I BOUGHT MY CAR ON JUNE 2, 2008, WHEN WE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WE COULD SMELL OIL BURNING, WE THOUGHT THEY JUST OVERFILLED THE FLUIDS, ON THURSDAY, JUNE 5TH, 2008 WHILE GOING TO LUNCH, MY TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT IN MY CAR, IT WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ELEVEN (11) DAYS WHILE THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN WE GOT IT BACK FROM THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS NO LONGER WORKING AND THE BRAKES WERE SQUEALING. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE GARAGE A WEEK AND A HALF LATER FOR THIS AND THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. IN THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST, WE NOTICED THAT THE OIL KEPT GOING LOW. ON AUGUST 14TH, 2008 WE HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE GARAGE BECAUSE THERE WAS HORRENDOUS, MASS AMOUNT OF OIL COLLECTING UNDER THE MOTOR. THE GARAGE KEPT MY CAR AGAIN, BECAUSE THE REAR MAIN CRANK SHAFT SEAL WENT IN THE ENGINE. THEY REPLACED THE REAR MAIN CRANK SHAFT SEAL, IT WAS IN THE GARAGE UNTIL AUGUST 21, 2008, ON THIS DAY WHEN WE PICKED THE CAR UP, WE HAD TO TAKE IT RIGHT BACK TO THE GARAGE BECAUSE IT WAS HESITATING TO START AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING HARD. THE GARAGE DETERMINED THAT WIRES WERE UNPLUGGED ON THE ENGINE. ON, SEPTEMBER 5TH WHILE LEAVING WORK THE CAR BROKE DOWN ON ME AGAIN, THIS TIME THE ENGINE BLEW IN THE CAR. THE CAR WAS IN THE GARAGE UNTIL SEPTEMBER 17TH, 2008, WHILE THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE. SO IN THE FEW MONTHS THAT I HAVE OWNED THE CAR IT HAS BEEN IN THE GARAGE FOR ALMOST A MONTH GETTING REPAIR AFTER REPAIR DONE TO IT. *TR
I WAS TURNING INTO A GAS STATION WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL ABRUPTLY JERKED OUT OF MY HAND. THE CENTER CONSOLE DISPLAY IN MY 2005 PONTIAC G6 GT NOTIFIED ME THAT MY POWER STEERING HAD GONE OUT. MY CAR HAS ONLY 45,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WORKED ON FOR SEVERAL HOURS BY A MECHANIC, HE STATED THAT IT NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE HE DID NOT HAVE THE PROPER EQUIPMENT TO FIX IT. UPON STARTING IT UP LATER THAT NIGHT, IT DROVE PROPERLY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM WITH THE POWER. *TR UPDATE (10/5/08): VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER BUT ABLE TO TURNE. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ENTIRE STEERING [COLUMN] ASSEMBLY UNDER A HIDDEN WARRANTY 7 YEAR 70,000 MILES. IT IS WORKING GREAT NOW.
