AIR BAG LIGHT ON. DIAGNOSED AS AIR BAG SWITCH ON PASSANGER SEAT. AIR BAG INOPERABLE WHILE LIGHT IS ON. SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE KAPPA BODY THROUGH MULTIPLE YEARS.
THE AIR BAG SENSOR IN MY VEHICLE FAILED AFTER ITS 'BUMPER-TO-BUMPER' WARRANTY EXPIRED. ANY PASSENGER IN THE CAR FACES ADDED RISK IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE OWNER'S COST TO FIX THIS ITEM IS PROHIBITIVE ($800 TO $1,000), AND THAT THE EARLY FAILURE OF THIS PART IS SOMEWHAT COMMON FOR THIS VEHICLE. *TR
07 - GXP CURRENTLY 46K MILES. I TURN MY CAR ON ONE DAY AFTER CLEANING IT AT HOME AND I AM GREETED WITH A MESSAGE ON MY DISPLAY SAYING SERVICE AIR BAG AND FOUR RAPID AUDIBLE CHIMES. THAT PASSENGER SEAT NEVER HAD ANYONE MORE THAN THE WEIGHT OF AN AVERAGE HUMAN ON IT. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ANY PASSENGER IN MY VEHICLE YET I AM FORCED TO DEAL WITH IT UNLESS I FORK OVER CLOSE TO $1000 AT THE DEALER. OTHER VEHICLE MAKES HAVE BEEN REWARDED A RECALL FOR SIMILAR ISSUES, BUT NOT FOR PONTIAC/SATURN!!! COME ON! IT'S NOT OUR FAULT THEY PHASED OUT. I AM AFRAID TO HAVE A PASSENGER IN MY CAR IN FEAR OF THEIR SAFETY. I USED TO LOVE HAVING A PASSENGER WITH ME WITH THE TOP DOWN ENJOYING LIFE AND THE FUN OF THIS CAR - AS IT WAS BUILT FOR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE STARTED TO OCCUR AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14E021000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,500.
MY WIFE WEIGHS 105 POUNDS AND IS 5 FEET 5 INCHES TALL, SHE IS NOT HEAVY ENOUGH TO TURN ON THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. I WENT TO ROYAL BUICK DEALER IN TUCSON ARIZONA TO ASK IF THEY COULD MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT, THEY SAID NO THAT THE BAGS ARE NOT ARMED FOR ANYONE UNDER 100 POUNDS. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT SHE WEIGHS 105 AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP ME, I ASKED IF THEY COULD TURN IT ON PERMANENTLY AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT. SO, SHE RIDES IN THIS TWO PASSENGER SPORTS CAR, WE ARE SENIOR CITIZENS WITH NO SMALL CHILDREN EVER RIDING, AND SHE IS UNEASY BECAUSE SHE DOES NOT HAVE THE PROTECTION OF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. I THINK EVEN 100 POUNDS IS TOO HIGH OF A REQUIREMENT, SHOULD BE DOWN TO 70-80 POUNDS. MY GRAND DAUGHTER RIDES WITH ME ALSO, SHE IS 12, 5 FEET 6 INCHES AND WEIGHS 85 POUNDS SO SHE HAS NO PROTECTION FROM THE AIR BAG EITHER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP, THE BRAKES FAILED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF A SECOND VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT BRAKE SPECIALIST WHO WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE FAILURE. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL MULTIPLE TIMES, CAUSING THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP TO MALFUNCTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000...UPDATED 11/05/15 *BF *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN A PASSENGER OCCUPIED THE SEAT, THE AIR BAG WOULD DEACTIVATE. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
