GM HAS STATED THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON ALL G6'S FROM 2005, HOWEVER I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND THEY SAY MY CAR IS NOT UNDER THE RECALL. MY POWER STEERING HAS HAD ISSUES SINCE ABOUT A MONTH OR TWO AFTER PURCHASING IT FROM A DEALERSHIP THAT TOLD ME IT HAD BEEN SAFETY INSPECTED. I WANT TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED, BUT IT COSTS ABOUT 700.00 AND GM WONT FIX IT. WHAT DO I DO?? IN MICHIGAN WINTERS, THE POWER STEERING IS THE LAST THING YOU WANT TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH, ESPECIALLY WHEN TRANSPORTING MY TWO YEAR OLD SON. *TR
I WAS FOLLOWING MY WIFE LAST MIGHT IN 2005 PONTIAC G6 GT. I NOTICED HER BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES, HER BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD GO OFF. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD TO FOLLOW HER IN HER CAR, I DO NOT NOW HOW LONG THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON. SHE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW, IT IS A ONE OWNER SO I KNOW NO ONE HAS MESSED WITH ANY OF THE PARTS/WIRES. I STARTED LOOKING ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND NOTICED THERE WERE SEVERAL PAGES ON THIS SITUATION. ALSO, THAT THERE WERE RECALLS IN THE PAST. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT A RECALL. IS THIS SOMETHING THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD FIX OR ARE WE STUCK TRYING TO FIX THIS ISSUE? *TR
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO STOP WHEN THE ACCELERATOR STUCK AND THREW US FORWARD WHICH RESULTED IN US RUNNING INTO SOME CEMENT PILLARS. I HAD TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAR UP TO THE RADIATOR WAS CRUNCHED. I AM THANKFUL THAT WE HIT THE CEMENT PILLARS AN NOT ANOTHER CAR OR PERSON, BUT AM DEFINITELY WORRIED ABOUT IT NOT BEING FIXED PROPERLY AND HAPPENING AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION EMITTED A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WITH EXTREME HESITATION. THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
I WAS JUST LEAVING WORK WHEN I HEARD A CHIME AND I LOOKED AT MY DASH BOARD AND NOTICED A YELLOW CAR WITH A WRENCH IN IT. I THEN FELT MY STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP AND BECAME HARD TO STEER. I THEN LOOKED AT MY RADIO AND IT SAID POWER STEERING. I HAD TO DRIVE 6 MILES HOME WITH NO POWER STEERING. I KNEW I COULD STILL DRIVE WITH THIS PROBLEM BUT KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE DIFFICULT. I THEN FIGURED OUT THAT THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING FLUID WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE AND WAS ELECTRONIC. VERY DANGERS AND VERY HARD TO MAKE 90 DEGREE TURNS BUT MADE IT HOME SAFE. *TR
HAPPENED 2X'S IN THE LAST 3 DAYS. FIRST COMING IN TO THE DRIVE WAY OF MY HOUSE. POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. CAR COASTED IN TO STOP. NO ISSUE SINCE IN MY DRIVEWAY. TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED. STEERING WORKED. CALLED DEALER MADE APPOINTMENT FOR 11/29. IN ROUTE TO THE DEALERSHIP. AT A STOP READY TO TURN ON TO TRAFFIC. AS I ACCELERATED THE STEERING DIED.. HAD TO STRUGGLE TO MAKE THE TURN. TOLD THE DEALER. RECEIVED A CALL THAT THIS WILL BE COVERED EVEN THOUGH AT FIRST HE SAID IT WOULD NOT BE. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE HERE. THIS CAR IS DRIVEN BY MY DAUGHTER FOR LONG DISTANCE AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THANK GOD IT HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY NOT ON A HIGHWAY OR IN MOVING TRAFFIC WHILE SHE DROVE IT. BUT IT DID HAPPEN TO ME. WHILE SITTING AT A STOPLIGHT ON 11/28/13 THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, AS I PROCEEDED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN I COULDN'T, IT SEEMED AS THO MY STEERING WHEEL HAD FROZE! IMMEDIATELY A MESSAGE CAME ACROSS MY MESSAGE BOARD THAT SAID POWER STEERING AND THEN A SYMBOL OF A CAR WITH A WRENCH INSIDE OF IT APPEARED ON MY DASH IN THE LEFT CORNER. OF COURSE I PANICKED BECAUSE THE CAR BEHIND ME STARTED BLOWING THE HORN. I