Rear differential fluid leak The 07204 recall pertains to certain Pontiac vehicles, specifically the 2007 Pontiac Solstice, where a faulty rear axle pinion seal may leak, potentially causing a loss of motive power and increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the pinion seal free of charge, and the recall began on February 1, 2008. The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac Solstice. The contact stated the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V061000 (Air Bags). The vehicle was repaired under the recall; however, DTC: B008171 (Passenger air bag Suppression System) warning light remained illuminated. The contact stated that the warning light was illuminated prior to the recall repair being performed. The vehicle remained at the dealer; however, no further repairs were made. The dealer suggested that additional diagnostic tests were needed to determine the cause of the warning light being illuminated. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
This is a known failure and a previous recall. The PPS system is a failed design and breaks continuously. Look at all the complaints you have received. This is extremely dangerous and GM should not be allowed to dismiss. Will it take deaths or lawsuits for GM to respond? This is the reason the NHTSA exists. GM needs to be directed to fix with a permanent solution when it involves the failure of airbags to deploy.
I bought a 2007 Pontiac Solstice recently from an individual. I saw online that there was an airbag recall. I called my local Chevy dealer and they ordered the recall kit. I brought the car in and they did the fix. However, the airbag, on the passenger side, problem still existed. Sometimes, when my 110 lb. wife got in the passenger side, the airbag would read "ON", and sometimes it would not. So I took my car back to the dealer today. The service manager showed me a bulletin from General Motors, that said the passenger, had to weigh at least 150 lbs. for the airbag to work. I feel this is a real safety concern and need to know how to get this safety issue resolved.

While applying the brakes the car down shifts hard, locking up and jerking. Many others had reported this problem in online forums. Stating a power train or module issue. Very dangerous not knowing if your car my jerk into someone or something out of your control.
New in 2007 Pontiac Solstice. In May of 2018 the recall 17036 was completed at 28,000 after waiting several months for the solution and then several months for the part to arrive. PPS passenger seat weighted sensor module failed again August 2023 at 36,000 miles. Repair only lasted 8,000 miles. I was told this module controls the passenger seat air bag. I was also told that if module fails the passenger seat air bag will not deploy putting the passenger in an unsafe position. The passenger present light will be off when seat is occupied. The DIC (information display) will only read service air bag until the fault code is corrected. I use this to mainly to monitor coolant temperature of the engine although it has other functions. There will also be a red warning light on in the middle of the dash cluster. Visiting the forums there are many on their third and fourth repair. The recall should be reopened. One quote I received was for over $ 1,200. I do not feel I should have to pay out of pocket for a safety issue. In order to protect my passenger that is why I paid to have the recalled part replaced again. Your passenger is also your lifeline. Yes, I know it is out of warranty on this Safety incident. Many say the manufacturer should cover the safety issues. I feel dealership should cover this expensive safety issue at the directive of manufacturer.
This is the second time the passenger airbag has stopped working. The first incident the airbag was recalled and GM installed a new one. The new airbag worked for a few years, until approximately four months ago (approx November 2022) when the airbag sensor light began staying on.
The airbag sensor in the passenger seat has been recalled before, their only fix was to wrap it in tape, which does not solve the issue, this is a continuing problem for owners of kappa platform cars (Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, etc.) for years and gm continues to ignore it, it is absolutely a safety issue due to the exorbitant price of the fix many people will just continue to drive the vehicle with no functioning passenger airbag.
When I was slowing down to come to a stop at 15-20mph it suddenly hard shifted and jerked like the brakes came on but I did not have my foot on the brake. The back tires squealed like they locked up or something. Lucky no one was behind me or I may have gotten rear ended. My care has 50K miles and this is the first time this has happened. I drove straight home and it did it 4-5 times more on the way home? Any ideas as to what the problem may be? This is definitely a safety issue. From what I have read this looks like this has been an ongoing issue for awhile.. Has this issue been looked at before? If so, what is the resolutions?
gm recall March 2017 #17036 changed out a defective passenger presence module and now 5 years later the same switch went out again but repair shop said its not covered by any recalls. The vehicle has 60538 miles and is not a daily driver as I have 4 vehicles and very rarely carry any passengers. I feel like the switch replaced was still defective and should be covered by gm. it cost me $980.95 to replace it.
The airbag safety indicator shows a fault, indicating the passenger airbag is not operational. I researched the cause since we have no local GM dealers and the forums show this issue was addressed by a recall notice. However, this care was not part of that recall. I will be happy to have it inspected but don't want to pay the outrageous prices for a dealer inspection, especially since the closest shop is 25 miles away and I don't want it left outside (never been in rain).
Passenger Presence System Issue Started Solstice in garage and backed out on to driveway (PPS indicates passenger air bag off. This is Correct) Stop car on driveway and put transmission in park. Passenger enters vehicle sits down and buckles belt. (PPS indicates passenger air bag off This is incorrect) Back out of driveway and put in Drive. PPS still indicates no passenger This is incorrect. Stop car put in park. PPS still indicates no passenger. Turn off ignition and restart car. PPS reads passenger in car and AirBag armed This is correct. Originally noticed on July 2, 2021, Repeated on July 9th. If both passengers start out in car system works correctly. If passenger enters after car is started and moved it doesn't recognize passenger presence unless ignition is recycled. Recall repair was performed 11 May 2018 at 13635 miles.

