Brakes seem to be intermittent. Check Electric Brake warning comes on every time you start the truck and has shutdown the ABS and cruise control options. This is a very big problem if you research it on the internet on Ram and Mopar forums.
Abs and traction control lights come on and off dealership replaced the hcu and the problem stopped. 2 years later and only 3,000 problem started again. Contacted the dealership and they said its a known issue but no parts are available and no recall
The ABS and Traction Control units stopped working with 23,000 miles on the truck which also caused the cruise control to stop working. This is obviously very dangerous to have the brake system fail. Dealer has taken 8 weeks to get the parts and is costing over $2000 to repair. The dealer states they have never had this however there are many forums / videos on the Internet discussing this exact problem. The 2019 to 2022 RAMs already have a recall for this exact problem while the 2017 and 2018 owners have to pay for it out of pocket.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH in inclement weather, the contact slammed on the brakes and the front wheels locked up, and the vehicle slid. The contact also stated that the ABS and traction control warning lights had remained illuminated for approximately a month prior to the failure. The contact related the failure to an open investigation NHTSA Action Number: PE22012 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the traction control and ABS warning lights were illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the ABS pump to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts being on backorder. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Vehicles touch screen becomes unresponsive to touch and skips around screen turning items and censors on and off while driving. Seat heaters have turned on and off on boiling hot days, radio stations switch back and forth, volume has gone up and down, parking censors have been turned on and off while driving, radio has called random numbers and people while driving and while waiting for truck to prime and start. The problem has progressively gotten worse and skips around more with every day that passes. Vehicle has been to the dealership twice for this issue. The dealership said it has become a common problem with the touch screen for this vehicle and doesn't know why it's not a recall. This is a huge distraction and $1800 replacement which is not an easy random add to a budget, meaning most will deal with the distracted driving and probably cause and accident. This will not let me submit the video and pictures I have in the formats requested. Please email me and I will send them.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the electronic braking system was inoperable. While driving at various speeds, the electronic braking system intermittently became inoperable. The service electronic braking service light was flashing. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on several occasions, where it was diagnosed that the main module and wheel speed sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The mechanic informed the contact that the parts were on back order. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was not available.
Manf Recall C4B-NHTSA Recall 24V-896 11/27/24 VIN3C6UR5CL6JG350862 2018 Ram 2500 - Vehicle purchased used 8/2020; First brought the vehicle for service due to the HCU issue 12/2022- the replacement part was not available; second service was 9/2023 the HCU parts were not available; 3/2025 dealer states still not available; recall issued 11/27/24 - dealer states parts are still not available; Called FCA 4/7/26 and manufacturer states no ETA for the parts. The vehicle alerts for the service needed with a chime that repeats over and over; this makes it very frustrating and distracting when driving. I understand ABS and Traction control are required safety features and it's been more than 3 years that I have been attempting to have this fixed. What recourse do I have since FCA has not remedied the recall?
Dec 1, 2022, Service dept. at Local RAM dealer in Binghamton, NY, diagnosed and concluded that the vehicle requires a new abs hydraulic control unit. PN: 68143491AB was ordered (Order # 1201BP) At that time, Parts were listed as being on Backorder and unavailable until mid January, 2023. ?? Mid January 2023, Part still unavailable, New estimate of part availability was mid March 2023. ??? Mid March 2023, I'm now being told parts will not be available until mid August 2023 ??? At this point, it will be over 9 months to correct this issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
ABS break failure and deactivating of cruise control on interstate. No warning when it may happen. Does it multiple times a trip.
ABS Module failure and Hydraulic Pump failure.
experiencing intermittent loss of breaking performance. Peddle will go to the floor, and front brakes wont work. Rear brakes seem ok.
Vehicle has had multiple failures of the ABS system. One failure occurred while under warranty at 14,228 miles, but a subsequent failure at 45,994 miles is stated as "not covered" under standard or safety-related warranty. In the first failure, the "CONTROL A 68143491-AA" was replaced. For the second failure, "CONTROL A 68143491-AB" and "Module AN 68347098-AB" are to be replaced. The replacement has not occurred as of this date (3 months post diagnostic) due to a shortage of parts. It is claimed that there are so many failures of these parts and the pass-rate during manufacturing inspection is so poor that a resolution time for my primary vehicle is unknown. The quoted cost of this safety-related epidemic problem is near $2000 or almost 4% of the cost-new of the vehicle.
Received warning of ABS and ESB malfunction as noted in the recent investigation PE22012. This malfunction occured while driving in rain and poor weather conditions, increasing the risk of safety of occupants. Warning indicators appeared and have appeared in the days and weeks since first occurrence but are not always on. Awaiting appointment for inspection at dealer service center.
