Truck will flash warnings and dinging indicating that the anti-lock brakes and traction control has failed. Sometimes it'll stay that way and other times it will cycle multiple times. Like 20 times in a minute where the ABS and TCS are kicking on and off. Dangerous to have the brakes work like they're supposed to at random. It did this before in July of 2021, Scott Wood Dealership in Arkansas replaced the abs module/hcu. It is now doing it again, same symptoms.
Service electronic braking system and ABS light comes on and chimes repeatedly every time I drive the vehicle. This needs to be recalled as it is a chronic issue affecting thousands of trucks and owners.
Abs light and traction control light continue to turn on and when they light up my cruise control stops working
While driving the service ABS System/ Traction control dash warning message appears on the screen & chimes at the same time. The cruise control then shuts off. At first it was intermittent then it was almost all the time. With winter coming soon the ABS/Traction control will be much needed. After going online, it seems like this is a common problem with 2017-2018 Rams. After going to a Ram dealer in my area they replaced the HCU/ABS pump. I feel that if this is a common problem it should be addressed with a recall to avoid potential vehicle control problems
service abs system message and abs light and brake light coming on.. had checked and C0020-01 code for ABS pump motor control- general electrical failure
And the anti-breaking system and the electronic braking system lights keep coming on. Maybe two months ago I had to have the left wheel assembly, everything repaired because the wheel was about to fall off.
HCU failed today 07/08/24. Service Electronic Brake System light comes on and off, traction control/abs malfunction indicator lights comes on and off constantly. Kicked cruise control off while traveling highway speeds causing a rapid deceleration to occur. Can't get in to dealership until July 17 to have it looked at. No other indicators/malfunction lights/codes came on prior to 07/08/24.
Vehicle is currently displaying ABS warning light. Current mileage is 45,327. Dealership previously replaced Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) at 4,002 miles. ABS Module was not replaced as part was on back order. Dealer noted usual procedure is to replace HCU and ABS Module. Dealer noted code C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electrical Failure. At 24,923 miles, vehicle again displayed ABS Warning. Dealer found Code C0020-10 General ABS Pump Electrical Failure. Dealer replaced HCU. Dealer noted ABS warning is serious and vehicle should be repaired immediately. The safety of my family has been put at risk on multiple occasions. Problem has been confirmed and acknowledged by dealer. Problem has not been investigated by others.
ABS warning light and electronic braking light will randomly come on and chime, not sure if this is going to affect braking.
ON AND OFF SERVICE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL INDICATORS.
Service ABS warning and traction control lights constantly going off several times a minute, disappear for a few minutes, and then the cycle repeats. Have already replaced the ABS pump motor following code C0020-01 some years ago.
Warning message and chimes indicating ABS service required. This is an indication the HCU is working incorrectly or failed which results in ABS brakes, cruise control, and 4x4 function loss. This is a known safety issue and should require a recall.
ABS Traction Control Failure. Dash lights come on ABS and Traction Control do not work after that. This started as an intermittent issue and now the lights are on all the time and there is no longer any ABS or Traction Control on the truck which I feel is a major safety issue for this truck especially when pulling a loaded trailer.
2018 Dodge 2500 w 75K miles. "Service ABS" and "Service Electronic Braking System" warning lights coming on intermittently for appx last 1.5K miles. When this happens, it disengages the cruise control when set, or keeps it from being engaged when unset . Noted yesterday that Braking performance is now lessened- slightly increased stopping distance noted when pulling an appx 3K lb trailer (no trailer brakes), which i regularly tow. Brake fluid levels good, brake shoes/calipers/rotors in very good shape.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated intermittently and then remained illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 22,100.
The ABS is malfunctioning and affecting cruise control. This can cause major safety issues. The truck is constantly dinging over and over while I drive. I contacted the dealer but they said ram has not came out with the parts to repair it yet. There is a class action lawsuit against them for this reason but nothing is still being done yet. Many people have complained of this issue.
Everytime I press the brake pedal I am now receiving a "service electronic braking system." It is not every so often. It is every single time I press it. I have started researching this and there are thousands of other owners having the same problem that own the same truck as I do. They are also saying that every dealership either turns them away because they can't find the problem or they are giving conflicting reasons why it's happening and/or the part they say is the problem is on a massive, estensive backorder that could be months that sometimes fixes the problem for only a few months and have spent $1500 to $2500 depending on the location. They are also saying to report it to the NHTSA to make Ram fix the problem since it is so widespread across the nation.
Service ABS and traction control warning keeps going off. Cruise control kicking off.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the ABS and Traction Control warning lights illuminated and occasionally remained illuminated. The contact stated that whenever the warning lights were illuminated with the cruise control feature activated, the cruise control feature would inadvertently deactivate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was determined that the part to complete the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair and filed a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Intermittent ABS and Traction control light that after 2 weeks stayed on indefinitely due to the Hydraulic Control Unit that is known to go bad in these trucks. The dealer has replaced the HCU but at my own personal cost of around $900.00. This is something that has been a known issue on this truck and should be recalled as it poses a safety concern.
