In November of 2019 our ABS & ESB Warning lights keep coming on and off (code C0020.01 ABS pump motor control general electrical failure). The dealer replaced P/N 68347098AB & 68143491 an this resolved the problem. In November of 2022 the same ABS & ESB Warning lights started coming on (same code C0020.01 ABS pump motor control general electrical failure). I have been told this is a known problem with our Vehicle, and that the parts are hard to come by. Why has this issued not been resolved? We tow a Travel Trailer, and this cannot continue to happen. How can this be resolved quickly?
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS warning light illuminated, and the vehicle made an abnormal dinging sound. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed, and determined that the brake hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer; however, the dealer informed the contact that the remedy was not available and asked the contact to retrieve the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 22,320.
Diesel truck computer system shuts down truck for minor def system error code to 5mph within 85 miles to get to a dealer to reset computer code. This will cause deaths from truck not going any faster than 5mph on freeway. Just because the def system sees an error and might cause a bit more exhaust, to shut down your truck in the middle of nowhere causing traffic nightmares and deaths is the most stupid rule the EPA and mfgs follow. Epa and mfg needs new computer programming on all diesel trucks that have this. If anything, make the derate to 65 mph for 500 miles, far enough so folks can get home safely.
The ABS and Traction control lights illuminated and have received messages of "service electronic brake system" and "Service ABS system". When the vehicle was inspected at the local Dodge dealer I was told it was out of warranty and it would cost over $1800.00 to replace the ABS module and Hydraulic control unit. I have searched and have found that this is a widespread issue and people are wondering why a recall has not been issued. I have no choice but to pay out of pocket for this repair as I live in a snowy area and travel with a 2 year old and my wife. I of course do not want to use the vehicle in bad weather without ABS and traction control. Therefore my "new" to me truck sits more than I drive it as parts are on backorder. Considering how widespread this is I have to imagine that there should be a recall.
Abs, stability control and cruise control are not working as they should. Dash is constantly displaying a warning error about the brakes and stability control.
Multiple failures on ABS Brake control module. Module has failed twice now within 30,000 miles. Manufacturer has no urgency in prdocing replacement parts. Cannot drive vehicle due to this issue.
The ABS Hydraulic Unit 68143491AB on my 2018 RAM 2500 Tradesman needs to be replaced. The light/notification came on the week of November 1, 2022 when driving down the road at 50-55 mph and then slowing to make a turn. The truck lost traction and the ABS light came on. Fortunately I was able to brake safely. Of course the problem isn't under warranty and the truck only has 15,000 miles. The antilock brake system isn't working and is unsafe when braking suddenly. The trailer brakes for my 3 horse horse trailer will not work because those brakes are dependent on the ABS system as well. The dealership that I purchased the truck has diagnosed the problem and I have been on a list for the part since November 11, 2022. It was supposed to arrive January 18, 2023 but didn't. Now the dealership says that it will be March 15, 2023. It is a known problem but parts are not available. I haven't been able to drive the truck and still cannot. The estimated repair cost is $1070 when the part arrives. This should be a recall.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle started beeping with the service electric brake system message displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the PCU and the HECU needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts not being available. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the parts were on hold. The failure mileage was 40,000.
“SERVICE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM” and “SERVICE ELECTRONIC BRAKING SYSTEM” lights come on and off repeatedly.
The ABS system has failed again on this vehicle. It was repaired by the dealer at 23,836 miles initially. The ABS module is in need of replacement again at approx. 58,000 miles. The ABS and traction warning lamp come on and off intermittently while driving.
Began receiving a warning message of " service ABS breaking system / service electronic braking system. Contact dealer " while message is displayed, ABS and traction control will not work. Dealer diagnosed as a known issue with a faulty ABS controller and/or hydraulic control unit failure. The dealer said there was no recall even though it's a known issue so the repair is the customers responsibility. The cost of the parts if available, plus the cost of labor is forcing the truck to be operated on daily basis and quite often towing heavy loads in a condition that is extremely unsafe.
