THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATIONS FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V655000 (AIR BAGS), NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V029000 (AIR BAGS), AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V162000 (VISIBILITY). HOWEVER, THE PARTS NEEDED WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A TIMEFRAME FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR PARTS. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
NHTSA RECALL 14V655; GM RECALL 14735. IN ADDITION TO MEDIA STORIES, I RECEIVED NOTICE FROM GM VIA FEDEX IN MID-OCT (10/23, I THINK). THE PURPOSE OF NOTICE WAS PURE PR, TO DUPE CONSUMERS INTO THINKING GM IS ON TOP OF THE RECALL. I CALLED MY LOCAL GM DEALER (REGAL GMC, LAKELAND, FL) ON 10/24. I WAS ADVISED THAT GM HADN'T EVEN SUPPLIED THE DEALERS WITH A GM RECALL NUMBER YET. THE DEALER PROMISED TO CALL ME WHEN THEY HAD MORE INFO. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. SO I CALLED THE DEALER TODAY (11/12/14) AND WAS ADVISED THAT PARTS ARE ON ORDER BUT THE DEALER (1) DOESN'T KNOW WHEN PARTS WILL BE RECEIVED AND (2) CANNOT PREDICT WHEN MY CAR WILL BE REPAIRED. MEANWHILE, I HAVE A POTENTIALLY LETHAL PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE. IT'S OBVIOUS GM DOESN'T CARE MUCH. NHTSA MUST MAKE GM MORE RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS SCREW-UPS AND FIX RECALLS IN A MUCH MORE TIMELY FASHION. I AM WRITING TO EXPRESS MY DISSATISFACTION WITH FAILING TO RECEIVE NEEDED RECALL REPAIRS RELATED TO AT LEAST NHTSA #25V285 AND #15V043. I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING NOTICES FOR OVER A YEAR ADVISING THAT REPAIR PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. I FIND IT UNACCEPTABLE TO BE LEFT WAITING THIS LONG WHILE BEING TOLD NOT TO ALLOW THE PASSENGER SEAT TO BE OCCUPIED. THIS IS TOTALLY UNREALISTIC AND UNFAIR. WHY AREN'T THE MANUFACTURES BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR PROVIDING A TIMELY REPAIR? I UNDERSTAND THE SUPPLIER IS TO BLAME AND SO SHOULD BE WORKING 24/7 TO PROVIDE THE REMEDY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V285000 (AIR BAGS) WAS RECEIVED IN AUGUST OF 2014 AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V043000 (AIR BAGS) WAS RECEIVED IN JULY OF 2015. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL AUGUST OF 2016. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
CAR WAS IN PARK WHEN I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF PUTTING DOWN THE DRIVER SIDE ELECTRIC WINDOW. WHEN IT WAS GOING DOWN IT MADE A LOUD NOISE AND THEN STOPPED GOING DOWN ANY FURTHER. AT THIS POINT IT WAS ABOUT 3/4 OF THE WAY DOWN AND THE WINDOW WAS NOW AT A SLANT. IT ALLOWED ME TO PUT IT BACK UP, BUT IN THE PROCESS OF THE WINDOW GOING UP IT SHATTERED. THE MAJORITY OF THE BROKEN WINDOW WAS ON ME AND THE FRONT SEAT OF THE CAR. LUCKILY THE CAR WAS IN PARK WHEN IT HAPPENED AND I ONLY HAS A FEW CUTS ON MY LEGS FROM THE BROKEN WINDOW. IN 2008 I HAD THE CAR IN FOR A RECALL TO REPLACE BOLTS TO BOTH OF THE FRONT WINDOW REGULATORS, MILEAGE AT THIS TIME WAS 47,000. THE GM DEALER I TOOK THE CAR INTO TO HAVE THE WINDOW REPLACED, INFORMED ME THAT I NEED TO HAVE THE REGULATOR AND RUN CHANNEL REPLACED. *TR

TAKATA RECALL RECEIVED NOTICE IN JULY OF 2015 AND BEEN UNABLE TO USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. CALLED GM TOLD THEY CAN'T GIVE ME ANY INFO ON WHEN IT WILL BE REPLACED. CHECKED WITH DEALER AND GOT SAME RESPONSE. UNABLE TO USE CAPABILITIES OF CAR I PURCHASED FOR OVER 6 MONTHS. I WOULD LIKE TO TRADE IN AND GET A NEW CAR,BUT WILL BE PENALIZED FOR DEFECT. I HAVE GOTTEN NO INFO OR HAD ANY CONTACT FROM GM EXCEPT THE JULY 2015 LETTER. IS THIS ACCEPTABLE TO THE NHTSA . WHAT CAN I DO TO GET MY VEHICLE IN TOTALLY USEABLE ??