MANAGED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MUCH DIFFICULTY AND PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. I PULLED OUT MY MANUAL AND FOUND OUT THAT I HAD ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ! I HAD TO FIND SOMEONE TO DISCONNECT MY BATTERY TO SEE IF IT WOULD RESET ITSELF WHICH IT DID, SO THAT I COULD GET HOME. ONCE AT HOME I WENT ON-LINE TO SEE WHAT KIND OF INFORMATION THAT I COULD FIND ON THE EPS AND IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM. I WAS SHOCKED AT WHAT I FOUND ! LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM IN 2010 THAT DID NOT INCLUDE MY MAKE. SEEING THAT THIS IS A DOCUMENTED DEFECT I FEEL LIKE GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE REPAIRS AS WELL. THIS IS A VERY CRITICAL MATTER ! I FEEL LIKE MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE THEREFORE I HAVE TO FIND OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION TO GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR CAR AND THE POWER STEERING JUST STOPPED WORKING. IT LOCKED UP AND GOOD THING THAT SHE WAS DRIVING SLOW BECAUSE SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP BUT IF SOMEONE WAS NEXT TO HER THEN SHE WOULD HAVE NO WAY TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. *TR
FOR THE PAST 2 WEEKS MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN LOCKING UP WHILE DRIVING IN MY STREET. FOR EXAMPLE TODAY IT DID SO, AND THEN IT STALLED AND WAS FOLLOWED BY THE "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE DISPLAYING ON THE RADIO, ALONG WITH WRENCH ICON ON THE DASH. THIS IS REALLY SCARY AND NEEDS TO BE ATTENDED TO. ANOTHER ISSUE THAT OCCURS, IS THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WILL MOVE BY ITSELF FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. IT WILL EVEN DO THIS WHEN IN PARK. PLEASE MAKE A RECALL FOR THIS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND SUDDENLY THE POWER STEERING LIGHT POPPED UP ON MY MONSOON RADIO. AT THE SAME TIME MY POWER STEERING INSTANTLY WENT OUT CAUSING ME TO MOMENTARILY LOSE CONTROL OF MY CAR. WELL DRIVING ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS NOW THE POWER STEERING HAS COMPLETELY WENT OUT ON US . TO THE POINT WHERE WE HAD TO STOP THE CAR , TURN IT OFF AND RESTART IT . AND TODAY IT LOCKED UP WHERE WE COULDN'T EVEN TURN THE WHEEL AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT , GM REALLY NEEDS TO RECALL THE 2005 G6 FOR THIS STEERING ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED . WE CARRY PRECIOUS CHILDREN IN THIS CAR AND WITH OVER 300 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE WHEN ARE THEY GONNA WAKE UP AND RECALL JUST AS THEY HAVE DONE FOR THE 2006 .. I WAS IN THE LEFT HAND TURNING LANE AND I STARTED TO TURN AND I LOST ALL MY POWER STEERING. I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN RIGHT OR LEFT. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THERE WAS A PARKING LOT TO MY RIGHT THAT I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO AFTER I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE TURN. AFTER I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE, I TURNED IT BACK ON AND EVERYTHING SEAMS TO BE WORK NOW. IT HAS A ELECTRIC POWER STEERING UNIT SO THERE IS NO FLUID TO CHECK. I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND READ MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAME THING HAPPENING. IF I WAS NOT SO LUCKY I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY A CAR BEHIND ME OR COMING SOME OTHER DIRECTION. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE NOT BEING DEPRESSED AND WOULD SHUT OFF WHEN THE BRAKES WERE BEING DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 70MPH WHEN MY CAR JUST DECIDED TO SHUT OFF. I LOST ALL BRAKES AND POWER STEERING. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOW POWER TO MY CAR MAKING IT VERY HARD TO CONTROL UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000. *TR
