TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH WHEN A CHIME SOUNDED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, FOLLOWED BY THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATING. IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,431. UPDATED 10/15/10 BF UPDATED 10/19/10*JB
ON JUNE 22ND WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT THE PWR STEERING WARNING CAME ON MY DASH CLUSTER AFTER THIS CAME ON I LOST POWER STEERING AND IT TOOK GREAT EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I CK FOR A BROKEN BELT OR FLUID LEAK BUT FOUND NEITHER. AFTER RETURNING TO MY CAR AND RESTARTING MY CAR THE WARNING LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE POWER STEERING WENT BACK TO NORMAL. THE PROBLEM DIDN'T OCCUR FOR ABOUT 1 WEEK SO I THOUGHT IT WAS A ONE TIME THING. THEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED, SHE WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. SHE CALLED ME AND I HAD HER SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT. AGAIN THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY AND SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. SINCE THIS TIME THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED OVER AND OVER. AT HIGH SPEEDS LOW SPEEDS, AND WHILE TURNING. I CALLED SATURN COMPLAINT LINE 1-800-972-8876 AND TALKED TO TARCARIA AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM AND WAS GIVEN THE ADDRESS AND NUMBER TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO COULD ASSIST ME WITH THE PROBLEM. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND PARTS DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRIC STEERING MOTOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $400.00 PARTS AND LABOR. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THERE WERE RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM ON OTHER GM PRODUCTS (CHEVY COBALT) THAT USED THE SAME TYPE OF STEERING AS MY SATURN ION BUT MY 2006 SATURN ION WAS NOT ON THIS LIST, BUT IT COULD BE ADDED LATER. IF THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WITH SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT HAVE UPPER BODY STRENGTH IT COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. SHE STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE, THE KEY WAS REMOVED BUT THE IGNITION POWER REMAINED ACTIVATED FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR. THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE FUEL TANK AND BATTERY. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE CYLINDER FOR THE KEY WAS DAMAGED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIRS WERE DONE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A COMPLAINT FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 87,000.
2006 SATURN ION KEY IS LOCKED IN IGNITION IN THE "ON" POSITION WITH CAR RUNNING. THE KEY WILL NOT TURN TO THE OFF POSITION OR ALLOW THE KEY TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. NO WAY TO STOP CAR WITHOUT PULLING THE FUSE AND UNHOOKING THE BATTERY. *TR
THE STEERING ON SATURN ION 3, 2006 LOSES POWER DURING THE REGULAR OPERATION. THE CAR HAS TO BE STEERED CLEAR OF TRAFFIC (REQUIRES A GREAT AMOUNT OF FORCE FROM THE DRIVER). IT NEEDS A RESTART, UPON WHICH THE POWER STEERING WORKS FOR ABOUT 15 MINS AND THE STEERING POWER GOES OUT AGAIN. I AM HAVING TO REPLACE ALL OF MY STEERING COLUMN FOR A CORRECTION OF THIS PROBLEM AND MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF MY POCKET. *TR
DROVE THE CAR IN THE MORNING AND EVERYTHING SEEMED NORMAL. STOPPED AND THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THE KEY WOULD COME OUT WITHOUT TURNING BACKWARDS, BUT THE CAR WOULD CONTINUE TO RUN. IN ORDER TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REMOVED AND A "PLUG" WAS DISCONNECTED. IN ORDER TO START THE CAR, THIS PROCESS WAS DONE IN REVERSE AND THE KEY REPLACED AND TURNED THE LITTLE BIT OF SPACE IT HAD LEFT. THE IGNITION CYLINDER LOCK IS BEING REPLACED AND I WILL REQUEST THE OLD PART. *TR
POWER STEERING GOES OUT, THEN WHEN I RE-START THE CAR, IT WILL WORK FOR A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AGAIN. ABOUT 60K MILES. *TR
IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. KEY WOULD NOT TURN OFF VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE STEERING WHEEL THEN BECAME EXTREMELY STIFF AND LOCKED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PARK THE VEHICLE USING EXTREME BODILY FORCE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED WITHOUT PERFORMING A DIAGNOSTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 47,841.