anti-lock braking system (ABS) module that causes the ABS, cruise control and traction control systems to fail
ABS and HCU are in need of replacement parts. Because no replacement parts are available, I have no choice but to drive a Truck with questionable Breaking System, putting me, my family and others at risk, since the brake system is what stops my Truck when I need it to stop or slow down. I use this to tow the family travel trailer as well. This is also very important when brakes are needed to function safely. I have taken the Truck to my dealer of purchase. They completed a diagnostic test and also reproduced and confirmed the problem. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer's dealership Service Dept. The Truck's "ABS SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" warning lights and warning tones alerted me of service needed back in November 2022, with just over 36,000 miles. I made an appointment and the dealership serviced my truck in January 2023. Since no parts are available for the repair, I had no option but to pay a diagnostic's fee to have my vehicle released to me, still in need of repairs. The warning lights and signals continue to go off repeatedly whenever I drive my Truck, letting me know that there is a SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED!
At random times I get a chime and dash lights that say service antilock break system and service electrical breaking system. It wont happen for a week and the suddenly it will chime and flash every 10 seconds until the truck sits over night. I have replaced all abs sensors with no change. I’ve taken it to the dealership 2 times and they wont even look at it because it doesn’t show a code. I’ve read countless people online complaining about this same issue and some who have even had break failures. It’s amazing this isn’t a recall item with the number of complaints and lawsuits I’ve read. Hoping this will help get a recall started as the problem is potentially dangerous and incredibly annoying to deal with. It also shuts the cruise control off.
A few months after I bought this vehicle I started getting abs and traction control lights intermittently. Fast forward a year and it has progressed. Now while I’m driving every few seconds I get and audible chime and lights on the dash. This is constant and extremely irritating and distracting. It is also unsafe. I’m constantly driving which no ABS, no traction control and no cruise control. Ram obviously know this is an issue due to lawsuits filed against them and they have done nothing to fix the issue. You cannot buy a new part to fix it because they are “reengineering” the part. It was originally supposed to be ready to ship in august 2023. Here we are in September and they have pushed the date back to February 2024. Leaving all customer drying a 2017-2018 Ram 2500 with an unsafe vehicle and no option to fix it. We also can not trade the vehicle in as the dash lights up and chimes and no dealer wants an unsafe truck that cannot be fixed. A recall is expect at the very least
I have a 2018 Ram 2500 - 6.7 Cummins diesel, The service ABS system and service electronic brake system dash lights come on and go off constantly. Every time they come on there is an alarm that goes off, and it also kicks the cruise control out. This problem started had around 32,000 miles and has continued to now 71,000 miles. I have tried multiple times to have this, diagnosed with a system reader with no luck. Have had the system reset also with no luck. I’ve read on multiple Dodge/Ram forums that this is an ongoing problem with 2017-18 and up Rams that they refuse to address. Any information would greatly be appreciated to get these problems resolved as it appears there are multitudes of people having the same issue. Thank You Note: The mileage on the pictures below is not when the problem started, these were a picture of the lights that I could catch in between them coming on and going off so I could show the mechanic what was happening.
I have been dealing with the abs light going on & off with alarm constantly for over a year now. The HCU and ABS module needs to be replaced from what the dealership tells me. I don't understand why there's not a recall. Still waiting on the part to become available.
The ABS and Traction control lamp keep flashing on and off intermittently. When those warning lights are not lit up, I can use the truck normally. However when they do light up cruise control no longer functions. I have not tested if ABS or Traction Control is not functioning, but I am not going to take a chance. This endangered my family, and surrounding drivers as I was towing our trailer on the freeway and had set the cruise control. In the middle of the drive, the warning lights came on, and the cruise control turned off by itself. At the time we were climbing up a grade, so the truck slowed down rapidly. The Semi-Truck behind almost crashed into me as I tried to determine if I had an engine failure, and deciding if I had to pull over. They honked at me repeatedly. I determined that it was not an engine failure and I could increase speed. By then the truck was below 30 mph. I may have caused more catastrophic issues behind me but, I could not see past the 5th truck behind me. My wife was screaming at me to pull over, and was upset that the vehicle was not working. It works, but the brakes are not dependable for ABS, and cruise control is not dependable. I drove the vehicle several times since and the issue keeps occurring. I have not taken it to a dealership, and do not drive the vehicle anymore at this point. The vehicle has not been inspected as that would require driving it to be inspected. The ABS and Traction Control warning lamps started to illuminate around November of 2022. That was the only indication that something was wrong. I was going to take it to the dealership but it is out of warranty. It drives fine otherwise when the lamp is lit, and it does goes on and off with a dinging sound, but I could not tell that anything was not working. It was not until the incident with the cruise control that I realized it impacted the ability for the cruise control, and that it would turn it off when I am using it. It is completely random.