DETERIORATED/CRACKED ELBOW ON FUEL MODULE ASSEMBLY CAUSED FUEL TO POOL ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. SEVERE FUEL VAPOR SMELL NOTICEABLE IN ENCLOSED GARAGE, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN IGNITED BY GAS WATER HEATER. FUEL ALSO COULD HAVE IGNITED WHILE DRIVING, IF IT HAD COME IN CONTACT WITH THE MUFFLER. RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE G6. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE AROUND THE PERIMETER OF IT THAT IS VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN NEAR THE CAR. VEHICLE JUST RECENTLY WAS INSPECTED FOR EMISSIONS AND PASSED THE CALIFORNIA SMOG CHECK. THE SMOG CHECK TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE INSPECTED FURTHER. I FOUND ONLINE THAT OTHER PONTIAC G6 OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I HAVE CONTACTED GM PONTIAC CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY HAVE NOT INDICATED ONE WAY OR THE OTHER IF THEY WILL PAY FOR REPAIR AS THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP GILROY CADILLAC CHEVROLET HAS ORDERED PART AND IS GOING TO REPAIR AND INDICATED COST OF >$1,100.00 THEY SAID THAT A PLASTIC ELBOW FITTING ON OUTSIDE OF FUEL TANK IS CRACKED AND SPRAYING GASOLINE ON TOP OF FUEL TANK AND THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL PUMP MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. FUEL PUMP IS FUNCTIONING AND CAR RUNS FINE, WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT IT IS A FIRE HAZARD! *TR
YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE COLUMN MAKES NOISES AND GOING DOWN THE ROAD THE WHEEL ON PASSENGER SIDE FEELS LIKE IT IS SHAKING ...I TOOK IT THE SHOP AND HE SAID IT WOULD DO NO GOOD TO CHANGE THE COLUMN BECAUSE IT WOULD GO BAD IN A FEW MONTHS THESE CARS ARE KNOWN FOR THAT...AND SOMETIMES WHEN I TURN MY KEY TO START THE CAR IT IS LIKE IT STAYS ON LIKE I'M TRYING TO START IT AND I'M NOT TOUCHING THE KEY THEN IT GOES OFF. *TR

THE POWER STEERING WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE RADIO DISPLAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000. *TR
STEERING CLUNKS DURING LEFT TURNS. WAS TOLD THIS IS CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. *TR
GEAR SHIFT WILL NOT SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE WITHOUT EXCESSIVE FORCE ON THE BRAKES, BRAKE LAMPS STUCK ON/OFF WHEN BRAKE IS NOT DEPRESSED, AND/OR ON WHEN IT IS DEPRESSED. *TR
WAS WAITING AT STOP SIGN TO TURN RIGHT AND HEARD THE WARNING BELL WITH POWER STEERING IN THE LED MENU DISPLAY. ALL POWER ASSIST WAS LOST AT THAT VERY MOMENT. UPON RETURNING HOME I RESTARTED THE CAR AND POWER ASSIST WAS WORKING AGAIN. AFTER READING THROUGH TSB COMPLAINTS I'M SURE IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN THROUGH THE STICKING BRAKE LATE ISSUE LAST YEAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS, A CLANKING AND GRINDING NOISE WAS PRESENT WHEN MAKING A RIGHT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION AND INTERMEDIATE SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
I HAVE BEEN SMELLING GAS FROM VEHICLE BUT DID NOT NOTICE LEAK. DID NOTICE LOWER MILES PER GALLON. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR BRAKES AND MECHANIC INFORMED ME I WAS LUCKY THE CAR HADN'T CAUGHT ON FIRE. TOOK PICTURES OF GAS POOL ON TANK. THE FUEL PUMP ELBOW IS CRACKED AND THE ENTIRE UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. FUEL/GASOLINE IS LEAKING OUT. HEAVY RAW GASOLINE SMELL WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF. WHEN AIR CONDITIONER IS TURNED ON IT MAKES A CONTINUOUS CLICKING NOISE. *TR
MY PONTIAC G6 IS REPORTEDLY RECALLED FOR A FAULTY POWER STEERING SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM HAS BEEN FAULTY FOR AT LEAST A YEAR WITH A WARNING SIGN DISPLAYING ON MY CONTROL SECTION OF MY CAR. I ALSO EXPERIENCED A POWER STEERING LOSS LAST NOVEMBER 2013 ON MY WAY TO WORK AND I COULD NOT TURN THE CAR WITHOUT USING LOTS OF PHYSICAL FORCE WHICH TERRIFIED ME, AT THE TIME. I DID NOT KNOW OF THE G6 PROBLEMS AT THE TIME AND I TOOK IT INTO MY AUTO MECHANIC AFTER WORK BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SHOWING WHEN HE EXAMINED IT. IT DOES NOT APPEAR ALL THE TIME AND I ONLY LOST POWER ON THE ONE OCCASION. I CONTACTED A PONTIAC REPRESENTATIVE OVER A MONTH AGO AND COMPLETED THE QUESTIONS HE ASKED. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO NOTIFY ME WHEN THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARRIVED TO FIX MY VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM AND I WORRY EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY VEHICLE THAT IT WILL LOCK UP AGAIN. *TR
