WE BOUGHT THE CAR IN APRIL, AND BY JULY I ALREADY HAD TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED TWICE AND REPAIRED ONCE. IT CRACKS IF BARELY ANYTHING HITS IT.
I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL ON A BYPASS AND A WORK TRUCK KICKED UP A ROCK THAT HIT ME WINDSHIELD, NOTHING HAPPENED THEN, I CHECKED HOURS LATER AND IT TURNED INTO A SMALL CRACK, A FEW DAYS LATER THAT SMALL CRACK TURNED INTO A BIG CRACK THAT GREW THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD AND IS IN FIELD OF VISION
WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED WITHOUT BEING STRUCK BY ANYTHING. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A STATE HIGHWAY WITH NO OTHER VEHICLES IN MY LANE. THE CRACK INITIATED FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND WAS APPROXIMATELY 24 IN LONG, ACROSS THE DRIVERS FIELD OF VISION. I FILED A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE AGENCY TO HAVE IT REPLACED AND SPENT $500 OUT IF POCKET.
I WAS DRIVING LAST SUMMER IN NEW JERSEY ON A TWO-WAY ROAD. I HEARD A SLIGHT CRACK SOUND. THE WINDSHIELD BEGAN TO FORM A CRACK FROM THE LOWER-LEFT CORNER OF MY WINDSHIELD AND SLOWLY SPREAD TOWARD THE CENTER. THERE WERE NO CARS NEAR ME SO I KNEW ANOTHER CAR COULD NOT HAVE KICKED UP A STONE. I PARKED AND LEFT THE CAR FOR AROUND ONE HOUR. WHEN I RETURNED, THE CRACK HAD SPREAD FURTHER ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD.
A MONTH AFTER FIRST WINDSHIELD CRACK REPLACEMENT, WHICH SUBARU COVERED AS A GESTURE OF 'GOOD WILL' WITHOUT ACKNOWLEDGING THE OBVIOUS ISSUE, MY SECOND WINDSHIELD CRACKED. THIS TIME I WAS NOT EVEN DRIVING. CAR WAS PARKED IN TEMPERATE SAN FRANCISCO PARKING LOT. THE CRACK WAS EXACTLY THE SAME A FIRST ONE (SOME ODDS I HAVE TO BE AT FAULT FOR TWO INVISIBLE IMPACT POINTS IN THE SAME EXACT AREA, I SHOULD PROBABLY BUY A LOTTERY TICKET!). NO IMPACT POINT (EXCEPT TO DRAG A BALL POINT PEN UP THE LINE AND STICK IT INTO THE SAME SPACE THAT THE FIRST SPOT STUCK). CRACK STRAIGHT UP FROM DEFROSTER IN MIDDLE OF WINDSHIELD AND CURVED TOWARD THE PASSENGER SIDE. BROUGHT IT IN TO THE SAME SERVICE MANAGER WHO SAID THERE IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH THE SEAM OR THE GLASS. MIRACULOUSLY, HIS STATEMENT WAS NOT SENT TO CORPORATE AND HE NO LONGER WORKED THERE WHEN I CALLED TO FOLLOW-UP ON WHY I HADN'T HEARD BACK. I HAVE PICTURES OF BOTH AND THEY ARE THE SAME. IRONICALLY, AFTER BRINGING IT BACK IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC LOOK BY ANOTHER MANAGER, MY WINDSHIELD WAS ACTUALLY HIT BY A ROCK TWO DAYS LATER. THIS IMPACT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE OTHER TWO. IT ACTUALLY HAS A POINT OR ORIGIN WITH THE SPIDER EFFECT ONE EXPECTS FROM A ROCK HITTING THE WINDSHIELD.
