TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO INDEPENDENTLY DECELERATE UNTIL REACHING 20 MPH AND WOULD NOT TRAVEL OVER THE SPEED. THERE WAS ALSO A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLUTCH WAS BURNED OUT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DISC ASSEMBLY, FLY WHEEL AND CLUTCH. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,661 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,701.

I FILL MY GAS TANK, THE GAUGE FALLS TO THE BOTTOM AND THE LIGHT COMES ON, THEN SHORTLY THE CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT COMES ON IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS A RECALL BUT ONLY TO A RANGE OF VIN'S AND UNFORTUNATELY MY CAR IS NOT IN THIS RANGE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER IS 10V075000. THE SYMPTOMS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS DESCRIBED IN THIS CAMP. ID NUMBER. *TR

TWO WEEKS AFTER NISSAN DEALER DID A 60K SERVICE IN MY 2006 XTERRA THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT POPPED UP WHILE DRIVING AND MY GAS GAUGE WENT FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND BACK IN RAPID SUCCESSION WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING MAJOR DISTRACTION. THE ODB CODE FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS P0463. *TR
1. I FILLED MY GAS TANK, THEN AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. 2. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY TANK READS AS EMPTY AND THE SES LIGHT IS ON, EVEN THOUGH A FULL TANK. 3. NISSAN HAS A RECALL ON MY TYPE AND YEAR OF VEHICLE FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM (FUEL SYSTEM). BUT MY VIN DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL; EVEN THOUGH THE EXACT YEAR AND TYPE IS THE SAME AS THE RECALL. I HAD TO HAVE THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT HAD FAILED. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V075000- FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: AUXILLARY TANK) THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
2006 NISSAN XTERRA FUEL GAUGE MISREADS CURRENT AMOUNT OF FUEL IN TANK (I CURRENTLY HAVE A FULL TANK AND IT READS EMPTY ON THE GAUGE) THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERY TIME I FILLED MY TANK, WHICH IS OFTEN BECAUSE I COMMUTE OVER 100 MILES A DAY. I HAVE CALLED NISSAN BECAUSE THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL FOR THE FUEL SENDING UNIT, WHICH THEY ADMIT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEMS, HOWEVER MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA IS NOT IN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL MEANT FOR 2006 XTERRAS, CAUSING ME TO PAY FOR THE UNIT OUT OF MY OWN POCKET, WHICH IS ROUGHLY $400. I SEE THIS AS A PROBLEM SINCE I CANNOT HAVE AN ACCURATE READING ON MY FUEL GAUGE, IT MAY CAUSE MY VEHICLE TO STALL IN TRAFFIC. THERE ARE MANY OTHER NISSANS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR
2006 NISSAN XTERRA FUEL SENDING UNIT DEFECTIVE AND WILL NOT BE REPLACED BY NISSAN . PUMP WORKS FINE BUT FUEL GAUGE GOES FROM FULL TO EMPTY WHEN TANK IS FULL . MY DAUGHTER RAN OUT OF GAS ON HIGHWAY AT 11PM ONE NIGHT. *TR
THE FUEL GAUGE IS NOT ACCURATE AFTER FILLING THE TANK. IT GRADUALLY MOVES UP TO THE PROPER AMOUNT AFTER A LONG TIME. UP TO 70 MILES TILL IT REGISTERS CORRECTLY. *TR
WHEN FUEL GAUGE REACHES HALF A TANK THEN THE NEEDLE GOES ALL THE WAY DOWN INDICATING THERE IS NOT GAS AND THE LIGHT GOES ON. THE DTE GOES FROM COUPLE OF HUNDRED MILES LEFT TO ZERO. IT HAPPEN EVERYTIME THE NEEDLE REACHES HALF A TANK. *TR
THE STEERING COLUMN BEARING FAILED IN A 2006 XTERRA, CAUSING BINDING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME WOBBLY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER RECOGNIZED AND IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY FROM MY DESCRIPTION, SUGGESTING THE PROBLEM IS NOT RARE. *TR