THE DATE OF THE INCIDENT IS NOT THE FIRST INCIDENT...ONLY ONE OF THEM. THE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN ONGOING. FOR SOME TIME NOW, I HAVE EXPERIENCED TROUBLE OFF AND ON WITH TAKING THE GEAR OUT OF PARK. THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME, BUT WHEN IT DOES, I HAVE TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES REAL HARD FOR IT TO RELEASE AND LET ME MOVE THE GEAR STICK. ALSO EXPERIENCED OUR CRUISE CONTROL DIDN'T WORK WHEN ON VACATION IN FLORIDA IN MAY 2013. HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON THEN. THINKING BACK ON IT NOW, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE PROBABLY ACTING UP DURING THAT TIME! RECENTLY, THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS BEEN WORKING. CLEARLY AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. I'VE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE TELL ME AFTER FOLLOWING ME, THAT I'M "RIDING" MY BRAKES AND WHEN I STOP, THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF! I AM FINDING THAT THIS IS HAPPENING ALL THE TIME NOW. TRYING TO CONTACT OUR GM DEALERSHIP, WHICH KNOWS NOTHING OF A PAST RECALL. CONTACTED THE NATIONAL GM AND THEY HAVE NO "ACTIVE" RECALL FOR MY CAR. COPIED IT OFF THE WEBSITE ALONG WITH OTHERS' SAME COMPLAINTS WITH THE REMEDY TO THE PROBLEM TO PRESENT TO OUR LOCAL GM SERVICE DEPARTMENT. WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS DEFECT IF I WANT IT FIXED. I'M AFRAID TO EVEN DRIVE IT NOW WITH MY LIGHTS WORKING BACKWARDS!! THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR FOR 8 YEARS WITH THIS BEING THE ONLY PROBLEM THAT I'VE HAD. NEED HELP WITH GETTING THIS PAST RECALL REACTIVATED AND PAID FOR BY GM. ASKING FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIR IF AND WHEN THE RECALL IS REACTIVATED AFTER I'VE HAD IT FIXED. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE. HAD TO SHUT VEHICLE OFF AND START AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE STEERING WOULD FUNCTION AGAIN. HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 6 TIMES IN THE LAST 2.5 WEEKS, WITH SEVERITY OF THE ISSUE INCREASING (TAKES MORE RESTARTS TO RESOLVE ISSUE). *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE LAMPS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT BEING DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS BEING DEPRESSED. THE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO DID NOT ENGAGE AND ABRUPT FORCE WAS REQUIRED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED TO BE DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING) BUT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. IN APRIL 2013, WHILE DRIVING THE 2005 PONTIAC G6, THE WHEEL BEGAN "JERKING" AROUND, AND IT BECAME HARDER TO CONTROL AND STEER THE VEHICLE. A CHIME, AND WARNING LIGHT APPEARED "POWER STEERING". AFTER VEERING OFF TO THE SHOULDER AND AND RE-STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE PROBLEM DID NOT REAPPEAR. AFTER THE SECOND RE-START, THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED AND WAS INCREASED- INCREASED STRENGTH TO STEER, WARNING LIGHT ON. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT LOCALLY OWNED SHOP, IT WAS LEARNED THAT PONTIAC WAS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND HAD ISSUED A SPECIAL COVERAGE FOR THE PROBLEM. AFTER TAKING IT TO A PONTIAC CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP, THEY REPAIRED THE PROBLEM, AT MY COST OF $780.00, DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY MILEAGE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE SPECIAL COVERAGE PERIMETERS. I WAS ISSED A LETTER OUTLINING THE PROBLEM,AND SPECIAL COVERAGE PERIMETERS IN JUNE 2012, AT WHICH TIME I WAS WELL WITHIN THE MILEAGE AND YEAR PERIMTERS LISTED, BUT WAS NOT EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. I DID NOT