abs module failure. first time covered under warranty at 11,906 miles. second time not under warranty at 24,786 miles, and currently in failure mode.
Trucks and electronic braking and traction control randomly quits working.
While normal driving of my 2018 Ram 2500, I began to get random audible warnings, service anti-lock brake and service traction control system dash lights. The lights would flicker on and off and warning chime would 'bing" numerous times. This caused the cruise control to shut off while doing 65mph. Some drives I would get nothing, others would be a solid 5 minutes of flashing and chiming. Scan tool identified the C0020-01 DTC. ABS pump motor control general electrical failure. Appointment was made at local RAM dealer and I was told that the parts are unavailable and on national backorder. I am now uncertain driving the truck as I do not know if the brakes could go out randomly or fail completely. Upon researching this fault, it seems to be a very common issue with the 2018 Ram trucks.
ABS Warning light and alarm tone keep coming on when driving. This seems to be a common problem w/ this year and style truck.
The ABS lights and traction control lights alarm keeps flashing on and off at random intervals) on my 2018 Ram 2500 4x4 with 18,000 miles on it. When the ABS Light and traction control light come on intermittently it also disengaged the cruise controls. At first it was here and there or when I hit a bump or turning the steering wheel right or left. Thought it was possibly a wheel speed sensor. Checked code with scanner and got “ABS pump motor control-general electrical failure”. Thought the issue was the ABS module based on my scan. I tried to find the part I had to call all over the place due to supply chain issues. When I spoke to a parts person from a dealership I explained the issue and code. He stated that the General Electric code failure was the HCU and not the ABS module. It’s bad when your cruising at the speed limit of 70 mile an you and the cruise control quits working an you ned to react to the traffic but, my real concern is that the ABS won't work and could cause the truck wheels to lock-up during a panic/hard stop.
2018 Ram with brake module problems. In September 2022, warning lights came on stating that the antilock brake system and electronic brake system were failing. At this time the problem was known to the dealership and parts were found and replaced under my extended service contract. Parts replaced were the: Module, Anti-Lock Brake(68347098AB) and the Control, Anti-Lock Brake System(98143491AA). Replacement was done at Payne Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Edinburg with Mopar parts. Replacement was done September 15th, 2022 service repair order #565792. Mileage at the time of repair was 38,538. On November 5th, 2023 the exact same symptoms appeared. On November 28th, the truck was diagnosed at Payne CPDJR with needing the exact same parts replaced. Mileage at this point was 41,998. Clearly, this is a serious problem if the exact same parts need to be replaced after less than 4,000 miles. This is obviously a dangerous and ongoing issue that needs to be addressed. I have been advised not to take the truck outside the local area until repairs are effected. I have a truck because we live on the road full time and use it to tow our 5th wheel(total weight is 9,800 pounds fully loaded which is easily within the trucks towing capability). As of today, December 8, 2023 I was advised that the parts were at least 2 weeks out. I contacted Chrysler customer care and opened a complaint. When the modules show failure, the cruise control is inoperative and it is advised to take the truck into a dealership immediately. Someone needs to make FCA step up and take responsibility for this clear disregard for customer safety, by ensuring that these parts are reliable and available if needed. Having to replace the exact same parts twice shows a clear disregard for quality control and vehicle safety especially when these parts are going to take a month for the dealership to receive.
ABS and Traction Control lights coming on at random times. With Code C0020-01 Failure in pump motor control circuit.
ABS and traction control light comes up randomly. Sometimes comes on then off with a chime each time rapidly for the entire time the truck is driven. Or the lights will come on and just stay on. At times the brakes become hard to stop the vehicle. Also does not allow the cruise control to work. I use this truck to haul goose neck 8 ton dump trailer and a 36' fifth wheel not knowing if the truck brakes will work is very concerning. Took it to the Ram Dealership and was told needed to replace the ABS pump at $1260. Vehicle only has 63,000 miles.
The hydraulic control unit for the antilock braking system failed, causing a repeated dinging and loss of all antilock, breaking traction control, and cruise control capabilities. Dealership quotes parts are almost a year out, and I will be stuck driving the vehicle in an unsafe manner until it is repaired.