THE AIRBAG DEACTIVATOR SENSOR, LOCATED INSIDE THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT OF OUR NISSAN XTERRA LEAKED THE FLUID INSIDE THE CAR. OUR FIRST INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WAS A BURNING FEELING IN THE THROAT, NOSE AND EYES. THE COINS IN THE CAR TURNED GREEN. WE DISCOVERED THE LEAK AND REMOVED THE SEAT FROM THE CAR. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS IN THE FLUID FILLED SENSOR AND MADE NO ATTEMPT TO FIND OUT. OUR INSURANCE COMPANY HAS BEEN TRYING FOR 2 WEEKS TO GET AN ANSWER FROM NISSAN ON THIS PRODUCT WITH NO RESULTS. THE REPAIR SHOP HAS NEVER SEEN THIS ISSUE AND HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT IS IN THE SENSOR BAG. THE INSIDE OF THE CAR HAS CORRODED, RUSTING ALL METAL INSIDE THE CAR. THIS DAMAGE IS CONTINUING SINCE THE SEAT WAS REMOVED DESTROYING ALL METAL INSIDE THE CAR. THE CAR HAS BEEN DEEMED A WRITE OFF BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. EVERYONE WITH EXPOSURE TO THIS FLUID THAT CREATED A GAS IN THE CAR, HAS HAD AN ONGOING THROAT BURNING AND HEADACHES. WE HAVE A CONTACT PERSON AT NISSAN AMERICA BUT THEY HAVE NOT CONTACTED US WITH ANY INFORMATION ON THE PRODUCT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE GRADUALLY LOST POWER. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MERGE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
FUEL GAUGE SHOWING WRONG AMOUNT OF GAS LEVEL DUE TO FAULTY/DEFECTIVE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT IN 2006 NISSAN XTERRAS. NISSAN HAS SENT OUT A RECALL FOR 2006 XTERRAS, BUT ONLY FOR CERTAIN VEHICLES WITHIN A CERTAIN MANUFACTURE DATE WITHIN THAT YEAR. THE MANUFACTURE DATES SHOULD BE EXTENDED SINCE IT SEEMS MANY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, SHOWING THAT NISSAN SHOULD TAKE THE BLAME ON PUTTING A DEFECTIVE PART IN THEIR VEHICLES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE FUEL SENSOR FAILED AND DOES NOT GIVE AN ACCURATE MEASURE OF THE FUEL THAT IS IN THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHERE THEY REPLACED THE FUEL SENSOR AT HIS EXPENSE FOR $375. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE REPAIR SINCE THE VIN WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. 2006 NISSAN XTERRA FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYS INCORRECT READINGS, I HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THERE IS A RECALL BUT MY VEHICLE IS NOT ON THE LIST. I HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER BUT THEY CLAIM NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. EXCEPT WHEN I DRIVE VEHICLE GAS GAUGE GOES FROM QUARTER TANK TO EMPTY THEN BACK TO QUARTER TANK. *TR
2006 NISSAN XTERRA - SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COMES ON. CHECKED THE LIGHT AT AUTO ZONE AND THE CODE IS PO463 "FUEL LEVEL SENSOR A CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT". WILL COST AROUND $500 TO FIX - SAY IT'S A BAD SENSOR. GAS GAUGE ISN'T CORRECT, GOES TO ZERO AND BOUNCES BACK UP OVER 50 OR SO MILES. HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND MANY OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE IN THEIR 2006 XTERRAS. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA WITH 70K MILES ON IT. MY GAS TANK WAS UNDER 1/4 OF A TANK. I FILLED UP AND WHEN I STARTED MY TRUCK THE NEXT DAY THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TIGHTENED MY GAS CAP AND THE LIGHT STILL REMAINS. MY GAS TANK HAD ALSO SHOWED THAT I HAD AN EMPTY TANK. IT TOOK A DAY OR SO OF DRIVING UNTIL THE GAUGE SHOWED THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF GAS. *TR

THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC OF THE FAILURE AND FOUND IT TO BE THE EXACT SAME FAILURE AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: AUXILIARY TANK). HOWEVER, THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACTS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THE CONTACT WOULD BE LIABLE FOR ANY REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND HE WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 84,000.
1: 2006 NISSAN XTERRA STARTED HAVING SHIFTING PROBLEMS AND STARTED LEAKING MILKY RAINBOW COLORED OIL. 2: HAPPENS IN FIRST GEAR ALL THE TIME NOW. TOOK IT IN TO SHOP WHEN IT STARTED. 3: REPAIR SHOP SAID IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION BECAUSE RADIATOR HAS LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION. $7000. GOT A QUOTE FOR $5700 AND WILL BE TAKING IT THERE TOMORROW. *TR
JUNE 2, 2009 I HAD TO HAVE MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA TO VICTORY NISSAN IN MECHANICSVILLE, VA AFTER BEING TOLD BY NISSAN'S RECALL REPRESENTATIVE THAT MY PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CLASSIFIED AS A RECALL. MY FUEL-LINE BURST AND SPEWED GAS IN MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IT COST ME $310.58 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. JUNE 7, 2010 THE FUELINE BURST IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE, THIS TIME SPRAYING ME IN THE FACE WITH GASOLINE WHEN I RAISED THE HOOD-LUCKILY I WAS WEARING EYEGLASSES. AGAIN I WAS TOLD BY NISSAN RECALL THAT THERE ISN'T A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE REASON ESCAPES ME AS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BOTH WITH POTENTIAL FIRE AND PHYSICAL INJURY. NOBODY HAS BEEN HURT SO FAR WITH THIS ISSUE. IN A SEPARATE INCIDENT, MY FUEL GAUGE THAT IS A KNOWN HAZARD BEGAN ACTING ERRATICALLY A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, AND I WAS TOLD THAT XTERRAS WITH MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER DO NOT FALL UNDER THE CURRENT RECALL THAT NISSAN HAS ON THIS ISSUE. THEIR REASON FOR THE RECALL IS THAT THE FUEL GAUGE COULD READ AT 1/4 FULL BUT BE EMPTY AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS IN TRAFFIC AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I GUESS MY CAR WILL NOT RUN OUT OF GAS AND CAUSE CRASHES ACCORDING TO NISSAN, RIGHT? *TR

THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILIARY TANK) HOWEVER, THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK IT TAKES ABOUT 20 MILES OF DRIVING FOR THE GAUGE TO GO ALL THE WAY TO FULL (NOT INSTANTLY AS IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO). IF THE CAR IS DRIVEN FOR MORE THAN 300 MILES, AND THE TANK IS MAINTAINED ABOVE 1/4 TANK FULL THE CE LIGHT GOES OFF. AS SOON AS LEVEL DROPS BELOW 1/4 THE CE LIGHT COMES BACK ON. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR RECALL 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: AUXILLARY TANK). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT WAS REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE FUEL GAUGE SHUT DOWN SUDDENLY ON MAY 12, 2010 AND WOULD NOT GIVE AN ACCURATE READING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE ANOTHER FUEL SENDING UNIT WAS INSTALLED. THE FAILURE STILL OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AGAIN AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,500. HE TOOK THE VEHILCE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED, THE FUEL GAUGE BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION.HE HAD NOT PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL GAUGE BEFORE TAKING IT IN FOR THE RECALL. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE FUEL GAUGE STILL DID NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED TO DEAL WITH THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN HE CONFRONTED THE DEALER, HE WAS TOLD THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY WOULD NOTIFY HIM WHEN HE COULD TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK IN TO THE DEALER. HE HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 90,000. UPDATED 10/27/10. *LJ

