WE BOUGHT OUR SATURN ION 2 FROM MY HUSBANDS SISTER WHEN IT HAD 10,000 MILES ON IT. THAT WINTER ('06) THE CAR BEGAN A PATTERN OF NOT STARTING WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COLD, 20 DEGREES OR LESS. ALL THE LIGHTS,RADIO, ECT. WORKED FINE BUT THE THEFT LOCK SYSTEM LOCKS THE IGNITION FOR 10 MINUTES, AND THIS CAN HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW! IT WAS FINE COME SPRING, BUT THEN CAME WINTER '07 AND THE PROBLEM ONLY GOT WORSE. SATURN REFUSES TO HELP. THEY THINK YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO START YOUR CAR AND TELL YOU THAT THEY CAN'T "REPLICATE" THE PROBLEM OR FIND ANY RECORD OF IT IN THE CARS COMPUTER. NOW, AFTER ENDURING A HORRIBLE WINTER OF TRYING TO GET THE CAR TO START ALMOST EVERY DAY NO MATTER WHAT TEMPERATURE, THE CAR IS DOING IT IN THE LATE SPRING! WE HAVE HAD 50'S TO 70'S EVERY MORNING, YET HALF THE TIME IT STILL WILL NOT START! HOW CAN WE RELY ON THIS CAR WHEN GM SAYS NOTHINGS WRONG? *TR
ACCORDING TO WHAT I CAN RECALL, INITIALLY, I WAS CONTACTED BY SATURN/GM THAT I MIGHT HAVE DEFECT IN MY IGNITION BUT THAT THEY MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT MAKE A RECALL ON IT LATER BUT I SHOULD HAVE IT REPAIRED IF I HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT. I DID HAVE PROBLEMS SO I PAID TO HAVE IT REPLACED. SUBSEQUENTLY, I STILL HAD PROBLEMS STARTING MY CAR DUE TO LOCKING FEATURES. THIS MEANT THAT WHEN I TRIED TO TURN THE KEY IT WOULD NOT TURNOVER. FORTUNATELY, I LEARNED TO CONTINUE TRYING TO DO THIS, AND EVENTUALLY IT WOULD START. THIS IS A DANGEROUS FEATURE ESPECIALLY TO ME BECAUSE I AM A WOMAN WHO TRAVELS IN BLIGHTED NEIGHBORHOODS AND WORKS AND LIVES IN THEM AS WELL. THE CRIME RATE IN MY CITY OF NEW ORLEANS LEADS THE NATIONS IN MURDERS. NO ONE ELSE IN MY HOUSEHOLD IS WILLING TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THEY CAN'T RESTART IT. LATELY, THE CAR HAS A NEW AND EVEN MORE DANGEROUS PROBLEM. IF I PARK IT IN A CERTAIN WAY, MAYBE ON A SLIGHT GRADE, IT WILL TURNOVER BUT SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS NO CONNECTION AND IT WON'T START UNTIL I PHYSICALLY PUSH THE VEHICLE. AT 60 YEARS OF AGE, THIS IS NOT AS EASY AS I WOULD PREFER BUT IT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO START. SINCE THIS HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I WAS ALONE AT NIGHT MAKING A NIGHT DEPOSIT AT A BANK, I AM TERRORIZED BY WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ME SHOULD I PARK SOMEWHERE I AM TOO CLOSE TO OTHER CARS THAT I CAN'T PUSH IT AT ALL, OR WHAT IF IT WILL NEVER START? TOO BAD, BECAUSE THE SATURN HAS BEEN SUCH A GREAT CAR AND IT'S MANUAL TRANSMISSION IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS. I WOULD NOT LIKE TO LOSE MY ENTIRE VEHICLE, BUT I WOULD LIKE THESE FEATURES REPAIRED SO THAT THEY WORK PROPERLY IN THE FUTURE. THE APPROXIMATE DATE BELOW ALLUDES TO WHEN I MAY HAVE FIRST NOTICED THE FIRST PROBLEM. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THAT I HAD NO IDEA HOW TO MAKE A COMPLAINT, AND HAD I NOT READ AN ARTICLE IN THE NYTIMES ABOUT SATURN, I WOULD NOT HAVE FIGURED OUT WHO TO CONTACT AT ALL. THANK YOU. *TR
THE CONSUMER HAS HAD TWO INCIDENTS OF TIRE TREAD SEPARATION. SATURN DEALER REPLACED TIRE AS DEFECT FREE OF CHARGE. DEALERSHIP TOOK PICTURES OF TIRE. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING SUDDEN BRAKE PRESSURE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONSUMERS FOOT HIT THE BRAKE ARM WHICH SUPPORTS THE BRAKE PEDAL PAD WHICH RESTRICTS BRAKE PEDAL MOVEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THIS WAS THE WAY THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED. UPDATED 01/10/07. *JB
