TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED TWICE AS A RESULT OF THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE READING INACCURATE GASOLINE FUEL LEVELS. THE CONTACT INQUIRED WITH THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: AUXILLARY TANK) BUT WAS TOLD HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
FAULTY FUEL SENSOR IN NISSAN XTERRA 2006. APPEARS TO BE A FREQUENT FAILURE WITH NISSAN VEHICLES AFTER 36 MONTHS (DUE TO CORROSION IN THE UNIT). UNIT CAN READ FAULTY CAUSING VEHICLE TO STOP. NISSAN ACKNOWLEDGES DEFECT BUT WILL NOT RECALL AND REPLACE THESE UNITS. *TR
CLUTCH FAILURE AT 27K MILES, COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER TO VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC. *TR
THE GAS SIGN DROPS AFTER FILLING UP INDICATING E WITH A LIGHT ON AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHICH HAS STAYED ON EVER SINCE JUNE 5, 2009. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WE WOULD SWITCH DRIVERS AND WOULDN'T KNOW HOW MUCH GAS THERE ARE, THAT'S A PROBLEM. WE PURCHASED THE NISSAN X-TERRA IN 2007, BUT IT IS THE MODEL YEAR 2006. THE PROBLEM DOES OCCUR WITHIN TWO YEARS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. WE BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON REPAIRING OUR VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS APPARENT THAT THE DEFECT CAME FROM THE MANUFACTURING OF THE VEHICLE. WE ARE STILL STUCK WITH THIS PROBLEM AND WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. IF THIS PROBLEM DOESN'T GET SOLVED, THERE WILL BE FURTHER ACTIONS. I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR AND THAT IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED AFTER 30K MILES. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! WHY WAIT FOR ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE DEATHS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PROBLEM LIES IN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. COST OF REPAIR RANGES FROM $300-600." *TR
ATTENTION FOR NISSAN XTERRA 2006 & UP I WORK IN A MECHANIC SHOP IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS WE HAD RECEIVED 2 NISSAN XTERRA WITH THE STEERING COLUMN BROKEN , WHAT HAPPENED IS THE BEARINGS THAT MAKES THE STEERING COLUMN TURN BROKE AND ALL THE PARTS GOES TO THE SHAFT (THE STEERING WHEEL GOES CRAZY) IS VERY , VERY DANGEROUS . 2006 NISSAN XTERRA FUEL GAUGE GIVING A FALSE READING FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT WAS REPLACED. *TR
FILLED MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA FULL WITH GAS AND GAS GAUGE DID NOT REGISTER ANY FUEL BEING PUT INTO TANK. AFTER 3 MILES OF DRIVING THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER 40 MILES OF DRIVING FUEL GAUGE WENT TO FULL BUT THE LIGHT IS STILL ON. I HAVE NOTICED THAT ONCE I GET BELOW HALF A TANK OF FUEL THE NEEDLE ON THE GAUGE DOESN'T MOVE UNTIL I HAVE ABOUT 1/8TH OF THE TANK LEFT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE 45,000 MILES AND CURRENTLY HAS 60,000 MILES BUT THIS LAST FILL-UP WAS THE FIRST TO HAVE THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT. *TR
2006 NISSAN XTERRA BOTTOMS OUT IN REAR EVERY BUMP IN ROAD. WITH PASSENGERS IN REAR, BUMP IS SO HARD IT CAUSES ALL PASSENGERS TO HIT HEAD, SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE HIT A TREE. CAN LOCATE SAME COMPLAINT ALL OVER INTERNET. NISSAN REPORTS "NOTHING WRONG" DESIGN FLAW ONLY. CRASHING MY REAR AXLE, STILL UNDER FULL WARRANTY AND REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING. THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR ON LATE MODEL NISSAN TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAILS AND READS AN EMPTY LEVEL AFTER FILL-UP. THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS OF THIS RECURRING PROBLEM AND HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN NTB07-069A TO INFORM ITS TECHNICIANS OF THE PROCEDURE NEEDED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS FAILURE OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING, AND REMAINS CONSTANT UNTIL CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE TECHNICAL BULLETIN DESCRIBES THE REPAIR PROCEDURE NEEDED TO ONLY REPLACE THE SENDING UNIT, AND NOT THE ENTIRE FUEL PUMP. FAILURE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO VEHICLES STALLED ON CONGESTED HIGHWAYS DUE TO IMPROPER FUEL LEVEL READOUTS. *TR
I OWN A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR, 2009, THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD TIME-TO-TIME STOP WORKING. WHEN THE FUEL LEVEL REACHES BELOW 1/2 A TANK, THE GAUGE WOULD AUTOMATICALLY DROP TO EMPTY. WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND THE VEHICLE IS FUELED TO A FULL LEVEL, THE GAUGE WOULD STILL NOT OPERATE. IT TAKES A FEW MILES OF DRIVING BEFORE THE FUEL GAUGE WILL SLOWLY BEGIN TO REACH TO THE TOP. THIS WOULD OCCUR EVERY TIME THE FUEL WOULD REACH BELOW 1/2 TANK. AFTER THIS HAPPENS, ITS A GUESSING GAME ON TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH IS IN MY TANK. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THREE TIMES NOW. I WAS TOLD BY A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN ANOTHER TOWN, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THAT PART. WHEN CONTACTING A DEALERSHIP NEAR ME, THEY DISAGREED AND GAVE ME A PRICE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON ONE DAY. NEXT TIME I FILLED MY TANK UP WITH GAS THE FUEL GAUGE DIDN'T REGISTER AND STAYED ON EMPTY. SINCE THEN IT HAS FLUCTUATED FROM 1/4 TANK TO EMPTY AND DOES NOT CORRECTLY GAUGE THE AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK. SES LIGHT REMAINS ON. *TR

