TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE FOLLOWED BY A WARNING CHIME. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MOTOR AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE STEERING FAILURES IN THE VEHICLE BUT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE VIN WAS NOT ACCEPTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 36,473.
VIN # [XXX] 2007 SATURN ION HAS A POWER STEERING PROBLEM. THE POWER STEERING MOTOR IS A DEFECTIVE PART AND GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM IN THESE VEHICLES AND THEY AREN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. I HAVEN'T HAD A CRASH OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT YET BUT THE POWERSTEERING JUST GOES OUT WHEN U ARE DRIVING MAKING IT HARD TO TURN OR STEER. MY NAME IS [XXX] MY NUMBER IS [XXX]. I HAVE A 2007 SATURN ION. IT HAS WORKED FINE UP UNTIL ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF AGO (TODAY'S DATE IS JULY 27, 2010). WE WERE DRIVING ON A NORMAL DAY, NO EXCESSIVE HEAT OR COLD, AND THE POWER STEERING JUST WENT OUT. IT COMPLETELY STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING, WITHOUT APPARENT CAUSE. WE WERE ON A HIGHWAY AROUND CARS DRIVING HEAVY SPEEDS, SO WE HAD TO PULL OFF QUICKLY. AFTER STOPPING AND STARTING THE CAR, IT SEEMED TO BE BACK TO NORMAL. WE THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FLUKE. BUT THEN IT HAPPENED ABOUT A WEEK LATER, AND IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY. FOR INSTANCE, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED ABOUT 20 YARDS FROM MY FRONT DOOR YESTERDAY, AND DURING A FIFTEEN MINUTE TRIP, IT WENT OUT THREE TIMES. GIVING IN TO THE FACT THAT THE PROBLEM WAS GETTING MUCH WORSE VERY QUICKLY, I CHECKED ON THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I HAD BOUGHT WHEN I PURCHASED MY CAR. IT COVERED ALL ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, AS I HAD REMEMBERED, BUT UPON FURTHER REVIEW, I REALIZED THAT POWER STEERING WAS LISTED COMPLETELY SEPARATELY, AND IN FACT, WAS NOT COVERED. AT THAT POINT I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH TO SEE HOW COMMON THIS PROBLEM WAS IN SATURN ION'S, AND I HAVE FOUND THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT ONLY OCCURRING IN 2004-2007 ION'S, BUT HAD ALSO OCCURRED IN OTHER GM VEHICLES. THE DIFFERENCE BEING, THAT THOSE OTHER VEHICLES OF SIMILAR MAKE BUT DIFFERENT BRANDS HAVE BEEN RECALLED, BUT SATURN HAS NOT. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF PEOPLE'S LIVES ALMOST BEING LOST DUE TO ACCIDENTS IN WHICH THE STEERING STOPPED AND SENT PEOPLE INTO HEAD-ON TRAFFIC (MUCH LIKE IT DID WITH MY FAMILY), AND YET GM REFUSES TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES. I WISH SOMEONE WOULD ANSWER EVERYONE'S QUESTION OF WHETHER IT IS GOING TO TAKE THE DEATH OF A PERSON OR A FAMILY IN A CRASH DUE TO POWER STEERING FAILURE TO MAKE SOMEONE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS PROBLEM? *TR
POWER STEERING ASSIST FOR 2007 SATURN IONS NEEDED REPLACED. THE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS NOT ON RECALL LIST BUT THIS IS THE SAME UNIT THEY USE IN A NUMBER OF GM CARS THAT AS THE SAME PART ON A RECALL LIST ON MARCH 10,2010. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THEY ALL HAVE GM PARTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WITH A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE IN OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND PROGRESSED OVER A PERIOD OF TIME WHEN TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED. THE FAILURE COULD BE TEMPORARILY CORRECTED WHENEVER THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,500.
