Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had experienced the failure, and the ABS and ESC features became inoperable. The contact stated that unknown warning lights were illuminated, and an audible alarm was activated. The contact stated that during the failure the cruise control was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed, and the dealer related the failures to the recall. The failure mileage was 52,000.
*CRITICAL FAILURE: The Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) within the ABS has suffered a total malfunction. Due to the immediate risk of brake system failure and loss of operator control, the vehicle is grounded and remains available for technical inspection. *OPERATIONAL IMPACT-The compromised ABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) significantly degrades the vehicle's emergency braking capabilities. Under rapid-deceleration requirements, the system's failure to prevent wheel lock-up poses a direct risk of catastrophic loss of vehicle control and potential personnel injury. SAFETY IMPACT - This malfunction introduces an unacceptable safety hazard during high-speed or emergency maneuvers. The absence of functional ABS increases the probability of skidding and multi-vehicle collisions, thereby endangering the operator, passengers, and civilian traffic. *I have reported it to a dealer and I have called RAM customer care and have a Case number for Attorney to contact (96341810) *I have had the vehicle inspected by two mechanics and I have taken to dealers and they will not look at it since there is no parts available to repair it. *Initial Symptom Onset: The initial illumination of the ABS and Traction Control warning indicators occurred in June 2024, signaling a critical system fault. Diagnostic Evaluation: Upon presenting the vehicle for professional diagnostic service, it was determined that the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) required replacement. However, localized and national parts shortages resulted in an indefinite delay in the procurement of the necessary components. Manufacturer Recall Status: The vehicle remains in a degraded safety state pending the formalization and execution of a safety recall by the manufacturer (RAM) to address known HCU/ABS defects.
Traction control, electronic braking system and ABS warning lights flash and ding repeatedly with a warning message to service ABS system and Electronic braking system. Dealer and local shop cannot obtain parts. I need a safe truck for work.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 MPH, the front passenger's wheel detached from The vehicle and was pulled into the ditch where the the suds were replaced. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure could not be replicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.
The warning lights that I have a braking system malfunction continuously "bing" and display on the drivers console. This has been going on for approximately 1 year and Fiat Chrysler of America does not have a solution to this date. Here is the recall information: - Manufacturer Recall NumberC4B -NHTSA Recall Number24V-896 -Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available I reported this to the dealer approximately a year ago and have since taken to the dealer for service where they told me once again there is no fix for this problem. I have called FCA as well but they are unable to provide any additional information.
C0020--01 ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRIC FAILURE. Available for inspection. Safety of self and others is at risk in ABS brake failure. Independent service center has confirmed problem. Vehicle/component has not been inspected by mfg, police, insurance, or others (besides independent service center). Intermittent warning lamps and chimes began in June, 2024, approx 65k miles on the vehicle. My understanding is that this is a common issue, faulty component and also involves the Hydraulic Control Unit ("HCU"). These are expensive components and labor. Expense for repair/replacement should be covered by manufacturer.
Twice while going up a hill in the rain I was changing lanes and the cruise cut out causing the vehicle to slow down rapidly and kick out in the back. The cruise abruptly stops when the “service electronic braking system” and “service abs” lights and dinging come on. Apparently this also stops the traction control from working. Looking on the internet and forums, this is a very common issue. In fact, there is safety recalls on later model Rams with the same issue on the same parts. Why not the models that this started with?
ABS and Traction control light indicators on dash appeared intermittently. After diagnosing from the dealership, it is advised to changed the Antilock Brake System module. However, the dealership advised there is a block and that they must first change the Hydraulic control unit, although they say it is perfectly fine. While we have not had an accident (luckily) it appears there is an ongoing investigation and multiple lawsuits against Dodge/RAM/Chrysler for this systemic problem of faulty ABS on 2017-2018 Ram 2500/3500. My 2018 RAM 2500 only has 36,000 miles. This failure is premature and potentially very dangerous. The dealer could not advise whether my truck was safe to drive or not even if the indicator lights were off or on. I have not yet had the HCU replacement completed, however will have it completed next week. I am submitting this incident report as a pro-active report as this is a serious safety issue and one that is systemic across too many 2017-2018 Ram 2500. The manufacture is not allowing replacement of the ABS Module until the HCU is repaired which is an additional (Double) cost to the consumer.
"Service ABS" and "Traction control" warnings (and audible bell) coming on intermittently. Rough road surface doesn't cause it to happen more frequently, nor does speed of the vehicle (happens when still, in park, in drive, any speed). May happen several times in 30 minutes of driving, may not happen at all. I have not noticed a difference in braking or traction performance since this started.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the ABS warning light illuminated, and an alarm sounded. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the brake HCU had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that there were 7 units of parts available in the store, but the manufacturer had advised the dealer to prioritize the repair of commercial vehicles. The contact was advised that the part for the vehicle repair needed to be purchased. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Antilock Brake and Traction Control Warning Light comes on Intermittently while driving. Diagnostic Trouble Code C0020 - ABS Pump Motor Control: General Electrical Failure read with scan tool.