VERY SMALL ROCK HIT WINDSHIELD WHILE ON HIGHWAY, CAUSING TINY CHIP NEAR THE DRIVER'S A PILLAR. WITHIN 24 HOURS THE WINDOW HAD CRACKED ACROSS THE LENGTH OF THE WINDSHIELD, NECESSITATING REPLACEMENT. I HAVE A PHOTO. I BELIEVE THE RESULTING DESTRUCTION OF THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD DUE TO A VERY SMALL CHIP IS PREPOSTEROUS AND SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED.
WINDSHIELD ARE EASILY CRACK BY DEBRIS ON THE ROAD. AND SAT IN THE SON, IT WILL CRACK. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND A CAR FLICK A ROCK FROM ROAD (CONSTRUCTION AREA) AND HIT MY WINDSHIELD AND IMMEDIATELY CRACKED. ALSO PRIOR TO THE ROCK CHIP, MY CAR WAS PARKED AT WORK AND WHEN I CAME OUT TO SIT IN MY CAR ON MY BREAK, I NOTICE THERE IS A LONG LINE ON WINDSHIELD AND THERE'S A LINE CRACK
IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS I HAVE HAD TWO WINDSHIELDS SPONTANEOUSLY FRACTURE ONE WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE OTHER WHEN GARAGED.
SOMETHING HIT THE EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND IT CRACKED OVER HALF WAY TO THE DRIVERS SIDE. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IT ON NB I65 NORTH OF MOBILE, ALABAMA. THE WINDSHIELD HAD SEVER PITS IN IT NOT SURE WHAT THOSE WERE CAUSED BY. SUBARU MAKES MONEY AS THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CALIBRATED AFTER A NEW WINDSHIELD IS INSTALLED. ONE CRACK HAD BEEN REPAIRED ON 2/4819 MILEAGE WAS 6330
ON THE 10TH OF JULY WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, I WATCHED A CRACK COME DOWN FROM ABOUT 4 INCHES FROM THE TOP OF THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD, TO DOWN JUST BELOW THE REAR VIEW MIRROR HEIGHT AND THEN CONTINUE ALL THE WAY OVER TO MY SIDE (DRIVERS SIDE). A SOUND OF SOMETHING HITTING THE WINDSHIELD WAS NEVER HEARD! ONLY WHEN I EXAMINED THE WINDSHIELD FROM OUTSIDE COULD YOU SEE A VERY MINUTE CHIP WHICH SHOULD HAVE NEVER CAUSED THIS DAMAGE! THIS WINDSHIELD GLASS IS SO THIN THAT I'M AFRAID IF SOMETHING BIGGER HITS IT, IT WILL COME THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD! THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS! A VERY EXPENSIVE OEM WINDSHIELD (AND CALIBRATION) IS REQUIRED AS A REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE EYESIGHT CAMERAS. WHY AN AFTER MARKET WINDSHIELD AN CALIBRATION CAN'T BE USED I DON'T KNOW? SOMETHING UP?
WINDSHIELD CRACKS AND DAMAGES EASILY. A SMALL ROCK HIT MY WINDSHIELD AT A VERY LOW SPEED BUT SOMEHOW HAS DAMAGED AND CRACKED THE WINDSHIELD. I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD OUT OF MY OWN POCKET.
MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED ACROSS THE ENTIRE SURFACE IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS OF BEING HIT WITH A SMALL ROCK IN THE CORNER OF MY BRAND NEW 2019 FORRESTER
VEHICLE QUICKLY DEVELOPED A "SURGE, SPUTTERING, JERK" TYPE ACTION WHEN COASTING OR MAINTAINING SPEEDS ABOVE 35MPH. ALSO WHEN BRAKING, THERE IS GOOD AND PREDICTABLE SPEED REDUCTION UNTIL ABOUT 10MPH WHEN THE TRANSMISSIONS SEEMS TO UNLOCK AND THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD SINCE THERE IS SUDDENLY NOT ENOUGH BRAKE PRESSURE BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION HAS SHIFTED FOR SOME REASON. DEALER HAS BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE BUT HAS NO KNOWN FIX. BRAND NEW CAR 1 MONTH OLD AND IT RUNS LIKE A BRAND NEW CAR SHOULD, UNTIL YOU GET TO MAINTAINING CRUISING SPEEDS. VERY DISAPPOINTING TO HAVE THIS ONE ISSUE WITH SOMETHING THAT IS OTHERWISE A FANTASTIC CAR.
