CAR'S KEY FELT STUCK ONE DAY AND MADE THE CARD DO A "HARD" START WHERE THE IGNITION DIDN'T KICK OVER RIGHT AWAY. NOTICED RIGHT AFTER IGNITION PROBLEM THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS ONCE CAR WAS SHUT OFF. SMELL CONTINUED TO JUST GET STRONGER AND STRONGER OVER THE COURSE OF A WEEK. THERE IS NOW AN INTOXICATING SMELL OF GAS FUMES THAT SURROUND THE CAR WHEN PARKED. CANNOT PARK IN GARAGE ANY LONGER IN FEAR THAT THE FUMES WILL IGNITE WITH OUR GAS WATER HEATER WHICH IS ALSO HOUSED IN THE GARAGE. THREE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER FEELS LIGHT HEADED AND NAUSEATED WHEN GETTING IN THE CAR NOW, AND CAN NO LONGER USE IT ALTHOUGH IT IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE. IT GOES INTO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW DESPITE NOT HAVING ANY WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH IT HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED YET, I AM SURE IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM OTHERS ARE HAVING WITH THE CRACKED PIECE ABOVE THE GAS TANK. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL YET, BECAUSE THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER. I WOULD IMAGINE IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE'S G6 IGNITES AND CAUSES A HUGE FIRE AND EXPLOSION! *TR
I WAS ENTERING THE HIGHWAY ON THE ON RAMP, JUST AT THE END OF THE RAMP AND MERGING ON I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT GO OFF AND THEN HAD SHATTERED GLASS FLYING INTO MY FACE. I WAS JUST ABOUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET TO THE SHOULDER AND STOP. I INSPECTED WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND FOUND THAT MY SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED ON ME. GLASS WAS EVERYWHERE, INCLUDING ALL OVER ME. WHEN I ENTERED THE HIGHWAY THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OR BEHIND ME, OR ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I WAS MERGING, THEREFORE, NO ROCKS COULD HAVE HIT IT. THE SUNROOF WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME. A COUNTY SHERIFF PULLED UP BEHIND ME SHORTLY ON THE SHOULDER. HE STATED HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. I BRUSHED THE GLASS OFF OF ME THE BEST I COULD AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE SLOWLY ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY 4 WAYS ON TO THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP, TRYING NOT TO GET A GLASS SHARD IN MY EYE. WHEN AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY STATED THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT IN THE GARBAGE THEY THROW ENGINE BLOCKS ON TOP OF SUNROOFS TO TRY AND SHATTER THEM AND THEY NEVER DO. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND INSURANCE DOESN'T PAY FOR THIS. I HAD TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT OR BE UNABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR IN THE RAIN OR THE SNOWY WINTERS IN WISCONSIN.
BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON ALL TIME, THEN THEY GO OFF. CANT EVEN DRIVE IT FOR THE PAST WEEK NOW BECAUSE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON HAVE TAKEN IT INTO SHOP INCLUDING WHERE WE BOUGHT IT ,THEY DONT HAVE ANY IDEA WHATS WRONG WITH IT. THIS HAS BECOME A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND VERY FRUSTRATING, WE ARE AT A STAND STILL WITH THIS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE NOT APPLIED, BUT WOULD FAIL TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS, BUT THE FAILURES RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE IS NOT BEING DEPRESSED, WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL DISENGAGE. IF I THEN APPLY THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL GO OFF AND STAY OFF, EVEN IF I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. ALSO, WHILE IN MOTION, IF THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS, I CAN TAP THE BRAKES AND THE LIGHTS WILL GO OFF....I CAN THEN SET THE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN, AND IT WILL WORK FOR A FEW SECONDS UNTIL THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AGAIN. OTHER MOTORISTS HAVE TOLD ME MY BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WHILE I'M IN MOTION, AND GO OFF WHEN I STOP. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN, AND SOMEONE'S GOING TO BE INJURED. GM RECALLED 2005-2006 MODELS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE, BUT DIDN'T EXTEND IT TO 2007 MODELS. HOWEVER, I'VE READ NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF THIS ISSUE HAPPENING IN 2007 MODELS. CAN'T SOMETHING PLEASE BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT? I'M BRINGING IT IN AS I'M AFRAID TO KEEP DRIVING IT THIS WAY, AND WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THEM FIX IT, BUT I'VE HEARD THE FIX IS ONLY TEMPORARY, AND I'LL HAVE TO BRING IT BACK MANY TIMES. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WITHOUT PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. BRAKE LIGHT MALFUNCTION CAUSES THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM TO WORK ERRATICALLY. *TR
