I have a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck and my ABS engine light came on back in February 2023 indicating that I have a problem with my braking and traction control system. It was because of the Hydraulic Control Module was bad. I Contacted a Factory Chrysler Parts supplier to obtain a new part to have it replaced but they were on backorder until June. In June I contacted them again and was told they were on back order until October 2023. I just contacted them again 9/27/23 and now I am being told the part is on back order until February 2024. This will be a full year causing me to drive without the ABS or Traction control not working, as well as not having cruise control. Doing a search on the internet there are a lot of others having the same issue which is bad enough but when you can't even get the replacement part for over a year on a piece of safety equipment for your vehicle . This is more then a safety issue.
The truck consistently flashes a warning for “Service Antilock Brake System” and a scanning tool provides the code C0020-01. The truck was evaluated at a local mechanic, who indicated the code represented a general ABS system failure. I have researched the issue and found that this problem is a common complaint with 2018 Ram 2500s.
ABS, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ON, DEFECTIVE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. SECOND TIME IT HAS GONE BAD, WARRENTY THE FIRST TIME, NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN, NEED TO LOOK INTO A SAFETY RECALL.
Anti=Lock Brake System- Hydraulic Control Unit. I bought this truck new. HCU has already been replaced once while truck was under warranty. Unit has failed again. I have been driving and trailering with a faulted ABS system since 10/22. Been to dealer for repair. No replacement units available.????? And it is constantly ding donging on/off as it faults. Can not trade it in with the fault. 70k$$$ truck! They should buy it back if they cant provide a solution or parts. And they expect me to pay for it if it is repaired a second time. Said 1st replacement warranty ended with the truck warranty. I have worked for a top automotive fuel injector/ABS Module manufacturer for the past 28yrs and I can tell you- This Is Not Acceptable.
Hcu, hydraulic control unit, no abs, no traction control, no cruise, no 4x4 and emergency brake light on won’t go off and part is not available been waiting for over a year and a half
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed with cruise control activated, the vehicle experienced a loss of traction control and brake performance. The cruise control then inadvertently deactivated. The Service Electronic Brake System message was displayed, and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the speedometer and tachometer dropped to zero while driving. The contact pulled over and turned off the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to restart. The contact disconnected and reconnected the battery to reset the vehicle. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the HCU was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was determined that the ABS module needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22012 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
Uconnect radio screen is delaminating causing back up camera to malfunction as camera changes from bed to back camera view while using the camera for safe backing up impossible. Also while driving unit makes calls both emergency and personal calls and my subscription for sirius xm is useless.
C0020-01 "ABS Pump Motor Control-General Electrical Failure" is a trouble code found on the truck I just bought. That seems to be a common occurrence per Ram/Cummins forums. The truck is from a salvage auction, so I cannot say exactly what took place or about personal injury.
The rearview mirror backup camera display intermittently does not turn on or disappears while vehicle is in reverse. Yes. Could cause significant risk to others outside the vehicle while backing up if not seen in other mirrors. I have sent the truck in multiple times to multiple dealers but it is intermittent so they were not able to recreate the problem while in their possession. Only inspected by the dealership. No warning lamps or messages or other issues prior to the display not showing. I first noticed the issue the first week I purchased the truck (2022). I have a video of the issue for proof but this form will not allow me to upload.
ABS system failed to perform. Hard braking on interstate caused tires to lock up and vehicle began to slide, causing trailer to start to outrun truck. A message appeared stating that ABS system needed service. The message is not stored in the message center so I can not confirm wording. Dealership replaced a brake component due to finding a problem buried in the computer at 39993 miles. This event occurred at approximately 45000 miles as the truck now sits with 45057 miles. Appointment has been made with dealership which states that diagnostic fees may be charged.
Service electronic brake/ service ABS warning lights come on intermittently causing cruise control to disengage. This is the second time this issue has arose. The first time the dealer replaced the HCU. This is a common problem and needs to be addressed and a recall initiated. The parts seem to be defective because this problems continually occurs.
Truck was bought by me 12/28/22 with around 4900 miles on it. Within driving the vehicle approximately 40 miles the service electronic brakes and service abs lights began to illuminate intermittently. I have driven approximately 2000 miles and they keep going on and off, seemingly while hitting bumps. From my research I believe it to be a failure of the abs hydraulic control unit. I believe the manufacturer knows this to be a common problem and has revised the part in question. This should be a recall on these particular trucks, a quick Google search of the part number of the hcu will reveal numerous people with the exact same issue.
The Abs light came on a couple of days before the accident happened. Then light would turn off after awhile but would re appear when truck was driving for a few minutes. My boyfriend was driving to work when he applied the brakes and truck slid into the pole during the winter .Truck was towed and fixed at auto shop. No one was hurt just damaged my truck completely in the front. When I got a letter for a recall on the abs that’s when I took in to the dealership and got that issue fixed. There was one other light that was coming on after the accident but the dealership fixed that issue as well since it was part of the recall.
