TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS REPLACED. ONE MONTH LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS SWITCHED BY THE DEALER A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
WHILE SLOWING FOR A STOP SIGN, THE STEERING ALARM SOUNDED, AND WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER STOPPING AT THE STOP SIGN, I PROCEEDED ACROSS THE INTERSECTION, AND PULLED TO THE CURB. STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT. AFTER CHECKING BELTS AND POWER STEERING FLUID, I RESTARTED ENGINE AND STEERING WAS FINE..A SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED TWO DAYS LATER, BUT LUCKILY I WAS IN AN EMPTY PARKING LOT. I TURNED OFF ENGINE, THEN RESTARTED AND STEERING WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. KNOWING THIS WILL LIKELY OCCUR AGAIN, POSSIBLY ON A CURVE, AT HIGH SPEED OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, IT APPEARS TO BE A SERIOUS, AND POSSIBLY DEADLY DEFECT. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN UNTIL I CAN AFFORD TO HAVE IT REPAIRED OR FIND OUT IF GM WILL FIX THEIR BLUNDER. I STARTED MY CAR THIS MORNING ON THE WAY TO WORK AS ALWAYS. BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY HALF INTO THE TURN LANE AND MY STEERING LOCKED UP. MY RADIO SAID "POWER STEERING" AND I COULDN'T MOVE THE WHEEL WITHOUT NEARLY ALL OF MY WEIGHT ON IT. I LIVE ON A MAIN STREET SO CARS WERE COMING BY SWERVING TO MISS ME AT ABOUT 45 MPH. I WAS ALREADY HALF IN THE TURN LANE TO MAKE A U-TURN SO GETTING BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY SAFELY WASN'T AN OPTION. I WAS ABLE TO GET HELP TO PUSH THE CAR INTO THE DRIVEWAY; WHEN I THEN TURNED OFF THE CAR THEN BACK ON THE LIGHT WAS GONE AND IT SEEMED FINE. ALTHOUGH I DIDN'T RISK DRIVING IT TO WORK. KNOWING THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN RANDOMLY AT ANY MOMENT. DOES NOT MAKE ME FEEL SAFE IN ANYWAY SHAPE OR FORM. I UNDERSTAND THAT DRIVING ISN'T ALL THAT SAFE TO START WITH. BUT IT'S THE OTHER CARS ON THE RODE I SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT GETTING ME IN AN ACCIDENT NOT MY OWN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WALKED NEAR THE VEHICLE AND SMELLED GASOLINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK AND AS A RESULT, THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT RECALL ON HER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
THE BRAKE LAMPS ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS NOT BEEN DEPRESSED, OR THE LAMPS MAY NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. *TR
THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL STAY ON AFTER I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL, THERE ARE ALSO TIMES THEY DO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN I HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS SHIFTING OUT OF PARK. I HAVE TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD FOR MY CAR TO SHIFT. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL NOT ENGAGING WHEN I TRIED TO TURN IT ON. I HIT THE BUTTON FOR CRUISE & THE LIGHT JUST FLASHES BACK OFF INSTEAD OF STAYING ON LIKE IT SHOULD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A ROAD IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND REALIZED MY CAR BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER. THEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED ACROSS MY DASH AND RADIO STATING "POWER STEERING". I STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A DRIVEWAY AND TURN OFF MY CAR TO RESET IT. I AM SO GLAD THAT A LITTLE KID OR SOMETHING DIDN'T RUN OUT IN FRONT OF ME AS I WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO STEER AROUND AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION HAD TO BE STARTED THREE TIMES BEFORE THE ENGINE BEGAN TO OPERATE. A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL EMITTED INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE ALSO RECURRED SPORADICALLY WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC REPAIRED THE VEHICLE FOR AN UNRELATED REPAIR AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKAGE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