2006 NISSAN XTERRA. CONSUMER STATES DEALER HAS NOT PROPERLY REPAIRED VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AT 58,000 MILES, THE RADIATOR BEGAN LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED AS A GOODWILL GESTURE. A YEAR LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME THERE WAS NO WARRANTY. NISSAN CORP. FOR A CAR WITH ABOUT 50,000 MILES, IT'S AN UNEXPECTED AND UNNECESSARY COST. JUDGING BY THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS, THIS ITEM SHOULD WARRANT A RECALL. *TR

NOTICED IT THE FIRST TIME LAST NIGHT. I HAD JUST UNDER A 1/4 TANK OF GAS IN MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA, AND DROVE 15 MILES AND PULLED OVER TO USE THE PHONE. LEFT THE ENGINE RUNNING, AND SUDDENLY NOTICED THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT WAS LIT, AND THE GAS GAUGE READ EMPTY. IMPOSSIBLE, AND ILLOGICAL. TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, TURNED BACK ON...SAME THING. DROVE TO GAS STATION, FILLED UP, MADE SURE CLICKED THE GAS CAP THREE TIMES FOR PROPER SEAL. GAUGE READ THAT THE GAS TANK WAS FULL, BUT THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT WAS STILL LIT. *TR

2006 NISSAN XTERRA OFF ROAD. FILLED UP WITH GAS AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AS WELL AS THE GAS GAUGE WILL NO LONGER READ CORRECTLY. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE XTERRA AND NEEDS TO BE MADE THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL. *TR
I OWN A 2006 NISSAN X-TERRA AND CURRENTLY THERE IS A RECALL DEFINED FOR A SPECIFIC SET OF VINS FOR A FUEL GAUGE READING MALFUNCTION, COMBINED WITH AN ILLUMINATED SES LIGHT. MY VEHICLE WHICH FOR SOME REASON IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL HAS HAD THIS EXACT FAILURE FOR OVER 1 YEAR, AS HAVE MANY OTHER NISSAN OWNERS. THE PROBLEM CREATES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN WHEN YOU ARE UNABLE TO RECEIVE AN ACCURATE READING ON THE FUEL LEVEL. AND NOW IT WILL NOT PASS A STATE EMISSIONS TEST, BECAUSE OF THE SES LIGHT. I HAVE TRIED TO DEAL WITH NISSAN AND EVERY TIME I DISCUSS THE ISSUE WITH THEM THEY EXPLAIN THAT IT IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I HAVE A 2006 XTERRA AND AT APPROXIMATELY 34,000 MILES THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED ACTING WACKY. MARKED EMPTY THOUGH I JUST FILLED UP AND IT WOULD SLUGGISHLY GO TO FULL AFTER A WHILE. A FEW DAYS AFTER THIS THE CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND WON'T GO OFF. FUEL GAUGE IS STILL ACTING WACKY. IT FIGURES THIS STARTED HAPPENING AFTER THE WARRANTY IS UP. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: AUXILLARY). THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,833. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000. UPDATED 11/19/10. *LJ UPDATED 11/16/10
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS CONTAMINATION OF RADIATOR FLUID AND THAT THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT OR THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR UNIT. I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP YET TO CONFIRM ALTHOUGH I AM HOPING THIS WILL BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY SINCE MY CAR HAS ONLY 28K MILES. *TR

THE WARRANTY IS UP SO I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND SEE IF THERE ARE OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE FOR THE LOYAL NISSAN CUSTOMERS THAT SPEND THE MONEY AND THEN HAVE A PROBLEM THAT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT. WITH PARTS AND LABOR THIS WILL RUN ANY WHERE FROM $500-800. THIS IS WRONG AND NISSAN SHOULD HAVE A RECALL (IF THERE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE LIKE AIRBAGS OR SET BELTS THEY WOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL). A FAULTY PART DESERVES A RECALL ALSO. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PARK THE VEHICLE, IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DRIVER WAS NOT INJURED, BUT BOTH VEHICLES SUSTAINED DAMAGES. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FROM THE SCENE AND TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE SPEED AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 42,000.

