VEHICLE SHIFTED HARD AND SHUDDERED. THE WAVE PLATE AND PLANETARY GEARS HAD FAILED AFTER ONLY 95K MILES NEEDING A NEW TRANSMISSION. WHILE IT THANKFULLY DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, IT HAD THE POTENTIAL TO. IT DEFINITELY FELT UNSAFE AND SHOULDN'T HAVE FAILED THIS SOON. *TR
WAS SITTING AT STOP LIGHT AND ACCELERATED NORMALLY GOING THROUGH FIRST GEAR WHEN THE TRANNY SLIPPED AND THE RPMS REVVED UP. I STEPPED BACK OFF THE GAS AND WAS ABLE TO GET BACK HOME DOING ONLY 20-25 MPH;WHEN I GOT INTO THE GARAGE, I FOUND I HAD NO REVERSE AND THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY GO UP IN RPMS WITH NO MOVEMENT. I ENTERED A TICKET W/ GM CS THE NEXT MORNING AND CALLED AROUND, LEARNING THE REPAIR JOB WOULD BE $4K-5K BECAUSE OF COURSE, I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO TIME. IT APPEARS THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY, MANY SATURN OWNERS AND GM IS DOING NOTHING TO HELP THE AMERICAN CONSUMER WHEN IT'S CLEARLY OBVIOUS THERE IS A MASS FAILURE OF THE WAVE PLATE. I FINALLY GOT A CALLBACK FROM GM 3 DAYS AFTER I FILED THE COMPLAINT AND THEY 'OFFERED' TO PAY FOR ROUGHLY 25% OF THE COST OF THE REPAIR WITH ME FOOTING THE REST. TOO LATE. I TRADED IT IN YESTERDAY AND WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE TRADE-IN VALUE BUT DIDN'T HAVE MUCH CHOICE. I PLAN ON JOINING ANY LAWSUIT THAT COMES ALONG AGAINST GM IF ONE HITS MY MAILBOX. *TR
WE PURCHASED THIS 2007 OUTLOOK BACK IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR. THE DEALERSHIP GAVE US A SHEET THAT PURPORTED TO INDICATE THAT THE VEHICLE HAD GONE THROUGH A FULL INSPECTION AND WAS CLEAN. WE LIVE IN NORTH FLORIDA AND HAVE HAD A LOT OF RAIN LATELY. EVERY TIME IT RAINS, WATER GETS INTO THE DOORS AND INTO THE VEHICLE ITSELF - WE CAN HEAR IT SLOSHING AROUND IN THE DOORS AND IN THE DASH OF THE VEHICLE - AND THERE WILL BE WATER, AS MUCH AS HALF AN INCH, ON THE FLOORBOARDS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS WREAKING HAVOC WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AND SOMETIMES THERE WILL BE THE SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING. THE FANS, PARTICULARLY IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE, ARE RUNNING INTERMITTENTLY; THERE IS A CRACKLING NOISE THAT COMES THROUGH THE RADIO SPEAKERS EVEN WHEN THE RADIO SYSTEM IS TURNED OFF, AND THERE IS SO MUCH MOISTURE IN THE VEHICLE THAT THE WINDOWS FOG, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE, AND THE FOG IS DIFFICULT TO CLEAR EVEN WITH THE DEFROST SYSTEM BECAUSE IT'S NOT BEING CAUSED BY COOL TEMPERATURES BUT RATHER BY THE MOISTURE IN THE VEHICLE. YESTERDAY, I DROVE IT TO WALMART AND THEN HOME AFTER WORK WITH NO PROBLEMS, PARKED IT IN OUR DRIVEWAY, AND DIDN'T LEAVE THE HOUSE THE REST OF THE DAY; THIS MORNING, WE WENT OUTSIDE, AND WHEN MY HUSBAND PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO START THE CAR, IT WOULDN'T START AT ALL, AND THEN HE COULDN'T GET HIS KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION; WE HAD TO LOCK THE DOORS MANUALLY AND LEAVE IT THERE WITH THE KEYS IN IT. BACK IN JUNE, ONE OF OUR LOCAL NEWS STATIONS REPORTED ON A RECALL OF 194,000 GM SUVS FOR SIMILAR ISSUES WITH WATER LEAKING INTO THE DOORS AND THAT GM WOULD BE CONTACTING OWNERS OF AFFECTED MODELS TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES IN FOR REPAIRS, BUT WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY KIND OF NOTIFICATION FROM GM, AND OURS IS OBVIOUSLY ONE OF THE VEHICLES AFFECTED. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED TO KEEP IN GEAR WHILE TRAVELING ON FREEWAY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. WOULD NOT RE-ENGAGE. LIMPED TO SIDE OF ROAD. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND MECHANIC NOTED INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO FAULTY WAVE PLATE. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 100K MILES, HOWVER 6 YEARS OLD. *TR