WITHIN A YEAR OR USE MY WINDSHIELD UNEXPECTEDLY APPEARED CRACKED ONE DAY IN PARKING POSITION.
THE WINDSHIELD SEEMS TO BE EXCEEDINGLY WEAK. IN THE LITTLE OVER A YEAR OF OWNING THE VEHICLE I HAVE HAD 2 CRACKS IN MY WINDSHIELD AND 3 CHIPS . THESE HAVE OCCURRED ON A HEAVILY TRAFFICKED HIGHWAY THAT IS CLEAR OF DEBRIS . I HAVE OWNED OLDER SUBARUS BEFORE AND HAVE NEVER HAD A WINDSHIELD CRACK OR CHIP.
BOTTOM PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD CRACKED ACROSS GLASS. GREW FAST AND STILL GROWING ACROSS TO DRIVERS SIDE. DID NOT SEE ANYTHING HIT IT. WAS DRIVING AND JUST HEARD POP OF GLASS AND CRACK. NO STAR JUST CRACK FROM CORNER UNDER WIPER.
PRIMARILY DRIVER'S SEAT IS NOT COMFORTABLE. BACK PAIN STARTS ALREADY AFTER 30 MIN DRIVE, GET LEGS CRAMPS WHEN YOU STEP OUT OF THE CAR. SEAT CONFIGURATION DOES NOT ALLOW TO ADJUST IT FOR COMFORTABLE SEATING POSITION DUE TO POOR DESIGN. FORESTER 2019 HAS THE MOST ADJUSTABLE SEATS FROM ALL SUBARU LINE, BUT LOOKS LIKE WORSE CONFIGURATION OVERALL. ALL EXISTING ADJUSTMENTS STILL DO NOT ALLOW TO SEAT COMFORTABLY EVEN FOR A PRETTY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. IF YOU TRY TO SUPPORT THE BOTTOM PART OF THE BACK, THEN UPPER PART IS NOT TOUCHING THE SEAT AND IN CASE OF REAR ACCIDENT INJURY CHANCES ARE HIGHER THAN AVERAGE. IF YOU ADJUST TO SUPPORT UPPER PART, THEN LOWER PART DOES NOT HAVE ANY SUPPORT AND BACK HURTS ALREADY AFTER 5-10 MIN DRIVE.
WINDSHIELD QUALITY - 2019 SUBARU FORESTER SPORT WINDSHIELD CHIP VERY EASY. CAR PARKED ON DRIVEWAY AND IT WAS HAILING FOR 2 MINUTES; COUPLE TINY CHIPPED/PITTED WERE FOUND ON WINDSHIELD; NO CRACK. THIS ONLY HAPPEN TO THE SUBARU, BUT NOT THE OTHER VEHICLES I OWNED (VOLVO AND HONDA). SUBARU WINDSHIELD CHIP/PITTED EASILY ON VEHICLE WITH EYE SIGHT EQUIPPED. THE WINDSHIELD SEEMS THINNER COMPARE TO OLDER MODEL AND OTHER VEHICLE BRANDS. THIS ISSUE ALSO APPLIED ON HIGHWAY DRIVING AS ANY TINY OBJECT WILL CAUSE CHIPPED ON WINDSHIELD EASILY WHERE THIS DOES NOT APPLIED ON OTHER VEHICLES. REPLACEMENT IS EXPENSIVE AS WINDSHIELD HAS TO BE SUBARU CERTIFIED OTHERWISE EYE SIGHT WILL NOT WORK. FURTHERMORE, EYE SIGHT CALIBRATION IS AN ADDITIONAL COST ON TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT AND IT IS NOT COVER BY DEALERSHIP WINDSHIELD WARRANTY PACKAGE.
