERANS MEMORIAL PKWY, ST PETERS, MO 63376) WHO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS MOISTURE ENTERING IN THE REAR LAMP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO INADVERTENTLY DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
WE WERE DRIVING AND WOULD LOSE POWER THEN GOING UP HILL IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING POPPED OFF. WE WOULDN'T EVEN ROLL IN NEUTRAL. IT LOCKED COMPLETELY UP AND HAD TO PUSH IT TO BREAK IT FREE. OUR MACHANIC CHECKED THE FLUID AND SAID IT WAS DARK DARK.
The transmission in my car kept slipping. I would press the gas to try and get the car to accelerate but it would not. The RPM’s kept jumping back and forth causing the car to stutter. After letting it sit for a while it stuttered all the way home. After making it back my check engine light came on and the car would no longer move.
THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONS AFTER 85,000 MILES. LOSS OF POWER.
WHEN I TURN ON MY HEADLIGHTS MY BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON. ABS LIGHT ON DASH STAYS SOLID. WHEN HEADLIGHTS ARE COME CAR LOSES POWER.
LOSS OF POWER, TRANSMISSION JERKING, TRANSMISSION SLIPPING,A BIG RATTLE NOISE, ERROR MESSAGE BEING DISPLAYED. WE BELIEVE THAT IT IS THE CVT TRANSMISSION. IT WAS IN MOTION WHEN ALL OCCURRED.

TRANSMISSION SLIPPING, HESITATING, AND LUNGING. SOME TIMES CAUSES SUDDEN ACCELERATION OR DECELERATION, ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS. CAR IS ALSO STARTING TO MAKE ABNORMAL SOUNDS FROM TIME TO TIME, WHICH STARTED WHEN THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES STARTED. SOMETIMES THE CAR HAS EVEN TRIED TO LUNGE FORWARD WHEN BRAKE IS APPLIED IN A STOPPED POSITION. THIS TRANSMISSION WAS ALREADY CHANGED ONCE BECAUSE ORIGINAL OWNER COMPLAINED OF LACK OF ACCELERATION. THE CAR ONLY HAS 50K ON IT. TAKING IT TO NISSAN SERVICE CENTER THIS WEEKEND! BUT I CAN IMAGINE WHAT I'M GOING TO HEAR.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH A CODE P0101. I HAD MAF SENSOR REPLACED WITH NISSAN PART AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. NOW I AM GETTING A READING FOR LOW VOLTAGE FOR THE MAF SENSOR. AFTER RESEARCHING, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. I NOW HAVE TO TAKE CAR IN TO HAVE ELECTRICAL WIRING AND COMPUTER CHECKED BECAUSE THERE IS SOME PROBLEM WITH THE CAR'S COMPUTER COMMUNICATING WITH MAF SENSOR.SECONDARY PROBLEM IS NOW THE TRACTION LIGHT RANDOMLY KEEPS ILLUMINATING AND CAR LOSES ACCELERATION FROM TIME TO TIME. CAR ONLY HAS 51,000 MILES ON IT.
WHEN I ACELRATE IT SHAKES A LITTLE

PLEASE REFERENCE NHTSA ISSUE 11383950 SUBMITTED DEC 17, 2020. THIS IS ANOTHER ISSUE RELATED TO THE PRIOR SUBMITTED DEC 17TH. ON DEC 26 THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ASKED IF WE HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY, WHICH WE DO NOT, AND THEN TOOK THE CAR IN FOR INSPECTION. THAT SAME DAY WE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION (SCREENSHOTS ATTACHED) THAT CVT ASSEMPLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED (EST $3800). AFTER LOOKING FURTHER ONLINE, THERE ARE VARIOUS COMPLAINTS AND RECALLS REGARDING THIS KNOWN ISSUE. WE WERE NOT INCLUDED IN RECALLS REGARDING CVT TRANSMISSION KNOWN ISSUES. PLEASE HELP GETTING THIS RESOLVED TO OUR SATISFACTION.
CVT TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHOUT ANY SIGNS THAT A PROBLEM WAS PRESENT OR WARNING OF AN ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND UPON DRIVING IT, IT MADE SEVERAL UNEXPLAINED NOISES. THE VEHICLES WAS STOPPED AND WOULD NOT MOVE ANYMORE. NO PRIOR ISSUES OR WARNINGS IN DRIVING IT UP TO THIS INCCIDENT. NISSAN CORPORATE.WAS CONTACTED AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP REPLACE.THE TRANSMISSION OR GIVE ANY DISCOUNTS TOWARDS THE REPLACEMENT WHICH WAS $4,000.. ALSO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WOULD NOT HELP WITH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE OR A DISCOUNT. NISSAN SENT OUT EXTENDED WARRANTIES FOR THIS ISSUE AND KNOWS IT IT A PROBLEM. BUT WILL NOT HELP YOU IF YOU ARE PAST THEIR WARRANTY.
CVT TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. CAR PURCHASED MAY 31, 2019 AT 114174 MILES. CAR CURRENTLY HAS 151232 MILES. DEALERSHIP DID NOT MENTION THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE.
THE TRANSMISSION WOULD OCCASIONALLY SLIP WHILE IN MOTION DURING ACCELERATION. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT INTO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE, WE BROUGHT THE ISSUE TO THEIR ATTENTION. SERVICE DEPARTMENT ADVISED THAT A TCM SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS NEEDED. I LOCATED A SERVICE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN COVERING TCM REPROGRAM COVERING 2013 VEHICLES (SB-10051662-4475). NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS WILL NOT ADDRESS THE 2014 ISSUE AT THIS TIME.
