I purchased the subject vehicle in NEW condition in September 2019. On April 2021 the vehicle ABS lights came on and off. The mileage of the vehicle at that time was 16,538. I took the vehicle in to get serviced by ANCIRA Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram dealership and the HCU PUMP was replaced. I have the service invoice that has all this information. On August 20, 2023, the same lights came on. The vehicle now has 48,000 miles on it. As a part time mechanic, I conducted a diagnostic test and found that the error code is the same as the initial incident, which is Code C0020-01-ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRIC FAILURE. The vehicle no longer as a warranty and since there are no available parts available for repair, I have no choice but to drive this truck putting myself and my family in danger. The vehicle is available for inspection if needed.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle started to shake abnormally. The contact stated that the ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a tire shop and had the tires rotated and the vehicle aligned. The vehicle as repaired, however the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated again. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V140000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Electronic Stability Control). The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Check engine lights came on flashing “service abs” and “ break system malfunction “. Took to dealer and had to have HCU ( hydraulic control unit) for ABS system replaced.. it was a dangerous situation as the trailer brakes were rendered useless, as was the cruise control. The breaks still worked but not the ABS part, so could possibly lock up and loose control during an emergency event.
Service electronic braking system light comes on intermittently every 1-5 minutes while driving. Also, a light indicating issues with the traction control system comes on. ABS system seems to be failing or indicating failure almost constantly. Cruise control is disabled during these times. I've read this is a common problem with these vehicles. There really needs to be a recall issued for this. Is my truck safe to drive if the braking system functionality is in question? Not really.
The ABS module and/or HCU on my truck is bad causing me to lose ABS functionality. The ABS light comes on and a tone alerts me to the problem. This normally happens randomly, and the problem comes and goes. The cost to repair looks to be around $1600 from the dealer. With this being such a safety issue, it seems reasonable for a recall to be put into place to address the issue. The issue is further complicated because there is a new and improved version of these parts, but the new parts have been on backorder.
About a month ago the ABS and Traction Control warning dash lights started coming on intermittently with warning tone. They go on/off randomly or not at all some days. I had the codes pulled and there was only one, C0020-1 General ABS System Failure. This has not resulted in any dangerous vehicle incidents as of yet, but I must have my vehicle to tow/work and the expensive replacement parts are on indefinite back order. I understand this is a very common problem for 2017-2018 Ram HD trucks and Ram is doing very little to prioritize a solution.
FOR THE PAST MONTH A WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND DINGS CONTINUALLY INDICATING AN ABS FAILURE AND NEED FOR ELECTRICAL BRAKE SYSTEM SYSTEM REPAIR. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER THAT WAS RUDE TO SAY THE LEAST AND INDICATED THEY KNOW THIS ISSUE WHICH IS VERY COMMON AND REQUIRES PARTS (ABS CONTROL UNIT HCU-HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT) THAT ARE ON BACKORDER AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL NEXT YEAR (POSSIBLY FEBRUARY OR MARCH). THEY STATED IN CASE OF EMERGENCY BRAKING AND PARTICULARLY ON WET PAVEMENT OR GRAVEL THE BRAKES WOULD FAIL AND THE TRUCK SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. I SEARCHED THE WEB AND CLEARLY THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM OF A PART/SYSTEM DEFECT. I AM LEFT IN A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS SITUATION WTH NO RECOURSE AND NO VEHICL TO DRIVE. I APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME AND OTHER RAM OWNERS.
Hydrolic control unit and ABS module failure. Diagnosed by independent mechanic and confirmed common issue by the dealer. Cannot get the parts to fix.
ABS failed, brakes locked up causing truck to skid out of control
My ABS and traction control light intermittently blinks on and off. I took my vehicle to the dealership and was told this is a known issue. That I need a new ABS power module and controller. The parts are very expensive and on back order. I was informed to continue driving the vehicle until the parts are available.
ABS module failure, brakes can potentially lock up causing you to slide. Preoblem has been verified , but has not need inspected by manufacturer (on my vehicle). And there were no symptoms, light came on as soon as it failed
My truck has the same issue as many thousands of other RAM owners. The forums are full of people with the same issue. It clearly is a faulty part/design or similar. My "check ABS/ Traction Control- Brake light" turns on and off intermediately all the time. It is an issue many have had and had fixed for between $800-1,000.00. For your reference here are some links to forums showing this issue in fact a OEM problem. Apparently there are class action law suits going on in Texas and California over this matter. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] There are many more. RAM should have to furnish a recall and fix this issue at no cost. Parts are not available until February of 2024. This is a safety concern!! This issue will not allow the use of cruise control or remote start. Winter is coming and im not sure the ABS works as long as the light is on. RAM needs to supply parts faster than Feb 2024 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Issue with ABS and HCU. Known issue with Ram trucks but no recall for 2018. "Service Electronic Brake System" warning comes on and off constantly.
