I HAVE BEEN HAVING SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN MY 2005 PONTIAC G6. WHEN DRIVING TO WORK MY POWER STEERING FAILED, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER THANK GOD. MY DASH LIGHTS BLINK ON AND OFF AS WELL AS FUSES KEEP BLOWING. I UNDERSTAND THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THE G5 AND G8 FOR THE POWER STEERING AND I ALSO KNOW OF MANY OTHERS HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE WRECKS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THERE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A SAFE LOCATION AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOUR TIMES; HOWEVER, THE POWER STEERING RESET AFTER THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,800.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR IN THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH. WHEN IN MY RADIO SHOW UP POWER STEERING. MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME SO HARD AND I ALMOST HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I TRIED TO PUT OIL BUT I DIDN'T FIND THE RESERVE TANK!! THEN I SEARCH IN THE INTERNET AND THE POWER STEERING IS ELECTRICAL AND THERE ARE MANY COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS SAME SITUATION. I CALL THE GM AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY NEVER HEARD ANY OTHER CASE!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!! THEY SHOULD SEE ALL THE COMPLAINS ABOUT IT AND ALSO THIS IS A MANUFACTURE PROBLEM AND IS NOT FAIR THAT THE CLIENT HAVE TO PAY 4 SOMETHING THAT WE DIDN'T CAUSE!! I COULD GET KILLED FOR THIS SITUATION!!! WHY NO ONE WANT TO HELP US WITH THESE PROBLEM??? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH AND ABOVE, THE STEERING WOULD BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE UNLESS IT FAILED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 107,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE INTERSTATE DRIVING MADE THE CAR DANGEROUSLY DIFFICULT TO STEER. *TR
MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE STUCK ON UNTIL I PUSH MY BRAKE PEDAL DOWN, THEN THEY TURN OFF. MY BRAKE LIGHTS NOW WILL NOT TURN ON WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO UNTIL MY BRAKE PEDAL IS PUSHED ALL THE WAY DOWN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, ANOTHER DRIVER ALERTED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED. ADDITIONALLY, THE IGNITION KEY BECAME STUCK AND RELEASED AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. THE CRUISE CONTROL AND TRACTION CONTROL WERE ALSO INOPERABLE. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL , EXTERIOR LIGHTING , SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC , VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE BODY CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. THREE MONTHS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
BRAKE LIGHTS ARE MALFUNCTIONING. LIGHTS ARE STUCK ON WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED, AND TURN OFF WHEN IT IS. CRUISE CONTROL DOESN'T FUNCTION WHEN THIS PROBLEM IS OCCURRING. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL ON SOME 2005 G6 MODELS BUT MY CAR WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MORE CARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING: BRAKE LIGHTS) AND WAS REPAIRED. TWO YEARS LATER, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED AND WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THEY WERE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE WIRING. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 98,000.
