TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED AND A FIRE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V201000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, DUE TO THE EXTENT OF THE FIRE, AN INVESTIGATION COULD NOT BE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED.
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE, SHORTLY AFTER I BROUGHT IT IN TO MIDAS TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, AFTER I WAS TOLD EXTREMELY BAD NEWS THAT MY VEHICLE HAD SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS AND IT WAS GOING TO COST A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX IT BUT LUCKILY IT'S UNDER A SAFETY RECALL FOR MY MODEL MAKE AND YEAR, ALTHOUGH WHEN I TOOK IT IN TO MERIT CHEVROLET I DISCUSSED MY CONCERNS WITH THEM ABOUT MY VEHICLE AND HOW A LOT OF THE THINGS DISCOVERED WRONG WITH IT, HAD TO DO WITH MULTIPLE OF THE RECALLS. THE CONVERSATION GOT NOWHERE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT SINCE MY VIN NUMBER WASN'T ON THE RECALL THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE PROBLEMS DISCOVERED TO BE RELATED TO THE RECALLS I WAS TOLD WERE RELATED AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING I CAN DO, UNLESS I WANTED TO CALL GM CUSTOMER SERVICE. AT THIS POINT I'M VERY FRUSTERATED AND HAVE ALREADY SPENT SO MUCH MONEY ON THIS VEHICLE AND NOW I'M BEING TOLD THAT ALTHOUGH EACH PROBLEM I'M HAVING IS SPECIFIED FOR MY YEAR MAKE AND MODEL I'M UNABLE TO BE HELPED. SO ALSO SAYING THAT LATER WHEN THIS KILLS ME, IT WILL REMAIN NOT IMPORTANT. I HAVE THE NHTSA #'S OF EVERY PROBLEM I AM EXPERIENCING... 15V7010000, 05V046000, 04V299000, 04V287000, 03V331000 AND IF SOMEONE COULD TAKE ME AND THE ISSUES THAT MY CAR IS HAVING SERIOUSLY I'D LOVE TO BRING IT IN. MERIT CHEVROLET MIGHT HAVE SWITCHED THE VALVE COVER, BUT THEY DID NOTHING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE OF ENGINE OIL LEAKING IN MY MANIFOLD. I ARRIVED THERE AND LEFT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND SAFETY HAZARD. MY ENGINE IS STILL AT RISK OF IGNITING FIRE AND YOU'D THINK IF SOMEONE IS GOING TO FIX A PROBLEM, THEY WOULD FIX THE PROBLEMS THAT HAVE RESULTED FROM THAT PROBLEM BECAUSE MY LIFE IS STILL AT RISK. (ALSO I WAS UNABLE TO SELECT MORE THAN 3 AFFECTED PARTS, AND THE ONE MORE AFFECTED IS THE STEERING)

UPON INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED FIRE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AND WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V201000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED SMOKE AND FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND CONFIRMED THE FIRE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ENGINE OIL LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V701000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 260,000.

CAR WAS PARKED - ENGINE NOT RUNNING - IN A VALID PARKING SPOT ALONG A CITY STREET. NOTICED SMOKE AND FIRE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. CALLED 911. FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT OUT FIRE. ENGINE COMPARTMENT HAD BEEN COMPLETELY ENGULFED AND WAS DESTROYED. AFTER THE FIRE, WAS TOLD TO CHECK ON THE INTERNET FOR SAFETY RECALL ABOUT ENGINE FIRES IN PONTIACS. FOUND RECALL #15V701000 GM RECALL # 15757 WHICH WAS ISSUED OCT-2015 AND BEGAN 2-19-2016. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING CONCERNING THIS RECALL TO DATE.

