Anti-Lock Braking System Faulting. Near catastrophic incidents while towing.
The ABS control pump motor is malfunctioning causing loss of the anti lock braking, four wheel drive, and cruise control. The dealerships have no ability to get parts to repair and they have been on back order indefinitely.
ABS Brake module has failed which makes it dangerous in certain conditions to brake/slow the vehicle. Also the TPMS system, Cruise control, and all 4 wheel drive components will not work as they are processed through this module. This module failed in October 2023 and is unavailable for my mechanic to fix my truck. It is now February of 2024 and I am being told that this module will not even be available for order for my mechanic to fix until June of 2024. This is dangerous and unacceptable to have a braking system not working properly for 8 months or more! Service ABS system, TPMS light, and Traction control lights came on when this first happened in October of 2023 and have stayed on constantly since then.
The ABS dash light and traction control light started coming on about a year ago. the light is intermittent with a ding sound. Some days it comes on non stop, sometimes it doesn’t come on at all. cruise control does not work, and “park rear” button is not able to get out of the off mode.
I keep getting alarms on my truck for the ABS system and brake controlling system. I took the vehicle to a dealer to find out the problem and was told the HCU and the ABS module both need to be replaced and this is a common issue with my year and model truck. I was informed my repair bill would be over $1900. I tow a fifth wheel camper on a regular basis and do not want to have my brakes lock up while an 11,000 pound trailer is behind me.
I’ve just started experiencing the ABS light coming off and on. Did some research and find that this is a common problem wish my truck. Making appointment with dealer to have it checked out. Also about a year ago my radio had to be replaced as the screen was delaminating. Was told this also common problem but Ram was of no help. Had to buy new radio. Now my truck only has 32,000 miles on it and was under 30 when radio was replaced. But I’m second owner and ram would not warranty it. Now that I’m researching this site I’m seeing many problems that are consistent with mine. This should be a recall. The brakes and the radios. Think I’ll be trading this truck off.
Abs module. Antilock brake system failure. Known issue by manufacturer.
The truck has a faulty antilock brake hydraulic assembly. The ABS and Traction control warning lights illuminate intermittently, especially when hitting bumps in the road. When the lights are in the ABS brakes and traction control systems are not available. The trouble code in the ABS module is for an open circuit in the ABS pump motor. When the issue occurs and the lights are on the ABS brakes and traction control do not function correctly. I am a professional automotive diagnostician that owns a vehicle diagnostic business and I am also a college instructor for automotive courses. So please understand this issue was diagnosed properly. I have diagnosed the issue to an open circuit internally to the ABS pump motor which is part of the ABS hydraulic assembly. The motor was disassembled and Inspected after all of the external circuits were properly diagnosed and no issues were found with any associated external wiring or controls. It was found that the brushes in the motor assembly that contact the commutator inside the motor are sticking in the brush holders. This sticking of the brushes in the brush holder cause the brushes to lose contact with the motor rotor which then causes the code to set and the lights to illuminate. This is more apt to happen when the motor is shaken by the movement of the vehicle hitting bumps causing the commutator to move away from the brushes which are sticking in the brush holders. This in turn sets the motor circuit open code. I have diagnosed this same issue for several other repair shops in my area. All of the involved trucks are 2018 Ram 2500. They all have the same exact issue.
ABS warning lights came on while driving, early October 2023. Dealer diagnosed problem as faulty pump control, faulty module. Lights continue to flash while operating vehicle, along with the cruise control being disabled. Dealer has pump control, module is unavailable, with no known date of availability. Therefore a repair has not been made and I have no choice but to continue driving the truck in unsafe condition.
ABS CONTROL MODULE light stays on and dealer says the module is defected and has to be replaced at a cost of around $2600.00. No parts are available due to UAW strike. Told to drive it as is cause parts may not be available till January. I feel Ram corporation should be responsible for cost to repair vehicle only has 46000 miles. Thank you
This is now my second ABS module that has failed. I gave a detailed description of the brushes getting stuck in the valve body motor. This particular situation is exactly the same as before. Intermittent on/off of the traction control ABS and stability system. I have not disassembled this particular unit because of the part being unavailable. Tapping on the motor itself will make the fault go away which leads me to believe that it's similar same failure. The tapping motion allows the brush to move forward and touch the commutator. I still have the original motor from my initial failure analysis. If it would be of any use, you're more than welcome to reach out and I will be glad to ship it to you. This is a serious safety problem because you never know if the system is working or not.