Electronic braking system alarm and antilock brake system alarms keep coming on and off. Based on research HCU is faulty.
Yes, I am on my second ABS brake module at 102,000 miles. The first one happened around 70,000 miles.
ABS and Traction Control lights come on and go off constantly, while sitting still, when hitting a bump, and when in Park not moving. When the lights are on, ABS, Traction Control, and Cruise Control do not work. This is a serious safety issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the "Service ABS" warning light illuminated the instrument panel with a continuous warning chime throughout the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, an official diagnostic test was not performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
The electronic braking system/abs light/traction control light constantly comes on and off every few seconds when driving. Having intermittent loss of anti lock braking system is a hazard.
When driving around a bend in the road regardless of left or right bend, once the steering wheel is turned between 45-90 degrees, the steering wheel moves back and forth from left to right on its own. Also when sitting still, with the vehicle running, if you turn the steering wheel in either direction between 45-90 degrees there is "play" in the steering wheel of approx 10% without moving the actual tires. There has been no modifications or accidents to the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Traction Control system failed to operate as needed. In addition, the warning lights associated with the systems failures were constantly flashing on the instrument panel while driving. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I am getting a warning that the electronic stability control (ESC) system is disabled. I am told it is due to a faulty ABS module that is on backorder. The warning/alarm goes off constantly and is a distraction. It also disables my cruise control which is another safety hazard. This has been an issue for over 2 years and is an extreme safety risk. I have called the dealership/service department for Dodge Ram monthly and keep getting told they will call me once parts are available. They stated they can look at the problem and possibly do a reset, but I will be charged for any work since they said it will likely not fix the problem.
My ABS light keeps coming on and off intermittently causing my cruise control to be interrupted and causing vehicle to slow down unintended in traffic. doesn't stay on and only comes on and off when it feels like it. This is dangerous and could cause my brakes to not work properly or have someone hit me from behind when cruise control kicks off at high speeds on the highway. This should be recalled.
[XXX]. Location : somewhere in rural Pennsylvania. Incident ahead of me in heavy traffic. Applied brakes, more forcefully than usual. Immediately warning lights and audible alarm appeared on dash. “Service ABS system” . Was located in very rural area , no safe place to exit highway. At next exit , pulled off , brakes appeared to be functioning as normal. But dash warning lights proclaimed no ABS system and no traction control. Also lost function of cruise control and trailer brake control.. cautiously proceeded to destination. Relative had code reader - revealed code C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control. Investigation on internet revealed this is a very common problem among Ram 2500 trucks. Very expensive and not covered under warranty. I believe the NHTSA has received numerous reports from other Ram owners as to this problem. This situation is very unsafe with the loss of these very important safety features. Ram has refused to address this issue. I’m reporting this today in hopes that this agency dedicated to Safety will address this in a very timely manner. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
HCU and ABS module brake failure causing the ABS and traction control warning lights and audible tone to intermittently go off. This also results in the cruise control failing to work. This is the second time of such occurrence. First at 3 years old and 30k miles and second at 6 years old and 50.5k miles.
The system that is malfunctioning is the braking system, ABS module, or HCU. The traction control light and ABS light intermittently flash, disengage cruise control and the antilock braking system. The lights never stay on consistently but rather they come on and off without any pattern. This same issue happened a right at 2 years and 30k miles previously which the truck was then taken to a dealership and supposedly replaced. However, the same issues are happening again with no indication as to why this part keeps failing. Truck has less than 90k on it currently, mainly highway use. There have been no inspections done, however, I plan to take it to the dealer in the near future.
My ABS light sporadically comes on and off. Dealership says it is the HCU module. It was replaced under warranty in 2020 and now has failed again. Wanting to file report so it is noted to help with initiating a recall on this failing part. I have read that the ABS module has also had similars issues with no recall as of to date either.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed ABS module and ABS pump. The contact was informed that the failure was due to the unrepaired recall. The contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, parts were not yet available. The contact expressed a fear of driving the vehicle because of the failure and the unrepaired recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact stated that the parts had been unavailable for more than a year. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
ABS light and traction control light comes on – says service electrical break system and antilock brake system
The service electronic brake system warning light and chime along with the traction control and ABS warning lights and the cruise control fails to work. This occurs frequently. The code is C0020-01 ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) Pump Motor ControlGeneral Electrical Failure I believe.
The abs and electrical brake system lights stay on. I’m worried that this will affect the functioning of the brake system. I’ve read many posts on forums about this happening to other people. It sounds like a manufacturer defect. I have not brought it to the dealer yet because the cost of repair sounds like a lot of money.