MY CAR HAS LOST POWER STEERING DUE TO MANUFACTURER DEFECT. 2005 PONTIAC G6 HAS A SPECIAL WARRANTY ON ITS POWER STEERING DUE TO PROBLEM. TSB (10183) READS: GENERAL MOTORS IS PROVIDING OWNERS WITH ADDITIONAL PROTECTION FOR THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST CAUSED BY ELECTRICAL INPUT SIGNALS WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. IF THIS CONDITION OCCURS ON YOUR 2005-2006 MODEL YEAR PONTIAC G6 VEHICLE WITHIN 10 YEARS OF THE DATE YOUR VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED IN SERVICE OR 100,000 MILES, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST, THE CONDITION WILL BE REPAIRED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE. AFTER SPEAKING WITH A TECHNICIAN HE INFORMED ME THAT MY POWER STEERING MOTOR/MODULE WAS FAULTY, BUT COULDN'T TELL ME IF FAILURE FROM INPUT SIGNALS WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN HAD CAUSED THE PROBLEM OR NOT. DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE MOTOR AND SAYS IT IS NOT WARRANTIED UNDER THE SPECIAL COVERAGE. HOWEVER, IF HE CANNOT ASCERTAIN THAT FAULTY INPUT SIGNALS HAD CAUSED THE CONDITION IN THE POWER STEERING MOTOR THEN HOW CAN HE NOT WARRANTY THIS PART SINCE THE BULLETIN SAYS IT COVERS THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING? *TR
2005 PONTIAC G6 ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST MOTOR. MY POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR HAS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING REPEATEDLY, LOCKING MY STEERING WHEEL WHILE IN MOTION AND ALSO WHILE STOPPED. *KB
2005 PONTIAC G6 POWER STEERING ELECTRIC MOTOR FAILURE. THE ELECTRIC MOTOR ON THE POWER STEERING RANDOMLY QUITS WORKING. THE STEERING RANDOMLY LOCKS UP AT ANY SPEED, CAUSING HUGE POTENTIAL RISK OF A CRASH. GM HAS ISSUED A TSB FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR VEHICLES UNDER 100,000 MILES ONLY. WHAT ABOUT EVERYONE WITH MORE THAN 100,000 MILES? THIS NEEDS AN OFFICIAL RECALL! *TR
MY VEHICLE HAS A PANORAMIC SUNROOF THAT HAS 5 OPTIONS (0-CLOSED, 4 COMPLETELY OPEN). PERIODICALLY THE SUNROOF WOULD NOT CLOSE TO THE CORRECT NUMBERED OPTION, BUT WOULD GO TO THE CORRECT SPOT AFTER ANOTHER TRY. NOW, IT WILL NOT CLOSE PAST THE SECOND OPTION. NOW, MY SUNROOF IS STUCK OPEN AND THE REPLACEMENT PART IS $1500! I DON'T WANT TO PAY THAT MUCH MONEY FOR A SUNROOF SO MY MECHANIC IS GOING TO TRY TO SHUT IT AND DISABLE THE MECHANISM. ALL THE USED PARTS MY MECHANIC TRIED LOOKING INTO ARE REPORTING TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE ON THE ROAD, MY '05 PONTIAC G6 HAS MORE THAN A FEW TIMES LOST ITS POWER STEERING, AS I WAS INFORMED BY THE COMPUTER ON MY DASH. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 3 OR 4 TIMES. I HAVE READ ONLINE IN PUBLIC THREADS AND FORUMS THAT IT HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE AND GM HAS STILL NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM BECAUSE OF AT LEAST 14 REPORTED CRASHES THAT HAVE OCCURRED FROM THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO READ ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE COMPLAINED DIRECTLY TO GM AND WERE TOLD THEY WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTICS FEE AS WELL AS PARTS AND LABOR TO GET IT FIXED. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND I DO NOT BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING BECAUSE I DID NOT BREAK ANYTHING OR DO ANYTHING WRONG. IF A RECALL IS NOT ISSUED I WOULD LIKE TO AT LEAST BE COVERED FOR ANY WORK THAT WOULD FIX THE STEERING. OR WORST CASE A DIFFERENT VEHICLE OPTION. *TR
IMPROPER OPERATION OF THE BRAKE LAMPS. WHILE USING MY BRAKES I DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LAMPS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE. ALSO, THE BRAKE LAMPS WOULD ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT APPLIED. I CALLED GM DEALER AND THEY INDICATED MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THEIR RECALL. IT IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD NO IDEA HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO FIX IT UNTIL THEY DID DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. WHEN I EXPLAINED IT IS THE SAME CONDITION AS RECALL# 09V036000 THEY JUST KEPT TELLING ME THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. GM NEEDS TO EXPAND THE RECALL TO ALL PONTIAC G6 VEHICLE, NOT JUST THOSE MANUFACTURED IN JANUARY 2005. *TR
WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THE TAIL LIGHTS GO OUT. WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON CAUSING CRUISE CONTROL NOT TO ENGAGE. THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR HAS ALREADY HAD THE DIELECTRIC GREASE PUT IN THE CONNECTOR BUT STILL MALFUNCTIONS. *TR
