PULLING A TRAILER WHEN THE ABS & SLIP LIGHTS CAME ON, THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER GETTING TO THE CAMP SITE I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND THAT THE WIRING HARNESS HAD BURNED AND MELTED FUSING SEVERAL WIRES TOGETHER. THIS CAUSED ME TO HAVE NO ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROL TO MY TRAILER. ALSO SOME FIRE DAMAGE TO THE UNDER FRAME AND OTHER PARTS OF VEHICLE...UPDATED 10/01/14 *BF
I BOUGHT A NISSAN TITAN 2008 6 WEEKS AGO THAT HAD 5 BRAND NEW GOOD YEAR TITAN TIRES PUT ON AT PURCHASE; 4 ON THE TRUCK ONE ON THE SPARE. WITHIN 3 DAYS OF EACH OTHER 2 WENT FLAT. THE FIRST WAS RULED AS A FACTORY DEFECT BY THE TIRE REPAIR SHOP. THE SECOND THE SHOP WAS NOT SURE, IT HAD A HOLE IN THE TREAD AREA BUT HAD NO NAIL OR ANY OTHER CAUSE OF PUNCTURE. ANYWAY HE RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERS SHIP TO GET THE TIRES ADJUSTED AND REPLACED. THEY REFUSED TO DO SO AND NOT KNOWING THAT I USE TO WORK ON TIRES MYSELF PROCEEDED TO BLAME ME FOR THE FLATS. I INFORMED THE MAN HE WAS WRONG AND HE SAID I COULD TAKE IT TO A GOOD YEAR SERVICE CENTER FOR A SECOND OPINION; WHICH I DID. GOOD YEAR SAID THE SAME THING AS THE ORIGINAL TIRE GUY, "FACTORY DEFECT" HE ALSO STATED I HAD "P" RATED TIRES ON MY TITAN AND IN HIS OPINION I SHOULD HAVE "LT" RATED TIRES ON MY TRUCK. THESE FLATS OCCURRED WITH MY TRUCK SETTING IN THE DRIVEWAY THANK GOD. THE DEALERSHIP WAS COUNTRY FORD OF SOUTHAVEN MS. THE MAN WHO LIED TO ME AND ACCUSED ME OF BEING AT FAULT WAS NAMED [XXX]. THE GOOD YEAR MAN SAID WHEN HE SPOKE TO THEM HE WAS TOLD BY ANOTHER GUY THAT THEY WOULDN'T RESOLVED THE TIRE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY HAD 4 MONTHS OF ADJUSTMENTS THEY HAD NOT BEEN PAID FOR YET. THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM; NOW SINCE THEY ARE THE ONES WHO PUT THE P RATED CAR TIRES ON MY TRUCK; AND NOT LT RATED TRUCK TIRES THEY HAVE PUT ME AND ANYONE ELSE RIDING WITH ME AS WELL AS ANYONE DRIVING NEAR ME IN DANGER. RECENTLY THE LOW RANGE SHIFT HAS STOPPED WORKING. I USE THE LOWER RANGE TO HOLD BACK THE TRAILER THAT I TOW AND I AM UNABLE TO USE IT SO I HAVE TO USE MY BRAKES WHEN GOING DOWNHILL. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED IN AUGUST 2009 WITH 16,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE ONLY PUT 30,000 MILES ON IT AND EXPECT IT TO PERFORM LONGER. *TR
THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM ON THE NISSAN TITAN IS INADEQUATE OR POORLY DESIGNED. MY TRUCK HAS HAD THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED TWICE IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS, WITH MINIMAL USAGE OF THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM, AND UNDER APPROPRIATE CONDITIONS. GRINDING NOISES HAS BEEN FELT AND HEARD FROM THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL WHEN ENGAGING INTO 4HI, WHICH IS CAPABLE OF BEING SHIFTED ON THE FLY. WHEN ENGAGING INTO 4HI AND EXPERIENCING NOISES SUCH AS THIS WHILE ALREADY MOVING AT SPEED- 20-30MPH, IT IS RATHER UNSETTLING. TO THE AVERAGE CONSUMER WHO IS NOT A MECHANIC (WHICH I AM) THIS IS PROBABLY EVEN MORE FRIGHTENING TO EXPERIENCE. THE DIFFERENTIAL INSTALLED IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR WAS A REVISED VERSION, TO HAVE SUPPOSEDLY CORRECT ISSUES WHICH MANY TITANS HAVE FACED IN EARLIER PRODUCTION YEARS. THIS DIFFERENTIAL FAILED WITHIN 3 MONTHS. THE TRUCK WAS JUST FIXED LAST WEEK WITH ANOTHER REVISED DIFFERENTIAL, WE'LL SEE HOW LONG THIS ONE LASTS. AFTERMARKET WARRANTY AND DEALER PARTS WARRANTY HAVE COVERED ALL REPAIRS ASIDE FROM A DEDUCTIBLE, HOWEVER SOMEONE NOT WITH THIS WARRANTY WOULD HAVE FACED REPAIRS IN THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS RANGE. WITH MISS-USE I CAN UNDERSTAND PATS FAILING, HOWEVER THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. *TR