WHILE DRIVING TO MY SONS HOUSE, THE ENGINE STOPPED. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT FAR FROM THE HOUSE AND WAS ABLE TO COAST IN. I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE SO I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY HOUSE. I CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL GM DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT I WAS UP TO DATE ON THE RECALLS. A MECHANIC CHECKED THE CAR. IT SEEMS THAT THE NEW IGNITION SWITCH IS FAULTY AS WELL

The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated they needed to order parts for a switch for the passenger’s side air bag failure. The contact stated that the dealer informed him that they would order the parts and contact him when the parts arrived. The contact stated that he had been waiting for several months. The contact stated that he notified the manufacturer of the failure and they called the dealer who stated that they were still waiting for the parts. The contact stated that this was over 6-months ago. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V061000 (Air Bags) however, the parts were not available for the repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

MY CAR DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THERE IS A PERSON SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SO IT SHOWS THE AIRBAG AS BEING "OFF" BECAUSE THE PRESSURE SENSOR IN THE SEAT IS BAD

Service Air Bag warning light is on for passenger seat. Had the PPM replaced and still does not work. Dealer said I need to replace the Front Impact Sensor. Is this covered on a recall? The cost is almost $500.
PASSENGER PRESENCE SENSOR HAS BEEN REPAIRED (NOT REPLACED) UNDER PREVIOUS NHTSA RECALL. HOWEVER THE SENSOR STILL DOES NOT ALWAYS FUNCTION PROPERLY AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT INDICATES "OFF" WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT. THERE ARE NO FURTHER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE HAS AN OPEN RECALL 17V061 FOR THE PPS. THE DEALER- PATRICK LOCATED AT 4700 W. HENRIETTA RD, NY 14467 REPLACED THE REINFORCEMENT STRIP AND MAT FOR PASSENGER SIDE SEAT PER THE RECALL. AFTER COMPLETING THESE STEPS, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF LIGHT IS STILL ILLUMINATED AND THE SERVICE AIR BAG MESSAGE APPEARS ON THE CONSOLE. BOTH GM AND PATRICK REFUSE TO COVER ANY FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS UNDER THE RECALL ALTHOUGH THE SERVICES THEY PERFORMED DID NOT RESOLVE THE ERROR MESSAGES. THE DEALER HAS CLOSED OUT THE RECALL AND GM'S CUSTOMER SUPPORT GROUP WILL NOT COVER ANY FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS OR REPAIRS.
I HAVE AN AIRBAG LIGHT THAT CAME ON AND THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS ALWAYS OFF. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP. COST FOR FIX IS OVER $1000. MY CAR LURCHES OR DOWNSHIFT WHILE NORMAL DRIVING. THIS CAUSES IT HARD TO CONTROL. PREVIOUS RECALLS ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAVE BEEN FOR POWER TRAIN. HOWEVER MY VIN #DOESN'T QUALIFY. THIS IS A MISTAKE. I WAS HIGHWAY AND CITY DRIVING WHEN IT OCCURRED. NORMAL
I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM THE DOCTOR ON THE HIGHWAY AND A GIRL DIDN'T SEE OR STOP AT THE STOP SIGN. I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP AS SHE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND I HIT HER BROADSIDE AT 70MPH. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT WORK PROPERLY CAUSING THE ENGINE TO ALMOST COME THROUGH TO MY LAP. I SUFFERED EXTENSIVE INJURIES DUE TO THIS AND HAD TO BE AIR MED'D TO NEW ORLEANS TRAUMA HOSPITAL DUE TO THIS. WAITING WITH NO RESPONSE REGARDING WHEN PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. SO WE HAVE NO AIRBAG FOR AN ADULT PASSENGER WITH NO PROJECTED RESOLUTION.

