Going down a hill and had to do a hard brake for a animal and brakes locked up instead of gradually stopped causing me to slide Truck presenting a c0020 code
First, I was not involved in an incident or accident with my vehicle. My concern is for my safety in the future while driving this vehicle. My RAM 2500 Power Wagon has a safety recall C4B/NHTSA 24V-896 for the brake system but there are no parts available to fix it. I currently have an ABS caution light with a "Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service Automatic Braking System" that constantly flashes and dings at random. I took my vehicle in to my local dealership and they told me there are no parts available and they were unable to fix the ongoing problem. I asked if my vehicle was safe to drive and they told me they cannot legally tell me if it is safe or not. There is no way forward to fix my vehicle and I haven't received any information other than "we are waiting on parts". With this being a safety issue, I would expect a loaner vehicle of a similar make and model. I do not feel it is safe to continue to drive my truck with these warning lights associated with an active safety recall. I am looking for advice or some help with this issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced the failure. The VIN was invalid.
The ABS and and electric circuit lights came on, on the dash. Then a week later my Transmission started acting up. I had it into the shop and they are saying the 2 are related. They have given me the paperwork showing how the code that comes up is from the recall and the paperwork showing it can trigger the transmission control module. The manufacturer made the recall back in December of 2024. They have yet to come up with a fix. Now we have a none drivable truck that has to sit until they find a fix. I am still making payments on this vehicle and they have nothing to say. We are almost coming up on a year, where is the liability?
My 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 ABS Hydraulic Control Unit failed, almost a year after recall NHTSA 24V-896 (manufacturer recall C4B) was issued. This resulted in a loss of ABS capability. I reached out to the closest Dodge dealers and they informed me that a replacement component was not available. As this was a safety concern, and no resolution was available through Dodge, I was forced to complete the repair myself. Interestingly, I had no issue purchasing a Mopar OEM HCU. After replacing the unit, I'm no longer receiving ABS error codes and the truck is functioning normally. After submitting a reimbursement request to FCA for the repair via their website, my request was denied as I didn't use a certified repair facility. I informed them that I had tried but that they informed me that no repair components were available to complete the recall.
With the vehicle running, regardless of bein parked or in motion, if I turn the steering wheel either Left or Right, the steering wheel kicks back against the direction the wheel is being turned. Having to fight the steering wheel while driving makes it dangerous while driving at highway speeds around corners, curves, etc. Took it into the dealership and they did verified the issue, their report states " Scanned vehicle pulling no relatable DTC's"... "performed further inspection of steering column and steering components with no visual external concerns" The dealership believes it is an internal part within the steering gear box, referencing an "internal check valve" but would have to replace that part and test again with the total cost bein $3486.96 !!! and still may not fix the issue which is internal to the steering components.
The contact's son owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while her son was driving 20 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the vehicle started to shake abnormally. The check engine light turned on and then went off. The owner received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact called an unknown local dealer and was informed that parts for the recall repair were not yet available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a failed ABS module. The contact was informed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the parts were not available for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
•Side curtain airbag malfunction front driver's side. The truck has a warning light for the airbag and the computer diagnostics says it is a side airbag malfunction. The vehicle is well kept and has not been damaged. Mopar does not lost this malfunction and recall as included in my VIN •Cruise control malfunction The cruise control sporadically does not turn on when the button is pressed. The button may need to be pressed a dozen times before it activates and cruise control is available to be set for a given speed and then engaged. This has occurred since purchase brand new at the original dealership at less than 25 miles on odometer. Mopar does not list this malfunction/recall for my VIN. •Hydraulic Control Unit recall difficulties. The dealership has stated multiple times it has no replacement parts to do the recall repair covered under NHTSA Recall # 24V-896.
Experiencing persistent ABS and Anti skid lights flashing on dash board along with persistent dinging, which has become very annoying. Took the vehicle to my nearest Ram dealership and they ran a diagnostic on it and told me that it was a faulty ABS/HCU causing the problem, but that there were no parts available to repair it. They said they would call and schedule an appointment to have it repaired as soon as the parts become available. I don’t know if I can wait much longer, as the constant dinging is very upsetting to my wife, who normally drives the truck.