MY 2007 PONTIAC G6 BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATING WHEN THE BRAKE IS NOT DEPRESSED. IT IS HARD TO ALSO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER FROM PARK AT TIMES. ALSO, AT THE SAME TIME MY BRAKES LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED OPERATING. I FEEL THE BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING IN THE OPPOSITE MANNER IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WHICH CAN LEAD OTHERS DRIVERS TO ALSO NOT BE SAFE. *TR
IN JUNE OF 2012, THE VEHICLE DID NOT START PROPERLY, IT HAD A LONG CRANK. THEN I STARTED NOTICING A FUEL SMELL IN MY GARAGE AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE ODOR GOT WORSE AND WAS APPARENT WHEN JUST SITTING. I HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED, DUE THE STRONG ODOR. THE GAS TANK WAS DROPPED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE PLASTIC PART ON THE FUEL PUMP WAS CRACKED. THE EXACT REPLACEMENT PART WAS UNAVAILBLE AT THIS TIME; DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE PART. SO THE DEALERSHIP SOLD MY MECHANIC A MORE EXPENSIVE PUMP, ONE THAT INCLUDED REPAIR FOR THE ODOMETER. AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME.THE TOTAL COST WAS $988.88. I HAVE THE CRACKED FUEL PUMP IN MY GARAGE. I HAVE CONTACTED GM TO NO AVAIL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ACTIVATED, THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BECAME INOPERATIVE. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT BULB HAD BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES SINCE JULY OF 2012. RECENTLY, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHT SOCKET HAD BECOME COMPLETELY MELTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
A YEAR AGO DURING VERY HOT WEATHER IN WI THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT WORK. AFTER THE HEAT SUBSIDED THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKED AGAIN REGULARLY. IN THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT WORKING AGAIN. FRIENDS FOLLOWING ME ONE DAY SAID MY BRAKE LIGHTS SEEMED TO BE ON WHEN DRIVING AND OFF WHEN BRAKING. A LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH AFTER RECEIVING THE CODE DURING A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. I WAS INFORMED HE COULD NOT TROUBLESHOOT THE CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE SEEN BY A DEALER. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING IF OTHER DRIVERS CANNOT SEE I'M BRAKING WHEN FOLLOWING. WHAT IS BEING DONE TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM THAT APPEARS TO BE A NUISANCE FOR MANY OTHERS? *TR
WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK, THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL AUTOMATICALLY COME ON AFTER ABOUT 3-5 SECONDS WITHOUT PRESSING THE PEDAL. WHILE DRIVING, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL STAY ON UNTIL APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL THEN TURN OFF WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED. ON MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES, I HAVE HAD OTHER DRIVERS FLAG ME DOWN WHILE ON THE ROAD TO TELL ME ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT SINCE THE DRIVER BEHIND YOU WILL HAVE NO INDICATION YOU ARE SLOWING DOWN SINCE PRESSING THE BRAKE TURNS OFF THE BRAKE LIGHTS. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 2 YEARS NOW AND IS BECOMING UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM CONSTANTLY WORRIED DRIVING AT NIGHTS BECAUSE THE RISK FOR BEING REAR ENDED IS VERY HIGH. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND REQUEST THE NHTSA RECALL THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. ALSO, THE CAR GETS STUCK IN PARK AFTER STARTING THE CAR. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE CAR OUT OF PARK IS TO REPEATEDLY PRESS THE BRAKE TO UNLOCK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS ADVISED BY A MECHANIC WHILE HAVING THE TIRES CHANGED THAT THE ALIGNMENT OF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ACCURATE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED WITH A CHAMBER ALIGNMENT KIT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,356.
