CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON DUE TO ERROR CODE P0463 (FUEL LEVEL SENSOR MALFUNCTION). BASED ON MY RESEARCH THIS HAPPENS TO AN UNUSUALLY HIGH NUMBER OF SECOND GENERATION NISSAN XTERRA OWNERS. *TR
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN 2007 AND HAVE HAD IT REGULARLY MAINTAINED SINCE THIS TIME. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH, WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. I WAS IN FAIRLY HEAVY TRAFFIC AND HAD DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS I STRUGGLED TO PULL IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD IT TOWED INTO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE RADIATOR HAD CRACKED AND COOLANT HAD WORKED IT'S WAY INTO THE TRANSMISSION. I AM BEING TOLD THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION WHICH WILL COST ME $5500 IN PARTS AND LABOR. IN ADDITION TO THIS, TRANSMISSIONS FOR THIS VEHICLE ARE ON BACKORDER AND I MUST WAIT EVEN LONGER FOR THE REPAIRS. OF COURSE, I HAVE 95,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND THAT MEANS I AM OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY COVERAGE. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT IS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS LIKELY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND SERIOUSLY PUTS OWNERS AT RISK OF INJURY OR EVEN DEATH. I WISH NISSAN WOULD BE MORE ACCOMMODATING IN REIMBURSING THE REPAIRS AND WARNING OWNERS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE. *TR
THE MOLDED FUEL TANK SHELL DEFORMED CAUSING THE FUEL SENDER FLOAT ARM TO CONTACT AN EMBOSSMENT MOLDED INTO THE TANK SHELL CAUSING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE HAS FUEL WHEN THE TANK IS EMPTY.
I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA AND DRIVING MY CAR IT STARTED DRIVING LIKE IN NEUTRAL SO I HAD MY CAR TOWED AND THE SHOP TOLD ME THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE RADIATOR HOSE THAT CAUSED FLUID TO GO INTO TRANSMISSION AND RUINED IT. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALER AND THEY SAID YES THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS AND HAD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 80,000 MILES MY CAR HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT SO IT WOULDN'T BE COVERED. I FELT SINCE THEY CLEARLY HAD A DESIGN FLAW IN THE RADIATOR HOSE CONNECTION THAT COULD CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO GIVE OUT AND BE DANGEROUS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ISSUE. IT SHOULDN'T MATTER HOW MANY MILES YOU HAVE ON THE CAR IT WAS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN BY NISSAN AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND YOU WILL FIND MANY MANY PAGES OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A CAR COMPANY COULD BE AWARE OF A DESIGN FLAW THAT IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR THAN NOT BUT NOT STAND BEHIND THE VEHICLE AND TAKE CARE OF IT REGARDLESS THE MILES. IT IS OVER $5,000 TO FIX AND IT IS WRONG FOR NISSAN NOT TO HAVE RECALLED THIS. WHY WHEN IT IS REPAIRED DOES THE NEW RADIATOR HAVE A DIFFERENT HOSE CONNECTION?? BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT WAS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN FIRST TIME AROUND. JUST WRONG, I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN AGAIN. *KB