Random ABS and service traction control system lights displayed on the dash. Dealer troubleshot and found that the ABS module and Hydraulic control unit (HCU) need replaced. This is a common issue based on the dealers comments and ram does not have an adequate fix for the issue, only replacing components to see future failures. This needs to be handled, as it deactivates the ABS system and may cause issues in the event of a hard braking condition.
Service Antilock Brake System warning on at 19,600 miles similar to the many ABS/HCU failures reported on 2018 Ram 2500 trucks.
The ABS and Traction Control System light and warning engage intermittently when operating. The alarm startles the driver and unsure if system works
2018 Ram 2500 ABS hydraulic control unit failure
Anti-lock brake system (ABS) failure for second time in less than 18 months resulting in warning lights on dash, and message for service system. These include the ABS light/traction control unit light turn (warning lights, bells, and verbal system warnings) turn on whenever the truck goes over rough road, bumps, potholes, randomly, as well as starting up truck. The first incident began in July 2022 was brought into the dealer on July 18, 2022 and mileage on truck was 25,121 miles. Dealer diagnosed replaced the anti-lock brake system control unit for brake system and returned truck to me. In November/December 2023, the ABS light and traction control unit lights on dash keep coming on and system says to see dealer. These include the ABS light/traction control unit light turn (warning lights, bells, and verbal system warnings) turn on whenever the truck goes over rough road, bumps, potholes, randomly, as well as starting up truck. It also appears the cruise control will not work if the ABS system is in error. Dropped off at dealer 12/29/2023 and dealer advised that they could not repair at current time due to no parts available and earliest update may be late Jan 2024 if available. The parts that need to be replace per the dealer are the Anti-lock brake system control unit and the ABS module need replacement and no parts were available at the current time (12/29/2023) to repair the truck.
ABS lights go on and the truck chimes sometimes, not all the time. Cruise intermittently does not work as well. This is a well-documented issue online. I took this to the original dealer and he said this is a common problem. Even after getting it fixed, it will occur again. The dealer said it is still supposedly safe to drive, but it is very concerning to see ABS warning lights regularly popping up on my dashboard. Many others have parked their trucks and are not driving them because of this issue.
After much research and blogs this 2018 2500 diesel turbo has a problem with its antilock braking system module. I have taken it to several places since the light keeps going off and on and have no solutions since this part is on back order. I need to find a solution for this truck. Please advise someone.
2018 ram 2500 under 15k miles. Service ABS light started coming in a few hundred miles ago.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the ABS and traction control warning lights activated along with an audible alarm. The contact stated that during the failure, the cruise control feature was inoperable. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 42,500.
ABS control unit has gone out for 2nd time. Replaced at 15000 miles and at 59000 miles same issue and no resolve from Ram due to parts not available. ABS, ESP, Brake lights continue to show on dash. Cruise control and push button start effected and not working..
Our antisocial brake modele has been out since November 2023.The light keeps coming on. We had it checked with a diagnostic check twice and it was confirmed. The dealer cannot get the part and we have tried to escalate the problem through Chrysler, they refuse to do so. The mechanics can not tell us it is safe to drive so we are barely driving the truck. We are afraid we won't have brakes and if we are in an accident, it wouldn't be covered . They can't get the part and told us that they had more than 4,000 on backorder from our dealership. This is not covered and we have to pay over 450.00 just for the part and they can't even get it in.
2018 RAM 2500 Laramie Longhorn Megacab. In November of 2023 the Service ABS dash light and constant dinging bell started going off. I use my truck to transport cattle and heavy equipment. I noticed I had NO ABS breaking and it was NOT safe to drive and tow. I took my truck to my mechanic - after analysis on his computer I was told the ABS Module and the HCU both were bad and needed replacement. My mechanic attempted to order parts and was told that there the HCU was available but the ABS was backordered with NO KNOWN AVAILABLITY DATE. I contacted three dealers .... told the same thing ... also was told to drive the truck and tow ...very unsafe!!!! RECALL!!!!!
Antilock brake system control module failed causing loss of ABS.