WHEN I TURN THE IGNITION TO START MY CAR IT STALLS, PUTTERS AND AFTER A FEW TRIES IT WILL START. *TR
POWER STEERING ON MY 2005 PONTIAC G6 FAILS PERIODICALLY. TOOK IT TO DEALER WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG.. PROBABLY CAUSED BY "LOW" TIRE PRESSURE.. NOW THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE SAME PROBLEM IS HAPPENING.. CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE AND IT IS PERFECT... THIS PROBLEM HAS TO BE SOLVED.. I READ MANY ISSUES CONCERNING THIS AND I BELIEVE GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND PAY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED>>>>> I GOT A REPORT FROM A TECH ENGINEER WHO STATED THAT PONTIAC PUT THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING OUT PRIOR TO IT BEING FULLY TESTED>>>. *TR
I HAVE A FAULTY BRAKELIGHT SWITCH ON MY 2005 PONTIAC G6...THAT'S WHAT I WAS TOLD. THE LIGHTS FUNCTION JUST THE OPPOSITE AS THEY WERE DESIGNED. MY BRAKELIGHTS ARE ON WHEN I'M MOVING [DRIVING] AND THEY GO OFF WHEN I HIT MY BRAKES. I WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH AND FOUND OTHERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM ALL G6 OWNERS. I BELIEVE THIS COULD LEAD TO FATAL AND SERIOUS INJURIES. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. AT THIS TIME I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE DEALER TO RESPOND BACK IF THIS IS/WAS A RECALL. *TR
IN MAY 2008, MY FATHER WAS FOLLOWING ME TO MY NEW APARTMENT AND NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE REMAINING ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. HE NOTED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ON AFTER I HAD TAKEN MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND REMAINED ON THROUGH MANY STOPS AND ACCELERATIONS. I FIRST TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE ON APRIL 10, 2008. AT THAT TIME, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE OPERATING CORRECTLY AND THEY SENT ME HOME. THE SECOND TIME I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN, ON MAY 23, 2008 IT WAS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, WHICH CLEARLY EXISTED, DESPITE BEING TOLD THERE WAS NO ISSUE IN MAY. THIS TIME, THEY RECALIBRATED THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. YET AGAIN IN JUNE, MY FATHER WAS FOLLOWING ME AGAIN AND MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STILL REMAINING ON. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE THIRD TIME JUNE 25, 2008. THIS TIME, THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT POSITION SENSOR. I THEN NOTED IN RECENT WEEKS THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STILL NOT OPERATION PROPERLY, SO I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE FOURTH TIME ON OCTOBER 24, 2008 AND THEY REPLACED THE BPPS YET AGAIN. ONE DAY LATER, MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE BACK ON. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2005 PONTIAC G6 3 MOS AGO. THERE ARE 50K MILES ON THE CAR NOW. WITHIN A MONTH OF PURCHASING THE USED VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING WARNING APPEARS ON THE DISPLAY AND WITHIN THE NEXT 30 SECONDS, ALL POWER STEERING ABILITY IS LOST. THE MANUAL EXPLAINS TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND THE ALARM WILL GO AWAY. THIS DOES NOT WORK. I HAVE TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP WHICH IS VERY DIFFICULT AS IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE CAR. I HAVE TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTART THE CAR. IN ADDITION, THERE IS A POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I DID PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH THE CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED THE WARRANTY COMPANY AND THEY HAVE INSTRUCTED ME TO HAVE A MECHANIC CONTACT THEM ONCE THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WHICH I WILL BE DOING THIS WEEK. THE WARRANTY COMPANY WILL THEN LET ME KNOW IF THE PROBLEM IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