THE SUBJECT VEHICLE BECAME SUBJECT TO AIR BAG RECALL (N140491) ON 7/24/14. IT THEN BECAME SUBJECT TO A SECOND RECALL (N140877) ON 2/11/15. IT HAS BEEN OVER ONE YEAR SINCE THE FIRST RECALL, WHICH I FIND UNACCEPTABLE. FURTHER, I WILL BE REPLACING THE SUBJECT VEHICLE AND I WILL HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME SELLING IT WITH TWO OPEN RECALLS. I HAVE TRIED CALLING OUR LOCAL GM DEALER (WOODBRIDGE, VA) AND WHILE POLITE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO HELP ME. SO, I DECIDED TO CALL THE GM HELP PHONE NUMBER ON AUGUST 24, 2015 AND ASKED IF GM WOULD BE WILLING TO BUY BACK THE SUBJECT VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE DIFFICULTY I WILL HAVE TO SELL TO A PRIVATE PARTY A VEHICLE WITH TWO OUTSTANDING SAFETY RECALLS. SO, FAR GM HAS NOT BEEN VERY SUPPORTIVE OF MY REQUEST AND I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED BY THIS FOOT-DRAGGING BY GM FOR OUR PONTIAC VIBE. IN TALKING TO THE LOCAL GM DEALER, HE SAID THAT THEY HAD CORRECTED THE SAME RECALL BUT ON A DIFFERENT VEHICLE. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT GM MAY BE DRAGGING IT HEALS ON A MAKE (PONTIAC) AND MODEL (VIBE) THAT IS NO LONGER BEING MADE. IF THERE IS ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO HAVE GM CORRECT THIS RECALL IMMEDIATELY OR BUY BACK MY VEHICLE AT A MORE THAN FAIR PRICE (FOR THEIR FOOT DRAGGING), I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTICE ABOUT DEFECTIVE AIRBAG THAT NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT YET AND IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR SINCE NOTICE OF THE DEFECT. NO IDEA WHEN REPAIR WILL BE AVAILABLE AND DURING ALL THE WAIT TIME, NOTICE SAYS FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SHOULD NOT BE OCCUPIED. UNACCEPTABLE A YEAR LATER THE ISSUE REMAINS WITH NO REPAIR AVAILABLE AND UNSURE WHEN IT WILL BE. AS A FAMILY OF 5, VERY INCONVENIENCED NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT.

THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V133000 (AIR BAGS) OR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V029000 (AIR BAGS). THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,111.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, THE DOOR GLASS BECAME SEPARATED FROM THE WINDOW REGULATOR AND CAUSED THE WINDOW TO BECOME STUCK. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE REGULATOR WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE RECALL NOT RECTIFYING THE INITIAL FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE CRUMBLED INTO PIECES. SHORTLY AFTER THIS INCIDENT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE AND RECENTLY THE DRIVERS SIDE BACK DOOR HANDLE CRUMBLED. LAST WEEK, AS I WAS GETTING OUT TO OPEN OUR PROPERTY GATE, THE DOOR SWUNG SHUT TRAPPING MY DOGS INSIDE OF THE CAR. (I LOCK ALL DOOR UPON ENTERING THE CAR.) I HAD NO WAY TO OPEN THE DOOR. FORTUNATELY MOTOR WAS RUNNING OR DEATH WOULD HAVE OCCURRED (TEXAS HEAT) BY THE TIME WE DISCOVERED A WAY TO BREAK INTO THE CAR USING AN ALLEN WRENCH AND A PAIR OF VISE GRIPS. IF I HAD NOT BEEN HOME AND THIS WAS A CHILD INSTEAD OF A PET A LAW SUIT COULD BE FILED. THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THIS AS A FACTORY DEFECT. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER CARS OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL I HAVE SEEN THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.I HAVE ONE DOOR HANDLE LEFT AND AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE OR PARK THE CAR WITHOUT A WINDOW OPEN, INVITING THEFT AND VANDALISM. I CANNOT AFFORD $1100,00 OR ASSUME THIS IS IN ANY WAY THE FAULT OF THE CONSUMER. PLEASE HELP. *JS
ON APRIL 5, 2014, I ROLLED DOWN MY DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOW AS I WAS DRIVING AT 15 MPH IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. WHEN I WENT TO ROLL UP THE WINDOW I HEARD A GRINDING SOUND AND THE WINDOW SLIP AND TILTED TO THE RIGHT SIDE. THE UNSECURED POWER WINDOW REMAINS OPENED. I FEAR THE WINDOW WILL SHATTER AGAIN LIKE IT DID IN SEPTEMBER 2007. I TAPED THE WINDOW TO THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR FRAME FOR FEAR OF IT FALLING ON ME WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS AN URGENT AND SERIOUS MATTER THAT NEEDS TO BE HANDLED AND REPAIR IMMEDIATELY FREE OF CHARGE TO THE OWNER. THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2008 REGARDING THE REPLACEMENTS OF WINDOW REGULATORS BOLTS FOR 2004-2005 , PONTIAC VIBES. THERE SHOULD BE A SECOND RECALL AGAIN ON THE POWER WINDOW REGULATORS BOLTS. PLEASE, INFORM ME ASAP WHERE I MAY TAKE MY VEHICLE FOR REPAIR. *TR
THE DOOR STOP ON MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR ON MY 2004 VIBE GETS HIT BY THE WINDOW AND PREVENTS THE WINDOW FROM GOING DOWN ALL THE WAY. IT HAS ALSO PREVENTED ME FROM OPENING THE DOOR IF THE WINDOW IS DOWN. *TR
THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD JUST CAME ON AND CONTINUES TO BE ON EVER SINCE. WE ARE TOLD BY OUR MECHANIC THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAGS ARE NOW COMPROMISED AND MAY NOT BE DEPLOYED IF IN A CRASH BECAUSE THERE IS A SHORT IN THE OPEN CIRCUIT AT THE SQUID CIRCUIT. THIS WAS NOT DUE TO ANY ACCIDENT, COLLISION, ETC.; THE LIGHT JUST CAME ON. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
PURCHASED USED CAR FROM TOYOTA RICHMOND, WINDOW SHATTERED 2013 FIXED (TOYOTA HAD WARRANTY BUT HAD TO PAY FOR GLASS), WINDOW BROKE AGAIN TWO MONTHS AGO APPROX. CONTACTED GM THEY WON'T FIX REPAIRED ONCE. I AM REPAIRING FOR THE SECOND TIME. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE GLASS SHATTERED IN MY FACE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED. SO, IN TOTAL THIS REPAIRED PART IS GETTING READY TO BE REPAIRED FOR THE THIRD TIME OUT OF POCKET. THE ORIGINAL RECALL DIDN'T REPAIR THE PROBLEM. AND THIS IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. I THINK IT IS MORE THAN A REGULATOR PROBLEM I THINK THERE ARE PARTS THAT ARE NOT GETTING ALONG WITH EACH OTHER. BECAUSE IT SHOULD NOT BE SNAPPING EVERY FEW MONTHS. WORRIED SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. WILL NOT PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM GM AGAIN. MY FIRST CAR I HAD FOR 17 YEARS. IT HAD MANUAL WINDOWS AND I WISH THIS CAR DID TOO. *TR

ALL 4 DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN OFF. I HAVE TO USE A PAIR OF PLIERS TO OPEN THE DOOR. IVE NOTICED ALMOST EVERY PONTIAC VIBE HAS DOOR HANDLES BROKEN OFF. TO ME THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IF I WERE TO BE IN A WRECK AND BECOME UNCONSCIOUS OR TRAPPED. THERE'S NO WAY FOR ANYONE TO GET INTO THE CAR TO HELP ME.
