WHILE TAKING A RIGHT TURN DRIVING TO WORK THE POWER STEERING IN MY G6 WENT OUT CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK UP SENDING ME INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I LUCKILY WAS OUT AT A LOW TRAFFIC TIME AND WAS ABLE TO AVOID BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE STEERING AFTER THAT POINT WAS POSSIBLE BUT EXTREMELY HARD TO MANAGE AND SHARP OR QUICK TURNS WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE. I REACHED MY DESTINATION WHICH WAS CLOSE AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED THE ENGINE THE "POWER STEERING" ALERT THAT HAD FLASHED ON MY RADIO WAS OFF AND THE POWER STEERING SEEMED NORMAL AGAIN. AFTER RESEARCHING I'VE LEARNED THAT THIS HAS BEEN ON ONGOING PROBLEM AND I CAN EXPECT THAT IT WILL HAPPEN TO MY CAR AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING PUTTING ME IN DANGER WHILE DRIVING. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE!!!!! TELL YOU WHAT....WHY DON'T I COME OVER AND PICK UP YOUR CHILDREN, FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND TAKE THEM FOR A RIDE AND HOPE THAT THE POWER STEERING DOESN'T FAIL AND WE CRASH AND DIE. GET MY POINT??? I HAVE A 2005 PONTIAC G6 GT. LAST WEEK WHEN I WAS TURN ON THE OFF RAMP I COMPLETELY LOST POWER STEERING. THE LIGHT CAME ON STATING POWER STEERING, AND MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR TO A GAS STATION THOUGH IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD. I BOUGHT SOME POWER STEERING FLUID, BUT TO MY SURPRISE MY CAR HAS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SO THERE WOULDN'T BE A FLUID I COULD FILL. WHEN I TURNED MY CAR BACK ON THE LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER ON AND MY STEERING WAS FINE. TODAY - ABOUT SIX DAYS LATER - I WAS PULLING OFF THE OFF RAMP AND THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED. THIS TIME I COULD BARELY STEER AT ALL. I PULLED OVER, SHUT MY CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WAS FINE. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ONLINE AND I SEE THAT I AM ONE OF HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM ON THIS CAR. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO GET THIS FIXED BECAUSE THIS COULD BE A LIFE OR DEATH PROBLEM, AFTER REVIEWING ALL THE OTHER CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS I FEEL GM SHOULD RECALL ALL OF THE 2005 AND 2006 MODELS THAT MAY HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I WAS DIVING MY 2005 PONTIAC G6 WHEN I WAS TURNING INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION MY POWER STEERING LOCKED UP AND THE LIGHT ON THE DASH LIT UP, ALMOST CAUSING A HEAD ON COLLISION BY CARS DOING 50 MPH. I WAS JUST SITTING IN THE INTERSECTION BECAUSE I COULD NOT CONTROL MY CAR AFTER THAT HAPPENED ALMOST GETTING HIT BY ANOTHER 2 CARS. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING WORKED AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR BECAUSE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT WASN'T UNDER WARRANT SO THEY DID NOT REPLACE IT. THEY SAID IT WORKS FOR NOW BUT IT COULD GO OUT ANYTIME IM DRIVING, WHICH CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE JUST MY LUCK, ONLY TO SEE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAY PROBLEM IN THE SAME YEAR, IN THE SAME CAR WITH THE SAME MILEAGE. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING. THESE CARS NEED TO BE RECALLED ASAP SOMEBODY WILL GET HURT OR EVEN KILLED BY THIS. I WAS ONLY DOING AROUND 20MPH AND ALMOST GOT HIT THREE TIMES HEAD ON AND FROM THE BACK IMAGINE IF I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY OR EVEN TURNING DOWN A SIDE STREET AND LOOSING THE STEERING AND RUNNING UP A CURB ENDANGERING INNOCENT BYSTANDERS. SINCE THESE ARE NEWER CARS THERE ARE SO MANY OF THESE CARS OUT THERE THAT HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED THIS YET BUT WILL. NOT ONLY PEOPLE DRIVING THESE CARS ARE IN DANGER AT ANYTIME BUT OTHER PEOPLE ARE TO. I ALMOST GOT HIT HEAD ON BY A FORD TRUCK HIS LIFE WASIN DANGER JUST AS MUCH AS MINE. HOW THESE CARS ARE NOT RECALLED YET BLOWS MY MIND?????? SO MANY PEOPLE LIVES ARE IN DANGER IM DRIVING A CAR THAT THEY SAID