Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated intermittently, and a message was displayed stating that the cruise control was unavailable. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality however, the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V140000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Electronic Stability Control) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,000.
I've been dealing with the ABS light going on & off with alarm constantly chiming for almost 2 years now. The anti lock breaking is compromised as is my cruise control. I can no longer operate the vehicle safely and I've had to park my truck permanently, which has created many economic and logistical issues for me and my family. I work 60+ a week to support a 2 and 4 year old child. The abs modulator and hydraulic unit need to be replaced according to the dealership (Ferman Dodge, Holiday, Florida) and (2) other non-dealer mechanics (Hilton Automotive, Ocala and Tuffy Spring Hill) have stated the same when I sought a 2nd and 3rd opinion. I don't understand why there's not a recall? Please, advise to the steps the NHTSA is taking to resolve this ongoing issue. I'm still waiting on the part/ parts to become available and I've been waiting for over a year now. I've reached out to every possible avenue that I know of to source the parts, to include aftermarket non-Mopar parts, and I'm being told they are still on back order. I can not afford to sell my truck in it's current state, as its currently "unrepairable" and that has severely diminished its value. I should not have to absorb that loss because of Dodge's negligence. Dodge needs to be held accountable for this, I purchased a very expensive truck in search or reliability and safety and I have received neither of those things. Please advise, my family cant afford to have a $50,000 lawn ornament any longer. Thank you!!! -[XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
While driving the ABS warning light, and traction control light illuminated, along with a chime. The messages "Service Anti-Lock Braking System", and "Service Electronic Braking System" showed on the dashboard screen. These warnings would come and go very frequently while driving, each time with an audible chime. At times, this would happen every 4-5 seconds, making it very difficult to concentrate on the road. Sometimes the messages would be gone for 1-2 hours but would always return. When the warnings were present, the truck would have no ABS, traction control, or cruise control available. This made towing a trailer much more dangerous. My truck was out of warranty but only had around 33,000 miles at the time. The local Ram dealer replaced the ABS module, as well as the brake hydraulic control unit. The problem has not returned. I have since learned from the online community that this is a very common problem and think it's something the NHTSA should look at. Due to the frequency of which these failures are occurring, a lot of owners aren't able to get their vehicle fixed because of the increased demand on the parts required.
Service ABS System keeps coming on when I hit the brakes.
ABS service warning and Traction control light shows intrmittently and disapears Planning to take to dealer
Braking power was diminished. ABS and Traction Control lights illuminated on dashboard and did not go out.
The ABS Module has failed, only 20k miles on the truck. RAM advises they have 10 trucks locally waiting on the same part, and advise a national shortage as this part had a manufacturing problem. They will not provide a part # to replace it as they don't know what it will be. Cruise control will not work either due to the safety issue of the problem. I have a safety concern about the use of the vehicle now and Ram cannot fix or private garages can not get the part either.
Subject: Investigation Request: ABS Fault Code C0020 in 2018 Ram Trucks Dear NHTSA Team, I write to bring your attention to a critical safety issue affecting numerous 2018 Ram trucks. The problem revolves around the faulty ABS HCU, This fault leads to intermittent or complete loss of ABS functionality, posing significant risks to the safety of vehicle occupants and others on the road. The ABS system plays a crucial role in preventing wheel lock-up and maintaining steering control during braking. However, the faulty ABS unit compromises the effectiveness of the ABS system, particularly in emergency situations and adverse driving conditions. The inability to maintain stable braking performance raises the potential for accidents and reduces the overall safety of the affected vehicles. In light of these safety concerns, I kindly request the NHTSA to launch a thorough investigation into the ABS, HCU/Module in 2018 Ram trucks. The investigation should aim to identify the underlying cause of this issue, assess its prevalence, and evaluate the severity of its impact on vehicle safety.Furthermore, I urge the NHTSA to engage in collaboration with Ram Trucks, the vehicle manufacturer, to ensure that affected owners receive timely notifications about the issue. It is essential to establish a process for providing necessary repairs or replacements to affected vehicles at no cost to the owners. This proactive approach will help mitigate the safety risks associated with the ABS units. As an organization committed to ensuring road safety, the NHTSA plays a vital role in addressing automotive issues that pose potential risks to drivers and passengers. By investigating and resolving the faulty ABS units in 2018 Ram trucks, the NHTSA can uphold its mission of safeguarding the well-being of vehicle owners and promoting overall road safety. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I eagerly await your response, detailing the actions taken by the NHTSA to address this safety concern.