GM SPUTTER START. IF IT DOES START IT SOMETIMES DOESN'T START ON THE FIRST TRY AND SOMETIMES CATCHES AND SPUTTERS BEFORE IT STARTS. I HAVE TO KEEP THE GAS PUSHED SO IT WILL CATCH AND START. LIKE THE IDLE NEEDS ADJUSTED OR SOMETHING. *TR
WE STARTED SMELLING GAS IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT A FEW WEEKS BEFORE 8-27-12 AND COULD NOT LOCATE THE GAS LEAK. THEN ON SUNDAY 8-26-12 MY DAUGHTER DROVE UP AND THE SMELL OF GAS WAS OVERWHELMING. I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND SAW GAS RUNNING THROUGH THE VENTS IN THE METAL SHIELD COVERING THE GAS TANK. THE CAR WAS PARKED UNTIL IT COULD BE INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC. I DID A ONLINE SEARCH FOR A GAS LEAK FOR THE 2005 G6 AND COULD ONLY FIND REFERENCE TO THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THE 2007 AND LATER MODELS. I CALLED TWO GM DEALERS AND THEY SHOWED NO RECALLS ON THE 2005 MODEL FOR GAS LEAKS AND COULD NOT GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE FOR TOTAL REPAIRS UNLESS I AGREED TO SPEND APPROX. $300 DOLLARS FOR AN INSPECTION. I CALLED MY MECHANIC AND THEY REMOVED THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND GAS TANK FROM OUR 2005 G6. I MADE A VIDEO OF THE GAS SETTING AROUND THE FUEL PUMP AND ON TOP OF THE GAS TANK. THEY CLEANED UP THE TANK, THEN DID A PRESSURE TEST WHICH SHOWED A CRACK IN THE ELBOW WHICH IS MADE ONTO THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. THE OLD FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY IS STILL A WORKING PART EXCEPT FOR THE CRACK WHICH I BELIEVE IS DEFECTIVE WORKMANSHIP. I MADE A VIDEO OF THE NEW FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY AFTER ITS INSTALLATION AND I SEE NO DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY THE PART IS MADE. I ALSO HAVE THE OLD WORKING PART WITH A VIDEO OF WHERE THE CRACKED ELBOW IS LOCATED. ON 8-27-12 I SPENT $505.06 FOR THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY, $44.82 IN SALES TAX AND $225 IN LABOR. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE NEW PART WILL DO EXACTLY WHAT THE OLD PART DID AND I WILL BE STUCK WITH A LEAK AGAIN. I FIND NO COMFORT IN KNOWING MY DAUGHTER COULD BE RIDING AROUND IN A CAR THAT COULD LITERALLY BE A BOMB. IF SOMEONE CHECKED THE FACTS, I THINK THIS PARTICULAR FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN USED FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND HAS ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS BUT WERE OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. HOW CONVENIENT! I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT BUYING GM MEANT MADE IN AMERICA. GUESS NOT! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS ERRONEOUSLY ILLUMINATED WITHOUT THE BRAKES BEING APPLIED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH SHORTED INTERNALLY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. .... UPDATED 02-20-13 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND THE TRACTION CONTROL WOULD RANDOMLY TURN ON. POWER STEERING FAILED, WITHOUT WARNING, LIGHT COMING ON. TURNING WHEELS IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE, THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND I CAME TO A STOP SIGN. MY HOME IS ADJACENT TO THAT STOP SIGN, SO WHEN I MADE A RIGHT FROM THE STOP SIGN TO TURN LEFT IN MY DRIVEWAY, MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ON ME. THE STREET I BECAME STUCK ON WAS 30 MPH, AND THERE WERE CARS DRIVING OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE OF IT. A FEW OF THE PEOPLE FROM THE CARS CAME TO HELP ME PUSH THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY. MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE SCREEN INSIDE THE CAR READ "POWER STEERING". I DID SEVERAL SEARCHES FOR THIS PART TO BE REPLACED; THEY WERE WELL OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS. I NEED HELP, AND I NEED MY CAR. I HAVEN'T HAD MY CAR FOR A FULL YEAR YET. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE HIGHWAY, I HAD MY CRUISE CONTROL SET, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CARS CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGED, AND COULD NOT BE SET AGAIN. WHEN I GOT HOME I WALKED AROUND MY CAR WITH THE CAR RUNNING AND NOTICED MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED WITH NO DRIVER PRESENT IN THE CAR. I HAVE READ ONLINE ABOUT MANY PONTIAC G6 HAVING THIS ISSUE, EVEN A RECALL WAS SENT OUT BUT IT DOESN'T EFFECT MY CAR. I ALSO HAVE NOTICED MANY G6 DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD DOING THE SAME THING AS MINE, BRAKE LIGHTS WRITING ON THEIR OWN OR NOT WORKING AT ALL. IT ALSO TRIGGERS THE CAR MAINTENANCE LIGHT TO TURN ON AS WELL. *TR
WHERE DO I BEGIN!!! MY G6 I LOVE BUT APPARENTLY THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING GOES OUT. SO, WITH THAT BEING SAID YOU HAVE NO POWER STEERING. ITS IS REALLY HARD TO TURN YOUR WHEEL, ON HIGHWAY TO GET OFF AN EXIT, PULL IN TO PARK SOMEWHERE, MAKE A TIGHT TURN, AND TRY AND PULL OUT OF A TIGHT PARKING SITUATION. I REALIZE ONE OF THE WAYS TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS TO GET IT FIX (OBVIOUSLY OUTRAGEOUS PRICE), OR JUST TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART THAT SEEMS TO WORK. SO, APPARENTLY ABOUT 3-4 YEARS AGO GM REALIZED THIS "MANUFACTURE DEFECT/RECALL" BUT NOT A SAFETY RECALL? I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT BUT YOU KNOW HOW BIG COMPANIES ARE NEVER WANT TO BE ACCOUNTABLE. OK, SO IN 2010 I RECEIVE THIS LETTER FROM GM ABOUT THIS LOSS OF POWER STEERING BUT IN THE LETTER REMINDER IT STATES "THE VEHICLE CAN STILL BE STEERED IN A SAFE MANNER BUT WILL REQUIRE GREATER DRIVER EFFORT AT LOW VEHICLE SPEEDS OR WHEN STOPPED." OK SO WHEN YOU ARE ON THE HIGHWAY??? I WORK ALOT AND HAVE TO TRAVEL, AND FOR PERSONAL REASONS I TRAVEL A GOOD BIT. I HAVE BEEN VERY LUCKY WHEN THIS DEFECT OCCURS EITHER SOMEONE WITH ME TO GUIDE ME THROUGH IT OR FOR SOME REASON THE HIGHWAY IS NON BUSY AND I CAN PULL OVER (REMINDER 2 HANDS ON THE WHEEL WITH NO POWER STEERING USING ALL MY ARM STRENGTH TO PULL OVER) OK, SO AGAIN THIS GM LETTER, SO OK COURSE AFTER TRYING TO JUMP SOME HOOPS I DON'T MEET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS REPAIR TO FIX BY GM AT THEIR COST. THAT LETTER STATES VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 100,000MILES..YEA OK, ME I TRAVEL!!! CRAZY SO I COMPLAIN WHY NOT RIGHT. SO, 2 YEARS PASS RECEIVE A LETTER FROM GM AGAIN ABOUT THIS "POWER STEERING ISSUE" NOW 150,000ML..AGAIN!!! *TR
I WAS DRIVING FROM PHILADELPHIA PA TO BALTIMORE MARYLAND. UPON STOPPING AT A LIGHT BEFORE ENTERING THE HIGHWAY, MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND I COULD NOT STEER THE CAR. AS PER ( APRIL, 2014) THIS IS STILL HAPPENING TODAY. I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS, THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE CAR AND SHOULD BE TAKEN IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING (THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR). THIS CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE, IT'S DANGEROUS AND CONTINUES TO LOCK AS I AM DRIVING. *TR

SHE HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIME AND SHAKE THE GEAR SHIFT IN ORDER TO GET IT OUT OF POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000. *TR
THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK MOST OF THE TIME. THEY ARE USUALLY BACKWARDS (RED WHEN DRIVING AND OFF WHEN BRAKING). *TR
