I'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH A LEAK IN THE ROOF. I ALWAYS NOTICED A DAMP MUSTY SMELL AFTER IT RAINED BUT NEVER FOUND ANYTHING OTHER THAN REAR SLIDING WINDOW WAS DAMP UNTIL AFTER A HEAVY RAIN I MADE A SHARP LEFT AND CAUGHT OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY EYE WATER FLYING OUT OF THE SLIDING WINDOW TRACK. I'VE TRIED LOOKING TO SEE WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM BUT CAN'T FIND THE EXACT LOCATION. LET ME POINT OUT I NEVER USE THE REAR WINDOW. AFTER MONTHS AND YRS OF FRUSTRATION I SILICONED THE ENTIRE REAR WINDOW AND TOOK OFF BRAKE LIGHT AND DID THAT TOO BUT STILL GETTING WATER. I'VE READ ONLINE ITS VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NO REMEDY YET. *TR
MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN REAR DIFF SEALS LEAK AND HAS CAUSED A BRAKE FAILURE. I PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY REAR END LOCKS UP. IT TOOK A FEW MOMENTS TO GET HER GOING AGAIN IN REVERSE. I JACKED IT UP AND REMOVED THE TIRES AND REMOVED THE ROTORS. THE PAD ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM FAIL OFF. IT STILL HAD PLENTY OF PAD LEFT ON IT. MY FATHER LOOKED AT IT AND NOTICED THE FLUID LEAKING FROM MY REAR END. HE TOLD ME THAT PROBABLY CAUSED THE FAILURE DUE TO THE CONTAMINATION. REPLACED THE PAD AND ADDED SOME OILED TO THE REAR END. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND OTHER BRAKE FAILURES ALSO. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. MY EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAKS ALSO. I AM REPLACING IT TOO. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TITANS. THIS MAY BE OF MORE CONCERN WITH THE EPA. PARK - IGNITION INTERLOCK IS DEFECTIVE AND ALLOWS THE KEY TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WITHOUT THE VEHICLE BEING IN PARK. THIS POTENTIALLY ALLOWS THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY AND CAUSE DAMAGE OR INJURY. *TR
MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN TRUCK LEAKS ON THE FLOORBOARD WHEN IT RAINS THIS HAPPENS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. ELECTRICAL WIRING IS LAYING IN A PUDDLE OF WATER. WATER ALSO POURS OUT OF THE DOORS. THE ENTIRE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE IS COVERED IN MOLD AND NOW RUST HAS APPEARED. THIS INCLUDES CARPET, SEATS, STEERING WHEEL AND MORE. FRONT RIGHT WHEEL IS ALSO RUSTED. DUE TO THE WATER PROBLEMS THERE IS CONDENSATION ON THE WINDSHIELD WHICH MAKES VISIBILITY POOR. ATTEMPTS MADE BY THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THIS PROBLEM HAS FAILED. *TR
NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND HABITS 2004 NISSAN TITAN CREW CAB PRE-MATURE FAILURE OF REAR AXLE SEALS BOTH LEFT HAND & RIGHT HAND REAR AXLE SEALS ARE LEAKING @ 54,000 MILES. REAR DIFFERENTIAL OIL ON INBOARD SIDES OF BRAKE DISCS DUE TO LEAK/S CAUSING REDUCED BRAKING ACTION. SEALS WILL BE REPLACED POSSIBLY DICTATING AXLE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE NISSAN HAS NO TOOLING TO REMOVE THE AXLE BEARINGS. *TR
THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE OCCURRED YESTERDAY 11/1/09 AS I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT AND PUT ON MY BRAKES AND THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SHUDDER AND A SPRING LIKE NOISE OCCURRED. IN ADDITION THE BRAKES WERE SOFT AND SCRAPING SOUND OCCURRED WHEN APPLIED. THIS OCCURRED EACH TIME I APPLIED THE BRAKES FOR THE NEXT 4MILES UNTIL I ARRIVED HOME. THE BRAKE LIGHT REMAINED ON THE ENTIRE TIME UNTIL I ARRIVED HOME. I CALLED THE DEALER AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR TODAY, MONDAY. LATE SATURDAY, I HAD TO MOVE MY VEHICLE AT HOME AND NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS OFF AND THE BRAKES WORKED NORMALLY WITHOUT ANY SOUND OR SOFTNESS.THE SAME THING HAPPENED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO. AT THAT TIME I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND LEFT THE VEHICLE WITH THE DEALER OVERNIGHT BECAUSE IT WAS LATE IN THE DAY NEAR CLOSING.. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER SAID THEY TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR A TEST DRIVE AND IT REACTED NORMALLY AND "IT PROBABLY WAS SOME DIRT/DUST IN AND AROUND THE BRAKES CAUSING THE BRAKES TO STICK'.. THERE WAS NO WORK DONE ON THE VEHICLE. TODAY, THE SAME DEALER LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE AND RAN SOME TESTS AFTER I INSISTED THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE SAME THING HAS OCCURRED. THIS TIME THE DEALER FOUND A DEFECTIVE/WORN DELTA SPEED SENSOR AND RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THEY SAID IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS THE WARRANTY EXPIRED 1/1/09.
WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN, I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THEN A SHAKE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TELL ME THAT MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL GAVE OUT AND NOW THE WHOLE REAR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT WILL COST ME $3000 TO FIX. MY MILEAGE IS 55,600 AND MY WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED IN JULY. NISSAN USA SAID THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME, ESPECIALLY SINCE I DON'T PAY THEM TO DO MY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. *TR
2004 NISSAN TITAN LE 4WD. BOTH REAR AXLE SEALS LEAKING. NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
2004 NISSAN TITAN REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL IS OUT 108, 000 MILES. WATER WAS FOUND IN CASE DUE TO SEALS GOING OUT DUE TO BREATHER HOSE CLOGGING AND NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. *TR
MY BRAKES APPEAR TO MAKE A GROAN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL SHOVE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE STOPPING. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT ONCE EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE FOUND THAT IF I PULL OFF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE TRUCK IT APPEARS TO RESET EVERYTHING AND THE BRAKES ARE JUST FINE. MY TRUCK IS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN THAT HAS ~55,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE NO ADVANCE WARNING THAT THIS FAILURE IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN IT JUST HAPPENS WITHOUT ANY ADVANCE WARNING. *TR
PULLED SLOWLY FROM A MCDONALD'S DRIVE THROUGH INTO HALTED TRAFFIC (RED LIGHT). AS I PULLED OUT OF DRIVE THROUGH, HEARD BIG BANG AND FELT LIKE I HAD BEEN REAR-ENDED. TRIED TO ACCELERATE, TRUCK WOULD NOT MOVE, AND I COULD HEAR AN AUDIBLE CLICKING NOISE AT WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN TIRE ROTATION SPEED. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. CHARGED $3,798.22 TO REPLACE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. WAITING TO HEAR BACK FORM NISSAN TO SEE IF THEY WILL REIMBURSE FOR AT LEAST COST OF PART(3223.00.) *TR
UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE REAR AXLE SEALS BEGAN LEAKING AND DAMAGED THE REAR BRAKES. THE AXLE SEALS AND SPACERS NEED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH PARKING BRAKE AND REAR BRAKE PADS.*TR

TURNING STEERING WHEEL. STEERING RACK PULLED APART. TOTAL LOSS OF POWER ASSISTED STEERING AND COMPLETE STEERING FLUID LOSS. WHEN FLUID LOSS OCCURRED IT SPRAYED ALL THE FLUID TO THE LEFT SATURATING INSIDE BRAKE PAD AND ROTOR. NO ACTION TAKEN YET JUST OCCURED. PART STILL ON TRUCK. *TR
I PARKED MY TRUCK SUNDAY MORNING (9-27-09) AT ABOUT 3:30AM, NO PROBLEMS. THAT AFTERNOON SHE TOOK OUR SON TO THE STORE AND HEARD A CLANKING IN THE BACK END. SHE SAID IT WAS HEARD BEST ABOUT 20 MPH AFTER LETTING OFF THE GAS. LATER FOUND A PUDDLE OF GEAR FLUID THAT WAS DRIPPING FROM THE FRONT OF THE REAR GEAR HOUSING. I HAVE 66,244 MILES, JUST 6,000 OUT OF WARRANTY. MY MECHANIC SAID A BOLT HAD LOOSENED UP CAUSING THE PINION TO SLIP TO THE REAR. VERY CLOSE TO HAVING A COMPLETE LOCK UP. *TR
