I have a 2020 Dodge Ram that has 75,000 miles on it. It has already broke down requiring a new transmission ( Jan of 2023 at 61,349 miles) and on [XXX] at 83,000 miles I, again, broke down and found it to be a valve spring. I have inquired as to the frequency of these occurrences in other Rams and a was told neither one of these occurrences should have happened. I jumped the hoops of the warranty and have put out almost $1,000 for the warranty company to "inspect" the engine, valve spring & tranny items that I should not have had to deal with in the first place. At first, the warranty company was willing to discuss possible retribution of some sort given the rarity of the break downs that occurred. I had a caseworker and now I cannot get anyone on the phone to even discuss this with any longer. Always being told "In a meeting", "Not available". With my last call being today and told SOMEONE was going to call. I have received emails noting "it is being investigated" and also told someone would reach out. NOW I have developed anxiety over this truck as, I travel. I'm terrified that I will be stuck in the middle of no where in the middle of the night. Both occurrences happened at night while alone! I am a [XXX]! Perhaps that's why ? I have been without a vehicle since that time and even the auto repair place had a very hard time in getting warranty company to pay. Truck is home now but now Im afraid to drive it anywhere. This was my dream truck and Im heartbroken at the total disrespect that has occurred for my safety and for anyone else who has had to go through this - I do have invoices but it wouldn't let me download them. I can send them via email. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, there was a dip in the road and the upper ball joint came out of the socket and the tire was pushed under the vehicle. The vehicle slid approximately 100 ft and came to a stop. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake line, both control arms, and the trans axle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to another dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the brake line, lower control arm, and the trans axle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.
My tailgate opened during a 20 mile drive, much of it on interstate, while I had golf club bags in travel cases in the pickup bed. One of the cases unknowingly fell out onto the road. Fortunately this road was near my home and low speed, 2 lane. Someone stopped and picked them up since they saw them in the road. I am uncertain if my son just didn't properly latch the tailgate or if it came open after being latched but my primary issue here is that there is no warning light in my truck to warn me if my tailgate is open. Had there been I would have pulled over to close and latch it.
The sun visors unexpectedly drop out of there sockets impeding the drivers ability to see abruptly. This is obviously dangerous. They are defective and this has been reported on RAM forums to no avail.
Abs and tracking control lights come on and “service electronic brake system” when on, cruise control not functional and traction control off very dangerous as I did more research it is a very common occurrence for Dodge Ram truck 2017-2021 please help us
I was in an accident with my 2020 Ram 1500 and took a couple horrible hits and the airbags never deployed and the end result was me getting hurt bad and now missing time at work over this incident.
The inside of my truck has condensation. The inside lights console don’t work. Because water comes in by the rear top headliner.
Hi, we own a 2020 Dodge Ram 1500. Went to drive our truck during a snow storm. The driver's side wiper arm stripped its splines. Dealership says tough luck. You're on your own. A 2020 Dodge Truck. This is ridiculous. We have 2 small kids, and can't drive our new truck when it rains. Never heard of a new vehicle stripping the splines of a wiper arm, because of ice and snow. No one ever touched the wiper arm. We used remote start to warm up the vehicle, only to find out the arm was stripped when we tried to drive it. I've owned many vehicles, never had this happen before. No one I've talked with, has had this happen, even in the worst weather conditions. This is a Major flaw, and a huge safety issue. Thank you. The rear window frame cracked causing water to leak slowly in and damage the trucks radio frequency hub. This crack is a known issue in 2019-2021 Ram 1500. There is a bulletin out somewhere about it. And what I’ve read is on an extended warranty called Backlite , which should be called window seal. I have seen this get covered and fixed because it is a known defect that the user did not cause. They covered the hub, which is required to start the truck and keep it running. That would be bad if it failed while driving. This crack needs to be covered. It won’t let me upload a picture of the crack, but I have one and how much they want to charge me to fix it. I was going to attach those.