While operating my 2018 Ram 2500, the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) failed suddenly and completely, causing the loss of: Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Traction Control This failure occurred without warning, creating an immediate risk of accident. The dashboard illuminated warning lights indicating system failure. The most recent diagnostic, performed by Einspahr Auto in Brookings, SD confirmed that the HCU requires replacement. Previous incidents with the vehicle involved intermittent failures of the same systems, indicating a persistent and unresolved safety defect. The dealer has not indicated when a permanent fix will be available. Due to the ongoing safety risk and extended timeline for repair, I am requesting a manufacturer buyback at this time. Stellantis has not provided any acceptable fix which does not impose financial hardship while the vehicle remains unsafe. Impact / Safety Concern: -The vehicle cannot be safely driven. -Significant risk of injury or property damage due to failure of critical braking and stability systems. Requested Action: I request federal oversight and that Stellantis provide a permanent remedy, including: -Manufacturer Buyback – Repurchase of my current 2018 Ram 2500 at 120% of the current market value; or -Manufacturer Replacement – A comparable vehicle with no unremedied recalls, free of the defect, and without additional cost Legal Assertion: I am submitting this complaint in good faith under 49 U.S.C. §30166 and related federal safety defect statutes. Manufacturer Recall Number C4B; NHTSA Recall Number 24V-896 Recall Status Incomplete, remedy not yet available This problem is over 2 years old and still incomplete; why is there no time limit for them to fix; they are pumping out new sales and new problems but nobody is accountable. Still warning light every time driven and nobody can tell us when it will be fixed...
I am in Virginia and received a recall code C0020-01 for general abs fault. The truck continues to beep alerting me of this fact. I need replacement of the hcu. Which i have been told controls the breaking hydraulics. To me this seems to be of concern and could easily cause an accident and injury. This has been occurring since August of 2025 and I have been in contact with the dealership, Blackwell of Danville, VA, since then. On 11/1/25 I went into the dealership for other issues but this problem as well. They told me there is no part available for replacement and hasn't been for over a year. Well we are in a new year so how much longer do I need to wait for my truck to be safe?

My truck would not start. I found that I could shift the vehicle into gear without the key in the ignition or foot on the brake. It appeared that the truck would not start because it could not tell when it was in park. I had to be towed to a dealership, who discovered that the Shift Interlock Solenoid had failed. There is a previous recall for the same year, make and model of my truck, but did not include my VIN. I feel that this is the same issue for which the recall was issued and mine should be included. I incurred a $640 repair bill.
24v896-unit has been coding for months, dealership or chrysler have no fix in site. this is a safety hazard and I need my unit for daily driver and have been without for more than 3 months with no solution. I need them to replace this unit with a new unit or buy it back for the price of what it would cost me to get a new one. I need to have a truck to use if they are not going to repair it. I need this now.
Recently the radio and display system in the vehicle stopped working properly. It was basically ghosting all commands. It could not be controlled by knobs, touch screen or voice command. the dealer stated that the screen delaminated and was causing the issue. This is a safety concern because the radio was calling 911 randomly and I was unable to stop it, it was turn on and off features in the vehicle. It's very dangerous. there is a wide know problem for these delaminating screens and this should be recalled and fixed.
Recall 24V-896, cannot be repaired, no repair timeline in site, vehicle is coding and dealership has confirmed code. Driving cruise will turn off and braking system becomes difficult and unstable. Warning systems come one. Dealership attempted to repair but manufacture advised they were not allowed to do so because it would not be permanent. Dealership has advised to park unit and contact Chrysler for buyback. We have called Chrysler customer care daily for 3 weeks with no success and no end in sight. The will not provide daily driver solution, vehicle replacement or repair fix. This is part of our daily driver to and from work and to and from farm to carry trailer with cattle. It is unsafe without proper braking system functioning and dealership has confirmed this and advised us to not operate. Chrysler has also advised us to not operate since it has coded but has offered no options. Dealership confirmed code on or about 8/22/2025
Manufacture has not provided a fix in a timely manner for safety recall