2005 PONTIAC G6 HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS, BRAKE PADS, AND ROTORS. *NJ THE DAY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO GET AN ALIGNMENT AND HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED. IN JUNE 2008, THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE MAKING A NOISE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE FRONT PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE WORN. THE SUNROOF HAD TO BE REPAIRED DUE TO A RATTLING NOISE IT WAS MAKING. AFTER THE SUNROOF WAS REPAIRED, IT BEGAN TO MAKE A DIFFERENT NOISE. A TECHNICIAN DETERMINED A PIPE HAD RUPTURED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE. THE CONSUMER THEN RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL REGARDING THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE LIGHTS AFTER ALREADY PAYING FOR A SENSOR THAT DIDN'T RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *JB
POWER STEERING FAILS SEEMINGLY WHEN IT'S VERY COLD, AS I LIVE IN OHIO. *TR
CLUNKING IN STEERING COLUMN , ENDED UP BEING THE STEERING COUPLER , IT HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE ONE AT 17K MILES , AND ONE AT 65K MILES ! NOW RACK AND PINION IS GOING OUT AT 68K MILES ! *TR
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE POWERSTEERING GOING OUT. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BUT WHEN BROUGHT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID IT CAME BACK ON THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THE LAST 3 DAYS IN A ROLL I HAVE HAD NO POWER STEERING AFTER DRIVING THE CAR 10 MINUTES. AND IT WON'T TURN ON UNTIL THE CAR SITS FOR AT LEAST 5 HOURS. ONLY TO GO OFF AGAIN AFTER TEN MINUTES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE SUN ROOF SHATTERED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS REGARDING THE SUN ROOF FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,018 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000. UPDATED 03-11-08 *BF
THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY '05 PONTIAC G6 (SEDAN) STAY ON ALL THE TIME. THEY WILL BRIEFLY GO OFF WHEN I USE THE BRAKES BUT THEN COME BACK ON. IN OTHER WORDS THEY WORK IN REVERSE. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE POSITION SWITCH REPLACED 2X'S AT THE DEALER (1/9/08 AND 9/9/08) AND ALSO COMPLETED A RECALL NOTICE (08317) THAT APPLIED DIELECTRIC LUBRICANT TO C2 CONNECTOR (5/22/09). I CONTINUE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2005 G6 GT IS EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING AND IT RANDOMLY FAILED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED, "POWER STEERING" WAS DISPLAYED ON THE CONSOLE, AND ALL POWER STEERING WAS LOST. LUCKILY I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR ELSE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MORE CATASTROPHIC AT HIGH SPEEDS OR IN A TURN. PONTIAC ISSUED A BULLETIN STATING THAT THEY HAVE IDENTIFIED AN ISSUE AND SHOULD ONLY BRING THE CAR IN FOR REPAIRS IF THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. THIS LOGIC IS UTTERLY RIDICULOUS. SHOULD A CAR COMPANY REQUIRE YOU TO HAVE A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE BEFORE THEY ACCEPT THAT A DANGEROUS DEFECT EXISTS IN THEIR PRODUCT? STEERING COLUMN BEING REPLACED NOW BUT SKEPTICISM IS HIGH. *TR UPDATE (10/14/08): DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AND CORRECTED THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE RACK AND PINION UNIT WAS REPLACED TWICE AND THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS LUBED ONCE AND REPLACED ONCE, BUT THEY WERE JUST MAKING NOISES AND DID NOT RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING.
RACK AND PINION GOING BAD TWICE WITHIN A ONE YEAR SPAN ON A PONTIAC G6. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. WITH 50000 MILES ON IT. IN DECEMBER 2007 ,THE CONTACT RECEIVED A WARNING NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER STATING THAT THE POWER STEERING MAY FAIL WITHOUT WARNING DUE TO ELECTRICAL INPUT SIGNALS IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT RECALL 10V073000 STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM AND SHE HAS NOT HAD ANY FAILURES TO DATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAS THE LETTER THAT SHE RECEIVED FROM THE MANUFACTURER IN 2007.
POWER STEERING LOSS WHEN ATTEMPTING PARKING OR MANEVUERS AT LOW SPEEDS. *TR
