TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, HE TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND HEARD A POPPING NOISE. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY AT VARIUS SPEEDS. OVER TIME, THE FAILURE PROGRESSED INTO A CONSTANT ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS PERFORMED REPAIRS. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE AS TO WHAT REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
MY POWERSTEERING WENT OUT. WHEN I START MY CAR IT AUTOMATICALLY TURNS TO THE LEFT. NOW I CANT EVEN DRIVE MY CAR. I WAS COMING BACK FROM NEW ORLEANS WITH MY 3 KIDS FROM THE HOLIDAYS AND MY POWER STEERING MESSED UP. I WOULD LIKE IT FIXED THAT CAN KILL SOMEONE WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. DON'T YOU THINK YOU SHOULD DO IT RIGHT AND FIX THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE EITHER GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
POWER STEERING COMPUTERIZED MODULE FAILED DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED. POWER STEERING LOSS ALERT APPEARED ON RADIO. WHEEL OF CAR LOCKED; VEHICLE WAS RENDERED UNSTEERABLE CAUSING CRASH AND PERSONAL INJURY. VEHICLE HAD THIS EXACT MODULE REPAIRED AT DEALERSHIP TWO WEEKS PRIOR WHEN POWER STEERING WAS LOST IN THE SAME MANNER W/THE SAME WARNING ALERT, BUT FIRST INSTANCE OCCURRED AT A 2MPH SPEED IN PARKING LOT.
2006 PONTIAC G6. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. VEHICLE RAN OFF THE ROAD AND HIT THE GUARD RAIL. *MC THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HAD A POWER STEERING PROBLEM 2 WEEKS PRIOR AND IT WAS REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT AIR BAG/SEAT BELT SENSOR CONTROL MODULE IS MALFUNCTIONING. SHE STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG WAS ACTIVATED WHETHER OR NOT SOMEONE WAS IN THE SEAT OR NOT. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR. LESS THAN A YEAR LATER, THE MALFUNCTION RECURRED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND CURRENT 44,400. FRONT END CLUCKING NOISE DEALER SAID STEERING ASSEMBLY WAS FAULTY, NO RECALL JUST A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE REPAIR. MANY PONTIACS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. WHEN TURNING FROM A STOP OR GOING OVER BUMPS I HEAR A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR, BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY! BRAKE LIGHTS EITHER WAS ON ALL THE TIME OR FLICKERED. THE DEALER HAS BEEN GREAT BY PUTTING ME IN ALT TRANSPORTAION ,BUT SEEMED THE PROBLEM ONLY EXISTED WITH ME FOR THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR WHILE IN THEIR POSSESION, BUT WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR THE PROBLEM WAS AGAIN THERE. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, ABS MODULE, AND REPROGRAMMED THE BCM. BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. VERY DANGEROUS, NO ONE COULD TELL WHEN STOPPING ,SLOWING OR GOING OR JUST RIDING THE BRAKES. THIS HAS TO BE ADDRESSED . *AK
SO WHEN I FIRST RECEIVED MY PONTIAC, I LOVED THE CAR, BUT THEN RIGHT AWAY AS I WOULD TURN I COULD HEAR A CLICKING NOISE. TOOK IT BACK AND THEY COULDN'T HEAR IT AT THE TIME OF SERVICE OR WHAT EVER THE INCIDENT WAS. OVER THE YEARS, I WAS BACK AND FORTH WITH THE MATTER AND NOW IT HAS OBVIOUSLY GOTTEN WORSE. THEN THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME UP WHERE MY RADIO IS AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SO I FIGURED THAT IT NEEDED MORE FLUID. WELL, THERE IS NO RESERVOIR ON THE CAR ANY WHERE, I HAD 2 MECHANICS LOOKING EVERY WHERE AND NOTHING. AND RECENTLY OUTTA NO WHERE AS I AM DRIVING IT JUST COMPLETELY LOCKS UP ON ME!! NOT ONLY IS THIS VERY DANGEROUS,BUT EXTREMELY SCARY WHEN I HAVE MY 4YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR!! SO I WENT ON A PONTIAC WEB SITE AND THE FORUM SAID TO MAKE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE PONTIAC DOESN'T BELIEVE THIS IS A BIG ENOUGH SAFETY ISSUE TO RECALL IT! WHILE I THINK IT IS!! *TR
THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG DOES NOT ACTIVATE WHEN A PERSON OF APPROPRIATE SIZE IS SEATED. MY VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATED FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM. WHEN A PERSON OF APPROPRIATE SIZE IS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IT IS SUPPOSE TO TURN THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG ON. *JB
PONTIAC 06 G6 HAS POWER STEERING ISSUES, AND STEERING SHAFT ISSUES. THE POWER STEERING IS VERY HARD TO STEER , SOME TIMES IT WONT STEER. IT LOCKS UP AND IS ALWAYS VERY TIGHT. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 SEDAN, IT HAS 38,934 MILES ON IT, LAST WEEK I BEGAN HAVING DIFFICULTY STEERING THE CAR AND THEN IT BEGAN TO MAKE AN AWFUL NOISE AT FIRST WHEN TURNING THEN WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME OF A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING BOX AND COLUMN. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION AND WOULD LIKE TO ADD MY CAR TO THE PROBLEM. MY MECHANIC STATED THAT IT WOULD HAVE TO GO BACK TO GM FOR ALL REPAIRS. *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GTP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE REAR DOOR CHILD SAFETY LOCKS. THE MANUFACTURERWAS UNABLE TO EXPLAIN WHY THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE THIS FEATURE. THE MANUFACTURER CHECKED THE OWNER'S MANUAL, CALLED THE DEALER' AND THEY DO NOT HAVE AN EXPLANATION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER CHILD OPENED THE REAR DOOR TWICE AND JUMPED OUT. THIS WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. *AK
TL* - WHILE DRIVING ON A MAIN ROAD AT 30 MPH, HER 2006 PONTIAC G6 SKIDDED ON BLACK ICE, CAUSING HER VEHICLE TO COLLIDE INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THERE WAS MAJOR DAMAGED TO THE PASSENGER FRONT SIDE, BUT THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT CAN PROVIDE COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT AND, COPIES OF PICTURES FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *JB
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6. TODAY I DROVE TO THE STORE AND BACK APROX. 10 MILES. WHILE DRIVING HOME I NOTICED GOING AROUND A CURVE THAT I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL. A FEW MOMENTS LATER THE CAR DINGS AND THE CLOCK SAYS POWER STEERING. IF FRUSTRATES ME THAT GM DOES NOT THINK THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. ALSO THE VEHICLE DOES NOT ALARM UNTIL AFTER THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. A LITTLE ADVANCED WARNING WOULD BE NICE. I HAVE 3 KIDS AND THIS IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE. I DON'T HAVE 1000 TO FIX IT. WOULD A GM EXECUTIVE LIKE TO COME AND TAKE THEIR KIDS TO SCHOOL IN MY CAR THAT IS CONSIDERED SAFE? I THINK NOT. *TR
2006 PONTIAC G6 GTP DRIVING (APPROX 20-30 MPH) DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN A LARGE TRUCK CAME DOWN THE STREET IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I TURNED MY WHEEL SLIGHTLY TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE CENTER LINE. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO TURN THE WHEEL BACK SO THAT I COULD GO STRAIGHT AGAIN. MY CAR HIT THE BACK WHEEL OF A PARKED CAR. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO BOTH CARS. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE DAMAGE TO BOTH CARS IS CURRENTLY BEING ASSESSED. *JB
POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING, FRONT OF CAR VIBRATES WHEN DRIVING ABOVE 55MPH. *TR