During the month of July 2021 I would get a message to service the antilock brakes. At 16400 miles I took the truck to the dealer any they replaced the Control Anti-lock brake system and Module. Part numbers 68143491AA & 68347098AB. As of this week with 24400 miles on the truck I am getting the same intermittent message. The the message comes up with shuts down cruise control, makes a chime noise and turns on dash lights. The message will come up stopped to moving at any speed.
I have a 2018 Ram 2500 I has second abs module failure and dealer still has failed to get my truck fix. the abs failure been failed back in 12/25/2022. with abs failure cruise control is lost also.
On my way to work one day the check engine light,ABS light and traction control light came on and I thought something under the hood had came loose thought nothing about it and went into work when I came back out and got into the truck the lights where gone no big deal just sorta let it go and since I work out of state this is the truck I drive when I go back to my home state so I drove it 4 hours one way and never had a problem and then on my way back to my work state the truck shut off and wouldn’t start back up for about 45 minutes or so but when it did it had a red lightning bolt,ABS,traction control and check engine light on so I called the dealership and asked them to check on it but by the time they got it in the shop the lights had went back off and they told me that nothing was wrong with it so I went to pick it up the next day but as soon as I got 1/2 a mile down the road it started the same thing brakes going in and out truck shutting off so they paid for it to be towed back and figured out that the egr and the abs brake module was going out and tried to make me pay for everything out of pocket because it had just went out of warranty with ram but it had the extended warranty and keep in mind this truck has 30k miles on it but anyways they replaced the egr but have yet to replace the abs braking module
I had my my ABS module go bad at at 2 years and 9 months the ABS module went bad again been not on working conditions Since December of 2022. Went to the dealer 3 times part is still back order until August 2023. I am not the only person having this issue there is many out there. This part needs to be recall from Mopar.
ABS and Electronic Braking System. I have not been able to use cruise control because this problem with my brakes also disabled my cruise control. I worry about my brakes failing. The part(s) needed to repair this have not been made available so I've been advised to not have it serviced until repair parts can be made available. I have had warning lamps light up on the dash since December of 2022. It's been over three years and RAM is not handling this in a timely fashion. I'm concerned about my brakes failing.
while driving the vehicle beeps several times indicating that there is an issue with the ABS, also notice the traction control and ABS was lite up on the indicator panel. i was on the highway and before i could find a safe place to pull over both the beeping and the illumination cleared. several days later it showed up again and disappeared just as fast. this issue just happen, so i'm doing some research to see if there are any recalls.
Driving along freeway to visit family, cruise control engaged, travelling 65 mph, when all of a sudden several messages flashed on the dash to "check electronic braking system", and traction control disengaged light and service light came on as Cruise control shut off. after a few seconds lights went out and system returned to normal. Repeated several times on way back home (3 hr drive) and had randomly happened since almost every time I drive the truck. Had similar situation a year after I bought the vehicle, 11/2020 @6600 miles, local dealer replaced HCU. This can potentially leave me without Traction control and ABS when I need them and could cause an Accident. I'm waiting for dealer to get other parts in for a covered warranty repair, (Been waiting since Nov 2022), and have them fix both, again, but it renders my truck useless- dangerous to drive until then.
ABS Module and Service electronic braking system lights come on approx every 3 -5 seconds or stays on continuously. Which results in poor and dangerous breaking performance. Have been told it’s the ABS module and hydraulic servo. Dealer unable to obtain parts from Chrysler.
ABS won't stay engaged causing traction control to not stay engaged and causes cruise control to not stay engaged. Skidding and loss of control are possible without ABS and traction control systems working. Loss of cruise control can cause rear impact from sudden slow down. Same problems are occurring in similar vehicles. Console chimes and ABS and traction control indicator lights come on. Message to service ABS system appears on console.
Abs and traction control warning lights sporadically illuminate. "Service hydraulic braking system" and "service abs system" warnings. Loss of antilock brakes while hauling trailers etc.. Problem began around 38000 miles. . Loss of abs braking system is a concern..
Death wobble while driving south on 95 approaching 71 MPH.
The ABS/HCU control unit failed at 16000 miles and was replaced. At 30000 miles, the same part has failed again. The parts for repair are not available at this time. Hopefully an upgraded part is being designed to fix this failure. I am afraid to drive this vehicle in wet conditions or while towing as a faulty Anti Lock Braking system (ABS) could cause a loss of control. The dealer has diagnosed the failed unit in both instances and has the parts for repair ordered. The truck has the service ABS/Traction Control alert pop up on the dash readout.