water is coming thru the top of front windshield and condensation build up
Owner detected a foul odor inside vehicle. Upon investigation water was found in the rear floorboard and water stains across the headliner above the power rear sliding window. Further investigation online revealed that Fiat-Chrysler issued Technical Service Bulletin [XXX]\"Water Leaks At Sliding Backlite\" dated April 22, 2021 and [XXX] Rev B \"Water Leak Rear Of cab Rear Seat or Headliner\" dated June 2021. Owner called a local dealership and requested information regarding any recall related to RAM 1500 cab leaks, and was told that they were none. Dealership failed to advise owner that a know problem exists for these vehicles. \n\nOwner believes that a safety issue exists with water leaking into the 3rd brake light assembly resulting in failure of that safety component to operate correctly and cause a rearend collision. Further, owner believes that a safety issue exists with water leaking into the electrical system that operates the power sliding rear window resulting in a fire or electrical human contact electrical injury.\n\nThis issue has been confirmed by dealerships as they have attempted repairs for other owners. Additionally, Fiat-Chrysler's issuing Technical Service Bulletins for these problems indicates the manufacturer was aware of the issues.\n\nAt this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, dealership, police, or insurance representatives or others. However, owner will be initiating contact with one or all of these entities to confirm the problem.\n\nThere were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure. The vehicle was purchased new from a dealership in January of 2020 by owner. Symptoms were discovered by owner when a foul odor was noticed in the vehicle. Upon investigation water was found in the rear floorboard and water stains across the headliner above the power rear sliding window. Driving in moderate traffic, truck forward collision warning triggered and emergency braking engaged with no forward risk of collision. Traffic in front was accelerating, not decelerating and no risk of emergency collision existed. Incident did however nearly lead to collision from behind as brakes were slammed on fully to an emergency stop. Wife and I were both in the car and neither of us saw any reason whatsoever for the event to be triggered.
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle made an abnormal clunking sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact stated that the failure recurred increasingly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the intake manifold was fractured. The vehicle not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown Chrysler Campaign Number. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the sunroof suddenly shattered, raining down glass into the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 40,000.
My driver and passenger sun visors fall from the mounting arm and will not stay attached.
I have a 2020 Ram1500 Laramie and the vehicle has developed a water leak. The leak is coming from rear window, window seal, or related components. The result is that the headliner has water stains on the rear passenger and driver side. Continued water leaks have the potential to cause interior mold or electrical problems.
My RAM 1500 experienced some random electronic related issues (ie. warning lights showing when nothing was wrong and then going away). This was an annoyance, but would fix itself so I never reported it. Then I had similar issues and all of a sudden it kept dying on me and I had to jump the car. RAM came back telling me the back window had leaked and it destroyed the eTorque battery and RFhub. The estimate was absurd, so I started researching. Turns out that the back window leak is a we’ll know. common issue with RAM 1500s. So much so they extended the manufacture warranty on the back window and center mounted light. Unfortunately, my truck is not on that list. Beyond the cost of this repair, the safety issue occurs when RAM placed an eTorque LITHIUM BATTERY in the back seat directly under a window that has historically had issues with leaking. It is a common known fact that water and Lithium Batteries is not a good mix and could cause corrosion, short circuits, electrolyte leakage, and gas release. This can cause damage, overheating, fires, or explosions. This is the same seat that I have had my children in car seats. If the windows are known to have issues with leaking and RAM put a battery in a space that is directly under this window, would this not pose a significant risk?
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V767000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and almost stalled. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but had become a recurring failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and was advised that the parts were not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The exhaust flange bolts are prematurely rusting and breaking on the Exhaust system. This is a truck that has less than 30,000 miles and less than 4 years old. This is a common problem but seems to me RAM is using sub par materials in there bolts and they are failing at an earlier than expected time. These parts should be good for at least 80,000 100,000 Miles. These parts should be covered and a recall should be issued for these bolts as they are failing and braking prematurely. Creating a safety hazard as if the exhaust flange bolts break the pipe would hit the ground and create a safety and or accident hazard.
While trying to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle electrical system turned off the vehicle and turned back on. When turning back on, it flashed through a series of error messages. One time was while in stop and go traffic and I was able to coast onto the shoulder and restart the vehicle. A second incident was in the middle of a busy intersection. Having had this shut down before, I was able to quickly turn on my hazards and restart the truck to then clear the intersection safely. I have personally had Dodge look at the vehicle under my ownership (bought it used from a dealer). In speaking with the service advisor, he mentioned it had 13 error codes reported on the DTC from loss of communication with PCM. There were no warning signs prior to the two events I have experienced. I have scheduled to take it back to the dealership for examination. The first event I experienced was on 11/25/2023 with about 35,450 miles. The second event was on 12/15/23 with 36,100 miles. I am aware of the recall on this vehicle but the shortage of parts has not allowed Dodge to service it for the recall yet.