WE OWN A 05 PONTIAC G6. THIS VEHICLE HAS A CHRONIC ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL SENSOR. WHEN THE SENSOR IS HAVING ISSUES, IT IS EXTREMELY HARD TO GET THE CAR TO GO FROM PARK TO DRIVE. MORE IMPORTANTLY THOUGH IS THEN THE SENSOR CAUSES THE BRAKE LIGHT TO WORK IN REVERSE. WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES, THE LIGHTS GO OFF, WHEN THE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED, THE LIGHT STAYS ON. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL SENSORS REPLACED AND NOW HAVE BEEN TOLD THE "FIX" IS THE ELECTRICAL LUBRICANT. THIS ELECTRICAL LUBRICANT IS ONLY GOOD FOR A FEW MONTHS. OBVIOUSLY, IT IS A HALF[XXX] "FIX". WE HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL "FORMER" PONTIAC DEALERS ONLY TO HAVE BEEN TOLD WE ARE "OUT OF LUCK". THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, IF YOU DEPRESS YOUR BRAKES AND NO LIGHTS COME ON IT COULD LEAD TO A REAR-END COLLISION.THANKFULLY THIS LAST TIME MY HUSBAND WAS WARNED OF THIS EVENT BY A GAL WHO WAS DRIVING BEHIND HIM. MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT HE WAS DRINKING. HE WAS TOLD THAT A CHARACTERISTIC OF A DRUNK DRIVER IS THAT THEY "RIDE THEIR BRAKES". GM NEEDS TO GET THIS CORRECTED!! IT IS NOT SAFE. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR MY HUSBAND WHO DRIVES 50 MILES ROUND TRIP TO WORK EVERYDAY. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. WE ARE SERIOUSLY CONTEMPLATING TRADING IN THE VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER ONE BECAUSE OF THIS AND OTHER ISSUES WITH THE G6. IT HAS BEEN A LEMON SINCE WE GOT IT BETWEEN THIS BRAKE ISSUE, A "CLUNKING" NOISE WHEN TURNING (WHICH WE WERE TOLD IS "NOTHING" FROM OUR FORMER PONTIAC DEALERS) AND THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF LEAKING AND NOISE ISSUES, WHICH AS WELL WE WERE TOLD NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT. (WE HAD STANDING WATER IN THE VEHICLE W/ THE LEAKS) THIS BRAKE ISSUE NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT!!!! WE WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER GM VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS CRAPPY SERVICE AND LACK OF CARE IN GETTING THIS VEHICLE RECALLED. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE??? I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ADDRESSING THIS SAME THING. I WOULD IMPLORE NHTSA TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS. TODAY WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT MY POWER STEERING FAILED. A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DIC AND THEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I MANAGED TO TURN THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT. I SHUT OFF THE CAR, AND RE-STARTED AND THE POWER STEERING BEGAN WORKING AGAIN. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME FOR THE FAILURE, BUT I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER DRIVERS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. THE 2005 PONTIAC G6 GT HAS THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST POWER STEERING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS, WATER LEAKED INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE ENTIRE WEATHER STRIPPING WAS REPLACED. THREE MONTHS AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
I HAVE EXPERIENCED NEARLY A DOZEN NEAR ACCIDENTS AS THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2005 PONTIAC G6 GT FAILS RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. WHEN DRIVING, THE WHEEL LOCKS UP AND BECOMES DIFFICULT TO TURN. IT HAPPENS APPROXIMATELY ONCE EVERY OTHER WEEK AND HAS DONE SO FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN BRINGING IN THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP, THE DEALER CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR BECAUSE TURNING OFF THE ENGINE RESETS THE ISSUE, AND THE POWER STEERING WORKS AGAIN. I HAVE BEEN IGNORED BY PONTIAC SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN JANUARY 2005. NO DEALER I HAVE TAKEN IT TO HAS BEEN ABLE COME UP WITH A SOLUTION. *TR