SEEK REPAIR ASSISTANCE, AS IT INDICATED FOR OWNERS WHO WERE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM ONLY TO SEEK REPAIR ASSISTANCE, AND IT WOULD BE COVERED AT NO CHARGE. I EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM 9 MONTHS LATER, IN EXACTLY THE WAY DESCRIBED IN THE LETTER, AND WAS DENIED COVERAGE DUE TO A HIGHER MILEAGE THAN OUTLINED 9 MONTHS PRIOR. LOOSING CONTROL OF YOUR STEERING WHILE GOING DOWN A 2-LANE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH SEEMS TO BE MORE OF A SAFETY CONCERN, THAN A GENERAL SPECIAL COVERAGE PROBLEM. DESPITE THE AMOUNTS OF AFFECTED VEHICLES WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, IT IS DISSAPOINTING THAT PONTIAC IS NOT TAKING CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS IN A MORE FORMAL, RECALL WAY, AND INSTEAD TREATING IT AS A CASUAL COMPLIANT. AFTER CALLING THE 1-800 FOR GM, I WAS INFORMED OF NO FURTHER ASSITANCE, OR ANY INDICATION THAT A RECALL WOULD SOON BE ISSUED. *TR

MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP WHEN IM DRIVING AT RANDOM TIMES THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK IT IS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND TURN OF THE CAR THEN TURN IT BACK ON' I'VE HAD NEAR ACCIDENT INCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS AND I CONTACTED THE DEALER SHIP AND THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. *TR
THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY 2005 PONTIAC G6 DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. AT TIMES, THEY WILL TURN ON WHEN I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND THEY WILL ALSO JUST COME ON RANDOMLY. NINE TIMES OUT OF TEN WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL THEY DON'T COME ON AT ALL. AFTER TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY BRAKE SENSOR. THEY REPLACED IT, I PAID MY EXTREMELY HIGH BILL AND THEN THE NEXT DAY I GOT PULLED OVER BY A POLICE OFFICER BECAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID TO BRING MY CAR BACK IN. I TOOK MY CAR BACK AND THEY SAID THERE WAS CORROSION IN THE BRAKE LINES. THEY FIXED THAT, I PAID MY EXTREMELY HIGH BILL AND LEFT. A FEW DAYS LATER, MY BRAKE LIGHTS STILL DID NOT WORK. I EVEN TOOK MY G6 IN FOR THE RECALL ABOUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS. THAT DIDN'T WORK FOR LONG EITHER! I TRIED TO PUT DIELECTRIC GREASE WHERE PONTIAC IS CLAIMING THERE IS CORROSION CAUSING THE BRAKES TO SELDOM WORK. THEY WORKED FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS AND JUST RECENTLY MY BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. I HAVE HAD MY CAR LOOKED AT BY THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND NO ONE CAN GIVE ME AN ANSWER OR A SOLUTION. I'VE BEEN PULLED OVER FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS DUE TO THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE. WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING PROPERLY, MY CAR IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. MY GRANDMA OWNS THIS CAR, WHEN I VISITED THIS WEEK THERE WAS A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GAS IN HER GARAGE. SHE TOLD ME IT HAS BEEN PRESENT FOR MORE THAN 6 MONTHS. I IMMEDIATELY HAD HER OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR AND MADE AN APPT WITH A MECHANIC. IT WAS THE CRACKED ELBOW ON THE FUEL PUMP THAT HAD BEEN CONTINUOUSLY LEAKING GAS ONTO THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED, WHICH COST MORE THAN $700. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE MECHANIC AND A SIMPLE COMPUTER SEARCH I REALIZED THAT GM IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT GM ALLOWED THIS TO GO UNANNOUNCED. SHE RUNS A KILN IN HER GARAGE AT HEATS OVER 1800. SHE HAD ESSENTIALLY A BOWL OF FUEL SITTING ON HER GAS TANK FOR OVER 6MO. WHILE SHE DROVE AND WHILE IT WAS CLOSED IN HER GARAGE. THANK GOD SHE'S SAFE, BECAUSE IT WAS NO THANKS TO GM. *JS
