AROUND SAID MILEAGE, THE CAR'S FRONT PASSENGER TURN SIGNAL WENT OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO TELL BY THE FASTER CLICKING OF THE ARROW ON THE DASHBOARD. I REPLACED THE BULB, WHICH ALSO SERVES AS THE DRL IN THIS VEHICLE, AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON, THE BULB FUNCTIONS AS IT SHOULD AND IT APPEARS THERE IS NO OUTAGE HOWEVER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO USE THE TURN SIGNAL, THE LIGHT DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE SERVING AS THE DRLS, THE BULB DOES NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. *TR
ON OR ABOUT 9/12/2012, I WAS DRIVING IN MY SATURN ION GOING 45 MILES AN HOUR, IN HEAVY MORNING TRAFFIC, WHEN IN AN INSTANT MY CAR DECELERATED AND WAS AT A SLOW CRAWL. I COULD NOT GET ANY ACCELERATION EVEN WHEN PRESSING THE GAS. I WAS ONLY A COUPLE BLOCKS AWAY FROM WORK, SO I COASTED UNTIL I GOT THERE. I WAS ALMOST HIT. BUT I COULD NOT GO ANY FASTER. I WAS AFRAID TO TURN OFF THE CAR FOR FEAR THAT IT WOULD NOT START UP AGAIN. I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AND I CALLED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. HENDERSON CHEVROLET LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THAT IT WAS THE COMPUTER MOTHERBOARD OF THE CAR. THIS WAS REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OF $800.00+. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON 11/20/12. THE CAR WENT FROM 30 TO 5 MILES PER HOUR IN A SPLIT SECOND! NO WARNINGS. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT WANT GOING ON WITH IT NOR WHY IT WAS DOING THIS. THEIR SUGGESTION TO ME WAS TO GET ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHAT MY SATURN DID IS THE SAME THING DESCRIBED IN THE IGNITION RECALL. WHEN THIS HAPPENED TO ME , THERE WAS NO RECALL. NO ONE THOUGHT OF LOOKING AT THE IGNITION. WHEN I LOST POWER, MY THOUGHT WAS NOT GEE, MAYBE MY KEYS ARE TOO HEAVY & MY CAR TURNED OFF! ME SEE IF MY IGNITION TURNED OFF WHEN I WENT OVER THAT BUMP. HAD THE RECALL IGNITION PROBLEM HAD BEEN SOMETHING THAT GM WAS AWARE OF AT THE TIME AND NOTICE WAS RECEIVED, THE MECHANIC WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT THIS WAS THE PROBLEM. BUT I REPLACED THE BRAIN OF MY CAR AT $800 WHEN IT WAS NOT NEEDED. NOT WANTING IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN (SAY ON THE FREEWAY), I TRADED IN THE CAR. I FEEL THAT I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE COSTS I PAID TO REPAIR MY VEHICLEWHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF BY THE RECALL. MY EXPERIENCE HAPPENED BEFORE ANYONE KNEW ABOUT THIS KIND OF THING HAPPENING TO THESE VEHICLES. THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE TRADED THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 07/28/14

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, THE VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WAS 86,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EMITTED A STRONG FUEL ODOR. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE FUEL PUMP SUPPLY AREA CRACKED DUE TO DEFECTIVE MATERIAL. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V459000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP). THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 124,002.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED FUEL FUMES WERE EMITTED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL RESERVOIR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 163,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 163,567.
THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING, AND I HAD TO DEAL WITH THE GASOLINE SMELL EVERY TIME THAT I USED MY CAR. I PAID $798.94 TO HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED AT CAR-X IN DES MOINES, WHO FAILED TO TELL ME THAT THIS ISSUE WAS UNDER RECALL. (RECALL ID # 66616, GM RECALL ID # 090226). I AM NOW GOING TO REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS FIX. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THEN THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND ON AS THE STEERING RESET INDEPENDENTLY. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
IGNITION WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WOULD NOT RELEASE TO TURN OFF I SEE THERE IS OTHER VEH. HAVING SAME ISSUES WE NEED THIS FIXED SO WE DON'T RUN INTO MORE PROBLEMS THAT COULD GO WRONG (LIKE NEW MOTORS) CAN'T SHUT OFF MOTORS AND THEN STARTERS GET WORN QUICKLY JUST A THOUGHT. *TR
ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO I STARTED EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH ON MY 2006 SATURN ION 2. THE KEY WOULD GET STUCK IN THERE, OR BE HARD TO PUT IT IN ALL THE WAY BEFORE STARTING THE CAR. AT TIMES THE ENGINE WOULD STAY ON EVEN AFTER KEY WAS OUT AND ALL THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS WOULD ALL COME ON EVEN WHEN THE ENGINE WAS OFF. SUDDENLY MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER (ALL GAUGES DEAD) WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE WARNING LIGHTS. THEY WOULD ALWAYS STAY ON EVEN WHEN CAR WAS OFF AND KEY WAS OUT. LATER, JUST AS SUDDEN THE CLUSTER WORKED FINE AGAIN, ONLY TO DIE A MONTH LATER LEAVING ALL WARNING LIGHTS ALWAYS ON AGAIN. WHILE ALL THIS WAS HAPPENING I WAS STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH THE IGNITION. MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS CAUSING THE CLUSTER TO MALFUNCTION AND EVENTUALLY BURNED IT OUT. BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL ISSUES I WAS UNABLE TO REPLACE THE SWITCH OR THE CLUSTER AT THE TIME. WHEN I RECEIVED THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL LETTER, I TOOK IT TO GET REPLACED AND EXPLAINED THE CLUSTER SITUATION BUT DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPLACE THE CLUSTER AND SAID IT WAS A DIFFERENT ISSUE. FOR MONTHS I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TELL HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE, HOW FAST I'M DRIVING OR THE TEMPERATURE OF THE CAR. IT'S FRUSTRATING AND EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I HAVE STAYED STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILDREN SEVERAL TIMES, BUT GM WILL NOT HELP RESOLVE THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE. *TR
RECENTLY I STARTED SMELLING GAS AROUND MY VEHICLE AND INSIDE MY VEHICLE AFTER IT HAD BEEN SITTING FOR AWHILE. THEN THE CHECK GAS CAP LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, I ALSO NOTICED THE VEHICLE HAS A LITTLE TROUBLE STARTING. I FOUND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V419000 AND RECALL 09226 BOTH OF WHICH EXPLAIN MY ISSUE. MY VIN NUMBER IS INCLUDED IN THE LIST OF AFFECTED VEHICLES IN THE RECALL BUT BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ORIGINALLY SOLD OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN ONE OF THE STATE LISTED IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. HOW CAN LIVING IN ONE STATE AND NOT ANOTHER INFLUENCE A RECALL? SINCE THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE I CAN'T WAIT TO GET THIS FIXED AND WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR ON MY OWN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

ALSO, HE STATED THAT THE FAILURE MIGHT BE RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THE PLASTIC SUPPLY ON THE MODULAR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY HAD CRACKED AND FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE AREA. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SINCE THE CONTACT DID NOT RESIDE IN ONE OF THE STATES SPECIFIED ON THE NOTICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE KEY IS STUCK IN THE ON POSITION IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND WILL NOT COME OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. HAD IT REPAIRED ON 08/28/2012 AND HAPPENED AGAIN ON 10/20/2012. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,910 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 111,000. UPDATED 11/14/12*LJ UPDATED 11/16/2012 *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION FAILED AND AS A RESULT, HE WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT IN ORDER TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE HE HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND THE IGNITION LOCK HOUSING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
