TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD DISPLAY AN IMPROPER READING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THE FUEL PUMP SENDING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND SHE WAS INFORMED HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V075000, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILLARY TANK. THE FAILURE HAD NOT RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,188 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT AFTER FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK, THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD MOVE FROM FULL TO EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY INFORMED HER THAT THE FUEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SHE THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS THE FUEL SENSOR. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE STORAGE, AUXILIARY TANK) SO SHE WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT HER OWN EXPENSE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO CONFIRMED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000.
FUEL GAUGE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CONSTANTLY ON. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 06 NISSAN XTERRA ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WITH 1/4 TANK SHOWING ON MY FUEL GAUGE. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR SHUT DOWN. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE WITHOUT BEING STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. IT TURNS OUT THE FUEL SENDER UNIT (ERROR CODE PO463) IS DEFECTIVE AND THE VEHICLE HAD ACTUALLY RUN OUT OF GAS. THE UNIT WILL BE $600 TO REPAIR, AND IS NOT COVERED BY A WARRANTY. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE FOR NISSANS OF THIS AGE. THE GAS GAUGE IS NOW ENTIRELY USELESS, AND I MUST ESTIMATE MY GAS USAGE TO AVOID THIS HAPPENING AGAIN. *TR
I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! AFTER FUELING MY 06 NISSAN XTERRA,THE FUEL LIGHT READ EMPTY AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR TURNED ON. FAILED EMISSIONS. *TR
ERROR CODE P0463 I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR AND THAT IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED AFTER 30K MILES. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, WHEN THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE FUEL GAUGE WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: AUXILIARY TANK). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 65,000. UPDATED 05/12/10.*JB
FUEL GAUGE SHOWED 1/4 FULL AND THE CAR STOPPED WITH NO GAS. FILLED UP FROM A CONTAINER BROUGHT BY MY DAUGHTER AND DROVE TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL UP. TANK FULL AND THE GAUGE SHOWS EMPTY WITH THE EMPTY LIGHT ON AND THEN THE SES LIGHT ALSO TURNED ON. TOOK THE CAR TO GET A READING OF THE CODES AND COMES OUT HAS FUEL PUMP SENDER UNIT WHICH CONTROLS THE FUEL GAUGE. THE SOLUTION SO FAR IS TO CONTROL THE GAS USING THE MILE COUNTER. CONCERNED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF THE PUMP STOP WORKING WHILE DRIVING. 2006 XTERRA. 44K MILES. *TR
FUEL-SENDING UNIT PRONE TO FAILURE ON 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING MY USED NISSAN THE FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED LAST FALL. LESS THAN A YEAR LATER AND THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IS ONCE AGAIN SENDING INCORRECT READINGS TO THE FUEL INDICATOR. EVEN AFTER FILLING THE TANK THE FSU READS AS 3/4 FULL AND DOES NOT INDICATE PROPERLY AS FUEL IS USED. NISSAN HAS NOT PROVIDED A REPLACEMENT PART THAT FIXES THE PROBLEM, THE REPLACEMENT COMPONENT IS THE SAME AS THE ONE THAT WAS INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY AND JUST AS PRONE TO FAILURE. THIS COULD LEAD TO THE DANGEROUS SITUATION OF RUNNING OUT OF FUEL IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD, BRIDGE OR RAIL CROSSING. NISSAN HAS RECALLED ONLY SELECTED XTERRAS, BUT ALL 2005+ XTERRAS USE THE SAME PART. NISSAN SAYS THAT THIS ISSUE IS A SAFETY CONCERN BUT HAS ONLY ISSUES A LIMITED RECALL WHEN MANY MORE VEHICLES ARE AFFECTED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWED A QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS LEFT, THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED AND STOPPED. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM, SO I HAVE TO KEEP THE FUEL TANK SEMI FULL AT ALL TIMES. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AND THE RESPONSE I GET IS THERE ARE NO CURRENT RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE! *TR
6 MONTHS AGO MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND MY GAS GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK DONE AND IT IS A P0463 CODE WHICH IS THE FUEL SENSOR. NISSAN WANTS TO CHARGE ALMOST $700 TO FIX. AFTER RESEARCHING I FOUND THIS IS HAPPENING TO THOUSANDS OF XTERRAS. I HAVE CALLED NISSAN AND THEY ADMIT IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE THERE IS NO RECALL ON IT.