2007 SATURN ION. CONSUMER REQUEST THE REPLACEMENT OF A FUEL TANK *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE PAID AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE OF $ 988.05 FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. SHE BELIEVED THE LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE SERVICE PERFORMED WHEN SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A SAFETY RECALL. SHE STATED SHE HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE RECALL THAT SHE RECEIVED IN MARCH 2010. ON JUNE 2, 2010 THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPAIR, SHE HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS A LOUD RUMBLING NOISE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS REPLACED FOR A SECOND TIME AND AN EXHAUST SHIELD WAS SHIFTED. THE CONSUMER THEN TOOK A TRIP. DURING THAT TIME, SHE SMELLED GASOLINE AT TIMES, BUT WAS UNSURE IF IT WAS COMING FROM HER VEHICLE. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE IN A SMALL GARAGE, THERE WAS A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL WITHIN AN HOUR. WHEN THE CONSUMER HAD HER OIL CHANGED, THE TECHNICIAN NOTED THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FUEL AT THE HOSE TO THE TANK AREA AND RECOMMENDED THAT SHE TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THERE WAS A LEAK COMING FROM THE FILLER NECK LEADING TO THE FUEL TANK, AND THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE LEAK OCCURRED ON ONE OF THE OCCASIONS THE FUEL TANK WAS DROPPED FOR THE PREVIOUS FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENTS. *JB
3/4 WINDOWS MOTOR STOPPED FUNCTIONING AT VARIOUS POINTS OF TIME. THE FRONT DRIVER AND TWO REAR PASSENGER WINDOWS ALL DO NOT ROLL DOWN. UPON INSPECTION, THE MOTOR CLICKS AND RECEIVES POWER BUT THE WINDOWS FAIL TO MOVE. *TR
POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON 2007 SATURN ION. 1ST TIME: GOING 30-35 MILES AN HOUR MERGING INTO ANOTHER LANE, ABOUT TO TURN LEFT WHEN STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANAGE AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT FOR THE POWER STEERING CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. 2ND TIME: GOING AROUND 30 MILES AN HOUR, TAKING A SHARP LEFT CURVE WHEN STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO MAKE THE TURN, INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. BOTH INSTANCES CAUSED AN VERY DANGEROUS, UNPREDICTABLE SITUATION. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED A FAILED POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR. NOT COVERED BY RECALL OR WARRANTY. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AND POWER STEERING WARNING CAME ON CAR AND STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP. IT JUST HAPPENED OUT OF NO WHERE. IT NOW HAPPENS EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE IS ON THE ROAD. IT IS A 2007 SATURN ION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE TRAVELING AT 45 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A WARNING CHIME FOLLOWED BY THE ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE POWER STEERING HOSE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN ONE MONTH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
2007 SATURN ION. CONSUMER STATES SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE *TGW THE LOWER FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND FRONT SWAY BAR LINKS HAD TO BE REPLACED ON BOTH SIDES. *JB THE MECHANIC STATED THERE WERE PIECES OF THE CONTROL ARM LAYING ON THE FRAME. UPDATED 11/19/10.*JB UPDATED 11/19/10*JB
THE POWER STEERING MOTOR ON MY 2007 SATURN ION FAILED AT VERY LOW SPEED WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS SAME MOTOR HAS BEEN RECALLED IN THE CHEVROLET COBALT (MECHANICALLY IDENTICAL). THIS RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN EXTENDED TO COVER ALL SIMILAR MODELS BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUES INVOLVED. GM IS ATTEMPTING TO LIMIT ITS MONETARY AND PUBLICITY EXPOSURE. THE NHTSA SHOULD NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS. ALL SAFETY ISSUES SHOULD BE DEALT WITH STRENUOUSLY BY NHTSA. YOUR APPROACH SHOULD BE: IF IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE, GET IT FIXED. PERIOD. *TR
I WILL BE DRIVING, BOTH ON SIDE STREETS AND THE HIGHWAY AND MY POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT WITH NO WARNING. *TR
I DRIVE A 2007 SATURN ION, AND FROM WHAT I CAN TELL ONLINE THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM THAT GM HAS AND IT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED OR RECALLED. I GOT HOME FROM WORK AND WENT TO TURN THE KEY OFF AND IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THE KEY WAS STUCK. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL GM DEALERS AND THEY ALL SAY IT'S A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM BUT STILL EXPECT ME TO PAY AROUND 500 DOLLARS TO FIX IT. I WOULD UNDERSTAND IF THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT IT'S NOT. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS DEFECTIVE AND KNOWN ABOUT. GM EITHER MADE THESE INTENTIONALLY THIS WAY TO SCAM IN MONEY OR REALLY SCREWED UP AND SHOULD FIX IT. THIS COULD OF GONE A LOT DIFFERENTLY WHAT IF THE CAR WOULD OF LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING AND LOCKED OUT THE STEERING WHEEL? SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS AND I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS ALL SATURNS OR JUST THE ION MODEL BUT IT SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING THAT HAS GONE ON FOR SOMETIME. AS TAX PAYERS WE BAILED THEM OUT OF FINANCIAL PROBLEMS AND THIS IS HOW WE ARE REPAID AND TREATED. PLEASE MAKE GM DO A RECALL ON THE SATURN IGNITIONS IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE A 10 MONTH OLD AND STUFF LIKE THIS SCARES ME. *TR
LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS GONE ON BOTH SIDES ONLY HAVE 34,000 MILES ON CAR. *TR
2007 SATURN ION. THE KEY WAS TURNING FUNNY IN THE IGNITION. I THOUGHT THE KEY HAD BENT OR SOMETHING. A COUPLE DAYS LATER THE KEY WILL NOT TURN IN THE OFF POSITION. THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF. WE HAD TO TAKE APART THE STEERING COLUMN TO PULL THE FUSE. THE CAR REMAINS IN THIS CONDITION BECAUSE I AM TOLD IT WILL COST CLOSE TO $500.00 TO FIX. I GOOGLE THIS AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS WEBSITES FILLED WITH THIS SAME COMPLAINT. GM HAS WIPED THEIR HANDS OF THE SATURN. I FEEL THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO SATURN OWNERS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 10 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED FOLLOWED BY THE ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL BUT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HER RESIDENCE WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE DEALER ADVISED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO MAKE THE REPAIR WAS ON BACKORDER. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,333 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,346. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE POWER STEERING STOPPED FUNCTIONING SOON AFTER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALER ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE FOR REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 45,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, FOLLOWED BY THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTIONS AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE VEHICLE BE DIAGNOSED AT THE COST OF $120. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,600.
2007 SATURN ION POWER STEERING FAILURE. HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING. FEELS LIKE THE CAR NO LONGER HAS POWER STEERING ANYMORE. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF, THEN BACK ON, THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. BUT, NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
MY 2007 SATURN ION STEERING LOCKS UP. *TR
I HAVE A SATURN ION 2007 WITH 54433 MILES AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP WENT OUT. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS. BUT THERE IS ON THE COBALT WHICH HAS THE SAME PUMP. *TR
POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DOING 65 ON THE INTERSTATE. *TR
SATURN ION 2007 ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS DEFECTIVE AFTER JUST 37,000 MILES ON CAR. THE POWER ASSIST FAILS ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THIS CAR USES THE SAME TYPE STEERING MODULE AS THE RECALLED CHEVY COBALT AND PONTIAC G5S. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY GM FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE ON THE SATURN ION. *TR
THE POWER STEERING FREQUENTLY GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 SATURN ION REDLINE. DURING NORMAL DRIVING, THE CAR BEEPS, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ON THE DASH GOES ON (PWR STR), AND THE CAR BECOMES VERY HARD TO CONTROL. THE ONLY WAY TO "RESET" THE SYSTEM IS TO STOP THE CAR, SHUT IT OFF, WAIT 30 SECONDS, AND RESTART THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 8-10 TIMES NOW. SIMILAR CARS FROM GM (CHEVY COBALT, PONTIAC G5, ETC) UTILIZE THE SAME PARTS AND HAVE BEEN RECALLED BY GM. HOWEVER, WHEN CONTACTING GM REGARDING THE SATURN ION, THEY STATE THAT FOR THE ION, "THEY HAVEN'T HAD ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO WARRANT A RECALL." THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. LOSING POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING CAN CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL AND MAY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT AND/OR INJURIES AND DEATHS. *TR