FIRST THIS ISSUE STARTED WITH MY TORQUE CONVERTER I MISSED RECALL BY MONTHS WHEN THAT WAS FIXED I TOOK IT BACK BECAUSE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT WORKING NOR WAS THE MILEAGE INDICATOR WAS NOT WORKING AND IT WOULD STAY N LOW GEAR SO I TOOK IT BACK T TRANSMISSION SHOP THEY SAID THE COMPUTER HAD WATER IN IT IT APPEARED T THEM IT SHOULD B A RECALL BECAUSE THE FRAME THE COMPUTER WAS SITTING ON WAS STRAIGHT NOT AT A ANGLE CAUSING WATER T GET IN COMPUTER. NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER:17V061 THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE FAULT AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS ON APRIL 14, 2018. DUE TO VIRGINIA STATE LAW AND INSPECTIONS THE CAR IS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN ON THE STREET UNTIL REPAIRED. AS OF TODAY AFTER 90+ DAYS, THE VEHICLE HAS STILL NOT BEEN REPAIRED OR REMEDIED IN VIOLATION OF 49 U.S. CODE 30120. AT NO POINT HAVE I BEEN GIVEN A LOANER VEHICLE, AN ESTIMATED TIME OF REPAIR, OR EVEN WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE, DESPITE NUMEROUS TROUBLE TICKETS WITH THE DEALER, GM, AND PONTIAC.
MY VEHICLE HAS AN ACTIVE RECALL FOR THE PPS SYSTEM WHICH IF IT DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY COULD CAUSE THE AIR BAG TO NOT ACTIVATE LEADING TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND GM DIRECTLY ON THIS SINCE APRIL 2018. THE DEALER TELLS ME GM KEEPS CANCELING THE PARTS ON ORDER FOR THE REPAIR AND GM TELLS ME THE DEALER IS ALL SET TO MAKE THE REPAIRS BUT THE TWO CAN NEVER AGREE. THIS WEEK I CONTACTED GM AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THE CASE WAS CLOSED BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT CONTACT ME WHICH IS INCORRECT AS THEY HAVE MY PHONE AND EMAIL. THEY KEEP TELLING ME THEY ARE ELEVATING THE CASE TO A SENIOR MANAGER BUT NOONE CALLS ME. THE DEALER DOES NOT RETURN MY CALLS. THE CASE NUMBER IS [XXX]. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE RAN A RED LIGHT AND CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SPUN THREE TIMES AND LANDED AGAINST A SIDEWALK. THE TIRES WENT FLAT AND THE RIMS AND ROTORS WERE SPLIT IN TWO. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE SHOULDER AND LEGS THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED BROKEN RIBS THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT AND THEN TO A JUNKYARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *BF*JB
WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WILL DOWNSHIFT, ABRUPTLY AT EACH GEAR CHANGE CAUSING THE REAR TIRE RO LOCK AND SKID UNDER WET CONDITIONS. THIS HAPPENS AROUND 30-05 MPH. IT HAS ALSO TURNED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO RADLEY CHEVROLET (3670 JEFFERSON DAVIS HWY, FREDERICKSBURG, VA 22408 (540), 898-4000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE THREE WEEKS AGO. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO RADLEY CHEVROLET WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 178,000.

