Intermittent alert to "Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service ABS System". Will cycle on and off multiple times in a row 3-4 times per minute. Sometimes will go 30 minutes without alert or will stay illuminated. Research of RAM TSB S2005000004 suggests failure of ABS Hydraulic Control Unit and/or ABS Control Module. Commonly reported issue. When illuminated, cruise control does not work. It appears that anti-spin and stability control are inactive.
A Hydraulic Control Unit malfunction resulting in multiple warning lamps flashing on and off intermittently - including the ABS, the EBS, the Traction Control, and the Cruise Control.
My 2017 Ram 2500 Cummins Mega Cab pick-up truck started displaying symptoms of a bad HCU module several months ago, "Service Electronic Braking System" warning message, ABS dash light indicating loss of ABS, and Traction Control Light indicating loss of traction control, as well as kicking the vehicle out of Cruise Control when this set of condition lights are, albeit intermittently illuminated. There are times where these condition light persist for long periods of time from several hours to several days, and then times when these condition light aren't present and will only intermittently come on and then times when these lights blink/ding on and off constantly for several minutes until it comes to rest in an always on state or an intermittent state. After having the issue confirmed by a third-party reputable mechanic shop AND a RAM Dealership Service department I was told the module is on backorder. Being that it is a safety system I don't trust the "aftermarket parts industry" to provide me with authentic manufacturer trusted equipment. Which leaves me encumbered with the stress and risk of having to operate my vehicle with unreliable ABS, Traction Control, Cruise Control. This is beyond a unique to me issue as there are plenty of well documented cases of RAM 2500-3500 series vehicle with this issue as well as a recall on the 2019 & up series of the same. So why would they not issue the recall for the other trucks with this safety issue? Condition persists at any speed regardless of road and weather conditions, no matter the duration of vehicle operation per trip.
Cruise control quit working when towing my trailer with tractor loaded. Service antilock brake system and service electronic brake system messages and lights on dash showed. Would occur intermittently, then became more steady. Took to dealer today, 6/19/2023, and was told no part could be ordered to fix this. Dealer advised they do not have an answer/fix. May have by August 16. Seems a long time to wait for a brake system solution/fix.
Over the last couple years the Service 4WD warning light would come on causing the vehicle to drive erratically. However this was intermittent and the light would go out after turning the truck off and then on again. Dealers could not diagnose the problem unless there was a code showing. Finally my local dealer found a stored code and diagnosed the problem as a failed front axle actuator.
Have had the service electronic braking system going off and on now for about 8 months now and have been waiting on a recall but that hasn't happened so here i am filing a complaint. My cruise and anti slip does not work while these warnings are on the dash. This defect could lead to the brake failure
Abs and traction control randomly quit working.
While towing with my 2017 RAM 2500 the "Service electronic braking system" and "Service antilock braking system" began to intermittently flash on my gauge cluster/instrument panel. The message and lights would continually flash on and off while driving over various road conditions (rough, smooth, flat, inclines, declines). My families safety (myself, wife and son) was at risk with the potential for a brake or braking system failure while towing our travel trailer, as well as the safety of others on the road around us in the event of our braking system failing. I began doing research on this error message and found the NHTSA investigation and link to report the issue. I am going to speak to my local dealer today 8/24/23 regarding repairs.
I am getting intermittent warning lights on my dash indicating that the abs, traction control and cruise control are turned off due to a message reading “service electronic brake system” on the dash. I took my truck to the dealer and was advised that they weren’t sure if the HCU module or ABS module is failing. At any rate, neither of the parts is available from mopar. I have found that there are no recalls thru mopar. Also, a class action lawsuit has been filed in California and Texas
Vehicles ABS and Traction Control lights randomly turn on and off. This has been happening for about three months now.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the dealer had previously replaced the ABS module twice; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Repair ABS System message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module needed to be replaced for the third time; however, the replacement part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
Service ABS system and Traction Control light and bell comes on intermittently while driving. Well known and documented problem. Many people have reported this and replaced parts with no solution.