In December of 2022 my abs light came on. Took truck to dealership to diagnose the problem. I was informed that it was the abs module or abs pump. I was told to replace both parts because the code it’s reporting there is no way to determine which part is bad. Ram has the parts back ordered until August. there is a definite difference the way the truck handles especially with a trailer. The tuck also handles terrible in adverse conditions as the traction control is rendered useless when the abs light is on.
ABS/HCU is constantly failing causing my breaking, traction control, and cruise control to fail.
ABS light and Traction control lights go on and off constantly. Issue started around 38,xxx miles. This is a known issue in the ram community and Chrysler needs to recall these trucks to make the proper repairs to the HCU and ABS module. This is a major distraction while driving as the lights and chimes constantly go on and off and I cannot focus on the road. when these lights come on the ABS system is disabled, all traction control is disabled as well as my cruise control.
diagnostic code c0020-01 abs pump motor control. lights on in vehicle. appears to be major problem with this vehicle. dealer could not confirm if this could be repaired under warranty. unable to get parts to correct problem.
Traction Control Light is illuminated, Service Trailer Braking System, and Service Trailer Brake System Notifications are present on engine startup. ABS system appears to be inoperative in slippery conditions. Service Engine Light comes on every 15 miles or so with Codes P0572 and P0572pd. Download codes and they go away.
ABS and traction control systems are inoperable. Dealer diagnosis in December of 2022, says ABS control module and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), are bad. Ram has failed to supply functional parts to affect the repair. It has been 14 months awaiting parts and Ram/Stellantis has no proposed date for when the parts will be available. I'm scared to death to tow anything (especially on wet pavement) without properly operating brake controls. This is dangerous condition and NHTSA should do something about it.
Abs module failure. Traction control failure Stability control failure. Module replaced by dealer once under warranty and failed a little over a year later. Dealer would not replace defective unit stating it was out of warranty.
2018 Ram 2500 with 18,900 miles. While driving at various speeds, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated with an audible chime. The brakes would slip upon depression of the brake pedal while the warning lights are illuminated. ABS control module/traction control is intermittently failing. There is no antilock braking or traction control on wet/icy conditions.
In December 2022 the ABS warning light came on in my truck. Dealer confirmed that the ABS Module needed to be replaced. My dealer also said that there were several other like vehicles that they were holding onto for the same reason. Internet search revealed that this is a known issue with Ram. The real problem is that the part is apparently on a long backorder. There are reports of people waiting 6 months for the module. I was initially supposed to get the part on 18 JAN but that date shifted to 15 March and the dealer is telling me it's unlikely we'll even get it then. Two issues as I see it. 1- Ram has installed defective ABS modules in its trucks and has no way of replacing them. My truck is a 2018 with only 43000 miles on it, should ABS modules be going bad? Should a vehicle owner have a reasonable expectation that the company will be able to fix/backup it's products? The other issue that really pertains to NHTSA is that I've heard from multiple people that, due to the long wait times for the part, they're simply pulling their vehicles out and using them. Most people (like me) are struggling with being down a vehicle for months at a time. Many require it for work. The brakes still function but the ABS will not (nor will the cruise control). If the reason that vehicles all come equipped with ABS is for safety, it makes sense to me that having vehicles on the road without it is unsafe. But what are people to do when Ram will not provide a part? I'm working my issues with Ram customer care but they are not helpful. There is no buyback program for backordered parts. There is no rental or loaner program. My insurance will not cover a rental because it's a backordered part. There is no anticipated end to the parts wait and this is encouraging people to drive unsafe vehicles.
Sporadic light warnings displayed on dashboard along with warnings of Traction control and Service ABS control module. C0020-01 code pulled with code reader. Dealership diagnosed that ABS Pump motor control failure and replacement was needed. Parts on recall until earliest Jan 2023.
Bought a truck and drove around 420 miles home, within 24 hours of purchase warning lights and sounds went on and off over and over while driving. Took it to 3 mechanic shops, and all 3 said it was the same thing. All shops said it's been a problem for that truck, but there are no recalls on it yet. The warning lights are for the very important ABS brake system and traction control system. Having a hard time finding a mechanic shop that can get the parts to fix the problem.
I found there is an investigation going on with 2017/2018 year trucks of my model. Early 2019 my truck threw warning lights that my brakes were out while I was driving. Testing them they seemed to work alright still but manage to get it to the dealer. At the dealer they replaced the HCU and sense then I haven't had any issues. The truck was s under warranty so I didn't pay anything out of pocket.
