I purchased 4 new tires and wanted a front end alignment. There was an issue with drag link so the fox was Chrysler to weld draglink now that has been done before I purchased truck I can’t do alignment. Dealership said should be covered but have to wait until they hear from Chrysler. Going in 5 weeks still haven’t heard back I have called numerous times!
ABS/HCU modules have failed. A loss of ABS and braking power have been experienced. When towing, this creates a problem as it happens very suddenly and intermittently, placing myself and others at risk of loss of braking power. Warning lamps indicating ABS failure/electronic braking system service is needed come on only when braking, and is intermittent. There is no indication of a problem until brakes are applied.
Continued failure of hydraulic control unit (HCU) and Anti-lock brake system (ABS) module causing fluctuations in brakes at times (have to press harder on brakes) and lights go on and off, sometimes staying on for lengthy periods (usually on highway) or while driving and disables the cruise control. Second time in just under 3 years (fixed in Nov 2020 and reported to dealer Sept 2023), same issue on parts both time, fix identified as faulty HCU and ABS module as dealer identified issue and placed order for parts (5 month backorder to Feb 2024 as apparently very common issue with these trucks). The issue is both the change in brake sensitivity due to this part failure and the sudden cancellation of cruise control, the braking impacts the braking performance and cruise control drop out causing sudden drop in speed on highways.
My 2018 Ram 2500 threw and ABS warning lamp and code C0020-01, which was confirmed by Key Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Rochester, NH on [XXX]. I lost brake performance on my drivers side. Upon removing the brakes on the passenger side I discovered the pads had disintegrated, while the drivers side pads showed considerably less wear. Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) has failed, causing repeated ABS and traction control warning lights with audible chimes. Vehicle is currently at the dealer to try and fix the issue. This first occurred during a long road trip with no prior issues or signs of a problem. The first time it occurred, I was towing a trailer and on cruise control. When the dash lights and audible chime went off, it kicked me out of cruise control, which immediately caused the vehicle to slow while in traffic at highway speeds. While researching this issue recently, it seems this is a common and well known issue with Ram trucks of similar year and model, with no recalls being issued.
warning lamp repeadly blinds on dashboard to service abs brake system. turns out this is a common problem with the ram abs control module going bad. this is confirmed by dodge dealership and there's a long waiting list for the replacement part. driving with afaulty abs module results in poor braking performance.
first evidence of a problem had to deal with the accelerator pedal A new pedal was installed. .The engine would start but only idle, truck would not move when put into drive .It had to be towed .Then it was something about a door sensor .It was replaced .Then the brake fluid problem started. It used 2 full quarts with no drips on the floor . Now I am told that the brake booster / hydraulic system Is the problem. This truck Has only 31,000 miles ,Not driven in the winter and looks like new . I am now afraid of the safety issues associated with plowing into another vehicle in a panic stop , The truck has been in the dealer (Jeff Wyler ,Canal Winchester, Ohio ) for nearly 8 weeks . It has been promised last Friday then Tues, then Thursday. Today is Friday and the service advisor (Jay or Joey) are not returning my calls. Please let know what I should expect . Antilock brake light and traction control failed. Bad HCU
Hydralic control unit is bad causing on dash safety alert for service electronic brake system alert and anti lock brake system alert. When towing will not have brakes to assist in stopping tow vehicle. The alarm constantly going off distract your attention from the road. Upon going to the dealer for repairs I was told they are on national back order and may not be available until after the 1st of the year. It apparently a widespread issue with all 2017 and 2018 Ram 2500s. I am unable to tow my 38' 5th wheel camper for fear I will lose my brakes on the tow vehicle putting myself and others at risk. The anti lock brakes not functioning properly could result in losing control of the vehicle when road conditions are wet or slippery. This loss of traction put me and other motorist at risk. Ram know there is a problem with the HCU. My understanding is they have had to completely re-engineer the part and as such has created an availability problem for anyone owning these vehicles. There are several blogs and forums online describing this as well as a class action suit initiated by the state of California. Would appreciate you looking into this matter and getting Ram to do the right thing. Thank You
ABS control module is bad. Makes abs and traction control lights blink on and off erratically. Have had it replaced over a year ago under warranty for the same problem. Now it's doing it again and was told part wasn't going to be available tell February of 2024.