Ongoing condition. Automatic break system communication along with traction control. Causes service ABS warning light and traction control warning light. Disables cruise control causing instant and unexpected speed loss. Causes loss of traction unexpectedly with failure.
We have been waiting on an improved HCU for the ABS system for approximately 18 months now to no avail. The ABS system is constantly failing and throwing codes related to the HCU and ABS module which shuts down the ABS system as well as cruise control and the dash lights up like a Christmas tree more times than I can count. My local dealership has no information on when parts will be available to fix this issue. The HCU has already been replaced once with the old stock unit and it has failed. This is unacceptable and a major safety concern since we are frequently hauling horses. Any information related to a fix would be greatly appreciated since RAM doesn’t seem to care at all.
A few weeks ago, the seat and steering wheel was so hot, I could hardley hold the steering wheel to drive. I immediately checked the controls for the heat, it was on and I turned off, it turns back on. I finally found a safe place to pull over and went to settings and made sure it was off. It automatically comes back on, then it wouldn't let me turn it off. Finally it switches to cool seats, then then fan is coming on wide open and I couldn't turn that off. I finally shut the truck down for a few minutes. Then restarted the truck, then the truck wouldn't go in drive, it was stuck in park. I kept working with the shifter and finally got it in drive. As soon as I pull back into traffic, the backup camera is on, the radio starts going crazy, going from station to station, I tried turning off the screen, it wouldn't turn off. Then all my phone contacts come up on the screen and then starts randomly calling people. I couldn't make it stop until I disconnected it from Bluetooth. I finally made it home and shut the truck off, and disconnected the battery hoping to reset the entire system. The next day, same stuff, but different stuff. Doors locking and unlocking. Also, had to take off Bluetooth again, because it starts talking and reading all my text messages. I love my truck, but it is driving me crazy, it's so distracting trying to keep it from doing all this crazy stuff. The steering wheel getting hot is crazy, I can't get nothing done sitting on the side of the road. Please help!!!
Abs unit failed during a panic brake situation and I hit a vehicle. No injuries. Parts have been on backorder for months.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, an alarm sounded, and the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving, causing the ABS and the cruise control features to become inoperable. The contact stated while driving and slamming on the brakes on several occasions to come to a complete stop, the ABS was inoperable, causing the tires to lock and the vehicle to slide. The contact who is an independent mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. An unknown dealer was contacted for parts several times and informed the contact that the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
While driving my truck in the interstate in the rain, I went to change lanes and accelerate to pass a slower moving vehicle. As soon as I hit the accelerator the antilock brake system warning light illuminated and the rear wheels broke traction. The rear end of the truck began to slide and I nearly lost control. I had not had any problems with the brake system prior to this incident. From that point on the service abs/brakes light and alert noise began to activate on and off intermittently and the traction control is inoperable. In doing research this is apparently a known issue with the hydraulic brake control unit. I was fortunate to be able to maintain control of the truck.
Intermittent service anti lock brake system and service electronic braking system results in loss of ABS system. The dealer has examined it and recommends replacement of the ABS pump motor and control. $1000! I’m told parts are on back order for 10 months. Must be because of all the failures on other vehicles in addition to mine.
HCU failing. Blinks on display screen. Appears then disappears. When in cruise control and the HCU goes haywire, kicks cruise control off unexpectedly. When this occurs and the driver isn't expecting it, this causes panic because the vehicle rapidly slows down, nearly causing a vehicle collision if not prepared for it. I was almost rear ended due to this. Research on this failure would reveal this issue to be affecting 1000's of 2018 RAM trucks to have this problem. My local Dodge dealer advised I am approximately the 2500th person waiting on the part which is currently on BACKORDER. Have been a Police Officer for 15 years, safe driver and this nearly caused an accident on 695 Baltimore County, MD during heavy traffic.