WHILE DRIVING ON EMPTY HIGHWAY AT APPX 55MPH, WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED. CRACK EXTENDS FROM THE EDGE OF THE PASSENGER SIDE ABOUT 15 INCHES. NO ROCK OR OTHER FOREIGN OBJECT HIT THE WINDSHIELD. CAR IS 5 WEEKS OLD WITH 1,070 MILES.
AS OTHERS HAVE REPORTED, THE WINDSHIELD QUALITY IS SUSPECT. CAR WAS ONLY A MONTH OLD WITH LESS THAN 700 MILES WHEN A LARGE HORIZONTAL CRACK APPEARED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED IN A PARKING LOT. NO VISIBLE SIGNS OR EVIDENCE OF IMPACT FROM A FOREIGN SOURCE. HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN IN PREVIOUS CARS IN OVER 20 YEARS OF DRIVING. WHAT MAKES MATTERS WORSE IS THAT AN EXPENSIVE OEM WINDSHIELD (AND CALIBRATION) IS REQUIRED AS A REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE EYESIGHT CAMERAS.
IN JUNE 2019, 2 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED MY 2019 SUBARU FORESTER, A VERY SMALL ROCK HIT THE BOTTOM OF MY WINDSHIELD AND IMMEDIATELY CRACKED THE WINDSHIELD 6 INCHES, WHICH IS ABOVE THE LEGAL ROCK CHIP REPAIR LENGTH. SO I WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. I WAS ON THE I-15 FREEWAY DIVING 80 MILES PER HOUR, THE LEGAL SPEED LIMIT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE LOCAL HIGHWAY IN GREENSBORO SUNDAY JUNE 16TH, WHEN A SMALL PEBBLE FLEW UP FROM THE ROAD HITTING THE WINDSHIELD AND CAUSING A LARGE CRACK RUNNING ACROSS THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS OCCURRED IN MY BRAND NEW VEHICLE THAT WE HAD ONLY HAD FOR THREE WEEKS AT THE TIME. OUR OTHER FORESTER WE HAVE HAD FOR MANY YEARS, ENCOUNTERING SIMILAR SITUATIONS WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD. I CONTACTED SUBARU OF AMERICA TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF THIS OCCURRENCE AS IT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITH MINIMAL IMPACT FROM A VERY SMALL OBJECT.
THIS COMPLAINT RELATES TO THE UNSAFE NATURE OF THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE ON OUR 2019 SUBARU FORESTER. THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS THE ENGINE OFF WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP, AT A STOP SIGN FOR EXAMPLE. IT THEN TAKES A SECOND OR MORE FOR THE ENGINE TO START AGAIN AFTER TAKING YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. THIS HESITATION IS VERY UNSAFE IN ANY SITUATION WHERE THERE IS A NEED FOR THE VEHICLE TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF APPROACHING DANGER, SUCH AS AN OUT-OF-CONTROL VEHICLE COMING AT THE CAR. THE HESITATION IN MOVEMENT CAUSED BY THIS FEATURE COULD EASILY MEAN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING HIT AND GETTING OUT OF THE WAY. THE FEATURE'S DEFAULT SETTING IS "ON." EVEN IF YOU TURN IT OFF, THE NEXT TIME YOU START THE CAR IT WILL BE BACK ON AGAIN. IT WOULD BE MUCH SAFER IF THE FEATURE'S DEFAULT SETTING WAS "OFF." THE SUBARU DEALER SAYS THEY CANNOT CHANGE THE DEFAULT SETTING TO "OFF." I HAVE WRITTEN TO SUBARU SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY ARE UNRESPONSIVE. THE CAR IS CLEARLY LESS SAFE TO OPERATE WITH THE FEATURE ON, SO SUBARU SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO CHANGE THE DEFAULT SETTING TO "OFF."