STOPPED AT TRAFFIC INTERSECTION AND FELT A SLIGHT VIBRATION, THEN TWO CHIMES ALERT ON DIC DISPLAY, WITH MESSAGE "POWER STEERING". ATTEMPTED TO STEER WHEEL BUT SIMPLY COULD NOT TURN. PUT CAR IN PARK, TURNED IGNITION OFF/ON. POWER STEERING RESUMED. WILL CONTACT DEALERSHIP TO BRING IN FOR SERVICE. ALREADY KNEW THERE WAS A RISK THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN. ALSO NOTE THAT FOR PAST WEEK, BOTH MY WIFE AND I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED MORE SLUGGISH - NO PLAY IN WHEEL. *TR
AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, I NOTICED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE SALES STAFF AND WAS TOLD THAT, DUE TO THE PRICE I WAS PAYING, THERE WAS "NO ROOM LEFT TO REPAIR SOMETHING NOT SAFETY RELATED". THIS WAS AGREEABLE TO ME, SO I LEFT IT AT THAT. I DROVE THE CAR FOR SEVERAL MONTHS WITH NO OTHER APPARENT ISSUES. SOME TIME LATER I FOLLOWED MY WIFE IN OUR OTHER VEHICLE WHILE SHE DROVE THE PONTIAC. I WITNESSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON DURING TIMES WHEN THE LIGHTS SHOULD NOT BE ON. PULLING UP TO A STOP, I WITNESSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OUT. BASICALLY, THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT BEING APPLIED, AND GO OUT WHEN THE PEDAL IS BEING APPLIED. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE, BUT A RECALL ISSUE. AFTER CONTACTING GM, I WAS TOLD THIS IS NOT PART OF THEIR VERY LIMITED RECALL AS "THE RECALL IS VIN SPECIFIC". *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT A FUSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
WE PUT NEW TIRES HAD ALIGNMENT DONE WITHIN DAYS STARTED HAVING ISSUES WHERE IT FEELS LIKE THE TIRES LOOSE GRIP FROM THE ROAD. PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES WENT AN HAD THEM ROTATED THE NEXT DAY AFTER TAKING OFF FROM A STOP WHEN IT SHIFTS FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR THE STEERING JERKS TO THE LEFT. TOOK IT BACK GARAGE CHECKED EVERYTHING CANT FIND ANYTHING. ALSO HAVE SEAT BELT LIGHT ON EVEN WHEN SEAT BELT IS ON HAD FUEL LEAK AT NECK OF SPOUT. *TR

MY PROBLEM FIRST STARTED WHEN TRYING TO PARK , THE STEERING WAS VERY HARD. THEN THE NEXT TIME I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND WAS UNABLE TO TURN. THEN YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING AROUND 45 MPH AND LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. I HAD THE STEERING REPLACED ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGAIN AT THE COST OF OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS. I SMELLED A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GAS AS I WALKED UP TO MY CAR. THE CHECK GAS CAP DISPLAY CAME ON. I REPLACED THE GAS CAP AND WARNING IS STILL DISPLAYED. THE SMELL OF GAS HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN AND SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE GAS TANK. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE CAR IS RUNNING OR NOT. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND MANY OWNERS OF THE SAME YEAR AND MAKE CAR ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM HOWEVER, NOBODY HAS FOUND THE EXACT CAUSE. SUGGESTIONS HAVE BEEN TO CHECK EVAPORATIVE SOLENOID, GASKETS, TUBING TO AND FROM TANK. I'VE DONE ALL AND THE ODOR CONTINUES TO WORSEN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AND MAKING A TURN, THE POWER STEERING WARNING COMES ON THE RADIO DISPLAY AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CHIMES. STEERING COLUMN HAS LOCKED UP THREE TIMES WHILE TURNING INTO PARKING PLACES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I LOSE TOTAL CONTROL OF MY STEERING ABILITY. THE MESSAGE SCREEN SAYS POWER STEERING FAILURE AND THE CAR NOTIFIES ME WITH A SIGNALING SOUND THEN THE YELLOW SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON WITH THE WRENCH. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AFTER MANUALLY MANIPULATING THE STEERING WHEEL AS MUCH AS I CAN INTO PLACE IN THE PARKING LOCATION. THEN WHEN I START THE CAR BACK UP THE POWER STEERING WORKS, THE INDICATORS ARE OFF AND THE CAR DRIVES FINE. I DO CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID LEVELS AND THIS HAS NEVER BEEN A FACTOR AS THE FLUID LEVELS WERE ADEQUATE. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT SIMILAR ISSUES BUT LUCKILY MINE HAS NOT RESULTED IN A MAJORS INCIDENCE SO FAR. *TR