RECENTLY, I HAVE NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE IN AND AROUND THE CAR. I SEARCHED THE FUEL LINES TO SEE IF THERE WAS A LEAK AND THERE WAS NOT. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THE GM RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP OF THIS VEHICLE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 09V419000. I CONTACTED GM AND GAVE THEM MY VIN TO SEE IF MY CAR WAS ONE OF THE AFFECTED. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT. I SEE THAT THE RECALL INCLUDES 2006 SATURN IONS IN NORTH CAROLINA, BUT APPARENTLY MY CAR IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE ISSUE WITH MY CAR IS EXACTLY THE SAME LISTED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE DONE MORE RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND OVER 80 OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER SATURN ION OWNERS STATING THAT THEIR CARS ARE DOING EXACTLY THE SAME THING. HOWEVER, THEIR CARS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EITHER. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE AFFECTS A MAJORITY OF THESE MODEL CARS, NOT JUST THE ONES LISTED IN THE RECALL SENT OUT BY GM. *TR
MY 2006 SATURN ION RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED. I NOTICED A RECALL (090226) ON CERTAIN ION VEHICLES FROM THIS YEAR FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE, BUT THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE MY CAR. THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL DESCRIBES WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. I'M HOPING BY NOTIFYING THE NHTSA ABOUT THE FACT THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHER VEHICLES THAT THE RECALL MAY GET EXPANDED AND GM WILL HAVE TO TAKE CAR OF THE PROBLEM FOR OTHER PEOPLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED HE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT HAD TO REMOVE A FUSE IN ORDER TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THE IGNITION CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR THROUGH TOWN WHEN THE DASH SUDDENLY MADE AN ALERT SOUND AND A 'PWR STR' LIGHT CAME ON. MY POWER STEERING INSTANTLY STOPPED WORKING. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A THREE LANE STREET AND IN THE PROCESS OF MERGING LANES, SO THE POWER STEERING FAILURE ALMOST CAUSED ME TO RUN INTO ANOTHER CAR. AFTER I SHUT MY CAR OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN, THE POWER STEERING WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 5 MILES BEFORE THE MESSAGE CAME BACK UP AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED ONCE AGAIN. I DRIVE AT LEAST 15-20 MILES THROUGH THE CITY FOR MY JOB EACH DAY, AND IT'S A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD FOR ME WHEN THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING. IT HAS BEEN FAILING AT LEAST 2 OR 3 TIMES A DAY SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED. I DROVE TO MY PARENTS' HOUSE WHICH IS 80 MILE FROM MY CURRENT HOME, AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED AT LEAST 7 TIMES DURING THE DRIVE. I LOOSE ALMOST ALL OF MY CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE WHENEVER THIS OCCURS, AND I'M VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF THE OTHERS ON THE ROAD NEAR ME. *TR
IGNITION SWITCH WENT BAD, KEYS WERE STUCK IN THE INGITION AND IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF. *TR
THE CAR WAS IN ARIZONA FOR 6 MONTHS (FEB. 2012 THRU AUG. 2012) UPON RETURNING TO ILLINOIS THERE WAS A STRONG GAS SMELL AROUND THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A SHOP AND IT WAS FOUND TO HAVE A CRACK IN THE FUEL PUMP AND IT WAS REPLACED. I READ ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT IT DID NOT LIST 2006 SATURN IONS. I BELIEVE THAT 2006 SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ALSO. DURING MY RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER 2006 MODELS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. IT WAS THE HOTTEST SUMMER ON RECORD AND THE CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE WHILE IN ARIZONA. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 119,892.
WE SMELLED A VERY STRONG FUEL ODOR- VERY PROFOUND, OBVIOUS, CONFIRMED BY TECHNICIAN AT LOCKHART CADILLAC, GREENWOOD, IN. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL OUT, RECALL NUMBER 09V41900. THIS RECALL IS FOR A FAULTY FUEL PUMP PLASTIC ASSEMBLY THAT CRACKS IN EXTREMELY HIGH TEMPERATURES AND INCLUDES SEVERAL WESTERN AND SOUTHERN OR OTHERWISE TRADITIONAL "HOT WEATHER" STATES. GM KNOWS IT IS A PROBLEM BUT BECAUSE I LIVE IN INDIANA THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR BILL. THE MIDWEST HAS EXPERIENCED ON OF THE HOTTEST SUMMERS ON RECORD WHICH IS WHAT CAUSES THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT THE MIDWESTERN STATES SHOULD BE ADDED SINCE THIS IS A POTENTIALLY FATAL PROBLEM IF NOT REPAIRED QUICKLY. AS YOU FULL WELL KNOW A SIMPLE IGNITION SOURCE, A SPARK OR CIGARETTE BUTT, COULD SET THIS OFF. IT WOULD BE IN EVERYONE'S BEST INTEREST TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM FOR OWNERS IN THE MIDWEST. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MERGED OFF ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE.