#1 ) WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE AT LOW SPEED THE CVT TRANSMISSION CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO JUMP FORWARD COUNTERING MY BRAKING CONTROL. #2) WHILE DRIVING THE VISUALS AND DRIVER ASSIST ALERTS DISTRACT THE DRIVERS VISUAL ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE ROAD
COMPARE TO MY PREVIOUS 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. THIS 2019 SUBARU FORESTER IS VERY EASY TO GET CHIP IN THE SAME ROUTE OF GOING TO WORK FROM HOME. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY CHIP OR CRACK ON 2016 SUBARU FORESTER'S WINDSHIELD BUT I NOTICED THIS 2019 FORESTER'S WINDSHIELD HAS A LOT CHIPS ON THE WINDSHIELD AND COMPLAIN TO DEALER IN JUNE 2019 AND THEY TAKE A LOOK BUT SAID IT IS NOT A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND REJECT TO REPLACE IT. AT THAT TIME, MY CAR ONLY HAS AROUND 2100 MILES. RECENTLY MY CAR GET HIP BY ROCK AND THE WINDSHIELD IS START CRACKING FROM THE CHIP. IF SUBARU WANT TO HAVE THE SELLING POINT FOR EYESIGHT AND USE THE CHEAP WINDSHIELD TO SAVE THE TOTAL COST OF CAR AND GIVING CUSTOMER MORE PAINFUL EXPERIENCE. I WAS VERY UPSET THEY DID THAT AND LOSING MY TRUST TO THEM.
WHEN PARKING THE VEHICLE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING MECHANISM ENGAGES IN A WAY THAT AFTER LEAVING AND COMING BACK TO VEHICLE IS IMPOSSIBLE TO RELEASE TO START THE CAR BACK UP AGAIN. MY WIFE HAS BEEN STRANDED SEVERAL TIMES WHERE I HAD TO COME AND ASSIST IN RELEASING THE STEERING WHEEL BY ADDING THE FORCE AND WEIGHT OF MY BODY TO PULL THE STEERING WHEEL TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER TO RELEASE IT AND BE ABLE TO START THE CAR UP. THE DEALER(800 455 0701) PROMISED TO CONTACT SUBARU AND GET A RESPONSE ON HOW TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE. NO RESPONSE. THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER NOTED THAT THEY HAVE HUNDREDS OF CALLS PER YEAR ON THIS ISSUE. THE POTENTIAL OF GETTING STUCK IN A UNSAFE AREA ( EMERGENCY NEED TO TRAVEL, STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY, SNOW STORM REQUIRES TEMPORARY STOP, LATE EVENING PARKING AREA, REMOTE COUNTY PARK OR STATE PARK OR FEDERAL PARK) ARE ALL POSSIBLE AND COULD BE DANGEROUS. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED.
NOTICED A HALF INCH CRACK ON FAR PASSENGER SIDE OF WINDSHIELD. NO IDEA HOW IT HAPPENED. NO MEMORY OF A STONE HITTING THE CAR. REPAIRED AT SAFELITE. TOLD LIKELY WILL NEED REPLACEMENT DUE TO LOCATION OF CRACK (CLOSE TO FRAME) TOLD TO MONITOR. SINCE THEN MULTIPLE CHIPS/NICKS TO WINDSHIELD. AGAIN, NO ROCKS/STONES. JUST TINY NICKS IN GLASS THAT ARE SOMETIMES VISIBLE AND SOMETIMES NOT. CONCERNED OVER LONGEVITY OVER WINDSHIELD. 11 YEAR OLD CAR WINDSHIELD IN BETTER SHAPE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED DOWN THE MIDDLE WITHOUT IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MILLER SUBARU (1592 NJ-38, LUMBERTON, NJ 08048) WHERE THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,000.