Lost braking power. Anti-Lock brakes quit working. Lost cruise control. Unable to use anti-lock brakes. Brakes locked when stopping. Flashing dash alarm saying service ABS/Electronic Braking System. All occurring without reason, just randomly. This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk as the brakes lock up when depressed at times as well as loss of braking power.
Beginning at almost exactly 28000 miles, this truck intermittently shows a warning for a fault with the “electronic braking system” and the “antilock braking system” where there are multiple warning lights and tones, and the ABS, traction control and cruise control becomes inoperative. This has increased in frequency and occurs in any conditions at random intervals. Recently it has come on and off as many as 20 times in a 12 mile trip. I am aware of a current NHTSA investigation into these vehicles as well as a class action lawsuit against Stellantis. I have reported the condition to my dealer who advised it is not covered under warranty and no parts are available to repair it.
The trucks ABS light and traction control lights intermittently come on. There is no pattern or reason for this occurrence. When lights are on anti lock brakes, traction control and cruise are disabled. The truck has just over 50K miles and was brought into the dealer for diagnostics. Repair was suggested for the HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit). Was then informed the item is currently on back order and is a well know issue with these trucks. My dealership proceeded to inform me they are currently waiting on "at least 5" of these units for trucks just like this one. This is a major safety concern should hard breaking become necessary and the ABS system isn't functioning properly. To make matters worse it's not even available. I was told they "Hope to have some start shipping out in March of 2023".
ABS and Traction control lights on together, took into ram service dept which indicated internal fault with ABS pump (hydraulic control unit) need to replace and bleed brakes to correct. Not possible to order needed ABS pump replacement until at least 2 months away, advised not to use vehicle especially for towing as unsafe in this condition.
Had brake module replaced under warranty at the dealer and less than 10k miles later it’s doing the exact same thing again. Abs is not working, alarm constantly chiming while driving and abs and electronic brake malfunction lights coming on in the dash. Truck still has less than 48,000 miles on it cause I’m scared for my family’s safety so we just don’t drive it anymore. Is a shame we have a truck we can’t use that we have paid for for this long and still can’t use due to a safety concern that the dealer won’t repair again cause the time limit has expired on the parts warranty.
abs module failure replaced on 21 Nov. 2021. abs module failure second time back in for replacement on 21 Nv. 2022.
The ABS light will go on and off the dash over and over. The truck is 134 miles out of warranty and the dealer said the parts are the ABS pump and electrical board went bad. They do not have the parts to fix then and it is not warrantied now. This is a well known problem and there is plenty of knowledge at the dealers of the issues. They knew what was wrong without even driving the truck. The pump going bad at 36, 239 miles on my truck should not happen. They already have an updated fix but will not admit they sold trucks with a faulty ABS design and should be fixing these trucks for free. My ABS no longer works and I have no cruise control or traction assist and I live in the snow belt of Ohio. I no longer feel safe driving my 4 daughters around in my truck I am still paying for, it is not comfortable knowing a massive company like Ram is doing nothing about it.
In November of 2022 I reported to the dealer that the ABS and Electronic Brakes System warning lights were intermittently coming on an off. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a hydraulic brake control module failure, but stated that the part(s) were back ordered until March of 2023. This seems to be a common problem with this model and year of truck, but Chrysler (FSA) has done nothing to resolve this safety issue. It's been 5 months now and I this issue could cause a crash or worse.
The ABS light is on, states it needs to be fixed, we were told by our mechanic that this is a known issue. HCU unit fail and throws service ABS light. Cruise control does not work due to this issue. This started last November and are waiting for parts for the repairs. The truck only had around 74,000 miles when this started. Our repairs are going to be over $1200 to fix. This is crazy, Ram should be recalling these trucks and paying for the repairs.
The truck ABS, traction control, and service electric brake lights and warnings have flashed and beeped on and off and on and off every few seconds. I took the truck to the dealer to be fixed under warranty. The dealer states it has a bad HCU and no longer has anti lock brakes however I can still drive the truck with all that distraction going on in the dash. The part is on back order and I won’t have my truck repaired until February (2.5 months) This same part was also replaced a a little over year ago under warranty along with Abs sensors and wire harnesses. I have 2 friends with the same year trucks who also had to have the same repair done. Upon looking up information on the internet it seems like this has been a on going issue on the 4th generation ram trucks 1500-3500 models from 2012-2018 I feel the safety of this could cause a car accident by the distraction of the dash going nuts and the possibility of a vehicle skid while not having anti lock brakes properly working. I would hate to drive it putting my life as well as others drivers and passengers lives in the line due to this safety issue ram is having. The issue happens randomly some times non stop while driving and sometimes I can drive 15 miles or so with nothing then it will start again. It first happened when I had approximately 50,000 miles on the truck and has done it again at 73,500 miles. When the lights are on it will not allow cruise control to work or 4x4 to engage. I have not noticed anything else not working properly.