My truck has an intermittent ABS light along with a traction control light and a message displaying Service antilock brake system and service electronic brake system. these lights also sometimes stay on until the next ignition cycle or even several ignition cycles. it also disables the cruise control as well causing an extreme loss of speed on the highway especially when traveling up steep grades. there were no issues leading to the cause of the lights to come on to my knowledge and i have not visited any sort of dealership or service center regarding this issue nor do i have the time or funds to correct this issue at this time.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 MPH, the ABS warning light illuminated, causing the deactivation of the cruise control. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the hydraulic control unit and ABS sensor needed to be replaced. The contact was informed by the dealer that the part to repair the vehicle was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
ABS and Traction Control Warning lights keep Dinging, almost hit someone an actual person ABS fluttered and failed locked up brakes and missed person by inches. MFG is saying this is NOT a safety issue? When will is be a safety issue missing someone, Killing Someone or crashing my truck and missing myself?
Truck has 44,945 miles on it and began showing intermittent ABS and Traction Control lights on the dash. This is a known problem on RAM trucks which the ABS module or the Hydraulic Control Unit needs to be replaced. I have noticed lack of braking power when this fault appears on the dash. Both while pulling a 9,000 lb RV and without pulling anything. The vehicle scan showed a C0020-1 ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) Pump Motor - General Electrical Failure.
Vehicle showing Electronic Brake System as well as Antilock Brake system and traction control system not working. Pinging all the time, currently 165,000 miles on truck. Same issue was dealt with on 8/15/2020 with 39512 miles on truck. Was an out of pocket expense for $927.10 to fix this very important safety related issue. The cruise control is also affected by these messages and will not work. This is known issue around the country with these trucks and something must be done. If folks don't have money to fix or parts to get fixed we will just drive these safety hazards down the highways and jeopardize ourselves and others. What is your fix to this known problem because you all obviously are not correcting the issue for the known problem.
24700 miles is when the Warning lights and chimes started. I went on line and apparently this is a common problem with 2018 Ram Trucks. ABS Warning and "Service Electronic Braking System" Lights are on. Went to dealer (Wilson Jeep Chrysler Dodge Ram) they didn't even look at the Truck or hook it up to Diagnostic. They said it's the Hydraulic Control Unit . Parts are on National Back Order, they know about the problem and their shop as fixed over 60 trucks alone. *Manufacturer as not issued any recalls addressing this issue*
ABS and traction control system failure. Allows dangerous wheel lockup in snowy or slippery conditions. Also cruise control function failed. The warning lights sometimes cease and cruise control function resumes however the function will suddenly fail when warning lights resume. Tires have locked up several times in snow and created momentary loss of control. In addition, sudden loss of cruise control while in use causes sudden loss of speed while at freeway speeds. Dealer says that ABS and HCU modules are bad. Vehicle has not been inspected by mfg, police, insurance. Was reviewed by dealer. Warning lights for ABS started appearing in September of 2023 and before there were any wheel lockup issues. The cruise control function failed immediately when warning lights appeared.
My truck has had a recall done on the ABS system. After the recall I had another problem with the ABS system where the ABS and traction control warning lights and chime came on and then off. This condition was very distracting while driving!! It eventually stayed on all the time. My cruise control did not work and I imagine the ABS braking system didn't work. All the time the dealer was saying there were no parts. I found another dealer and had to wait a few weeks and they replaced the ABS HCU and hydraulic unit. This was in 2022. It is now 9/13/23 and it is starting again!!! I am going to take it back to the dealer and hope they finally will resolve the problem. ABS brakes have saved many lifes. This problem needs to be fixed. There are countless concerns on the internet of this problem with RAM trucks, apparently 2017 and 2018 are the most affected. Please put some fire under FCA/RAM and help get this problem repaired.
The ABS warning light comes on and off continuously while driving the truck.
ABS module has gone out 3 times since I bought the truck new. Without the ABS system working properly the stopping distance could be reduced. Dealer has acknowledged the problem, saying they had a bad batch of parts but that seems to be incorrect. Looks to be a bad design with the number of these problems on these year model trucks. The dealer has already replaced the part twice and it’s gone out again, less than a year later. Warning lamp, message, and audio alarm cycle on and off intermittent but constant through a drive.
Warning lights for ABS and Brake system flash on and off continuity while driving at any speed or stopped, with a message displaying "Service Electronic Brake System" and a warning chime. This typically occurs once every 2-3 seconds. Truck was taken to Local Ram Dealership in Early October of 2023 for diagnostics. Dealership stated issue was the hydraulic control unit causing the warnings, but parts were on hold for inspection by Ram so the issue could not be repaired. As of Feb 2024 the dealership has informed me the repair parts are still on hold at least until April 2024. The hydraulic control unit problem disables ABS, Traction Control Stability Control and Cruse Control systems.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the ABS and stabili-trak warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that an audible beeping alarm was sounded. The contact stated that when the ABS warning light and other warning lights eliminated, with the Cruise Control activated, the cruise control would deactivate and needed to be reactivated by depressing the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the failure recurred while driving at various speeds. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed and had not been repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22012 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
HBU failed at 86,000 miles. Caused lose of ABS system, Traction control system, and cruise control.