ABS module/ HCU. Abs light & traction control light is on. Was driving down the road when they lights started flashing. Have been waiting for parts for 4 months because its on national backorder.
While applying the breaks the vehicle will deactivate ABS and force the vehicle to slide without control. ABS will turn off and on without warning. While using cruse control abs will deactivate and cause cruse control to stop working, causing the vehicle to slow unexpectedly. This has happed while towing a goose neck trailer causing additional pressure on vehicle when sudden loss of cruise control and abs.
Our truck has the AB HCU module light showing with a problem.Constant dinging while trying to drive. The part has been on backorder from the local Ram dealership since October 2022. We have been told that it's a known problem with Ram diesel pickup trucks. Please help by providing a recall. This is ridiculous on a truck with less than 45k miles.
The HCU has failed on my truck. This was diagnosed by my local dealer on 26 Oct 2022. I was told this is a known issue with my 2018 Ram 2500. The part has been on a national backorder since the diagnosis was completed. It is now 29 March, and my truck is still not repaired due to the part not being available. In my opinion, based on my own research, this should be a national recall on all of the 2018 Ram 2500 and the manufacturer should be required to cover the full costs of the repairs.
Anti Lock Brake light is on. Truck was taken in with only 13,445 miles on it. Was told it needed an ABS Pump Motor Control. Was also told after speaking to mechanics at two other Ram dealers that it would also need the module besides needing the pump. I was told it would be 5 hours labor at $150.00 per hour plus parts. after researching this problem I have come to find that a large number of 2018 Ram 2500 pickup trucks have this issue. Seems like it should be considered for recall. Thanks, Randy Rigatti
ABS system failure. Dealer informed me that brake fluid leaked through manifold into the computer module causing ABS system failure. Warning light on dashboard says ABS traction control warning, electric braking system warning.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 29,600.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that on several occasions while the cruise control was activated, the ABS warning light illuminated, and deactivated the cruise control feature. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic pump module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that parts were not available and would be on backorder until February 2024. The contact was concerned for his safety while operating the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
For about 8 months, our 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 has had interment ABS and HCU warning lights and the notification to "Service electronic braking system" followed by "Service antilock brake system". This may occur for a period of hours or seconds and disables our trucks ABS, traction control, cruise control and other systems. When checked, the truck has no stored fault codes. When this first occurred, I went to the dealer where the truck was purchased and inquired about replacement ABS and HCU modules and was informed that none were available. After subsequent visits and internet research, I found TSB#C0020-01, "ABS Pump Motor", that directs replacement of the ABS/HCU modules, and directs that the replacement parts will be provided by a "STAR system". We have had three incidents that we narrowly avoided accidents, two due to the intermittent ABS failure and one due to sudden loss of traction control while pulling our trailer. It has also noted that a Class Action Lawsuit has resulted from this same issue.
Intermittent warnings of ABS system needing maintenance while driving. No known cause or correlation to type of road/weather conditions. Intermittent ABS failure affects ability to use cruise control. This started when the truck was at 52k miles. This has been happening for over a year now and we have been told that there is an indefinite timeframe for repair due to massive back orders.
Vehicle was repaired once under warranty for the ABS and Traction Control Light coming on and off consistently. Approximately 25000 miles later the truck started doing this same thing again. ABS and Traction Control Light will consistently come on and off over and over. Will happen when I brake, accelerate or let off accelerator, and on bumpy roads. Sometimes it comes on while on the interstate with cruise control activated causing the vehicle to come out of cruise control. Dealer states it is a common problem and my parts have been on back order since October of 2022, It is now February 19 2023. Dealer states it is a 1400 dollar repair.
The hydraulic control box has been bad in my 2018 Ram 2500 since October of 2022. I have tried to order the part through two different dealerships and three times now directly from Mopar, where my order was cancelled. We were originally told the part would be available in December, then March, now it’s August. The ABS and traction control warning lights ding on and off constantly, which is obviously annoying, but much worse- this is our family travel vehicle. We travel with two children and are frequently hauling heavy loads- a large trailer full horses or a 10,000 lb boat. Not having antilock brakes period is a danger, but hauling heavy loads puts us and the vehicles around us at risk.