Second time my truck has thrown a code for the HCU being defective.
Service Electronic Braking System and Service Antilock Braking System lights have been popping on the dash for the last two months nonstop at random times. Sometimes I can drive for hours and not see them, then other times they flicker on and off constantly. It’s very frustrating as my truck has only 27000 miles for a 2018. I’ve checked rear wheel sensors and found a tiny bit of metal shavings which from what I’ve read could be wheel bearings but still don’t know a for sure answer. I’m about tired of chasing down this rabbit trail. What caused this was I was backing my trailer and I started to spin a little and the lights came on so I clicked into 4x4 and lights stayed on. I turned the truck off and thought nothing of it and next morning truck had no lights on that day. But ever since then I’ve been plagued with them going on and off.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH with the Cruise Control feature activated, the Cruise Control feature deactivated independently, and the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the ABS control module. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who confirmed the diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired because the part was not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The ABS control module on my truck goes in and out from working to not working constantly dinging. Because of the ABS control module being defective it makes the traction control faulty as well which I have almost gotten in numerous car accidents at this point living in Florida with the rain and sliding all over the place. I have tried researching this and it is a huge problem with the 2018 RAM 2500 trucks. I have tried to reach out to dealerships and there is no solutions they just say that the part is on back order for months and there is nothing that can be done at this time due to the overwhelming demand with people experiencing the same issue.
The abs control module has gone bad. When you take it to the dealership ship to get fixed they can’t order the replacement parts. The abs system is very important in heavy truck like these when it comes to drive on wet roads. The manufacturer should become responsible for making sure it get fixed and their is parts available to do so.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the ABS and Traction Control warning lights were illuminated. While attempting to use the cruise control, the system failed to activate. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issues and confirmed that the remedy was not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.
Day after purchasing my used 2018 ram the abs light and traction control started dinging continuously. Brought back to dealer they say there is no fix at this time. Abs control module and hcu need changed/repair but there are no parts available for fix. So now I have to pay/drive for truck that brake system /traction control does not work properly. Please do a recall on the and make them fix!! There are so many specifically 2018 ram models that have this issue. When you could purchase the part it was $1000 fix and no guarantee how long it would last. I believe dealer knew this issue and cleared code before I arrived.
General electrical failure of abs pump motor control. Intermittent issue causes loss of traction control, stability control and abs functions.
Vehicle warning lights and message on dash keep going off and on indicating need to service the ABS system following a break-job. Warning comes and goes as many as 30 times per minute. Anti-lock brakes and traction control are currently inoperable. Dealer cannot diagnose between electronic ABS module and hydraulic control unit blames one or both as culprit. Module is on back-order from Mopar due to this being a widespread and prevailing issue and they even suggested the matter has been escalated to their engineers for a more robust solution. My ABS pump module was replaced under warranty at 90k miles. I was quoted $1800 to repair upon part availability. I would appreciate the NHTSA investigating this matter for eligibility of a forced recall with Ram to pay some or all costs to remedy.
ABS and traction control lights come on intermittently. Cruise control won’t work when this happens. Problem seems to be a wiring issue and mainly happens during wet conditions and then stops after engine compartment warms up. I’m guessing ABS brake’s won’t function when light is on.
Intermittent or permanent loss of braking performance. ABS saying intermittent issues. Dash alarm came on and I do not have ABS or traction control.
ABS lights flashing
Abs light comes on. Part is not available
ABS and ECS warning indicators are continually coming on and going off. I have read many complaints on Ram forums that are identical to mine.
ABS and traction control light appear and disappear rapidly while driving. Message pop up saying service electronic braking system. The lights don’t stay on they go out immediately after chime. Notice it will sometimes (more often than not) come on when hitting bumps in the road.
Antilock braking system lights started coming on intermittently about 2 months ago. It would occur then stop for a few trips. It has progressed to a constant alert with a notice to have the ABS system serviced. The vehicle has less than 50,000 miles on it and is not used daily. It has been in the shop for over a week and they have not returned my calls as to the diagnosis. I have read that there have been alot of issues with this.