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT ABNORMALLY, VIOLENT VIBRATIONS. THE VIBRATIONS WERE MORE INTENSE WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT INTO THIRD GEAR. THE CONTACT FURTHER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING INTO THE COOLANT SYSTEM AND COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMMON IN HIS MODEL VEHICLE YET THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 73,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE ADDING GASOLINE TO THE FUEL TANK, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD NOT INDICATE THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF GASOLINE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) I OWN A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. I TOOK IT TO DEALER IN RESPONSE TO 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' LIGHT. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE "FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT INSIDE THE THE FUEL TANK". IN RESEARCHING THE NHTSA SITE I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM FOR 2006 THROUGH 2008 NISSAN XTERRAS. UNFORTUNATELY MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED WITHIN THIS CAMPAIGN. I WOULD SUBMIT THAT IT IS ONLY FAIR THAT MY VEHICLE BE INCLUDED CONSIDERING THE NATURE OF THE MALFUNCTION. WE HAVE A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA THAT WE JUST BOUGHT USED AND THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IS BAD AND THERE IS A RECALL IN YOUR MARCH 2010 FOR THIS VEHICLE. I RAN THE VIN NUMBER AND THAT PARTICULAR VIN NUMBER DOESN'T SHOW A RECALL. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AND THE HAD ME DO A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK WITH OUR LOCAL DEALER AND HE CONFIRMS IT IS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. THE GAUGE JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN SHOWS 1/4 TANK WHICH CAN BE DECEIVING AND DANGEROUS IF IT RUNS OUT OF GAS. THEY NISSAN ONLY OFFERED TO SPLIT COST OF THE REPAIR BUT I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS OF THIS SAME VEHICLE UNDER RECALL BUT NOT MINE FOR THE VERY SAME PROBLEM. THEY POINT TO THE FACT THAT THE NTBS HAS NOT RECALLED THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. CAN YOU HELP THIS SHOULD BE COVERED. *TR

AS A RESULT, SHE WAS UNABLE TO READ NEITHER THE SPEED NOR THE LEVEL OF FUEL IN HER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 60, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE. AFTER NEW TIRES, ROTATION OF THE TIRES, NEW U-JOINTS, IT STILL SHAKES VERY BAD. NOW I AM TOLD IT IS THE "DRIVE SHAFT" THAT IS "WARPED" WHICH IS GOING TO COST ANOTHER $800. THE GARAGE HAS REMOVED THE DRIVE SHAFT AND NOW IT DOES NOT SHAKE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS FULL THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED THAT THE GASOLINE TANK WAS EMPTY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE LOCAL MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 10V075000, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: AUXILIARY TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. REPORT NUMBER 6858003 WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,700.

VEHICLE FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. WHEN TESTED WITH A DIAGNOSTIC READER THE CODE P0463 CAME UP INDICATING A FUEL LEVEL SENSOR MALFUNCTION. THAT MEANT AT LEAST A $600 REPAIR FROM THE NISSAN DEALER FOR WHAT APPARENTLY IS A COMMON MALFUNCTION DUE TO A DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP MODULE ASSEMBLY. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ CONCERNING THIS SUBJECT IT IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF NISSAN, YET THE COMPANY DISMISSES ANY COMPLAINT AS INVALID. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR PREVIOUS GENERATIONS OF PATHFINDER VEHICLES FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. *TR
MY FUEL GAUGE IS FAULTY. THE GAS GAUGE IS SHOWING MORE GAS THAN THERE IS IN THE TANK, THEN I WON'T "REFILL" WHEN THE CAR IS FILLED UP. THE TRUCK ALSO HAS A SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON WITH THE CODE P0463 WHICH IS RELATED TO THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REPEATEDLY LIGHTS UP. WHEN I READ THE ERROR CODE IT IS P0463, WHICH INDICATES A MALFUNCTIONING FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. I WILL RESET THE LIGHT AND IT WILL ILLUMINATE ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. THERE WAS NO SPECIFIC REASON FOR FAILURE OTHER THAN THE PART IS DEFECTIVE. I WOULD NOT WRITE CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT IT HAS BECOME SO COMMON THAT THERE ARE INTERNET BLOGS DEDICATED TO THE ISSUE. NISSAN HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE ON OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES LIKE THE MURANO IN THE SAME YEAR OF PRODUCTION. THIS DEFECTIVE PART NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. PEOPLE RELY ON THEIR FUEL GAUGES TO DETERMINE IF THEY HAVE ENOUGH GAS TO MAKE IT TO THEIR DESTINATION AND THIS COULD POSSIBLY LEAVE A MOTORIST STRANDED IN A DANGEROUS OR INHOSPITABLE SITUATION. *TR

I CONTACTED NISSAN, BUT THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL AND THAT THEY CANNOT REIMBURSE ME FOR REPAIRS; THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT OTHER 2006 NISSAN XTERRA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT THEY, LIKE ME, DO NOT OWN VEHICLES SUBJECT TO THE RECALL.