THE WINDSHIELD INEXPLICABLY CRACKED ALONG THE HEATER ELEMENT AND SPREAD UP INTO THE MIDDLE RIGHT OF THE WINDSHIELD, WHILE IN MOTION ON A FAIRLY EMPTY INTERSTATE.
CRACK OCCURRED ON PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD WITH IN OVERNIGHT. I HAVEN'T HEARD ANY ROCK HITTING SOUND.
I TOOK DELIVERY OF A 2019 SUBURU FORRESTER ON FRIDAY JUNE 7, 2019. LESS THAN 3 DAYS LATER THE ENTIRE STARLINK COMMAND HEAD UNIT FAILED LEAVING THE BACKUP CAMERA, RADIO, AUDIO, CELL PHONE AND NAVIGATION SYSTEMS INOPERABLE. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. A NEW UNIT MUST BE ORDERED.
WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED WHILE PARKED IN THE GARAGE. CRACK BEGAN AT THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD UNDERNEATH THE PLASTIC COVER AND FORMED A LARCH "S" SHAPED CRACK. CRACKS INTERFERE WITH THE EYESIGHT SAFETY SYSTEM AND VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING. CAR WAS ONLY 3 WEEKS OLD WITH 1600 MILES.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A ROAD GOING 45 A SMALL ROCK POPPED UP AND HIT MY WINDSHIELD CAUSING A CHIP IN IT. I'VE HAD MY FAIR SHARE OF ROCKS POP UP BEFORE AND HIT MY WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING, AND HAVE NEVER HAD ONE THIS SMALL CAUSE A CHIP. IT IS PRETTY MUCH DIRECTLY IN FRONT ON MY EYE SIGHT CAMERAS.
STEERING IS VERY SENSITIVE ON HIGHWAY SPEED -- ABOVE 50MPH. CAR IS RESPONDING TOO MUCH AND UNPREDICTABLE ON ANY SMALL MOVEMENT OF STEERING WHEEL.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY NOWHERE NEAR ANOTHER CAR, WHEN MY WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED. IT'S A HORIZONTAL CRACK ACROSS ALMOST HALF OF MY WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, ABOUT 19 INCHES LONG AND 14 INCHES FROM THE BOTTOM. I WAS OUT IN THE OPEN, NO TREES, NO OVERPASS, NO OTHER CARS NEARBY.
A CRACK HAS DEVELOPED IN WINDSHIELD. IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEGUN BELOW THE WIPER BLADE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. AND IS TRAVELING HORIZONTALLY ACROSS TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD, IN THE SIGHT LINE OF THE DRIVER.. THE CRACK IS APPROXIMATELY 36" LONG AND GROWING. YES, I KNOW WINDSHIELDS CAN READILY CRACK IF HIT BY AN OBJECT. BUT THIS APPEARS TO BE A DIFFERENT ISSUE BECAUSE: 1) THE VEHICLE IS NEW, ABOUT 2 MONTHS OLD WITH APPROXIMATELY 4500 MILES. 2) I KNOW OF NO SOLID OBJECTS HITTING THE WINDSHIELD 3) THE CRACK APPEARS TO HAVE BEGUN IN AN AREA PROTECTED BY THE HOOD LINE. IT WOULD BE HIGHLY UNLIKELY A STONE OR OTHER OBJECT ON THE ROAD COULD BE THROWN UP AND STRIKE THE WINDSHIELD BELOW THE WIPER BLADES. 4) WE FIRST NOTICED THE CRACK AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN STATIONARY, PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY, FOR 3 DAYS. 5) WE HAVING THE FIRST HOT DAYS OF THE YEAR (90+ DEGREES F). 6) AND YES, THE INTERNET HAS A NUMBER OF VERY SIMILAR STORIES INVOLVING 2019 SUBARU FORESTERS ENDURING CRACKING WINDSHIELDS WHEN STATIONARY.
