VERY LOW ENGINE RPM WHEN COMING TO A STOP.IT, ONCE IN A WHILE WITH A/C RUNNING, KILLED THE ENGINE WHILE AT TRAFFIC LIGHT. IT CERTAINLY IS SCARY TO ALMOST HAVING AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF IT. PERFORMED RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE BY THE DEALERSHIP (TRANS FLUID REPLACEMENT, NEW SPARK PLUGS, NEW AIR FILTER), HOWEVER, IT DIDN'T FIX THIS VERY LOW IDLE ISSUE.
WE WERE COMING HOME FROM A FIREWORKS DISPLAY AT NIGHT AND MY SON TOLD ME TO TURN ON MY LIGHTS WHICH ALREADY HAD DONE, AND THE LOW BEAMS ON BOTH SIDES AND THE MARKER LIGHTS DIDN'T WORK. I TRIED TURNING SWITCH TO ALL POSITIONS AND THEY STILL DIDN'T COME ON. THE HIGH BEAMS WORK OKAY AND TURN SIGNALS FRONT AND BACK & BRAKE LIGHTS WORK. WE DROVE HOME WITH THE FOG LIGHTS WHICH STILL WORK. WE NEED THE CAR TO GO ON VACATION AND THE DEALER CAN'T FIX IT RIGHT AWAY AS WELL AS WHAT IT WILL COST THERE OR IF I HAVE TO HAVE SOME ELSE FIX IT. IT'S DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE ROAD WE DRIVE HOME ON HAS VERY LITTLE IF ANY LIGHTING AND THERE ARE TWISTS AND TURNS AND YOU COULD EASILY DRIVE INTO A STONE OUTCROPPING OR INTO HE WATER AT ANY POINT. I HAD MY WIFE AND TWO YOUNG NEPHEWS WITH US AS WELL. I CHECKED THE LIGHTS AGAIN TO MAKE SURE WHAT ONES WERE OUT, I CHECKED THE FUSES AS WELL TO SEE IF SOMETHING HAD BLOWN AND THEY WERE OKAY.THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON THIS AND OTHER WEBSITES ABOUT THE SUBARU LIGHTS. WITH ALL THE RECALLS OF EVERY VEHICLES OF EVERY 'DESCRIPTION, THE WHOLE AUTO INDUSTRY IS TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL AND NEEDS TO BE REIGNED IN, IT'S A HUGE SAFETY AND OVERALL QUALITY ISSUE NOT TO MENTION THE MILLIONS OF WORK HOURS AND TIME LOST BY TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVING TO DEAL WITH PROBLEM
THE FRONT (WINDSHIELD) WIPERS WILL NOT SHUT OFF. IN THE OFF POSITION, THEY RUN AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED THAT EQUATES THE SECOND HIGHEST SPEED POSSIBLE. THE WIPERS RUNNING ON A DRY DAY, A DRY WINDSHIELD IS A CONSIDERABLE DISTRACTION. IT IS BEING REPORTED WITH MANY OWNERS ONLINE.
I HAVE REPLACED MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ON THIS CAR 3 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED IT AND BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS GO TWO WEEKS AGO. SO NOW IT WILL BE 5 TIMES. I HAVE HAD THE CAR TWO YEARS. WHY AM I REPLACING HEADLIGHTS SO FREQUENTLY. I HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH MY CAR PRIOR TO THIS ONE, HONDA CIVIC 2002. I ALWAY HAD AN EXTRA BULB IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT SO I WOULD NOT GET A TICKET IF STOPPED. I REPLACED IT OVER 8 TIMES FROM 2002 TO 2015. I AM WONDERING IF THE MANUFACTURER IS THE SAME. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO REPLACE HEADLIGHTS SO OFTEN. PLUS, I CANNOT CHANGE MYSELF ON THIS CAR SO I HAVE TO PAY THE DEALER TO REPLACE. I CANNOT AFFORD THIS IN THIS ECONOMY.
MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS HAD A CONTINUE PROBLEM WITH LIGHT BULBS(HEADLIGHT - BRAKE LIGHT - PARKING LIGHTS) BURNING OUT. THIS MODEL DOES NOT HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC LIGHT TELLING YOU WHEN A LIGHT HAS BURNED OUT. AND WHEN I ASKED THE SUBARU SERVICE REP ABOUT THE DIAGNOSTIC LIGHT, HE SAID THAT EVEN THE 2015 MODELS DON'T HAVE ONE. AT MY 60K SERVICE, THE SUBARU SERVICE DEPT. HAD TO REPLACE A PARKING LIGHT. TWO WEEKS LATER, I HAD TO BRING THE CAR BACK IN TO HAVE THEM REPLACE A BRAKE LIGHT AND ANOTHER PARKING LIGHT. IN THE PAST, I'VE HAD TO REPLACE A HEADLIGHT AND PARKING LIGHT. I FEEL THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE I HAVE NO WARNING WHEN THESE LIGHTS BURN OUT, IN PARTICULAR MY BRAKE LIGHTS. WHEN I BRING THE CAR FOR SERVICE, I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE BULB REPLACEMENT. I FEEL THAT SUBARU NEEDS TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, AND ADD A DIAGNOSTIC LIGHT TO ALL THERE MODELS.

DRIVING DOWN A FOUR LANE ROAD AND WENT TO TAKE A LEGAL U-TURN AND THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED FREELY BUT THE CAR WENT STRAIGHT. THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS FLASHING AND THE TIRES DID NOT MOVE DESPITE ME TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. AWAITING AN UPDATE FROM SUBARU OF AMERICA. DEALER SAYS IT NEEDS A NEW STEERING SHAFT.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 65 MILES PER HOUR. HEARD LOUD CLICKING AND ENGINE LOST POWER. I WAS JUST ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT BEING HIT BY OTHERS. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ANYTHING BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. THE CAR HAS RECEIVED REGULAR CHECKUPS/OIL CHANGES AND WAS NOT DUE FOR ANOTHER OIL CHANGE YET.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO MAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE EACH TIME THE FAILURE RECURRED AND IT WAS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN INTERNAL FAILURE WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND THAT THE PART NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V326000 (POWER TRAIN). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,750.
MY CAR STALLS REGULARLY WHEN BRAKING QUICKLY, LIKE WHEN SOMEONE STOPS SUDDENLY IN FRONT OF ME. IT ALSO STALLS WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE TO STOP AT A LIGHT ON A HILL. THIS FAULT HAS PLACED ME IN SEVERAL HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS, INCLUDING STALLING ON RAILROAD TRACKS, AND IN BUSY INTERSECTIONS. WHEN I FIRST COMPLAINED ABOUT IT TWO YEARS AGO, SUBARU TOLD ME THAT IT WAS AN OXYGEN/FUEL MIXTURE ISSUE AND WANTED TO CHARGE ME $1200 TO FIX IT. BUT WHEN I SEARCHED ON LINE, OTHER SUBARU OWNERS WERE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE AND THE OXYGEN/FUEL FIX DIDN'T WORK FOR THEM AFTER SPENDING ALL THE MONEY TO FIX IT. AFTER LIVING WITH THIS FAULT FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS, I WENT TO ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP WHO TOLD ME ABOUT THIS TSB: DATE: 01/06/14 REVISED: 05/07/14 APPLICABILITY: 2010-12 MY LEGACY AND OUTBACK MODELS EQUIPPED WITH CVT TRANSMISSION SUBJECT: DESIGN CHANGE TO LOCK-UP TYPE TORQUE CONVERTER INTRODUCTION THIS BULLETIN ANNOUNCES THE AVAILABILITY OF A COUNTERMEASURE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY TO ADDRESS A CUSTOMER CONCERN OF VERY LOW ENGINE RPM WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THE CONDITION IS SIMILAR TO COMING TO A STOP IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED VEHICLE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH PEDAL. THRUST WASHER WEAR INSIDE THE TORQUE CONVERTER CAN CAUSE RESTRICTION OF THE OIL PASSAGE USED