2006 SATURN ION. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR RECALL STEERING REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED IN JUNE 2010, HE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE STEERING COLUMN AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED. IN OCTOBER 20104, THE CHECK ENGINE AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE LIGHTS WERE ON DUE TO A STEERING RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE WORK HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN DONE. THE CONSUMER IS NOW SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT. *JB
IGNITION KEY BROKE OFF IN THE IGNITION. HAD A LOCKSMITH REMOVE THE BROKEN KEY. CAR WOULD NOT START. LOCKSMITH REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH MECHANICAL PORTION. CAR WILL NOT START. I WENT THROUGH THE RESETTING PROCEDURE TO RESET THE SECURITY PASSLOCK SYSTEM. IT WOULD NOT RESET AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE SATURN DEALERSHIP. I HAVE SEEN A LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FROM SATURN OWNERS ABOUT THIS SAME COMPLAINT. THE ONLY WAY TO BE ABLE TO GET THE CAR RUNNING AGAIN IS TO TAKE IT TO THE SATURN DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED, AND THEY CHARGE A LOT OF MONEY TO DO THIS PROCEDURE. THEY ALSO ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THE REPAIR OF IT, BECAUSE THEY HAVE MANY SATURNS BEING TOWED IN AND DOING THE REPAIRS ON THEM. DUE TO THE LARGE NUMBER OF PROBLEMS IN THIS SYSTEM OF THE SATURNS THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS INDUSTRY WIDE KNOWN PROBLEM. *TR
HAVE A POWER STEERING IS CUTTING OUT WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN A RAMP, STEERING WHEEL IS TOO HARD TO TURN. HAVE A ERROR CODE "PWR STR" IN FRONT PANEL TOO FIX PROBLEM JUST TURN OFF THE CAR AND START CAR AGAIN BUT THE PROBLEM COME BACK AGAIN THE CAR IS A SATURN ION 2006 (48000 MILES) . THE DEALER SAID THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN APROX 900 USD. *TR
CAR WAS SLOW TO START. TOOK THE SATURN ION TO DEALERSHIP FOR CHECK UP. MECHANIC SMELLED GASOLINE AND NOTICED LEAKAGE. UPON MECHANIC INSPECTION OF PART, FOUND CRACKS IN FUEL PUMP AND LEAKAGE FROM FUEL TANK. MECHANIC REPLACED FUEL PUMP AND TANK AT MY EXPENSE. CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW IN 2006 AND HAS 54,000 MILES. DEALER REFUSES TO HONOR RECALL BECAUSE VIN NUMBER DOES NOT MATCH CURRENT RECALL LIST. *TR
I OWN A 2006 SATURN ION. VERY STRONG SMELL OF GAS IN THE CAR AFTER SITTING. TOOK TO DEALER HAD TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP MODULE DO TO CRACK AND GAS LEAK. $700+ COST. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT 45 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER BUT THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO HIS DESTINATION WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE FAILURE PERSISTED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AT A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO PRODUCE ANY DIAGNOSTIC CODES. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WITH THE EXPECTATION OF CORRECTING THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
I HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION. ENGINE WON'T TURN OFF. PROBLEM WITH IGNITION SWITCH. HAVE TO UNDO FUSE AND UNHOOK BATTERY IN THE TRUNK. CAN'T TURN THE KEY TO START THE CAR BUT CAN'T TURN IT OFF WITH THE KEY. CAN'T AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED. IT'S BEEN ALOT OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME CAR. *TR
POWER WINDOW ON DRIVER SIDE AND NOW ON RIGHT BACK PASSENGER SIDE WON'T WORK. HAVE HAD TO TAKE TO DEALER 2 TIMES AND WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT IN AGAIN FOR THE RIGHT BACK PASSENGER WINDOW. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS CAR MORE THAN 2 YEARS. *TR