ON MARCH 16TH 2016 WHILE ON THE WAY TO A DOCTORS APPT. WE TRIED TO USED THE RIGHT REAR SEAT BELT,HOWEVER WE COULD NOT GET THE SEAT BELT TO PULL OUT SO WE COULD USE IT. ON THE WAY TO THE DRS. OFFICE WE SMELLED A STRONG ODOR OF OIL AND ANTIFREEZE IN THE CAR. WHEN WE GOT TO DRS. OFFICE WE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. SO WE LET THE CAR SIT THERE UNTIL AFTER THE APPT. WHEN WE GOT BACK TO CAR WE CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND COULD NOT FIND ANY OIL OF WATER LEAK, SO MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ME BACK HOME WHEN THE CAR COMPLETELY CUT OFF AND STOPPED RUNNING,SHE HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AT ALL. SO I HELPED HE TURN THE CAR OFF TO ROAD TO THE SHOULDER UNTIL IT STOPPED. AFTER LOOKING I NOTICED THE KEY WAS IN THE OFF POSITION, I TRIED TO START THE CAR AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP I DROVE THE CAR ON HOME, AND THAT'S WHERE IT SITS NOW!!! PLEASE HELP!!! IT CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. I HAD JUST GOT BACK FROM THE STORE, ABOUT A 6 MILE TRIP, WHEN IT HAPPENED. I HAD BEEN HOME LESS 5 MINUTES WHEN I NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WE TRIED PUTTING IT OUT BUT IT WAS TOO LATE. THE CAR WAS IN GOOD RUNNING ORDER AND DIDN'T SHOW ANY SIGNS AT ALL THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE. NO SYSTEM WARNINGS WENT OFF, IT WAS RECENTLY SERVICED. THE CAR RAN PERFECT EVERYDAY. I THEN LEARNED OF THE RECALL ON IT BUT WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF RECALL. IT WAS REGISTERED IN MY NAME. WHEN I GOT OUT OF MY CAR MOMENTS BEFORE THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF A FIRE. NO NOISE, OR SMOKE, OR CHANCE IN HOW IT RAN. IT HAD NEVER CAUGHT ON FIRE BEFORE OR SHOWED SIGN OF ISSUES. I WAS NOTIFIED THAT MY 2004 GRAND PRIX WAS UNDER RECALL 14574. MY QUESTION INVOLVES OWNER RESPONSIBILITY. THIS VEHICLE IS 12 YEARS OLD AND HAS 235,000 MILES ON THE FACTORY ENGINE. AT WHAT POINT IS THE INDIVIDUAL OWNER RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS OR HER OWN MAINTENANCE. VIRTUALLY EVERY V DESIGN ENGINE IS SUSPECT TO FLUIDS COLLECTING IN THE VALLEY BETWEEN THE HEADS. HEART FELT SORROW GOES OUT TO ANYONE THAT HAS EXPERIENCED LOSS DUE TO OIL CATCHING FIRE, BUT IS IT NOT AN AUTOMOBILE OWNER'S INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY TO MAINTAIN A SAFE VEHICLE? AT WHAT POINT IS THE OEM RELEASED FROM RESPONSIBILITY OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ITEMS? I ASSURE YOU THAT MY 2004 GRAND PRIX WILL NOT HAVE THIS RECALL PERFORMED BECAUSE I AM A RESPONSIBLE OWNER AND I MAINTAIN A SAFE AND FUNCTIONAL VEHICLE. MY HEAT/AIR CONDITIONING HAS GONE OUT TWICE. IT WILL ONLY WORK IF THE FAN IS WIDE OPEN AND WILL NOT CUT OFF ONCE YOU TURN THE SWITCH OFF, THEREFORE DRAINING THE BATTERY. ALSO, EVERY TIME IT RAINS MY PASSENGER FLOOR BOARDS FRONT AND BACK ARE SATURATED WITH WATER. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE FACT I HAVE NO WAY TO DEFROST MY WINDOWS IN THE WINTERTIME AND CAN'T SEE TO DRIVE. I'M SURE THE FLOODING HAS SOMETHING TO DUE WITH SHORTING OUT THE BLOWER ON MY AIR/HEAT.I DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO CONTINUE TO PAY TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. ONCE SHOULD BE ENOUGH.
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY HEARD A CLICK AS IF KEY HAD BEEN TURNED ON IGNITION SWITCH. CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST ALL POWER, RADIO, POWER STEERING AND ABS. WAS ABLE TO GUIDE CAR TO SHOULDER, AVOIDING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS IS 2ND OCCURRENCE AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF THIS PROBLEM. KEYS RECEIVED RECALL RETROFIT BUT THIS APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO INITIAL PROBLEMS DESCRIBED IN ORIGINAL RECALL. *JS

