Component Failure: ABS ECU and HCU modules presented a trouble code C0020-01 after dashboard warning of ABS System problem. Safety Risk: Pulling my 12,000 trailer down the I-5 Grapevine without ABS, Traction Control or Cruise Control is very dangerous to myself and others. Failure Reproduced and confirmed by independent service center. Manufacturer (Stellantis) RAM insisted they change the HCU module before changing the ECU module (P/N 68347098AC). The HCU replacement did not clear the code, The manufactuer has a hold on shipping any ECU units to their dealer network. Truck has been out of service for three weeks! Dated 10/22/2024
My truck has 57,000 miles on it. Keeps getting "Service electronic braking system" and "ABS" message. "ABS" fault light and "Traction control" fault light comes on. Lights and message stay on for a couple seconds. Does this over and over. I had this problem before when the truck had about 20,000 miles on it. Braking system hydraulic control unit (HCU) was replaced under warranty. Contacted dealer service department and was told it was safe to drive, but abs may not work properly.
Air suspension repair on the compressor, issue impacting the stability while towing
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the ABS warning light remained illuminated with an audible alarm inside the cabin of the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 60,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact had been calling the local dealer and the manufacturer and was informed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that in 2024, the ABS warning light intermittently illuminated, and in October 2025, there was an abnormally loud whirring sound coming from the vehicle while the vehicle was in 4WD. The contact stated that the "Service 4WD" message was displayed, and the vehicle failed to shift into 4WD. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
On two separate occasions I had total brake loss , the truck has under 21,000 miles on it and while driving and trying to stop I have total brake loss , today I almost rear end a car due to the failure, luckily for them I have relatively good reflexes and I don’t panic , if either of those were not true I possibly could of killed the two occupants of the car in front of me , I was traveling approximately 70 miles an hour on the interstate had had to apply my brakes. When I did I had absolutely no brakes at all, no idiot lights or anything warning me of the problem, this was the second time this occurred , the first time I was on my way home at night and went to stop at a stop sign at an intersection and again total brake loss , both these times I limped home , hoping I would make it home safely. This needs to be investigated before some dies
My abs and traction control lights come on and electronic brake service messages along with the chime Had the truck scanned by a personal mechanic and the abs pump is not working
Service antilock brake warning is intermittent. This has been traced to defective pump/control modules. Parts are unavailable.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the ABS warning light was flashing on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective brake hydraulic control unit. The contact paid out of pocket for the repair of the vehicle. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact submitted paperwork for a reimbursement to the manufacturer and was provided multiple case numbers for the claim. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Replace abs module code
ABS system keeps beeping due to known defective part which Dodge has known about. My vehicle only has 27,000 miles on it
Check engine light came on. Got a code C0020-01. abs pump motor control. Opon further research I found out this is a common issue and I was told to report it to nhtsa for there investigation. I did not have it fixed yet.
ABS module is bad. Didn’t last long and shut cruise control off. And makes hard to brake with trailers
ABS Module/HCU replaced 3 times defective yet again. This is a safety issue because Anti-lock brakes, traction control, and cruise control do not work
The truck had a recall done on its steering system. The steering part affected is the drag link. The drag link connects to the steering wheel to the tie rod . The recall fix was to weld the drag link jam nuts so they wouldn't come loose and cause a steering loss. Since the recall the vehicle s drag link can't be aligned correctly with the tie rod the drag link is attached to the steering wheel so when the truck is aligned it backs one side out to far to keep the steering wheel straight. This drag link that was recalled is a (safety issue) it's a bad design and causes the vehicle to sway all over the road and if it fails the truck looses all steering and goes where ever it wants to go Wich will cause a horrible accident and harm innocent family's on the highway including my own family it can lead to the death of people in my vehicle and around my vehicle it's a serious safety issue and a horrible recall fix on rams end. I have a appointment at the ram dealership to get new tires on but I don't want the new tires put on until this issue is fixed as the truck needs alignment and this safety issue aka the welded drag link replaced with the correct fix that the new rams have the new style drag link . It's a safety hazard. And innocent people can get hurt by the horrible recall fix. It's in acceptable. And very unsafe it's hard to keep the truck in a straight line on the roads it's all over the place like a drunk driver .
Unknown. Not for certain. Dash message says “see dealer. Electronic brake control unit malfunction” - to that effect. HCU/ABS recall needs addressing. No parts available currently.