AS I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF SECOND GEAR. MADE IT HOME AT A SPEED OF 25-30 MPH. MY CHECK ENGINE CAME ON. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE TORN DOWN AND REPAIRED FOR POSSIBLE BROKEN 3-5-R WAVE PLATE. CAR IS 5 YEARS 10 MONTHS IN SERVICE WITH ROUGHLY 65,000 MILES ON IT. THE COST OF THE REPAIR OR TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WILL BE $3000-$4000. TIMING CHAINS WERE JUST REPLACED IN MARCH OF 2013. I FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN DATED 1/12/2010 THAT STATED NEW PLATE SHOULD BE INSTALLED WHEN TRANSMISSION IS DISASSEMBLED FOR ANY REASON. GM KNOWS IT'S A PROBLEM AND ISN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
WE PURCHASED THIS SATURN OUTLOOK IN MAY OF 2013, IT WAS USED BUT VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. SOON AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THE HEADLIGHTS PERIODICALLY GO OUT. IT IS NOT THE BULB BECAUSE THE BULB COMES BACK ON, BUT IN THE ELECTRICAL WIRING, WE HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS AND COUNTLESS TIMES THE HEADLIGHTS WILL COMPLETELY GO OFF WHILE WE ARE DRIVING! THIS IS FRIGHTENING AND SO VERY DANGEROUS. I KNOW OF OTHER OUTLOOK OWNERS THAT HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM! IT JERKS REALLY HARD AROUND 50-60MPH ABOUT 10 TIMES A WEEK. ABOUT EVERY OTHER DAY, WITHIN THE FIRST QUARTER MILE FROM MY BEGINNING DESTINATION, AND BEFORE REACHING A SPEED OF 30MPH, MY 07 OUTLOOK JERKS REALLY HARD, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, AND IT WILL NOT SHIFT DOWN. *TR
DRIVING ON HWY 377 AND THE CAR STARTED TO GO IN AND OUT OF GEAR. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING FINE BUT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND WE ENDED UP PULLING OVER IN TRAFFIC AS TO NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN GRANDBURY TX WHERE THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT. THE ISSUE IS THE WAVE PLATE AND IT IS QUITE OFTEN DOCUMENTED WHEN YOU SEARCH SATURN ISSUES ON THE INTERNET. THE CAR HAS 78,000 MILES ON IT AND IS OUTSIDE OF THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY FROM GM. THE DEALER SAID THIS REPAIR IS INCREDIBLY COMMON ON THIS MAKE OF GM CARE, IE. OUTLOOK, ACADIA, TRAVERSE, ENCORE. LOOKING UP ON THE VARIOUS FORUMS ON-LINE THIS SAME INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED TO 1000'S OF PEOPLE. I FEEL THAT GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS UNSAFE MECHANICAL ISSUE AND SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR IT SINCE IT IS EFFECTING 1000'S OF PEOPLE AND COULD CAUSE MAJOR ACCIDENTS LET ALONE EXPENSE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE PURCHASED THESE MODELS. *TR
WHEN I WAS PICKING MY SON UP FROM SCHOOL, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T GO MUCH FASTER THEN WHAT I WAS ALREADY DOING, BUT THE RPMS WERE GOING HIGH. IT WAS AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WASN'T SHIFTING GEARS PROPERLY. IF SEEMED LIKE IT WAS IN SECOND OR THIRD GEAR WHEN IT SHOULD BE IN FOURTH OR FIFTH. I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE AND EVERYONE SEEMS TO BE TALKING ABOUT A WAVE PLATE????? IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IT WILL BECOME VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING ON MAIN ROADS (I WAS ON A BACK ROAD TO HIS SCHOOL). WE JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR, IT DOESN'T HAVE A WARRANTY AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX THIS PROBLEM!!! HOW DOES THIS GO ON WITHOUT HAVING A RECALL IF SOOOOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINTS? *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK DOWN THE HIGHWAY, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY RPM'S WENT UP. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO SEE IF THE COMPUTER SYSTEM NEEDED TO RESET. I HAVE HAD A FEW ISSUES WITH THIS CAR AND THAT SEEMS TO BE THE SUGGESTED ANSWER IN THE MANUAL. I STARTED TO CAR AND COULDN'T GO FASTER THAN 40MPH. I TRIED REVERSE AND FOUND THAT I DID NOT HAVE ANY REVERSE AT ALL. *TR