I HAVE A PONTIAC G6 2005 THAT I HAVE HAD SINCE APRIL 2005. STARTING THIS YEAR I NOTICED A RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING. I FOUND A TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) ABOUT IT STATING IT WAS A LUBRICATION PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS WHERE THE LUBRICATION WAS NEED YOU HAD TO TAKE THE STEERING APART TO LUBE IT. WHAT? IN OTHER WORDS THE WARRANT WOULD NOT COVERED THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WAS A LUBE PROBLEM. GREAT ENGINEERING. JUST STARTING THIS MONTH (DECEMBER 2007) I HAVE NOTICED MY STEERING HAS BEEN REALLY TIGHT TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS, FOR INSTANCE, WHEN LEAVING MY DRIVEWAY, AND INCREASING IN FREQUENCY. I STUMBLED ON THIS WEBSITE AND BECAME CURIOUS AND FOUND THAT SO MANY G6 OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND NEEDED THE SAME FIX. I HAVE A VERY GOOD QUESTION, "YOUR STEERING GIVES OUT WHILE DRIVING, IS THIS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE?" HOW IS IT THAT THIS IS NOT A RECALL PROBLEM YET? IS BECAUSE NO ONE WAS KILLED YET? IT APPEARS THE SENSOR IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED, BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR

SHE ALSO EXPERIENCED ROUGHNESS WHILE DRIVING, ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD, INDESCRIBABLE NOISE. LASTLY, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND HAD THE DRIVE-SHAFT REPLACED ALONG WITH A SENSOR IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPAIR, THE FAILURE RESURFACED. SPEED WAS NOT A FACTOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,100 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
I WAS DRIVING AND THE SERVICE VEHICLE (NOT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) CAME ON AND I LOST POWER STEERING ON MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING A CURVY ROAD WITH TRAFFIC. I NARROWLY MISSED GETTING INTO A VEHICLE TO VEHICLE ACCIDENT. I PARKED THE CAR, TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED TO FIND THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. I CONTINUED HOME AND THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. THE BELTS WERE INSPECTED AND THEY ARE FINE. THERE IS ALSO A CLUNKING NOISE AND FEELING IN THE STEERING WHEEL THAT GM SAYS IS NORMAL. IT IS NOT TO ME!!! *TR
2005 PONTIAC G6 GT: WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP, WE HAD THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR A LEAKING PANORAMIC ROOF. THE SECOND TIME IT LEAKED, THE DASH SHORTED OUT. THEN AT ABOUT 36,000 MILES WE STARTED HEARING POPPING NOISES WHEN STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS. AT AROUND 42,000 MILES THE POPPING NOISES GOT SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE. IT WAS AT THIS POINT, WE DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. THE MAN AT THE SERVICE DESK SEEMED TO KNOW RIGHT AWAY WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE WITHOUT EVEN DIAGNOSING IT. HE TOLD US THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM IN A LOT OF G6S. I ASKED HIM IF IT WAS SOMETHING TO WORRY ABOUT AND HE SAID NO. HE TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $550 TO FIX IT AND THAT THE COST WOULD BE ON ME AS I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY ON MILEAGE. AFTER I RETURNED HOME I DECIDED TO DO SOME SURFING ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE WAS EXPERIENCING G6 STEERING ISSUES. I FOUND PAGE AFTER PAGE OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR STEERING ISSUES. IN FACT, I NOTICED THAT THE NHTSA WAS EVEN INVESTIGATING GM FOR G6 POWER STEERING FAILURE AFFECTING SOME 176K VEHICLES. FRANKLY, THIS SCARED ME TO DEATH! SO MUCH SO, THAT THE VERY NEXT DAY I WENT DOWN TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND TRADED IN THE G6 FOR A 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L (5-STAR RATING). I TOOK IT IN THE SHORTS ON THE TRADE-IN, BUT I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW HAPPY I AM TO GET RID OF THIS NIGHTMARE! PARTING QUESTION: SINCE WHEN IS ?POWER STEERING FAILURE? NOT WORTHY OF A RECALL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. SHE STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION FAILED AND WAS REPLACED FOUR TIMES OVER A 14 MONTH PERIOD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, SHE HEARD A POPPING NOISE WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE RACK AND PINION WAS REPLACED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE FAILURE PERSISTED ON THREE ADDITIONAL OCCASIONS. SHE WAS AWAITING THE FOURTH RACK AND PINION REPLACEMENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGES WAS 56,123 AND THE CURRENT WAS MILEAGE WAS 89,036.