6/11/12; WHEN STARTING AUTO, LONG CRANK, GOT BATTERY REPLACED, BUT NOTICED A FUEL SMELL IN THE GARAGE. ON 7/12/2012, AFTER CONTINUED PROBLEMS WITH STARTING CAR AND INCREASED FUEL SMELL IN GARAGE, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HILLES UNION 76 AND ALLOWED TO SIT OVERNIGHT. IT WOULD ONLY HAVE CRANK PROBLEM AFTER SITTING FOR AWHILE. MECHANIC NOTICED SEVERE FUEL ODOR AND REQUESTED TO DROP GAS TANK DUE TO POSSIBLE FUEL LEAK. THE FUEL PUMP WAS FOUND TO HAVE A CRACK IN THE PLASTIC PIECE IN THE CENTER. HILLES UNION 76 ORDERED THE FUEL PUMP FROM JESSUP MOTORS IN CATHEDRAL CITY, CA. PART WAS REPLACED. THE COST OF REPLACEMENT & LABOR WAS $988.00. I WENT TO THE INDIO GM AND SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT THIS PART. IT MADE NO SENSE THAT A FUEL PUMP WOULD GO OUT ON A VEHICLE WITH 45,000 MILES ON IT! HE TOLD ME, "IT WAS NORMAL". I DID NOT BELIEVE THAT AND HAD FULL INTENTION OF CONTACTING GM WITH THIS COMPLAINT. SO I KEPT THE CRACKED FUEL PUMP!TO THIS POINT GM IS NOT AGREEING THAT THIS VEHICLE IS PART OF RECALL, IT CLEARLY IS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON FIVE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 124,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERS WHO NOTICED THE CONNECTION WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO CLEAN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THIS TIME THE CRUISE CONTROL BECAME INOPERABLE AS WELL. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
ELECTRICAL SPASMS. ALL GAUGES(INCLUDING SPEEDOMETER AND TAC) FLAKE OUT, BOUNCE AROUND, GO TO ZERO. TRACTION CONTROL SHUTS DOWN. HVAC ELECTRICAL GOES OUT. NO WAY TO SEE OUT WINDSHIELD AS DEFROST WILL NOT WORK WHEN THIS OCCURS. WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AN OFF AND ON AGAIN ETC. THIS CAN OCCUR WHEN DRIVING OR STATIONARY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL OCCUR. VERY UNSAFE AND RELATES VERY WELL WITH RECALL ALREADY MADE BY GM ON 05/15/2014 FOR 2007 G6 BUT NOT FOR MY G6??? HOW??? I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING THIS FOR MANY YEARS AND CAN'T GET THEM TO TAKE CARE OF IT PROPERLY. DEALER DID ACTUALLY FIX ONE PROBLEM ONCE WHEN THE BLOWER FAN WOULD COME ON WHENEVER IT FELT LIKE IT EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS OFF, KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, DOORS LOCKED, AND US WALKING AWAY. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE HAD A FEW DEAD BATTERY INSTANCES. ACTUALLY HAD A DEALER AND GM INVOLVED. DEALER WANTED TO HAVE A BLANK CHECK TO CONTINUE TO DO DIAGNOSTICS AFTER HAVING SEE THE PROBLEM AND EXTRACTED 17 ERROR CODES FROM THE VEHICLES COMPUTER. THEY COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT, ASKED GM WHO HAD NO IDEA, AND WANTED ME TO LET THEM DIAGNOSE WITH NO LIMIT. UNBELIEVABLE. MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM CAN BE FOUND ON THE INTERNET.
BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WHILE PRESSING GAS...WHEN PRESSING BRAKE THEY SHUT OFF. WHEN THIS PROBLEM IS OCCURRING YOU HAVE TO PRESS REAL HARD TO GET OUT OF PARK TO DRIVE. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WHICH WHERE THE BRAKE LIGHTS DOESN'T WARN OTHER DRIVERS WHEN STOPPING WHICH COULD LEAD TO A CRASH. THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY ACCIDENTS REPORTED YET WHAT I HAVE READ BUT I DO BELIEVE THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED BEFORE YOU DO HAVE A ACCIDENT. I WOULD HATE TO SEE THIS NOT GET RECALLED AND KILL SOMEONE OVER A SIMPLE FIX. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME WITH MY BROTHER FOLLOWING ME IN A SEPARATE CAR, HE TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY CAR WERE ON THE WHOLE TIME, ONLY TURNING OFF WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES (BRIEFLY) BEFORE TURNING BACK ON. I HAVE NOTICED THIS WHEN I START THE CAR VIA REMOTE (THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND CHMSL ARE ON) AND IN REFLECTIONS AS I DRIVE... IF I APPLY THE BRAKES HARD, THE LIGHTS WILL GO OFF BRIEFLY, BUT COME BACK ON AS I DRIVE. I DO NOT DRIVE WITH ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM I HAVE BEEN NOTICING. THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY INCIDENTS WITH OTHER VEHICLES (I'M ASSUMING THEY'RE KEEPING FAR AWAY BECAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON), AND I AM AWARE OF THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION INTO THE CHEVROLET MALIBU FROM THAT YEAR FOR THE SAME ISSUE. MY CAR IS A 2007 PONTIAC G6 GT CONVERTIBLE. AS WELL, THE STABILITY CONTROL (THE GT CONVERTIBLES WERE EQUIPPED WITH IT) INTERMITTENTLY COMES ON WITH AN ERROR MESSAGE... THE DEALER HAS USED A SCANNER TO CHECK THE PROBLEM, BUT NOTHING HAS REGISTERED IN THE COMPUTER HISTORY. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THERE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS DIFFICULTY IN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, WHICH REQUIRED FORCE IN ORDER TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THE FAILURE RECURRED SIX TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM HAS COOLANT LEAKING. REPLACE THE CROSSOVER GASKET. THE CAR IS RUNNING HOT AND NOT DRIVABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF AND ON REGARDLESS IF THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 156,000.
BACK IN JUNE 2012 I NOTICED THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT ON THE RIGHT WAS OUT SO I TOOK IT INTO THE LOCAL SHOP FOR REPAIR. THE SHOP REPLACED BOTH BULBS. APPROXIMATELY FOUR TO FIVE MONTHS LATER I NOTICED THE SAME BULB WAS OUT AGAIN AND TOOK THE SAME ACTIONS. I REPLACED THE BULB. AROUND FEBRUARY 2013 I NOTICED THE BULB WAS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY AND FLICKERING ON AND OFF. THE LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON DURING NORMAL OPERATION SO I WOULD POP THE HEADLIGHT CASING. AT THAT POINT THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON BUT AFTER DRIVING A FEW MILES I NOTICED THE LIGHT WAS OFF AGAIN! AT THIS POINT I HAVE JUST STARTED DRIVING WITH MY HIGH BEAMS JUST TO ENSURE I WAS ABLE TO SEE BECAUSE I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA. I RECENTLY RECEIVED TWO TRAFFIC CITATIONS FOR USING THE HIGH BEAMS AND DRIVING WITH FAULTY EQUIPMENT. I HAVE READ SEVERAL ONLINE POSTS THAT GAVE THE IMPRESSION THAT OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE LOW BEAMS ON THEIR G6 VEHICLES. IS THERE SOME SORT OF RECALL ON THESE BULBS OR THE WIRING THAT THE BULBS STREAM INTO? IF YES, PLEASE, PLEASE ADVISE. I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS SOMEONE ELSE WHO POSTED IN MAY 2011. MY HUSBAND CAME HOME TODAY, PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY. PUT THE CAR IN PARK, REMOVED THE KEY OPENED THE DOOR AND STOOD UP TO GET OUT AND NEARLY GOT RUN OVER WHEN THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARDS AND TOWARDS ARE NEIGHBORS YARD. YOU CAN MOVE THE SHIFTER EASILY (WITHOUT OUT ANY STOPS) THROUGH 2ND GEAR ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO PARK. HE CAN MANUALLY FIX THE ISSUE BY REACHING DOWN AND TUGGING ON THE SHIFTER ROD, BUT IT IS ONLY TEMPORARY AS SOON AS YOU START THE CAR BACK UP, AND MOVE IT, THE CAR DOESN'T RECOGNIZE ANY GEAR. A HAIRLINE CRACK DEVELOPED IN THE PLASTIC ELBOW CONNECTING THE INTEGRAL FUEL PUMP/GAS TANK FUEL LINES TO THE ENGINE. THIS ELBOW CONNECTS A FUEL LINE WHICH IS PRESSURIZED BOTH WITH THE VEHICLE OPERATING (ABOUT 60 PSI) AND AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN TURNED OFF AS THE FUEL SYSTEM BLEEDS THIS OPERATING PRESSURE. THE PRESSURE FORCIBLY EJECTS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE GASOLINE LIQUID AND VAPOR INTO THE AREA IMMEDIATELY ABOVE EXTREMELY HOT EXHAUST PIPES. WHEN GARAGED, THESE VAPORS COMPLETELY FILL THE STRUCTURE WHICH HOUSES A GAS WATER HEATER AND FURNACE WITH RUNNING PILOT LIGHTS. NO VEHICLE ANNUNCIATION (E.G., CHECK ENGINE LIGHT), PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION (E.G., HARD STARTS), OR VISIBLE INDICATORS ALERT THE OWNER TO THIS POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC CONDITION. THE FUEL SMELL IS INITIALLY MISTAKEN FOR NORMAL EXHAUST FUMES AFTER PARKED UNTIL THE CRACK ENLARGES CAUSING THE GAS SMELL TO BECOME INTOLERABLE. DROVE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP WHO ADVISED ME THE ISSUE IS A COMMON ELECTRICAL FAILURE IN G6 MODELS AND THAT SEVERAL OTHER YEARS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE, BUT NOT 2007. DEALER ADVISED ME TO HOLD ON TO THE RECEIPT FOR REIMBURSEMENT IN THE EVENT THAT GM DOES RECALL THE 2007 MODEL. AFTER WAITING NEARLY TWO YEARS, I DECIDED TO ISSUE A LETTER TO GM REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT. ON 2/6/14 I WAS CONTACTED BY GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES WHO EXPLAINED A RECALL WAS NOT IN PLACE AND THEREFORE THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE. I WAS FURTHER ADVISED BY GM REPRESENTATIVE 'JOSEPH' THAT GM IS "NOT A CHARITY" AND THAT I WOULD JUST HAVE TO "DEAL WITH IT." IN A FINAL EFFORT TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE I REQUESTED A VOUCHER TOWARD A NEW GM PURCHASE INSTEAD OF REIMBURSEMENT AS SIGN OF GOOD-FAITH THAT GM WOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS; THIS REQUEST WAS ALSO DENIED. THE GM DEALERS BODY SHOP GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $2,000., BUT THAT MY AIR BAGS ARE OK AND DID NOT INCLUDE THEM ON THE QUOTE. I FIND THIS STRANGE SINCE MY DASH SAID TO SERVICE SOON. MY THOUGHT IS THAT THE AIR BAG TRIED TO DEPLOY EXSPELLING A TALC AROMA, AND SETTING OFF THE DASH BOARD WARNING LIGHTS, BUT MALFUNCTIONED AND REMAIN IN MY STEERING WHEEL.
