In july 2020 the service electronic braking system and service antilock braking system lights and messages started to randomly appear and go away on the dashboard at around 24,000 miles the dealer changed the abs module and controller under warranty on aug 07 2020. Now at 67000 miles on Feb 01 2023 the same messages are happening with code c0021-01 this will be the second brake control module that is failing that will have to be replaced on this vehicle another guy I work with has experienced the same failure on a 2016 ram 2500 around 30000 miles and we are told parts are on back order
ABS control module and Pump issues cause intermittent braking problems.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the Service Electronic Brake System was displayed, and the ABS, Traction Control and cruise control became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the Hydraulic Control Unit had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the parts were not available. The contact stated that the failure had made the vehicle extremely unsafe to operate while towing heavy loads. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,025.
C0020-01. Electronic Braking System and stability control system continually go in and out of alarm kicking the truck out of cruise control suddenly. This was repaired once under warranty by replacing the hydraulic control unit at 40,000 miles and it is now doing the same thing again at 90,000 miles. This is a significant safety issue as it prevents the use of cruise control and turns off the stability control system on the truck. The parts to repair the system are not available due to them being in “Engineering Review” until 2024. The only guidance from Ram was to continue driving the vehicle until parts become available.
The ABS light came on and went off intermittently, which also disabled the cruise control when the light was on. Eventually the light stayed on. Most recently the start button quit working properly. We have had it at the dealership twice with no results. We have talked to the dealership many times and been getting the run around. The latest was today and was told the parts are back ordered until 2024. They have not given us any paperwork because we do not have to pay. We also have and had the radio (main computer) replaced a couple of times and the screen still blinks randomly.
I have had an ongoing issue with the ABS & ESP warning and warning light coming on and off. I took it into the dealership and they told me I needed to replace the ABC controller & hydraulic control unit. I don't understand why this isn't a recall or covered by RAM. I am afraid the brakes are going to fail putting my life and others in peril. I was told the repair would cost me $1200 so I have had to park the vehicle.
ABS/TRACTION CONTROL intermittent alarms. Vehicle alarms on and off constantly. Dealership has said they have no fix except replace all ABS electronics for about $4000.00 and can not guaranty it will work. This constant alarm turns off the Cruise control.
Abs and traction control have intermittent failure resulting in instability and collision.
Abs hcu/ module malfunctions. Has been for 1.5 - 2 years now. Waiting on recall to be complete for a long time. Scared to drive truc long distances but still have to pay for it.
C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control Electrical Failure.
Brake ABS and traction control system is malfunctioning due to failed ABS Hydraulic Control Unit as diagnosed by Ram dealership. Malfunctioning includes illuminated warning lights for ABS and electronic braking system. Malfunction also effects use of cruise control system. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety is at risk due to unknown effects on use of ABS system. Problem has been diagnosed and confirmed by dealer. Warning lamps have been intermittently illuminated for several weeks.
8 month ago my abs and traction control light and warning bazzer came on. i immediately took vehicle to local ram dealership where i bought in it new. they done diagnostic test and told me it needed a new abs hydraulic control unit . i was told that no parts where availiable at this time and it could take 6 to 8 months to get parts. i am still waiting for parts to arive and it would cost about $1400 to fix. this truck only has 25.000 miles on it. also was told it would be ok to drive it but i am not so sure about that since the antilock brake system is not functioning.
The anti lock brake system has failed on my 2018 Ram 2500. This has been confirmed by the dealer as well as an independent shop. First case was hauling a trailer full of wood, a car pulled out in front of me, I slammed the brake and the anti skid failed, brakes locked up. The only reason I didn’t completely lose control is my trailer brakes worked and stopped the swerve. Since that day the ABS light has been intermittent and is becoming more consistent. Because the light is intermittent the other symptoms are intermittent to include cruise control and the most critical; traction control. This problem caused me to lose control on black ice in Hastings MI about a month ago and swerve into oncoming traffic. No accident resulted. This is a known problem on this truck and there is a technical service bulletin published as well as a class action law suit. Because of this myself, as well as other owners, are reluctant to pay thousands to fix it because we are awaiting action from your office to drive a recall. I recommend action to implement a recall before someone is killed due to this faulty system. ABS light is illuminated as well as Service Anti Lock Brake System Message. Systems lost are anti lock brakes, traction control, cruise control.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the ABS and the traction control warning lights were intermittently illuminated. While driving at an undisclosed speed and hauling a load in the snow, the traction control unintendedly engaged, causing the brakes to lock up, and the driveline power to be diverted erroneously, and the vehicle suddenly stopped and became unmovable. The vehicle was towed back to the residence. Upon inspection, the contact noticed that the driveshaft, the 4WD actuator, and other unknown parts had failed. The contact personally replaced some of the parts, but the vehicle remained undrivable. The vehicle was not repaired. Several dealers were contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
ABS/ESC light illuminated on dashboard to service. Truck at 46k miles with pristine service condition. Truck taken within 2 days to Firestone Automotive and code of C0020-01, ABS Pump Motor Controller General Electrical Failure received. Unable to order parts from dealer, national backorder, believed to be Anti-lock Brake System module and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Service department unable to fix, told to drive it or wait until new HCUs are in stock. Unclear if risk to others while driving truck with faulty ABS module and HCU.