WHEN I DRIVE MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA AND IT HITS AROUND 2000RPMS, OR SOMETIMES AROUND 60 MPH IT STARTS TO VIBRATE. IT FEELS LIKE IT IS COMING FROM THE REAR BUT NOT SURE. IF I LET OFF THE GAS A SECOND IT WILL GO AWAY. IT DOESN'T DO IT ALL THE TIME BUT OFTEN. I HAVE HAD THE TIRES CHECKED AND BALANCED. IT FEELS LIKE I AM DRIVING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE FAILED TO PROPERLY DISPLAY THE CORRECT FUEL LEVEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: AUXILIARY TANK). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD THE UNIT REPLACED ONCE UNDER WARRANTY AND AGAIN UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM: GASOLINE STORAGE AUXILIARY TANK) BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT CREATE A PROPER RECALL REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,585 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
DEFECTIVE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, NISSAN DOES COVER THIS UNDER WARRANTY BUT ONLY UP TO A 70,000 MILAGE LIMIT. IF PART IS DEFECTIVE IT SHOULD BE REPLACED REGARDLESS OF MILES. I CONTACTED NISSAN DIRECTLY AND WAS TOLD SORRY, OVER MILEAGE CANNOT HELP. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD ENDANGER OCCUPANTS WITH INACCURATE FUEL AMOUNTS, I.E. UN-EXPECTANTLY RUN OUT OF FUEL IN THE MIDDLE NO-WHERE OR ON THE INTERSTATE. DOES IT BECOME LESS SAFE WITH MORE MILES, I WOULD THINK NOT. NISSAN SHOULD BE MADE TO MAKE THE REPAIRS REGARDLESS OF MILES. *TR
MY 2006 NISSAN X-TERRA TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR FAILED RADIATOR COOLING LINES FOR TRANSMISSION FAILED AND LEAKED INTO TRANSMISSION CAUSING COMPLETE FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION.$4,000 TO REPAIR. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA AND NOTICED IT WAS DRIVING ROUGH OFF AND ON. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AS THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ECM RELAY AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE ROUGH DRIVING. I WAS CALLED AND ADVISED THAT MY RADIATOR BROKE WHICH CAUSED FLUID TO LEAK INTO MY TRANSMISSION AND WOULD NEED TO REPLACE BOTH. I WAS QUOTED $9200.00 WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE. I USE MY TRUCK STRICTLY FOR COMMUTING, DON'T EVEN USE 4WD. THE TRUCK ISN'T EVEN PAID OFF YET. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS, YET AS I DO RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, YET NISSAN IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. I CALLED AAMCO AND WAS ADVISED IT WOULD COST $2800-3200 FOR THEM TO FIX AND THAT THEY SEE THIS WITH NISSANS WAY TOO FREQUENTLY. MY PERSONAL MECHANIC ADVISED HE CAN FIX IT FOR AROUND THAT SAME PRICE AS WELL. I DEPEND ON THIS VEHICLE FOR GETTING TO WORK AND SAFELY GETTING MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL. WHAT A LET DOWN FOR SUCH AN EXPENSIVE PURCHASE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 XTERRA THAT THE RADIATOR LEAKED INTO MY TRANSMISSION. THE ONLY SOLUTION FROM THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP WAS TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION ($5500), REBUILD OR TRADE VEHICLES. APPARENTLY THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF BUT WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT. THEY SHOULD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS SO THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE POSSIBLY BEEN AVOIDED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHEN HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILIARY TANK). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,000. UPDATED 07/08/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS RUBBING SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. AT DIAGNOSTIC TEST REVEALED A COMPONENT IN THE FUEL SYSTEM NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONSUMER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. UPDATED 07/20/11*JB