TO BLEED OFF LOCK-UP CLUTCH APPLICATION PRESSURE. THE RESULT IS EITHER A DELAYED (MOMENTARY LOW ENGINE RPM) OR NO LOCK-UP PRESSURE RELEASE. THE THRUST WASHER HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM A SOLID BUSHING-TYPE TO A NEEDLE BEARING TYPE. SUBARU WANTS $1500 FOR THIS TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY TO BE REPLACED. IF YOU SEARCH ON LINE, YOU'LL DISCOVER THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. THIS NEEDS TO BE UPGRADED TO A VEHICLE RECALL, NOT JUST A TSB. THIS IS A FAULT IN SUBARU'S CVT TRANSMISSION DESIGN THAT IS A DANGER TO EVERYONE DRIVING ONE. PLEASE HELP US IN ENFORCING THIS RECALL. MERGING AND ACCELERATING ONTO INTERSTATE AND ENGINE CUT OUT FOR APPROX 3 SECONDS WITH NO ENGINE POWER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND STAYED LIT. DROVE OK AFTER THAT. THIS IS A REPEAT OF THE SAME PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED THREE DIFFERENT TIMES LAST YEAR. DEALER ADVISED BOTH THEN AND NOW THAT AN ELECTRICAL HARNESS CONNECTOR WAS WORKING ITSELF LOOSE AND THEY WILL TIGHTEN IT. NO ASSURANCES GIVEN THAT IT WON'T RE-OCCUR AT AN INCONVENIENT TIME SUCH AS A RAIL CROSSING OR WHEN A SEMI IS BEARING DOWN ON ME. *TR
ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO MY CAR BEGAN TO STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP IE AT AN INTERSECTION OR STOP SIGN. THE CAR JUST SHUDDERS AND DIES. IT WILL START BACK UP. THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE, HAPPENING 1-2 TIMES PER DAY. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I FOUND A SUBARU SERVICE BULLETIN #16-90-13 DESIGN CHANGE TO LOCK-UP TYPE TORQUE CONVERTER LINKED TO A DESCRIPTION OF AN ISSUE LIKE THIS. WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE I MENTIONED THE SERVICE BULLETIN TO THE SERVICE COORDINATOR AND HE KNEW ALL ABOUT IT. THEY TESTED THE CAR AND THIS WAS CONFIRMED TO BE THE PROBLEM. MY CAR HOWEVER IS OUT OF WARRANTY. IT IS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD - NOT EVEN PAID OFF YET- BUT HAS >60,000 MILES. THE REPAIR IS NOT COVERED AND WILL BE CLOSE TO $1800.00. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL. I AM A REPEAT SUBARU BUYER AND IT SHOCKS ME THAT THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR CARS BETTER THAN THIS AND WOULD LET A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION GO ON WITHOUT PUTTING MITIGATION IN PLACE. *TR
AT A HARD, FAST BRAKE TO AVOID TRAFFIC CONGESTION ON THE FREEWAY, THE CAR STALLED AND DIED. IT LOST ALL POWER AND HAD TO BE RESTARTED. A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER IS THE CULPRIT. THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILURE IN THE SUBARU (NOT JUST OUTBACKS) HAS BEEN SHOWN TO RESULT IN A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER / STALLED ENGINE, WHICH CAN ENDANGER THE DRIVER AND OTHER DRIVERS. *TR
AFTER BRAKING MODERATE TO HARD WHEN THE VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP THE CAR STALLS WITHOUT FAIL. IT OCCURRED WHILE MY WIFE AND 18 MONTH OLD WERE SLOWING DOWN/STOPPING ON A BUSY ROAD TO YIELD ONCOMING TRAFFIC BEFORE TAKING A LEFT TURN ONTO ANOTHER ROAD. WHEN WE FIRST BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO THE LOCAL SUBARU DEALERSHIP THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND SENT US ON OUR WAY. A FEW WEEKS LATER ON MARCH 10, 2015 WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK AFTER IT OCCURRED SEVERAL MORE TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T EVEN NEED TO DO A ROAD TEST, THEY KNEW THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. WE WERE LED TO BELIEVE THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT FOR THIS MODEL. THEY ALSO SAID THE TRANSMISSION (CVT) MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS WE KNOW WHO HAVE THE SAME CAR. OUR OUTBACK HAS 74K MILES ON IT NOW. THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 70K MILES. WE STILL OWE PAYMENTS ON THE CAR AND NOW WILL NEED TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX IT. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND WE HOPE SUBARU RECALLS THIS MODEL TO HAVE THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND CVT REPLACED. AT BEST PEOPLE WILL NEED TO SPEND THOUSANDS TO FIX THE ISSUE. AT WORST THIS PROBLEM COULD LEAD TO SEVERE OR FATAL INJURIES. *TR