2006 PONTIAC G6 - STEERING COLUMN NOISE & "THUMP" -- FEELS LIKE STEERING WHEEL IS GOING TO STICK + YOU CAN FEEL IT IN THE BRAKES. BEFORE WARRANTY WAS UP, THEY REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT. PROBLEM WENT AWAY TEMPORARILY. JUST AS MY WARRANTY WAS UP, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAD TO FIGHT FOR THEM TO REPLACE IT AGAIN. ANOTHER DEALER WAS WILLING, AND REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT AGAIN. IT ONLY TOOK ONE MONTH BEFORE THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. NOW I JUST LIVE WITH IT. I WOULD SWEAR MY CAR STEERING IS EVENTUALLY GOING TO LOCK OR BREAK AND KILL SOMEONE, BUT PONTIAC SWEARS IT'S TOTALLY FINE. YOU WANT AN INCIDENT DATE, BUT I CAN'T GIVE YOU A SPECIFIC DATE BECAUSE THERE ARE TOO MANY. THIS IS CONSTANT. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. THEY RECALLED THIS ISSUE ON THE GM LINE OF TRUCKS AS A SAFETY PROBLEM, BUT NOT ON THE CARS. NOW I THINK I'VE READ THAT THERE MIGHT FINALLY BE A PROPER REPLACEMENT PART, BUT I DON'T FEEL LIKE IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR IT. GM SHOULD RECALL THIS PROBLEM. IT'S RIDICULOUS TO HAVE A POPPING, STICKING, CLUNKING SOUND & FEELING EVERY TIME YOU TURN YOUR STEERING WHEEL RIGHT OR LEFT. *TR
THERE IS A CLUNKING NOISE WHENEVER TURNING TO THE LEFT. APPARENTLY A LOT OF G6 OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THERE IS A POPPING NOISE EVERYTIME I TURN THE WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS. THE BRAKES ON MY CAR HAVE SQUEALED SINCE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THIS CAR. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO GET CHECKED ON COUNTLESS OCCASIONS, AND AM TOLD MY BRAKES ARE FINE, AND THAT THEY CAN REPLACE THE BREAKS AND ROTORS (EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE FINE), BUT THEY CANNOT SAY THAT IT WOULD MAKE THEM STOP SQUEAKING! I AM ALSO HAVING A PROBLEM WHEN I START THE CAR. I WILL TURN THE KEY AND IT WILL START, BUT IT KEEPS TURNING LIKE IT IS NOT STARTED, THEN JUST SHUTS OFF. I HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE ONLINE, WITH THEIR STEERING. I HAVE A BABY, AND I AM AFRAID THAT SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN SHE IS IN THE CAR WITH ME. WHILE GOING AROUND A CURVE, POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME ON CONSOLE. I LOST ALL POWER STEERING. I HAD TO RESTART CAR TO GET THE POWER STEERING BACK ON. I TOOK IT TO DEALER, THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN, SINCE THERE ISN'T A POWER STEERING PUMP IT IS ALL ELECTRICAL AND THE SWITCH IS IN THE COLUMN. THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THE PIECE WILL COME IN, BUT THEY SAID I COULD DRIVE IT AND IF IT GOES OUT AGAIN, IT WON'T DO ANY HARM, JUST BE A "SURPRISE". I PRAY THAT IT DOESN'T GO OUT GOING AT A HIGHER SPEED AROUND A CURVE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE OFF THE DEALER LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH, THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE WITH THE POWER WINDOWS. IN ADDITION, THE CELL PHONE CHARGER FUSE CONTINUED TO BLOW OUT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD MAKE REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. THERE WAS BUBBLING IN THE PAINT JOB THAT WAS ALSO REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, THE STEREO CHANGES FROM XM FM TO AM. THE SCREEN FOR THE XM RADIO IS BLANK, THE CLOCK IS ALWAYS BEHIND, AND THE FUEL GAUGE NEVER WORKS PROPERLY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO TELL EXACTLY HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE TICKS PERIODICALLY AND IT SOMETIMES STALLS UPON STARTING. THE NUTS IN THE DOOR LOOSEN EVERY TWO WEEKS AND MAKE A LOUD CLUNKING SOUND WHEN THEY ARE COMING LOOSE. THERE IS ALSO SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE POWER STEERING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000. UPDATE 09/10/08 *CW THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND WAS REPLACED, BUT IT STILL WAS NOT RIGHT. THE DRIVE SHAFT BEGAN TO UNUSUAL NOISES. UPDATED 09/10/08. *JB
REPLACEMENT DEALING WITH STEERING PROBLEMS SINCE 2006, BRAKES, PANORAMIC ROOF LEAKING AND CONSTANT RATTLING, MOLDING CAME OFF PASSENGER DOOR, IGNITION CONSTANTLY TURNING OVER SOMETIME STARTING AND SOMETIMES NOT, CAR CONSTANTLY OUT OF LINING, TRUNK SOMETIMES OPEN AND SOMETIMES DO NOT, AND SPEEDOMETER NOT REGISTERING. *TR
MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED OCTOBER 3RD, 2006, AS A DEMO VEHICLE WITH APPROXIMATELY 9,000 MILES. BEGININNING AT END OF DECEMBER MY HEATER/AIR CAME ON ITSELF AND RUNNING ON HIGH. UNIT WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WHILE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP & KEPT APPROX 3 DAYS AND REPLACED COMPLETE HEAT/AIR UNIT. BEGINNING IN JANUARY MY CONSOLE LIGHTS COME OFF AND ON ON A REGULAR BASIS. ALL GUAGES GO TO ZERO AND ALL LIGHTS IN CONSOLE LIGHT UP. VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND CONSOLE WAS REPLACED. THIS DID NOT RESOLVE PROBLEM AND STARTING DOING AGAIN THE THE VERY NEXT DAY. KEPT FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK AND HAVE TAKEN BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT TWO TECHNICIANS HAVE CHECKED VEHICLE AND THEY CAN'T RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. AT 18,998 MILES VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND DETERMINED ROTORS WERE FAILING. THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE ROTORS BUT TURNED THEM AND SAID IF THAT FAILED BEFORE WARRANTY EXPIRES THEY WOULD POSSIBLY REPLACE
2006 PONTIAC G6 MAKES A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM STEERING COLUMN WHEN TURNING. POWER STEERING LIGHT THEN FLASHES AND LOCKS UP, CAUSING TOTAL LOSS OF CONTROL IN STEERING THE VEHICLE IN THE SNOW. *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT STATES THAT THE WEATHER WAS OVERCAST WHILE DRIVING AND THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE SHE NOTICED A WHINING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. UPON LIFTING THE HOOD A CLOUD OF SMOKE AROSE. THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL, IMMEDIATELY THE BATTERY CABLE WAS IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECTED . THE CONTACT CALLED GENERAL MOTORS ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, THEY SENT OUT A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP.
FRONT OF CAR HIT A DEER GOING 55 MPH ON HIGHWAY. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MAJOR DAMAGE TO FRONT OF CAR AND THE AIRBAGS NEVER DID DEPLOY. LUCKILY HUSBAND WAS WEARING HIS SEAT BELT. *JB
I HAD SEVERAL TYPES OF ELECTRICAL FAILURES WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST ONE WAS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WAS RESET BY DEALER WITH NO CODES FOUND. THE NEXT WAS LOW COOLANT WARNING THAT WAS A DEFECTIVE WIRE AND REPAIRED. ANOTHER TIME THE VEHICLE SIMPLY WOULD NOT START AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. AFTER FILLING VEHICLE WITH GAS THE DASH PANEL WAS COMPLETELY OUT, VEHICLE RAN NORMAL. DEALER WAS AWARE THAT NO INSTRUMENTS WERE WORKING AND WAS UNABLE TO DETECT THE PROBLEM, NO CODES FOUND. DOME LIGHT NEVER WORKED AND WAS UNABLE TO BE FIXED. IN DECEMBER I STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT IN TRAFFIC AND SMELLED MELTING OR BURNING PLASTIC AND SECONDS LATER A SMALL CLOUD OF FOWL SCENTED SMOKE ENTERED THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I CALLED FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAITED FOR THE TOW TRUCK . WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED THE VEHICLE STARTED SMOKING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THEN CAUGHT FIRE. THE DAMAGE WAS NOT REPAIRABLE. AT THE TIME I WAS CERTIFIED PONTIAC RETAIL PROFESSIONAL AND AS OF NEW YEARS DAY HAD NOT BEEN GIVEN A RENTAL VEHICLE UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN THE LEAST BIT HELPFUL IN THE SITUATION AND AS A RESULT I HAVE SINCE LEFT MY JOB AS A GM SALES PROFESSIONAL. GM WILL NOT PROVIDE A RENTAL VEHICLE WHILE THEY DRAG THEIR FEET TO IDENTIFY THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. I HAVE WAITED UNTIL NEW YEARS DAY TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT TO GIVE GM AMPLE TIME TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *NM
