TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50-55 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A TURN, THE STEERING BEGAN ABNORMALLY JERKING. THE CONTACT WOULD CONTINUE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE SHE WOULD HAVE TO CONTINUE TO PLAY WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD START. WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT EXCESSIVE SHAKING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROOTERS, TIRES, BRAKES AND PERFORMED A WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE STEERING FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE DID NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT IT DID SLOW DOWN GRADUALLY. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE BRAKE CALIPER WORE DOWN INTO THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE ROTOR AND BRAKE PADS AND CAUSED A RELEASE OF BRAKE FLUID. THE MECHANIC REPAIRED ALL THE DEFECTS ON THE WHEEL. SOON AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ABS MODULE UNIT FAILED AND WAS BEGINNING TO AFFECT THE FRONT BRAKES. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE MODULE AND THE FAILURE CEASED. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 33,000. THE BRAKE LAMPS ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS NOT BEEN DEPRESSED, OR THE LAMPS MAY NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT ENGAGE, AND GREATER BRAKE PEDAL FORCE IS REQUIRED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. *TR
2005 PONTIAC G6 HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS WHERE THE LIGHTS STAY ON WHILE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT BEING PUSHED, OR DON'T COME ON AT ALL UNLESS YOU PUSH REALLY HARD. I LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF I COULD FIND A SOLUTION AND FOUND MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES. *TR
3RD BRAKE LIGHT (REAR OF VEHICLE) STAYS ON WHEN VEHICLE IS RUNNING AND WHEN VEHICLE IS OFF WHEN KEY REMOVED. IT IS NECESSARY TO PULL THE FUSE TO TURN OFF THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT TO PREVENT THE BATTERY FROM DRAINING WHEN VEHICLE IS OFF. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 PONTIAC G6 AND EVERYTIME I TURN MY WHEEL THERE IS A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. A LOT OF THESE PROBLEMS COULD BE LINKED TO THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST STEERING. I HAVE HEARD SOME PEOPLE HAVE LOST ALL STEERING WHILE DRIVING. THE STEERING IS VERY LOOSE AND FEELS LIKE YOU ARE ALL OVER THE ROAD. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE CAR WAS MOTION. A GEAR SHEARED OFF THE CAR AND BROKE THE TRANNY CASING. *TR
I HAVE HAD THE STEERING RACK ON MY 2005 G6 REPLACED 3 TIMES, THE LAST TIME IT LASTED 4 MONTHS AND APPROX 3,400 MILES THE TIME BEFORE THAT IT LASTED 17, 000 MILES AND ABOUT 1 YEAR. IT SEEMS THAT THIS CAR MODEL HAS SOME SERIOUS STEERING ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED AND MAKE PONTIAC ACCOUNTABLE. NUMEROUS CALLS TO THE PONTIAC 880 DO NOTHING. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CONSUMER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 5-10 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A CHIME SOUND INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. IMMEDIATELY, THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, FOLLOWED BY AN UNINTENDED LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER EXERTED MORE EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE WARNING INDICATOR WAS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE POWER STEERING RESUMED TO NORMAL. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 55,500. MY BRAKE LIGHTS WILL BE ON WITHOUT THE BRAKES BEING PRESSED AND WILL GO OFF WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. HAS OCCURRED ON AND OFF OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS. I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL FORUMS AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH G6 OWNERS. *TR
CONTINUOUS PROBLEM WITH STEERING, EVEN AFTER DEALER REPLACED AND SERVICED ALL COMPONENTS ...IT CAME STEERING CLUNK AT U JOINT AND STEERING SHAFT CAME BACK. TO MY UNDERSTANDING THIS IS A MAJOR MANUFACTURER FLAW FROM TALKING TO PEOPLE DRIVING PONTIAC G6 FROM 2005 TILL 2007? ...AND IT CAN POTENTIALLY LEAD TO STEERING LOCK THAT WILL LEAD TO ACCIDENT AND WORSE. *TR