A RECALL WAS DONE ON THE DOOR MODULE CONTROLS BUT AFTER THE REPAIR, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT LIT UP. THE HEADLIGHTS BLOW ONE AT A TIME WITH IN 2 MONTHS. ONE TALE LIGHT AND THE THIRD TALE LIGHT BAR ON THE WINDOW ALSO FAILED. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS INSTALLATION ISSUES OR THE MODULE CAUSED AN ELECTRICAL OVERLOAD. NO ONE IS WILLING TO ADMIT ERROR. *TR

MY 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC BEARING FAILURE AS I WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED 10 MINUTES EARLIER, IT WOULD LIKELY HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE VERY COMMON WITH THIS VEHICLE, THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. *TR

I HAD A RECALL ON MY 2004 PONTIAC VIBE ON JULY 1, 2008. HOWEVER IT NEVER CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THE RECALL WAS TO REPLACE THE WINDOW REGULATOR BOLTS IN BOTH FRONT DOORS. MY CAR WAS TAKEN FOR REPAIR FOR THE FRONT DRIVER,PASSANGER WINDOWS ACCORDING TO THE RECALL LETTER. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE DONE THEY WILL NOT STAY ON TRACK NOW I TRIED TO TAKE THEM BACK TO HAVE THEM FIXED I WAS TOLD IT WILL COST $500 DOLLARS. ON JUNE 4, 2011 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING A 2004 PONTIAC VIBE ON RT. 83 FROM PENNSYLVANIA INTO MARYLAND WHERE APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE FROM THE PARKTON, MD EXIT, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY IN THE RIGHT LANE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE DRIVER FRONT TIRE POPPED LOOSE AS IT SEVERED ITSELF FROM THE SIDEWALL AND LITERALLY ROLLED DOWN THE BREAKDOWN LANE AS THE CAR WAS PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE TIRE. NO DEBRIS WAS IN THE ROADWAY AND NO OBJECTS WERE STRUCK DURING THIS EVENT. THE APPROXIMATE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE WAS 65-70 MPH. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME. IN LATE NOVEMBER 2010, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE SAME VEHICLE IN REHOBOTH BEACH, DE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON RT. 1. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE SUDDENLY BURST AND SEPARATED AT THE SIDEWALL. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THE LATEST TIRE WAS REPLACED BY SEARS AUTO CENTER IN YORK, PA WHERE THE OLD TIRE IS BEING SHIPPED BACK TO GOODYEAR (IN RESPONSE TO ROADSIDE WARRANTY). THE TIRE SIDEWALL RUBBER COMPOUND APPEARED VERY HARD AND BRITTLE. THE GOODYEAR TRIPLE TREAD TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN 2008 AND HAD APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES ON THEM. 2 OUT OF 4 TIRES HAD THIS UNEXPLAINED SIDEWALL BLOW OUT, ANOTHER TIRE WAS REPLACED EARLIER BECAUSE OF A NAIL PUNCTURE. WE DECIDED TO REPLACE ALL TIRES WITH ANOTHER MODEL AND GET RID OF OUR TRIPLE TREADS. WE BELIEVE THE TIRES TO BE UNSAFE AND ARE CONCERNED THAT OTHERS MAY BE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. THESE ARE HIGH END TIRES THAT ARE SUPPOSED LAST 80,000 MILES WITH SUPERIOR TRACTION. *TR

THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 144,000. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE REGULATOR AND MOTOR. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE BOLT FAILED AND THE REGULATOR BECAME DETACHED. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK I LOST POWER STEERING AND THE ENGINE AND BATTERY LIGHTS REMAINED ON. A FRIEND LOOKED AT IT AND ADVISED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR THAT MOUNTS TO THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE ENGINE. BOLTS ARE BROKEN, MOUNTING BROKE OFF ENGINE, AND RADIATOR HOSE IS DAMAGED. CALLED GM THEY SAID FOR THEM TO HELP, I NEEDED TO HAVE A DIAGNOSIS FROM ONE OF THEIR DEALERS. DIAGNOSIS DONE, THEY STATED, A/C COMPRESSOR BROKEN AND NOT ATTACHED TO ENGINE BLOCK, 2 MOUNTING BOLTS ARE BROKE OFF IN ENGINE BLOCK, 3RD BOLT IS MISSING AND MOUNTING HOLE IS BROKEN, RECOMMEND REPLACING ENGINE. I WAS THEN ADVISED BY GM DUE TO NO RECALL, EVEN AFTER REVIEW OF THE DIAGNOSIS. SO AFTER A REQUIRED DIAGNOSIS PER GM AND THE CAR TOWED TO AND FROM THE DEALER, THE CASE WAS CLOSED AND THEY ADVISED THEY COULD DO NOTHING TO ASSIST ME IN ANY WAY. I WOULD FIGURE THAT THIS IS AN EXCELLENT WAY TO MAKE A PERSON WHOSE VEHICLE IS NOT WORKING, DEPENDS ON IT FOR THEIR LIVELIHOOD, AND HAS TO PAY THE EXPENSE, WHICH I FIND TO BE ENTRAPPING THE CONSUMER INTO THINKING THEY WILL ASSIST THEM, YET IN THE END, AGAIN THEY DISMISS THEMSELVES FROM ANY LIABILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED IN 2007, THE DEALER ADVISED IT HAD NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND SINCE I OWNED THE VEHICLE, I HAVE NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. I HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE DONE ACCORDINGLY. I FEEL THAT SOMETHING SUCH AS THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED UNLESS OF A POSSIBLE DEFECT, FLAW, OR DAMAGE IN RELATED TO AN ACCIDENT. THE ADVISOR AT GM SAID, WELL IT IS A 2004. IF A VEHICLE IS 7 YEARS OLD IS CAN HAVE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS AND FAILURE TO FUNCTION. IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO MERGE AUTO MAKERS WHO ARE ALSO LEARNING GLITCHES IN SPECIFIC MODELS AND BENEFIT FROM EACH OTHER, HOWEVER IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG, COMPLETELY RELEASE ANY RELINQUISH ANY ASSISTANCE TO THE CONSUMER.
TWO ISSUES THAT I HAVE ARE, THE AIR CIRCULATION VENT MAKES A CLICKING. WHEN I OPENED IT UP, I SAW THAT IT WAS BECAUSE THE VENT WOULD NOT CLOSE PROPERLY, I HAD TO STICK A PENCIL IN IT TO MAKE IT STOIP CLICKING, BECAUSE I WILL NOT SPEND 100 DOLLARS TO HAVE IT REPLACED. ALSO, WE LIVE IN MONTANA, AND OUR NEW BATTERY WILL NOT START UNDER 20 DEGREES. WE HAVE EXTREEM WEATHER HERE, SO IT LEAVES US WITH ONLY ONE CAR, AND OFTEM WE ARE NOT ABLE TO GET TO WORK ON TIME. MANY OTHER PEOPLE IN COLD WEATHER ENVIROMENTS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. IT SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING WITH THE STARTER. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED, BECAUSE IT COULD LEAVE US IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. CELL SERVICE IS NOT OFTEN AVAILABLE IN THIS AREA, AND IT FRIGHTENS ME TO THINK WE COULD BE STUCK AT SOME POINT.