Faults for the ABS (anti-lock brake system) and EBS (electronic braking system) have been coming on intermittently for a couple months. Now the faults are permanently on indicating the ABS and EBS needs serviced. The fault code is c0020-01which indicates the known malfunction involving the anti lock brake system module and anti lock brake system control. While these faults are present the cruise control also doesn’t work. This is a well documented and known issue with certain model years Ram 2500 and 3500. My truck had approximately 57,000 miles when the faults began.
The abs and traction control light are flashing on and off SEVERAL times especially when on a rough road. It kicks my cruise off and sometimes stays on which locks the diff and disengages any ABS functions resulting in the loss of braking performance and capability.
ABS brake sensor and traction control sensor issues. Sensor continues to trip and then go away. I have no idea if the systems are actually working properly or not it may just be a wire, wire harness or the module. When is does trip it ony does so for a short peroid. I drove 20miles yesterday and it tripped and seem to reset it self 30+ times in that short drive. The constant bonging was distracting. Also this keeps the cruise control from working. This issues seems to come and go.
ABS light beeps, service antilock brake system light goes off, swirly lines light goes off.
Abs modular gone bad
abs light and traction control light would come on intermittently while driving then stayed on causing cruise control to not work. been happening for over a year
Hydraulic control unit. Been waiting on part for over a year. This unit controls abs, cruise control and traction control
As of 6/6/2023 The ABS module is indicating a fault and then the fault goes away repeating this randomly while driving. This is the second time this issues has occurred. Due to the high volume of ABS issues with this model, my dealer has indicated they can not get the ABS unit until Mid August of 2023 and can not get me into the service to confirm this is the issue until July 19, 2023.
ABS Hydraulic Control Unit C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control Has been in for repair once and diagnositc 2nd time. Awaiting parts. Anti-Lock Brake System Warning Light, Traction Control Warning Light, Service Electronic Brake System Message - Continuous Lit and Intermittent Chime
6 months ago, the ABS brakes and stability control warning lights started to randomly light up on the dashboard. Sometimes I would not see a repeat of this for a week or more. The warning lights started to appear more frequently, and now are on all the time. When on, the cruise control does not operate. I took it to a Ram dealer near me, and the service department confirmed it is a defective ABS pump, known as the HCU module. They then informed me that Chrysler has no inventory of this part! I asked how long to get one, and was told some people have been waiting for over a year! The part, # 68143491AB, appears to be readily available online from a multitude of vendors. My truck has only 34,000 miles on it, and no ABS, no Stability control, and no cruise control is a safety issue! Please HELP!
ABS/Electronic brake indicator light on continuous, no Dodge repair facility cannot seem to fix issue. This should be a recall item.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the ABS, Traction Control and Cruise Control warning lights remained illuminated. The contact stated that since the failure had occurred, the brakes failed to immediately respond while depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the brake pedal felt spongy. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 39,000.
My vehicle has intermittent ABS/Traction Control/Service Anti-Lock Brake warnings. Upon trip to the dealership they notified me that I had codes for active wheel speed sensor and a stored Anti-lock Brake Module fault. Upon repair of the Wheel Speed Sensor, I had a reoccurring fault of the same and all ABS/Traction Control/ Service Anti-Lock Brake warnings and the same wheel speed sensor fault. They informed me that they could not order the ABS Pump Module as it was on engineering hold because of an investigation by NHTSA. Please make these people recall the ABS systems on these vehicles as when I look for information it is happening to hundreds if not thousands of trucks. My truck has 125,000 miles on it and has been WELL kept, and Mopar/FCA will not even sell us the parts to make our vehicles safe again. Currently due to the fault I have no cruise control, no four wheel drive, no parking sensors, and NO ABS OR TRACTION CONTROL. Seriously dangerous. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle drove over a bump in the road, and the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the ACU, but the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,000.