2006 NISSAN XTERRA VIN# [XXX]. MY COMPLAINT IS PROBABLY THE MOST COMMON WITH THE XTERRA. THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT.WHEN I REFUEL VEHICLE THE GAS GAUGE NEEDLE DOES NOT MOVE TO THE FULL LINE. INSTEAD IT STAYS ON EMPTY ONLY AFTER DRIVING APPROX 30 TO 40 MILES WILL THE NEEDLE MOVE BACK UP TO THE FULL LINE BUT ALSO AT THE SAME TIME THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COMES ON. THAT WILL STAY ON FOR APPROX 3 TRIPS OF USING VEHICLE BEFORE IT GOES BACK OFF. I WAS TOLD 2006 XTERRAS WERE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL HOWEVER MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT.MAKES NO SENSE WHY SOME 2006"S ARE COVERED AND OTHERS ARE NOT. TO ME YOU EITHER BOUGHT A 2006 XTERRA OR YOU DIDNT.I BOUGHT A NISSAN BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WOULDN'T HAVE THESE PROBLEMS I THOUGHT THAT WAS WITH NON FOREIGN VEHICLES , BOY WAS I WRONG. NISSAN STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE WHICH SO MANY CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING INSTEAD OF TURNING THE CHEEK. ENGINE LIGHT ACTIVATION AND FUEL LEVEL DISCREPANCY. ENGINE CODE PO463 (FUEL LEVEL SENSOR A HIGH INPUT). TOLD BY NISSAN THAT THIS INDIVIDUAL VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH IT IS REPORTED THAT 80, 689 VEHICLES HAVE BEEN AFFECTED. *TR
MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH ALL OF A SUDDEN, TO THE POINT I THOUGHT I HIT SOMETHING OR WAS DRAGGING A BRANCH, I STOP TO FIND NOTHING AND KEPT ON DRIVING, AND THE CART DID IT AGAIN, SO SCARED OF GOING ANY FASTER AND LOOSING CONTROL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW CRACKED RADIATORS ARE CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND MIX WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. ONCE THE COOLANT (ANTIFREEZE) IS IN THE TRANSMISSION IT KILLS THE VALVES, SEALS AND TORQUE CONVERTER AND EVENTUALLY RENDERS THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION USELESS. IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON '05-'06 XTERRA. BUT I WAS NEVER INFORMED NOR OTHER XTERRA OWNERS. TO CORRECT THIS I HAVE TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR & TRANSMISSION AT AN OUTRAGEOUS PRICE. ALTHOUGH NISSAN HASN'T CONDUCTED A RECALL OR ACKNOWLEDGER THERE'S A PROBLEM, THEY DID EXTEND THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY FROM 60K TO 80K. MY VEHICLE HAS 94K MILES, SO I'M HOPING MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERS IT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, IMAGINE DRIVING AT 60MPH AND LOOSING CONTROL DUE TO STRONG SHAKING. I JUST CANT BELIEVE WITH THE OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING THEY HAVEN'T STARTED A RECALL. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSITANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
I REALLY DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN. MY TRUCK WOULD NOT START 8/26/13. I LEARNED THAT THE DREADED RADIATOR COOLANT LEAK HAD FINALLY DESTROYED MY TRANSMISSION COMPUTER SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION. I FIRST LEARNED THAT THIS COULD BECOME A PROBLEM IN FEBRUARY OF 2011 WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS AT ABOUT 96,300 MILES. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A NUMBER TO CALL, I DID AND WAS TOLD AT THAT TIME THAT I COULD PAY $6000 OUT OF POCKET AND POSSIBLY BE REIMBURSED LATER AS MY VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT IN THE CURRENT LIST OF VEHICLES BEING OFFERED THE "SPECIAL WARRANTY COVERAGE". I WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER AND TOLD I WOULD BE MAILED INFORMATION ABOUT ALL FUTURE MATTERS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I DID NOT HAVE $6000 THEN, I DO NOT HAVE $3000 NOW. THAT IS THE AMOUNT OF THE DEDUCTIBLE THE NISSAN DEALER SAYS I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING IF NISSAN HONORS THE TIME I INITIALLY REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THEM. I