TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ON THE VEHICLE WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE CONTACT REACHED SPEEDS OF 30 MPH OR HIGHER, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT WOULD TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART WHICH WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM MOMENTARILY; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR AGAIN SHORTLY AFTER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 88,811.
WE HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING IT LOOSES POWER STEERING. SAME PROBLEM GM IS HAVING WITH COBALT. WHY ARE THEY NOT RECALLING THE SATURN ION'S. NUMEROUS CONCERNS AND VERY DANGEROUS? *TR
OVER THE NINE MONTHS THAT I DROVE THE VEHICLE AFTER PURCHASE, A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE CONTINUALLY ENTERED THE CABIN WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING OPERATED AND COULD BE SMELLED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL. THE CAR ALSO GRADUALLY BECAME HARDER TO START, TURNING LONGER THAN NORMAL. THE ODOR CONTINUED TO GET STRONGER AND MORE FREQUENT UNTIL I DISCOVERED VIA AN ONLINE SEARCH THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL INVOLVING THE FUEL PUMP CRACKING FOR THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR IN ARIZONA AND NEVADA. I CALLED SATURN TO VERIFY THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THAT RECALL SINCE I WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I TOOK THE CAR TO BE FIXED WHERE AFTER AN INSPECTION OF THE FUEL SYSTEM WHERE A LEAK WAS FOUND COMING FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FINAL COST FOR AN AFTERMARKET PUMP, INITIAL INSPECTION, AND LABOR CAME TO $657 DOLLARS. I HAD A PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION ON THE VEHICLE BEFORE PURCHASING. THE MECHANIC NOTED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL STAIN ON THE TANK, BUT HE BELIEVED IT TO BE INACTIVE AND LEFTOVER FROM POSSIBLE PRIOR WORK DONE ON VEHICLE. SO PUMP FAILURE MAY HAVE BEGAN EARLIER THAN THE STATED MILEAGE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION 3. WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A CHIME SOUND. SECONDS LATER, THE POWER STEERING NO LONGER FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE POWER STEERING MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 51,806.
POWER STEERING HAS WENT OUT ON MY 2006 ION 2. LIGHT COMES ON AND A SOUND ALARM GOES OFF. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
MY SATURN ION 2006 POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING. MY PROBLEM BEGAN AROUND THE 40,000 MILE MARK. THE COST IS EXTREMELY HIGH TO REPAIR OVER $1,200. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY FAILED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE UNTIL SHE TURNED IF OFF AND RESTART IT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO RECALL 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 63,416.
I HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION ON WITH 43,000 MILES (A WELL-MAINTAINED VEHICLE AT THAT). THE PROBLEM (A COMMON ONE FROM EVERYTHING I'VE READ/HEARD): RECENTLY, I WAS UNABLE TO SHUT MY VEHICLE OFF; THAT'S CORRECT... I COULD NOT TURN MY CAR OFF. THE KEY WAS LOCKED IN THE IGNITION WITH THE VEHICLE RUNNING. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION (GET IT TO A DEALER, DISCONNECT THE FUEL PUMP FUSE AND BATTERY, AND SPEND $451 TO HAVE THE IGNITION CYLINDER COMPLETELY REPLACED; THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS DEFECTIVE). NOT BEING ABLE TO SHUT OFF A VEHICLE IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN (FOR SO MANY REASONS); YOU CAN'T SIMPLY LEAVE A VEHICLE RUNNING, AND YOU CERTAINLY CAN'T LEAVE A RUNNING VEHICLE UNATTENDED (ALTHOUGH SOME PEOPLE PROBABLY HAVE...HOW DANGEROUS IS THAT?). *TR
POWER STEERING CLICKS AND SHUTS OFF MULTIPLE TIMES DURING ANY GIVEN DRIVE. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON ONLY "FIXES" THE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT TIME. WHEN POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF, CAR VERY HARD TO STEER. *TR
THE POWER STEERING IN MY 2006 SATURN ION WOULD FAIL INTERMITTENTLY BEGINNING IN AUGUST OF 2009. THERE WOULD BE A CLICKING NOISE IN MY STEERING COLUMN, THE POWER STEERING ALERT INDICATOR WOULD FLASH AND THEN THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED WITH THE FAILURES OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY AND LONGER IN LENGTH OF FAILURE TIME. THEY OCCURRED AT RANDOM SPEEDS AND DURING DIFFERENT TIMES OF A DRIVE, (I.E. IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN, ON A STRAIGHT PATH, WHEN I START THE CAR, LONGER INTO THE DRIVE, ETC..) AS OF APRIL OF 2010, THE POWER STEERING IS MORE OR LESS GONE. I DON'T HAVE POWER STEERING MORE THAN I DO HAVE POWER STEERING. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THEY SAID IT WAS A FAULTY CONTROL MODULE. IT IS AN $800 REPAIR. I AM WONDERING WHY THE EXACT SAME PART WAS RECALLED IN THE CHEVY COBALT AND NOT THE SATURN ION. THIS CAR, AND OTHERS LIKE IT WITH THIS PART IN INSTALLED, ARE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THE POWER STEERING CONSTANTLY FAILING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THE KEY WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION EVEN WITH THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE IGNITION CYLINDER ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE FROM THE ROADWAY AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN RESTARTING, THE POWER STEERING RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION AND THE WARNING LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 77,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, A CHIME SOUNDED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE FOLLOWED BY THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATION. SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH DIFFICULTY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED WITH THE FUNCTIONING OF THE POWER STEERING FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE FAILURE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS TRAVELED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. UPDATED 10/27/10 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED GM ISSUED A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 51,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION 3. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING SEEMED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT POWER STEERING MOTOR AND STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 21,340. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,342.
COULD NOT TURN THE CAR OFF, THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE ON POSITION WITH THE CAR STILL RUNNING, HAD TO PULL THE SPARK PLUGS OUT TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO KEEP FROM DRAINING DUE TO BEING IN THE ON POSITION. THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS BOUND IN THE HOUSING. DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION CYLINDER AND HOUSING, I DON'T KNOW IF THEY STILL HAVE THE OLD PART. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET GOING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, A MESSAGE CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD SAYING PWR STEER, AND THEN IT FELT LIKE MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I COULDN'T TURN IT LEFT OR RIGHT. I HAD TO STOP AT A GAS STATION AND ASK FOR HELP. WHEN I TURNED MY CAR BACK ON, THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE THEN. *TR
2006 SATURN ION LOSS OF POWER STEERING. BOTH MY SELF AND MY SISTERS CAR HAS HAD TO HAVE THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $1000.00 AFTER READING THE INTERNET THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF SATURN OWNERS ALL THE WAY BACK TO 2003. THIS SITUATION ALMOST KILLED MYSELF AND MY TWO CHILDREN WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT DOING 65 MILES PER HOUR ON THE INTERSTATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION 2. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND AFTER WAITING TEN MINUTES THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THE FAULTY ANTI THEFT PASS LOCK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING, AS WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS I'VE BEEN READING, THE CAR "BEEPED" AND THE PWR STRN INDICATOR CAME ON AND WE LOST THE POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH. I HAVE HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT AND HAVE BEEN TOLD IT'S THE POWER STEERING MOTOR/POWER STEERING MODULE AND WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $1000.-$1200. TO FIX. I SEE THIS AS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND IF GM WILL NOT FIX THIS DEFECT THEN I AM FORCED TO CONCLUDE THAT THEY ARE A LESS-THAN-REPUTABLE COMPANY AS WELL AS A MANUFACTURER OF AN INFERIOR PRODUCT. UP UNTIL THIS POINT, WE HAVE HAD NO COMPLAINTS WITH THIS CAR BUT, WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM, I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH MY WIFE AND CHILD TRAVELING IN SUCH A VEHICLE. I AM SORRY TO SAY THAT I WILL, MOST LIKELY, NOT CONSIDER GENERAL MOTORS IN THE FUTURE. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE IGNITION SWITCH ON MY 2006 SATURN ION SUDDENLY TURNED TO THE OFF POSITION CAUSING THE CAR'S ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING. THIS HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN A 2 DAY PERIOD. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. COST WAS $200. *TR
KEY WILL GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND WILL NOT COME OUT. IT WAS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF WITH THE KEY. THE ONLY WAY TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE WAS TO PULL THE IGNITION FUSE OUT. THERE WAS NO IMPROPER USE OF THE IGNITION OR THE KEY PRIOR TO THE EVENT. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE CYLINDER CASE AND KEY CYLINDER. THEY CHARGED FOR THE REPAIR IT WAS 800 DOLLARS FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY WITH ONLY 33000 MILES ON IT. THEIR SEEMS TO BE ALOT OF COMPLAINTS/BLOGS RELATING TO THIS ISSUE WITH THE ION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 20 MPH UP A RAMP, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING POWER. THE CONTACT COULD NOT MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BUT WAS ABLE TO AVOID A POTENTIAL CRASH. SHE STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. SHE HAD TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT, WHICH WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH POWER STEERING MOTOR FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,310 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,370.