IN THE SUMMER OF 2010, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN OFF MY CAR MY KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION. ALL ATTEMPTS TO REMOVE KEY FAILED AND HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. WAS TOLD THAT LOCK IGNITION FELL APART AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY I DID NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIR. NEARLY THREE YEARS LATER (JUNE 2013), I WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN OFF MY CAR AND KEY WAS STUCK IN ON POSITION. AGAIN ALL ATTEMPTS TO GET KEY OUT FAILED. HAD TO GET SERVICE TECHNICIAN TO TURN OFF CAR BY REMOVING FUSE IN CAR TO TURN IT OFF. TOWED CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT LOCK IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THIS TIME CAR WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIR AND RENTAL CAR. LESS THAN ONE MONTH LATER I HAD BEGUN TO SMELL GAS ON THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF MY CAR. BROUGHT TO SERVICE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THAT FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND FELL UNDER RECALL SO I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING BUT STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR RENTAL CAR. I BELIEVE THAT THE LOCK IGNITION PART SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS DEFECT. ADDITIONALLY, THE FACT THAT SO MANY ISSUES WITH MY CAR STEM FROM PART DEFECTS THAT I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER, GM SHOULD BE MADE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE CAR AND/OR PROVIDING MONETARY COMPENSATION. I HOPE THIS COMPLAINT WILL BE INVESTIGATED THOROUGHLY AND SOME REMEDY SHOULD BE GIVEN FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE PURCHASED THIS CAR AND NOW HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE NUMEROUS DEFECTS. I, LIKE MANY OTHERS, CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW CAR AND SHOULD NOT BE STUCK WITH A LEMON. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE MECHANIC ADVISED REPLACING THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THERE WAS A CLICKING NOISE, A CHIME AND THE PWR STR LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. I HAD TO BRING THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY, WITHOUT POWER STEERING. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN, IT WAS FINE. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, SAME EVENT. NOW CAN HAPPEN WITHIN 30 SECONDS OF STARTING A DRIVE OR GO A DAY WITHOUT HAPPENING. IT HAS BEEN AN ISSUE ON AND OFF FOR OVER TWO WEEKS NOW. *TR
WHEN DRIVING... NOT NECESSARILY TURNING AT ALL.. PWR STR COMES UP ON THE DISPLAY WITH THE CHIME AND THE POWER STEERING QUITS WORKING. MUST RESTART CAR TO MAKE IT WORK AGAIN. SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN WHEN WEATHER IS HOT...MAY JUST BE A COINCIDENCE. HAPPENS SOMETIMES 3 TIMES A DAY (WITHIN AN HOUR) , SOMETIMES NOT FOR A WEEK. 1. MY VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING IN HOT WEATHER LAST SUMMER. 2. LAST MONDAY, MAY 24, 2010, MY CAR WOULD NOT START AT THE END OF THE DAY. USUALLY IF I WAITED TEN MINUTES OR SO AND TRIED AGAIN, THE VEHICLE STARTED. THIS TIME I ATTEMPT THREE TIMES IN A THIRTY MINUTE PERIOD AND THE CAR DID NOT START. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT. FORTUNATELY THE NEXT DAY, THERE WERE SIMILAR CONDITIONS AND MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START IN THE AFTERNOON. 3. THERE WERE NO CODES THERE SHOWED UP ON THE CAR'S COMPUTER. DUE TO THE VOLTAGES NOT MATCHING BETWEEN MY VEHICLE AND THE MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATION, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE BEEN FOUR OR FIVE DAYS OF HOT WEATHER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, HE WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. HE STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED; HOWEVER, THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 67,000.

THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND WHEN RESTARTING, THE STEERING FUNCTIONED AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED 8 ADDITIONAL TIMES AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED REPLACING THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 83,561.