When I had to use excessive pressure on brakes, I received a DTC and a messaged flashed on my display to service ABS system as well as TCS. I had the DTC read which showed C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control General Electrical. It was cleared but when I drove over a speed bump at my kids' school, the same message displays. The message has also displayed during wet weather and minor wheel spin (over white painted crosswalk lines) from a stop. I spoke to a technician from the Chrysler dealership and was informed this has become common and to file a concern here.
Truck has 26xxx miles on it. ABS and electronic braking system light comes on and off randomly. Causing me to lose traction control, cruise control and ABS. Dodge dealership run diagnostic on it and stated it has a bad HCU. Their are currently about 400k trucks with this same issue. Dodge is aware of the problem and the safety hazard of this issue. Dodge refuses to issue a recall. Cost to repair is $1000. Please force dodge to issue a recall and take responsibility for this mechanical failure
Intermittent ABS / traction control light diagnosed as the ABS / hydraulic control unit. I see this is a very common issue and very dangerous.
The truck randomly started flashing service electrical anti skid braking system. It will go on and off randomly and other times stay on all the time. It will not allow cruise control to work and I’m guess my ABS will not work either if I need it. I bought the truck with 132K miles on it and the light starting coming on at 134K miles. I don’t want to possibly injury others or myself is the ABS does not work. I took it to the dealership and the light went out and they couldn’t see any codes. The light is back and almost always on. Going to take it back to the dealership. To see if they know what is wrong since this is a known issue with most Ram trucks.
Hydraulic Control Unit Failed. Yes, it is available for inspection. The hydraulic control module controls the wheel speed and traction control system, without these systems working properly it has caused traction control issues and caused loss of control of the vehicle. Yes, Patriot Dodge and Chrysler in Oakland Md Diagnosed the problem. No, the component has not been inspected! Yes, there were Two lights on the dash (ABS light and Traction control light), Also My Cruse Control would not set the speed. I lost control of my vehicle and fortunately there was no property damage, and no one was injured. If the ABS and Traction control system had been working properly this incident would not have happened. This is definitely a safety issue for these vehicle owner's and the motoring public as well as anyone in the immediate area.
ABS warning light intermittent chime and warning. It affects cruise control and highway/street handling. Warning light and chime stays on or is intermittent.
Service ABS and Electrical Braking System lights constantly turn on and off making an audible beeping noise while vehicle is driving. Sometimes lights stay off for a little, other times it turns on and off repeatedly, and sometimes it stays on for entire time. Unknown if braking system is working properly if they were needed in an emergency situation.
Abs light continusly going on and off
Abs light, traction control and electronic braking system. Took to dealership, said its a known problem. No parts are available until February 21 2024.
abs / traction contol light keeps coming on. dealer not able to replace part because of so many trucks having this same problem that the new ABS hydraulic control unit (HCU) will not be available until sometime in 2024 and will be up to all customers to replace at customer cost. should be a recall done becuase there is an over 50% fail rate on these units. 2017-2018 ram 2500 trucks
Service ABS light comes off and on sporadically. This is a known problem through out the country and needs to be addressed by a recall.
ABS light comes on and off constant. Service abs system, service electronic braking system. Ram came up with the code HCU hydraulic control unit failure. They will not fix it unless I come up with the 1500$$ to fix it out of pocket. My truck just turned over 60k this is ridiculous. Go on google and please type this in. It a massive issue in all 2018 rams. Should be a recall at this point. If you guys can fast forward me to get repaired please let me know I feel as if this could cause harm if the brakes lock up or I get in a skid situation if could cause harm to myself or others or properties. Please call if we can nip this in the bud. [XXX] . Thank you to whom will be reading this and I really look forward to hearing from you. I honestly can’t afford to just dish this out of pocket cost for something that should be under warranty. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Warnings About Service Electronic Brake System. (ABS and Traction control lamps light), system audible pings. Issue where system continues to show, ping for this issue. RAM is aware of these issues and will not provide parts. Concerned about safety, brakes seem to work fine, just unsure.
The ABS and Traction Control lights flash and ding on/off intermittently. Sometimes the lights on the dashboard come on as soon as I leave the driveway and sometimes it takes several miles. But once they flash on and ding on the dashboard, the lights flash on and off intermittently for seemingly no reason at all. I am not sure if this is due to an electrical issue, a hydraulic control unit issue, or something else, but something is not right, making the lights and dashboard flash/ding a lot.