THAT THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. ARE THEY JUST GOING TO WAIT UNTIL PEOPLE GET KILLED BY THIS IF NOT ALREADY OR COME UP WITH A SOLUTION BEFORE MORE PEOPLE LIVES ARE AT RISK. THESE CARS NEED TO BE LOOKED AT AND RECALLED ASAP. 2005 PONTIAC G6. I WAS TURNING IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN MY ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION UNABLE TO CONTROL MY CAR ALMOST GETTING HIT HEAD ON AND BY SEVERAL OTHER CARS AS I WAS JUS SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THIS CAR NEED TO BE RECALLED AS I READ SO MANY STORIES ABOUT PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND SOME WHICH CAUSED ACCIDENTS. IN MY CASE IT DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT THANK GOD THAT OTHER DRIVERS WERE PAYING ATTENTION AND SOMEHOW AVOIDED MY CAR. HOW THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED YET BLOWS MY MIND!!!!! NEEDS TO BE RECALLED ASAP. ON TOP OF THAT THE DEALERSHIP SAID MY STEERING CAN GO OUT AT ANYTIME. IM DRIVING A CAR THAT CAN LOOSE STEERING AT ANY TIME WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHICH ENDANGERS ANYBODY AROUND ME. *TR
DUE TO CONSTANT WARPING OF THE ROTORS, EXCESSIVE PRESSURE WAS PUT ON THE REST OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM CAUSING THE FRONT LEFT TIE ROD TO SNAP. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOSE CONTROL AND VEERED IN A LEFT 90 DEGREE ANGLE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. OTHER VEHICLES WERE ABLE TO SWERVE SO THERE WAS NO IMPACT WITH ME. I HAVE HAD CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THE ROTORS WARPING ON THIS CAR AND HAVE GONE THROUGH ABOUT 3 PAIRS DURING 80,000 MILES. ALL PARTS HAVE BEEN REPAIRED BY MY PERSONAL MECHANIC WITH GMAC TELLING ME THAT BRAKES ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PURCHASED WITH THE CAR. *TR
I WAS DROPPING MY 2 KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL THIS MORNING WHEN I HEARD THE WARNING SIGNAL COME ON AND I LOOKED AND SEEN "POWER STEERING" IN THE INFORMATION WINDOW ON THE STEREO AND A LITTLE CAR ON THE DASH. I NOTICED THAT I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO BE LOOKED AT AND WHEN THEY LOOKED AT IT THEY DID NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. SO I HAD THEM CHANGE THE OIL AND CHECK ALL OF THE FLUIDS AND AS THEY TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE IT DID THE SAMETHING TO HIM. THEY TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND PUT IT ON A MACHINE AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH CAR BUT THEY KNOW THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THE PERSON AT THE FRONT DESK DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO PUT A RECALL OUT ON THIS PROBLEM OR ARE WE GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE GETS KILLED BEFORE ANYONE TAKES ACTION. I AM JUST THANKFUL THAT MY CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE CAR AND I DID NOT HIT SOMEONE AND GET HURT OR HURT SOMEONE ELSE. PLEASE DO SOME RESEARCH AND SEE ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH POWER STEERING CUTTING OUT RANDOMLY ON A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THIS HAPPENED MOSTLY LAST SUMMER AND FOR SOME REASON STOPPED AS IT GOT COLDER. IT WOULD HAPPEN AS I WOULD START THE CAR, OR SOMETIMES AS I WAS DRIVING OR AS I WAS ARRIVING AT A DESTINATION. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ABOUT EVERY DAY, SOMETIMES A FEW TIMES A DAY. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, I WOULD HAVE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT TO WORK CORRECTLY. WHEN IT WENT OUT, THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AS WELL AS A NOISE TO ALERT ME, AND "POWER STEERING" WOULD FLASH ACROSS THE INFORMATION PANEL. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR JUST OVER A YEAR AND SPENT ALL OF LAST SUMMER WITH THE PROBLEM. NO ONE WAS HURT, THOUGH WHEN THE POWER STEERING WOULD GO OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING, I WOULD HAVE TO FIND A PLACE TO PULL OVER, WHICH WAS DIFFICULT WHEN THE WHEELS WOULD LOCK UP AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN.