Heading down a mountain grade on [XXX] came around a turn on the down grade and all the sudden warning lights starting going off. Tried braking harder but almost no brakes on the pickup. Managed to press the emergency brake, thankfully we were going at a slow enough speed. So many messages on the dash that I was having trouble getting to the trailer brakes to increase the gain so I could use them to help us get stopped. How was my safety and my Wife's at risk, brake failure on a mountain grade could have been bad. Taking it to a Ram Dealer on Tuesday, June 25,2024 in Hanover, PA. I was told by a mechanic that he scanned the system and pulled Code C0020. Was also told probably Hydraulic Control Unit or ABS Control Unit failure which is a common problem. At the time of the incident here are the warning lights and messages : Service Electronic Braking System, service abs, service trailer brakes. service rear park sensors, traction control disabled & trailer brakes disconnected ( had to unplug and replug to get back). INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The service emergency braking system warning randomly goes off. Some times it will go in the morning or maybe while driving. Might beep at me for a few minutes and then goes away
Abs and traction control lights come on, simultaneously canceling cruise control. Vehicle speed immediately slows, and traffic behind me catches up quickly as it takes a few seconds to react and get the vehicle back up to speed. Also, no abs in wet condition, etc. Bumps in the road cause the system to go out and come back on. It's become such a problem that I've had to pull the fuse for abs, which means no more cruise control. But also activates the red brake warning light. So if another problem comes up, I won't know as the brake light is already on.
warning lights for ABS and anti skid lights on intermittently
Service abs system. Had repaired but now came back. Abs control module No parts available national backorder ram needs to address this and fix my truck for free.
The ABS brake system control module HCU is failing vehicle is available for inspection I’m not sure if the brace are going to work or not the traction control is affected. Vehicle is not safe to drive long distance. The vehicle has not been reproduced for a dealer or independent service center. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer or the police or the insurance representative or any other Agency? I was driving along when I got the notice on my dashboard. My ABS module was malfunctioning and then it quit malfunctioningand then it started malfunctioning again, right now it is back-and-forth at random. A call to the local dealer service rep said that the parts not available and they do not know when it will be. My concern is it safe to drive or not?
My truck has 22,780 miles on it. This truck is currently in the shop having the Fifth ABS Module, ABS Control and ABS Hydraulic unit. The First time that this occurred was on 11/26/2018, 6,199 miles. I had owned the truck 16 months at this time. The Second time was on 7/6/2020, 11,982 miles (They called it an Axel Actuator this time, but it was the same error message on the dash panel as before). The Third time was on 12/14/2020, 14,930 miles. The dealer waved the deductible charges, this time, since the truck was just out of the regular warranty and this was an ongoing problem. The Fourth time was on 1/19/2024, 21,348 miles. Again, having to use extended warranty and pay the deductible. It's currently in the shop being repaired for the Fifth time for the same problem, 5/6/2024, 22,780 miles, Not even 4 months and less than 1,500 miles since the previous repair. The Dealer also said that the Brake Pedal sensor is bad this time in addition to all of the ABS parts. Once again, having to use extended warranty and pay the deductible. If I count the original ABS Equipment, this will make the Sixth ABS Equipment that has been on my truck. This is a MAJOR Safety issue due to the fact that I pull a 15,000 lb. fifth wheel RV and often times I have to come down mountains after it has failed. The Dealer has said that this an ongoing problem with the Ram 3500 & 2500 trucks. I have never had any vehicle in my entire life that has had an ABS problem, let alone this many times. Something needs to be done to correct this problem BEFORE someone is KILLED!
Third time the ABS module has been replaced in 29,000 miles. Took months for our dealer to acquire the part. Second one with the "AB" suffix. Truck only used for livestock towing hence the low mileage. When the ABS-STC go out the warning indicators come on along with a "Service Electronic Braking" system message. When this occurs, not only are the two mandated important safety systems inoperative, four wheel drive wont engage. I don't use cruise control but hundreds of reports state it also is inoperative. Why is Stellantis and NHTSA dragging their feet on getting this issue resolved and recalled once and for all. Not having Anti Lock Brakes and Stability Control are dangerous. I don't get it.