THREE DAYS AGO, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM INDIANAPOLIS, 350 MILES FROM HOME, RETURNING FROM TRAINING FOR MY NEW JOB. IT WAS RAINING AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN, IT FELT AS IF MY CAR WAS ON ICE, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT AT ALL. THERE WAS NO WARNING AT ALL. WHEN I PULLED OVER, I NOTICED THAT MY FRONT TIRES WERE BALD, I BOUGHT THEM BRAND NEW TWO WEEKS PRIOR. AFTER DRIVING CAREFULLY HOME, I TOOK IT INTO SERVICE. COMES TO FIND OUT THAT MY WHOLE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, ALONG WITH MY 2 FRONT TIRES. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, MY STEERING GEAR BOX AND EVERYTHING WAS CRACKED OR BROKEN IN HALF??? I APOLOGIZE THIS ISN'T VERBATIM. I HAVE READ ALL THESE COMMENTS AND COMPLAINTS, BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM THAT ANYONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. DOES SOMEONE REALLY HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THE PROBLEM IS TAKEN CARE OF? ALSO, I NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING FROM GM ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS ABOUT THIS AND THERE ALSO SEEMS TO BE NO RECALLS FOR THIS. I ALSO JUST ROLLED 100K MILES, SO IF THERE WERE TO BE ANYTHING THAT GM WERE TO DO ABOUT IT, IT SEEMS THAT IT IS TOO LATE NOW. THIS REPAIR IS GOING TO COST ME APPROXIMATELY $900. SUBSEQUENTLY, IT WAS FRIDAY THE 13TH.... I CERTAINLY PRAY THAT NO ONE LOSES THEIR LIFE OVER THE STEERING PROBLEMS WITH THESE VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY SINCE PONTIAC IS NO LONGER AND GM TOOK THE BAILOUT MONEY. GLAD THEY CAN DO THAT AND PAY THEIR BILLS. THIS REPAIR MEANS MY FAMILY DOESN'T GET REAL FOOD FOR A BIT.... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING BOX. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS AND PROVIDED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 184,000.
FIRST PROBLEM, THE EXTERIOR REAR TAIL BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT FUNCTION WELL. I DID FIND THE RECALL AND DID TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIR. THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST EVEN AFTER CHANGING OUT THE DEFECTED PART. THIS IS VERY SCARY AND CAN LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. SECOND PROBLEM, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND SERVICE LIGHT, WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES VERY HARD AND DIFFICULT TO STEER. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF THE STEERING WHEEL RETURNS TO "NORMAL". I HAVE SEEN ON DIFFERENT FORUM OF COMPLAINT THAT HAVE BEEN MADE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I THINK THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT AND DEATHS. THIS PROBLEM EXIST AND NOT ONLY IN MY VEHICLE BUT IN MANY OTHER OF THE SAME MAKE. THIS IS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMING DIFFICULT TO STEER MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I AM VERY ANGRY BECAUSE EVER SINCE I GOT THE CAR I HAVE BEEN HAVING A LOT OF SAFETY ISSUES WITH IT, AND AS A STUDENT ATTENDING COLLEGE IT IS EXTREMELY AN INCONVENIENCE. I HAVE THREE YEARS PAYING THE CAR AND HAVE ONE YEAR TO GO, THIS SO UNFORTUNATE BECAUSE AS FAR AS ALL THE REVIEWS THE PROBLEM IS NEVER TAKEN CARE OF WHICH WOULD MEAN I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR. *TR
THE POWER STEERING LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING. CAR IS OVER 70,000 AND IS OUT OF EXTENDED WARRANTY. I'VE HEARD MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND I'VE CALLED AROUND TO OTHER MECHANICS TO HAVE THIS LOOKED AT AND NO ONE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO PIN POINT THE PROBLEM. *TR