I STARTED EXPERIENCING TROUBLE WHEN TURNING MAINLY TO THE RIGHT. IT WAS SUBTLE AT FIRST THEN BECAME MORE PREVALENT. IT STILL SEEMS LIKE THE PROBLEM MAINLY OCCURS WHEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT. NO CONSEQUENCES HAVE OCCURRED YET, HOWEVER, IF THE PROBLEM CONTINUES OR GETS WORSE IT COULD LEAD TO PROBLEMS. I HAVE RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE YET. IF PROBLEM PERSISTS OR GETS WORSE I WILL HAVE TO TAKE ACTION TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2005 PONTIAC G6, AND THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE BRAKE SWITCH. THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON EVEN WHEN I'M NOT STEPPING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASIS, THAT I CAN SEE THE REFLECTION OF MY BRAKE LIGHTS COMING ON WHILE I'M DRIVING. *TR

AFTER 64,000 MILES ON A 2005 PONTIAC G6, I STARTED HEARING A CLUNK NOISE AFTER TURNING STEERING WHEEL AND WHILE DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY OVER 50 MPH, MY STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES. IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOOSE AND SOMETHING IS ABOUT TO COME APART ON MY CAR. I WENT TO A MECHANIC TO GET NEW BRAKE PADS AND HE STATED THAT THE VIBRATION AND STEERING NOISE WAS BECAUSE MY BALL JOINTS WERE BAD. I HANDLE THIS CAR EXTREMELY WELL AND CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY BALL JOINTS WOULD BE BAD SO SOON. HE ALSO STATED THAT AFTER TRYING TO FIND PARTS, ONLY THE DEALER SOLD THEM AND THEY WERE A WHOPPING 215.00 FOR EACH SIDE OF CAR. MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AND THIS IS GOING TO BE AN OUT OF POCKET COST. IT ALSO SEEMS THAT I HAVE TO KEEP REPLACING THE BRAKES AND ROTORS OFTEN. ADDITIONALLY MY POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON SPORADICALLY MAKING IT HARD FOR ME TO TURN THE WHEEL. *TR
I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING OF MY 2005 PONTIAC G6 FROM THE DAY IT WAS PURCHASED. THE STEERING HAS BEEN FIXED UNDER WARRANTY BUT HE ISSUE CONTINUES. I'M TOLD BY MY DEALER THAT IT JUST SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE THAT I NEED TO LIVE WITH. I AM ALSO REALLY AFRAID THIS WILL CAUSE ME TO CRASH AND KILL MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOST WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN WHILE PREPARING TO MAKE A TURN OR WHILE PARALLEL PARKING. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS YESTERDAY AND I BARELY HAD ENOUGH TIME TO PULL MY CAR OFF THE ROAD. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON, DINGS, AND THEN THE POWER STEERING IS COMPLETELY GONE. IF I TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON, THE POWER STEERING COMES BACK. BUT IT WORRIES ME THAT AT ANY TIME I COULD LOSE POWER STEERING AND ALSO CONTROL OF MY CAR. THIS FIRST STARTED ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO (DECEMBER 2009), AND FOR A WHILE IT HAPPENED ALMOST EVERY TIME I WOULD MAKE EVEN A SLIGHT SHARP TURN OR ATTEMPT TO PARALLEL PARK. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY, FROM A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK TO A FEW TIMES A DAY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING. SHE MENTIONED THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THE FAILURE HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING AND MODULE FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THEY HAD DONE SO ONCE BEFORE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 148,000. UPDATED 03/24/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER WAS ACTIVATED PRIOR TO TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN SHE RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE, THE REAR GLASS SHATTERED WITHOUT FORCE. THE HEATING ELEMENT FROM THE DEFROSTER CAUSED THE GLASS TO SHATTER. IN ADDITION, WHENEVER THE DEFROSTER AND RADIO WERE ACTIVATED SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE RADIO WOULD SHORT CIRCUIT AND CAUSE INTERMITTENT STATIC. THE DEFROSTER WAS NOT CLEARING THE CONDENSATION FROM THE REAR GLASS SURFACE SUFFICIENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 72,464.