SINCE ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I NOTICED HOW SHAKY THE CAR WOULD GET WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES GOING AT SPEEDS 60MPH OR FASTER. I HAVE REPLACED MY BRAKES TWICE AND THEY STILL SQUEAK AND SHAKE. MY HUSBAND IS GOING TO TRY TO HAVE MY ROTORS TURNED TO SEE IF THAT HELPS BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS. WITH THE POWER STEERING ISSUES AND THE BRAKE ISSUES, I REALLY FEEL LIKE PONTIAC HAS BUILT AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. *TR
WHEN BELOW 32 DEGREES THE SIDE WINDOWS WILL FREEZE IN THE UP POSITION ALLOWING THE DOORS TO OPEN BUT NOT SHUT COMPLETELY UNTIL THE WINDOWS HAVE WARMED UP AND/OR I RUN A CREDIT CARD ALONG THE WINDOW AND SEAL TO LOWER THEM. THE ABOVE IS WORSE WHEN SNOW/ICE IS PRESENT. *JB
WE OWN A 2006 PONTIAC G6, AND THE STEERING HAS BEEN ACTING UP ON A REGULAR BASIS REALLY BAD, IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED US TO WREAK TWICE NOW. IT GETS REALLY HARD ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL. *TR UPDATE: NO REPAIRS WERE MADE'SINCE REPORTING THIS INCIDENT THAT WAS THE LAST TIME IT ACTED UP!
I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT MY REAR DOORS ON MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 4-DOOR COUPE IS MISSING THE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS THAT THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES IT SHOULD HAVE AS A STANDARD FEATURE. HAVING 2 SMALL CHILDREN I FIND THIS FEATURE INCREDIBLY NECESSARY ON MY VEHICLE AND THOUGHT IT WAS A STANDARD ON ALL VEHICLES. AFTER FINDING THIS I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THAT CHILD SAFETY LOCKS WERE DISCONTINUED ON THE 2006 MODEL OF THIS CAR AND THEN REINSTATED IN 2007 MODELS. I FIND THIS BOGUS. *JB

I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE STARTING. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, BUT I'VE HAD THE CAR JUMP STARTED 3 TIMES. AT OTHER TIMES IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WILL CRANK. MY VEHICLE SQUEAKS WHEN I GO OVER BUMPS, EVEN REALLY SMALL ONES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP OVER 10 TIMES. MY SHOCKS WERE REPLACED, BUT A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER, IT WAS DOING IT AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED TWICE, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 48,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
THE EXACT SAME POWER STEERING PROBLEM LEADING TO THE RECALL OF THE PONTIAC G5 AND CHEVY COBALT HAS BEEN HAPPENING WITH THE PONTIAC G6 FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 4 YEARS!!!! I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 AND HAVE HAD THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM FOR AT LEAST 3 1/2 YEARS. I HAVE HAD THE STEERING COLUMN WITH TORQUE SENSOR REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $800 AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING ON THE VEHICLE. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA WHEN THIS FIRST HAPPENED AND SPOKE TO AN INVESTIGATOR, WHO I THINK RECOMMENDED THAT I SHOULD LUBE THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT OR SOME RIDICULOUS TWO-BIT FIX LIKE THAT!! I GUARANTEE THOUSANDS OF DRIVERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 PONTIAC G6 AND THAT IT IS A FUNDAMENTAL DESIGN FLAW IN GM'S ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. I'M NOT SURE WHAT ELSE I CAN DO EXCEPT CONTINUE TO MAKE THIS ISSUE KNOWN TO THE NHTSA IN THE HOPES THAT LIVES MAY NOT BE NEEDLESSLY LOST DUE TO INACTION ON THE AGENCY'S PART. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A RINGING NOISE AND NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTER THE ILLUMINATION, THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED AND BECAME INOPERABLE, WHICH CAUSED HIM TO COMPLETELY STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND, APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES LATER, THE STEERING BECAME OPERABLE AND THE CONTACT DROVE TO THE RESIDENCE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WOULD HAVE TO COMPLETELY FAIL IN ORDER FOR THEM TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CRIMP WIRING IN THE STEERING COLUMN FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE ELECTRICAL STEERING TO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURED STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS; THEREFORE, THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