S10 DIRECT REPLY LETTER REQUESTING ASSISTANCE WITH DENIED COMPENSATION FROM GM IGNITION COMPENSATION CLAIMS RESOLUTION FACILITY AFTER AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT RESULTING FROM A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH. *SMD 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONSUMER STATED AN ANIMAL RAN ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. WHEN SHE HIT THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF, THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CONSEQUENTLY, SHE RAN INTO A DITCH AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM STATING NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED AS A RESULT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH DEFECT. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED BY THE DEALER, THE CONTACT COMPLAINED OF A NOISE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING AND THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY STIFF AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WHEN RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THIS FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND GOT A PWR STR WARNING ON MY CONSOLE. I NOTICED THAT I HAD LOST MY POWER STEERING. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR EVERYTHING WORKED FINE. I DIDN'T HAVE THE ISSUE AGAIN FOR 3 DAYS, BUT NOW IM HAVING IT 10-15 TIMES A DAY. MY FIANCE IS THE NORMAL DRIVER OF THIS CAR AND DOES NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO STEER AND CONTROL THE CAR WHEN IT LOOSES THE POWER STEERING. SHE HAS ALMOST BEEN IN 3 WRECKS IN THE LAST WEEK RESULTING FROM THIS. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE CHEVY COBALT AND PONTIAC G5 THAT IS TSB 10V073000. THIS IS THE SAME PART AND COMPONENT THAT IS ON THE SATURN ION, BUT IT WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR SOME REASON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEEDS OF 5 MPH THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE WARNING PANEL, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY THE VEHICLE STALLING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE BUT FOUND THERE WAS LIMITED STEERING POWER. THE CONTACT FOUND IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IN APRIL 2010 WHEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY 2007 SATURN ION 3 CAUSING ME TO ALMOST BE IN AN ACCIDENT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING ACTED FINE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO FIND OUT THIS IS A "KNOWN PROBLEM" AND THEY FIXED IT. THEN IN JULY, 3 MONTHS LATER, I HAD A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE AND WAS HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS AGAIN TOLD THIS WAS A "KNOWN PROBLEM" AND THEY FIXED THE GAS PUMP. NOW, I HAVE TERRIBLE GAS MILEAGE AND AM BEING OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. *TR

POWER STEERING COMES AND GOES SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. VERY SCARY WHEN IT GOES OUT ON A CURVE. TOOK IT FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND "27 POINT" INSPECTION AT THE DEALERSHIP, CURIOUS TO SEE IF THEY WOULD NOTICE. THEY CHECKED IT OFF AS GOOD. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT 40,000 MILES. *TR
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IN MY 2007 SATURN ION WILL FAIL RANDOMLY. TO DATE IT HAS FAILED TWICE, ONCE AT 70 MPH DRIVING STRAIGHT AND ONCE AT 55 MPH GOING AROUND A CURVE. THIS PROBLEM FITS RECALL 10V073000 AS THE PARTS AND SYSTEM ARE THE SAME ON EACH CAR.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 SATURN ION ON THE FREEWAY WITH MY TWO GRANDCHILDREN, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, THE STEERING WHEEL WENT TIGHT AND IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND TURN THE CAR BACK ON. THE POWER STEERING WAS RESET AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN. WITHIN MINUTES THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN, I PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE CAR, STARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR IN FEAR THAT THE POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT AGAIN AND LOCK UP. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
2007 SATURN ION. APPROX 54000 MILES. DRIVING ON THE EXPRESS WAY AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING. HEARD SEVERAL DINGS FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I COULD STEER THE VEHICLE WITH MUCH EFFORT. HAPPENED AGAIN AT A SLOWER SPEED, VEHICLE WAS MUCH HARDER TO STEER! GOOD THING IT WASN'T A MILE OR TWO EARLIER WHEN IT WENT OUT, AS I WAS IN A HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AREA WITH NO EMERGENCY LANES! I COULD NOT PULL OVER SAFELY IF I NEEDED TO. I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL I COULD PULL OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF, LOOKED TO SEE IF I COULD SEE A PROBLEM, BUT THIS CAR HAS ELECTRIC STEERING. STARTED THE CAR BACK UP AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY UNTIL THE NEXT DAY.THIS VEHICLE WAS INTENDED FOR MY 18 YR. OLD DAUGHTER TO DRIVE, BUT I DOUBT SHE WOULD HAVE TO STRENGTH TO MUSCLE THE STEERING WHEEL IF IT HAPPENS WHILE SHE IS DRIVING. THIS TO ME WOULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN, AS IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION 2. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING FAILED; THE STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ACCOMPANIED BY A KNOCK FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT SO THAT THE POWER STEERING WOULD FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT BUT THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO RECALL 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 44,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000.