Abs light and traction control light come on and off- sometimes stays on and sometimes fluctuates. Been a constant occurrence
often experience noticeable braking issues. illumination of the ABS or brake warning light on the dashboard, indicating a problem with the anti-lock braking system. difficulty maintaining proper braking pressure, especially in emergency braking situations or on slippery surfaces, where the ABS should engage. As a result, the vehicle's stopping distance increases, and I have noticed a lack of control during hard braking. In some cases, the brakes feel soft or spongy due to improper hydraulic pressure regulation. Additionally, intermittent or complete loss of ABS functionality has occurred, leading to less stable braking performance.
ABS Control module failure. My ABS warning lights started flashing last year and I spent $1500 to replace the ABS Control module 68143491AA. We are now about 6 to 8 months and it has failed again. This is a severe safety issue as I do a lot of traveling and towing. The ABS system is vital for the safety of my family and I.
Abs hydraulic control unit defective dealer and manufacturer have failed to produce replacement parts it’s been over 2 years
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the electronic brake control unit warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the ABS was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,000.
My 2018 Ram 2500 has 85,000 miles currently. At about 80,000 miles I got the ABS and Traction control warning lights along with dash messages to check the ABS amd electronic braking systems. I am a heavy equipment mechanic and thus checked the systems myself with a scan tool and other test equipment. I found that the ABS module has an internal electrical failure resulting in power not being supplied to the ABS pump/electric motor. I have verified that the pump works and has about a 48ohm resistance. If supplied with 12v and ground to the motor it will come on. Circuit testing from the electrical plug to the contacts for the motor one pin has contact and the other is an open circuit. I also have one seized plunger in the hydraulic control unit that is actuator by the motors eccentric lobe on the output shaft. After doing some research online I've found this is a very common issue on the 2017 and 2018 Ram heavy duty trucks, the 2500 and 3500 model specifically. I also found that neither the hydraulic control unit nor the ABS module have been available for purchase for a long time. I myself have been trying to order one for about 6 months. No dealer in my area can even give me an estimate time of availability. So currently I and many other have to drive a vehicle with a failed ABS system. This poses a greater risk of collision and unsafe braking. It is also a requirement to be working to pass a vehicle inspection so selling the vehicle or depending on state lived in you may not even be able to drive the vehicle at all.
My RAM truck was recalled several months ago but has not been fixed due to no parts available for the fix. What am I to do? Dealers are no help at all. It has been almost 2 years since I have been trying to get this fixed. Please get RAM to get this recall done.
Abs/traction control errors Alarm keeps coming in and going off This is the 3rd time this truck has had the same issue
Warning light stating "Service Automatic Braking System". Failed ABS module and Hydraulic Control Unit resulting in absence of Automatic Braking System brakes. Taken to Dealership and told unable to fix due to inability to find parts...Earliest part will be available is 6 months from time of inspection.
I'm just reporting the failure of my HRU as many RAM owners have experienced. The dealer ship replaced the part with the new model. When this fails it happened at highway speeds disabling the cruise control while towing a trailer. Becuase of busy traffic and under heavy weight when the truck fell on its face. I was almost rear-ended due to the sudden loss of speed. Very dangerous when towing.
Whenever it rains or is high humidity, my dashboard lights up and repeatedly chimes with ABS lights and Electronic Braking System error. The error repeats itself on and off again every few seconds. It is a dangerous distraction of error messages. Since it is raining, all traction control and ABS systems deactivate themselves with this error. I spun out this morning due to the error. It is absolutely dangerous. This is the EXACT error that occurred on my previous Ram. This is a dangerous faulty hydraulic control unit (and ABS system). Upon a little research, I found tens of thousands of posts of owners being stranded or driving without ABS / traction control due to this malfunction. This is deadly and needs to be recalled. RAM is aware of this issue but has not issued a recall. It is raining today, and my RAM will not have traction control or ABS. This is unacceptable. This is affecting tens of thousands of owners. With upwards of $1,600 for a repair. Yet, the part can create a fault AGAIN within weeks or months. DANGEROUS.
The ABS pump has failed for the second time, my vehicle has less than 80000 miles on it. The first replacement was covered under factory warranty. I have researched this issue and have found this to be a common issue and at this time the factory is not issuing a recall. Dodge/Ram is well aware of this issue and the repair should be covered as a factory defect.