NISSAN IS NOT WILLING TO HONOR THE RECALL ON AIR BAG CRASH SENSOR. I LIVE IN NEVADA THEY SAY THAT ROAD SALT IS NOT USED IN THIS STATE YET I WORK FOR THE DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATIONS AND PERSONALLY ORDERED OVER 1000 TONS OF SALT TO BE APPLIED TO THE ROADS IN MY SECTION ALONE THIS YEAR. I HAVE CALLED THEM AND THEY WILL NOT RECONSIDER. *TR

DEALER STATES FAULTY FUEL SYSTEM AND STATES IF NOT REPLACED IT WILL SHUT OFF AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT WHICH COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES AFTER REFUELING MY 2006 NISSAN X-TERRA, THE FUEL GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY AND THE "LOW FUEL LIGHT" CAME ON. AFTER LEAVING IT PARKED FOR 20 MINUTES, I RETURNED TO THE TRUCK AND WHEN I STARTED IT THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE WAS STILL AT EMPTY. WHEN I HOOKED THE TRUCK UP TO A DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER IT SAID THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WAS BAD. I LOOKED THIS PROBLEM UP ON THE WEB TO SEE IF ANY OTHER X TERRA OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. I FOUND LOADS OF WEBSITES WITH OWNERS ACCOUNTS OF THEIR PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT ON XTERRAS FRONTIERS AND PATHFINDERS. MY TRUCK HAS 62000 MILES AND THIS PROBLEM IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY TYPE OF WARRANTY. THE NISSAN DEALER WANTS $99.00 JUST TO LOOK AT IT. AT 49,000 MILES MY FUEL GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY AND MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. IT HAS BEEN ERRATIC EVER SINCE, MOSTLY READING EMPTY. I HAD A FRIEND CHECK OUT THE ENGINE LIGHT CODE AND IT SAID IT WAS PO462, PO463 WHICH IS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. I WENT ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THIS PROBLEM. THE ISSUE HAS NEVER GONE AWAY AND CONTINUES TODAY. I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE IN MY TANK EXCEPT I KEEP TRACK ON THE ODOMETER HOW FAR I HAVE TRAVELED. I HAVE RUN OUT OF GAS A FEW TIMES ON THE ROAD NOT KNOWING I WAS ABOUT TO RUN OUT OF GAS. I ALSO DISCOVERED MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. NISSAN WANTS OVER $700 TO FIX IT. I THOUGHT THE PART WAS COVERED UNDER THE FUEL CALIFORNIA EMISSION CONTROL WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD NO. I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA WITH 49,969 MILES ON IT. AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK WITH GAS THE GAS GAUGE READ EMPTY AND THE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ON. REGULARLY GETTING FAULTY TIRE PRESSURE READINGS ON MY 2006 XTERRA FOR OVER A YEAR NOW (IN COLD AND WARM WEATHER, LONG AND SHORT TRIPS). AT FIRST, LIGHT WOULD FLASH INTERMITTENTLY, AND THEN STAY ON FOR LONG PERIOD UNTIL TIRE WAS INFLATED, PARTICULARLY LEFT FRONT TIRE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG. ON ONE OCCASION, I DID HAVE NAIL IN THE TIRE, WHICH WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW, THE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND OFF AND WHEN I CHECK THE PRESSURE, ALL TIRES WERE CORRECTLY INFLATED. FINALLY, THE LIGHT STAYED ON, SO I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY FINALLY TOLD ME IT WAS A FAULTY LEFT TIRE SENSOR - THE PRICE WOULD BE $200. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THIS WAS BEEN A RATHER WIDESPREAD PROBLEM ACROSS SEVERAL MAKES AND MODELS (CARS AND TRUCKS/SUVS - NEWER MODELS, 2006 AND NEWER). *TR
IN DECEMBER 2008 AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED ONLY 1/4 FULL. APPROXIMATELY 4 HOURS LATER THE SAME DAY AFTER SEVERAL ON AND OFF CYCLES THE MIL WAS ILLUMINATED. GAUGE INDICATION EVENTUALLY RETURNED TO NEAR FULL AS THE FUEL WAS USED. AFTER DROPPING BELOW 1/4 TANK THE GAUGE NOW DROPS TO ZERO AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED. CONDITION STILL EXISTS IN LATE FEBRUARY 2009. HAVE NOT HAVE CODE READ BUT RESEARCH CONFIRMS THAT SYMPTOMS ARE IDENTICAL OTHER REPORTS WITH FAILURE CONFIRMED AS DEFECTIVE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. *TR