ADD MY COMPLAINT TO THE SEAT BELT LIGHT LIST. GM HIDING IT'S HEAD IN THE SAND AGAIN. IN AUGUST OF 2014, MY DAUGHTER HAD HER IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED PER THE RECALL NOTICE ON HER 2007 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE RED AIR BAG LIGHT WENT ON ALONG WITH MALFUNCTIONING OF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG STATUS INDICATOR LIGHT. MILEAGE 61,000. THE YELLOW WARNING LIGHT WILL NOT COME ON WHEN A PERSON SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT! THE RED AIRBAG READINESS LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER IS ON ALL THE TIME ALONG WITH THE SERVICE AIR BAG DISPLAY ON THE DIC. GM FIXED ONE AIR BAG ISSUE AND NOW ANOTHER ONE HAS SURFACED. IN REVIEWING THE MANY ARTICLES ON THE WEB, THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS TO NHTSA ABOUT ON THE AIRBAG HAZARD ON ALL 06 THRU 10 PONTIAC SOLSTICES, SATURN SKY AND VARIOUS OTHER GM VEHICLES. THE PROBLEMS WITH THE PASSENGER SEAT RENDERS IT UNSAFE AND MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH IN A CRASH. THIS PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO GM, THEY DIAGNOSED SAME, SAID IT WAS NOT RELATED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL AND REPORTED CODE 1063 - PASSENGER PRESSURE SENSOR DEFECTIVE. REPLACEMENT COST APPROXIMATELY $900.00. THIS DEFECT WILL NOT ALLOW THE AIRBAG TO OPERATE IF INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE COST TO REPLACE THIS SENSOR IS PROHIBITIVE AND SHOULD NOT FAIL. THE SENSOR WAS MANUFACTURED IN LUXEMBOURG, GERMANY (MANUFACTURE UNKNOWN #BR53008361171M8H). THIS IS AN INSPECTION ISSUE IN SOME STATES AND WHERE THERE IS NO INSPECTION, MANY PEOPLE ARE JUST DRIVING AROUND WITH THE LIGHT ON NOT KNOWING THEIR BAGS ARE INOPERATIVE. THE DEFECTIVE SEAT MODULE RENDERS THE PASSENGER SEAT UNSAFE AS THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY WHICH COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH IN A CRASH. PLEASE REVIEW THE COMPLAINTS DECLARE IT RECALL. PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR WENT BAD. LEAVES AIRBAG DISABLED WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS AND GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS VERY COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
THE 'SERVICEAIRBAG' LIGHT BEGAN TO APPEAR AT DIFFERENT TIMES FOR SHORT PERIODS. I THE GM DEALER SAID THAT THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TESTS COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM AND WOULD REQUIRE THAT THE SERVICE LIGHT BE ON CONTINUOUSLY. JULY OF 2015 THE LIGHT DID STAY ON AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE 'MODULE' HAD SHORTED. A REPLACEMENT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $450.
I TOOK OUR SOLSTICE TO A GM DEALER IN ALCOA, TN ON JULY 28, 2014 FOR THE IGNITION CYLINDER RECALL. THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. WHILE DRIVING HOME I NOTICED THE DEALER HAD MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE MAXIMUM TILT UP POSITION. WHEN I MOVED THE STEERING WHEEL TO A MIDDLE TILT POSITION THE SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ACTIVATED. NO ONE WAS IN THE PASSENGERS SEAT AT THIS TIME. THIS WARNING HAD NEVER BEEN ACTIVATED BEFORE. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE SAME DEALER ON AUGUST 7, 2014 AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN OPEN CIRCUIT IN THE PASSENGER PRESENCE AIR BAG CIRCUIT. THE MODULE WAS REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OF $852.29.