ONE DAY THE CAR'S BRAKE LIGHT STAYED ON. IT OCCURS DAILY FOR NO REASON. IT HAS DRAINED MY BATTERY AND BURNT OUT THE LIGHTS. IT ALSO CONFUSES DRIVERS. I WENT TO A PONTIAC DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED AND THEY SAID THE RECALL I WAS SPEAKING OF DIDN'T INVOLVE MY VEHICLE. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $116.00 JUST TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. I CALLED GM AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DID KNOW OF THE RECALL, BUT IT DIDN'T PERTAIN TO MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WASN'T BUILT IN THE MONTH THEY HAVE HAD THE PROBLEMS. *TR
I HAVE LOSS OF POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY, THIS OCCURS MOSTLY AT LOW SPEEDS BUT IS OCCURRING WITH MORE FREQUENCY AS OF LATE. THE CAR ALSO IS STARTING TO SHAKE AROUND 60MPH, THE TIRES ARE ONE YEAR OLD (REPLACEMENT TIRES) AND THE ALIGNMENT WAS DONE WHEN IT WAS COMPLETED. I WENT BACK AND THEY DOUBLE CHECKED THE ALIGNMENT AND SAID IT WAS PERFECT. I AM AFRAID THAT THE STEERING ISSUE WILL OCCUR AT HIGHER SPEEDS WHILE EITHER MY WIFE OR I ARE DRIVING IT, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RESOLVED, NOT BY SIMPLY POSTING A TSB BUT BY POSTING A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BECAUSE OF ITS SEVERITY AND POTENTIAL CAUSE FOR PERSONAL HARM. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL AND LIGHTS MALFUNCTION...FREQUENTLY (90% OF THE TIME) THE BRAKE PEDAL DOES NOT LET ME SHIFT OUT OF PARK UNTIL AFTER 2 OR 3 TRIES. MOST IMPORTANTLY...MY BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WHILE DRIVING AND GO OFF WHEN USING THE BRAKE. I HAVE BEEN STOPPED SEVERAL TIMES BY OTHER DRIVERS. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THE PROBLEM WAS A BROKEN BRAKE WIRE BUT THEY REPLACED IT AND THAT DID NOT FIX IT. THEY DO NOT SEEM TO KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. I AM AFRAID SOMEONE WILL RUN INTO ME ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT BECAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHTS FREQUENTLY GO OFF WHILE I'M BRAKING. *TR
I OWN A 2005 PONTIAC G6 V6. EVERY TIME I TURN ON MY A/C, MY POWER STEERING GOES OUT. IF I TURN OFF MY VEHICLE AND RESTART IT, MY POWER STEERING IS RESTORED UNTIL I TRY TO USE MY AIR AGAIN. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM I HAVE HAD FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. I HAVE HIT A GUARD RAIL BECAUSE AS I TURNED INTO THE CURVE, MY POWER STEERING WENT AND THE WHEEL YOKED TO THE LEFT CAUSING ME TO HIT THE GUARD RAIL. THIS IS A PROBLEM GM IS AWARE OF AS THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM IN THE NEWER 07 MODEL. MANY PEOPLE HAVE PAID TO FIX THIS PROBLEM ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE IT IS THE 05 PARTS. HOW ABOUT A RECALL????? *TR
PONTIAC SENT A LETTER REGARDING THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. AS OF TODAY, THE STEERING IN MY PONTIAC G6 HAS BEEN REPAIRED 3 TIMES, THE GAS CAP HAS BEEN REPLACED AT LEAST THREE TIMES, AND THE RADIO HAS BEEN REPLACED 5 TIMES, 3 OF WHICH HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST THREE WEEKS. I SE AN INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED REGARDING THE STEERING IN 2007 AND I SEE NO RESULTS OF THE FINDINGS. THE ISSUES HAVE BEEN PERSISTENT FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND PONTIAC DEALERS REFUSE TO TEST FOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES. I HAVE BEEN GOING ROUND AND ROUND WITH THE PONTIAC COMPANY FOR THREE WEEKS WITH NO SOLUTION. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR THREE TIMES IN THE PAST THREE WEEKS. PLEASE HELP. I SEE OTHER CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE 2005 PONTIAC G6 AND OTHERS SEEM TO REPORT THE SAME ISSUES. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CHILD AROUND IN THIS CAR AND PONTIAC DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 PONTIAC G6 GT. THE BRAKE LIGHTS,WITH NO KNOWN CAUSE,BEGAN TO STAY ON WHEN ACCELERATING AND TURN OFF WHEN THE BRAKE WAS HIT. THIS OCCURRED DAY AND NIGHT WITHOUT ANY KNOWN CAUSE. THE BIGGER PROBLEM WAS THAT THE LIGHTS WORKED SOMETIMES,MAKING IT HARD TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM. I HAVE YET TO FIND A MECHANIC WHO HAS BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE AND CORRECT THE BRAKE LIGHTS. *TR