NEED SOME HELP. MY HUSBAND IS ACTIVE DUTY NAVY AND I KEPT THIS VEHICLE SERVICED AND DID EVERYTHING I WAS SUPPOSED TO DO TO MAKE SURE THIS VEHICLE STAYED IN GREAT CONDITION AND NOW I HAVE A VEHICLE THAT IS NO LONGER WORKING. FIRST SYMPTOMS: OCCASIONALLY WHEN TURNING, STEERING BECOMES VERY TIGHT, ALMOST LIKE LOOSING THE POWER STEERING. LATER SYMPTOMS: THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO WOBBLE, LEFT-RIGHT, UP-DOWN, BECOMING MORE AND MORE LOOSE. THE DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN SAID THAT THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT IS BROKEN AND MUST BE REPLACED. PARTS REPLACED : 48811-EA26B COLUMN, AND 48071-EA30A - COUPLING. I HAVE SEEN MANY REPORTS ON FORUMS ABOUT THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TPMS LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONSTANTLY AND THE WHEELS FELT LOOSE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE MALFUNCTIONED AND FAILED TO DISPLAY THE CORRECT FUEL LEVEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE LIGHT WAS RESET, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
2006 NISSAN XTERRA RECALL ID FROM NHTSA: 10V075000 THEY SAID IT DOESN'T APPLY TO MY CAR!? IT'S ON A RECALL LIST FOR MY MODEL BUT THEY SAID MY VIN IS NOT IN THERE SYSTEM? WTH IS GOING ON WITH NISSAN AND MY VIN NOT BEING IN THEIR SYSTEM FOR A RECALL. ISSUE CAME UP ENGINE LIGHT ON WITH CODE P0463, WHICH IS WHAT THE RECALL IS FOR. *TR
NISSAN XTERRA 2006, BOTH FRONT CATS HAVE FAILED. DEALER SAID DUE TO ETHANOL A COMMON PROBLEM, COST AROUND $2300. FOUND CATS AND A MECHANIC FOR $1200. AFTER 3 WEEKS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT RETURNED. I AM NOW GETTING A P0643. DEALER PASSPORT NISSAN QUOTED AROUND $700 TO FIX PLUS ANOTHER $350 FOR BELT REPLACEMENT. NONE OF THE OTHER RECALLS AM ELIGIBLE FOR DUE TO BEING OUT OF WARRANTY. ALSO HAD TO REPLACE FRONT AND REAR U-JOINTS WITHIN A YEAR OF EACH. *TR
OUR FUEL SENSORY WENT OUT ON OUR NISSAN XTERRA SHORTLY BEFORE WE REACHED 100000 MILES. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND SENT A LETTER OUT FOR A WARRANTY ONLY. HOWEVER, THE WARRANTY INCLUDED 2006 NISSAN XTERRAS WITH LESS THAN 72000 MILES ON THEM. WHEN I DID RESEARCH I FOUND THAT OVER 80000 2006 NISSAN XTERRAS WERE AFFECTED BY THIS. I CONTACTED NISSAN USA TO HAVE THEM RESOLVE THE ISSUE OF THE FUEL TANK SENSOR AND INDICATED I WOULD LIKE THE DEFECT FIXED. THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT AND INDICATED IT WOULD COST ME A LITTLE OVER $400 TO FIX. I ASKED THEM FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SINCE I DO NOT HAVE THIS TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR ON TOP OF MY $433 A MONTH A CAR PAYMENT. I RECENTLY HAD A BABY AND NEVER KNOW WHEN MY CAR IS EMPTY. THE SENSOR NO LONGER READS FUEL LEVELS AND IS CONSTANTLY SHOWING EMPTY. I WAS UP FOR EMISSIONS TESTING THIS YEAR AND CAN NOT PASS EMISSIONS UNTIL THE SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED. I BELIEVE SINCE THIS IS SUCH A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE THAT NISSAN SHOULD RECALL THE PART. JUST THIS WEEK MY VEHICLE RAN OUT OF GAS ACCORDING TO MY SPEEDOMETER I HAD 100 MILES LEFT ON THE TANK IT MISREAD AND I WAS STUCK WITH MY SCREAMING 5 MONTH OLD ON THE SIDE ON THE ROAD AT NIGHT WAITING FOR AAA TO ARRIVE . THIS WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY NISSAN AND NOT JUST SHOVED TO THE SIDE. WAY TO MANY VEHICLES ARE AFFECTED FOR THIS TO REMAIN A WARRANTY ISSUE ONLY!!!!! TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 86,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HER THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE FAILURE, BUT IT HAD EXPIRED AT 72,000 MILES. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 107,600.

NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE RELEASED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, AND CHANGED PART NUMBERS BUT THEY HAVE NOT RELEASED A RECALL SO ALL DEALERSHIPS REFUSE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR FREE. FURTHERMORE DEALERS ARE NOT WARNING THEIR CUSTOMERS OF THIS ISSUE. LAST MONDAY WHEN GOING TO WORK, IT WAS RAINING AND WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE FREEWAY AND WAS TRYING TO REDUCE MY SPEED THRE TRUCK SKID AND TURN TO THE LEFT. MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA STARTED SHAKING WHEN DRIVING AT AROUND 60MPH. IT WOULD DO THIS FOR 3-5 SECONDS AS I SPED UP OR SLOWED DOWN. I WAS TOLD BY THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS A LEAK BETWEEN MY RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT BOTH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FUEL GAUGE SAID THERE WAS STILL A QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS REMAINING. WHEN I GOT TO AUTO ZONE, THE COMPUTER THREW THE CODE P0463, WHICH INDICATES A FAULTY FUEL GAUGE. I WENT ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT. FOR THIS REASON, I REQUEST THAT YOU ADD THIS TO THE LIST OF RECALLED PARTS ON THIS VEHICLE. A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN PATHFINDER/XTERRA/FRONTIERS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS, IS THE RADIATOR FAILING AND LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION VIA A PORTION OF THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM THAT PASSES THROUGH THE RADIATOR. THIS PROBLEM IS MOST COMMON WITH 2005 TO 2008 MODEL NISSANS. THE FIRST SIGN OF THIS FAILURE IS A SLIGHT VIBRATION AT 40-50 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SHIFTS FROM 4TH TO OVERDRIVE (5TH) GEAR. AT THIS POINT THE DAMAGE, APPARENTLY, HAS BEEN DONE. IN WORST CASE SITUATIONS THE VEHICLES CAN FALL INTO "SAFE MODE" CAUSING THE VEHICLE'S OPERATOR TO LOSE CONTROL DUE TO UNDESIRED TRANSMISSION OPERATION. BY VISITING MANY NISSAN OWNER FORUMS AND INTERNET SEARCH ENGINES, THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM FOR NISSAN OWNERS. IT HAS BEEN MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE THAT NISSAN HAS MADE NO OFFER OF ASSISTANCE FOR MOST CUSTOMERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! WHY WAIT FOR ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE DEATHS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PROBLEM LIES IN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. COST OF REPAIR RANGES FROM $300-600." *TR
VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN ON THE FREEWAY, TOOK ALMOST FULL POWER TO MAINTAIN 20 MPH SPEED.BURNING SMELL IN CABIN ACCOMPANIED THE LOSS OF POWER. VEHICLE TOWED TO ORIGINAL DEALER. AFTER A DAY, HE STATED IT WAS THE MANUAL CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. VEHICLE HAS 27661 ORIGINAL MILES, THIS IS THE SECOND MANUAL TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH FAILURE SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2007. FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER ONLY 7954 MILES. FIRST TIME, THE DEALER SAID HE DIDN'T HAVE TO COVER REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY ( "WEAR" PARTS), BUT DID IT ANYWAY BECAUSE THEY BELIEVED THERE WERE NO "DRIVER" ISSUES, IE., PART FAILURE, NOT DRIVER MIS-USE. AS AN ASIDE, MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES FOR 40 YEARS APIECE, AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. THIS TIME, TWO MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY, DEALER CLAIMED NISSAN WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. $2100 LATER, I DROVE OFF THE LOT WITH A CLUTCH PEDAL VERY MUCH SOFTER THAN WHEN IT WAS NEW. I TEST DROVE IT WITH THE REPAIRING MECHANIC, HE SAID HE HAD ADJUSTED THE PEDAL PLAY TO FACTORY SPEC, AND THE CLUTCHES SHOULD LAST 60-70000 MILES (SEEMS LOW TO ME-MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS ARE USUALLY BULLET-PROOF WITH OTHER MANUFACTURES ). MECHANIC REPLACED FLYWHEEL, CLUTCH DISC, COVER ASSEMBLY, BEARING RELEASE AND FIRST SHAFT BUSHING. AWAITING RESPONSE TO APPEAL FOR COST COVERAGE FROM NISSAN. MULTIPLE CLUTCH FAILURES REPORTED ON THE INTERNET ( EDMUNDS.COM, FACEBOOK ) FOR SAME YEAR/MAKE.