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. WHENEVER THE CONTACT ACCELERATED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE. WHENEVER HE APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE WOULD NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. SPEED WAS NOT A FACTOR. I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING OF MY 2005 PONTIAC G6. IT HAS BEEN FIXED UNDER WARRANTY FOR GEAR ASSEMBLY 2 TIMES. SWAY BAR LINK. POPPING WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL. AND AGAIN AT 38,000 MILES IT IS DOING THE SAME ABOUT EVERY 10 MONTHS IT DOES THIS, I AM REALLY AFRAID THIS WILL CAUSE ME TO CRASH AND KILL MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN OR SOMEONE ELSE. I OWN A 2005 PONTIAC G-6 WITH ABOUT 60,000 MILES . BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND HAVE ONLY PUT ABOUT 10,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS A PANORAMIC SUNROOF THAT WAS WORKING FINE FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN GETS STUCK . MY FIRST PANEL IS OPEN.. WANTS TO WORK BUT LOOKS OUT OF LINE WITH THE OTHER PANELS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY THAT IT IS "COMING APART" AND THEY HAVE TO REPLACE IT . I DON'T HAVE AN EXT WARRANTY SO IM QUOTED $1,400 TO REPLACE THE WHOLE THING. WENT TO ANOTHER PLACE THEY SAY THAT SAME THING, I HAVE TO REPLACE IT. I AM ABOUT TO GET THIS THING FIXED FOR ABOUT $ 800 OR SO FOR A USED ONE. JUST RECENTLY I SPENT $700.00 REPLACING MY STEERING COLUMN DUE TO POWER STEERING FAILURE. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR LESS THAN 1 YR AND I HAVE HAD PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM WITH IT ! I HATE THIS CAR AND PLAN ON TRADING IT IN SOON.... *TR

TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THIS CAR HAS ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING AND THAT AT TIMES WHEN POWER STEERING IS BEING USED TOO MUCH (EXAMPLE IN A U TURN AND YOUR KEEPING IT IN THE POSITION FOR LONG TIME) THAT IT CAN GO OUT AND ?SHOULD? RETURN AFTER A FEW TURNS OR MOVEMENTS. LATER THEY FOUND OUT THEY HAD TO RESET THE STEERING COLUMN (RE-SYNCHRONIZED THE SENSORS THAT WERE OFF) CAR WORKED FINE FOR 1 WEEK. THEN .. . FINALLY THEY SAY THAT THE STEERING COLUMN HAS TO BE REPLACED AND ITS GOING TO COST 700.00. SINCE I HAVE DONE THAT I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE. NOW PONTIAC IS REIMBURSING FOR THE REPAIR. LEAVING WORK AS USUAL I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND BEGAN DRIVING HOME. WHILE ON RTE. 9 I NOTICED THAT I COULD NOT EASILY TURN TO THE RIGHT, AS IT FELT AS THOUGH I HAD LOST STEERING CONTROL ON THAT SIDE ONLY. HOWEVER STEERING TO THE LEFT THE WHEEL SEEMED TO OVER COMPENSATE AND DRAMATICALLY VEER LEFT. I CONTINUED TO CAREFULLY DRIVE AND SAFELY ARRIVED AT MY RESIDENCE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, AS I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE FROM LUNCH, I STARTED MY CAR WHEN I NOTICED THE DIC RED "POWER STEERING". I MADE MY WAY OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AND NOTICED THE STEERING WAS BARELY THERE. I IN-TURN HAD TO SHIFT MY WEIGHT TO TURN THE WHEEL OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AND NAVIGATE SEVERAL OTHER TURNS BACK TO THE OFFICE, A MILE AND A HALF AWAY. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN. THE STEERING CAME BACK UPON STARTING VEHICLE AGAIN AND THEY COULD DETECT NO PROBLEMS THROUGH THE DIAGNOSTICS. THE DEALER TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN AS WELL AS THE ELECTRIC MOTOR THAT GOES WITH IT. *JB