The Electronic breaking system, Antilock Brake System and traction control on my 2018 Ram 2500 failed in June 2024. My safety has been put at risk because my ABS does not work properly and neither does my electronic traction control which is unsafe for myself and others on the road. It has been inspected by the manufacturer but I was parts are not available for the repair. Yes, I have had the warning lights since June 2024.
I have had the ABS system failure happen for the third time. the first was around 24000 miles about May of 2020, repaired at a Ram dealer in New Mexico, I believe they only replaced the ABS ECU. The second time was 43,298 miles [XXX] 2022, they replaced the HCU AT Walker Ram in Alexandria Louisiana. It has now failed again with 65,723 miles on [XXX]. Every time it has cause the truck to lose the Anti-lock braking ability, traction control, cruse control & ETC. I feel that Ram should do a recall and fix the issue with a upgraded parts that doesn't fail every 20k so miles and cause a safety risk. The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the steering wheel was loose, causing the vehicle to wobble while driving over a minor bumpy road surface. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was inspected, and the dealer determined that the welds of the nut to the adjuster sleeve were fractured. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V021000 (Steering); however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the ABS and the traction control warning lights were illuminated, causing the cruise control mode to become inoperable. Additionally, the vehicle made a beeping sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the brake HCU needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that there would be a cost for the part to be replaced with the same part under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
Stellantis and RAM companies have had Manufacturer Recall NumberC4B NHTSA Recall Number24V-896 Recall Status: Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available This has been well over a year and I have lost the use of my Truck for loading my Truck Camper for the entire year due to their lack of resources allocated to fix this issue. I have had the Traction control light /ABS Service light associated with the HCU electric pump motor fail on this recall since June of 2024 and it is due to defective parts that do not last as this was the second HCU/Electric pump motor in the truck from the Manufacturer and installed serviced by my local RAM dealer dealer( first one failed at 11,500 miles approximately. my truck has 23,000 miles on it currently as and when the repair part(s) come into stock, it will be the 3rd unit installed. This time on waiting for upgraded parts to be installed under the Recall/Warranty is unacceptable and is not "TIMELY" at all. Additionally if this light comes on during driving with cruise control on it will shut off cruise control and can cause an accident from the deceleration.
abs warning light comes on. Dealer stated it cannot be repaired.
This complaint is the same as many seen by googling this problem. There’s a beep and then the ABS and traction control light come on. Message is given to service abs system. Then the message goes off and returns a few seconds later. this happens consistently during the driving duration. This only happens about every other driving session, but when it happens, it’s consistent. This is a known incident that is happening in 200s perhaps thousands of drivers. It sounds like a malfunctioning part to me, plus I have no idea if I have a real issue. I called ram care with no help.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving in the rain at 60 MPH, the brakes failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle in front stopped suddenly, and the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to immediately stop. The contact veered to the side to avoid a crash. The traction control warning light illuminated, and the message "ABS Service Required" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure had become worse. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated, and several audible alarms sounded. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the ABS control module. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who diagnosed an additional failure with the ABS pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 11,000.
My ABS/TRACTION CONTROL Electrical warning is coming on and shuts my cruise off. When driving at highway speeds and towing, this has caused me to swerve some and come close to be rear ended. I had the system replaced at 48000 miles for the problem and it is doing it again at 103000 miles. I can tap on the electrical motor on the system and get another week of use without warnings
My ABS system has started going off and on intermittently but regularly. It turns my cruise control off and creates a hazardous situation with both traveling on interstate and when raining as I have no ABS.
2018 Ram 2500 diesel truck, ABS braking system was intermittent and now has stopped working all together affecting the cruise control and the ability to stop without locking up the brakes all together. This has started a couple of years ago and the dealer said everyone is having the problem and parts are hard to get.
Vehicle keeps getting ABS control valve general power fault. Code scanned is C002001. Indications in vehicle are 1. Cruise control suddenly disengages if in use. 2. Instrument warnings of "ABS Control Failure" and "Electronic Braking System Failure" continue flashing for 10 seconds or sometimes constantly. Keeps happening to me on long trips away from home. Never locally. Gives the driver no idea if system is safe to drive or not. RAM forums on line are full of these complaints. I believe a recall is in order.
The Hydraulic Control Unit begins to malfunction presenting on the ECU as C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control-General Electrical Failure. This is fairly common in 4th generation 2500-3500 RAM trucks. The malfunction affects the ABS system, Traction Control system, and Adaptive Cruse Control system by deactivating them when the malfunction presents. This could cause the braking system and other systems to not perform in hard breaking/ emergency braking situations causing the operator to loose control of the vehicle. The Traction Control system and ABS system warning lights illuminate on the dash and the message of "service electronic braking system" is displayed on the HUD.