Currently 73K on the vehicle. "Service Electronic Braking System", keeps appearing on the dash indication lights, also, "ABS Failure". the problem is intermittent. Through out the driving process approximately 2 hours a day, this incident will start ad start 5-15 time during this drive. Cant't replicate or recreate the problem every time. No controls. I haven't notified the dealer, waste of time, only if you pay them for a diag fee. One doesn't know when a accident will happen, unfortunately I have no confidence in the system to protect me as it was intended
Traction control/ ABS light consistently chiming on and off. Took to local dealer where I bought the truck from, diagnosed a bad ABS hydraulic control unit. They can’t get the part due to the amount of these rams needing this part replaced. Multiple forums of Rams stating the exact same thing, could be dangerous to drive if you are counting on your ABS to work properly in an emergency.
Service electronic brake system warning flashes on the dash multiple times while driving. A code reader indicates failure of the hydraulic control unit. Code is c0020.
ABS light continues to come on after changing my Hydraulic Brake Module several of times.
2017 Ram 2500. 24,000 miles While driving at any speed, warning lights and chime intermittently come on. Display reads "Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service ABS". ABS and Traction Control lights also illuminate on the dash. Sometimes the chime will come on and off so fast that the truck is constantly chiming which is very. Sometimes the warning lights stay illuminated. Sometimes they go away. Sometimes they flash on a off rapidly. The ABS module and Hydraulic control unit have already been replaced under warranty at 15,000 miles. I have been waiting for the parts to repair for over 8 months (since August 2022) with a promised part mid April. Upon contacting servicing dealer Daimler Chrysler has put this part under “engineering review” AGAIN with a new ETA of sometime in August 2023 for part availability. Safety concern is improper braking while ABS component is active or constantly going in and out during normal driving or while towing under all road conditions.
The abs light and service electric braking system light come on cost 1500 dollars to fixe to put new modules in it
For the third time I have had a loss of ABS, traction control and cruise control. Almost went off the highway when it was raining and it decided to stop working again. I personally know 3 other ram owners from 2017 and 2018 that this has happened to. Please help this is a major safety issue and ram is not addressing it properly. Ram just replaces the same faulty parts and 2 years later it happens again.
C0020-01 code. ABS pump. Truck only has 45,390 miles on it. Been replaced once under warranty and faulty again. Of course now out of warranty. Seems to be a common problem affecting over 400,000 trucks. Why is there no recall? RAM 2017
My trucks ABS keeps cutting off, it’s operation is intermittent. This also disables the cruise control and traction control. I have researched this on this year and it’s a problem with many of doges trucks. The dealer has no fix for this safety issue. This is an on going issue that happens every time i drive the vehicle.
The abs system stops working. The dealership has replaced the abs twice under warranty and now it is doing the same thing the abs light and the traction control light on the dash is on. The vehicle only has 60,000 miles on it and needs it's third abs control module and abs hydraulic pump.
ABS and Traction control lights on constantly
ABS / electric brake assist turns off and on randomly
My 2017 Ram 2500 has the ABS and HCU issues commonly found on these vehicles. To my Suprise the dealer cannot get the part due to how common this issue is the parts are on backorder. I have videos of the system failing while driving and the codes it is throwing. Due to it's tie to the ABS I do not think the truck is safe to operate. I am still making payments so this is a big deal for me. I can't trade it in for a couple of reasons. One of the main ones being I will have to take less money due to this defect. Yes, it has been reproduced by a local service center and I have video of it malfunctioning on the road. Inspected by a local service center but not a dealership yet. The warning lights come on and it "dings" at me.
ABS light goes on and off. C0020-01-ABS code internal failure. Cruise control goes in and out when code comes on. Brake pedal inconsistent. No parts available to fix this concern.