ACCORDING TO RECALL #08317 BY GENERAL MOTORS, THE BRAKE LAMPS ON A 2005 PONTIAC G6 WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY DUE TO FRETTING CORROSION IN A WIRING CONNECTOR WITHIN THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. MY VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TO VAN CHEVROLET OF KANSAS CITY, MO TO FIX THIS ISSUE, AND WAS TOLD DUE TO THE FRETTING CORROSION THE BCM NEEDS REPLACED. I WAS TOLD BY THIS DEALERSHIP THEY COULD NOT REPLACE THE BCM WITHOUT A FEE AND REFUSED TO MAKE THE NECESSARY CORRECTIONS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO LEAVE THE SHOP WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS BEING DEFECTIVE. THIS WOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED IF NOT FOR THE FRETTING CORROSION AS STATED BY THE RECALL MENTIONED ABOVE. GENERAL MOTORS AND ANY GM DEALERSHIPS HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND MY STEERING WENT OUT, I HAD NO MORE POWER STEERING, I TURNED OFF MY CAR AND ON AGAIN THEN IT WORKED OK, LATER IT WENT OUT AGAIN ABOUT A 10 MILE STRETCH IT TOOK FOREVER TO WORK AGAIN, I AM STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM, I HEAR THEIR ARE MORE INCIDENTS RELATED TO MINE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A RECALL BUT PONTIAC SAYS IT IS NOT! SO WHY ARE THEIR SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR CAR? I HEARD THAT THE 2007 MODELS WENT BACK TO A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, NOT LIKE THE PREVIOUS YEARS THAT HAVE ELECTRIC STEERING.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO GET IN CONTACT WITH A LIVE PERSON. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

I OWN A 2005 PONTIAC G6 GT THAT I PURCHASED IN 2005. AROUND 2007 WAS THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THE POWER STEERING "LOCK-UP". I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AND I WAS SENT ON MY WAY. I REGULARLY MAINTAIN MY CAR AND TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT. IN THE LAST YEAR THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME WORSE (HAPPENED 5-6 TIMES LAST YEAR AND AGAIN THIS MORNING) AND I WAS TOLD BY GM THAT IT IS "EASIER" TO FILE A LAW SUIT THAN FOR THEM TO RECALL THE CAR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND VERY INCONSIDERATE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. WHAT HAPPENS IS, THE "POWER STEERING" LIGHT COMES ON ACROSS THE RADIO, THE MAINTENANCE WRENCH SHOWS ON THE DASH AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL. THIS VEHICLE HAS MAJOR STEERING ISSUES THAT CANNOT BE PERMANENTLY FIXED ACCORDING TO MECHANICS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN TOLD TO KEEP THIS 'ON THE HUSH' BY GM. GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAS RECALLED VEHICLES FROM OTHER BRANDS FOR SAFETY BASED ON THIS PROBLEM; HOWEVER, HAS NOT RECALLED THE PONTIAC'S FOR REASONS UNKNOWN. TOOK VEHICLE TO GM DEALER ON 12/5/10 AS HAVE NOTICED A KNOCKING/STICKING IN THE STEERING WHEN TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE SINCE I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE AND I HAVE HAD 2 STEERING GEAR REPLACEMENTS. HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE IS OFTEN HARD TO TURN. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR 2 DAYS AND STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. ON 12/13/10, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE WARNING LIGHT CHIMED AND LIT UP ON THE CONSOLE, THE WORDS "POWER STEERING" CAME UP ON THE SCREEN DISPLAY, AND THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY WENT OUT. THIS WAS WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 40 MPH. I COULD BARELY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS I TRIED TO MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN APRIL OF 2008. IN JULY OF 2008 I WAS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING OPPOSITE, CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING AS WELL AS INSTRUMENT PANEL. I HAD A NEW BODY CONTROL MODULE PUT IN MY CAR AND IT WAS FINE UP UNTIL NOVEMBER OF 2010 WHEN I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AGAIN. IN DECEMBER OF 2010 MY BRAKE LIGHTS STARTED WORKING OPPOSITE AGAIN AS WELL AS FLASHING WHILE I AM DRIVING. I HAVE BEEN HARASSED BY OTHER MOTORISTS WHO I HAVE GOTTEN MAD BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS OTHER MOTORISTS CANNOT TELL IF IM BRAKING. I HAVE CALLED GM THIS WEEK AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE WORK I HAD DONE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OVER 100,000 MILES AND THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WASN'T REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 154,023.