NOTICED FLUID LEAKING AROUND BOTH REAR TIRES , FLUID COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. NISSAN TITAN DOES NOT EVEN HAVE 55K ON IT YET. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT I HAVE NOTICED, BUT WILL IT HAPPEN AGAIN I WILL FOLLOW UP. *TR
2004 NISSIAN TITAN: REAR AXLE SEAL LEAK CAUSING OIL TO GET ON REAR BRAKE PADS. *TR
MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN HAS BEEN HAVING PERIODIC COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THIS HAS OCCURRED 7-8 TIMES. STARTED ABOUT 25,000 MI, CURRENTLY AT 34,000 MI. TOOK TO DEALER ON 8-1-09, DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER, SAID IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ABS AND VDC CONTROLS AND THAT THIS WOULD FIX IT, YESTERDAY ON 8-22-09 IT HAPPENED AGAIN AFTER NORMAL DRIVING AS I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY, VERY SCARY. WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS, IF YOU SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART, THE BRAKES ARE BACK AND SEEM TO BE WORKING FINE, THEY CAN GO FOR A WHILE WITH NO PROBLEM, THEN ONE DAY THEY WILL JUST NOT BE THERE, PUMPING THE BRAKE GIVES LITTLE BRAKE EFFECT AND A NOISE EMITS FROM UNDER THE HOOD, A STRANGE SOUND I HAVE NEVER HEARD COME FROM A VEHICLE BEFORE, BRAKES WILL GO TO FLOOR AND WILL NOT STOP IF HELD, HAVE TO PUMP LIKE CRAZY AND RESORT TO EMERGENCY STOPPING METHODS SUCH AS E-BRAKE, DOWNSHIFT AND RUBBING TIRES AGAINST CURB OR DRIVING INTO SOFT SAND TO STOP VEHICLE. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH TITANS AND ARMADAS (SAME EXACT VEHICLE MECHANICALLY). THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, I AM USED TO OLD CARS THAT HAVE PROBLEMS, THIS REALLY CATCHES YOU OFF GUARD. I WISH TO FILE A COMPLAINT AS THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE FOR ROAD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT 52,000 MILES THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE DIFFERENTIAL SEAL FAILED. ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2009 HE NOTICED A LEAK FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION HE CONCLUDED THAT THE LEFT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,500. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE. BL
2004 NISSAN TITAN - 50,000K MILES. NOTICED A REAR SEAL LEAKING ONTO BY TIRES AND ON MY BRAKES FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. UNIT HAS NOT FAILED AS OF DATE BUT SERVICE DEPT SAYS ANY DAY IT WILL. GRENADA NISSAN OFFERED TO REPLACE BECAUSE OF KNOWN ISSUES, BUT NISSAN HEADQUARTERS HAS NOT HONORED WARRANTY TO DATE, B/C IT IS 6 MONTHS TOO LATE. WILL NOT HONOR WARRANTY. CONCERNED IF IT FAILS AT INTERSECTION OR GOING DOWN ROAD AN ACCIDENT WITH BODILY INJURY CAN OCCUR. THE FLUID ON BRAKES MAY ALSO CAUSE SLIPPAGE WHILE BRAKING. VERY DANGEROUS. NISSAN QUOTED REPAIR NEAR 3500$. HAS BEEN KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN AND NHTSA. OVER 70 COMPLAINTS FILED, LUCKILY NO INJURY TODATE. THIS FAILURE IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN NA, AND HAVE YET TO FIX FLAW ON THIS VEHICLE. PLEASE BEWARE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO NOT ONLY THE VEHICLE'S DRIVER AND PASSENGER, BUT TO OTHERS ON THE ROAD AS WELL. *TR