ABS and Traction Control warnings cycling on and off randomly. Warnings are off only for short periods and are on most of the time. Cruise control is not working when the warnings are on which causes a sudden unexpected drop in speed on the highway when a warning cycle occurs. Two dealers have advised that the unit is faulty in manufacture and design but no replacement parts are currently available. Unfortunately I am unable to replace the vehicle and must continue to drive it without these important safety features.
"Service ABS," "Service Electronic Breaking System," and "Traction Control" caution lights illuminate on vehicle during driving. Started with intermittent illumination. Took vehicle to dealer and was told that ABS pump failed, but no parts are available to repair. Service advisor said it was ok to drive, that the brakes will function without ABS system. Brake performance is diminished. There is no pumping sensation when I apply brakes hard.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the ABS warning light and the traction control warning light illuminated, causing the Adaptive Cruise Control mode to disengage. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module part number: HCU68143491AB needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive in rainy weather; however, the parts were not available for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Abs unit, hcu failed. Lights flash on an off over an over while driving. ABS light stays on so ABS will not work. Cruise control will not work. Keeps throwing service abs, and service electronic brake controller
I’m concerned, as I expect many owners of 17-18 Ram 2500 are. Feb 23, while returning to my home, I lost control of my vehicle after breaking before entering left to right turn that I had been thru thousands of times. Less than 1 mile from my residence I applied breaks gently prior to entering turn. After applying brakes, they locked up and I was unable to control my truck. I slid sideways a few hundred feet and made contact with a utility pole. I have never felt so helpless while driving. This caused significant damage to my vehicle. Never had any ABS problems prior to this event. After vehicle was repaired (well over $20,000) I had problems with ABS - Cruise Control that repair shop could not fix. They sent to tire shop who also could not repair. Was advised to take to dealer. Vehicle was repaired with new EBS pump (which was part of current recall). I paid $100.00 deductible for repair. I wondered why dealership reimbursed my $100.00. Now I know why, received recall in mail a few days ago for repair of this part. I think Fiat/Chrysler should be on the hook for my insurance deductible. Plus not having my truck for over 4 months. I’m also gonna lose money upon trade due to no fault of my own.
As I got in my truck and put the key in the ignition, my driver side power seat started to move forward on its own and would not stop, forcing me to open my door and remove my legs before it pinned my legs or worse, the seat stopped at the fully forward position with only a few inches between seat and bottom of dash.
The ABS module/HCU is faulty just like thousands of others who are reporting this same issue. Tested with an expensive scan tool by a certified mechanic AND the local dodge dealership in Greenwood SC. Dealership doesn't have the parts to fix it and can't tell me when parts will be available. The warning lights on the dash come and go but are on 75% of the time. This is EXTREMELY dangerous because when the lights come on it kicks the cruise control off suddenly. VERY unsafe on the interstate in traffic doing 85MPH. I'm surprised myself or no one else has been killed due to this.
Recently there has been a number of reports stating the Engine Pre-heater electrical connector has become corroded causing the connector to overheat, rust, and eventually dropping the bolt nut to fall into the intake manifold where the lose nut is succeed into one of the cylinders causing major mechanical damage to the diesel engine. One article was mentioned and posted on Bank Power website, article: RAM Insider Talks Bolt Failure, regarding the intake manifold part# 12B1023A163.
ABS light and alarm come on and goes off at random intervals. This issue was repaired before on 03/04/2020 and now the issue is reoccurring when rain or hight humidity. The original ABS code on the system was C0020-01 (ABS pump motor control - general failure). The HCU part #68143491AA was replaced and ABS module the issue corrected. My concern is that the ABS is disabled on the vehicle once the condition occurs and could result in loss of control during a hard or panic stop. I pull a 7,000 lb trailer and am concerned that if a hard stop occurs the truck could start sliding and cause the truck and the traile to lose control.
Abs and traction control lights come on and off after hitting bumps or just randomly. Started in the winter and it would disable 4WD which is not acceptable since this is a plow vehicle. Problem has gotten worse over time with the lights coming on and off multiple times per trip. The problem is available for inspection anytime. Without 4wd in snowy conditions(also rainy withour abs) others are in danger. i have had my mechanic look into it, we have not come up with a solution yet. Not inspected by manufacturer. multiple warning lights on a daily basis, failure is intermittent.