The truck started intermittently throwing code for C0020-01 (service Antilock Brake system). I will intermittently lose ABS/Cruise/trailer brakes, and being the primary vehicle in our family, the truck has become unsafe to transport my wife and 7 months old child. I've aware the HCU/ABS module both need replaced, but some of these parts aren't available from the dealer, and it will be multiple thousand dollars to repair IF they ever get the parts in. This is a known, very dangerous, safety issue that FCA need to address.
The Antilock and Tracktion controll lights come on and off with a chime while driving. It also disables my Cruse Controll when it goes off.
Electrical warning for electronic ABS Braking System and Module to include traction control. Initial evaluation at Dealership on 10/25/2023 Since then, the parts have been order, but unavailable through the dealer or through the Customer Care team at Dodge. Multiple phone calls, emails, etc., and still the parts have no estimated delivery. No solution has been offered by the Dealer or by Dodge and the truck is unsafe to drive.
Automatic brake system module, HCU abs pump. SAFETY. malfunction of part. Known to be world wide problem. Confirm by dealer scanner code. Continuously, warning light and alarm. Response from dealer manufacturers of 2018 ram 2500 diesel, known problem, no recall. Dealer for part can not give time, date when part can become available. Can not give time or date when part will be available?
ABS Brake control warnings have been flashing on and off for many weeks. Took it to the dealer that sold me the truck and they said that they cannot get the parts and it may take several months or longer. I did some online reading in RAM truck forums and this is an ongoing problem for many 2018 RAM truck owners. Some have been waiting over 5 months to have the ABS control modules replaced and all of us are having to drive an unsafe vehicle while waiting.
The truck constantly has an ABS Module and Stability control failure/ code turning on and off causing the ABS/ Cruise Control/ Traction control to no longer function. Research shows that the ABS Module and Hydraulic control unit need to be replaced and programmed by a dealership and parts are nearly impossible to find
My 2018 RAM ABS warning indicator light goes on and off continually. Also the HTC control unit warning lights. Dealership has a back order of 12 months is not more to replace the parts. 123 ordered at our local dealership alone. Please force Dodge to recall and replace faulty parts at their expense.
ABS system needs maintenance, no fix up to this.point dealer does not want to assist.
ABS light and traction control light comes on all the time and when lights comes on curse control stop working, by lights coming on all the times don't feel safe to drive truck.
My truck was repaired in September of 2021 at a dealership due to a faulty HCU for the ABS system. I got a famed Ram service electronic braking system message along with service ABS system. After being replaced, I now again as of three weeks ago (10-21-2023) have the same service electronic braking system message with an electrical fault code for the HCU. After visiting the dealership, I was told there were not parts to replace it at this time and they could do nothing for me. Also, my service rep stated that Stellantis is reengineering the part due to known faulty problems however time frame is unknown. With this light on I have no ABS, no traction control, and no cruise control. The no ABS and traction control is a major issue for a heavy duty truck especially while pulling a trailer as brakes can now lock up due to no ABS control. This is obviously a safety issue and I'd hope this would become a recall and quality safe parts would be utilized to fix it.
anti-lock braking system has failed for the second time. First time was 2 yrs ago while under warranty. Truck only has 47430 mi on it.
Traction control and abs warning lights flash on and off intermittently also cruise control not working when this happens. It is sporadic
The HCU in which controls your ABS and Traction control will malfunction while driving down the road when this happens you have no ABS, traction control or cruise controls. The dealer part is unavailable through the dealer due them saying that they are reviewing it. This is a major safety concern due to the fact if you are traveling and it malfunctions and need to stop quickly you cannot or if it malfunctions and have cruise control set to a speed it will slow you down and can cause an accident. When vehicle was carried to dealer and asked what to do the dealer just said to drive it and don’t follow to close to anyone, that is not the answer that needs to be given.
Braking failed on vehicle, manufacturer refuses to provide repairs parts nationwide on all Ram 1500,2500,3500 trucks
ABS Failure Code 0020.1/1
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the ABS module had previously been replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module needed to be replaced a second time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