I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I WENT OUT OF TOWN WITH THIS VEHICLE AND HAD TO STOP AT SOME PLACE I DIDN'T KNOW. THEY HOOKED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND OUT IT WAS A CYLINDER MISFIRE. WITHIN THE FIRST 2 WEEKS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN FOUND IT OUT WAS A CYLINDER MISFIRE I TRIED CALLING THE DEALERSHIP AND LETTING THEM KNOW WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE CAR. THE PLACE THAT CHECKED CLEARED THE SERVICE LIGHT. LESS THAN TWO WEEKS LATER WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD NOT CHECK IT BECAUSE THE LIGHT WASN'T ON. IN JULY, A FEW MONTHS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE THAN I HAD THE STABILITY TRACK COME ON AS WELL AS THE BRAKE LIGHT. WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHECKED AND TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT BUT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS HALF EMPTY. THEY PUT SOME BRAKE FLUID IN VEHICLE AND TOLD ME TO GO TO GM. GM TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE MASTER BOOSTER CYLINDER WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE AND TOLD ME IT WOULD BE LIKE ALMOST $700 TO FIX IT. SO LESS THAN TWO WEEKS GO BY AND I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS HAVING A HARD TIME BEFORE THIS WITH THE CAR GETTING SOME GAS. BEGINNING OF AUG, I START DRIVING IT TO CHURCH AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WAS BARELY MOVING. IT WAS IN RPMS OF 4-5 AND I WAS ONLY GOING 60 MPH, TRYING TOO. I HAD MY NIECE AND NEPHEW IN THE CAR AND THEY NEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD BARELY GO IN REVERSE AT THIS TIME. NOW THE CAR WILL NOT GO IN REVERSE AT ALL. THE CAR HAS ONLY 55,654 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND RECALLED. *TR
WIFE CALLED ME AND SAID HER CAR WOULDN'T MOVE - BELT PROBLEM? HAD HEARD CLATTERING AND HIGH PITCHED WHINE EARLIER AND YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WAS ABLE TO START CAR AND SHIFT IT INTO REVERSE AND DRIVE. WE DECIDED TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER - CHAMPION GMC BUICK IN BRIGHTON. GOING UP A HILL NEAR MALTBY INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL, THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL AND SLOW. BLUE SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE ENGINE. STOPPED AT TOP OF HILL. GOT OUT AND INSPECTED ENGINE AGAIN...ACRID BURNING SMELL. WAS ABLE TO LIMP CAR DOWN OTHER SIDE OF HILL AND PARK IN MT. BRIGHTON PARKING LOT AND CALLED AAA TO TOW THE VEHICLE. NO FLAMES DETECTED. DEALER SAID GASKETS TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED, COATING UNDERSIDE OF HOT ENGINE. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BY GM AT 80,000 MILES WITH A NEW GM TRANSMISSION. I KNOW HAVE 156000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AGAIN IN 3RD GEAR. THE TECH IS TELLING ME THAT THERE IS A PLATE IN THERE THAT USUALLY BREAKS ON THESES CARS, TO REBUILD IT IS 2600, OR A NEW TRANSMISSION IS 3500. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 80,000 MILES ON THE NEW TRANSMISSION AND THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING AGAIN. *TR
07 SATURN OUTLOOK TRANSMISSION WAVE PLATE WENT OUT. HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THIS IN OUTLOOK, TRAVERSE, ACADIA. RECALL SHOULD DEFINITELY BE ISSUED, GM IS REALLY SCREWING A LOT OF PEOPLE. *TR
THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHT FLICKERS OFF AND ON AND THEN MIGHT SHUT TOTALLY OFF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD SPORADICALLY FAIL. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE FOG LIGHTS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS AND THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR A SECOND OPINION, WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE POWER BALLAST CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96000 THE CONSUMER RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THE PROBLEM WAS A RESULT OF A FACTORY INSTALLED CHEAPER GRADE WIRING HARNESS WHICH COULD NOT HANDLE THE POWER REQUIREMENT OF THE HID LIGHTS AND WOULD FLICKER AND CUT OFF. HE ALSO LEARNED THAT GM HAD ACQUIRED OR MANUFACTURED A HEAVIER DUTY WIRING HARNESS TO REPLACE THE CHEAPER FACTORY INSTALLED WIRING HARNESS. UPDATED 06/19/14..UPDATED 01/07/15 *BF UPDATED 01/13/15.*JB