I purchased the truck used from Kunes dealership in Sterling Illinois with about 80k miles. It shifted harder than I was use to in low gears, right off the bat. I was advised everything was good with it at the oil changes and inspections. In June 2023 I noticed it would not shift into reverse and without yanking in the shifter. It lunges once forward while in park in my driveway. At just over 100k miles the check engine light came on. Coded as needing a new transmission. Also in September 2023 while driving it a brake warning light flickered in and went off. Haven’t seen it again. I think there are problems with this truck. The shifting slow and hard in low gears seemed odd and I worried about proper acceleration to avoid a rear end collision. I understand very little about vehicles but this one has been doing dangerous things that makes me worry about the safety of it.
ABS and Stability unit has failed, vehicle has 26160 miles . Dealer and manufacturer know of defect and refuses to provide any fix. This is a serious safety problem, and vehicle is unable to be used .
I am getting intermittent errors in my ABS and traction control systems. Code C0020-01 stating ABS pump motor general electrical failure.
For the second time, my ABS hydraulic control unit has failed.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the ABS, traction control, and cruise control intermittently failed to operate with the warning lights illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the ABS module was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 66,520.
Multiple intermittent warnings for "Sevice Anti-Lock Brakes" and "Service Electronic Brake System". Code C0020-01 for General electrical failure/ABS Pump motor control failure. Warnings seem to occur randomly while driving. Sometimes dozens of times within just a few miles driving. When warnings are present, traction control and cruise control are not available. I am unsure that the anti-lock braking feature will work if needed. Vehicle had ~ 40,000 miles when issue began. Spoke with local dealership. They stated they are aware of the issue and that no parts are available to fix the problems. All attempts to find available replacement parts online has shown all parts to be discontinued or back-ordered with no estimated arrival time for new parts.
I recently have had continuing ABS SERVICE WARNINGS LIGHTS and bells on my dash while driving. I took it to my local garage and they confirmed that the ABS MODULE is defective and needs replaced! No parts available at this time and is . on BACK ORDER. THIS IS A LARGE SCALE PROBLEM. I am now very concerned with driving my truck. AND WILL COST $1000 to repair if and when they can get the parts??
anti lock brake system failure, has been inspected by dealer and at dealership now, unable to repair as parts are not available for replacement. The dealership will not even try to put thru extended warranty really be hush hush about this issue. The vehicle can be inspected anytime. There where no warnings signs just started one day with the messages and lights flashing. This should be a recall before total brake failure.
ABS pump fault C0020-01
Service electronic braking system on dash with ABS turned off. diesel shop informed me it is probably a failed ABS HCU. they said it is a common problem on these trucks
My ABS dash light and traction control light started coming on. Service Antilock Braking System and alternated to Service Electronic Brake System. It would constantly bing and display the ABS light and the Traction Control light
Vehicle's "Service Anti-Lock Brake System" light and warning tone is coming on intermittently. I researched this to a common problem with the Hydraulic Control Unit (failure), which is known by the dealer to be common problem among 2017-2018 Ram trucks. Problem with the original manufacturer of this unit, with no parts available for replacement at this time.
ABS and Traction Control light and alarms activated inside cab on dash. Vehicle taken to dealership and they stated the HCU (hydraulic control unit) needed to be replaced. At that time no parts were available and a time frame was not given because no one had the parts not even after market. After several months of driving vehicle with out ABS or Traction Control vehicle has been fixed.
ABS and Electronic braking system lights come on and off. No codes. Reading about it and there are thousands of cases across the US. Something has to be done. Definitely a safety issue.
C0020-01-ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the ABS and traction control became inoperable. There was an abnormal dinging sound detected. The ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact called the local dealer and was informed about diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I have 39,000 miles and my ABS and Traction control lights come on which lead me to do a scan of the vehicle. Come to find out that my ABD module is bad. Tipm needs to be replaced. I looked up if there is a recall and seems to be a lot of people having the same issues.
This is the second time I am having an issue with my abs on the 2018 ram 2500. At about 34-36k miles the abs light started coming on and off randomly. Brought it in and the abs pump was changed. Now at 58k miles it is acting up again and they want to charge $1,200 to replace it. I did research and found this is a common issue with this year model.