Component or system that failed or malfunctioned The issue involves a safety recall‑related system on my Ram truck that remains open with no available remedy for over one year. The vehicle is now experiencing traction loss while pulling and during normal driving, along with multiple failure/warning lights activating on the dashboard. How my safety or the safety of others was put at risk While driving and when pulling/accelerating, the vehicle unexpectedly loses traction, which creates a risk of loss of control, especially during traffic, turns, or acceleration from a stop. The appearance of failure lights combined with traction loss presents a serious safety risk to myself, my passengers, and other motorists, increasing the likelihood of a crash. Whether the problem has been reproduced or confirmed The safety defect is confirmed by the open NHTSA recall associated with my VIN. The traction loss and failure lights have occurred during normal vehicle operation and continue to reappear. The issue has not been repaired due to the manufacturer stating that no recall remedy is currently available. Inspections by dealer, manufacturer, or others Authorized Ram/Dodge dealers have confirmed that the recall remains open with no repair solution available from the manufacturer. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by police or insurance representatives, but it remains available for inspection. Warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms Failure and warning indicator lights have appeared on the dashboard and remain present. These symptoms began while the recall was still unresolved and now occur in conjunction with traction loss during driving and pulling, indicating the defect may be actively affecting vehicle safety.
The ABS system continuously dings and the cruise control will not work and shuts itself off due to recalled defective part. Waiting for new recall part!!!!!!! Why was a recall issued with no part to fix??? Make them get their act together. This is dangerous and maddening to listen to constant bell ringing in the vehicle. Not to mention the possibility of an accident. This vehicle is my daily driver. I need the vehicle to be operational and safe.
This recall affects the brake hydraulic control unit ("HCU") on my RAM 2500. I already had this part replaced back in 2022, and it went bad again in the Summer of 2025. I'm trying to sell the truck, but the incessant error messages and bell ringing makes that impossible. Nobody is going to buy a truck in this condition. Ram has known about this for years, and the recall was issued 14 months ago. Still no fix? I had the truck to my dealer last week and they said they are unable to help me with a replacement part, because it is not available. So now I'm driving around with a broken ABS system and constant error messages and audible warnings from my dashboard. For such a big company, it shouldn't take this long to develop a remedy to this problem. Anything you can do to assist would be appreciated. Thanks.
Recall 24V-896 does not seem to being worked. Is there any update on if and when this recall will be fixed.
Truck dashboard is going crazy lighting up that their is issues with the brakes coming on and off, scared to even drive these truck because who knows when and if brakes will fail. This is a lawsuit just waiting to happen.

On the highway towing a horse and the transmission stopped working right. Couldn’t keep up to traffic only had one gear.
Antilock braking system and stability control. Can’t use cruise conteol
Truck was "repaired" under Recall V06. Drag link/track bar was welded in place, which was supposed to be a temporary fix until parts became available to replace the bad drag link. In Mar of this year, I had the ball joints replaced. Upon repair, my steering wheel was cocked to the left in order to drive straight. Brought the truck back to have that repaired. Service center told me that because the part had been welded, they would have to break the weld, center the steering wheel, and reweld the part. That took place but did not fix the problem. My truck still turns right when the steering wheel is level. I have since been caught between Ram Customer Care and the dealership with each telling me the other needs to "do something" and both referring me to the other for assistance. I have attached photos of the work done and a copy of the recall. The weld job done on my truck is horrible, if not unsafe. But, I have to drive my truck. I think Ram is taking advantage of the good faith the Administration has shown them by allowing them to decide whether to make the replacement of the part. It should be mandatory. Probably thousands of Ram trucks in a similar situation on America's roads. The welded adjustment sleeve makes a proper alignment of the steering wheel impossible. The alignment is designed to be adjusted. Finally, I noted that the dealership violated the "do not sell" of the recall. I bought the truck in March 2019, without the recall call work done - unbeknownst to me. They did not take the recall seriously.
Manufacturer not providing corrections for brake hydraulic control
The recall has been out for months and Ram still has no solution, yet parts are available if you purchase them. I paid for replacement for the same ABS issue 3 years ago before it became a recall and now the part has failed again.

In December 2024, I received recall notice C4B for my 2018 RAM 2500 truck. The notice concerned the brake hydraulic unit, which is susceptible to failure. At almost exactly the same time, I started to receive dashboard indicators to check the ABS, but it worked fine, I just assumed that the alert was related to the recall. The recall stated that parts were not available and that I would be contacted when there was a resolution. The notice did not indicate that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. Around [XXX], the brakes began making a grinding sound from both sides of the front wheels. I checked the pads, which seemed fine, and there was no scoring on either front rotor. Coincidentally, I got a flat on the left front tire the day after the grinding noise started. It was in the driveway and I was unable to put on the spare until July 12, 2025, the vehicle sat in the driveway with a flat tire until then. After swapping in the spare on the 12th, I planned to get the tire repaired at my local garage. I began pulling out of my driveway at a few miles per hour. I applied the brakes to maintain a slow speed, and the grinding worsened. As I reached the end of my 30 foot driveway and pulled into the street, I heard a clunk, which I also felt through the brake pedal. The pedal immediately went to the floor, and the vehicle rolled across the street before finally stopping. I was able to back into the driveway and park the vehicle without incident. I contacted my local RAM dealer, and they said there was nothing they could do. They gave me the number for Fiat Chrysler Customer Care. I called Fiat Chrysler Customer Care at 800-853-1403 and received case number[XXX]. They explained that a resolution was not yet available and advised me to call a dealer and ask for a "temporary fix". When I told them the dealer had already said they couldn’t do anything, and that the dealer told me to call them, they suggested that I try a different dealer.