MY 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK CONTINUOUSLY LEAKS WATER FROM THE ROOF EVERY TIME IT RAINS. THE LEAKING WATER IS NOT ONE DRIP HERE AND THERE, BUT A GUSH OF WATER WILL COME OUT OF THESE AREAS AND WILL CONTINUE TO LEAK WHILE IT IS RAINING. THE WATER WILL DRAIN OUT OF THE HEADLINER, THE AIRBAG AREAS, THE LIGHT FIXTURES, THE SEAT BELT AREAS ALL IN THE FRONT AND BACK OF THE CAR AND WILL ALSO DRENCH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE FLOOR BOARDS. THIS HAS CAUSED MY CAR TO HAVE A MUSTY MOLDY SMELL TO IT. I FIND IT VERY DISCERNING THAT AFTER YOU PURCHASE A VEHICLE, IT WILL HAVE THESE SAFETY ISSUES SUCH AS WATER LEAKING. I UNDERSTAND THAT THESE THINGS HAPPEN, BUT I AM AFRAID THAT THIS WILL CAUSE A SHORTAGE WITH THE WIRING SYSTEMS IN MY VEHICLE THUS CAUSING EVEN MORE DAMAGE. SINCE THE WATER STARTED LEAKING FROM THE ROOF, I HAVE HAD AIRBAG ISSUES AND WINDSHIELD WIPER ISSUES (IT RUNS CONSTANTLY). I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE TO ANYONE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY IN NEW JERSEY WHEN I NOTICED THE VEHICLE RPM WAS OVER 3000 AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT GOING ANYWHERE I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT, I THOUGHT IT WAS A DREAM I HEARD THE STORIES ABOUT OTHER GM SUV'S HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND HERE I AM, EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AT ONLY 41750MILES , JUST OUTSIDE MY WARRANTY AND STILL PAYING FOR THE VEHICLE .I WAS JUST ABLE TO MAKE IT TO WORK ,THINKING THAT I MUST BE DREAMING EIGHT HOURS LATER I TRIED TO REVERSE THE SUV AND IT WOULD HARDLY MOVE,THE CAR WAS FINALLY DIAGNOSED BY GM WITH A BROKEN WAVE PLATE (SURPRISED! ) AND A TRANSMISSION THAT NEEDED REPLACING WITH A $4000 PRICE TAG .THANK YOU GM FOR STEALING OVER $40000 OF MY HARD EARN MONEY. I WAS IN A TRAFFIC CIRCLE AND MY RPMS REVVED UP HIGH AND THEN DROPPED EVEN THOUGH I WAS ACCELERATING SMOOTHLY. I COULD NOT GO FASTER THAN 20MPH. THIS WAS A SUDDEN PROBLEM, WITH LITTLE TO NO WARNING. AFTER GETTING ONTO A LESS BUSY ROAD, I DROVE SLOWLY AS THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. THE RPMS KEPT GOING UP AND DOWN. I PULLED INTO A BUSINESS TO GET OFF THE ROAD. I TRIED TO SEE IF RESTARTING THE CAR WOULD HELP. THE VEHICLE STARTED FINE BUT THERE WAS NO REVERSE. SINCE I WAS NOW STUCK IN THE DRIVEWAY, I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK, WHICH TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED THE WAVE PLATE (KNOWN ISSUE) OR THE TRANSMISSION (KNOWN ISSUE). THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT-CAUSING ISSUE IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY OR IF THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE HAD BEEN MUCH BUSIER. I USE THIS VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO THIS KNOWN PROBLEM AT +/- 100K FOR THIS VEHICLE. WITH MORE AND MORE OF THEM APPROACHING THIS MILEAGE EVERY YEAR... *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED. SO WHEN I DECIDED TO DRIVE IT. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT IN TO GEAR PAST 20 MILES AND HOUR. THEY ARE CHARGING ME FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR $2200.00. I STATED TO HIM, I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CARS THERE IS NO WAY THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD HAVE STARTED SLIPPING SO SOON. THIS VEHICLE HAD SO MANY ISSUES AND IT IS TOO SOON FOR ME TO TRADE IT IN. BUT IF I COULD I WOULD. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD IT WOULDNT SWITCH OUT OF 2ND GEAR. THE FASTER I WOULD GO THE HIGHER THE RPMS. I STOPPED THE CAR AT SEVERAL STOP SIGNS AND TRIED TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO THE L POSITION AND MANUALLY SHIFT THE GEARS IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF D. I WAS ABLE TO CREEP BACK HOME IN SECOND GEAR WITH THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE GM REPAIR SHOP THAT HAS ALWAYS SERVICED THIS VEHICLE ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THOUGH THE WAVE PLATE WAS REPLACED APPROX A YEAR AGO. THE PARTICULAR ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE WHICH IS SOME SEAL ON THE BACK OF THE MODULE TO HOLD THE PRESSURE IS NO LONGER COVERED AND IT WILL BE A NEARLY $1300 REPAIR!!! ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THIS IS A RECALLED PART ON SEVERAL MODELS FROM THE GM BRAND BUT IT IS NOT RECALLED ON MY 2007 OUTLOOK! IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM I REALLY THINK IT WOULD BE RIGHT FOR GM TO FIX THIS PART APPARENTLY IT IS AN ISSUE ON THE 2007 AS WELL! I AM SO DISAPPOINTED WITH GM RIGHT NOW. I HAVE A 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK, SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR, THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. IN 2011, AFTER 2 REPAIRS, A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN. 34,000 MILES LATER THE TRANSMISSION WENT AGAIN. I HAVE A 5 YEAR OLD CAR THAT HAS HAD 2 TRANSMISSIONS AND 7 REPAIRS AND THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT HONOR THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY. TODAY AFTER SPEAKING WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR THE 5TH TIME, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD ONLY ASSIST ME PARTIALLY WITH THE REPAIR. I ASKED FOR A BILL W/ DETAIL ON PARTS AND LABOR, WHAT WAS DONE ON THE LAST REPAIR THAT WENT WRONG AND WHAT THE TOTAL COST WOULD BE FOR THIS REPAIR, INCLUDING ALL PARTS AND LABOR CHARGES. NOW AT 4 DAYS LATER I HAVE NO INFORMATION, NO CAR, AND NO RESTITUTION. ORIGINAL OWNER. TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 76K MILES. POWERTRAIN ORIGINALLY WARRANTED FOR 5 YEARS/100K MILES. HOWEVER, SINCE THE VEHICLE JUST OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY TIMEFRAME (NOT MILES), THE COST WAS $3500 REBUILD FROM DEALER. BASED ON INTERNET RESEARCH THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH 2007, 2008, 2009 OUTLOOK AND ACADIA DUE TO "WAVE PLATE" FAILURE. (NOT CLEAR WHETHER THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH OUR VEHICLE SINCE WE DID NOT REPAIR.) ALTHOUGH WE WERE HAPPY WITH VEHICLE UNTIL THIS ISSUE, WE ELECTED TO TRADE IN VEHICLE AT A LOSS (DUE TO ISSUE DISCLOSURE) FOR A NON-GM PRODUCT SINCE INTERNET BULLETIN BOARDS INDICATE THAT TRANSMISSION REBUILDS NOT RELIABLE IN LONG TERM FOR THIS MODEL. *TR
MY HUSBAND HAD LEFT TO TAKE OUR KIDS TO SCHOOL ON MARCH 8, 2013. HE SAID WHEN HE PULLED OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR. IT WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 15 MPH. WE WERE PLANNING TO TAKE THIS VEHICLE ON A WEEKEND TRIP TO THE MOUNTAINS (4 HOUR DRIVE ONE WAY). HE TURNED AROUND AND CAME HOME TO GET HIS VEHICLE TO TAKE THE KIDS TO SCHOOL. WE DECIDED IT WAS NOT A GOOD IDEA TO TRY TAKING THE SATURN TO THE MOUNTAINS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WE WENT TO ADVANCED AUTO PARTS TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT. IT SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT SOLENOID WAS FAULTY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. WE WERE HOPING IT WAS JUST A FLUKE. LESS THAN 2 WEEKS LATER, MARCH 20, 2013 I WAS DRIVING THE SATURN ON MY LUNCH BREAK AND WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT (WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN) IT WOULD NOT SHIFT UP. AND WAS STUCK IN 1ST GEAR. LUCKILY I NAVIGATED ACROSS THE DOUBLE LANE TRAFFIC INTO A PARKING AREA AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR A MINUTE AND STARTED IT BACK AND THEN IT DID FINE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AND WE CONTACTED A GM DEALER THAT HAD WORKED ON IT JUST MONTHS BEFORE FOR AN OIL LEAK AND THEY WANTED TO LOOK AT IT THE VERY NEXT DAY. ONCE THEY LOOKED AT IT THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT MODULE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT IT WOULD COST $1237.00. MY SATURN ONLY HAS 85,000 MILES ON IT. IT SHOULD NOT BE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE WARRANTY JUST WENT OUT ON IT ON JULY 31, 2012, SO OF COURSE GM WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR. I HAVE SEEN THAT THIS PROBLEM IS HAPPENING ALOT WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THANKFULLY BOTH TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED WITH OUR VEHICLE WE HAVE BEEN IN LIGHT TRAFFIC ALTHOUGH IT IS A VERY SCARY SITUATION WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM BULB WAS OUT. BOUGHT REPLACEMENT BULBS BUT NONE OF THEM WORKED. INSPECTED HARNESS AND IT APPEARS THAT THE CONNECTOR IS MELTED/DAMAGED SOMEHOW. *TR
MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTING SHUTTERING DURING ACCELERATION. THE RPMS WOULD INCREASE WITHOUT VEHICLE ACCELERATIONS AND SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK WITH ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO OPERATE AND MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TRIP. THE PROBLEM WAS OBVIOUSLY RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN I DELIVERED THE VEHICLE TO THE TRANSMISSION CLINIC (COLORADO SPRINGS) THE TRANSMISSION GUY TOLD ME WHAT THE SYMPTOMS WERE AND THE PROBLEM. I DIDN'T HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING. HE EVEN QUOTED ME AN ACCURATE ESTIMATE OF THE REPAIR WITHOUT LOOKING AT ANYTHING YET. IT COST ME $3200 FOR A VEHICLE WITH 84,000 MILES ON IT. THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE LETTERS AND SERVICES FOR THE WINDSHIELD WASHER HEATER, THE AIR BAG SENSORS AND THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUE. *TR
MY 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK SUFFERED COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT ONLY 59,700 MILES. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ACROSS TOWN AT A RATE OF 25 MPH. CAR HAS BEEN BABIED SINCE WE GOT IT. BASICALLY AN ALL-WHEEL DRIVE MINI-VAN. NO OFF-ROAD ACTIVITIES. DID NOT USE IT TO PULL ANY TRAILERS OR OTHER VEHICLES. WAS A GREAT CAR UNTIL THIS OCCURRED. WARRANTY EXPIRED IN SEPT. OF 2012. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT THE "WAVE PLATES" HAD BROKEN AND CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. I AM NOT A MECHANIC AND DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT CARS, BUT I CONTACTED GM AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A CERTIFIED GM REPAIR SPECIALIST. SO, I HAD IT TOWED AGAIN TO A GM REPAIR SHOP AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE WAVE PLATES THAT HAD FAILED. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE WAVE PLATES WERE A UNIVERSAL PROBLEM FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR - THEY HAD REPAIRED NUMEROUS VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE... ALL TRANSMISSION FAILURES AT OR BEFORE 75,000 MILES. IN THEIR OPINION THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE PART AND THEY THOUGHT GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. NO CAR SHOULD HAVE A COMPLETED TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON A VEHICLE THAT EARLY! GM CONTACTED THE REPAIR SHOP I WAS WORKING WITH AND INFORMED THEM THAT BECAUSE MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, THE BEST THEY COULD DO WAS TO OFFER ME A "CO-PAYMENT" OF $1500 TO "REPAIR" THE TRANSMISSION. IF I WANTED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE FULL COST OF $4500 OUT OF POCKET. I OPTED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPAIRED FOR $1500. I FELT IT WAS MY ONLY OPTION. CASH IS TIGHT AND $4500 OUT OF POCKET IS WAY TOO MUCH FOR WHAT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE PART. I DID NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING AT ALL - GM BUILT A BAD VEHICLE. THESE VEHICLES SHOULD ALL BE RECALLED AND THE WAVE PLATES SHOULD ALL BE REPLACED - AND ALL OF IT SHOULD BE ON GM'S TAB. SO, NHTSB, DO YOUR JOB ... PUT PRESSURE ON GM AND GET THE RECALL IN PLACE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME ON HIGHWAY WITH KIDS AND WENT TO ACCELERATE AND SUV WOULD NOT GO FASTER. LUCKILY, I WAS CLOSE TO EXIT AND ABLE TO GET OFF RIGHT AWAY. THE SUV WOULD NOT GO FASTER THAN 25MPH SO I WAS ABLE TO LIMP HOME THE FINAL 3 MILES. ONCE HOME THE SUV WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE OR ANY HIGH GEARS. ONLY WORKS IN FIRST GEAR AT 25MPH AND RPMS AT 4000. THE CHECK EMISSION SYMBOL IS LIT ON THE DASH. RESEARCHING THIS ON INTERNET SEEMS MAJOR PROBLEM WITH WAVE PLATE BROKE AND REQUIRES NEW TRANSMISSION. *TR

THE CONTACT MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT FRONT BOLTS WERE LOOSE AND THE DRIVE SHAFT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THERE WERE TWO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBERS: 10024227 (POWER TRAIN ) AND 10042291 (POWER TRAIN ) BUT NO RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,170.