STEERING COLUMN FEELS LOOSE WHEN DRIVING. IT MAKES A KNOCKING NOISE WITH MOVEMENT LEFT OR RIGHT. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN 2008. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS AND FOUND TO HAVE NOTHING WRONG WITH THE STEERING SO WE CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT. RECALL INFOR SENT TO ME CONCERNING THIS EXACT PROBLEM HOWEVER THE REPAIRS CANT BE MADE WITHOUT THE PARTS. GM PLEASE HURRY AND GET THE RECALL PARTS TO THE REPAIR SHOPS. I DON'T WANT TO LOOSE MY LIFE OVER THIS AND THE ANXIETY OF DRIVING AROUND IN A VEHICLE THAT HAS AS MANY RECALLS AS THIS ONE DOES IS VERY HARD TO DEAL WITH. *TR
ONGOING NOISE IN POWER STEERING SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE G6 NEW IN 2005. THERE'S ALWAYS BEEN A CLUNK WHEN TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT AT SLOW SPEEDS (IE: PARKING LOT). TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS HAVE DETERMINED (UNTIL NOW) THAT THE NOISE IS NORMAL. THE NOISE LEVEL HAS INCREASED OVER THE PAST 3+ YEARS AND NOW AT 40,000 MILES THE "INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT" NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I'M HOPING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL COVER THE $450 REPAIR JOB. *TR
I OWN A 2005 PONTIAC G6 WHICH I PURCHASED FROM A DEALER AFTER IT HAD BEEN LEASED FOR 1 YEAR. THE VEHICLE HAD 12000 MILES ON IT WHEN PURCHASE. NUMEROUS PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED WITH THIS VEHICLE AFTER PURCHASE. STARTING WITH A NOISE, CLUNK IN THE STEERING. THIS HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP FOR UPWARDS TO 7-8 TIMES, EACH TIME NEW REPAIRS DONE ON DIFFERENT PARTS. THIS PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN RESOLVED. NOW AT 64500 MILES THE NOISE IS STILL THERE AFTER REPAIRS ONLY 4000 MILES AGO. STARTING IN OCTOBER OF 2007 I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND CRUISE CONTROL. BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING ONLY SPORADICALLY AS WELL AS THE CRUISE CONTROL. THERE HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED REPAIRS ON THE IS OF 7-8 TIMES AS WELL. THIS PROBLEM ALSO HAS NEVER BEEN RESOLVED. ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2008 MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR-END AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT IN MOST PART AND NO DOUBT DUE TO FAULTY BRAKE LIGHT SYSTEM. MANY OTHER PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED WITH THIS VEHICLE AS WELL INCLUDING POOR SUNVISOR MANUFACTURING, LEAKY MAP LIGHTS IN OVERHEAD CONSOLE, RAPID WEAR OF BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS, RAPID TIRE WEAR, STARTING DRAGS WHEN STARTING, OCCASIONALLY THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING AND BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED. *TR
MY POWER STEERING WILL LOCK UP, MY STEERING WHEEL WILL FREE SPIN TO THE LEFT AND TIGHT TO THE RIGHT. *TR
THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2005 PONTIAC G6 GT EXPERIENCES INTERMITTENT FAILURES. STEERING BECOMES EXTREMELY DIFFICULT WITH POSSIBLY A COMPLETE LACK OF POWER STEERING FUNCTION. THE STEERING GOES OUT MOSTLY AT SLOW SPEEDS AND IT UNPREDICTABLE. IN ORDER TO RESTORE POWER STEERING FUNCTION, THE CAR USUALLY HAS TO BE RESTARTED. POWER STEERING REPLACEMENT WAS LOOKED INTO, BUT AT $600+ FOR A PROBLEM THAT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING ISSUE (SEE RECENT GM RECALLS), I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE FIXED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 PONTIAC G6 FOUR DOOR SEDAN . FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT HAS COME ON ALONG WITH A WARNING ON THE AUDIO DISPLAY SHOWING "POWER STEERING". THESE INCIDENTS WERE INFREQUENT AND NO PARTICULAR REASON WAS FOUND FOR THE WARNING. UP UNTIL LAST WEEK I ATTRIBUTED THE PROBLEM TO A FAULTY SENSOR. LAST WEEK I STARTED MY CAR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE "POWER STEERING WAS DISPLAYED IN THE AUDIO SYSTEM, AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING TO FOR THE VEHICLE. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF THEN BACK ON AND THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. ON SATURDAY 08/30/2008 WHILE DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN AND I LOST POWER STEERING IN THE CAR AGAIN. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AND THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. ON 09/03/2008 I STARTED MY CAR AND THE WARNING LIGHTS AGAIN CAME ON AND I AGAIN HAD NO POWER STEERING. I AGAIN TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AND THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. I THEN DROVE TO RED HOAGLAND PONTIAC IN BRADENTON, FL FOR REPAIRS WHERE I WAS TOLD TWO MODULES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD COST ME $1,095.00. I READ A RECENT BLOG THAT STATED THERE HAD BEEN ABOUT 19 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THIS VEHICLE AND THAT A RECALL WOULD PROBABLY BE COMING SOON FROM YOUR AGENCY. THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS OUTRAGEOUS BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY IF THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
SITTING A LIGHT TODAY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH A NOTICE OF "POWER STEERING". I WAS BARELY ABLE TO TURN MY CAR INTO A PARKING LOT. I'M 35 MILES FROM HOME AND WAS INFORMED BY CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 800-222-1020 THAT I WOULD NEED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A PONTIAC DEALERSHIP TO BE CHECKED. I HAVE 71,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 70,000 MILES. I WAS QUOTED BY A PONTIAC SERVICE CENTER THAT THE COULD WOULD BE ABOUT $1000. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL OR COVERED BY PONTIAC! *TR
I WAS 30 MINUTES FROM HOME AND I WENT TO GET IN MY NEW CAR I HAD JUST PURCHASED 2 WEEKS AGO AND THE POWERSTEERING WAS OUT. WE TRIED EVERYTHING TO FIX IT AND NOTHING WORKED. WE COULDN'T EVEN FIND ANYWHERE FOR THE POWER STEERING FLUID TO GO. IT'S BEEN IN THE SHOP A DAY NOW AND THEY CAN'T FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. I READ ON A AUTO BLOG WEBSITE THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION IN 2007 AND THERE IS NO RECALL. WELL THERE NEEDS T BE!! 2005 PONTIAC G6, BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WITHOUT TOUCHING THE BRAKES. IT OCCURS SPORADICALLY. IF YOU TAP THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE LIGHTS GO OFF FOR ABOUT 3-5 SECONDS, THEN THEY COME BACK ON. I'VE HAD IT IN AT THE PONTIAC DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I'VE DONE INTERNET SEARCHES ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND IT APPEARS TO BE HAPPENING TO OTHER G6 OWNERS ALL OVER THE U.S. I'VE HAD OTHER MOTORISTS FLASH ME AND MOTION TO ME ON THE FREEWAY AND I DON'T THINK IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR THIS WAY. *TR
THE SEAL ON MY PANORAMIC ROOF LEAKED DURING A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR. I DID NOT DRIVE THE CAR FOR A FEW DAYS BECAUSE OF HAVING SURGERY. 2 DAYS AFTER THE RAIN STORM WHEN I OPENED MY CAR I FOUND AN INCH OF WATER COVERING THE FLOOR AND MOLD COVERING MOST OF THE INTERIOR. MOLD WAS ALSO LOCATED INSIDE THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WHEN TURNED ON. THE HEATED SEATS WERE RUINED AS WERE ANY ELECTRICAL DEVICES INSIDE THE CAR. ALL PERSONAL ITEMS AND INFANT SEAT WERE ALSO RUINED. I AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR WHAT IS GOING TO BE DONE. THEY ARE TRYING TO CONVINCE ME IT CAN BE CLEANED, BUT WITH THE AMOUNT OF MOLD AND MY EXISTING ASTHMA IT IS A DETRIMENT TO MY HEALTH TO BE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I ALSO HAVE AN INFANT WHICH CANNOT COME INTO THE VEHICLE AT ALL BECAUSE OF SAID MOLD. I STILL DON'T KNOW AFTER CONTACTING GM IF THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM OR IF I NEED TO SCRAP THE CAR. THIS IS THE SECOND PROBLEM I HAVE HAD, HOWEVER THE FIRST INVOLVED THE BRAKE ROTORS GRINDING TOO QUICKLY AND CAUSING THE CAR TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHEN BRAKING AT ANY SPEED. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKES DONE AT LEAST EVERY 3 MONTHS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM FOR THE PAST 2 AND A HALF YEARS. *TR