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES PER HOUR, STEERING WHEEL BECAME TIGHT THEN LOCKED WHILE IN MOTION. I BRAKED IMMEDIATELY FOUGHT WHEEL TO PARK ON SIDE OF STREET, SAME TIME "CHARGING SYSTEM FAILURE" NOTIFICATION CAME ON. I PLUGGED DIAGNOSTIC READER NO CODES COME UP. CHECKED SERPENTINE BELT, VISUAL CHECK UNDERHOOD, NOTHING OUT OF PLACE. OIL CHANGE, TUNE UP AND MINOR WORK DONE RECENTLY HOWEVER, THIS ISSUE WAS SUDDEN AND CANNOT BE DETECTED. AFRAID FOR MY LIFE AS I REGULARLY TAKE HIGHWAY FOR TRAVEL. RECALLED FOR CODE 14574 LAST WEEK, WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF LOCAL MECHANIC"SIMMONS-ROCKWELL BIG FLATS N.Y. IS SCHEDULED TO REPAIR CODE 14574 TUESDAY DEC.29, AT 930AM WOULD APPRECIATE IF SAME MECHANIC COULD BE COMPENSATED TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. SAID MECHANIC DID REPAIR KEY CODE FOR OTHER RECALL AND ONLY GM DEALER IN TOWN.
CAR HAD KEY RETROFIT BY DEALER BUT IGNITION SWITCH IS TURNING OFF WHILE CAR IS IN DRIVE AT FULL POWER. IT IS IF THE KEY IS BEING TURNED OFF. ALL POWER TO VEHICLE IS LOST. OBVIOUSLY THE KEY RETROFIT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THE IGNITION SWITCH ITSELF IS THE ISSUE.

AS PART OF THE PLANS STATED IN THEIR LETTER, THEY WILL BE PERMANENTLY REMOVING AN OIL FILL EXTENSION AND ENGINE "BEAUTY" COVER DURING THIS RECALL. WE HAVE SPOKEN TO GM RECALL PHONE NUMBER ABOUT OUR DISSATISFACTION WITH THE PLAN TO PERMANENTLY REMOVE THE ENGINE COVER. WE SEE THAT AS LOWERING THE VALUE OF THE CAR. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THEY CAN FIX THE PROBLEM WITHOUT REMOVING THE COVER, AND THEY ARE JUST DOING IT CHEAPER THIS WAY. I WAS PARKED AT A RED LIGHT THEN I NOTICE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF MY CAR SO I DECIDED TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY INTO A HALF EMPTY PARKING LOT AND QUICKLY PUT MY CAR IN PARK IN POP THE HOOD, AS SOON AS I OPEN IT FLAMES SHOT RIGHT AT ME, I QUICKLY SHUT THE HOOD IN TOLD MY GIRLFRIEND TO GET OUT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS ON FIRE, I RAN TO A NEAR BY AUTO BODY SHOP IN GOT A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN PUT THE FIRE OUT. MIND YOU THIS WAS A WEEK AGO AND IM JUST NOW RECIEVING THIS RECALL LETTER. MY LIFE WAS IN DANGER AND ALSO MY PASSENGER. IAM GLAD MY DAUGHTER WASNT IN THE CAR WHEN THIS HAPPEN . WHEN DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, I WAS IN THE CENTER LANE OF THE HIGHWAY, WHEN THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER IN MY 04 GRAND PRIX, THE DISPLAY SHOWED "LOSS OF POWER TO THE ENGINE" THERE WERE TRUCKS ON EITHER SIDE, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BY DODGING THE VEHICLES COMING UP BEHIND ME. I CALLED MY MECHANIC AND EXPLAIN THE CONDITION, HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG BECAUSE HE SAID HE FIXES THEM ALL THE TIME. THE SPEED SENSOR IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL LOSSES CONNECTION WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND LOSS OF POWER IS THE RESULT. IF THIS SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED ON A TOYOTA THEY WOULD HAVE RECALLED THE VEHICLES AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. I GUESS GM HAS ENOUGH PROBLEMS OR MAYBE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE DIED TO MAKE THIS A GM SAFETY PRIORITY.