THE PASSENSGER SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR STOPPED WORKING AT 32000 MILES. *TR
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE CAR JERKED VERY HARD AND I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE THE BACK WHEELS ALMOST LOCK UP. IT ALMOST FELT LIKE IT WAS SUDDENLY THROWN INTO REVERSE & THE CAR WAS TRYING TO ADJUST. IT OCCURRED EVERY TIME I SLOWED DOWN TO TURN OR STOP WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. LUCKILY THE 18 WHEELER BEHIND ME COMING OFF THE INTERSTATE WAS FAR ENOUGH BEHIND ME BUT HAD HE BEEN MUCH CLOSER, HE WOULD HAVE CRUSHED ME! WE JUST BOUGHT AN AUDI AND WERE GOING TO GIVE THE SOLSTICE TO OUR 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AS A GRADUATION PRESENT BUT NOW I AM TERRIFIED FOR HER TO DRIVE IT!! THIS COULD CAUSE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT AT ALL. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL SO I NEED TO CALL OUR LOCAL DEALER ASAP!! *TR
WHILE DRIVING OUT OF TOWN ON JULY 4, 2014, THE AIRBAG LIGHT FOR PASSENGER WENT FROM ON TO OFF (THERE WAS A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT) AND A SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. CALLED DEALER TO CHECK ON THIS, ALREADY HAD AN APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED FOR JULY 9TH TO REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH (RECALL). WERE TOLD THAT THE TWO INCIDENTS WERE NOT RELATED. RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT (AT DEALER) ON JULY 9, 2014 THAT THERE WAS A FAULTY MODULE FOR AIRBAG SYSTEM AND WOULD COST $750.00 TO REPLACE. THERE APPEAR TO BE MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS AIRBAG ISSUE. I DON'T FEEL WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE BUT DON'T FEEL LIKE THERE IS ANY CHOICE! *TR
PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION AIRBAG SENSOR MODULE OR PPS IS DEFECTIVE AND DOES NOT ARM THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WITH AN ADULT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. DEALER ESTIMATE IS $1000 TO REPLACE THE SEAT CUSHION. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH MOST IF NOT EVENTUALLY ALL PONTIAC SOLSTICES. THIS SUB STANDARD CRITICAL LIFE SAFETY PART SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,048. UPDATED 08/28/14*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THE SEAT SENSOR WAS INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED TO PAY APPROXIMATELY 50 PERCENT OF COSTS FOR THE REPAIR. UPDATED 09/02/2014 *JS

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THIS LIGHT HAS COME ON INDICATING NO AIR BAGS. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. I'VE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL ON IGNITION SWITCH AND REPLACEMENT KEYS. THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF A DEFECTIVE PASSENGER PRESENT SENSOR. THE PART WILL NEED TO BE ORDERED AT A COST OF $761 PLUS LABOR. MY WIFE DOES NOT FEEL SAFE RIDING IN THE CAR NOW. EVERY SOLSTICE ON THE FORUM BOARD REPORTS THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR
SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON HAD IT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A FAULTY PPS SYSTEM I HAVE HAD NO WRECKS AND THINK THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY THE DEALER WITHOUT CHARGE AS THERE IS NO REASON FOR FAULTY AIRBAG. *TR
2007 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE AIR BAG LIGHT AND PASSENGER SEAT ISSUES. CONSUMER HAS ANOTHER VEHICLE COMPLAINT IN ARTEMIS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON, WHEN THE SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THE CONSUMER HAVE THE AIR BAG SYSTEM REPLACED. ON AUGUST 15, 2013, THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER VEHICLE, WHERE THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE WAS REPLACED. AFTER THE DEALER, BROUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM THE SERVICE BAY, THE CONSUMER HAD A PASSENGER SIT IN THE VEHICLE, AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON. THEY HAD A GM REPRESENTATIVE WEIGHING 145 POUNDS SIT IN THE SEAT AND IT WOULD COME ON PERIODICALLY. BUT, ONE HAD TO MANIPULATE THE KEY TO HAVE IT COME ON. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THE CUSHION BE REPLACED. *JB
AFTER HAVING MY TRANSMISSION REPLACED, MY THROTTLE STICKS AND ERRATICALLY IDLES. WHEN PUTTING IT IN NEUTRAL AND ROLLING TO A STOP MY CAR IDLES UP TO 3000 RPM. *TR

THE PROBLEM RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