I HAVE A 2005 PONTIAC G6 AND ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING AS WELL. THE PROBLEMS FIRST BEGAN AROUND JULY 07, WHEN I WOULD PULL MY CAR OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD AUTOMATICALLY TURN TO THE LEFT AND WOULD VEER LEFT WHILE I WOULD DRIVE. THIS PROBLEM MADE IT DIFFICULT TO STEER STRAIGHT AND MAKE RIGHT HAND TURNS. IT WASN'T EVERYDAY THAT I HAD THIS PROBLEM BUT IT WOULD HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES JUST OUT OF THE BLUE. THE PROBLEMS DIDN'T END THERE, THE POWER STEERING EVENTUALLY WENT OUT AS IT DID WITH EVERYONE ELSE FILING A COMPLAINT. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, FOLLOWED BY THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETLY LOCKING UP ON ME AND THE WORDS "POWER STEERING" POPPING UP ON MY RADIO. THIS COMPLETLY WORRIED ME BECAUSE I HAD MY BABY IN THE CAR WITH ME AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT MORE WOULD HAPPEN. THIS IS COMPLETLY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE FIXED. AND I DON'T MEAN AT THE EXPENSE OF THE OWNERS, BECAUSE WITH MORE THAN 40 COMPLAINTS AND IM SURE MORE OUT THERE, THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM HERE. *TR

THE RACK AND PINION, AND POWER STEERING MOTOR WERE REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES. CONSEQUENTLY, WITHIN THE LAST TWO YEARS HE HAD TWO VEHICLE CRASHES. HE SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES IN BOTH INCIDENCES. HOWEVER DURING THE LAST CRASH, THE VEHICLE WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT HE WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD ONLY COVER THE RENTAL EXPENSES.THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
MY WIFE WAS ALMOST KILLED YESTERDAY WHEN THE STEERING LOCKED UP AT 50MPH+ WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. SHE HAS COMPLAINED OF STEERING ISSUES/NOISES/CONTROL IN THE PAST, BUT NEVER HAD IT LOCK UP COMPLETELY. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP, AND SHE WAS ALMOST HIT BY TWO DIFFERENT VEHICLES. THIS IS THE LAST OF DOUBLE DIGIT ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE POWER STEERING FAILURE IN THE PONTIAC G6 2005 SEDAN MODEL. THE PROBLEM HAS BEGUN TO HAPPEN VERY FREQUENTLY. IT FIRST HAPPENED BACKING OUT OF MY YARD. THEN BACKING OUT AT MY JOB. THE LIGHT COMES ON IN THE DASH AND ON THE RADIO SCREEN SHOWING A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING. I WAS NEARLY IN A ACCIDENT THIS PAST WEEK WHEN IT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. I'M GOING TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT THIS WEEK. I'VE SEEN SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. I'M AFRAID THAT SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN TO ME ON THE ROAD AGAIN AND I'LL BE UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY AND HAVE A SEVERE ACCIDENT.
POWER STEERING HAD BEEN FEELING VERY LOOSE FOR A FEW DAYS, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE DISPLAY "NOTED POWER STEERING". I ALMOST CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN THE STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED UP. I INITIALLY LOOKED TO SEE IF I NEEDED POWER STEERING FLUID, WHICH I COULD NOT FIND. I THEN LOOKED ON THE INTERNET TRYING TO FIND OUT WHERE TO PUT THE POWER STEERING FLUID FINDING OUT THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM AND DOES NOT TAKE POWER STEERING FLUID. UPON MY RESEARCH INTO WHERE TO PUT THE POWER STEERING FLUID I SAW AN ARTICLE INDICATING THAT THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION INTO A RECALL IN THIS REGARDS. AT THAT TIME I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE IT IS STILL UNDER MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. THE DEALER STILL HAS THE VEHICLE AND IS REPLACING THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE FIRST INSTANCE, I WAS ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY SPEED THE CAR CHIMED TWO TWICE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, A WARNING CAME ON THE INFORMATION CENTER, STATING POWER STEERING. AT THAT POINT I TRIED STEERING THE CAR TO ANOTHER LANE AND FOUND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY AT THE NEXT EXIT AND COMING TO A STOP I TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. TWO DAYS LATER I NOTICED THAT STEERING FROM CENTER POINT TO THE LEFT WAS EXTREMELY EASY. WHEN STEERING FROM CENTER POINT TO THE RIGHT THERE WAS HARDLY ANY ASSIST. NO WARNINGS WERE GIVEN DURING THIS PROBLEM. THIS CONDITION LASTED TWO DAYS. THIS EVENING I DROVE ABOUT THREE BLOCK AND MADE A LEFT HAND TURN AND THE WARNING CHIME CAME ON AND POWER STEERING WARNING OCCURRED AGAIN WITH A LOSS OF ALL STEERING ASSIST. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND IT PERFORMED NORMALLY UNTIL I HIT A BUMP AND THE SYSTEM FAILED AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES ON BUMPS. DRIVING BACK HOME IT FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED QUICKLY, ALMOST NO NOTICE, AND YOU HAD IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. A COUPLE OF TIMES I ALMOST WENT INTO THE WRONG LANE FROM LOSS OF ASSIST. THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO STEER WITHOUT THE ASSIST. *AK