MY PONTIAC G6 2005 HAD EXTREME POWER STEERING ISSUES. THE POWER STEERING OVER A PERIOD OF 4 MONTHS WOULD GO IN AND OUT. WHETHER ON THE FREEWAY OR ON LOCAL ROADS. WHEN MONEY WAS AVAILABLE TO REPAIR, THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A PONTIAC LICENSED DEALERSHIP. AFTER ANALYZING THE PROBLEM, THE SERVICING TEAM SAID THAT THE COMPLETE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE PROBLEM (ELECTRIC POWER STEERING) WAS WITHIN THE COLUMN. WITH LABOR AND REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN THE TOTAL COST FOR THE REPAIR CAME TO $806.80. THE MECHANICS DID SAY AFTER 70,000 THE PROBLEMATIC POWER STEERING GOING OUT ON G6'S MADE IN 2005 BEGINS TO OCCUR IN THE CAR AND THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN IN ALOT OF INSTANCES NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ENTIRELY. *TR UPDATE (10/7/08): LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE POWER LIGHT INITIALLY DID NOT COME ON. AS THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE FREQUENT, WITHIN THE TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE REPAIR, THE WARNING LIGHT BEGAN TO LIGHT UP. SINCE THE REPAIR (STEERING COLUMN), I HAVE NOT HAD A RECURRENCE OF THIS PROBLEM.

WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED HER VEHICLE, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD DEPLOYED. THERE WAS NO OCCUPANT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AT THE TIME OF THE DEPLOYMENT AND THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN A CRASH PRIOR TO THE ILLUMINATION. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING WITH A PASSENGER IN HER VEHICLE. WHEN THE PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO FASTEN HER SAFETY BELT, THE BELT LOCKED AND WOULD NOT EXTEND. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,487.
BOUGHT CAR USED FROM INDIVIDUAL. LOTS OF ISSUES WITH IT. STEERING LOCKS UP WHEN DRIVING, TAKE KEY OUT AND CAR STILL RUNS, LIGHTS SHUT DOWN WHEN DRIVING, TRACTION CONTROL KICKS IN AND MESSES WITH CAR. STEERING CAUSED ME TO ALMOST WRECK 2X AND HAS HAD ME HAVE TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND SHUT CAR DOWN ON INTERSTATE AND RESTART TO TRY TO BE ABLE TO STEER. *TR

I PURCHASED MY CAR IN JULY AND THE VERY SAME DAY MY DAD WAS DRIVING IT AND SAID THAT THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED OUT OF HIS HAND AS HE WAS TURNING A CORNER WHICH RESULTED IN HIM DRIVING INTO THE ONCOMING LANE. I DROVE THE CAR RIGHT AFTER HIM AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE, THE STEERING WHEEL DOESN'T LOCK, IT FEELS AS IF SOMEONE IS PULLING IT IN THE OTHER DIRECTION. TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT SAT FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO DO IT FOR THEM SO THEY GAVE IT BACK. FEW WEEKS LATER I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND IT WAS GIVING ME TENSION WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. EVERY TIME I TURN I HAVE TO BRACE FOR THE WHEEL TO JERK OUT OF MY HAND AND USE ALL OF MY BODY WEIGHT TO PULL THE WHEEL BACK. MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP NOW AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND NEEDS TO BE RE ALIGNED. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND IF IT HAD HAPPENED IN THE WINTER THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT FOR SURE. *TR

THE FRONT PORTION IS OPEN AT 45 DEGREE ANGLE AND WON'T CLOSE AND THE LAST PORTION OF THE SUN ROOF IS PARTIALLY OPEN AND WON'T CLOSE. HE HAS CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY BOTH HAVE INFORMED HIM THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER AND IT COULD TAKE ANYWHERE FROM SEVERAL WEEKS TO SEVERAL MONTH TO BECOME AVAILABLE.