IT HAS RAINED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE WATER HAS LEAKED INTO THE MIDDLE CONSOLE OF MY CAR AND ALSO AROUND MY ROOF AREA AND ALL DOWN THE SIDES. THE FIRST TWO TIME I TOOK IT TO BE FIXED THEY SAID SATURN COULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME BECAUSE THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND THIS CONTINUED TO OCCUR FOR THE NEXT MONTH UNTIL IT GOT SO BAD TO START DRIPPING OUT OF MY MAP LIGHTS AGAIN. SATURN MECHANICS ASKED IF I WAS PARKING ON ANGLE, WHICH SHOULD NOT MATTER, OR IF I WAS DRIVING ON LARGE ANGLES, AND TOLD ME AGAIN THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO FIND ANYTHING. SATURN JUST TOLD ME THAT THE SUNROOF HAD A PROBLEM THAT WAS UNFIXABLE TO THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND THAT SCARES ME. THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NO TIME TABLE ON HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO COME OUT WITH A FIX BUT THEY WERE GOING TO DO SOMETHING TEMPORARY THAT SHOULD HELP BUT IF IT DIDN'T FOR ME TO BRING IT BACK IN TO REPEAT THE PROCESS. I FEEL AS THOUGH SUNROOF LEAKING AROUND MY ELECTRICAL PARTS IS DANGEROUS AND THAT THE CONTINUING BUILDUP OF MOISTURE IS GOING TO EVENTUALLY DO MY BODILY HARM. (1) THE WATER COULD LEAK INTO ELECTRICAL AREAS OF THE CAR CAUSING A FIRE AND (2) MOLD COULD BEGIN TO DEVELOP IN THE CAR FROM ALL THE MOISTURE WHICH EMITS VAPORS THAT ARE TOXIC A TEMPORARY FIX HAS BEEN APPLIED WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL FIX IT OR OF A FUTURE SATURN RECALL TO FIX THE SUNROOF. *NM
I HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION THAT WHEN IT GET COLD OUT IT DOESN'T LIKE TO START. I HAVE STUCK OUT IN THE COLD FOR A HOUR AT TIMES LATE AT NIGHT FREEZING MY BUTT OFF. I HAVE BEEN TO SATURN ABOUT THIS AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR AND THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. *TR
I HAD AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH MY CAR THAT I BELIEVE IS A FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE CAR. FIRST MY AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING AND A "SERVICE VEHICLE" LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER. THEY REPLACE A BLOWN FUSE. TWO TO THREE DAYS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. I JUST DID NOT HAVE TIME TO TAKE THE CAR IN AGAIN TO HAVE A "BLOWN FUSE" REPLACED AGAIN. APPROXIMATELY A MONTH LATER IT HAD GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT MY CAR WOULD NOT START. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY FINALLY (AFTER HAVING MY CAR FOR A DAY AND A HALF) FIGURED OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE DRIVER'S DOOR HAS A WIRE INSIDE IT FOR THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS. ROLLING THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW UP AND DOWN CAUSED THE WIRE TO CHAFFE AND BECOME BARE. THE WIRE WOULD TOUCH SOMETHING METAL IN THE DOOR AND BLOW THE FUSE. THIS, IN MY OPINION, COULD CAUSE A FIRE HAZARD OR OTHER SAFETY ISSUES. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,480.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE WERE DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO REACTION. THE HAND BRAKE WAS ENGAGED, WHICH SLOWED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE BRAKES NEEDED ADJUSTMENT. THE BRAKES WERE ADJUSTED, BUT THE PROBLEMS CONTINUED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE POWER STEERING FAILED THREE TIMES. THE SERVICE DEALER DETERMINED THE POWER STEERING WAS OPERATING NORMALLY AND WOULD NOT NEED FIXED. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
DEFECTS WITH HIS 2006 SATURN ION. *KB THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A MALFUNCTIONING PASSENGER SEAT BELT, THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND A NOISE COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR. *JB