MY 2007 OUTLOOK WHEN I WAS 70 MILES FROM HOME STARTED ACTING FUNNY. I WENT TO GET ON THE INTERSTATE WHERE PEOPLE ARE RUNNING 75 MPH AND I GOT TO 40 MPH OFF THE OFF RAMP AND IT WOULDN'T SHIFT IT WAS RUNNING ABOUT 4000 RPM, I SLOWED DOWN MOVED TO THE SHOULDER. HAD MY HUSBAND COME PICK US UP, IT WAS 20DEGREES OUT. HE DROVE IT FOR A FEW DAYS, TOOK IT BY TRAILER TO AN AUTO SHOP AND THE WAVE PLATE IN THE TRANSMISSION WAS BROKE. AS I HAVE HEARD MANY OF THE SAME ISSUES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION.$ 2700 LATER MY CAR I HAVE OWNED FOR 11 MONTHS NOW HAS A NEW TRANSMISSION. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUT A NEW TRANSMISSION IN AT 74,000 MILES. THIS WAS SCARY AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED, WE EASILY COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY A CAR GOING 75 MILES AN HOUR. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS, BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVERS SIDE, ON MY 2007 OUTLOOK HAVE STARTED EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT OPERATION. ONE OR BOTH SIDES WOULD GO OUT UNDER JUST ABOUT ANY CONDITION; PARKED, DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, ETC. THE FAILURE COMES AND GOES. IF A HEADLIGHT GOES OFF IT CAN BE MADE TO COME BACK ON BY CYCLING THE HEADLIGHT CONTROL SWITCH SO THE AUTOMATIC CONTROL IS TURNED OFF THEN BACK ON AGAIN. YOU CAN ALSO GET THE HEADLIGHT TO COME BACK ON BY PLACING THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN MANUAL ON. LEAVING THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN MANUAL ON DOESN'T STOP THEM FROM GOING OFF. LAST NIGHT I WAS DRIVING AT DUSK AND BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. THIS HAS TURNED FROM A MAJOR ANNOYANCE TO A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER HOUR ON THE ROAD, THE CAR SUDDENLY DECELERATED TO 25 MILES PER HOUR AND WOULD ACCELERATE PAST 25 MPH. WE THEN DROVE 25 MPH IN PRIMARILY 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT ROADS BACK HOME. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE LESS THAN 10 MILES FROM OUR HOME. THE CAR WILL NOT DRIVE IN REVERSE EITHER. *TR
IT WAS RAINING (WHICH IS VERY COMMON IN MY STATE). I SLOWED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. HALF WAY THROUGH MY TURN, MY STEERING FAILED. I COULD NOT COMPLETELY TURN MY WHEEL TO MAKE A SAFE/LEGAL TURN. THANKFULLY I TURNED ONTO A 4 LANE ROAD, AS I ENDED UP IN THE LEFT LANE. HAD IT BEEN JUST A 2 LANE ROAD, I WOULD HAVE SLAMMED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC! I WAS NOT DRIVING RECKLESSLY, I SAFELY SLOWED DOWN AS I APPROACHED MY TURN AND DURING MY TURN, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHAT SAVED MY FAMILY'S LIVES AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. HAD I BEEN GOING FASTER, I PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP, AND TO MY SURPRISE, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH SATURN OUTLOOKS. WHAT WAS EVEN MORE MIND BOGGLING WAS THE FACT THAT IT IS NOT CURRENTLY A SAFETY RECALL. THEY MADE ME FEEL LIKE IT WAS NOT SAFE FOR ME TO EVEN DRIVE MY VEHICLE ANYMORE AND MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO "UPGRADE WHEEL WELL LINERS." I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ONLINE, AND SOME PEOPLE HAVE EVEN STATED THAT AFTER UPGRADING THEIR LINERS, THEY STILL ENCOUNTER THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM WORRIED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. WE PULLED UP TO AN INTERSECTION, STOPPED, AND WHEN WE TRIED TO PROCEED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE ENGINE WOULD REV BUT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT HOOK UP. SUNROOF STARTED LEAKING AND LEAKED INTO THE FUSE BOXES AND CAUSE THE FUSE BOX AND WIRES TO CORRODE WHICH CAUSED THE CAR TO NOT SHUT OFF COULD DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TAKE THE KEY OUT AND IT WOULD STILL RUN. *TR