2004 NISSAN TITAN CREWCAB SLE -2 WHEEL DRIVE. FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME, COMING TO A STOP SIGN I PUT ON THE BRAKES AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD NO CONTROL OF MY BRAKES. HEARD LOUD NOISES LIKE THE ABS WAS KICKING IN AND OUT AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES HARDER TO GET THE TRUCK TO STOP. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL I GOT THE TRUCK HOME. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET WITH NISSAN TITAN WEB FORUMS I FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE WITH TITAN'S HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. FROM WHAT I GATHER IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS THE BRAKE BOOSTER AT FAULT. ALSO I FOUND OUT THAT ONCE YOU TURN OFF THE IGNITION THE SYSTEM RESETS ITSELF AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE BACK TO NORMAL. I THINK NISSAN NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER PROBLEMS THAT PEOPLE ARE HAVING AND RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. NISSAN WANTS $850 OR MORE TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER (TRUCK OUT OF WARRANTY). NISSAN NEEDS TO COME CLEAN AND REALIZE THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR TITAN'S BRAKE BOOSTER. *TR
I AM A OWNER OF A 2004 NISSAN TITAN WHO HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS IN THE PAST. HOWEVER, I ALMOST GOT INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT YESTERDAY, AS I HAD NO BRAKING ON MY REAR WHEELS. AFTER INSPECTING THE REAR BRAKES AND WHY THEY FAILED, I NOTICED THAT MY SEALS ON THE REAR AXEL IS LEAKING OIL ONTO MY BRAKES PADS. *TR
2004 NISSAN TITAN; REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING: 1. IN SHOP FOR TIRE ROTATION, MECHANIC SAW FLUID FROM REAR AXLE ON INSIDE OF MY WHEELS. 2. NOT SURE HOW LONGS ITS BEEN LEAKING. APPEARS TO BE AN ON GOING PROBLEM FOR OTHER NISSAN TITAN OWNERS (MULTIPLE SEAL REPLACEMENTS). CONSEQUENCES ARE FLUID CAN LEAK ONTO BRAKES CAUSING A BRAKING FAILURE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH AND POSSIBLE DEATH. 3. NOTHING DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT PROVIDE SUFFICIENT BRAKING POWER TO HOLD VEHICLE IN PLACE OR PROVIDE ANY NOTICEABLE BRAKING. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO HAVE THE BRAKES SERVICED. THE REAR BRAKE PADS, DISCS, AND CABLES WHERE REPLACED AND NO IMPROVEMENT IN PERFORMANCE WAS OBSERVED. *TR
REAR AXLE SEALS ARE LEAKING CAUSING DIFFICULT BRAKING, GRINDING NOISE AND TAKE OFF PROBLEMS. VEHICLE IS AN 2004 TITAN WITH 58500 MILES. ALL STOCK, NO TOWING. DEALER WILL LOOK AT IT BUT WON'T WARRANTY WORK. *TR
BRAKES GO INTO IN ABS MODE FOR NO REASON, TRUCK BECOMES HARD TO STOP; ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY- 80 DEGREES AND SUNNY. I WAS COMING HOME FROM THE NISSAN DEALER BECAUSE OF A BRAKE, SLIP, VDC LIGHT (ANYTIME) AND BRAKE LIGHT - ABS COMING ON (ONLY DURING BRAKING), BOTH ARE INTERMITTENT. THE FRIDAY BEFORE I HAD NISSAN LOOK AT THIS VERY CONDITION(S) THEY AGREED I HAD A PROBLEM, AND UPGRADED THE SOFTWARE. 2 DAYS LATER THE LIGHT STILL CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS AFTER SHUTTING DOWN THE TRUCK AND RESTARTING, THE LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON, SOMETHING THAT DID NOT USE TO HAPPEN. . . NISSAN HAS A BRAKE ISSUE, I'VE SEEN MANY OF COMPLAINTS THAT ARE THE SAME AS MINE- LOSS OF BRAKING BECAUSE THE ABS KICKS ON (BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THIS HAPPENS) AND WILL NOT CORRECT/STOP IT-SELF UNTIL THE ENGINE IS SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED. RESTARTING