I RECENTLY WENT OUT OF TOWN. I HAD TWO PASSENGERS. BOTH PASSENGER SEAT BELTS CONTINUOUSLY RETRACTED AND LOCKED, CAUSING THEM TO HAVE TO REMOVE THE SEAT BELTS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP. SATURN'S TECHNICIANS AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED ONLY ONE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTION, AND REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT. *JB
MY DAUGHTER WAS GOING TO WORK - SHE BACKED OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY - PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE - STARTED FORWARD AND THE CAR ENGINE CUT OFF - SHE COULD NOT STEER THE CAR AND RAN INTO TWO OTHER CARS ON OUR STREET - HIT ONE IN THE SIDE AND THE OTHER VEHICLE IN THE FRONT ON ITS DRIVER SIDE - WE CALLED SATURN AND NOTIFIED THEM OF THE ISSUE - THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK AND TOOK IT 70 MILES TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP - THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD TO CALL IN A SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE TO CHECK IT OUT - HE CALLED US BACK AND SAID THAT HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING IN THE COMPUTER THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE ISSUE AND TOLD US TO COME BACK AND GET THE CAR (ABOUT A 140 MILE TRIP TO PICK UP A CAR WE WERE AFRAID OF WHICH WE PAID OVER $15000.00 FOR) THIS CAUSED OVER $2000.00 OF DAMAGE TO HER CAR IT CAUSED OUR INSURANCE COMPANY TO PAY OUT A UNKNOWN AMOUNT FOR THE DAMAGE TO THE OTHER 2 VEHICLES THE ISSUE ALSO WENT ON HER DRIVING RECORD AS HER FAULT (WHICH IT WAS NOT) AND CAUSED MY INSURANCE TO GO UP - WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR - ALWAYS WAIT UNTIL THERE IS NO ONE COMING BEFORE WE USE IT TO GO ANYWHERE BECAUSE IT HESITATES - LATER THE CAR STARTED SMELLING LIKE GAS - AND A MESSAGE (PWR STR) WOULD COME UP ON THE DASH - THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION AND YOU COULD NOT GET IT TO TURN OFF - ALSO ON COLD MORNINGS IT WOULD NOT EVEN START - ANY HELP OR INFORMATION ON THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION 2 WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I HAD TROUBLE WITH THE CAR NOT GOING INTO FIRST GEAR FROM NEUTRAL AND NOT GOING INTO OTHER GEARS WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I WOULD HAVE TO SHUT THE CAR OFF BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO GO IN GEAR. I WOULD THEN HAVE TO LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO START BACK UP BECAUSE IT WOULD LURCH FORWARD AND SHAKE REALLY BAD THEN SHUT OFF IF YOU TRIED TO START IT RIGHT BACK UP. I WAS TRYING TO GO OUT OF TOWN JULY 31, 2006. I WAS AT A RED LIGHT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO FIRST GEAR FROM NEUTRAL. I FINALLY HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF TO GET IT TO GO INTO FIRST GEAR. WHEN I TRIED TO START THE CAR, IT LURCHED FORWARD, SHOOK REALLY BAD, AND SHUT BACK OFF. IT REPEATEDLY DID THIS. I HAD TO LET THE CAR SIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AT THE RED LIGHT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE I COULD START THE CAR. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT OUT OF THE ROAD HEADING TO A GAS STATION. IT SHUT OFF AGAIN, AND WE HAD TO PUSH THE CAR THROUGH THE PARKING LOT WHERE WE WAITED ON A TOW TRUCK. THE SATURN DEALERSHIP IN SAVANNAH, GA HAS NOT HELPED ME AT ALL. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT WORK ON MY CAR AT ALL UNTIL THE PROBLEM HAPPENED TO ONE OF THEIR TECHS. IT DID NOT MATTER THAT I WAS PAYING FOR A BRAND NEW CAR WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND HAD EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM. THE CORPORATE OFFICE IN SPRINGHILL, TN SIDED WITH THE DEALERSHIP. I AM STILL PROCEEDING WITH THE LEMON LAW PROCESS ALMOST A YEAR LATER. ON JULY 25, 2007, I WILL BE ATTENDING MY SECOND ARBITRATION HEARING. I AM STILL PAYING FOR A CAR I CANNOT USE AS WELL AS FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE. THEY ALSO REFUSE TO PAY FOR ALL OF MY RENTAL BILL EVEN THOUGH MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED RENTALS AND I NEEDED A WAY TO WORK. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH OF THE FRONT SEATBELTS LOCKED INTO PLACE WHEN THE BREAK PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, WHILE TRAVELING AT 40 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS NOT WEARING THE SEATBELT DURING THE INCIDENT AND THE SEATBELT RETRACTORS REMAINED LOCKED AFTERWARDS. THE SEATBELTS WERE INSPECTED BY THE SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE SEATBELTS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THAT THE SEATBELTS WERE A SAFETY FEATURE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
I WAS DRIVING HOME AT LUNCH FROM WORK WHICH IS APPROX. 10 MINS. WHEN TURNING ON TO A MAIN ROAD WHICH IS CONSIDERED A STATE HIGHWAY MY POWERSTEERING LIGHT WENT ON AND I LOST POWER STEERING AND I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR. I RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR MY CAR. THERE HAS BEEN REPORTS OF THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING AND FAILING AND THERE IS NO RECALL. HOWEVER,THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVY COBALT WHICH DOES HAVE RECALLS ON. *TR
DURING A WEEKEND OF THUNDERSTORMS MY SUNROOF LEAKED A LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS SOAKED. I GOT THE CAR BACK, AND DURING ANOTHER THUNDERSTORM THE CAR LEAKED AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO LEFT MY CAR OUT IN THE RAIN WITH A KNOWN LEAK FOR THREE DAYS ON THE FIRST TRIP TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE SERVICE MANAGER REFERRED TO THIS LEAKAGE PROBLEM AS A DESIGN FLAW. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO MANEUVER. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE KEY BECAME LODGED IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE POWER WINDOW FAILED TO OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECTS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
THE REAR BUMPER IS STARTING TO HAVE OBVIOUS SCRATCHES WHERE THE TRUNK LID COMES DOWN. THE DISTRICT SERVICE MANAGER SAYS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, THAT SATURN IDENTIFIED TWO YEARS AGO. DURING THE SERVICE VISIT THE TECHNICIAN REALIZED THAT MY BUMPER WAS MISALIGNED AT ASSEMBLY AND REALIGNED AND CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THEN THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. NOW IT IS IN THE CENTER OF THE BUMPER WHERE THE FIRST TIME IT WAS ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THAT THE ONLY THING THAT CAN BE DONE IS TO SHAVE THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUNK LID AND RE-PAINT. THE CAR HAS NOW BEEN IN THE SHOP TWICE FOR THIS PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN AND SERVICE ADVISOR THAT WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION THAT AIR OR WIND RESISTANCE GOES THROUGH THE BUMPER AND PUSHES THE BUMPER AGAINST THE TRUNK LID CAUSING THE SCRATCHES ON THE BUMPER AND BOTTOM OF TRUNK LID. *JB
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AS USUAL AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODED. SUNROOF WASN'T EVEN OPEN AND GLASS WENT ALL OVER THE OTHER CARS ON THE HIGHWAY. NO OBJECTS CAUSED THE BREAKAGE, DIDN'T DRIVE UNDER AN OVERPASS WHERE ANYTHING COULD HAVE BEEN DROPPED. NEVER HEARD OF SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODING ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S NOT EVEN IN USE. WENT TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF NEARLY $600 AND ESSENTIALLY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN REPAIRED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,566.