I PURCHASED A 2005 G6 ABOUT 1 YR AGO. I AM EXPERIENCING TROUBLE WITH THE POWER STEERING. IT GETS VERY STIFF AND HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL, THEN THE POWER STEERING WARNING APPEARED ON THE CONSOLE INFO SCREEN. I THOUGHT IT NEEDED FLUID SO WHEN I WENT LOOKING FOR THE PLACE TO PUT IT AND THERE WASN'T ONE. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THIS FIXED? *TR
I HAVE A 2005 PONTIAC G6 THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN ME POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THE WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP AND THEY MADE ME AN APPOINTMENT AND WHEN I TOOK IT BACK THEY COULDN'T GET THE PROBLEM TO HAPPEN AGAIN. I TOOK IT BACK TWO OTHER TIMES AND THEY PERFORM DIAGNOSIS TEST AND COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. SINCE THEN I HAVE PARKED THE CAR AND RECENTLY CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS AND THE REP TOLD ME SHE COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND SEEN MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE. THIS STEERING PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE A RECALL OR THE COMPANY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD FOR 2 YEARS THAT'S BEING PARKED BECAUSE I'M SCARED TO DRIVE IT WITH TWO YOUNG KIDS IN THE CAR. *TR
PONTIAC G6 BRAKE LIGHTS WERE OPERATING OPPOSITE (BRAKES LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING AND NOT ILLUMINATED WHILE BRAKE IS APPLIED). CRUISE CONTROL NOT ENGAGING. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL FOR SOME MODELS OF THE G6 BUT WAS TOLD BY PONTIAC THAT MY G6 WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A PONTIAC G6 AND I AM HAVING THE STEERING LOCK UP AND MAKES SEVERAL POPPING SOUNDS WHEN TURNING I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY ALWAYS TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I WAS DRIVING ON MY WAY TO THE DOCTORS OFFICE WITH MY 68 YR OLD GRANDMOTHER ON MY PASSENGER SIDE. WE WERE SITTING AT THE LIGHT WAITING ON THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL TO TURN GREEN WHEN SUDDENLY MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON & MY CAR STATES POWER STEERING LOSS. THEN I REALLY LOST POWER STEERING IN MID TURN. THANKFUL ENOUGH THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WAS GREEN LONG ENOUGH FOR US TO HAVE MADE IT THROUGH THE TURN BECAUSE HAD IT NOT WE WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT MULTIPLE WAY. I HAVE BEEN READING THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR THE PONTIAC G6 2005 MODEL & I TRULY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED. WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR THIS ISSUE TO BE RESOLVED? *TR
WE HAVE A 2005 PONTIAC G6, THE POWER STEERING FAILS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. POWER STEERING WILL RESET IF THE CAR IS TURNED OFF THEN WILL FAIL AGAIN AFTER ONLY A FEW SECONDS OF DRIVING, WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO HAVE A RECALL ISSUED AS THIS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY VEHICLE FOR ALMOST THE ENTIRE TIME I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. AS IT HAS BEEN REVEALED IN A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V036000) THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY -- THEY TURN ON WHEN I AM NOT HITTING THE BRAKES AND TURN OFF WHEN I DO HIT THE BRAKES. IN JULY 2009 I THOUGHT I HAD THE ISSUE FIXED WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO A GM DEALER TO BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. HOWEVER, DESPITE THE VEHICLE BEING FIXED UNDER THE RECALL THE BRAKE LIGHTS STILL DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. I JUST GOT APPROACHED BY SOMEONE FOLLOWING ME A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING AGAIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP AND THE CORRESPONDING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE STEERING BECAME SO LOOSE THAT THE CONTACT LOST STEERING ABILITY AND VEERED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. SHE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING AREA. SHE TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND WAITED APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES. WHEN SHE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. SHE WILL ALSO NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILURE WAS PRODUCED BY A FAILED SENSOR. THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
1.) STEERING ON 2005 G6 GT PULLS CAR TO LEFT AND RIGHT INTERMITTENTLY, SEEMINGLY WITHOUT ANY CAUSE, NEARLY CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HAD CAR PROFESSIONALLY ALIGNED AND CARE STILL PULLS AND APPEARS TO BE GETTING WORSE. 2.) IT SEEMS TO OCCUR EVERY 1/4 TO 1/2 MILE. 3.) HAD CAR ALIGNED AS DESCRIBED ABOVE BUT DID NOT HELP. PREVIOUSLY, HAD RECEIVED NOTICE FROM PONTIAC IN EARLY OWNERSHIP OF CAR THAT POWER STEERING HAD A PROBLEM. CONTACT DEALER IN 2005 REGARDING NOTICE AND WAS TOLD NOT ALL CARS WERE EFFECTED AND IF PROBLEM HAD NOT PRESENTED I DIDN'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WILL CONTACT PONTIAC DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY STILL HAVE REMEDY. SEE OTHERS HAVE HAD ISSUES ON BLOGS WITHOUT RESOLUTION. *TR
MY 2005 G6 BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON 24/7 VERY HARD TO GET OUT OF PARK. I CANNOT USE THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE POSITION OF THE PEDAL IS AFFECTING EVERYTHING. IT'S UNSAFE! THEY ARE TELLING ME I NEED TO PAY $300.25 TO REPLACE THE BCM. NOTHING ELSE IS WRONG BUT WHAT THEY STATE IN THE RECALL PAPERS. WHY DO I HAVE TO FIX A PROBLEM THEY RECALLED?? *KB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN VIBRATES AND IS DIFFICULT TO STEER. ADDITIONALLY THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY DRIFTED TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY AND A MECHANIC REPLACED THE FRONT BALL JOINTS AND TIRES, AND PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT. ONE WEEK LATER THE FAILURES RESURFACED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP IN WHICH A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE BREAKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SHE SPECULATED THAT THE TECHNICIANS HAVE INCORRECTLY IDENTIFIED THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE; THEREFORE, THE DEALER STILL HAS POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 57,000.
2005 PONTIAC G6 LOST POWER STEERING WITHOUT NOTICE. INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON DASH AFTER THIS OCCURRED AND STATED POWER STEERING ON THE INFORMATION SCREEN BUT NO WARNING. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE CONTROLLED THE VEHICLE WENT INTO THE ONCOMING LANE IN TRAFFIC ON A CURVE, NARROWLY MISSING ONCOMING VEHICLES. THIS IS DANGEROUS!!!!! GM PONTIAC HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS EVEN THOUGH THEY STATE THEY HAVE OFFERED A COURTESY GESTURE TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY TO 7 YEARS / 70,000 MILES FOR THE POWER STEERING COMPONENT. THIS IS SERIOUS AND MUST BE CONSIDERED FOR RECALL. GM HAS ADMITTED THERE IS A PROBLEM--OBVIOUSLY IF THEY HAVE ISSUES A COURTESY BULLETIN--YET NO OWNERS HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED--WE DO CURRENTLY RECEIVE ANY RECALL NOTICES BUT NOTHING IN THIS REGARD. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED IMMEDIATELY. *TR

THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO REGAIN POWER STEERING ABILITY; HOWEVER, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY FAILURES BEFOREHAND. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 79,383.