THE TRUCK WHEN THE ABS IS HAMPERING THE STOPPING ABILITY IS NOT VERY PRACTICAL, AND VERY DANGEROUS IN MOST DRIVING CONDITIONS. WHEN THIS HAPPENED TO ME I CAME VERY CLOSE TO HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT AND SWERVED TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD. SINCE THE 2ND VISIT TO NISSAN I HAD THE MASTER CYLINDER WITH STABILITY CONTROL OPTION REPLACED, THAT WAS THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDATION AFTER THEY DOWNLOADED THE CODES(X2), THEY STATED THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED. COST FOR REPAIR WAS QUOTED AT $650.00. *TR
LEFT REAR BRAKES WET FROM BLOWN DIFFERENTIAL SEAL. *TR
NOTICED REDUCED BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS, LOOKED UNDER VEHICLE AT REAR BRAKES, FLUID HAS BEEN LEAKING FROM FAULTY REAR AXLE SEALS, CAUSING FLUID TO CONTAMINATE BRAKE PARTS, CREATING A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
THE SIDE AIR BAGS OF MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN DEPLOYED AS I WAS DRIVING. THERE WAS NO IMPACT, I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30MPH ON A ASPHALT SURFACED ROAD WHEN THE AIR BAGS JUST DEPLOYED. LUCKILY I WAS ONLY GOING 30MPH SO I DID NOT CRASH. NISSAN HAS BEEN CONTACTED BUT IT SEEMS THAT THEY'RE GOING OUT OF THEIR WAY TO TRY AN PROVE THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS IN A WRECK. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED AND HAS A CLEAN CARFAX AS WELL AS AN AUTOCHECK. *TR
BOTH REAR AXLE SEALS ARE LEAKING ON MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS REPLACED ONCE ALREADY. WHEN THE SEALS LEAK THE GEAR OIL SPREADS ONTO THE BRAKE BACKING AND INTERIOR OF THE WHEEL CAUSING POTENTIAL BRAKE PROBLEMS. *TR
REAR AXLE SEAL LEAK. 3RD FAILURE OF SAME SEAL IN 6 MONTHS. FAILURE RESULTS IN DIFFERENTIAL FLUID LEAKING ONTO BRAKES RESULTING IN BRAKING LIMITATIONS AND FAILURE, POTENTIAL FOR FIRE. DEALER IS PRESUMABLY GOING TO REPLACE SEAL... AGAIN. *TR
REAR SHACKLE IN 2004-2008 NISSAN TITAN IS WEAK DESIGN, PRONE TO FAILURE. I HAVE PROOF OF SEVERAL DOCUMENTED CASES IN WHICH THE REAR SHACKLE UNFOLDS AND THE LEAF SPRING SLAMS THROUGH THE BED OF THE TRUCK, WHICH CAN RESULT IN SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL. IT HAS HAPPENED DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, AS WELL AS WHEN TOWING, OFF-ROADING, ETC. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, BEFORE IT HAPPENS, ALL THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IS TO REPLACE THE SHACKLES BEFORE THEY FAIL AND BECOME A SAFETY CONCERN. IF THE SHACKLE FAILS, IT MUST BE REPLACED, AND THE ENTIRE SUSPENSION SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE INSPECTED FOR SAFETY, AND THE BED MUST BE REPLACED. *TR

AXEL SEAL LEAK ON A LONG 2,500 VACATION DRIVE THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A BAD ACCIDENT IF ALL THE GEAR OIL WOULD HAVE BEEN LOST. LUCK IT WAS DISCOVERED SOON ENOUGH THAT I COULD FILL THE DIFF BACK UP. SEALS HAVE BEEN REPLACED PREVIOUSLY AS WELL AS THE WHOLE AXEL ON A DIFFERENT OCCASION. THESE AXEL AND AXEL SEAL PROBLEMS MAY CAUSE A DEADLY ACCIDENT ONE DAY. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 54,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN TITAN WITH A DANA REAR AXLE. I WAS NOTIFIED BY A NISSAN DEALER THAT THE AXLE SEAL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE AXLE FLUID WAS DRAINING DOWN THE REAR BRAKE WHICH COULD SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE BRAKING PERFORMANCE AND RESULT IN AN UNSAFE DRIVING SITUATION. *TR
REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE. REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDED TOTAL REPLACEMENT. DEALER INSPECTION NOTED THAT IF VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ANY FURTHER A TOTAL LOCK UP OR INABILITY TO BE DRIVEN WOULD OCCUR. APPEARS TO BE A LONG LIST OF REAR AXEL/DIFFERENTIAL FAILURES WITH THIS VEHICLE. DEALER NOTED IT ALSO APPEARS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT HAS OCCURRED NOT JUST ON HIGH MILEAGE VEHICLES. REAR WHEEL SEALS CONTINUE TO LEAK EVEN AFTER BEING REPLACED,DIFFERENTIAL AND AXLE HAVE TOO MUCH PLAY IN THE PUMPKIN AREA,CAUSING THE SEALS TO BREAK. THE DEALER HAD MY TRUCK FOR (14) DAYS DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AFTER DISASSEMBLING THE DIFFERENTIAL DUE TO A CONFLICT BETWEEN THEM AND MY EXTENDED WARRANTY ON WHO WAS GOING TO PAY FOR THE ($3,000.00) REAR. THIS HAS LEFT ME IN LIMBO SO I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER TO DISCUSS THE MODIFIED REAR THAT THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN KC SE 4X4 HAS HAD REAREND PROBLEMS 3 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED MY TRUCK. I HAVE HAD AXLE SEALS REPLACED, DIFFERENTIAL ISSUES, AND NOW FOR THE 3RD TIME, THE DEALERSHIP HAS MY TRUCK OVER 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND! THE SPIDER GEARS LITERALLY FELL APART INSIDE MY DIFFERENTIAL. MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND I HAVE ONLY 85,000 MILES ON IT! THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULDN'T BREAK! I DO NOT TOW, I RARELY USE 4-WHEEL DRIVE! I HEARD A THUMPING NOISE COMING FROM MY REAREND, SO WHILE GETTING ANOTHER RECALL ISSUE RESOLVED HAD THE DEALERSHIP TAKE A LOOK....$3,500 WORTH OF WORK! HUDSON NISSAN HAS BEEN GREAT THROUGH MY OWNERSHIP! THEY DO ALL OF MY TITAN'S MAINTENANCE, AND THEY ARE THE BEST! AT 55,000 MILES THE REAR AXLE SEALS FAILED ON MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE SEAL FAILURE CAUSED A LEAK WHICH SATURATED THE REAR BRAKE APPARATUS AND REDUCED ITS HOLDING ABILITY. I REPORTED THIS TO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER AND IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THAT AN UPGRADED REAR AXLE WAS INSTALLED TO ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PREMATURE SEAL FAILURE. AT 138,000 MILES THE REAR AXLE SEALS HAVE FAILED AGAIN DESPITE REGULAR FLUID CHANGES, AND THE REAR BRAKE APPARATUS IS ONCE AGAIN SOILED WITH GEAR LUBE. I BELIEVE THIS CONSTITUTES A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS A RECALL. THE DEALER REFUSES TO REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY AND STATES THAT THERE IS NO RECALL. BASED ON MY RESEARCH, THIS IS A VERY WIDESPREAD FAILURE ON THE NISSAN TITAN AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER TITAN OWNERS IN THE U.S. WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *JS

SHE WAS UPSET THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE A TOTAL OF 75 MILES IN ORDER TO HAVE HER VEHICLE REPAIRED. SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT LIABLE FOR THE DISTANCE SHE HAD TO TRAVEL TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE.