On Thursday 16NOV2024 I noticed the rear sliding window on my 20' Ram had shattered on the drivers side section. The sticker on the back was damaged and appeared burnt. The weather that morning had been 35 degrees and partly cloudy. When I remote started the vehicle at 0700HRS, the rear defrost came on automatically. I drove about 10-15 minutes to work and parked. I returned to my vehicle approximately 10 minutes later and noticed a burning odor but thought it was due to a woodstove used nearby. Later in the day coworkers noticed the sticker was burned. I thought it may be intentional or due to the rear defrost system since the part that is wired and transitions to the heating grid is right under the sticker. We reviewed security footage from when I parked to when it was discovered and noone went near the vehicle. I suspected the defroster had an issue. I stopped at the dealer, my warranty was expired and I have glass coverage but I wanted to make them aware of the issue. The dealer glass rep took photos and said she'd never seen anything like it but would talk to engineers about it. The following day I received a call saying that she showed engineers the damage and was told that the system doesn't have enough voltage or heat to cause that damage and they wouldn't help. I wasn't looking for money, I have full glass/no deductible. I had the glass replaced the following Monday and asked them to save the parts I suspected of failing. I have photos of the part that appears to have failed and overheated causing the damage. I have a concern that worst case, if something had been behind the headrest up against it and the vehicle was in a structure that a fire could have occurred. I followed up with my photos and concerns but never heard back from the dealer. Noone has expressed an interest in seeing the failed part in question and I still have them in my posssesion.
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated several unknown warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The battery was replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle had been taken to a local dealer on several occasions, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
Customer description: truck won’t take fuel, pump clicks off. (From Ram Dealer) Diagnostic- the vapor canister from the rollover from old fuel tank design, requesting and recommending new designed tank. This apparently is a known issue with the tank design.
The bolts holding the muffler to the exhaust pipe sheered off. After speaking with multiple dealers it is a known problem using a smaller bolt in the new body model Ram 1500 DT. The smaller bolt can’t handle the heating/cooling and eventually snaps. But this generally occurs just outside of warranty time. With the undersized bolts used by the manufacturer this causes the exhaust pipe to hang freely and risks the potential to cause injury or death with parts falling. There are many cases like this at dealers across the country and more to come. This body model is just coming up on 3-4 years so more trucks are starting to come in with this issue.
The driver side sun visor hinge point is failing. Without warning either when I attempt to fold down the sun visor or sometimes just on it's own it has fallen down out of the roof from the hinge point on the left side that allows you to rotate it to the side window if necessary. If I didn't have my hand on it to immediately lift it back up and from blocking my vision of the road in front of me it could have caused a collision with another vehicle, pedestrian or other object. I can push it back up into the receiver hole in the roof but it remains loose with the potential to fall out again as it has on several occasions. It has not been inspected yet. There are no warning indicators for this problem.
Frequent and expensive starter failure and replacement rate for Hemi V8 equipped trucks.
Seatbelt won't retract at all
The manifold bolts on the Ram 1500 pickups will break causing the manifolds to leak. This happens around 50-60k in mileage.
Upon inspection the rack and pinion failed and needs replacing. At the time of the failure i was getting ready to make a left hand turn with traffic to my left and i had to forcibly turn the vehicle almost hitting the vehicle to my left. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and independent warranty inspector and determined the rack and pinion failed. There was a steering failure waring that appeared when the loss of power steering occurred.
The drivers side sun visor can fall out of the mechanism that holds it to the interior of the roof without warning. This happened on my ex girlfriends 2019 ram 1500 and just happened to my 2020 ram 1500. The dealer repaired hers for free even though it was out of warranted because it was a “known issue” according to the service department. Today mine fell out, hitting me in the head as I was driving and temporarily obscured my view of the roadway. The same happened to my girlfriend. If this is a known issue why has there not been a recall notice on this? Could easily lead to accident with injury or fatality.
Driving at highway speeds, power steering disengages. Drove for about one mile and it reengaged. This repeated itself multiple times and at multiple speeds. Was able to steer but vehicle had no power steering assist. This posed a high risk of accident with injury or death. Have not taken vehicle to the dealer as of yet. Power steering warning indicators displayed during incident.