WAS DRIVING AND CAME TO STOP. AS I STARTED TO ACCELERATE CAR DID NOT EXCEED 25 MILES PER HOUR. VEHICLES STARTED GOING AROUND ME. GOT HOME AND CHECKED FLUID LEVELS RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY... ADDED FLUID TEST DROVE CAR, STILL NOT GO OVER 25 MILES PER HOUR, TOOK TO DEALER. HAD JUST PURCHASED VEHICLE 8/31/12. DEALER STATES IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WILL CHARGE $500 TO TAKE OUT TRANSMISSION AND DO DIAGNOSTIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A MECHANIC OR THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 133,000.
STARTED CAR AFTER WORK, RIGHT HEADLIGHT DID NOT COME ON. TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP, HAD IT REPLACED, $165. TWO WEEKS LATER LEFT HEAD LIGHT WENT OUT. A WEEK AFTER, RIGHT HEADLIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN. TOOK CAR INTO SHOP AND PAID DOUBLE FOR BOTH TO BE REPLACED. ONE MONTH LATER LEFT HEADLIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN. WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT HARNESS FOR HEADLIGHT HAD MELTED AND NEEDS REPLACING AS WELL. HAVE INVESTED ALMOST $700 IN HEADLIGHT REPAIR IN 12 WEEKS. *TR
DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 35 MPH AND HAD LOSS OF POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT WITH ONLY 47,918 MILES ON IT AT A COST OF 4000.00 DOLLARS. *TR
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. FORTUNATELY TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT, AND I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. DEALER ADVISED FLUID PRESSURE SWITCH/TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ONE YEAR PREVIOUS, TRANSMISSION WAVE PLATES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
1ST INCIDENT: 10/02/2011 I WAS MERGING ON TO THE HIGHWAY, WHEN I NOTICED MY HEADLIGHTS BECAME DIM. I NOTICED BY THE REFLECTION ON THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME THAT MY DRIVER SIDE HEADLAMP WAS OUT SO I STOP TO BUY A SET OF REPLACEMENT BULBS. AS I GOT IN THE CAR TO GO HOME FROM THE AUTO PART STORE, I NOTICED THE DRIVERSIDE HEADLAMP HAD CAME BACK ON. 2ND INCIDENT: 10/20/2011 AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, I NOTICED DRIVER SIDE HEADLAMP FLICKER AND GO OUT. I FIGURE IT WAS A BLOWN BULB BUT I TURNED THE HEADLAMPS SWITCH OFF AND BACK ON, AND THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLAMP CAME BACK ON. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT WILL WORK FOR AWHILE BUT THEN IT WILL GO OUT. THE LIGHT WILL START WORKING AGAIN (AT LEAST TEMPORARILY) I CAN SWITCH FROM THE "AUTO" LIGHT SETTING TO "MANUAL" AND BACK AGAIN AND IT COMES ON FOR A MOMENT THEN GOES BACK OUT. I HAVE READ ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT WEBSITES THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CAUSE BEING THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE LIGHTS. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE PARTS/MATERIALS USED AND SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON IT. I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY WHAT THE DEALERSHIP IS ASKING TO REPAIR IT, MY SON WON'T EVEN RIDE WITH ME AT NIGHT B/C HE'S SO AFRAID WE WILL BE STOPPED AND GET A TRAFFIC TICKET. PLEASE HELP! *TR