SUDDEN POWEER STEERING LOSS. USUALLY WHEN PARKING, RESULTING IN INCREASED STEERING EFFORT. THE CAR IS A PONTIAC G6. 2005. DEALER CLAIMSED THISWAS A NORMAL CONDITION ON MODELS WITH ELECTRIC STEERING. *AK UPDATE (10/13/08): PONTIAC G6 HAS ELECTRIC STEERING. THE LOSS OF POWER CAME ON SUDDENLY AND WITH NO WARNING. IF I WAITED A FEW MINUTES IT WOULD RETURN THEN GO OUT AGAIN. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS NORMAL FOR THIS TO HAPPEN WITH ELECTRIC STEERING. I GOT NO SATISFACTION FROM THE DEALER AND THE REGIONAL REP. WOULDN'T EVEN REPLY TO MY COMPLAINT .OUT OF FRUSTRATION I TRADED THE CAR IN ON A DIFFERENT BRAND. OBVIOUSLY I LOST MONEY AND TO THIS DAY I AM STILL ANGRY. HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS THAT STARTED OUT INTERMITTENTLY TURNING LEFT ONLY. FINALLY HAD TOTAL FAILURE WHICH ACTIVATED THE SERVICE LIGHT. PULLING OFF THE ROAD AND RESTARTING VEHICLE WOULD RESET THE FAILURE. VISITED PONTIAC DEALER ON 06/21/07 AND THEY DIDN'T TRY TO FIX IT BECAUSE THE LAST FAILURE WAS 2 WEEKS PRIOR AND IT WAS STORED AS A HISTORY CODE. THE VERY NEXT DAY (06/22/07) THE FAILURE RECURRED EXCEPT A RESTART WILL NO LONGER RESET THE POWER STEERING. MOST FAILURES OCCURRED WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPS WERE BETWEEN 74 AND 78 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. I CONSIDER THIS ISSUE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THE POWER ASSIST GOES AWAY UNEXPECTEDLY. *TR

I OWN A 2005 PONTIAC G6 GT. IN JUNE, AS I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A STATE HWY., I NOTICED MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY LOOSE. AS I TURNED A CURVE IN THE ROAD, I COMPLETELY LOST MY POWER STEERING. THE ICON ON THE DASH CAME ON AND THE MESSAGE "POWER STEERING" SHOWED UP ON MY MENU SCREEN. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE HOME. IT WAS A STRUGGLE TO TURN ON THE SIDE STREET AND INTO MY DRIVEWAY. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I STARTED IT UP, THE STEERING WAS FINE. I DROVE IT IN TO WORK AND CALLED THE GM DEALERSHIP. WHEN MY HUSBAND WENT OUT TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. AS LONG AS IT WAS DRIVEN SLOW, IT WAS DIFFICULT BUT MANAGEABLE. THE DEALERSHIP FIRST RE-CALIBRATED THE TORQUE SENSOR. THAT WORKED FOR A FEW DAYS. WE THEN HAD TO TAKE IT BACK IN WHEN THE STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. AT THAT TIME, THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR ASSEMBLY COSTING $444.13. THAT WORKED FOR 2 MONTHS AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. IT WENT OUT AND I WAS TRYING TO TURN ONTO ANOTHER STREET. IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANAGE THE TURN. I HAD TO SLOW WAY DOWN. WHEN I DID THE CAR BEHIND ME CAME VERY CLOSE TO HITTING ME. I WAS FORTUNATE NOTHING HAPPENED. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR. THIS IS LOCATED IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND WOULD NORMALLY BE APPROX. $600+ TO FIX. SINCE WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD THE CAR SERVICED THERE AND HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM JUST A FEW MONTHS EARLIER, THEY OFFERED TO REPAIR IT FOR $100. SO FAR IT WORKS. *TR

ON JUNE 5TH, 2007 I HAVE RECEIVED WARNING (DASH INFO SYSTEM) ABOUT POWER STEERING FAILURE IN MY CAR. IN HAPPENED TWICE DURING THE DAY. WARNING IS NOT ON TODAY, JUNE 6TH 2007, BUT I WILL BE GOINT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 06/08/07 TO SEE IF ANYTHING COULD BE DONE TO ELIMINATE THE FAILURE. UPDATE PHONE LOG: THE STEERING WAS A LITTLE TIGHT; THE DEALER DID SOMETHING AND FIXED IT. NO REPAIR INVOICE WAS GIVEN.

I DO NOT NOW WHEN THIS BEGAN, NOR DO I KNOW WHAT IT IS MORE SPECIFICALLY THAN THE BRAKES ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO PRESS DOWN IN ORDER TO SHIFT GEARS AND I CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM.