Abs service light come on and off intermittently. Something to do with a bad abs control module
My 2017 RAM 2500 (VIN-HG607103) at 83,015 miles began throwing a code of P2609 which is an air intake heater issue. I found my air intake relay was not working. I replaced it and all good, until the code returned a little over a week later. I then tested the relay and found it good and began to research more to learn that I had the "Bolt of Death" occurring. The bolt on my grid heater plate was broken, however it had not dropped into my engine cylinder. Luckly it was fused to the heater grid plate still. If it had fell off, it would fallen into a cyclinder damaging it and the piston, blowing the engine. There are recalls on new trucks with this engine however not the 2017s yet.
HCU light cone on the dash and code in the ecu. No damage to vehicle to cause this issue. This is a concern that the ABS system will not work when needed. Dealer says there is a lot of issues with this unit.
The Service Antilock Braking System warning and Service Traction Control warning illuminate regularly. There are no known problems with the systems but it is unknown if they will work when needed. The lights come on up to one time per second, and sometimes not for days. There are hundreds of people on forums complaining about this, no known fix. Replacing components does not seem to solve the issue. I have video available if needed.
Service electronic brake system/antilock brakes comes on and off with disabling of antilock brakes, cruise control and anti skid while driving.
ABS and traction control light. Continue to flash on and off cruise control will not work when light is on and traction control does not work. One light is on. I Heard there is a class action lawsuit in California trying to have my vehicle fixed. It continues to beep whenever I hit a bump or take a turn. Sometimes it's on. Sometimes it's off
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the ABS and traction control warning lights were intermittently illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to dealer where he was informed that the part to repair the vehicle was on back order. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
The ABS module in our 2500 Cummins has been serviced multiple times since purchasing and is still throwing service codes. We have a child and need to be sure that this module is working properly. We know this module has been recalled in the 2019-2022 models.
I have replaced my right rear ABS wheel speed sensor 2 times and still having issues. Cruise control or 4x4 does not work when abs light is on and with 4x4 not working it can leave you stranded if 4x4 is needed
ABS light and alarm come on and goes off at random intervals. This issue was repaired before on 10/06/2020 and now the issue is reoccurring. The original ABS code on the system was C0020-01 (ABS pump motor control - general failure). The HCU part #68143491AA was replaced and the issue corrected. My concern is that the ABS is disabled on the vehicle once the condition occurs and could result in loss of control during a hard or panic stop. I pull a 12,000 lb camper and am concerned that if a hard stop occurs the truck could start sliding and cause the truck and the camper to lose control.
ABS failure i have taken my truck to the dealership 3 times to have the ABS module replaced due to failure.my truck only has 67,223 miles on it.the ABS lights comeon the dash and Traction control lights as well when this happens.this needs to be investigated and resolved.please help me and so many others with this issue, Thank you.
I have dash lights going on and off for the ABS and traction control. This is very intermitted. On two occasions I have experienced times where I had to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident. Both times the ABS failed to work causing me to come to near collision with another vehicle. One of the times this caused me to go off into a ditch. This was with slick roads and snow covered in areas. Have also had several times the truck would steer out of control with no traction aid. I am constantly losing speed control using cruise control. It will work for a bit and then turn off when the ABS and traction control lights come on.
ABS and traction control systems are malfunctioning. Dodge dealer states that the abs module and hcu need to be replaced which both are on back order. Roughly $1500 worth of parts and labor are required to fix issue at my cost. Truck has 80,000 miles currently and problem started about 1000 miles/month ago. Both abs and traction control lights flash on/off constantly.
Service Electronic Brake System came on while driving. Problem seems to be inconsistent and constantly turns on and off preventing ABS and traction control from working. Braking when the system is not working properly will result in massive feedback from the brake pedal.