Tire Size: LT235/80R17. Tire installed [XXX]. Tire Dated Stamp: 4619. Mileage on tire: Approx 23K. Vehicle: 2017 Ram 3500 Laramie Longhorn Dually w/6.7L Diesel. Road Surface: Smooth. Hazards: none. The anti lock brake controller is failing and keeps the traction controller and cruise control from working properly.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated while the vehicle was undergoing DOT inspection, the DOT inspector advised the contact to shift in neutral (N), and to activate and squeeze the brake controller manually. The contact was then advised to shift into drive (D) and to release the brake pedal while squeezing the brake controller. The contact stated that upon following the instructions, the vehicle moved forward. The DOT inspector determined that the brake controller was malfunctioning because the trailer brakes failed to prevent vehicle movement when manually activated. The contact stated that the company's mechanic replaced the 7-way pins, the 7-way pin trailer cable, the 7-way pin wiring harness box, and module, the brake controller assembly, the wiring on the front and rear axles, the brake assemblies; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that when the brake controller was set at the max 10, the brake wire connector displayed 6.5 Volts, while the voltage should be 13.2 Volts. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 162,388.
ABS warning lights lights keeps intermitting keeps going on and off. The ABS light and traction control lights flashes on and off, speed control goes off as well as a bell alarm. Had the ABS pump replaced under warranty at 22000 miles and now at 59000 mile same issues.
Driving 2017 Ram 3500 ABS light and traction control light. Problem with Hyrdraulic control unit and ABS control module. No parts available for repair. No accident report ABS problem condition that can't be fixed
Potential Grid Heater defect that can cause major engine failure and/or fire. The bolt connecting the Heater Grid to the intake plenum can heat up and break off, fall into the intake, and get pulled into a cylinder causing major damage.
on Cummins Diesel Engine installed on this vehicle, On the Intake Air Heater assembly, there is a nut/bolt that has voltage applied to it to heat incoming air, this bolt/nut can melt and then eventually drop into #6 cylinder which will damage engine and possibly freeze/stop engine while driving thereby creates a safety hazard while driving. In my case engine warning light came on before the bolt dropped into cylinder and was repaired before damage occurred. Also see the following Utube link for video on issue. [XXX] Dodge Ram needs to recall these vehicles to check and repair this, also to redesign it so that it can't happen INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
issue with reoccurring Electronic Brake System Failure message along with ABS and Stability Control faults. This is now the third time this error has appeared. Twice they replaced both the ABS controller and hydraulic unit.
Antilock brake module failure and no traction control. Also no cruise control. Having this problem for over two years, took vehicle to dealer and replaced valve in abs system. Having the same problem again for one and a half years now. Please fix.
Truck broke engine while driving in downtown Atlanta, GA towing a trailer. After having a certified diesel mechanic diagnose the problem, it was discovered that the grid heater has malfunctioned causing it to melt a bolt and break off into the engine thus causing a total engine loss. After researching online and speaking with the mechanic, this is apparently a common problem that we were unaware of. Had we been informed, we could have been proactive in preserving the engine. What could have been a pretty cheap fix has turned into a $15-$20k dollar repair job and could’ve ended with us in a wreck had we not been able to exit the road in time. I’m aware that there are no current recalls on this particular VIN. However, I would like for you to investigate the problem further because it could save consumers a lot of money and possibly their life.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
The ABS System has failed twice since i have owned this vehicle. The first time on [XXX] 2022. I brought the vehicle in for repair at Victory Ram in Shallotte, NC. They replaced the ABS Module and it failed again in January of 2024. This part is not available now so I must wait for a new part to be designed. I am driving this vehicle with a malfunctioning ABS System. I believe this should be a recall as it is a safety hazard and an expensive repair that the consumer should not be responsible for. The ABS and traction control lights keep chiming and flashing. This condition disables the cruise control as well and possibly the 4WD system. Parts aren’t available at this time from the dealership and after doing research, this seems to be a very common problem with the 2017-2018 Ram 2500/3500 models.
ABS Module and traction control do not work. Cruise control does not work. The ABS and traction control continually blink on and off. Was told that there is no replacement part for the ABS module and that is it unavailable indefinitely.
The ABS module has not worked for over a year. To me this isn’t a timely response. What are my options?