ABS / Service Electronic Braking System lights constantly dinging on and off while driving my truck. Cannot get parts for repair.
My antilock braking system is defective and is not working. I understand that this is a common problem with my vehicle. It is a safety related issue and should be recalled. The code reader indicates C002001. Ram TSB S2005000004.
This is a known problem with the ABS control module system
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). However, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and veering to the left or the right, the ABS, ESC, and Traction Control warning lights illuminated. In addition, whenever the warning light was illuminated and blinked, the vehicle failed to throttle, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The failure continued the rest of the drive. The contact stated that the failure did not occur when the warning lights were not blinking. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while coming to a stop and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle simulated as if the ABS was activated, and the brake pedal kicked back with force. The ABS, ESC, and Traction Control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
ABS pump motor control general electric failure found by dealer code C0020-01 per dealer needs hydraulic control unit. Warning comes on ABS unit need service. Safety concern braking system could fail. Mileage at time of dealer diagnostic 28572 keeps reoccurring current mileage 29791
C0020-16 code abs modual voltage below threshold. No cruse no ABS and no trailor brakes
The abs and traction control lights come on and go off intermittently. I took the truck to the dealer they said it need a new hcu which costs 500$ and 1000$ for labor the truck has 27000 miles on it and is out os warranty. The part need is on back order. I feel this is a defect and there should be a recall. Thanks for any help you can give. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
There seems to be a huge ongoing problem with ABS pumps and control modules for this model vehicle. I can find pages and pages of issues online for the same truck. The 'service brakes' warning comes on and off intermittently and I managed to replicate the fault after several months long enough to get it diagnosed. I am told the following parts are the issue: 68347098 - AB MODULE AN 08035030 68143491- AB CONTROL A 08035030 I got the truck diagnosed in January but was initially told Mid March for the parts and now am being told August - which would mean no functioning ABS on my vehicle for 8 months! And no guarantee the delivery date won't creep again. This is unacceptable for a safety critical component and clearly shows a fundamental flaw with the parts as they can't seem to make them faster than they are failing. I can find many reports of these happening from as early as 14,000 miles and with the replacement parts also failing.
I have made a previous report about this vehicle. New things are happening now. My mirrors are tilting and changing while driving. The backup camera is still coming on in while driving down the highway. I can't keep the heated wheel turned off. It gets so hot, its hard to hold the steering wheel. I have to pull off the road and turn the truck off. I cannot use my Bluetooth while driving because it starts calling random people, then it starts reading all my text messages. Its against the law to hold your phone while driving in NC. The doors lock and unlock while driving. I bought this truck a little over a year ago and this ghost in my truck is driving me crazy. It's unsafe while driving, with the mirrors tilting. I change the settings and the ghost changes it all... please help.
The ABS module has to be replaced!
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while starting the vehicle the ABS warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the ABS, Traction Control System, and cruise control functions became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the ABS pump and module needed to be replaced; however, the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,323.
The vehicle experiences intermittent fault displays for "electronic brake service" and "ABS Service". This causes the vehicle to suddenly come out of cruise control and slow dramatically. This causes the vehicles ABS safety function to be inoperative reducing the overall braking capability and increasing the safe stopping distance This causes traction and stability controls to be disabled further degrading the built in safety features This was diagnosed several months ago by the dealership as an ABS hydraulic pump problem with no parts availability. The lack of parts has been an issue for months and has rendered my vehicle inoperative. The dealer said this was a common problem and that they had multiple Ram trucks with the same problem. I also checked online and found multiple reports of the same issue across the brand and across the country. This is a significant and costly repair >$800 for a part which is clearly underdesigned for the applicaiton with poor or little reliability.
THE SERVICE ELECTRONICS BRAKE SYSTEM AND TRACKION CONTROLL ERRORS POP ON AND OFF. SOMETIME THEY STAY ON FOR AWHILE. SAFETY CONCERNED I HAVE NO ABS DURRING THESE TIMES THE ERROR IS ON.
I have a 2018 Ram 2500 Diesel and throughout the past 24 months I have been receiving intermittent ABS and Traction Control lights while driving. Recently (3 days ago), the lights have come back, are staying on, and the screen displayed the words "Perform Service". I attached my diagnostic tool and the Code captured is: C0020 Status: MIL/Confirmed - ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electric Failure.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the ABS warning light illuminated. Additionally, on several occasions while depressing the brake pedal, the ABS system failed to activate as needed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the ABS Hydraulic system and ABS sensor were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact referenced NHTSA Action Number: PE22012. The failure mileage was 45,000. The VIN was not available.