ON TWO PRIOR OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE'S MOTOR 'REVVED' OR RACED JUST BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER, WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND APPLYING THE BRAKE, THE CAR RAPIDLY ACCELERATED, JUMPED A CURB AND ENDED UP FINALLY COMING TO A STOP INSIDE A PARTY STORE. THERE WERE AT LEAST 10 FEET OF SKID MARKS PRESENT AND A WITNESS FROM BEHIND THAT SAW THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON. THERE WAS A LOT OF DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND STORE, ALL REPAIRED, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM THAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT HAS NOT BEEN DUPLICATED AND HAS NOT BEEN RECTIFIED. *NM
THE GAS TANK LINE LEAKING GAS
IN FEBRUARY/MARCH OF 2006 I STARTED EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE SUNROOF. THE SWITCH OPERATING THE SUNROOF WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE AND HAD THIS CHECKED ON 03/17/2006. THE PROBLEM WAS CONFIRMED AND A REPLACEMENT PART WAS ORDERED. *JB
THE TIMING CHAIN ON MY 2006 SATURN ION IS NEEDING REPLACED. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT SATURN HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR QUITE SOMETIME, BUT HAS NEVER RECALLED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND UNABLE TO BE REMOVED. A WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE BATTERY WAS IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE IGNITION. RECENTLY, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. A WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IS BEING TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM IGNITION AFTER CAR IS TURNED OFF. HAVE RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. EACH TIME THEY LUBRICATE THE SYSTEM BUT IT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. IT BEGAN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND STILL PERSISTS TODAY. WE CANNOT TAKE ANY MORE TIME OFF FROM WORK TO TAKE IT INTO THE SHOP TO BE TOLD THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE IGNITION SYSTEM OR THE TRANSMISSION/GEAR SHIFT MECHANISM THAT MAY BE THE ACTUAL PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, IN THE FIRST 18 MONTHS WE'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE, THE AIR CONDITIONING COOLANT HAS RUN OUT AND THEY CANNOT LOCATE THE LEAK, AND THE SUNROOF BROKE. FINALLY, ON ONE OCCASION THE CAR WENT OVER A BUMP AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ACTED AS THOUGH THE CAR HAD A WRECK, CUTTING THE MOTOR AND SHOWING THE AIRBAG HAD DEPLOYED WHEN IT HAD NOT. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE CAR STARTED UP JUST FINE WITH NO ADVERSE AFFECTS. THE DEALER SAYS THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING AND CAN'T THINK OF HOW/WHY IT HAPPENED. *JB
WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN OUR LESS THAN 72 HOUR OLD CAR AND THE UNDERNEATH CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID IT MUST HAVE BEEN AN ELECTRICAL FIRE BUT SATURN SAYS WE MUST HAVE IT A MOVING BLANKET! WE HAD 3 SMALL CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT AND BARELY GOT THEM OUT BEFORE THE FUEL LINE CAUGHT FIRE. WHO'S IDEA WAS IT TO MAKE FUEL LINES OUT OF NYLON ANYWAY? *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PURCHASING A NEW VEHICLE THERE WAS A PRONOUNCED SCRAPING NOISE AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS DRAGGING THE GROUND WHEN MAKING TURNS OR ON BUMPY ROADS. THIS OCCURRED AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER, WHO SAID THIS PROBLEM WAS DUE TO AN AFTER MARKET TOW HITCH. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE AT THE DEALERSHIP. HE RETURNED HOME AND REMOVED THE AFTER MARKET TOW HITCH, BUT THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. NO FURTHER ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN AT THIS TIME. *AK
SATURN ION 2006 BRAND NEW HAD THREE DAYS WHEN CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE.PHONED DEALER WAS TOLD TO STOP AND RESTART TO FIX PROBLEM.DID NOT CHANGE.STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO LOB SIDE TO SIDE.TOOK TO DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD AFTER DIAGNOSIS IT WAS BODY MOUNT.POWER STEERING PROMPT APPEARED AFTER REPAIR WWHILE DRIVING EXPRESSWAY POWER STEERING CEASED WORKING CAUSING ME TO ALMOST WRECK.WILL NOT START UNTIL 10 MINUTE DELAY.CANNOT DRIVE ANYWAY WITH MANUAL STEERING.THIS PROBLEM IS ELECTRICAL.DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT OPEN OR LOCK PROPERLY.CAR IS VERY DANGEROUS AND WILL NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO DRIVE IT.