At exactly 75100 miles my 2018 Ram 2500 Tradesman gets a warning light to service my anti-lock braking system. Since I was on a trip I also noticed when the warning comes on it also disengages the cruise control. This has been happening for over 1,000 miles and a couple of months. I've tried to look up to see if there's a recall, but there isn't. I do see several hundred posts/complaints online and even other people contacting NHTSB about this issue. My truck seems to be acting fine now, but I haven't had the time to bring it into a dealership since I'm constantly on the road. I have tried to contact a Ram dealership service department, but no help come of it. Since Ram knows about this, they should recall the trucks and fix them.
Electronic Barking System. Brake Anti Lock System Frequently Flashes Alarm on dash screen. Yes it's available for inspection upon request Alarm is going off so we are at risk at any time. Seen by Dealer. Diagnostic code DTC C0020-01. Tech verified the DTC is active. Tech has isolated problem to the ABS system. I've read up on this issue it is apparent the is a VERY COMMON ISSUE. Why are there no recalls on this problem?
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS and traction control warning lights were intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the hydraulic motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the hydraulic motor had previously been replaced twice under warranty; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
Brakes when depressed do not pull equal. No cruise control. 4 wheel drive is not working properly. Traction control not functioning properly Have brought vehicle to a garage. Abs/hcu unit is the problem.
ABS/BRAKE warnings and a Service Electronic Braking System lights on, related to Symptom/Vehicle Issue: C0020-01-ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE and Class Action Lawsuit Civil Action No. 4:22-cv-00447
Hydraulic cont module/ abs module is constantly going in and out causing the abs/traction control to be disabled and non functional cruise control. Highly unsafe when towing heavy like I do most of the time.
error code c0020-01abs/hcu pump motor control. i am one of thousands with the problem of getting abs and traction control lights flashing on my dash of my truck. it takes away my abs brakes my cruise control and the trailer brakes. i use my truck to pull a large trailer which has forced me to stop using my truck and it is now useless to me.please help us all and force ram to recall and fix our problem. my truck is a 2018 2500 and has 18,000 miles on it. and now i can not use it.
ABS code c0020-01 indication of module failure. This is the second module on the truck. Seems to be a major issue with these year trucks and back ordered parts for there past several.
I am experiencing intermittent warning by dash red light, warning dings & digital warning. Check brake system. The issue seems to be increasing in frequency as the last time I used the vehicle-it dinged every few miles. I understand that the ABS & TSC systems are inactive when warning displays. I called my local dealer to have vehicle inspected/ repaired and was told to come in for diagnosis but the parts for suspected failure are not currently available. I am in an area with rain expected for several days and am concerned with driving under these conditions.
At approximately 30,000 miles the vehicle warning lights for "Service ABS" and "Service Electronic Brake System" began flashing intermittently. I took it to the local dealer and they replaced the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) on 5/12/2021. Approximately 2 months ago the exact same warning lights began flashing again so we took it back to the dealer yesterday 9/28/2023, 53,000 miles, and they diagnosed it as being the HCU and recommended that we do not drive the vehicle. They want to charge me for the exact same repairs that happened 23,000 miles ago. This issue is known but yet they will not fix this vital safety component of the vehicle. I cannot believe that a recall has not been initiated for this safety hazard.
I have the warning light that comes on and message stating to " Service Antilock Brake System" and " Service Electronic Braking System". I have spoken to 2 different dealerships, and both tell me that it is an issue with the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit. Both dealerships tell me that no replacement parts can be ordered and there is nothing that can be done to fix problem. The vehicle has less than 50,000 miles and the brakes do not work as they should. This is a major safety issue, and I am being told there is nothing that can be done about it.
Abs traction control light is on again this is the second time this has happened dealer replaced abs module lasted a little over two years now problem has started again.