Service electronic brake system keeps coming up on the dash. When this happens you lose cruise control, ABS, and your abs and traction light come on. This goes on and off constantly and dings every time it happens. This is a huge problem that Chrysler is aware of but will not do anything about. I had mine replaced once and 23 months later I have the same 13000 dollar issue.
Antilock braking system and electronic brake system warning lights flash on and off frequently while driving.
Intermittent ABS and traction control lights. Service lights come on and go off when braking or driving over bumps. Code C0020 - ABS Pump Motor Control General Electric Failure. Issue is so random I haven’t taken the truck to a service center.
An ABS system that was designed to save other people. And your life is now not operating functionably. And putting me and other people in danger. Or else why would they have made it way back in the day? Receiving vehicle message of serve ABS braking system. Code C0020-01. Dodge knows of the issue and needs to recall and repair.
Anti-loc braking system, and electronic braking system issues. Modules needed. Ram has back-ordered them for months. There appears to be a class action suit starting, What is NHTSA doing?
The ABS system has went out again. This is the second time owning this truck and back orders are 9 months out. First time wears around 30k miles. It’s a common problem with this year truck. From new to old.
Truck def system error derates vehicle speed to 5mph in 85 miles. This is unacceptable as no dealerships are open on weekends or in the middle of nowhere. This EPA rule will get folks killed as folks driving 5mph on freeway towing a big trailer will get run into real quick. Vehicle should NOT cause you to slow to 5mph if a pollution control device has issues. Please investigate.
HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT FAILURE. While driving I encountered an emergency braking situation (deer in roadway) I applied the brakes and they did not go into an ABS slide/braking condition and upon applying the brakes, causing the brakes to lock up and the vehicle begin to change its direction, the dash dinged and illuminated the ABS and Traction Control light. After this incident the lights continued to flash on and off even while parked, and the brakes not applied. I was able to get to my home, I attached my scanner and followed the procedures set for diagnosis coming to the conclusion that the hydraulic control unit had failed. I was able to get it into the dealer on the 14th of September and they had concurred with me that the Hydraulic Control Unit had failed. There were no lights on prior to this incident to make me or any other driver aware that there was an issue with the ABS system. Chrysler has knowledge of this for there is a TSB (S2005000004) as well as a redesign of the part, 68143491AA to 68143491AB. Per the dealer the part is on national backorder until February of 2024. The vehicle is available for your inspection for I will not take it on the road with these faults risking mine or the safety of my family or others especially with winter right around the corner.
In October of 2021, my truck indicated an issue with the ABS System and the EBS System. Those two alarms would frequently go off randomly while driving, and also the cruise control would not operate during this state of alarm. It was fixed immediately by a RAM dealership; they replaced the HCU module (hydraulic control unit): part #68143491AA. Almost two years later, in September of 2023, the exact same thing happened and I took it back to the very same dealer; they confirmed the same issue and it would need a replacement HCU again, however I was informed those parts were all removed from inventory as they are being redesigned (fixed) to prevent more issues in the future, as this is a "known" problem. I am awaiting a call from them when the new "fixed" part will be available (it could be months). In the meantime I am driving the vehicle knowing that the ABS braking can go out at any time, thus driving more carefully than normal. It is also worth noting that about one month after the second occurrence of this problem, while driving with a faulty HCU, my brake line on the front driver side wheel (just about one foot from the HCU module) burst while driving and I lost almost all braking in a matter of 5 minutes. That brake line was repaired at my expense. It seems to me that could be related to the HCU issue possibly causing higher than normal pressures in the line. In my opinion, this situation is dangerous and should be raised to the level of a RECALL on that HCU part. Also, RAM should be paying for any such brake issue repairs that their truck owners have had to pay for while operating with this defective part.
My 2018 RAM ABS warning indicator light goes on and off continually. It started last year but now it's on constantly. I did some research, and this seems to be a very common issue with this model of RAM truck. Unfortunately, the dealership has informed me there is no recall on the item and cost to repair are over $1,000. So I'm driving with no ABS brakes most of the time. With the light and warning noise constantly going on and off is very distracting while driving. Not a very safe problem to have while driving.