OVER THE COURSE OF ABOUT THREE WEEKS, TWO DIFFERENT WINDSHIELDS HAVE BEEN DESTROYED BY VERY SMALL ROCK CHIPS THAT VERY RAPIDLY TURNED INTO LARGE CRACKS. THE FIRST OCCURRED ON THE FREEWAY, IN TRAFFIC, AT A RELATIVELY SLOW SPEED (APPROX 35MPH). I HEARD A SLIGHT TICK AND NOTICED A VERY SMALL CHIP ON THE WINDSHIELD (ABOUT THE SIZE OF A BUG). I MADE A NOTE THAT I WOULD NEED TO ARRANGE A REPAIR AND CONTINUED TO MY DESTINATION. AFTER BEING PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR, I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED I HAD AN 18 INCH CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD, DIRECTLY IN MY LINE OF SIGHT. I MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR A REPLACEMENT WHICH WAS DELAYED, I WAS TOLD, BECAUSE THERE WAS A BACKLOG OF FORESTERS AWAITING WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THE REPLACEMENT, AGAIN WHILE ON THE FREEWAY, I RECEIVED ANOTHER CHIP, WHICH TURNED INTO A 2 FOOT CRACK WITHIN ABOUT 2 MINUTES. THESE WINDSHIELDS ARE EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE DUE TO SUBARU'S "EYESIGHT" SAFETY SYSTEMS. THESE INCIDENTS HAVE EXPONENTIALLY INCREASED THE COST OF OWNERSHIP ON A VEHICLE THAT I PURCHASED SPECIFICALLY FOR ITS PERCEIVED LOW RUNNING COSTS. IN MY 25 YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE HAD TO REPAIR A FEW ROCK CHIPS BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A WINDSHIELD. NOW I WILL HAVE REPLACED TWO ON A VEHICLE LESS THAN 4 MONTHS OLD. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT SUBARU HAS USED EXTREMELY LOW GRADE OR DEFECTIVE GLASS THAT EASILY CRACKS, CREATING A VISIBILITY SAFETY HAZARD AND UNDUE EXPENSE FOR FORESTER OWNERS.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED VERY EASILY WITH SMALL ROAD DEBRIS MAKING CONTACT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE EYESIGHT COLLISION AVOIDANCE OCCASIONALLY DOES NOT FUNCTION DUE TO THE CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD.
WE OWN A 2019 SUBARU FORESTER SPORT. THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONTINUALLY FAILS TO REGISTER OUR DAUGHTER WHEN SHE IS SAT IN THE SEAT WITH THE SEAT BELT BUCKLED. SHE WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 100 POUNDS, IS 5' TALL AND 13 YEARS OLD. THE AIRBAG DETECTS HER ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME. IF WE ADD ADDITIONAL WEIGHT TO HER, SUCH AS MY PURSE IT WILL SOMETIMES DETECT HER BUT NOT ALWAYS. WE HAVE BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAY IT IS FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED BUT WILL NOT TELL US AT WHAT WEIGHT THE AIRBAG DETECTION SYSTEM SHOULD BE TRIGGERED. THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WHEN WE EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM.
THE REAR, AUTOMATIC TAILGATE PERIODICALLY FAILS TO OPERATE AND EFFECTIVELY LOCKS ONE OUT OF THAT AREA. THERE IS NO KNOWN BY-PASS OR WORKAROUND AND BASED ON SUBARU USER SITE, APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. IT ALSO SEEMS THAT SUBARU ITSELF DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE ISSUE AND HAS MANY EXPLANATIONS BUT NO SOLUTION OR WORKAROUND. IT REPRESENTS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD A PET BE IN THE BACK OR PERHAPS A PERSON AFTER A CRASH. WHEN IT FAILS, THE ELECTRONIC KEY, DASHBOARD BUTTON AND BUTTON ON THE GATE ALL FAIL TO OPERATE AND ONE IS EFFECTIVELY LOCKED OUT FROM THAT PART OF THE CAR. THE "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN" QUESTION NEEDS TO HAVE MULTIPLE ANSWER OPTIONS. MY WIFE AND I BOTH OWN A 2019 SUBARU FORESTER TOURING AND WE BOTH ARE HAVING ISSUES. WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE DRIVING. SMALL ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND LEFT A SMALL CRACK THAT SPREAD QUICKLY. REPLACED WINDSHIELD AT SAFELITE. NOW EYESIGHT SYSTEM TURNS OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON.