EVERY TIME I START MY CAR, I'M TOLD MY AIR BAGS NEED TO BE SERVICED. MY DEALER SAYS IT'S GOING TO COST ALMOST $900 TO FIX. AFTER SOME DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, APPARENTLY I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE SEAT SENSOR MECHANISM IS APPARENTLY DEFECTIVE AND THE COST TO FIX IT IS MORE THAN EXORBITANT. I'M ALSO WORRIED ABOUT PUTTING MYSELF AND/OR MY PASSENGERS AT RISK BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE CONFIRMEDLY INFORMATION ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT THE AIR BAGS ARE DEFECTIVE OR NOT. *TR
RECEIVED A RECALL ON FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH DATED APRIL 2014. CALLED A DEALER TO INQUIRE ON APRIL 24, 2014. WAS TOLD THAT PART WOULD BE ORDERED AND WE WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN AVAILABLE. CALLED 5/19/14 AGAIN TO DEALER, NO PART IN YET. CALLED AGAIN JULY 3, 2014. FINALLY AN APPOINTMENT WAS SET UP FOR WED. JULY 9TH (YESTERDAY). I FEEL THAT IS WAY TOO LONG TO WAIT FOR WHAT COULD BE A LIFE OR DEATH MATTER! *TR
MY VEHICLE RECENTLY STOPPED WORKING. THEY REPAIR SHOP (WILKINS BUICK--RICHIE HWY, GLEN BURNIE, MD)SAYS THE PROBLEM STEMS FROM THE ENGINE. I AM CONCERNED THE REPAIR SHOP KNOWS THAT THE PROBLEM IS A RESULT OF THE POOR BUILD/WORK FROM THE GM MANUFACTURER, AND IS UNWILLING TO REPAIR FOR FREE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND STATED THAT THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE NECESSARY PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO COMPLETE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS NOT COMPLETED IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED.

I HAVE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS RELATING TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SEAT SENSOR FAILING. THE PART ALONE IS OVER $300 AND TO HAVE A DEALER REPAIR IS OVER $700. REGARDLESS, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IS WIDESPREAD ON PONTIAC SOLSTICE AND SATURN SKY MODELS. GM HAS YET TO ISSUE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR? THIS SEEMS SIMILAR IN NATURE TO THE CURRENT RECALL FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH WHERE UP TO 300 PEOPLE HAVE DIED. THE ISSUE DOES NOT CLEAR ITSELF AND IS ALWAYS ON THE DASH PANEL WARNING SYSTEM. *TR
PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR IS UNABLE TO DETECT PRESENCE OF A PASSENGER. AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT NOW REMAINS ON AT ALL TIMES. I HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT THIS ISSUE, ESPECIALLY SINCE GM HAS RECALLED OTHER VEHICLES FOR AIR BAG SAFETY. ALSO, I HAVE NOTICED AND HEARD SEVERAL OTHER PONTIAC SOLSTICE AND SATURN SKY OWNERS HAVING THIS ISSUE. GM IS CHARGING ME $1,000 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT IN AN ATTEMPT TO RAISE THIS ISSUE SINCE IT INVOLVES SAFETY OF PASSENGERS AND DRIVER IN THE CAR.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED BEFORE THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
THE OCCUPANT MODULE SENSOR (GM PART #19124219) LOCATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT FAILED AFTER ONLY 52,000 MILES. THIS MODULE, WHEN FAULTY, CUTS OFF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM.THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IN THE LIFETIME OF OWNERSHIP I ONLY HAD A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT APPROX 20% OF THE TIME SO WEAR IS NOT THE ISSUE.ON FURTHER CHECKING OF THE 40+ SOLSTICE OWNERS I KNOW, MOST HAVE THE PROBLEM.THE REPLACEMENT COST FOR PARTS LABOR AND RECALIBRATION IS BETWEEN $500 TO $800. MOST OWNERS IGNORE IT AND THE FACT THAT HALF THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN A CRASH BECAUSE OF COST. GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM PART BUT APPARENTLY DOES NOT SEE IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE. A ONE TIME REPROGRAMMING TO A "ALWAYS ON" STATE WOULD BE A CHEAP ACCEPTABLE FIX. *TR

THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR FAILED, THIS LEAVES THE PASSENGER UNPROTECTED IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MY CAR. THE FIRST WAS ON 5/18/2009 AT 15501 MILES AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY WELL THIS TIME THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE OWNER'S COST TO FIX THIS ITEM IS PROHIBITIVE ($500 - $800), BY VIEWING THE SOLSTICE FORUM ON-LINE IT IS APPARENT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND AS A SAFETY ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY YOUR AGENCY.