ABS module or HCU bad. Anti lock brakes not working. Cruise control not working. 4WD not working. Caused issue driving with a load when ABS did not engage and almost rear ended another vehicle.
Electronic Braking System and Anti-Lock Braking System has intermittent failure and any speed. The safety of those in the vehicle are at risk by unsafe braking and unpredictable braking. Warning signals turn on and off while driving. Started to appear around 44,000 miles.
ABS system failure causing spinout and skidding. System failure spurratic.
While driving on a smooth paved road the service anti-lock brake system and service electronic brake system lights started flashing on and off. This continued for several minutes and then randomly stopped. On my return trip home after about 10 minutes of driving on the same smooth paved road the service antilock brake system and service electronic brake system lights started flashing on and off again. Once again the service lights randomly stopped on their own while continuing driving.
The “Service Anti-Lock Braking System” warning turn on and off intermittently and the yellow “ABS” and “traction control off” icon turn on and off intermittently about every 4-5 seconds. In the morning after first start, the warning lights and message proceed after the first brake pedal application. I have 78,500 miles on the truck.
Brake module malfunction kicks out cruise control and dings constantly. Seems to be a recall for other years but this year is missing?
ABS light coming on and going off like all ram 2018
This vehicle has had a recall on ABS module and HCU for ABS. The replacement is now repeating the same issues as the original within a few miles. (Service ABS, traction control, and various other lights flash intermittently, causing the cruise control to turn off suddenly, which represents a huge danger.) Not to mention the constant bells and whistles being distracting.
ABS AND SKID CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS CONSTANTLY COMING ON AND OFF FOR NO REASON. HAD CHECKED OUT AND RECOMMENDED A REPLACEMENT MODELER, AT MY COST. TRUCK DOES NOT EVEN HAVE 30,000 MILES YET. IT NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS.
See attached document for complaint
I had my HCU pump fail 3 times previously(68143491AB, HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT Anti-Lock Brake System), now the dealer is telling me that I need to buy another module (68347098AB Module, Anti-Lock Brake system Electronic Stability Controller) in addition to the failed part for them to repair my vehicle (Tech told me its on a service bulletin, although my unit is not bad). The dealer told me if I got the parts they could repair my vehicle, so I bought the HCU. Shortly after they said a technical bulletin is telling them that they need to replace an additional module when they replace the HCU, which is not available until February 2024. If they diagnose my truck (which they did), and provide me with a receipt I would have to pay the diagnostic fee of $160, and they would not be able to release my truck until the repair was made. I can not have my truck at a dealership for 5 months waiting for a part to be available. Is there anything that can be done about this? I do trade shows and need a truck to carry my products.
My abs brake light goes on and off cruise control just stops in the middle of the highway. I was almost hit by an eight wheeler while commuting because of it. I loose traction driving on wet roads. I have taken it to the dealership more than twice to fix the problem. So solution in sight.
Anti Lock Brake code appearing while driving. Have had the Anti lock brake module replaced once before. This is a common issue in 2018 models and Ram refuses to address.
REPEATED SERVICE BRAKING SYSTEM WARNINGS. KNOW ISSUE FOR ABS with these vehicles. Code C0020- ABS pump motor controler.
Truck is showing service message "Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service Anti-Lock Brake System". Service message comes and goes constantly, chiming and making cruise control unusable. Several times I have almost had a collision on the interstate because the vehicle will drop out of cruise control expectantly. I have researched the issue and the required replacement parts are on national back order until Jan/Feb of 2024. So not only do I have to listen to the dang chiming noise, I don't have fully functioning ABS or Traction Control. This is a serious issue that RAM needs to deal with. I know an investigation is underway already: Preliminary Evaluation PE22-012. Please add my complaint to the growing list of RAM owners facing this serious issue.
ABS HCU/and pump failure. Truck dies. no Brakes
Recently the ABS Warning light and Service Electronic Braking System light have been coming on intermittently. When it happens an audible alarm goes off and several functions shut down, like the cruise control. The problem has no rhyme or reason and some days it happens for several hours and some days it never happens. I am concerned that the ABS is not working properly but also concerned that I might be using cruise control on the highway and it shuts down creating a hazard and possibly accident. I have not contacted the dealer but see that it is a common problem with my vehicle on online forums and that there are class action suits for the issue. This should be handled by the manufacturer with a recall before someone gets killed. Currently the dealers are making a fortune making repairs that often recur in a short period.