THE NISSAN TITAN BUTTON ON THE SHIFT LEVER THAT SHIFTS MANUALLY, AFTER MANUAL SHIFT IS TURNED ON, STOPPED WORKING. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS PULLING A TRAILER COMING DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAINS. THIS LEFT MY TRANSMISSION IN 4TH GEAR AND WAS NOT ABLE TO USE THE COMPRESSION TO HELP SLOW ME DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK BACK INTO NORMAL AUTOMATIC MODE AND I HAD TO RIDE MY BREAKS DOWN THE MOUNTAIN TO A FLAT AREA AND SWAP VEHICLES TO TOW THE TRAILER. AFTER THIS INCIDENT I FOUND THAT THIS ISSUE IS VERY COMMON AND IS SPECIFICALLY CAUSED BY NORMAL USE OF THE VEHICLE. MEANING USING THE SHIFT LEVER TO PULL THE TUCK OUT OF PARK AND BACK INTO PARK. THIS MOTION STARTS BREAKING THE WIRING ON THE CONTROLLER. NISSAN STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING ON RECORD OF THIS BEING A SAFETY RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWN A 2008 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A ODOR OF EXHAUST FUMES COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DETAILS OF THE REPAIRS WERE UNKNOWN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 169,237.
WE JUST TOOK OUR 2008 NISSAN TITAN INTO HAVE OIL CHANGED WE HAD JUST GOTTEN THE VEHICLE A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE AND FOUND OUT THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WERE CRACKED WITH ONLY 66K MILES ON IT! THIS TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO TOW PACKAGE AND NOT USED FOR HAULING OR HEAVY WORK. WE HAD NO IDEA THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLES OR WE WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT ONE. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE ONLINE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS NOW THAT I HAVE LOOKED UP THE EXACT PROBLEM WHICH I DIDN'T KNOW EXISTED. PLEASE MAKE THIS A RECALL. I HAVE HEARD THAT "THEIR FIX" DOESN'T WORK AND WILL CRACK AGAIN. *TR
CLEAR COAT IS PEELING ALL OVER THE ENTIRE BODY OF VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE A LEAK IN MY EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND AT THIS TIME NO FUMES HAVE COME INTO CABIN YET BUT DO TO SO MANY PROBLEMS OF THIS TYPE AND WHEN YOU REPLACE THEM THE MANIFOLD ARE CRACKED AGAIN. *TR
TOOK MY TITAN IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND THE SERVICE PERSON NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT AND LEFT REAR AXLE SEALS ARE LEAKING. THE SERVICE PERSON FOUND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (NTB-10-032) FOR THIS PROBLEM AND BULLETIN SAYS TO REPLACE THE AXLE SHAFT ASSEMBLY WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED ASSEMBLY. THE LEAKING GEAR OIL CAN EASILY GET ON THE REAR BRAKES AND MAKE THEM FAIL. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY ISSUE, NOT JUST A MINOR DEFECT. *TR