Reoccurring Electronic Brake System Failure message along with ABS and Stability Control faults, dealer unable to fix due to supply issues. Ram is supposedly waiting on a redesign, but until then I have a safety compromised vehicle where abs and traction control don't work.
warning ding followed by dash informing me that traction control and electronic braking has problem. Local dealer has confirmed problem in Feb. 2023. Dealer states replacement part not yet available and no estimate as to when part will be available.
The ABS Hydraulic Pump seems to have failed and perhaps took out the ABS control module. Nothing catastrophic happened on road. Simply lost ABS, Traction Control, and Cruise control….and soon $1,500 The hydraulic pump was listed in the Ram Dealer parts system as “Under Engineering Review” for at least a couple months and i can’t find out what that was about, the resolution, etc…. Wanted to log here in case it becomes a regular occurrence on these vehicles.
Intermittent Electronic Brake System and ABS Failure messages. Been dealing with this issue for over a year now. Dealership told me I had to wait almost a year before there would be a fix and that’s if I’m lucky. The ABS pump motor and the software are both faulty and Ram is aware of how to fix it, and haven’t. There needs to be a recall for issue, ASAP.
service anti-lock brake system and service electronic braking system lights flashing on and off while driving. While these lights are flashing the traction control is disabled. One instance I was driving down a hill and the service lights began to flash. As I was applying the brakes, the brake pedal locked up. This instance did not result in a crash. I have brought my 2018 ram 2500 to a local dealership that said my ABS hydraulic power unit needed to be replaced but they cannot replace it as there are five similar vehicles on the lot that are currently waiting on the same part. I brought my vehicle to a local diesel shop that also informed me the same thing.
ABS and Traction control warning lights and chime are constantly on-off, on- off. Took vehicle to dealer, diagnosed as brake module. The module was Replaced. The Same condition persists within 20 miles of repair. On return visit to dealer, brakes were diagnosed as brake pump failure. Dealer says the pump is back-ordered for several months latest ETA Aug 2023 for "engineering review." The dealer says the Anti-Lock system "should" default to standard style braking without any anti-skid or anti-spin. The truck seems to drive normally except under very heavy braking where the brakes seem to over-engage without additional pedal pressure. I have seen multiple claims for this same failure on the same model truck. The dealer did not specifically state the vehicle is unsafe. However, the dealer cannot issue a NH State safety inspection for the vehicle while the ABS light is on. This renders the vehicle unusable until the parts are released and available.
I am filing a complaint because my 2018 Ram 2500 has been in the shop waiting for the ABS hydraulic unit since January. I don't understand why there are so many people in need of this part, I am a cattle rancher and I need my truck to haul my cattle to livestock shows. I was told by my service repairman that it would be April then they called back and said August. This is totally unacceptable!!
The ABS system failed on my truck while under warranty (around 12,000 miles). I took it to my closest Ram dealer and they “fixed” it by replacing the hydraulic pump associated with the ABS. Everything was fine until about 3 months ago when it failed again. I took it to my local dealer about it and they told me the same part had failed and they would fix it under hood will since it had been with in 3 years. However, after waiting 3 months for a back ordered part to come in, turns out the ABS module failed and it should have been replaced the first time, but since it was not, I am now in the hook for it. Now I am stuck with a 2018 Ram which the ABS has now failed twice within 60,000 miles. This isn’t an isolated incident talking to other Ram owners and judging by the in ability to get replacement parts and needs to be addressed. Thank you. 2018 Ram 2500, ABS and traction control lights cycle of and on resulting in chiming. The result of the effected system is handling and drivability in hazardous weather conditions and snow. When not illuminated Cruise control can be used but will be disengaged once the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminate resulting in the need to respond to a decelerating vehicle. An independent service station has concluded and collaborated with the dealership that the it has a bad ABS Module, HCU or both. Dealer stated parts are not available and are on back order for more than 6 months
The Uconnect display will randomly start rapidly selecting features causing great distraction to the driver and occupants. This includes automatically initiating the SOS call, dialing 911 on Bluetooth connected phones, turning on seat heaters, steering wheel heaters, activating the reverse camera display (the list of things it will do goes on for most of the features), all causing great distraction.
The abs light blinks and sounder beeps on and off intermittently while driving and the cruise control does not stay functioning when this occurs.
Hydraulic Control Unit is failing at 58k miles. Keeps flashing on and off saying check ABS System and Check Electronic Braking System. This is a known issue by the dealer and all over the forums and is a recall on other years just not my specific model currently.