MY HUSBAND CAME HOME AND WENT TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND THE KEY WOULD NOT BUDGE. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING AND THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. I CALLED ON-STAR FROM MY CAR AND HE GOT A ROADSIDE ASSISTANT ON THE PHONE AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. A TOW TRUCK DRIVER CAME OUT AND COULD NOT DISABLE THE CAR AND HAD TO TOW THE CAR, WHILE IT WAS RUNNING, TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND THAT IT WAS FAIRLY COMMON IN OUR VEHICLE. WE WERE TOLD THE NEXT DAY BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH AND HOUSING UNIT NEEDED REPLACED. I CALLED GM CORPORATE TO ASK IF THIS WAS A RECALL AND/OR IF SOMEONE WAS LOOKING INTO THIS PROBLEM AND ALL I WAS TOLD WAS THAT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS LIVID AND WILL NEVER DEAL WITH GM AGAIN FOR SUCH A LOUSY RESPONSE. I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND WHAT IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED WITH THEM IN THE CAR WHILE IT WAS RUNNING. WHILE MAKING A TURN, THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 SATURN ION SUDDENLY WENT OUT. AS A RESULT, I HAD TO STEER THE CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING TO A PARKING LOT AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION TO CHECK UNDER THE HOOD. TURNING THE CAR OFF TEMPORARILY RESOLVED THE ISSUE. *TR
FIRST, MY POWER STEERING WOULD GO OUT. I WOULD TURN OF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON AND IT WOULD BE BACK FOR A SHORT TIME. I TOOK IT IN AND IT WAS FIXED A WEEK OR TWO AGO. NOW, THE IGNITION KEY IS LOCKED IN THE ON POSITION. TO TURN IT OFF I HAVE TO DISCONNECT FUSE 16 AND DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE POWER CABLE. TO TURN IT ON I HAVE TO RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE POWER CABLE AND REINSERT THE FUSE. I WAS ADVISED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SATURN IONS AND NOT RELATED TO THE RECENT WORK THAT WAS DONE ON THE CAR. *TT
I HAVE AN 06 SATURN ION THAT HAS HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH GO OUT ON IT RIGHT AS WE HAVE NO WARRANTY ON IT, OF COURSE. WE CONTACTED SATURN HEAD OFFICE AND TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO THEM THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE A NEED FOR A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. NOT ONLY HAS THE IGNITION SWITCH GONE OUT THE WINDOW TO THE DRIVER SIDE NO LONGER WILL GO UP. WE OWNED THE CAR ONLY TWO DAYS WHEN THE SAME WINDOW FELL OFF THE TRACK FOR NO REASON AND THEY HAD TO FIX IT. MY FATHER ALSO OWNS THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL CAR AND THE WINDOW ON HIS DRIVER SIDE ALSO WENT OUT JUST A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. THERE SEEMS TO BE SEVERAL RECURRING ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT I SEE NOT ONLY ONE PERSON IS HAVING. THEY RECALLED THE OLDER MODEL OF THIS CAR FOR THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION.