Service antilock brake system. This problem appeared about one year and a half ago, I took it to the Dodge dealership where after diagnosis, they replaced a valve in the hydraulic system. the cost of the repair was, $800.00. Now as of 12/28/2023, I am having the same problem with the same code and dash brake light and stability control. We need a recall, which will repair these problems, or redesign the parts associated with this system. Now, I am driving a vehicle that is probably unsafe to use. The vehicle is a 2017 Dodge Ram 3500 6.4 liter engine, SRW. Thank you
On many occasions, the backup camera on my 2017 Ram 3500 DOES NOT FUNCTION when placed in reverse. I had my vehicle serviced and the Dealer said no problem with the camera could be found, but they did check all of the connectors were OK. The problem usually happens on wet or high humidity days, but also occurs during nice weather at random times. When the problem occurs, the display just shows random scrambled signal like a TV tuned to a channel with no signal. I noticed a recall that does not affect my model year. I am curious if the recall can be extended to my model year. The campaign for backup cameras is 23V654.
Grid heater bolt failure. Vehicle is currently located at the dealership and the is labeled “Do not start”. Part of the grid heater bolt can fall into vehicle intake and cause catastrophic engine failure. Check engine light came on after bolt failure. This has been a known issue but nothing has been done to resolve it.
The ABS module/HCU has failed again. I originally failed in August of 2021, it was replaced with mopar OEM parts, it has now failed again.
The contact owns a 2017 RAM 3500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the service brakes activated, and the vehicle slid and crashed into a deer. The contact stated that the deer appeared instantly. The brake pedal was depressed; however the vehicle failed to stop, and the vehicle crashed into the deer. The ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred two times, and each time the contact's vehicle crashed into a deer. The contact stated that each time the deer appeared so fast. In addition, the contact stated that the area in which the contact resides was highly populated with deer. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for damage repairs to the exterior of the vehicle. In addition, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a failed HCU module. The contact was informed that the HCU module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. In addition, the contact stated that the dealer ordered the parts two years ago. The contact was informed that the parts were on back order and the parts were not available. The contact received a recall notification NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the parts were not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing and provide a diagnostic fee. In addition, the contact was informed that the parts were not available. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
2017 Ram 3500 intermittently displayed service anti-lock brake system and service electronic braking system notifications on the dash display while parked and driving. A local dealer diagnosed the fault it as an ABS hydraulic controller/pump failure and stated the replacement part is on backorder with an unknown timeline for arrival. They have informed me that the truck may not perform braking safety functions as intended and advised I should not drive the vehicle until the problem has been corrected.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH and coming to a stop, the brake pedal felt abnormally loose, causing the braking distance to be extended. The ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the ABS control sensor and ABS control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that several weeks later the message "Trailer Brake Connected - Go to Vehicle Settings - Check Vehicle Wiring" was temporarily displayed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.
While driving the vehicles message display center says "service emergency braking system", the traction control indication light turns on and off, the abs indicator light turns on and off, the park sense indicators turn on and off, and if cruise control is on it is deactivated and turns on and off. An audible chime indication is also sounded when the message center displays a message. With the traction control and abs turning on and off creates an extreme safety problem especially with the winter months ahead. The vehicle has not yet been looked at by a anyone but an appointment has been made with the local dealership. This first started while driving on 11/11/2023. However, the indicator lights and chime still occur while the vehicle is in park and motor running.
Like many others, I am experiencing the Service ABS light coming on which not only disables the ABS system but also disables the cruise control. The chiming of the warning goes off every few seconds and can be extremely distracting. With the ABS no longer working, I and my family are at risk since we use this to tow a 14,000 lb. fifth wheel. I have taken this to a Ram dealer and the diagnostic is the ABS Module / Hydraulic control unit failure. Ram has known this is an issues for several years.
I have a 2017 Ram 3500 and continue to have problems with the ABS brake system. At 17036 miles on 10-08-2020 I had an ABS failure warning light. The Ram Dealer replaced the HCU module which seemed to fix the ABS failure for a short time. At 35832 miles in November of 2023 I am once again getting a ABS warning light. The Ram Dealer now recommends replacing the ABS module and the ABS Pump. ABS failure should not be happening repeatedly on a low mileage vehicle.
I have less than 60k miles on this truck, and the hydraulic brake module and pump has gone out. Truck has been parked for about 2 years now due to this issue, bc of unreliable brakes. Parts are unavailable .