I HAD TO HAVE A NEW WATERPUMP, THERMOSTAT, OUTLET SEAL INSTALLED AS I COULD NOT GET ANY HEAT. IT WAS AS IF I WENT FASTER I WOULD GET A LITTLE HEAT. WHEN TOOK TO S&K THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW WATERPUMP, ETC. THEY WERE NOT GOING TO PAY FOR IT. I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND THIS AS I WENT ONLINE AND RESEARCHED THIS AND SAW MANY OTHERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2004 VIBES. SOMETHING ABOUT WHEN CHECKING ANTI FREEZE AND THE OVER FLOW IT WAS TO BE BURPED. THIS HAPPENED AT THE DEALER DID A COMPLETE CHECK UP FOR WINTER. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO THEM THAT THEY CAUSED THIS BECAUSE THEY CHECKED MY ANTIFREEZE WITHOUT BURNING IT AFTER THEY CHECKED IT. I THEN TOOK IT ELSEWHERE TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AS I COULD NOT AFFORD THE $500.00. I AM RETIRED AND A SENIOR CITIZEN. THE PLACE I TOOK IT TOO WAS WONDERFUL AND AGREED THAT THEY DID NOT SERVICE IT LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. WHAT IS ANYTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS? I DROVE ABOUT 1 MILE IN CITY DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PARK (DIAGONAL, FRONT END APPROACH) I WAS USING THE ACCELERATOR SLIGHTLY. AS I APPROACHED THE FRONT OF THE PARKING SPACE, I MOVED MY FOOT TO THE BREAK. DURING THIS MOMENT, THE ENGINE RPM INCREASED AND THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD. MY FOOT WAS MOVING TOWARD THE BREAK AND UPON BREAKING, THE FORWARD MOTION WAS STOPPED. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ABOUT THE SECOND WEEK IN JAN. 2010. THIS REPEATED ON MARCH 7, 2010. I REPORTED THE FIRST INCIDENT TO GM (CASE # 71-799309984) AND TOOK IT IN TO MY LOCAL DEALER. I JUST LEFT A MESSAGE AFTER THE SECOND OCCURRENCE. I HAD A WITNESS TO THE SECOND OCCURRENCE. THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION ON MY 2004 PONTIAC VIBE SEIZED UP AT ABOUT 140,000 MILES. AT FIRST IT MADE A HIGH PITCH WHIRRING NOISE THEN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY FAILED AS I WAS ON THE FREEWAY THUS SLOWING MY SPEED DOWN CONSIDERABLY TO THE POINT WHERE THE WHEELS BECAME LOCKED AT ONE POINT (TRANSMISSION FROZE WHILE ENGAGED). EVEN WHEN I FULLY DEPRESSED THE CLUTCH IT STAYED ENGAGED. I HAVE READ FROM OTHERS (AFTER THIS OCCURRED TO ME) THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS A FAULTY DESIGN. IT USES A PLASTIC MASTER BALL BEARING THAT CAN SHATTER AND CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO SUDDENLY SEIZE. A PLASTIC BALL BEARING IS USED INSTEAD OF USING A MORE DURABLE ONE LIKE A METALLIC BALL BEARING THAT WOULD ONLY COST OF FEW BUCKS MORE. THIS APPARENTLY HAS TO DO WITH MANUFACTURE PROFIT. THIS IS HAPPENED ABOUT A WEEK AFTER CHRISTMAS 2009 AND I HAVE BEEN THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR MYSELF AND FOR OTHERS ON THE ROAD.