HEATER BLOWER MOTOR WIRING HARNESS IS MELTED AND GM KNOWS ABOUT THESE FIRE HAZARD'S THAT THREATEN THE LIVES OF OCCUPANTS. MY17 YR OLD DAUGHTER BABYSITS OUR 13 MONTH OLD NEPHEW. IT'S AT INTEGRITY GM OF CHATTANOOGA. THEY REFUSE TO SERVICE THE SWITCH RECALL AND WANT ME TO PAY$350 WIRING PROBLEM. HELP PLEASE.
I HAD MY SOLSTICE AIR BAG INDICATOR REPAIRED AT NEW SMYRNA BEACH CHEVROLET DEALER BACK ON 9/27/2016 (SEE ATTACHED DOCUMENT, PAGE 1). I THEN RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN MARCH OF 2018 FOR THE SAME PART. I SUBMITTED A REIMBURSEMENT REQUEST AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE MY SOLSTICE BACK TO THE DEALER TO VERIFY THEY REPLACED THE PART IN QUESTION FROM THE RECALL. I DID THAT ON 5/9/2018 (SEE PAGE 2 OF ATTACHED DOCUMENT). I WAS TOLD THAT ALL WAS IN ORDER AND I WOULD RECEIVE A REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE $832.00 THAT I SPENT ON THE ORIGINAL REPAIR. I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE ANY MONEY. CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT IS THE HOLD UP ON GETTING THE REIMBURSEMENT? NEW SMYRNA BEACH CHEVROLET CAN VERIFY ALL THIS. I TOOK MY SOLSTICE TO HIESTER CHEVROLET IN LILLINGTON, NC FOR NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 17V061 AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.
SERVICE AIR BAG DUE TO FAULTY PASSENGER SYSTEM. RECALL ISSUED 7 MONTHS AGO WITH NO RESOLUTION YET. AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY FOR PASSENGER IN CRASH. RECALL 17V-061 ISSUED WITH NO RESOLUTION.
THE BLOWER FAN DID NOT COME ON WHEN I TRIED TO USE IT WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING. I SMELLED A BURNING SMELL, AND TURNED THE FAN TO THE OFF POSITION. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY AT THE TIME OF ATTEMPTING TO TURN ON THE FAN. UPON HAVING IT INSPECTED AND REMOVED, IT HAD AN OBVIOUS BURNED AREA. WHEN I INVESTIGATED THE PART NUMBER, IT WAS APPARENT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME PART FOR HUMMERS AND CHEVY CANYON AND COLORADOS. THERE WAS NO RECALL OR INFORMATION REGARDING THE SAME PART FOR THE SOLSTICE. THE PART NUMBER IS OBSOLETE NOW BECAUSE OF THE REDESIGN OF THE PART FROM KNOWN FIRE DANGER OF THE PART. I FIND THIS HIGHLY NEGLIGENT OF GM TO NOT MAKE THIS A MANDATORY RECALL/OR FREE REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT. THE LIABILITY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SAFETY ISSUE CONCERNS ME GREATLY, SINCE A FIRE WITH THIS PART HAS BEEN A PROBLEM. MY LIFE AND THOSE OF MY FAMILY SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PUT IN DANGER BY GM'S LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY. IF THERE WAS A FIRE WHILE PARKED IN MY GARAGE, THAT ENGULFED MY HOME AND FAMILY WHILE GM WAS AWARE OF THE DANGER,THE DAMAGES WOULD BE ASTRONOMICAL IN GRIEF AND FINANCIALLY. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME WE WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE TCM MODULAR, NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. DEALLER(S) HAVE ONLY BEEN INTERESTED IN MY $1,000.00, BUT NOT IN WHAT IS CAUSING THE PART TO FAIL EVERY 15 MONTHS.
I HAVE RECEIVED TWO NOTICES ABOUT RECALL NUMBER GM 17036. MY WIFE AND I TOOK A TRIP THIS PAST WEEKEND IN THE CAR AND I NOTICED THE VHICLE'S PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TELLTALE LIGHT INDICATING THE AIRBAG WAS OFF WHILE MY WIFE WAS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. ON MONDAY 06/19/2017 I CALLED WILKINSON GM IN SANFORD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. I WAS SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY 06/23/2017 AT 1:00 PM. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING AS THERE WAS NO STORED CODE AND THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. AND I WILL NEED TO WAIT UNTIL GM HAS A PERMANENT SOLUTION. I QUESTIONED WHAT THEY WOULD DO IF THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD REPLACE THE PRESSURE SWITCH UNDER SEAT BUT THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO UNTIL THEY WERE ABLE TO SEE TELLTALE LIGHT FOR AIRBAG GO OFF. THE TELLTALE INDICATING LIGHT WENT OFF WHILE WE WERE DRIVING, IN MARION ON SECONDARY ROADS AND HIGHWAY ROADS. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THE DEALER MECHANIC ONLY TRIED TO REPRODUCE SYMPTOMS IN THE GARAGE SITTING STILL.