MY POWER STEERING LIGHT HAD BEEN COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS. YESTERDAY WHILE LEAVING A PARKING GARAGE THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. I CONTINUED DRIVING AND AS I WENT TO TURN THE WHEEL, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN (5-8MPH). I NEARLY RAN INTO A PILLAR IN THE PARKING GARAGE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY, BUT THE POWER STEERING LIGHT STAYED ILLUMINATED. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR SOME TIME, I CAME ACROSS HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS. A FEW OF THE SAME PROBLEMS OCCURRED WHILE PEOPLE WHERE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY IF SOMEONE WOULD HAVE BEEN GOING AROUND A TURN OR JUST SWITCHING LANES. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR INDUSTRY WANT US TO STICK BEHIND AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS BUT ARE UNWILLING TO FIX POTENTIALLY DEADLY PROBLEMS UNTIL THE INEVITABLE OCCURS AND SOMEONE LOSSES THEIR LIFE BECAUSE OF A PROBLEM THEY KNOW ABOUT. PROBLEM WITH 2005 PONTIAC G6. STEERING COLUMN AND POWER STEERING RACK HAS A POPPING NOISE AND OCCASIONALLY POWER STEERING ACTS LIKE ITS IS GOING OUT. THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THESE G6'S. DESPITE THE FACT THAT PONTIAC IS NOW FILING BANKRUPT, SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO HELP THOSE WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW CAR TO HAVE THE PROBLEMS WITH THE G6'S RESOLVED. OWNER OF A PONTIAC 2005 G6. I HAVE HAD IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP IN THE PAST TO WORK ON A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. DURING HOTTER MONTHS THE KNOCKING NOISE IS MORE ACTIVE. I HAVE HAD IT IN AT LEAST TWICE TO THE DEALER TO DEAL WITH THIS. THE LAST TIME IT WAS SERVICED THEY CLAIMED IT WAS THE I SHAFT. IT WAS LUBED AND REPOSITIONED. THERE WAS ALSO NOISE FROM STEERING GEAR. THE GEAR WAS REPLACED AND SET TOE IN. AS OF THIS LAST FRIDAY, JUNE 12TH, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM OUT OF TOWN AND THE "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE SHOWED UP ON MY CONSOLE. I FIGURED THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE FLUID AND HAD MY SON GET THE BOOKLET OUT OF THE GLOVE BOX. THE POWER STEERING WAS DRASTICALLY TIGHTENING UP. THIS STARTLED ME SINCE IT INVOLVED NAVIGATING TRAFFIC AND GETTING IT OFF THE ROAD ESPECIALLY SINCE I ALSO HAD MY SON WITH ME. WE PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND COULD NOT LOCATE A SPECIFIC AREA FOR PUTTING IN POWER STEERING FLUID. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE PONTIAC DEALERSHIP. WE WERE TOLD THIS WAS A COMPUTER ISSUE WITH THE CAR - THERE IS NO HYDRAULICS - AND THAT THE STEERING COLUMN MUST BE REPLACED FOR $750.00. I, TOO, AM FILING MY COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA TODAY FOR THE SAFETY OF FAMILIES WHEN IN TRANSPORTATION. WE OWN A 2005 PONTIAC G6 WHICH WE BOUGHT NEW, AND MY WIFE DRIVES THE CAR. IT'S BEEN A GOOD CAR. BUT, WHEN IT WAS NEW PONTIAC HAD TO FIX A CLUNKY STEERING PROBLEM AFTER ONLY ONE YEAR (UNDER WARRANTY). 59K MILES, AND 4 YEARS LATER, THE STEERING CLUNK RETURNED. I CALLED PAUL MASSE PONTIAC IN WOONSOCKET, RI (WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR) AND ASKED IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND THEY SAID IT WAS. STILL, WE HAD THEM REPAIR THE STEERING WHEEL ($400) LAST WEEK. WHAT THEY TOLD ME WAS THE CRASH EXTENSION (TELESCOPING) PART OF THE STEERING SHAFT NOW HAS A NYLON BUSHING TO KEEP THE SMALLER EXTENSION SHAFT IN PLACE AND LUBRICATED. NOW THE CAR'S STEERING HAS NO CLUNK AND IT DRIVES STRAIGHT, EVEN ON RUTTY PAVEMENT. SOME CARS WERE BRAND NEW. ACCORDING TO THE POSTING SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE CONTACTED GM CORPORATE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT, BUT WITH NO SUCCESS. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS TO BE ADDRESSED BY GM. THESE CARS NEED TO BE INSPECTED. THIS COULD RESULT IN CASUALTIES.