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, MY CAR WILL CHIME ONCE AND A MESSAGE WILL APPEAR ABOUT MY POWER STEERING. I WILL LOSE MY POWER STEERING FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO STEER THE CAR OVER OFF THE ROAD. IT HAS ALSO CHIMED AND A MESSAGE WILL COME ON ABOUT SERVICING THE AIR BAGS. AFTER THE AIR BAG MESSAGE, THE SECURITY PADDLELOCK WILL COME ON AND MY CAR WILL BASICALLY SHUT DOWN. I WILL LOSE MY ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND STEER THE CAR. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALSO WHEN TURNING CORNERS OR STOPPING AT STOP SIGNS. ONCE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STOPPED AND SHUT OFF, IT WILL NOT START AGAIN. I HAVE TO LET IT SIT FOR AT LEAST 20 TO 25 MINUTES AND THEN I CAN RESTART IT. SOMETIMES IT WILL RUN FINE FOR WEEKS, AND OTHER TIMES SUCH AS YESTERDAY, IT CONTINUED EVERY TIME I DROVE IT. I JUST HAD NUMEROUS LARGE REPAIR BILLS AND I HAVE NO MORE MONEY TO FIX THIS MAJOR PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONE YEAR AGO, SHE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V036000 ( EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT WENT BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED, BUT THEY DENIED HER REQUEST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED ON HER VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
MY ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING, MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL. IT HAS HAPPENED ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT RECENTLY. IT ALSO MAKES MY CAR SHAKE AND MAKE CLUNKING NOISES. IT IS IN THE REPAIR SHOP NOW, BUT BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECALL, I AM EXPECTED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR, WHICH I AM REFUSING TO DO. WITH THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS AND THE ABSOLUTE DANGER OF THIS PROBLEM, IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT THIS CAR IS NOT RECALLED AND COVERED BY PONTIAC. I WILL PAY A LAWYER FEE TO SUE PONTIAC BEFORE I PAY FOR REPAIRS CAUSED BY THEIR FAULTY ENGINEERING. *TR
DRIVING MY CAR AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE TURNING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. VERY SCARY AND HARD TO CONTROL. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS? *JS
THE ISSUES STARTED BY THE CRUISE CONTROL UNEXPECTEDLY DISENGAGING WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS NOW PROGRESSED TO IT THE CRUISE CONTROL COMES ON WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKE. THAT WAS ALMOST A YEAR AGO. NOW, THE CRUISE CONTROL STARTS WHEN THE BRAKE IS PRESSED. HOWEVER, WHEN IT COMES ON WITH THE BRAKE IT STAYS ON APPROXIMATELY 11-12 SECONDS AND THE DISENGAGES. THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT BEING PRESSED. WHEN, THE BRAKES ARE BEING PRESSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT ALWAYS COME ON. THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN HAPPENING SINCE SPRING OF 2012.I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICULAR TO GMC BEFORE AND I WAS TOLD THEIR WERE NO RECALLS AND THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF MY PROBLEMS BEFORE. BUT, IF I PAY THERE DIAGNOSTIC FEE TO FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT THEY CAN REPLACE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BUT IT WOULD BE A COSTLY REPAIR. I WAS THEN INFORMED IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO JUST TRADE IT IN. I WAS APPALLED. *TR
2005 PONTIAC G6 MAKING A LOUD CLUNKING/POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS. HAD IT CHECKED AT SEARS AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE RACK AND PINION STEERING AND I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A GM DEALERSHIP. *JS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN SENSOR. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AGAIN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
THE CAR BEGINS SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHEN TURNING THE CAR. THE CAR BECOMES HARD TO KEEP UNDER CONTROL. *TR
VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN 2010 FOR MY 17 YEAR OLD SON. WE ARE THE SECOND OWNERS. VEHICLE LOST STEERING POWER PULLING WHEN MY HUSBAND PULLED INTO OUR DRIVEWAY TODAY. MY SON JUST CONFIRMED THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BUT HADN'T SHARED THAT WITH US BEFORE TODAY. ALTHOUGH THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS APPEAR ON RECORD, WITH RESEARCH CONCLUDING THERE IS A PROBLEM, WE DID NOT RECEIVE NOTIFICATION OF A SAFETY ISSUE, AND NO FORMAL RECALL EXISTS. FOR A NEWER DRIVER, THIS IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS. PLEASE CONSIDER INSTITUTING NOTIFICATION OF ISSUES TO ALL VEHICLES TRANSFERRING TO A NEW OWNER, AND ADDING AN OFFICIAL RECALL ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. THIS MORNING I WOKE UP AND DECIDED TO GO TO BREAKFAST, LUCKILY I WAS IN THE DRIVE THROUGH WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I WAS TURNING TO GO THROUGH THE PAYING WINDOW AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT CAME BACK. WHEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT YOU CAN'T TURN THE WHEEL KNOW MATTER HOW STRONG YOU ARE. I WAS LUCKY... LUCKILY I WASN'T TAKING AN EXIT OR TURNING AT AN INTERSECTION. I HAVE READ A BUNCH OF POWER STEERING PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR WHICH IS AN 05 PONTIAC G6 GT, AND EVERYONE IS SAYING THAT GM DOESN'T SEE THIS AS A SAFETY PROBLEM. I COULD HAVE CAUSED A PRETTY BAD ACCIDENT IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT WENT OUT. *TR
MY CAR WILL TELL ME THAT THE ENGINE POWER HAS BEEN REDUCED AND THEN IT WILL DISABLE THE MOTOR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I HAVE TO HOPEFULLY BE ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT. THIS CAN HAPPEN UP TO SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. IT DID IT TO ME 5 TIMES IN A SPAN OF A HALF HOUR TODAY. IT MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS WHEN THERE ARE CARS BEHIND ME BECAUSE I'M NOT SURE IF THEY ARE GOING TO REALIZE THAT I CAN'T MOVE. HAD CAR FIXED WITH DEALERSHIP FROM A RECALL INVOLVING THE BRAKE LIGHTS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY IN 2009. RECENTLY THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS HAS BEEN OCCURRING, IDENTICAL TO THE RECALL ISSUE. I.E. BRAKE LIGHTS GO ON WHILE DRIVING AND DO NOT FUNCTION WHILE BRAKING. WHEN BRINGING IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AS IT WAS ALREADY SERVICED FOR THE RECALL AND IS PROBABLY ANOTHER ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THE CAR PROBLEM IS IDENTICAL TO THE RECALL ISSUE AND WANT ME TO PAY OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. *JS

THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND FILED A CLAIM ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,655.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT SPECIFY THE FAILURE BUT ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVER THE WARRANTY MILEAGE LIMIT AND PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY CONFIRMED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,021.
MY SON WAS TRAVELING HOME AND DISCOVERED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO CONTROL. DUE TO RECENT SHOULDER SURGERY IN DECEMBER, IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL. IN AN EFFORT TO GAIN CONTROL, HE PLACED PRESSURE ON THE SHOULDER AND SAFELY GOT THE CAR OFF OF THE ROAD. DUE TO THE PRESSURE ON THE SHOULDER, HE WAS TAKEN TO THE ORTHOPEDIC CENTER TO HAVE HIS SHOULDER EXAMINED FOR ADDITIONAL INJURY. AFTER REVIEWING OVER 132 COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND THE RECALLS THAT WERE MADE FOR THE 2005 PONTIAC G5 BUT NOT THE 2005 PONTIAC G6. MY WIFE AND I ARE VERY DISTRAUGHT THAT THE G6 WAS NOT PLACED ON THE RECALL LIST AND THAT OUR SON WAS SO CLOSE TO LOSING HIS LIFE. WE PURCHASED THE PRE-OWNED VEHICLE IN MAY 2011. SINCE THERE HAS BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS AND CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH BODILY INJURIES AND/OR DEATH, WE HAVE ALSO CONTACTED THE GM MANUFACTURE TO DETERMINE WHY THE PONTIAC G6 WAS NOT PLACED ON THE RECALL LIST. WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 PONTIAC G6, THE BRAKE LAMPS GO OFF WHEN I ACTUALLY PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. THEY WILL STAY ON OR SOMETIMES FLASH AT RANDOM TIMES THE ENTIRE TIME I DRIVE. IT IS A WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS AND IT IS RELATED TO CORROSION ON THE BCM. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO ME IN THIS CAR. PONTIAC HAS NEVER ISSUED A RECALL, THEIR WAY OF FIXING IT IS PUTTING DIELECTRIC GREASE ON THE CONNECTORS AND CALLING IT GOOD. IT WORKED FOR ME FOR ABOUT A YEAR, AND THE PROBLEM HAS RESURFACED....WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 65MPH. FAULTY BRAKE LAMPS ARE AN EXTREME DANGER TO ANYONE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *TR
WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKELIGHT THE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON, HOWEVER WHEN I ACCELERATE THE LIGHT REMAINS ON. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO A GM DEALERSHIP IN2012AND PAID ($220) TO HAVE IT "FIXED". I WAS TOLD BY GM THAT THIS IS THE ONLY FIX(LUBRICATE THE BCM CONTROL). THE PROBLEM HAS SINCE COME BACK AND NO MECHANIC KNOWS HOW TO FIX IT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 30 MILES PER HOUR WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED MOVING BY ITS SELF, JERKING BACK AND FORTH. THE STEERING ON MY CAR WENT OUT AS I WAS GOING TO TURN ON A BUSY STREET. LUCKILY I WAS BARELY PICKING UP SPEED. BUT IF THIS HAD NOT BEEN THE CASE I COULD HAVE EASILY HIT TWO PEOPLE THAT WERE STANDING ON THE CORNER OR EVEN TRAFFIC LIGHT POST. THERE WAS NO WARNING AT ALL. EXCEPT THE BEEPING AND THEN THE STEERING GOING OUT. AFTER THE STEERING WENT OUT IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN, I HAD TO GET HELP. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIX. I'VE READ THAT THIS HAS ALSO HAPPEN TO OTHER PEOPLE AND SOME EVEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. SOMEONE COULD GET KILLED OR THEY CAN KILL SOMEONE!! THIS HAS TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY! I WAS DRIVING APPROX 30 MPH AND WHEN I WENT INTO A CURVE THE POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING AND I ALMOST RAN INTO THE DITCH AND HIT A MAIL BOX. LUCKILY, I MISSED BOTH OF THEM BUT PULLED A MUSCLE IN MY SHOULDER TRYING TO KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND MY 3 POINT TURN TURNED INTO A 8 POINT TURN. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WAS ON THE SCREEN FLASHING. THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS AND DEADLY. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE DIES AND THE COMPANY IS SUED, CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT I'M SEEING THIS REPORTED QUITE OFTEN. *TR

MY G6 SPORADICALLY WOULD LOOSE POWER STEERING AND LOCK UP COMPLETELY, I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL. LUCKILY, IT HAPPENED AT A STOP SIGN OR A SIDE STREET, I COULD SHUT OFF MY CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON AND IT WAS FINE. MY FAMILY AND I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT MY CAR HAD A NOTICE ON IT TO HAVE THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED FOR FREE BY THE DEALERSHIP. 11/30/11 IS WHEN WE TOOK MY CAR THE DEALERSHIP HAD HAD IT FIXED. I DROVE IT FOR ROUGHLY TWO WEEKS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL 12/14/11. I WAS MERGING FROM I-29 N TO 36 E GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. I HAD JUST MERGED INTO THE RIGHT LANE WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL JERKED TO THE LEFT; I TRIED TO CORRECT THE CAR AND LOST CONTROL. I SPUN AND FLIPPED MY CAR ONTO THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY INTO THE WEST BOUND TRAFFIC PASSING LANE. MY CAR LANDED UPSIDE DOWN ON ITS ROOF. IT WAS A HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS VEHICLE! I WAS LUCKY I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT AND I DIDN'T HIT ANY OTHER CARS. I SUFFERED A HAND INJURY BUT MOSTLY AM JUST REALLY SHAKEN UP AND FULLY BELIEVE THIS CAR NEEDS A RECALL!! *KB