THIS PAST SATURDAY, I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND SUDDENLY (AND WITHOUT WARNING), MY POWER STEERING FAILED AND I COULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO TURN IT OFF AND RESTART THE CAR AND THAT CLEARED UP THE PROBLEM FOR THE MOMENT, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME SAFELY. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. I HAVE SINCE TAKEN IT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME OF THE PROBLEM, THAT BY THEY WAY, GM WAS WELL AWARE OF. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, EVEN THOUGH GM HAS RECALLED OTHER MODELS (THE G5 AND COBALT FOR EXAMPLE) FOR THE SAME ISSUE, POWER STEERING ASSIST, THEY BLOCKED THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION FROM RECALLING THE G6 MODELS, AND INSTEAD, ISSUED A "SPECIAL POLICY" THAT COVERS VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 100,000 MILES OR 10 YEARS. IN MY CASE, MY CAR IS OVER THE MILEAGE, THOUGH UNDER THE 10 YEARS. I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM GM OR MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ADVISING ME OF THIS POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING ISSUE. AND NOW BECAUSE MY CAR IS OVER THE MILEAGE THAT THEY CLEVERLY SET, I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR (BETWEEN $700 AND $800). I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY GM WOULD RECALL SOME VEHICLES WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, BUT NOT OTHERS. I DON'T THINK THIS IS THE RIGHT WAY TO TREAT LOYAL CUSTOMERS AND GM SHOULD FIX THIS FREE OF CHARGE FOR ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES SINCE IT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THEIR PRODUCT. GM NEEDS TO RETHINK THEIR STRATEGY AND AIM TO KEEP ALL THEIR CUSTOMERS HAPPY AND SAFE. GM NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR ALL CARS AFFECTED BY THIS AND ISSUE REFUNDS TO ANYONE WHO HAS ALREADY HAD TO COME OUT OF POCKET TO FIX IT. THE STEERING WHEEL IMMEDIATELY LOCKED UP EXTREMELY TIGHT. EVEN AS AN EXTREMELY HEALTHY WELL BUILT PERSON I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND ALMOST WENT OVER THE EMBANKMENT. I HIT BRAKES LUCKILY WITH NO ONE BEHIND ME OR INFRONT OF ME. I MANAGED TO BRING THE CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP. (3.)TURNED CAR OFF. RESTARTED. POWER STEERING LIGHT OFF. STEERING WHEEL UNLOCKED ITSELF. I PURCHASED A 2005 PONTIAC G6 GT SIX WEEKS AGO. YESTERDAY AND TODAY I HAVE HAD THE WARNING LIGHT AND INFO MESSAGE REGARDING LOSS OF POWER STEERING COME ON. I HAVE LOST POWER STEERING BOTH TIMES. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT RESULTING FROM THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE TODAY REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE AND I'M ALSO WONDERING WHY THIS HASN'T BECOME A RECALL. I HAVE A FAMILY OF 5 AND THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE. I NEED TO KNOW THAT MYSELF AND MY FAMILY CAN BE SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. 2005 PONTIAC G6 - WATER POURS FROM THE INTERIOR LIGHTS SPLASHING THE INSIDE OF THE CAR AND DRIVER WHICH IS AS UNEXPECTED AS A CHILD RUNNING IN FRONT OF A VEHICLE. THE SUDDEN DOWNPOUR MAY CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THEY LOOK UP TO SEE WHERE THE WATER IS COMING FROM.. NOBODY WAS INJURED IN MY INCIDENT HOWEVER, THE WATER IS COMING FROM THE DRAIN TUBES FROM THE TOP OF THE CAR WHICH HAVE A TENDANCY TO BECOME DISCONNECTED. I AM TOLD THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY HAZARD BUT A DRIVER DOES NOT EXPECT TO BE SUDDENLY SOAKED BY WATER WHEN DRIVING A CAR AND CAN CAUSE THE DRIVER TO BECOME RECKLESS WHICH MAY CAUSE DAMAGE OR INJURY TO A VEHICLE OR A PERSON IF IT HAS NOT ALREADY. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED AS A SAFETY HAZARD. OTHER THAN THE SAFETY HAZARD THAT IT IS, IT ALSO CAUSES THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR TO BE COMPLETELY DESTROYED FROM MOLD AND/OR MILDEW NEEDING COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. THE DEALERS ARE VERY MUCH AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT YET I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN TWICE AND BECAUSE IT WASN'T LEAKING AT THE TIME, THE COULD NOT SEE A PROBLEM. MIND YOU THE BACK FLOORBOARD AND SEAT WERE COMPLETELY SOAKED FROM 8 GALLONS OF WATER WHICH HAD BEEN SUCKED OUT OF THE CAR PRIOR TO DRIVING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. *TR