ABS intermittently turns off, brought to dealer and advised that ABS control unit and pump need replaced. Also went to service garage with same diagnosis. Dealer advised that the part in question, the ABS hydraulic control unit (HCU) was not available and would be redesigned maybe next year 2024. This problem has persisted since August 2023. It is dangerous to have the brakes compromised and the uncertainty of stopping prowess. The internet is full of identical issues concerning the 2017-2018 Heavy Duty Rams being afflicted with this issue. Chrysler should be accountable.
Abs module has been on recall for a while with no parts available to fix issue. I would like to know what are the options available?
ABS and Traction Control warning lights on dash, go off and come back on. Truck was in cruise control with exhaust brake on and tow/haul mode engaged. ABS/Traction control light flashed on, truck dropped out of cruise control, exhaust brake came on car following the truck almost collided with my rear bumper. This is a dangerous situation, it is also affecting the cruise control. The dash board ABS and Traction control light cycle on and off, however this last few days they have been on more than they are off. This needs to be fixed at no charge by RAM trucks.
"Service Electronic Braking System", & "Service Anti-Lock Braking System" indicators flash & ding constantly. Started on 8/15/23. Vehicle can be available for inspection. It has not been inspected by a licensed mechanic yet. ABS, & Traction Control lights on the cluster are lit up.
ABS light and Brake controller light comes on and off constantly.
Abs light comes on when under hard braking or traction control is used for slippery conditions
Abs and traction control lights come on and off cruise stops working
The ABS/Traction Control module has a known by manufacturer malfunction where the system fails, and you can be left without proper abs and traction control. This system can malfunction causing something as simply as the inability to activate cruise control to the inability to have proper abs braking. I've taken the truck to an independent shop as well as the delarship and both times they say there is a backorder on the part that can take over a year to replace and the charge for a safety feature that is a known malfunction is over $500. Also to lead on with the frustration of this, they offer just to use your standard brakes without braking hard (as if one can control unknown incidents requiring harder braking) as well as using the exhaust brake system. This is a safety concern that needs to be addressed and fixed, and not told to wait over a years time to possibly get the control module.
Originally I started feeling like my brakes weren't stopping as well as they had been. The pedal seemed to feel soft and have further travel than normal. I recently had my brakes inspected by a certified mechanic, so I was confident it wasn't the actual brake pads, rotors, or calipers. After a day of this I started getting intermittent ABS system and traction control lights. About a day or two later the lights became more frequent until they eventually stayed on. During that time I was out of town while pulling my fifth wheel camper, so I wasn't in a good position to get the truck to a mechanic. Needless to say I felt my situation was becoming unsafe. Once I returned home I got the truck in to my mechanic and his troubleshooting led to a faulty ABS module and Hydraulic Control Unit. This was a very expensive repair. Once I was told what the diagnosis was I started to research this issue online. This is when I discovered that others were having this same issue and that the NHTSA had already opened up an investigation into this.
The "Check Antilock Brake" message appears on the dashboard. The vehicle has been inspected by a mechanic who confirmed that it is either the supplementary brake fluid pump, or the brake pump control unit. Because of the intermittent nature of the problem, the manufacturer requires replacement of both expensive parts, as they do not know the exact problem. Because of the issue, the following vehicle features do not function: * anti-lock brake system * electronic stability control / traction control * cruise control * the holding of the rear brake on a hill until the operator accelerates (important in a standard transmission truck used for towing)
The ABS module is defective on my truck which controls the antilock brakes, Anti slip function, and the cruise control. Dealer ship has diagnosed problem and ordered parts but the parts have been on back order for quite sometime with no ETA from RAM when parts will be available. My dealer ship says they currently are wating on 25 parts for different vehicles with same problem.
The ABS and traction control has a fault that’s turns off the abs system. It’s been troubleshot to the HCU pump. There are several ram trucks with this issue. Fault code is. C0020-01 ABS pump motor control
A warning light appears and anti-lock brakes do not function. this is the second time for this same defect. The first time was as approximatley 40000 miles and now jusd past 80000 miles. The parts for repair are unavailable thru dealer and they said it probably be December before they got parts in. I now have no anit-lock brakes and no cruise control. It seems the cruise control circuit is with the anti-lock brakes circuit. This seems to me to be a real safety issure with all of these Ram 2500 trucks. The dealer knows all about it but cannot help.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the cruise control unintendedly deactivated, and the ABS and stability control warning lights remained illuminated. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Recall/Campaign: Ram/Stellantis C4B Problem: “Dealer says remedy/parts are not available / cannot schedule recall repair.” This has been a problem since 2023. Have not had ABS for years or 4x4 and i live in a snow environment. My breaks and rotors are trash from not having ABS.