OVERHEAD CONSOLE PLASTIC BECOMES TOO BRITTLE TO SUPPORT WEIGHT OF CONSOLE CAUSING MOUNT POINTS TO BREAK ALLOWING CONSOLE TO SWING DOWN. MY CONSOLE NEARLY HIT ME IN SIDE OF THE HEAD. THIS CAUSE VIEW TO BE OBSTRUCTED AND COULD EASILY HIT DRIVER. UPON RESEARCHING THIS FOR REPAIR I FOUND MANY OTHER HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. MY GUESS IS AN INFERIOR BATCH OF PLASTIC IN THE 08 LINEUP. *TR
AT ALL TIMES WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE REAR END OF MY TRUCK SHAKES FROM 55-80 MILES PER HOUR (PRETTY MUCH THE USABLE SPEED RANGE OF THE TRUCK IS NOW WORTHLESS). THE TRUCK WOBBLES SO MUCH NOW THAT IT FEELS UNSAFE TO DRIVE EVEN AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM I.E. NEW TIRES, NEW RIMS AND NEW TIRES, BALANCING, ALIGNMENTS. RESEARCH THAT I HAVE DONE HAS DETERMINED THAT THIS IS A VERY WIDE-SPREAD PROBLEM AND MANY OWNERS/OPERATORS OF THE NISSAN TITAN REFER TO THIS VIOLENT SHAKING AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" I HAVE SPOKE WITH MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT NISSAN OF AMERICA IS NOT INTERESTED IN ADDRESSING THIS EPIDEMIC THAT IS EFFECTING SO MANY OF THE TITANS THEY HAVE MANUFACTURED. THE PROBLEM IS LARGE ENOUGH THAT NISSAN HAS PUBLISHED A TSB WHICH INCLUDES NECESSARY PARTS THAT MUST BE PURCHASED THAT MAY ONLY ALLEVIATE THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND NOT CURE IT. I AM SAD THAT NISSAN OF AMERICA IS NOT STANDING BEHIND ITS PRODUCT TO FIX AN ISSUE THAT IS CLEARLY HAZARDOUS NOT ONLY TO THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF THE TITAN, BUT ALL THOSE THAT ARE SHARING THE ROAD WITH THESE AFFECTED VEHICLES. MY PERSONAL NOTE IS THAT MY TRUCK FEELS SO HAZARDOUS THAT I WILL NO LONGER TRANSPORT MY WIFE OR MY 3 CHILDREN IN IT AND I THINK SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
INITIAL PROBLEM WAS WHEN I STOPPED AT THE LIGHT. THEN WILE IT TURNED GREEN AND TRUCK STARTED ROLLING IT STOPPED JUST LIKE OSMEONE WOULD STEPPED HARDLY ON THE BRAKES OR HIT ME FROM BEHIND. I THOUGHT IT WAS ISOLATED INCIDENT ABOUT COUPLE DAYS LATER IT STARTED MAKING NOISE IN THE REAR SECTION. I STOPPED DRIVING THE VEHICLE. TOWED TO NISSAN SADLY WARRANTY RAN OUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR THE DELIVERY TO NISSAN, HOWEVER INCIDENT HAPPENED PRIOR THE EXPIRATION THE WARRANTY. NISSAN DEALER SAID REAR END ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE REPLACED. NISSAN SAID THEY WILL NTO COVER THE COST OF REPAIR. *TR
NISSAN TITAN FUEL LINE COVER MADE FROM SOY MATERIAL. RODENT AND SMALL ANIMALS ARE ATTRACTED TO THE SOY MATERIAL AND CHEW THROUGH THE LINE, CAUSING FUEL FUMES OR FUEL TO LEAK. THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. NISSAN REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR FIX THE ISSUE. AFTER CONTACTING NISSAN, NISSAN ADVISES CUSTOMERS TO REPLACE PART AND COST THEMSELVES, PART IS REPLACED WITH SAME MATERIAL CAUSING THE SAME PROBLEM. PART IS NOT JUST A FUEL LINE, IT IS A WHOLE FUEL TANK SYSTEM AS LINE IS CONNECTED TO THE TANK SYSTEM. SOME NISSAN TITAN OWNERS HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK SYSTEM MORE THAN ONCE, BECAUSE OF THE SAME PROBLEM REPEATING ITSELF. WHEN TAKING THE VEHICLE TO NISSAN DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TREATMENT, NISSAN TRAINED MECHANICS ACKNOWLEDGE ISSUE AND ADMIT IT IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM. IF THE DEALERSHIP KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE, WHY IS NISSAN CORPORATION NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR A PROBLEM THAT IS NOT A CUSTOMERS FAULT BUT AN ISSUE THAT STARTED FROM THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURE PART AT ASSEMBLY, IT IS A NISSAN PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT A VEHICLE USAGE PROBLEM, IT IS NOT A VEHICLE MAINTENANCE ISSUE, IT IS A PART/ASSEMBLY ISSUE BY THE NISSAN COMPANY. A SIMPLE ONLINE RESEARCH FOR THIS ISSUE HAS BROUGHT UP NUMEROUS FINDINGS FOR NISSAN TITAN OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. VEHICLES CARRY STATIC ELECTRICITY, IT TAKES ONE SPARK OR STOPPING THE VEHICLE OVER ONE CARELESSLY DISCARDED CIGARETTE FOR ANY NISSAN TITAN TO CATCH FIRE. NISSAN SHOULD TAKE CONCERN INTO RESOLVING THIS MATTER AND PROTECT THEIR NISSAN DRIVERS FROM DRIVING BASICALLY A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT/DEATH MACHINE WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME THE TRUCK REVVED AND LOST POWER, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR THE TRUCK REGAINED POWER AND I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY DRIVE THE TRUCK HOME. IT HAPPENED TWICE MORE ON THAT SAME DRIVE HOME. I TOOK IT DOWN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. I EXPLAINED IT ONLY HAD 22,000 MILES ON IT AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN ABUSED IN ANYWAY. THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO BREAK. WE USE IT MAINLY FOR THE DOGS TO TRAVEL IN AND WHEN GUESS ARE IN TOWN WE HAVE AN EXTRA VEHICLE RUN TO THE STORE AND BACK. HONESTLY THE TRUCK DOES VERY LITTLE BUT SHOW OFF THE DOGS WHEN THEY GET TO GO TO THE MARKET AND BACK. WE CALL AND TALKED WITH THE NISSAN REP. WHOSE NAME IS [XXX] WHO IS OUR DISTRICT MANAGER, HE SIMPLY TOLD US THAT THE WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER IN EFFECT AND WE WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL EXPENSES. I MENTIONED THE UNFAIRNESS OF THE SITUATION, HIS RESPONSE WAS I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALER FOR ALL OF ITS MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE RECOMMENDATIONS. WHEN I MENTIONED THAT WE HAD ALL THE MAINTENANCE AND SERVICES RECOMMENDED DONE THROUGH OUR SMALL BUSINESS LOCAL MECHANIC WHO BY THE WAY HAS MORE CERTIFICATES AND EXPERIENCE THAN HIS NISSAN TEAM HE ARGUED THE FACT. I SHARED HOW WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO PAYS FOR ALL OF HIS EXPENSES ON HIS OWN TO RUN HIS BUSINESS UNLIKE THE NISSAN TEAM WHO WORK UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF THE NISSAN DEALER, [XXX] AGAIN ARGUED THE FACT. WE HAVE THREE NISSAN VEHICLES ALL OF WHICH WE ARE NOW SELLING AND WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER NISSAN EVER. ITS A SHAME THAT NISSAN DOES NOT STAND BY THERE PRODUCTS. I ALSO READ WHERE THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THE TRANSMISSION OF THE FRONTIER BECAUSE OF A RADIATOR LEAK THAT MIX WITH THE TRANSMISSION, INSTEAD OF A RECALL ON THE PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING ON A ROUGH STRETCH OF I-55 SOUTH. I THEN NOTICED THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE SLOWLY SEPARATING FROM THE FRONT. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT STARTED FALLING. I COULDN'T PULL OVER AT THE TIME THIS WAS HAPPENING. I ALSO COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING FROM THE REARVIEW MIRROR. BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO EXIT, THE CONSOLE HAD BROKEN UP TO THE LAST COMPARTMENT. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT SO THAT I COULD TRY TO DISCONNECT THE WIRES. I STILL HAD 40 PLUS MILES TO DRIVE TO GET HOME. I WAS ABLE TO DISCONNECT THE WIRES AND PUT THE BROKEN CONSOLE ON THE SEAT. I CALLED A LOCAL NISSAN DEALER ONCE I GOT HOME. I WAS TOLD THE ONLY THING THAT I COULD DO WAS TO PURCHASE A NEW CONSOLE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE TV MONITOR WHICH IS STILL IN PLACE. *TR
MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE WITH THE DEALERSHIP. EVEN PERFORMED THE TRANSMISSION FLUSH A FEW MONTHS PRIOR. WENT TO BACK THE VEHICLE INTO THE GARAGE AND THERE WAS NOT REVERSE. THE TRUCK WOULD REV THE ENGINE AND SHAKE AND AT HIGH RPM THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN TO SLIGHTLY REVERSE. THE NEXT MORNING I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS BLOWN. AS WAS THE MANIFOLD (THE MANIFOLD WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY, THE TRANSMISSION WAS NO LONGER COVERED). AT A LITTLE OVER 60,000 MILES AND NOT USING THE VEHICLE TO TOW WHY DID THE REVERSE (WHICH WAS THE ONLY GEAR AFFECTED) AND THE TRANSMISSION GO OUT. THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. *TR
RIGHT REAR WATERLOO SLIPPED AND LOST TRACTION WHILE UNDER POWER. LEFT REAR WHEEL CAUGHT TRACTION AND BLEW THE SPIDER GEAR OUT OF THE REAR-END OF THE TRUCK, RENDERING THE VEHICLE DISABLED. *TR
I HAVE HAD OVER A DOZEN INSTANCES WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE BREAK PEDDLE WOULD PUSH TO THE FLOOR AND YOU WOULD HEAR A LOUD NOISE AS IF THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM WAS FAILING. YOU COULD FEEL IT IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT FRIGHTENS THE HECK OUT OF YOU. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO MY LOCAL PREMIER NISSAN IN METAIRIE, LA AND HAD THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT LOOK AT IT, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND INFORMED THEY COULD NOT HELP. I HAVE HAD MY FAMILY IN THE TRUCK AND IT HAS HAPPENED WITH THEM AND MY 16 YEAR OLD SON HAS EXPERIENCED IT AS WELL. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND I'M AFRAID ONE DAY IT WILL FAIL AND I WILL LOOSE THE ABILITY TO STOP MY VEHICLE. AFTER EACH INCIDENT, I HAVE TO TURN THE TRUCK OFF AND RESTART IT TO STOP THE NOISE FROM COMING FROM THE ABS BREAK SYSTEM. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS THAT I HAVE TO TURN MY TRUCK OFF WHILE HAVING A GREEN LIGHT, ON THE INTERSTATE AND ANY OTHER DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WISH I COULD GET SOME CLARITY AS TO FIXING THIS BREAKING ISSUE.
THE HEAT WORKS ON AND OFF. AFTER THE TRUCK IS WARMED UP, THE HEAT WILL NOT WORK. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY WHILE USING THE HEAT. *TR
THE WIRING HARNESS IN THE KING CAB VERSION FRAYS AND SETS OFF THE AIRBAG LIGHT. THERE IS A RECALL ON CERTAIN NISSAN TITANS, BUT THEY ARE BEFORE THIS MODEL YEAR. NISSAN OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING BECAUSE I READ ABOUT THIS ALL OVER THE INTERNET, YET NO ONE CAN GET THE HARNESS AS PART OF A RECALL BECAUSE IT DOESN'T COVER OUR MODEL YEAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE FAILED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH AND THE REAR AXLE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND THEY DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS. THE HEADLIGHT FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 148,000. SM.

THE DEALER THEN REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.

REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKS, SENDING OIL OVER THE BACK PLATE OF THE BRAKES, WETTING THE BRAKE PADS & DISK, CAUSING GREATER STOPPING DISTANCES, AND REAR END ACCIDENTS, OR REAR END FAILURE,CAUSING AN ACCIDENT OR ROLL OVER. THIS IS NOT A NEW PROBLEM, SINCE THE TRUCK HAS BEEN ON THE MARKET THERE HAS BEEN SEAL PROBLEMS WITH THE AXEL AND STILL NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE,DOES IT TAKE A DEATH OF SOMEONE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, NO JUST A RECALL AND BETTER DESIGN. *TR
THIS IS A 2-PART INCIDENT, THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED LAST FALL, 2010. DURING A SERVICE VISIT TO A REPUTABLE LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE SHOP, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT A LUG STUD ON THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WAS MISSING. THE STUD WAS BROKEN OFF. IT WAS REPLACED AND CONSIDERED A MYSTERIOUS BUT BENIGN INCIDENT. RETURNING FROM AN 1200 MILE ROAD TRIP LAST WEEK, I TOOK MY TITAN IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE TO THE SAME AUTOMOTIVE SHOP. THEY INFORMED ME THAT 4 OF THE 6 LUG NUTS WERE MISSING. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THEY WERE ALL BROKEN OFF ABOUT A 1/4" FROM THE AXLE WHEEL MOUNT - ON THE SAME RIGHT REAR WHEEL. THE MISSING STUDS WERE IN THE 10, 12, 2 AND 6 O'CLOCK POSITIONS - THE ONLY 2 REMAINING STUDS THAT PREVENTED A CATASTROPIC ACCIDENT INVOLVING MY SON AND ME WERE IN THE 4 AND 8 O'CLOCK POSITIONS! IT IS NOTHING SHORT OF A MIRACLE THAT WE WERE NOT INVOLVED IN A DEADLY CRASH!! ONE OF THE TWO REMAINING STUDS HOLDING THE WHEEL ON THE AXLE WAS ONE REPLACED PREVIOUSLY LAST FALL. I HAD AIRED UP THE TIRES THE NIGHT BEFORE I LEFT ON THIS TRIP AND DID NOT NOTICE ANY MISSING LUG NUTS. CLEARLY THIS WAS NOT A THEFT ATTEMPT FOR TWO REASONS: A) WHY WOULD SOMEONE WHO COULD SIMPLY UNSCREW THE LUGS NUTS INSTEAD, WITH GREAT EFFORT, TWIST THEM OFF THE WRONG DIRECTION...AND FOR WHAT PURPOSE? AND B) TWICE IN SIX MONTHS ON THE SAME WHEEL? INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALS SEVERAL OTHER INCIDENTS OF BROKEN LUG STUDS, EVERYONE SEEMING TO ATTRIBUTE IT TO AN ODD, ONE-OFF INCIDENT. IT IS MY OPTION THAT THE STUDS ARE DEFECTIVE AND A RESULT OF STRESS FATIGUE. ONE POST ON A NISSAN FORUM SITED SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY FOUND A CRACK IN ONE OF THE STUDS THAT HAD NOT YET BROKEN OFF. I STRONGLY URGE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS SITUATION - SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE AS A RESULT OF IT. I AM ALSO GOING TO SEEK TO HAVE NISSAN REPLACE ALL THE STUDS ON MY TRUCK ALTHOUGH I EXPECT THEY WILL REFUSE LEAVING IT TO ME TO DO IT AT MY OWN COST. *TT

2008 NISSAN TITAN HAS A LARGE KNOCK IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AND OR HILLS WHEN DRIVING THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP MANY TIMES UNTIL NISSAN FINALLY DECIDED TO POST A TSB. THE TSB STATES TO REPLACE THE FRONT SPRINGS ON 2008-2010 TITANS WITH SPRINGS FROM 2007 TITANS WHICH WILL LOWER THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK BY 1.5 INCHES. MY TRUCK IS NOW AN EYE SORE BY HAVING AN UNBALANCED RAKE WHEN LOOKING AT THE TRUCK FROM FRONT TO BACK AND STILL KNOCKS HEAVILY WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AND OR HILLS. NISSAN ADMITS THE ISSUE IS PRESENT BUT STATE THEY DO NOT HAVE A FIX. *TR

MY TRUCK'S FRONT SUSPENSION MAKES NOISE ESPECIALLY WHEN IT GOES OVER SPEED BUMPS. IT'S BEEN MAKING NOISE FOR MAYBE SINCE 2010 YEARS AND WE HAVE GOT IT CHECKED BUT THE SERVICE GUYS SAYS IT'S FINE. THE TIRES, ROTATIONS, SERVICE HAS ALWAYS BEEN WELL KEPT.