MY DAUGHTER WAS AT A STOPLIGHT GETTING READY TO TURN AND THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED UP ON HER. SHE COULDN'T TURN IT AT ALL. SHE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND IT SEEMED FINE. THE ISSUE OCCURRED A SECOND TIME IN FEBRUARY 2012. IT WAS DIAGNOSED AT THE DEALER AS HAVING A POWER STEERING ASSIST ISSUE. THE CAR HAD 120,000 MILES ON IT AT THAT TIME SO WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE 'SPECIAL COVERAGE' GM HAS FOR THE STEERING ISSUE. WE DID HAVE THE CAR FIXED BECAUSE WE FELT IT WAS TOO DANGEROUS FOR HER TO DRIVE. IT COST $684. *JS
I NOTICED THAT WHEN TRYING TO PARK MY VEHICLE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. IT IS DIFFICULT TO STEER AND APPEARS THAT THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. THE PROBLEM DOES NOT CORRECT ITSELF UNTIL YOU ARE GOING MORE THAN 20 MPH. THIS CONTINUES TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE NOTICED THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR 2005 AND 2006 G6 ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSISTS. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN AND I WAS TAKING THEM TO SCHOOL WHEN THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. I COULD BARELY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I COULD NOT IMAGINE IF WE WERE ON THE MAIN ROAD AND I WAS GOING A LITTLE FASTER. I NOTICED THAT YOU DID AN INVESTIGATION AND CLOSED IT BACK IN 2007. WELL I BOUGHT MY G6 A YEAR AGO AND DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM OR ABOUT THE ADDITIONAL 70,000 MILE WARRANTY FOR SYSTEM FAILURES EVEN AFTER RUNNING A CARFAX REPORT. THIS IS NOT AN EARLY LIFE PROBLEM AS MY G6 HAS 114,500 MILES ON IT. THIS WAS VERY SCARY. I THINK THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT GM NEEDS TO FIX WITH A RECALL. YESTERDAY WHILE TRYING TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT, MY STEERING COLUMN LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A STEERING COLUMN NOTICE SHOWING ON THE RADIO DASH COLUMN. I THOUGHT IF I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN, THE PROBLEM WOULD GO AWAY. IT DIDN'T. I WAITED ABOUT 20 MINUTES BEFORE TURNING THE CAR BACK ON AGAIN TO SEE IF THE ISSUE HAD RESOLVED ITSELF. (THIS ALSO HAPPENS WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT. SOMETIMES IN THE EARLIER MORNING WHEN IT IS COLD, THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL APPEAR UPON FIRST TURNING THE VEHICLE ON. I TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT DISAPPEARS.) I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE SENSOR IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THAT EVERYTHING WOULD COST ABOUT $800 + TAX TO FIX. MY HUSBAND STARTED RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ONLINE TO SEE WHAT OTHER OWNERS WERE SAYING. I AM REALLY SURPRISED THAT JUST ABOUT 90% OF FOLKS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE STEERING COLUMN, THAT GM IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, AND IS NOT LISTING A RECALL. WHEN SPEAKING TO THE DEALERSHIP, OF COURSE THEY MADE IT SEEM LIKE THE REPAIRS THEY HAVE COMPLETED ON STEERING COLUMNS WERE MINIMAL. SINCE I HAVE HAD MY CAR, I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACED TWICE.THE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE GREASED ONCE. EVERY YEAR MY BRAKES ARE BEING REPLACED, AND ABOUT TWICE A YEAR, ONE OF THE TWO IF NOT BOTH TIE RODS NEED REPLACED. I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR FOUR KEY FOBS. MY TRUNK LEAKS WATER. MY FRONT HEAD LIGHT NEEDED REPLACED AS IT LEAKED WATER. NOT CHEAP. I CAN GO ON AN ON WITH THE REPAIRS BUT HAVE REACHED MY "CHARACTER LIMIT". I FEEL LIKE I GOT A LEMON. WOULD LIKE TO COMPLAIN TO SOMEONE IN AUTHORITY, BUT DEALERSHIP IS NO HELP. *TR