This is the second complaint filed for the same issue. Tracking number 11441949. I understand there is an investigation open for this issue. PE 22-012. Opened 11/28/22. My truck was repaired under warranty December of 2021 It has failed again in September of 2023. after less than 2 years and 20,000 miles. The ABS/Traction control system as well as cruise control unexpectedly without warning stops working. Since I use my truck to tow heavy trailers this is not a very good scenario. The alarm and warning on the dash at times repeatedly and randomly sounds while driving. When this occurs I have no ABS function, or hill decent control. The Hydraulic Control Unit Part #68143491aa is the part that failed and was replaced under warranty. It has since been obsoleted by Ram and replaced by a different part #. Was this because they knew they had a problem? At any rate, I am left to pay to have this fixed again and worry about when it might fail the next time.
The ABS and traction control warning lights recently came on causing the antilock brake system to not function. Took the truck to the dealer and was informed that the HCU for the antilock brake system is bad. I was told that the replacement part is on back order and they have not been able to locate one yet.
I have approximately 86000 miles on my truck and today the Service Electronic Brake system warning starting coming on and off. Along with the ABS light and traction control light. Randomly flashing on and then off. Staying off most of the time. I did a search and apparently this is a huge issue with these trucks, a couple of electronic assemblies melting together and going out. This needs to be a recall that Ram pays for. What happens if my brakes go out?
The contact owns a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, the brake pedal felt firm, and more pressure needed to be applied to the pedal in order to stop the vehicle. The Abs and electronic brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to a faulty ABS module and HCU, both needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that they did not have the parts for repair. The failure mileage was approximately 40,438.
Tractions control and abs light consistently flashing. Throwing a code for the HCU. I see there’s a class action lawsuit for this already placed.
Keep getting “service anti-locking brake system” and “service electronic brake system” that intermittently turns off and on. 2018 Ram 2500 6.4L with 81,000 miles. Appears to be a common issue but no recall has been made.
ABS/TRACTION CONTROL light comes on intermittently while driving and or braking, when this happens the cruise control quits working. Took to the dealership they diagnosed this to have a code C0020. The failure is the Hydraulic Control Unit. Which is on back order with no ETA. When the light comes on you have no ABS or traction control. The dealership inspected the fuses, wiring. This problem happens every time you drive it and can be duplicated.
Anti-lock braking system rendered inoperable by defect hydraulic control unit. ABS inoperative, frequent audible alarms and flashing lights on dash. Dealer explained that problem is common and that replacement part is not available until May of 2024 at the earliest. This vehicle should be recalled. Federally mandated ABS is inoperative and cannot be fixed for at least six months. This vehicle is my daily transportation. Dealer told me that I'll "have to deal with it" till parts become available. Vehicle almost left the highway during braking on a downhill in the mountains in rain. Vehicle was towing just over 5000 pounds at the time, well within tow rating.
The ABS (anti-lock braking system) and EBS (electronic braking system) failed in the fall of 2023. I was told by the dealer that a new part could be ordered on 21-FEB-24. On 21-FEB-24, a new bulletin was released that indicated a new part could be ordered in JUN-24. This is ridiculous. When are you guys going to do something? How many near accidents, near accidents, etc. is required for you guys to rain on the Stellantis parade? These trucks are dangerous and they have been out of reliable service going on a year. Are you going to force Stellantis to compensate owners for the loss of their truck for close to a year or do you view this as BAU? I have to say I am completely disgusted by the apparent inability of Stellantis to properly resolve this issue. I am also disgusted that you guys have done nothing.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the traction control and cruise control failed to operate as needed. The alert for the ABS was inoperable. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated on the instrument cluster. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed HCU, and the pump and the control unit were replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was contacted on two occasions and informed that there was no time frame for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 72,205.
The ABS/Traction Control System (TCS) error flashes intermittently while driving the vehicle. This dash warning states the ABS and TCS systems are non-functional. The vehicle is available for inspection. Safety is adversely impacted by the braking system not performing its design function. Traction Control perturbations can also have adverse impacts to the drivers control of the vehicle. This vehicle has has yet to be inspected, but similar failures for this make/model indicate a faulty ABS module and/or sensor issue. Warning error messages are broadcast frequently via the instrument cluster display. Initial warnings @ 32k miles, fall of 2023.
ABS and traction control light are intermittently flashing.
ABS, and traction control systems fail intermittently. Lights come on and flash and ABS and cruise control no longer work. Happens at various speeds and times. Sometimes can be addressed by pulling over turning off the vehicle and restarting. Dealer states that ABS module and pump need to be replaced but have no available parts. I was advised that the estimated cost is ~ $1800 and the problem may arise again. This is on a vehicle that has less than35k miles