Total brake failure. Went to park at the bank (luckily was only moving at 4MPH) Went to stop and the brake pedal sank all the way to the floor. I quickly pumped them and was able to stop only inches from going through a fence. Was able to pump the peddle till it was solid again. Has not happened again since then.
My truck was purchased new by me in January of 2019. At approximately 47,000 miles my ABS system failed and I payed to replace the ABS pump/module per manufacturer recommendation. Now in January of 2023 at approximately 95,000 miles the same part has failed on the truck. The ABS system does not function properly causing a substantial safety risk. In addition, I have been told that the part required for repair (ABS pump/module) is out of stock and is not able to be ordered until August of 2023 at which time i will be required to pay out of pocket for the repair. Not only is the time frame for the repair part unacceptable. It is also unacceptable that a quality part has not been supplied. ABS pump/module is not a wear item that should be replaced in such a short timespan.
Intermittent ABS, EBS and traction control issues causing spurious warnings and loss of cruse control. The alerts are distracting to the driver, loss of ebs/abs represents safety issues while traveling, as does the loss of traction control and cruse control. Dealer has diagnosed the issue to the respective abs/ebs controllers but reports no parts in inventory and no due date for when they will be available. Formally request NHTSA force a recall to require the mfg to correct the issue expeditiously.
The ABS/Traction Control light continually goes on and off. I took the vehicle into Tate Dodge Ram Service center in Glen Burnie, MD the first week of January 2023. They diagnosed the problem as the ABS Control Module and Hydraulic Control Units as bad. I was told that it would take 2 weeks to get the parts. I checked back with them 2 weeks later and the ETA had changed to March 16, 2023. I left the vehicle with them and checked back after March 16th, the ETA had then been changed to August 15, 2023. I picked the vehicle up from the service department and check on it August 15th. They had received on of the part, but the other one was scheduled to be delivered Sept 15, 2023. I contacted them again on Sept 18th, when I was told that the part would not be delivered until February 15, 2024 (13+ months). The lights continue to go on and off with a bell each time the light comes on, which is very distracting. It is unsettling to drive, not knowing if my brakes will work in an emergency or if the traction control will work when we get slippery road this winter.
I have a 2018 ram 2500 purchase from the dealership within the same week of purchase magically the ABS system failed driving down the highway in the middle of winter time kicking out cruise control and traction control causing me to almost crash on the highway and get hit by a semi Not only have I had the truck for almost 2 years unable to drive it I believe the dealership should never been able to sell me this vehicle with the known problems and what they already failing ABS system making me unaware of the issue Yes and the brake system not working in the truck sitting has caused other failures in the vehicle now a transmission shop told me the ABS failure affecting other parts of the truck caused the transmission brain to not work correctly and my warranty could not fix the transmission is corrected and fixed so I have those problems now that can't be fixed until the ABS systems fixed and there's no parts available still so my warranty is going to expire before the break system can get fixed Before it went out on me there were no lights I purchased it from the dealership so obviously they had cleared out the failure and lights to make the vehicle sale because the ABS light came on during test drive and I was told that was a new feature to remind you to check brake pad for wear and tear
Intermittent warning on dash and chime with "Service Electronic Brake System" and "Service Antilock Brake System". On most daily drives the chime and warning go off about every 2-4 minutes. I have video of it going off 30 times in one minute. Dealer wants to replace brake controller and head unit at a cost of $1600. This is a safety issue and should be recalled.
Hydraulic control unit was replaced July 2020 (ABS traction control lights coming on MEANING, NO ABS NO TRACTION NO 4 WHEEL DRIVE.) Hydraulic control Unit not working AGAIN. I have NO ABS, NO TRACTION, NO 4 WHEEL DRIVE, AGAIN. CHIME GOING OF CONSTANTLY AND DEALERSHIP HAS HAD "PART ON ORDER SINCE JAN 2023"
No accident YET. My Service ABS light and Service Electronic Brake light have been coming on and off for the past 3 to 4 months. I took my 2018 Ram 2500, (odometer 44,000 miles), to the dealer and they ran a diagnostic and found, ABS Pump Motor Control circuit and ABS Control Module failure. The informed me that they could not order the required parts because they are on national backorder. They also informed me that if I was in an emergency braking situation my ABS could fail and not activate. I had a couple of conversations with Ram corporate and they didn't seem all that interested or concerned about my situation. it is my understanding that the parts, required to fix and eliminate this potentially hazardous safety issue, could take six to nine months before they are available. I don't know what to do. Drive my truck, my only means of transportation, and hope for the best for myself and other motorist's and pedestrians? Or don't drive my truck and not be able to go to doctor appointments, grocery stores etc. I almost forgot to mention that Ram did offer to pay for 1 month car rental. What good is 1 month going to do me when it could take 9 months before the parts required is even available? In my opinion, Ram should pick up the tab for a rental vehicle until this problem has been resolved and pay for the required repairs.