I have a 2018 Ram 2500 which has been throwing an error code for the last year to service the electronic braking system. The dealer says it is the HCU and it is a known problem and that the manufacturer will not have a fix till mid 2024. Meanwhile my truck is not drivable as it is a significant safety hazard. The dealer says it is now out of warranty and I will be responsible for replacement costs when the manufacturer finds a solution. I live in Michigan and I now can’t drive my truck as it is a safety hazard and I can’t sell it cause nobody will buy it with this issue. The constant flashing of the “Service Electronic Braking System” code and constant dinging when the light comes on also makes the truck undrivable. Meanwhile I’m stuck with no truck.
I had a car pull out in front of me had to hit the brakes hard to avoid hitting him, after that my abs light came on says it is the hydraulic pump motor. I looked it up on line says they have 3 service bulletins on it, if it is a known problem why don’t they recall it? Brakes should be one of the highest priorities for safety on it. The truck only has 33000 miles on it.
Abs system is sending codes, dealer says abs pump and module causing code
Abs and traction control light going off and on causing abs and traction control to be disabled. Safety issue being able to control vehicle if had to get on brakes hard Problem was able to be reproduced by the dealer and this has been replaced once before on the truck while under warranty, Component has been inspected by dealer and found faulty on November 16 2023 but informed it would be late January 2024 before they would have parts, now it is late January and they say parts are in the development phase and would be late June or July before they might have the parts. Concern is have a 2018 truck with just over 32000 miles on it that has had the same issue twice and they can not fix, Advised by dealer and ram customer service that they advise not to drive truck, but they will not loan a truck during this time but could rent one at my expense
- I have a repeated low mileage failure of the antilock brake system hydraulic control unit. The faulty unit is still installed on the vehicle. - The ABS hydraulic unit failure intermittently renders the ABS system, traction control system, and electronic stability system inoperable for varying durations. This is the 2nd failure of this system on the vehicle. The first failure occurred during normal highway driving. The 2nd failure occurred while traveling in the mountains in the snow. Had I not been experienced driving a non-abs vehicle in inclement weather we could have crashed. - The issue was diagnosed and confirmed by a local Ram dealership service department. It was escalated to Ram customer care due to lack of parts availability and high cost of repair. Ram escalated part delivery and denied financial assistance. The vehicle is out of warranty for this particular part. - There are various intermittent warnings present. The fault condition will rapidly annunciate and then clear many times in a short time period, or stay active for long periods, or not occur at all. The fault condition appears to be completely unpredictable but is repeatable.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the message "Service ABS" was randomly displayed. During the failure, the cruise control was erroneously deactivated without driver input. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the ABS module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake warning light illuminated, and the "Service ABS" message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed with ABS failure, and the contact was informed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that parts would not be available until March 2024. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. The VIN was unavailable.
For over a year and a half I have been without my ABS system due to FCA installing faulty ABS modules and hydraulic units in the 2017-2018 Ram 2500's and 3500's. The same units were installed in the 2019-2021 Ram 2500, 3500 but FCA recalled those models. I am also without cruise control as well. FCA has even put out a technical service bulletin about this and still has not resolved this issue.