MY 2007 SATURN ION OCCASIONALLY LOSES POWER STEERING. WHEN IT DOES, THE CAR CHIMES 3 TIMES AND DISPLAYS PWR STR ON THE ODOMETER DISPLAY. THIS HAPPENED ONCE LAST MONTH, ONCE YESTERDAY, AND 3 TIMES TODAY. IT SEEMS TO BE TRULY RANDOM, AS I DROVE 80 MILES BEFORE THE FIRST INCIDENT TODAY, ONLY A COUPLE OF MINUTES THE OTHER THREE TIMES, AND 90 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT AFTER THE FINAL OCCURRENCE TODAY. POWER STEERING REMAINS OUT UNTIL I CYCLE THE IGNITION SWITCH. I FOUND THAT I COULD SWITCH TO OFF AND BACK ON QUICKLY ENOUGH TO KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING, AND EVEN THIS BRIEF INTERRUPTION IN POWER WAS ENOUGH TO RESET THE FAULT. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, AS THE CAR IS VERY HARD TO STEER WITHOUT POWER STEERING. I FEAR THAT MY WIFE MAY NOT BE STRONG ENOUGH TO "MUSCLE" THE CAR IN THIS CONDITION. A QUICK INTERNET SCAN INDICATES THAT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL MODEL YEARS, AND OTHER GM CARS WITH IDENTICAL COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN RECALLED, BUT NOT SATURN. PLEASE INSTIGATE A PROMPT INVESTIGATION AND GET THE RECALL GOING FOR THESE SATURN DEFECTS. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A CONTROL MODULE PROBLEM SINCE IT IS SO EASY TO RESET, AND IS NOT RELATED TO THE MOTOR ITSELF OR OVERHEATING, SINCE NO COOLDOWN PERIOD IS REQUIRED TO RESTORE OPERATION. THE GM SOLUTION SEEMS TO BE REPLACING THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN FOR $1200! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR

FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS COMPLETELY MISSING WITH 52,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE, THE WHEELS CAN MOVE UP TO THREE INCHES UNCONTROLLABLY. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY CONCERN FOR THE DEFECTIVE DESIGN OF THESE BUSHINGS. MY DEALER INFORMED ME THEY'VE REPLACED A HUGE AMOUNT OF THESE BUSHINGS...AND KEEP MANY IN STOCK. *TR

THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR. THE FAILURE HAS NOT RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS 64,000.

LAST YEAR,ONE DAY, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL AND THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS BEFORE SATURN DEALER CAME TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION KEY CYLINDER. BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. IT IS SO OFTEN NOW THAT I AM NOT DRIVING MY SATURN. I FEAR THE KEY WILL,ONE DAY, GET STUCK AND NOT COME OUT AT ALL. GMC HAVE BEEN INFORMED. *TR

MY YOUNG DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS CAR AND HAS HAD SOME CLOSE CALLS DUE TO THIS FAILURE, ITS A POTENTIAL DEATH TRAP! START A RECALL NOW BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED ! I NOW HAVE THE CAR PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND MY DAUGHTER IS DRIVING MY WIFE'S CAR CAUSE OF THE RISK OF ACCIDENT POTENTIAL. IN MY INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM IT SEEMS THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE 2003 IN THE SATURN IONS AND THAT THE STEERING MOTOR ETC IS THE SAME AS THE CHEVY COBALT WHICH WAS RECALLED. I URGE YOU TO NOT DELAY AND DO THE RIGHT THING, ISSUE THAT RECALL NOW!!! NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THIS CAR IN REGARDS TO THE PROBLEM AS I CAN NOT AFFORD THE DEALER FIX AND IT WOULD NOT MAKE SENSE TO REPLACE WITH ANOTHER FAULTY MOTOR AND SENSOR SETUP!!! THAT OCCURS ANY TIME AND IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT ON MY 2007 SATURN ION IT HAS THE SAME POWER STEERING ASSIST. WHY IS MY CAR NOT LISTED WHEN IT IS A GM PRODUCT AS WELL WITH THE SAME COMPONENT. *TR