AFTER GOING OUT TO DINNER KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPEN SINCE OWNING CAR. FIRST TIME IT HAPPEN WAS ON 10/21/07 (MILEAGE 22,006). I TOOK CAR TO SATURN DEALER. IGNITION WAS FIXED ON 10/22/2007 IGNITION REPLACED NO CHARGES COVER BY DEALER WARRANTY. SECOND TIME IT HAPPEN WAS ON 3/31/2010 TOOK CAR TO SATURN DEALER NEXT DAY 4/01/2010 9 AM.(MILEAGE 37,369) THEY DID NOT HAVE PART SO I WAS CHARGED SHIPPING CHARGES ($15) TO GET PART TO SATURN DEALER. EXTENDED WARRANTY WE PURCHASED COVER PARTS & LABOR. THEY REPLACED SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. SHIFTER ASSEMBLY WAS CAUSING KEY TO STICK TO IGNITION DEALER CLAIMS. OUR CAR WAS RETURNED ON 4/02/2010 AT 3 PM.. MY SATURN ION 2006 HAS HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS RECENTLY 1/30/2010 (MILEAGE 35,987)THE CAR HAD BEEN SMELLING LIKE GAS INSIDE & OUTSIDE OF CAR I TOOK TO DEALER WAS TOLD FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM FUEL PUMP THEY REPLACE FUEL PUMP MODULE. EXTENDED WARRANTY WE PURCHASED COVERED COST LABOR & PARTS. A MONTH LATER WE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM SATURN ABOUT THE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. WE ARE AFRAID THAT THESE PROBLEMS WILL REOCCUR. CAR IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF, DEALER IS ONLY ONE WHO SERVICES CAR. *TR
WHEN TURNING IGNITION OFF SOMETIMES THE SWITCH STICKS AND DOES NOT GO INTO THE LOCK POSITION. THE ENGINE DOES STOP. ALSO THE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS DO NOT RELEASE AND I HAVE TO MANUALLY PRESS THE UNLOCK SWITCH ON THE DOOR TO RELEASE THEM. SOME THINGS THAT I HAVE TRIED ARE RESTARTING THE ENGINE, CHANGING TRANSMISSION FROM "PARK" TO "DRIVE" AND BACK TO "PARK". THIS WORKS SOMETIMES AND THEN IF NOT I WAIT FOR SOME PERIOD OF TIME AND WAIT TO HEAR THE DOORS UNLOCK ON THEIR ON AT WHICH TIME I AM ABLE TO PLACE THE SWITCH IN THE "LOCK" POSITION AND REMOVE THE KEY. THIS TIME IS FROM A FEW SECONDS TO A FEW MINUTES AND THERE IS NO CONSISTENCY. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR ~$660.00 AND IT APPEARED TO HELP FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS BUT NEVER RESOLVED THE ISSUE. THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 9000 MILES ON IT AND THIS PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 6000 MILES. I BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS A "RECALL" AS OWNERS ARE UNABLE TO SAFELY LOCK THEIR CARS. YOUR PROMPT RESPONSE TO THIS PROBLEM WILL BE MOST WELCOME. THANK YOU

I OWN A 2006 SATURN ION. SEVERAL DAYS AGO THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I STOPPED THE CAR AND RESTARTED. THE POWER STEERING RE-ENGAGED FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES AND THEN CUT OUT AGIAN. THIS IS NOW A CONSTANT PROBLEM. IN RESEARCHING THE MATTER, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL CAR. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT GM RECALLED THE CHEVY COBALT AND PONTIAC G5 FOR EXACTLY THE SAME REASON. WHY WASN'T THE SATURN ION INCLUDED? I HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT THE REPAIR WILL COST ABOUT $1,100 TO $1,200. THE CAR IS STILL DRIVEABLE BUT PRESENTS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN THAT IT IS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO STEER. I HAVE CALLED TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR BECAUSE MY CAR IS IN GREAT CONDITION OTHERWISE.

THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE RELATED TO THE RECALL, BUT THE DETAILS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND MAKING A U-TURN, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. DRIVING AUTOMOBILE, ALARM CHIMED, POWER STEERING WARNING CAME ON, LOST POWER STEERING. WHEN CAR IS RESTARTED POWER STRG WORKS APPROX. A COUPLE MINUTES THEN LOOSE POWER STEERING. GM AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, HAS NOT INCLUDED SATURNS IN THIS RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ICON. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. HE PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INSPECTED UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ELECTRONIC AND DOES NOT REQUIRE POWER STEERING FLUID. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTHORIZED DEALER TWICE AND WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE KEY FAILED TO RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION WITH A CLICKING NOISE. AFTER WAITING A PERIOD OF 30 SECONDS THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WITHOUT HESITATION. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 SATURN ION AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT . WHEN I RESTARTED MY CAR IT WENT BACK ON, THEN WENT OUT AGAIN ABOUT 100FT UP THE ROAD. *TR
MY CAR IS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE POWER STEERING ON THE CAR WILL GO OUT WHILE THE CAR IS IN OPERATION. IF THE CAR IS SHUT OFF AND THEN RESTARTED, THE POWER STEERING WILL BE OPERATIVE FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES BUT THEN DIE AGAIN. THIS PROCESS IS REPETITIVE. THE POWER STEERING FAILS EVERYTIME THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN OVER A DISTANCE OF 2-3 MILES. MY CURSORY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND THAT IT CREATES A GRAVE SAFETY HAZARD FOR THE FAILURE OCCURS WHILE THE CAR IS ON THE HIGHWAY. EVERY CASE I HAVE RESEARCHED (AND THERE ARE MANY) SHOWS THIS IS HAPPENING BETWEEN 30,000 TO 60,000 MILES ON MOST IONS. PLEASE HELP - THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS ANYWHERE FROM $1200 TO $1500 DOLLARS. I TAKE MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL IN THIS CAR EVERYDAY AND SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE THE INCOME TO SCRAP THIS CAR AND GO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE. I FULLY EXPECT THAT YOU WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT THIS SINCE YOU ARE IN THE TANK FOR GM AND TO BUSY CHASING TOYOTAS, BUT YOUR OWN STATED POLICY IS TOO REMEDY ANY SITUATION WHERE SAFE OPERATION OF THE CAR IS RENDERED PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. 1. THE POWER STEERING ON MY VEHICLE WENT OUT THREE TIMES LAST WEEK (3/14/10, 3/16/10, AND 3/18/10). 2. A WARNING NOISE WOULD SOUND LIKE WHEN THERE IS LOW FUEL, AND THE DASH SHOWED THE MESSAGE "PWR STR". A COUPLE OF SECONDS LATER, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AFTER, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. 3. I CONTACTED THE SATURN DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, AND DIAGNOSTICS WERE RUN. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND A CODE RESULTING IN A NEW POWER STEERING MOTOR BEING NEEDED. FORTUNATELY, MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED THE REPAIR AS THE COST TOTAL OVER $400.00.

2006 SATURN ION POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN. I DROVE A FEW HUNDRED YARDS AND THE BELL CHIMED AND THE MESSAGE ON DASH SAID, STEERING POWER OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. I DECIDED TO TOW THE VEHICLE WITH AN RV TO THE NEAREST TO MY CAMPSITE SANTA MARIA. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A REGULAR PROBLEM WITH SATURN AND THE STEERING MOTOR WAS DEFECTIVE. I SAW ONLINE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON DOT AND THE SATURN DEALER CONFIRMED, IT WAS A REGULAR PROBLEM. IT WAS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE, BUT WORSE, I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR HURT OR KILLED OTHERS ON THE FREEWAY. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HIS VEHICLE AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIRS.