Truck has intermittent abs/esc light and warning for service electronic braking system, service abs system. Dealer has confirmed inactive codes and extended warranty will not cover unless they see active code. Being I live 1.5hrs front dealer and this is an intermittent light I have been unable to get it into the dealership while the lights are on and they're telling me the parts are on national backorder and they don't know when they can even get the parts
Electronic Braking System comes on and off after I hit a bump on the road. I am very worried about this issue. The dealer is not able to diagnos the issue unless it come on when I drop it off to them. This issues has been an issue for several months now. I checked online and several other Ram 2500 and 3500 owners are dealing with the same issue. Please help us do something about this.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and hauling an RV, the trailer brakes intermittently became inoperable. The message "Trailer Brakes Disconnected - Check Trailer Wiring" was displayed. The contact replaced the trailer wiring; however, the failure persisted. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the HCU had failed, and the failure was related to the trailer brakes' failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that the recall remedy was available. However, the dealer sent a document to the contact that stated that the part for the model year of the vehicle was not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
Faulty HCU/ABS Pump & Module. Known problem at Ram and there is a class action lawsuit in California regarding this problem. [XXX] v FCA USA LLC and STELLANTIS NV Intermittent service warning light regarding issue comes on sporadically with no prior warning nor damage to vehicle. Problem started a couple of weeks ago. Has the potential for injury to myself, other drivers and/or personal property due to failure of breaking system INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
2018 Ram 2500 with 6.7L Cummins Diesel The ABS warning light and traction control warning lights come on and go off constantly along with a message to check the braking system. The problem is intermittent. It might happen once in a trip or it might have 50 times in a trip, but it always happens. Losing traction control and ABS braking puts me and my passengers in a severe risk of injury as the vehicle will not be able to be maneuvered or stopped in an emergency situation or during dangerous road conditions. A search of online forums has revealed hundreds of people reporting the same issues with their vehicle.
Automatic electrical braking system failure while towing.
I am getting a code "C0020-01" causing my vehicle to not brake properly, traction control is deactivated, constant chime of the warning system, loss of cruise control and unstable driving conditions when driving on wet roads. Researching the code has led me to forums on the internet which shows there are several incidents of this issue common to the 2017-2018 Ram 2500 vehicles.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the ABS and Traction Control warning lights and the “Service ABS Control Braking System” message flashed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that simultaneously an audible chime was heard. Additionally, while driving at various speeds with the cruise control activated, the cruise control feature deactivated inadvertently and failed to re-activate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,850.
ABS warning light and alarm come on while driving. If you have cruise control on, it then cancels the cruise control. After a few miles the warning light and alarm will go off, and works good for a few miles. Then the same thing happens - warning light and alarm come on again. This has been an ongoing problem, over a year. Went to dealer where purchased vehicle. Was told that Chrysler doesn't have a fix for this and doesn't have parts to fix it either. So there is nothing I can do. No parts to fix, dealer can't help, and meanwhile I have a faulty vehicle which is my main vehicle I drive. The ABS system is real handy here in Minnesota because of slippery roads in the winter with snow and ice.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the traction control and the 4WD features were inoperable. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 120,000.
Randomly my abs, traction control and service ebs light came on driving down road. Currently don't have abs, cruise control or traction control. Know problem that won't get recalled with ram. Faulty hcu and abs module..
Service anti-lock brakes and service eclectic brake message and lights for ABS and Traction control lights flash on and off at random time for no reason. When this happens the cruise control also stops working.
The contact owned a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated the vehicle was parked overnight on the street and unoccupied when a loud bang was heard and it was discovered that the vehicle had caught on fire. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The fire department and police department arrived to inspect the vehicle where it was noticed the fire started on the passenger side of the engine however the exact origin could not be determined. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was consumed by the flames and there were only burnt framing remains of the vehicle. A police report was filed but the case number was not available. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle remained in the contact's possession. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
The truck has 57,000 miles, just started getting intermittent ABS, and Traction Control lights coming on and the dinger goes off when the lights come on. Thanks
ABS MODULE HCU MODULE Has failed, cruise control doesn't work, Dinging is non stop, Everytime I hit a bump it goes on and off
The ABS light and traction control light comes on and off over and over again. When it is on, its seems to not work as well on slick surfaces. I have seen that there are numerous complaints of the same thing on these trucks. I have been told it is not under warranty by a dealer. Only 21,000 miles. I purchased the truck in 2019. I put a code reader on the truck and it came up with C0020-01. 1. ABS Pump Motor Control 2. Recirculation pump- General Electrical Failure. The truck is avalible for inspection.
ABS and traction control warning lights coming in and out continuously while vehicle is on. Usually the lights will lock in after a while and then the ABS and Traction control will not function correctly. It is widespread with certain years of this vehicle and Ram refuses to admit a chronic problem.
Abs light. Electronic brake failure light

ads and traction control light comes on and off driving down road but no faults show up
ABS does not engage in emergency stops. Truck has been reviewed by a dealer noting a surge of HCU and ABS units malfunctioning. Parts are on a year lead time in order to repair.
Electronic brake control module failure, 2 nd time . Vehicle has less than 46000 miles. I am told this is. Very common problem due to defect in control motor and causes a braking safety issue.