IN 2005 TITAN TRUCK HAD THEIR ADJUSTABLE CAMBER BOLTS REPLACED WITH NON-ADJUSTABLE BOLT. THIS CAUSED ANY TRUCK NEEDING A FRONT END ALIGNMENT TO HAVE TO HAVE THE BOLTS REPLACED. NISSAN IS NOT REPLACING THESE BOLTS ON A RECALL BUT HAVE NOTIFIED DEALERS ON A ATSB. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DELIBERATE ATTEMPT TO CAUSE MORE DEALER WORK AND CONSUMER COST BY DESIGNING A BOLT THAT THEY KNEW IN ADVANCE WOULD NOT WORK. *TR

MY VEHICLE WAS RECALLED I BELIEVE IN MAY 2010 FOR A FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT. I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED AND ALSO REQUESTED THAT THEY CHECK THE HORN AND BACKUP ALARM WHICH WERE STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND DID NOT SEEM TO WORK AT ALL TIMES. THEY CHECKED IT OVER AND SAID THEY WOULD ORDER PARTS AND I WOULD NEED ANOTHER APPOINTMENT. WHEN I BROUGHT IT BACK THEY REPLACED A HORN RELAY BUT NOTHING ELSE. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE FUEL UNIT AND WOULD CALL ME WHEN IT CAME IN. HE SAID THE BACKUP ALARM SEEMED FINE. AFTER ABOUT A MONTH I CALLED AND ASKED IF THEY HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT ME, AND WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE SENDING UNITS COME FROM JAPAN AND ARE MADE AS ORDERED SO IT COULD TAKE A WHILE. I THOUGHT THIS WAS STRANGE SINCE UNDER THE RECALL THEY SHOULD BE STOCKING THE PART BUT I ACCEPTED HIS EXPLANATION. I MAY HAVE CALLED ONE MORE TIME TO CHECK THE STATUS BUT NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THE DEALER. THE GAUGE SEEMED TO BE WORKING SO I THOUGHT I WOULD LIVE WITH IT. IN JANUARY OF 2013 MY TRUCK RAN OUT OF GAS EVEN THOUGH THE GAUGE SHOWED I WAS OVER ONE QUARTER FULL. I NOTIFIED NISSAN OF THIS INCIDENT AND WAS CONTACTED VERY QUICKLY. THE REPRESENTATIVE I SPOKE WITH SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED AND I SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER. I INFORMED HIM THAT I HAD MORE THAN ONCE AND THE ISSUE WAS NEVER CORRECTED SO I DID NOT FEEL I COULD GO THERE AND REQUESTED AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME IT HAD TO BE REPLACE BY AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE PROVIDER BUT DID OFFER TO HAVE ANOTHER DEALER TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE THE SERVICE. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND WAS THEN TOLD THE ORIGINAL DEALER WAS GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE. I HAVE NEVER HEARD BACK FROM EITHER OF THEM. DO I HAVE A RIGHT TO GET THIS RECALL ISSUE AND THE WARRANTY ISSUE RESOLVED? *TR

THE LEFT REAR AXLE SEAL ON MY 2008 NISSAN TITAN BEGAN LEAKING WITH OUT ME KNOWING IT WAS HAPPENING. THE GREASE WAS THROWN ONTO THE LEFT REAR TIRE OVER AN UNDETERMINED PERIOD OF TIME. THE GREASE CAUSED THE RUBBER IN THE TIRE TO SOFTEN AND CAUSED THE TIRE TO BLOW OUT WHILE I WAS TRAVELING @ 65 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. WHEN THE BLOW OUT OCCURRED PIECES OF THE TIRE BEAT THE FENDER OF THE TRUCK CAUSING $1500 IN BODY DAMAGE. I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE AXLE SEAL REPLACED AT A COST $400. FROM WHAT I NOW UNDERSTAND REAR AXLE SEAL FAILURE IS VERY COMMON ON THE TITAN TRUCKS YET THERE HAVE BEEN NO RE-CALLS AND/OR NO ACTION BY THE NHTSA TO DEMAND THIS PROBLEM BE CORRECTED. WITH OUT THIS ISSUE BEING PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME COULD EASILY HAPPEN TO OTHERS AND HAVE A MORE NEGATIVE OUTCOME THAN I DID. OF COURSE NISSAN REFUSED TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE DAMAGE EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THIS IS AND HAS BEEN AN ON GOING DEFECT IN THESE VEHICLES. *TR