Service abs system, abs light and traction control light flash on and off intermittently indicating possible faulty HCU and ABS Module installed from factory causing the abs system to fail along with the traction control system and loss of cruise control . My safety and others are put in danger with the brake system not being allowed to work properly
My truck is getting a periodic message to service the ABS system as well as the Electronic Braking System. After doing some research, I see that RAM is the defendant of a class action lawsuit over this issue and the NHTSA is doing an investigation into several people having these issues. I took my truck to a dealership -- they said my truck needs an ABS control module and brake control module. However, the parts are not available and Ram does not know whey they will be available. The dealership told me it could be six months or more before parts are available but my truck "should" be safe to drive. I own this heavy duty truck because I tow a travel trailer. I cannot tow anything with a vehicle that has a failing braking system.
The “service electronic braking system” light is on, also the “service antilock brake system” light is on as well. This causes the ABS, traction control, or cruise control to not work The truck has 49,000 miles
ABS and stability control failure. First intermittent then continuous. Dealership said the problem is the HCU solely from my description. Known problem. They also said replacement parts not available to order until at least February 2024. I believe a recall is warranted.
Hello, I have a 2018 Ram 2500 with 35,000 miles, there is a well-known issue regarding the anti-Lock Braking Systems which effects 2017 and 2018 models which, Stellantis -RAM refuses to address. My truck suffers from this issue, the ABS and traction control warning lights constantly flicker on and off and there is an audible ding when this occurs. My local dealer diagnosed the problem, and the truck needs to have the HCU and ABS modules replaced. The cost to perform this work is nearly $2,000 since the parts are expensive and there is a fair amount of programming which needs to occur. Besides the cost the main issue is that the parts are not even available. I have been waiting on the parts since November 2023, my dealer says the next "production" date for the part is late June. I received this same type of response 2 times already, first for November, then February now June. Last I checked there are over 400 requests for these parts before me. At this point I drive an unsafe vehicle with no ABS or traction control, and I can’t even get it repaired . I also can’t use the truck for its intended purpose of towing. I’m looking for some assistance in this matter. There is also an active Class action lawsuit against Stellantis to provide relief for owners of these trucks, myself being one. The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the message "Repair ABS" and "Repair Electronic Braking System" were displayed. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.
Service ABS system and traction control light continually flashes on and off. Does not allow me to use cruise control and it also turns off my ABS which is unsafe.
ABS traction control, light code c0034
Antilock Brake and Traction control warning lights alert with dashboard message intermittently notifying to "service electronic brake system" and "service antilock brakes". Warnings come and go and may stay off for several days. When in warning mode, cruise control is de-activated; either shutting off, if set, or not allowing use. Dealer repaired by replacing pump control module (part#68143491AB) at a total cost of $683.19 for parts and labor. Odometer mileage at time of event was approximately 76,600 miles. Dealer indicated that this was a very common problem. Truck should be recalled and repaired at manufacturer's expense.
ABS / traction control intermittent failures.
The component or system that is failing or malfunction is the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) and ABS module. The malfunction is turning off my ABS and TCS system, making the vehicle unsafe to drive. Also the ABS and TCS dash lights are constantly dinging and going off and on distracting me while I'm driving. This issue is well know with the dealer. Here is a TBS from 2020: RAM TSB S2005000004 The vehicle has been inspected and and the ABS module was already replaced, but didn't fix the issue. This has been happening since I bought the truck.
This is a common problem I’ve replaced the abs pump once already on this truck and it’s failed again!!
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 2-3 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the ABS warning light illuminated, and the vehicle shuddered and came to a stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module and the hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) needed to be replaced; however, parts were not available. The dealer informed the contact that the manufacturer was not distributing the ABS module part because they were defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The ABS and traction control light is flashing on and off, this truck has 57000 miles on it and is garage kept. I looked it up and many of these trucks are having the same problem. The dealer wants $200 just to verify the problem. It is unreasonable that the ABS system fails so quickly in these trucks. The ABS/traction control lights will also come on and stay on for a while and then go off.
The abs module and abs pump has failed for a second time. Anti lock brakes do not work or traction control with lights on in dash The message appeared 2 years ago. Bought the parts and dealer fixed it. Now the message is coming up again.
Service ABS and Traction control warning lights on. Computer says ABS circulation pump is bad. Part is unavailable. There should be a recall, this is a known and documented safety issue. Part is discontinued, how is it possible to disregard this issue? What are we supposed to do........drive a vehicle that wont stop as it should?
Defective Brake Control Module and Hydraulic Control Unit intermittently cause ABS and Traction Control warning lights and error messages to repair ABS and Electronic Brake System. This causes cruise control to drop and no ABS braking. This first happened 2 years ago and was dealer repaired and now it's happening again. This is obviously caused due to defective parts.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle skidded. The ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,000.
Abs lights are coming on and off I took to a shop where they told me it's known problem and parts are on backorder
ABS system doesnt work. no update on recall c4b. have had this issue since 2023
Service electronic braking system message, ABS light and traction control light are on. Code:C0020-0. ABS HPU problem. This is an obvious issue with these year make and model of trucks.
ABS light/service electronic brake system. Dealer advised that ABS actuator and hydraulic controller unit needs to be replaced. Items are on back order and can not be ordered until released by Chrysler in February 2024. In the meantime no one can tell me if it is safe to drive my truck or not.