I OWN A 2006 SATURN ION. THE POWER STEERING FAILS INTERMITTENTLY. SPEED DOES NOT MATTER. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND THE STEERING GOES OUT. IF THE CAR IS TURNED OF IT COMES BACK ON. THIS HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH OR MORE SO I FEEL IT IS DANGEROUS. GM HAS RECALLED SOME CARS WITH THE SAME STEERING UNITS BUT NOT IONS. THE DEALER HAS ADVISED IT WILL BE $500 OR MORE TO FIX. MANY PROBLEMS ARE DOCUMENTED ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN THE ION. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND GET A RECALL STARTED FOR THIS. WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO PAY FOR A KNOWN GM PART PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED FUNCTIONING WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 57,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE POWER STEERING WARNING ALARM WOULD CHIME FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. SHE STATED SHE WOULD SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WHEN RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE WOULD RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HAVING THE DEALER DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT DEPENDING ON THE RESULTS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST, THEY WOULD POSSIBLY ASSIST WITH REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 41,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF, IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED AND THE KEY WAS UNABLE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT HAD TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 94,000.

SMELL OF GAS COMING FROM THE CAR. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION SUPPLY/RETURN LINE FROM TOP OF FUEL PUMP HAS DEVELOPED A CRACK. REPLACED FUEL PUMP TO RESOLVE ISSUE. THERE IS A RECALL ALREADY FOR THIS HOWEVER IT'S ONLY EFFECTING 2 STATES. NHTSA ID: 09V419000. *TR
THE INCIDENT DATE LISTED WAS WHEN THE FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED. I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN MY POWER STEERING SUDDENLY QUIT WORKING. I PULLED INTO AN AUTO PARTS STORE AND BOUGHT SOME POWER STEERING FLUID. THE POWER STEERING TURNS OUT IS ALL ELECTRIC AND NEEDS NO FLUID. I THEN TURNED THE CAR BACK ON TO CONTINUE DRIVING HOME AND I MADE IT THERE WITH NO PROBLEMS. I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM CHURCH TWO DAYS LATER AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. I PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND STARTED IT BACK UP. POWER STEERING WAS WORKING FINE. IT WENT OUT ON ME AGAIN 5 MINUTES LATER AND I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE CAR AND STATED IT BACK UP. POWER STEERING WORKED FINE AGAIN FOR ABOUT 10 MORE MINUTES BEFORE IT WENT OUT AGAIN. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE POWER STEERING QUIT ON ME THREE TIMES IN ONE TRIP HOME FROM CHURCH. THE POWER STEERING MOTOR MUST BE REPLACED TO FIX THE PROBLEM WHICH IS QUITE COSTLY, $429.39 ON TOP OF THE $70 DOLLARS I HAVE ALREADY PAID. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIRS FACILITY WHERE UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY AT ANY SPEED TRAVELED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 69,046.