Driving on highway at 70mph. Truck shut completely off and lost all power. Almost caused major accident which could’ve resulted in serious injury.
recall with no parts available, have tried to schedule recall repair for the hpfp recal on this vehicle and im told there are no parts available for the repairs. now wanting to trade the vehicle because we have to have a dependable vehicle, and everyone is lowballing trade value because of the no repairable recall. i cant afford this loss so im stuck with something that might fail and cause a wreck at any given time .
The alternator generator is making us squeaky noise. I’m afraid that it’s gonna seize as I drive and I’ll lose power of the brakes and the steering checked with the dealer. They don’t have the part. They don’t know when they’re gonna be able to get it the part. I called junkyards call other auto parts stores. No one has got it’ I also went in the Mopar website and they also don’t have it
Transfer case has failed per dealer inspection and diagnostics. Several lights turned on. Burning smell in/outside of vehicle. Vehicle will jerk from time to time. Parts are apparently on back order for several weeks and I have been told the vehicle is drivable even though transfer case issues / failures can be a serious safety issue.
BACK OVER PREVENTION: DISPLAY FUNCTION. Rear backup camera failed, requiring the replacement of the radio unit. A rearview camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash. Specific to 2020 Ram 1500, but potentially similar to the recent recall of newer year 2022-2024 Ram 1500 / 2500 trucks [XXX] ). On Monday, October 10, 2023, I started my truck in the morning when the temperature was 60-65 degrees. The truck turned the rear defroster on and after 10 minutes I put my two boys in the backseat and smelt a burning smell. There was nothing smoking, so I told myself I would look at it once I got back from dropping them off. I pulled out of my driveway and within a minute my back window shattered above my 3 month old. I took it to the Dodge/Ram dealership and they said based on their inspection the third brake light was leaking and water got into/on the window and when the rear defroster turned on it shattered the window. They said it is not covered under warranty even though the main cause was a manufacture defect with the the third brake light leaking water into the vehicle. So this repair is going to cost me $1,500 because of the leak. This is a major safety violation with windows breaking above kids or people in the back seat and electrical getting wet because of the leak in the third break light.
The rear window, window seal, or related components have failed and allow water to intrude into the cabin of my vehicle near the back. This water gets the headliner wet and drips down the interior of the rear window, down the rear of the passenger compartment. This water intrusion occurs with very, very light moisture on the vehicle, such as early mornings with morning dew, light rain, or watching the vehicle. The near-daily (due to dew) intrusion of water into the cabin of my vehicle raises safety concerns of mold & mildew in the passenger compartment. My rear window backlite frame is visibly cracked on the interior, matching the symptom pictured in TSB [XXX]. My vehicle has a manufacturer date within the dates noted in the TSB. My vehicle also includes a power sliding window as noted in the TSB. I've been to two dealerships and they both told me they see this problem in RAM trucks "all the time". Both dealers refused to perform a warranty repair under the extended warranty noted in the TSB (150,000 miles) because my VIN is not associated with the TSB in FCA's system even though my vehicle appears to be described as a vehicle affected. I've attached 2 photos to my report. One photo showing the crack as noted in TSB [XXX]. One photo showing the actual crack in my backlite frame. This appears to be a very prevalent issue with a lot of online discussion from many other affected RAM owners. When accelerating and turning full left or right grinding sounds can be heard coming from the rear differential. It sounds like the gears in the rear differential are binding up. Per dealer a full differential rebuild is required.
About a year ago the passenger side visor fell from the arm side and was dangling in the window from the cords that operate the light. I almost ran into another vehicle when it happened. About 2 months ago, the driver side did the exact same thing as i was approaching a stoplight I could not see and almost hit the car in front of me.
My truck has had two leaks in the rear window area. I have owned it for 3 years it has 30000 miles on it. The vehicle is in otherwise perfect condition with no damage and no accidents. The first time it required the rear window to be replaced. This time it is uncertain where the leak is coming from. This could cause damage to the electronics as well as the rear airbags. It appears like these leaks are common and Ram is aware of them, but the have not recalled the defective components and provided a new design that does not leak.
A known exhaust manifold problem has caused exhaust fumes to enter the cabin which cause headaches and could cause serious issues while driving
Just a normal day, parked the truck in the garage and next morning noticed the Passenger side seat belt stopped working randomly and wouldn’t release. It looks like stuck like after how an accident would make it stuck. I see several recalls for 2019-2020 RAM 1500 pickups but all of them are for driver/left side seat belt. My truck seat belt that stopped working is right side/ passenger side.
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V767000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