•ABS control module/traction control is intermittently failing •no antilock braking or traction on wet/icy conditions •yes, both dealer and a second opinion garage have both diagnosed the problem •only the garage mechanic inspected the failing part •vehicle warning lights come on when part is failing
Rear Anti lock brake system light came on along with the traction control light at the same time. Quick google search and I found that this is a known issue with this truck and is being evaluated for a recall. I would like to know if this is in fact a known issue that the manufacturer is aware of and if there is any relief for repair from the manufacturer as well.
ABS and traction control light are coming on and going off intermittently, when it comes in shuts off cruise and could lead to a rear end hit, after searching for ABS issues seen Ram was recalling a lot of vehicles for an ABS issues, was wondering why the 18 year was not included?
The “Service Electronic Brake System” and “Service Antilock Brake System” messages with associated lights and audio appear intermittently and frequently. This condition happens somewhat randomly regardless of speed or road conditions. This issue will also cause the cruise control to shut off. After taking the truck to the dealer and running a diagnostic, the technician claims it is the ABS pump and Hydraulic Control Unit. The technician said it is a known issue and the parts are back ordered.
inconsistent flickering/flashing of the "service electronic brake system" & "traction control unavailable" lights with audibles dings. Additionally, the ABS light illuminates. After research this appears to be a common failure point that costs over $1,000. My truck is a 2018 with 36,000 miles. I do not know if my brake system will fail on me or what. I haul a 12,000 lb trailer with horses and rely heavily on my ABS system working in case of emergency. I'm submitting this claim because I know there is an open investigation by the NHTSA and would like to add on to the complaints.
ABS light comes on frequently and disables the ABS and cruise control. I dings each time and does so frequently when I hit a bumpy road. Ram says the parts are back ordered and none are available. This should be a recall due to the anti skid control not working properly.
Hello, I hope I not wasting your time, Well, no accident has occurred, because the vehicle is not driven much, because The manual says not to drive it like that, and does not even have 6,000 miles, the year is 2018, the problem is the (abs) anti-lock brake system, the vehicle was checked by the dealer on 12/06/2022, and there is still no answer,
While traveling down a road in Palatka, FL, going 70mph, I experienced my truck disengage from cruise control and violently lock up the rear tires during wet road conditions. Shortly after the cruise control disengaged, an intermittent ABS and Traction control light illuminated. After bringing my vehicle to a certified auto shop, I was informed that the ABS Pump (Hydraulic Control Unit) OEM Part# 68143491AB was found to be at fault. I was told that the part would not be available until January 18th, 2023. After completing some research online, I found numerous people have reported the same problem I was having and also dealing with part delays. The Anti-Lock-Brake and traction control systems are both integral to the safe operation of the vehicle. Without the systems functioning properly I put my life and others at risk. I hope this issue gets looked at seriously and can be resolved promptly. People's lives are at stake.
Service electronic brake system indicator came on while driving vehicle. Warning continued to go on and off numerous times randomly and still continues to do so. Took it to dealership to have problem addressed and service worker said this was his sixth 2018 Ram 2500/3500 in his dealership to have the HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT and ANTI LOCK BRAKE module to malfunction. FCA should have a recall on this, but as of now they don't. Parts are back ordered and won't be in for months. Dealership told me it's fine to drive as is but I'd rather not take my chances. Please address this. Thank you very much.
In February of 2022 the radio console screen looked odd. It was very subtle and we weren’t sure what if anything we were seeing. The function was normal at that time. At this time the vehicle was under warranty and had less than 28,000 miles. It was having an intermittent check engine light in July and was due for service so we took it to the dealer. I told them about the console screen appearance and they said it was delaminating which they were seeing in these trucks. They did not say it was a recall issue. Since the replacement unit was over $1,000 and appeared to function otherwise we opted not to change it. In December the screen began to flash and act strangely. When we tried to start it the next day to take to the dealer, it had no power. We had it towed to the dealer The service advisor told us to speak to Chrysler RAM customer service as this was an unexpected failure in a vehicle with less than 30,000 miles. Our concern is the console unit is being replaced but with what. Has the flaw in the unit been identified and the replacement parts modified to eliminate the problem? Is the replacement part going to have the same problem? If we lost electrical power while driving it could have catastrophic consequences.
abs controller failed been waiting on a part since december still no part cant drive the truck i also have a dodge 5500 2018 that i earn my living with and it is doing the same thing and is parked over 6 months without my vehicle there is a safety issue and it shoud be a recall for the faulty part not customer pay but at this point i just need my trucks and ram is no help
while having tires changed 3 different times a lug nut stud has broken off. none of the times was the nut cross threaded or over tightened. the broken stud piece turned out of the nut by hand and seem to have had a manufacturing defect in the metal. i have the broken pieces still. if there is a problem with the way the studs were manufactured they all could break off causing an accident
ABS system malfunctioning, “service electronic braking system” and “service abs” messages flashing continuously while driving. Known issue among Ram. Was quoted $1000 to repair ABS module.