Service ABS and traction control warnings go on and off, on and off, on and off etc to the point where the vehicle isn’t drivable. The truck has only 14k miles and is out of warranty. Took it to the dealer, they said it is a known issue and that the ABS hydraulic control unit needs replacing but it is on back order until at least January of 2023. So now I have a $60k truck that is not safe to drive and can’t even get it fixed.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the ABS warning light and differential lock warning lights intermittently illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS system and Service Electronic Braking system messages were displayed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the dealer informed the contact that the part was not available to do the repair. The contact stated that the failure persisted while driving. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, Hayes Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Lawrenceville (719 Duluth Hwy #120, Lawrenceville, GA 30046); where the vehicle was diagnosed and it was determined that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the dealer informed the contact that the part was not available to do the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the ABS module was under engineering review. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
ABS and stability control fails and warning lights activate intermittently 11/11/22 (47,290 miles) The cruise control disengaged without notice when the faulty modules light up. Under a heavy load this caused severe speed reduction and momentary loss of vehicle control Reported to dealer.(Rothrock motor sales) It is a know issue with thousands of suspect ram 2500's Parts are not available due to demand. This is an intermittent fault with the Stability control and/or hydraulic control module. Both parts or one part faults the other creating a hazard for all drivers Dealer was made aware of issue and states parts are back ordered months out if at all available causing customers to drive the trucks with unsafe braking due to no other means of transportation This is a well know defect being ignored by Chrysler/Ram
RAM has a “known issue” with the ABS system, mainly the Hydraulic Control Unit, with the brake systems in at least the 2018 model year heavy duty trucks. They redesigned part number 68143491AA and released a new version, 68143491AB. However this part has been back ordered. I have waited 3 months so far, and have been told earliest to expect the part is August 2023. Others have waited more than a year already. Without the part, the truck rapidly flashes warnings on the dash. Additionally, the ABS, traction control and stability control systems are inoperable. For a 10,000 lb GVW truck with 800+ lb/ft of torque, this makes for dangerous handling for wet roads. I don’t need anything for free, but something should be done to make RAM accountable for the dangerous situation they are forcing on the owners of their vehicles. These parts need to be manufactured quicker and made available for purchase by effected customers ASAP.
abs brake light comes on intermittently taking off my ABS brakes and anti skid
Abs service brake system light continually goes on and off with a chime each time. Sometimes 20 times in a minute. Code is C0020-01 abs pump motor control general electrical failure. Truck brakes will engage without input.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed, and the contact experienced a spongy pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the ABS pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Had the Service Electronic Braking System Light warning activate at around 30k miles. Cycles off and on continuously rendering cruise control inoperative. The dealer diagnosed and replaced a faulty HCU. At 44K miles the problem appeared again with the same indications. Diagnosed as the same cause. Waited a few weeks for parts, now awaiting a service appointment to have issue fixed. Over 3 months now with intermittent ABS operability. RAM's urgency to fix the issue has been extremely dissapointing.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the check brakes and check ABS warning lights were illuminated, and an audible chime was heard. The contact stated that he had not experienced an emergency braking issue that would cause the ABS system to be activated. The contact stated that the warning lights and chime were activated intermittently while driving at various speeds but had become constant. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that both the ABS and the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22012 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 13,500.
Abs/traction control lights come on and disconnects the cruise control dangerously wen pulling a trailer, code is c0020-01 this is a very common issue with these trucks parts unavailable, I’ve talk to many other owners with same issues please address the problem before someone gets hurt thanks.
Service ABS system message turns on and off continuously while driving. When the warning is active ABS is disabled. Also when the warning activates it will disable cruise control suddenly. It continues to turn on and off. Dealership diagnosed it as ABS control module. They state there are no parts to replace it with at this point in time and no ETA on when a part will be manufactured. They also stated they believe it should be a recall item as 2019-2022 models had similar issues and was recall issue. Non working ABS and sudden cut off of cruise control is a safety concern. Significant research on my part shows this is a very common issue with these vehicles. This happens without fail every time the vehicle is driven.
ABS light on when braking had to apply full force , truck would not stop for about 20 feet was moving slowly so no accident.
The engine oil pressure light suddenly comes on and the pressure drops causing the engine to turn off. Vehicle turns off in the middle of road while driving can cause serious accidents and injuries.
Our Indicator warning light ABS light was coming on back in May 2022...ABS and traction control lights were coming on. We took the truck to the dealership and paid $223.58 for a diagnosis. The part wasn't covered under our power train warranty, so the warranty department did a goodwill payment for the repair. We had to wait approx 2 months for them to get the part in as there were so many other people waiting for it (I was told about 1100). they did the work finally in July, they said it was fixed. At that time we had 17,730 miles on it.... When we left the dealership the light started to come back on. I tried to reach the warranty dept at Dodge but they didn't return my phone calls. We took it back into the dealership and told them it wasn't fixed and the light is still coming on. We were charged another $223.58 diagnosis fee. They then said that the ABS control unit and module need replaced and the system flushed at a cost of $1993.70. I called the dodge warranty dept and explained my situation. They escalated my complaint and denied us any help. I complained to the dodge dealer that the truck was misdiagnosed the first time we brought it in, and they claim it is a different issue with the same part.....but yet the same symptom. I know that Dodge knows there is an issue with this and should issue a recall.
At only 51k miles the ABS pump has quit. They want 900+ to replace it and I know several other owners with the same issue. I’ve never had an abs pump quit on a vehicle before
The ABS failed while on hwy. Researched, and break loss is a common problem in this gen pickup.