Beginning in October 2022, the vehicle began displaying "service anti-lock brake system" along with a chiming sound and the traction control light comes on. Cruise control is disabled when this is displayed. I went a dealer while out of town and they said they were well aware of the problem, but the part is unavailable. When I returned home I went to my local dealer and they confirmed being aware of the problem in this year/make/model vehicle, but the part was unavailable. They stated the part would be available in August 2023. August is here and the part is still not available. This is an inconvenience due to not being able to pull my travel trailer or any trailer. This is also a safety concern since I don't have anti-lock brakes. This vehicle has 39000 miles on it. Bought new and sits in a covered garage when not in use.
At 50k miles the ABS/Traction control lights illuminate on and off, cruise does not function as well. The code states ABS pump and/or electronic controller. The dealership is replacing both and updating software for $1600. Researching the HD Ram forums I found this is extremely common for 2017 and 2018 models. NHTSA as of November 2022 is investigating.
ABS module failure, part has been on back order over 2 months, was told by 2 dealers this is a common problem and to limit driving, this problem also affects the towing features and will not allow the trailer brakes to activate.
The ABS - Electronic Braking System fault light flashes on the dash while driving. This could cause a crash during hard braking, rain slick roads, or while towing. The truck has been to the dealership about this concern and was told the parts are not available for at least 6 months. I was also told by the dealership that the manufacture who makes the parts is not longer in business and there is no plans for Ram to source a new manufacturer. The part at fault is the ABS module and Hydraulic Control Unit. These parts were replaced while under factory warranty in August of 2020 with 13,894 miles and needs to be replaced again under RAM's extended warranty with 24,000 miles. This is an ongoing issue with these trucks. I keep getting mixed answers if the truck will pass a state inspection with the ABS light on.
The contact owns a 2018 RAM 2500. The contact stated that the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated continuously. The contact stated that the failure indicated that the ABS system and the trailer brakes needed to be serviced. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the ABS pump and ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired due to parts being on back order. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
ABS traction control warning comes on intermittently. This causes cruse control to disengage intermittently, and causes braking and traction to be compromised at times
DIAGNOSTIC CODE: C0020-01-ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - The ABS and Traction Control warning lamps illuminate intermittently as well as a message to "Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service Antilock Brake System". - Issue started in Oct 2022 with 33,570 miles. Truck is out of time period warranty and was denied by dealership. Research online shows this is a common problem on this vehicle. Additionally, the replacement parts are not available to order from any dealership as they state that FCA/Stellantis are not accepting orders for the replacement parts.
"Electronic Braking Service Required" message and ABS and Skid control light turn on in the instrument cluster and Service ABS come on. The warnings will go off and then re appear over and over. The repair part is not available. It affects other components such as the cruse control.
The ABS module is bad. Can not drive the vehicle for fear the brakes will fail, especially when pulling a trailer loaded with animals (farm). This is ridiculous, a $86K vehicle with less than 40K miles (we have not driven the truck in over a year) because of a faulty part that the company will not own up to. PLEASE have MOPAR/RAM/Chrylser own up to this faulty part and issue a recall ASAP. When the brakes lock up and someone dies, that will be a real issue. Sincere thanks,
2018 RAM 2500, both the hydraulic control unit and the anti-lock brake system module had to be replaced with only 46,000 miles. I would get a warning to "Service Electronic Breaking System while going highway speed with the cruise control on. Once I receive the warning, it would disengage the cruise control without any notice. That is very scary and dangerous.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 35-40 MPH over a bump in the roadway, the ABS warning light and the traction control warning light were illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the failure reoccurred several times while driving over bumps in the roadway. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit (HCU) and ABS module needed to be replaced; however, the parts were not available. The dealer informed the contact that the failure was a known issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Action Number: PE22012 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.
ABS Hydraulic Control Unit failure, warning on dash, notifying loss of ABS braking, as flashing notice which turns off cruise control and removes speed register from dash while ringing interior alarm consistently. This safety issue reduces safe braking on wet/icy conditions, and has occurred on the 2018 Ram 2500 Tradesman vehicles with mileage between 15,000 to 55,000 miles.