Abs and traction control indicator lamps have an intermittent flash and alarm that alert at random times. This is dangerous as this not only disables the cruise control but the traction control is then disabled as well as the abs system causing brakes to lock up. Mopar and ram refuse to fix the issue and it costs consumers $1200 for parts and labor that may or not fix the issue. This is reported in many forum pages as well with all having the same complaints and stuck with the repair or not due to unreasonable cost associated with a possible fix. This should be an immediate recall as it is a safety concern even more so than an airbag issue. I cannot fathom a government agency responsible for safety to not mandate this as a recall.
Consistent warning stating, "Service Anti-Lock Braking System" and "Service Traction Control System" from the vehicle. While this warning is indicated by dinging tones, text displaying in the vehicle information screen, and lights lit on the dashboard, the ABS, Traction Control, and Cruise Control Systems do not function. This is a severe safety risk as if this occurs while driving your cruise control immediately shuts off and if driving in slick conditions you no longer have anti-lock brakes, nor traction control. This is apparently a known issue of Fiat Chrysler on the 2017-2018 model year vehicles where the HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) needs to be replaced which will remedy this issue. The parts however seem to be in very short supply and not all vehicle mechanics can make the repairs as I am being told you need specific software to reset the system once the HCU has been replaced. This is estimated to cost between $1200-1800 to have repaired. I have reached out to Chrysler Cares and they advised me to take my vehicle to my local dealer for repair and advised there is no warranty, nor recall in place to cover these costs.
The ABS and Traction Control light intermittently displaying a fault. Cruise is not available when the fault occurs. The Ram forums have countless number of reports with regards to ABS issue with low mileage trucks. 2018 RAM 2500 truck only has 16.7k miles and I purchased it new. I contacted Dodge and the ABS module and HCU module are not available until August. The dealer wants to charge $200 to look into it. I verified the vehicle speed sensors, wiring and connectors have no physical damage. Yesterday we took the truck out for about 20 miles and the light stayed off the whole time. Today I took it out and within 1 mile the lights started flashing. Connected NT301 CAN OBDII & EOBD code reader and no codes are displayed. On line forums indicating dealer repairs are temporary and have cost $1200-$1500 for repair. This needs to be addressed by the manufacture. On wet roads and on snow and ice this would be an issue if emergency stop is attempted locking the brakes.
2018 Ram Display Brake Error Service Electronic Braking System and Service Antilock Braking System Error Code C0020-01
The ABS and Traction Control light comes on. The cruise control is disabled when this happens. Vehicle only has 17k miles but issue started at 16.7k miles. On dry pavement not an issue but on slippery roads and ice and snow this could be a possible cause of an accident. In May I tried to order the ABS control module and Hydraulic Control Unit and was told by the dealership it would not be available until August. I contacted the dealership and now they are telling me late September but more than likely will be later. I was told Dodge is doing an engineering review on these components and that will not be completed until February 2024. According to my research the high failure rate is cause for concern and no parts availability complicates the issue. Why has a recall not been issued by the manufacture. Obviously something is going on with these parts. Should the engineering review by Dodge result in component redesign, I would want to hold off until redesign parts can be obtained. The vehicle is derivable but with winters approach safety concerns should prompt the NHTSA to do something about this issue.
ABS system does not work. Issue with the ABS pump motor control. Dealer stated it’s a know issue. This is the second time in a year I have taken to the dealer. Parts not available till August I was told and 6 other people are in front of me to get it replaced. Issue also affects traction control.
My truck has 32850 miles on it. This is the third time my ABS and EBC lights have begun flashing. My HPU and brake control module must be replaced again. Ram needs to be sued.
Having issue with abs module, brake light and abs/traction control light keeps flashing/dinging every bump, and just regular driving.
The ABS, traction control, cruise control and 4x4 no longer function. It started intermittently and now is constant. The vehicle is available for inspection. After a hard stop the abs won’t engage and I lost traction of the truck. There are two warning lamps that are on at all times (abs and traction control). It has been ongoing for almost 1 year and 10,000 miles or so.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving an undisclosed speed, the contact had to firmly depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The ABS, traction control, and electronic service brake warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS sensor module needed to be replaced for the fifth time. The contact stated that the dealer had previously replaced the ABS sensor module four times; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,300.