I CAN RESTART THE CAR EITHER IN MOTION OR WHILE STOPPED AND THE FUNCTION RETURNS, BUT THEN FAILS AGAIN AFTER 30 SECONDS TO A FEW MINUTES. WHEN I PROCEEDED TO TURN MY KEY TO TURN OFF MY CAR, MY CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF. MY KEY WOULD ONLY TURN HALF OF THE WAY BUT WOULD GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND MY CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I THEN TURNED MY CAR BACK ON AND THEN TRIED TO TURN OFF MY CAR AGAIN. IT FINALLY WORKED AFTER JIGGLING MY KEY. SOMETIMES MY CAR WOULD TURN OFF FINE BUT MOST OF THE TIME, IT WOULD NOT. I BECAME FRIGHTENED AND VERY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH DRIVING MY CAR BECAUSE THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. I THEN DID RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT SEVERAL OTHER SATURN ION OWNER ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. SOME SATURN ION OWNERS EVEN HAVE NOT BE ABLE TO TURN THEIR CAR OFF AT ALL AND HAD TO LEAVE THERE CAR RUNNING UNTIL THE GAS RAN OUT. I DID NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ME, SO I DECIDED TO TAKE MY CAR IN TO GET IT FIXED. THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND THAT I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO GET IT REPLACED. I WAS VERY UPSET THAT THIS IS SATURN IONS FAULT AND I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR NEGLIGENCE. MY IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS REPLACED WITH A BRAND NEW ONE FROM SATURN. NOT EVEN A DAY LATER THE SAME PROBLEMS STARTED ONCE AGAIN. MY CAR STILL TURNS OFF WITH A LITTLE JIGGLING OF THE KEY BUT I KNOW IT WILL NOT LAST. THIS IS NOT SAFE! I CURRENTLY OWN A 2006 SATURN ION, WITH 52,000 MILES ON IT. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN 2005. IN WARM WEATHER CONDITIONS, MY CAR'S ELECTRIC POWER STEERING UNEXPECTEDLY CUTS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. THE ALARM SOUNDS IN THE DASH AND THE CODE "PWR STR" APPEARS IN THE MESSAGE WARNING INDICATOR. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE POWER STEERING TO RETURN IS TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN THE CAR OFF, AND RESTART IT. THIS HAPPENED ONCE ON THURSDAY AND IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE FREQUENT EACH DAY. IT HAPPENED TWICE FRIDAY, THEN ABOUT 20 TIMES IN THE COURSE OF A 15 MILE DRIVE ON SATURDAY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS THING TO CUT OUT ON YOU BECAUSE IT JUST HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. ONE OF THE TIMES IT HAPPENED I WAS MAKING A TURN ONTO A RAMP AS I WAS COMING OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. LUCKY FOR ME THE TURN WAS GRADUAL ENOUGH THAT I WAS ABLE TO STEER, BUT HAD THIS HAPPENED ON A SLIGHTLY SHARPER TURN, I MAY HAVE CRASHED INTO THE GUARD RAIL. ADDITIONALLY, IT CANNOT BE SAFE FOR ME TO CONTINUE TO PULL OVER ON THE INTERSTATE (GOING 55 MPH) 10 TIMES IN A 20 MINUTE TIME FRAME JUST TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND ON TO RESET THE POWER STEERING. I OWN A 2006 SATURN ION 3. MY PROBLEMS BEGAN IN 2006, ALTHOUGH I DIDN'T REALIZE IT AT THE TIME. WHEN I FIRST GOT THE CAR, WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, I STOPPED AT A SERVICE STATION. WHEN I RETURNED TO START THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND I COULDN'T PULL THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT IT WAS SOMETHING I HAD DONE WRONG. FAST FORWARD TO 2008,NOW THE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF. THE LIGHT INDICATING POWER STEERING STARTED COMING ON AND THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT DOWN WHENEVER I WOULD COME TO A STOP OR SIMPLY TURNING A CORNER. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT NO LONGER COME ON BUT THE VEHICLE STILL CONTINUE TO STOP. AS I BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF AND HAS TO BE TURNED BACK ON AT LEAST 3 TO 4 TIMES BEFORE LEAVING THE PARKING SPACE. WHEN I FINALLY GET IT STARTED AND WHILE DRIVING THROUGH THE PARKING SPACE OR DOWN THE ROAD IT SHUTS OFF AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL AUTO DEALER WHO TESTED IT AND SAID IT WAS POSSIBLE THE POWER STEERING MODULE OR SOME OTHER PART DEALING WITH THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE READ OF A RECALL FROM GM WITH CARS THAT ARE USING THE SAME STEERING PARTS USED IN MY ION AND AM CONFUSED AS TO WHY THE SATURN ION WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SINCE THE SAME PARTS THAT ARE BEING RECALLED ARE FAILING IN MY CAR.