FUEL GAUGE CENSOR FAILED 11/01/09 2006 NISSAN XTERRA, RECALL ON THIS MODEL FOR 2006 XTERRA, FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM, DOES NOT INCLUDE MY VIN #. NISSAN REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
I STOPPED AT A GAS STATION TO FILL UP MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA AND AFTER THE FILL UP MY GAS GAUGE STILL READ 1/4 TANK. AFTER A MILE OF DRIVING, THE "SERVICE ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO AAMCO TO HAVE THE CODE READ. THE ERROR CODE CAME UP AS PO463. AAMCO TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE NISSANS AND THAT I SHOULD REVIEW OTHER CASES ON THE INTERNET. I HAVE 47,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND HAVE READ MANY THREADS ON WEBSITES THAT SHOW THIS BEING A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSANS' AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE. WITH THE AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE SEEN WITH THIS EXACT PROBLEM AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE, I BELIEVE NISSAN SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR IS NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR

THIS AFTERNOON AROUND 4:30 PM, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY CAMPUS SECURITY AT WORK. APPARENTLY, SOMEONE HAD WALKED PAST MY CAR IN THE PARKING LOT AND NOTICED THAT THE BACK REAR WINDOW HAD SHATTERED AND BLEW OUT. WHEN I WENT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED, THE SECURITY OFFICER TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF FORCE BY A PERSON, BUT IT SEEMED THAT THE GLASS HAD BLOWN OUT FROM THE INSIDE. WE TOOK NUMEROUS PICTURES, AND THE OFFICER ALSO MENTIONED THAT IT HAD HAPPENED TO A HANDFUL OF OTHER CARS THIS YEAR ALONE, INCLUDING OTHER NISSANS. HE SPECULATED THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE CHANGE. EARLIER IN THE MORNING, THE CAR WAS FROSTED OVER WHEN I DROVE TO WORK. BY AFTERNOON, IT WAS WARM ENOUGH WITHOUT A JACKET. NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THIS SITUATION. OUR WORK CAMPUS IS ALSO FENCED WITH SECURE ENTRY AT ALL TIMES. AFTERWARDS, WE CLEANED UP THE GLASS SO THAT IT WOULD NOT SHATTER ON THE ROAD WHILE I DROVE. THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR ON MANY NEWER NISSAN TRUCKS IS GOING BAD RIGHT AFTER THE 36K WARRANTY EXPIRES AND COSTS THE OWNER AN AVERAGE OF 400 DOLLARS TO FIX. THIS ISSUE CAUSES THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT TO COME ON AND CONSEQUENTLY CANNOT PASS INSPECTION WITHOUT BEING FIXED. I'VE SEEN MANY MANY CASES OF THIS ONLINE ON BULLETIN BOARDS AND FORUMS, AND IT SEEMS TO ME THIS IS WIDESPREAD ENOUGH THAT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS FUEL, THE GAUGE INDICATED THAT THE FUEL WAS FULL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EVERYTIME THE CONTACT FUELED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,783. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA WITH FUEL GAUGE MISREADING PROBLEM. ONE DAY, THE FUEL GAUGE METER DROPPED DOWN TO EMPTY AND LIGHT CAME ON DESPITE I HAD A QUARTER TANK OF GAS. EVER SINCE THEN I CANNOT TELL HOW MUCH GAS IS ACTUALLY IN THE TANK. WHEN THE GAUGE SHOWS A QUARTER TANK, IT'S LITERALLY EMPTY, AND WHEN I FILL UP THE TANK, IT TAKES HOURS TO READ FULL TANK. I HAVE RESEARCHED ARTICLES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, AND FOUND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE CALLED THE NISSAN HQ BUT THEY SAID MY VIN IS NOT UNDER THE RECALL MODELS, BUT ON THE WEBSITE (HTTP://WWW.AUTOBUYGUIDE.COM/2006/12-AUT/NISSAN/XTERRA/RECALLS/INDEX.HTML ) IT SPECIFICALLY LISTS THE SAME ISSUE THAT I'M HAVING AND ARE UNDER RECALL MODELS. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT HER EXPENSE. WE OWN A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA WITH APPROXIMATELY 55K MILES. ALONG WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHERS, WE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM OF A FAULTY FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. OUR MODEL HAS 2 FUEL GAUGES--1 ELECTRONIC THAT ESTIMATES THE NUMBER OF MILES REMAINING ("DTE") AND 1 STANDARD FUEL GAUGE (F----E). AFTER FILLING THE TANK, BOTH GAUGES HAD INTERMITTENT ISSUES. A FEW FILLS LATER, BOTH GAUGES INDICATE AN EMPTY TANK. EVERYONE SEEMS TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM SHORTLY AFTER THE 30,000 MILE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, FORCING THE CONSUMER TO SPEND ~$500 TO FIX THE ISSUE. SINCE IT IS CLEARLY A FAULTY PART, NISSAN NEEDS TO RECALL THIS PART OR FIX IT FOR FREE WHEN THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE IS IDENTIFIED. MY PREGNANT WIFE DRIVES OUR XTERRA DAILY AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE ALLOWING HER TO DRIVE A CAR WITH ABSOLUTELY NO FUEL GAUGE. WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC MY STEERING BECAME TIGHT. ALMOST CAUSING ME TO GO INTO THE OTHER LANE. ONCE YOU DROVE FOR A FEW MINS. THE STEERING WOULD GET BETTER. THEN WITHOUT WARNING THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY LOOSE. I COULD MOVE IT UP AND DOWN. TOOK TO DEALER TO FIND THAT MY STEERING COLUMN WAS BROKEN! 06 WITH 55,000 MILES ON IT SHOULD NOT HAVE A STEERING COLUMN TO BREAK. I HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT NOT COVERED. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED THE VEHICLE BE REPAIRED AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 51,000.

AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMTHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!!