2006 PONTIAC G6 TAKEN TO DEALER FOR NOISE IN FRONT WHEN STEERING. DEALER RETURNED VEHICLE STATING "THEY COULD FIND NOTHING." APPOX 2 MONTHS LATER VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK FOR SAME PROBLEM ONLY WORSE. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED WITH DEALERSHIP STATING THE RACK AND PINION NEED REPLACED ALONG WITH A RIGHT FRONT HUB (WHEEL BARING) BUT THE PARTS NEEDED ORDERED. ONE WEEK LATER DEALER CONTACTED AND STATED "PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER." THE VEHICLE IS HARD TO CONTROL WITH THESE PROBLEMS. LATER TOLD THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND PARTS CANNOT BE PRODUCED FAST ENOUGH TO CORRECT THEM ALL. SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED VEHICLE WAS OK TO DRIVE. *NM

I LEASED A 2006 G6 AND THERE'S BEEN A CONSTANT "CLUNK" IN STEERING COLUMN. ITS BEEN REPAIRED NUMEROUS TIMES AT THE DEALERSHIP. THERE HAS ALSO BEEN MANY "POWER STEERING" WARNING INDICATIONS ON THE DISPLAY UNIT INSIDE THE CAR. THE POWER STEERING ACTUALLY WENT OUT ON ONE OCCASION. THE ENTIRE STEERING MECHANISM HAS BEEN REPLACED BY THE DEALER AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND NOW THE DEALER WANTS ME TO PAY FOR REPAIRS AND FOR A RENTAL. RADIO AND DISPLAY DOES NOT ALWAYS COME ON WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED; DISPLAY IS DIM SOMETIMES TO THE POINT YOU CAN BARELY READ IT THEN IT COMES BACK BRIGHT ALL OF A SUDDEN, TIME AND TEMP CHANGES; THESE EVENTS ARE OCCURRING AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK IF NOT 2 -3 TIMES A WEEK; UNSURE OF THE EXACT DATE IT STARTED. DATE GIVEN IS THE FIRST RECORDED DATE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AT 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK HEAD ON IN THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. THE LEFT FRONTAL AIR BAG DEPLOYED, BUT THE FRONT SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT AND PHOTOS WERE TAKEN AND SEATBELTS WERE WORN. BOTH VEHICLES WERE TOTALED AND BOTH DRIVERS WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE INJURIES TO THE CONTACT INCLUDED A SMALL TEAR TO A TENDON IN THE LEFT SHOULDER AND A CONCUSSION WHICH CAUSED POST CONCUSSION SYNDROME. NO INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE ON THE OTHER DRIVER. THE ROADS WERE DRY AND CLEAR. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED.
I WAS DRIVING APPROX. 55-60 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, CROSSING THE CENTER LANE. IT REMAINED LOCKED FOR ABOUT 30 YARDS AND THEN RELEASED. *NM UPDATE (10/9/08): THE STEERING IS ELECTRICAL. THE STEERING WOULD NOT BUDGE...I WAS PULLING DOWN ON IT WITH EVERYTHING IN ME TO TRY TO GET IT BACK INTO MY LANE AND IT WOULD NOT MOVE. WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. OUT OF FEAR OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN AND GM UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, MY VEHICLE SAT FOR NEARLY 3 MONTHS BEFORE I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TAKE THE RISK AND DRIVE IT.
THE EXHAUST PIPE TIP ON MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 (STANDARD MODEL WITH V6) HAS A SHARP EDGE THAT CAN CUT AND INJURE SOMEONE WORKING ON THIS VEHICLE. THE SHARPNESS OF THE TIP AND ITS LOCATION NEAR THE REAR BUMPER CAN EASILY INJURE SOMEONE WHO IS HAND WASHING THE CAR. I LACERATED MY MIDDLE FINGER WHILE WASHING THE CAR IN THIS AREA WITH A SPONGE. IT WAS ALMOST DEEP ENOUGH TO REQUIRE STITCHES. IF I DIDN'T HAVE IMMEDIATE TRAVEL PLANS, I WOULD HAVE GONE TO THE DOCTOR AND HAD IT STITCHED UP. *JB