IN MAY A SMALL ROCK FROM HIGHWAY DRIVING NICKED THE WINDSHIELD OF MY CAR, PUTTING A SMALL SCRATCH IN THE GLASS. WITHIN HOURS THE SCRATCH HAD SPREAD INTO A MAJOR CRACK SPANNING 3 FEET ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. I HAD A GLASS WARRANTEE ON THE CAR FROM THE DEALER, WHICH THE DEALER DECLINED TO HONOR BECAUSE THE CRACK WAS GREATER THAN 12 INCHES, ALTHOUGH STARTING OUT AS ONLY A NICK. I SEE FROM CAR AND DRIVER THAT THIS HAS BECOME A CONCERN FOR AT LEAST 100 2019 SUBARU FORESTER OWNERS. I HAD SIMILAR DAMAGE ON MY 2011 ACURA RDX WITH A ROCK CREATING A SCRATCH ABOUT A QUARTER OF AN INCH LONG, BUT IN THAT CASE THE SCRATCH STAYED A SCRATCH. SUBARU MADE ME PAY FOR THE ENTIRE LABOR AND WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT COSTS ON A VIRTUALLY NEW CAR, APPROXIMATELY $1,100.
ACCIDENTALLY LEFT THE MOONROOF SLIGHTLY OPEN. RAINWATER GOT INSIDE THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL CAUSING IT TO MALFUNCTION .
WINDSHIELD BROKE WITHIN DAYS OF BUYING THE VEHICLE. NO KNOWN ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD. CRACK FORMED WHILE DRIVING AND HAS BEEN THERE EVER SINCE
A SEVERELY CRACKED WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED OVERNIGHT WHILE CAR WAS STATIONARY IN OWNERS DRIVEWAY. THE CRACK WAS IN THE FORM OF A SPIDER WEB WITH NO EVIDENCE OF IMPACT OF ANY KIND. THE AREA OF THE CRACKED WINDSHIELD WAS PERFECTLY SMOOTH, WITH NO DEFORMATION FROM ANY KIND OF IMPACT.
NEW CAR - 3 WEEKS OLD AND A 1,000 MILES. DRIVING TO WORK ON A ROUTE I'VE TAKEN FOR 5 YEARS. I WAS TRAVELING AT 60 MPH ON I-195 ON A RAINY MORNING, AND I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A SMALL ROCK HIT THE WINDSHILED BUT I COULDN'T SEE ANY DAMAGE. AFTER WORK WALKING BACK TO MY CAR I SEE A ONE FOOT CRACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, WHICH HAS NOW GROWN TO TWO FEET RUNNING HORIZONTAL. THERE IS A SMALL CHIP JUST BELOW THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER. THE CRACK HAS GROWN FROM THAT CHIP. VERY FRUSTRATING TO HAVE GLASS BREAK AND CRACK SO EASILY. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS I SAW THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH FORESTER GLASS.
ON 5/12/2019, A 6-INCH CRACK APPEARED IN THE WINDSHIELD AFTER THE CAR SAT IN A DRIVEWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE HOURS. IT WAS IN A RURAL AREA WITH NO TREES OVERHEAD. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF A CHIP OR DENT PRECIPITATING THE CRACK, NOR DO I (THE DRIVER) RECALL HEARING ANYTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD RECENTLY.