AT ABOUT 40K MILES, MY DEALER MAINTAINED 2011 OUTBACK BEGAN TO HAVE AN ENGINE SHUDDER IMMEDIATELY AFTER MAKING A FULL STOP IN GEAR, E.G. AT A RED LIGHT. IT HAPPENS VERY INFREQUENTLY AND CANNOT BE REPLICATED ON COMMAND. THE NEAR-STALL IS SIMILAR TO NOT DEPRESSING A CLUTCH WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE SHUDDER IS VERY BRIEF. SOMETIMES DASH LIGHTS FLASH, BUT THE ENGINE HAS NEVER COMPLETELY STALLED. THE ONLY CONSISTENCY IS THAT IT ONLY OCCURS AT A FULL STOP IN GEAR. IT IS VERY UNSAFE WHEN THE NEAR-STALL OCCURS AT THE SAME TIME I'M TRYING TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC. THE HESITATION IS LONG ENOUGH TO MAKE MY ACTION DANGEROUS. SUBARU HAS HAD MY VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES, SOMETIMES FOR WEEKS, BUT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR. THE TRANSMISSION TESTED GOOD. TORQUE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED, AND IS A COMMON ISSUE FOR MANY OWNERS, BUT IT DID NOTHING FOR ME. THE ENGINE SHUDDER HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR 45K MILES. THOUGH THE ISSUE STARTED WHILE UNDER FULL POWER TRAIN WARRANTY, SUBARU WILL NOT PERFORM ANY SERVICES AT THEIR COST. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH 2010-12 OUTBACK OWNERS. A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE SUPPORTS THAT, INCLUDING A RELATED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED BY SUBARU. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS OCCURRING, NOR DOES SUBARU. IT IS FRUSTRATING TO HAVE A COMMON ISSUE WITH NO RESOLUTION.
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS, SUBARU IS AWARE AND HAS WARRANTED FOR 10 YEARS TO REPLACE THEM. WELL THIS HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY 2 MONTHS AND DIDN'T START TILL I HAD THE CAR FOR 5 YEARS. THE WARRANTY STARTS FROM THE TIME YOU BOUGHT THE CAR WHICH IS 2011, SO I HAVE LOST 5 YEARS. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW OFF THE LOT. SO AFTER ABOUT THE 6TH TIME IN A 8- TO 1 YEAR PERIOD, I ASKED SUBARU, WHY ARE YOU PUTTING A BAND AID ON THIS PROBLEM AND NOT FIXING THE ISSUE. THE SERVICE MANAGER @ SOUTH BLVD SUBARU IN CHARLOTTE NC STATED THAT IT'S A LOT CHEAPER FOR THEM TO CHANGE THE LIGHTS THAN TO FIX THE PROBLEM, THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM. I BUY CARS AND I DRIVE THEM TILL THE WHEELS FALL OFF, SO IT IS AN INCONVENIENCE FOR ME TO HAVE TO GO THERE ABOUT EVERY 2 MONTHS AND HAVE THIS HEADLIGHT REPLACED. AND MY 6 YEARS ARE ALREADY GONE FOR THE WARRANTY SINCE I DIDN'T START HAVING PROBLEMS TILL NOW. SO IN 2021 I HAVE TO START BUYING THE HEADLIGHTS, WHICH ARE NOT CHEAP OR IF I GO TO SELL THE CAR I HAVE TO TELL THE PERSON, BY THE WAY, THE HEADLIGHTS NEED TO BE REPLACED, THAT LOWERS THE VALUE OF MY CAR. IT IS NOT RIGHT THAT THEY KNOW THERE ARE ISSUES AND WILL NOT FIX IT. THIS SHOULD BE RECALL AND ALL THESE CARS NEED TO BE FIXED AND NOT HANDLED THIS WAY. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE FOR THIS REASON.
I OWN TWO 2011 OUTBACKS AND EACH OF THEM ARE CONSUMING LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WITH AT LEAST 4 BULBS CHANGED IN UNDER 50000 MILES. I HAVE FILED A SIMILAR REPORT FOR THE OTHER 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK I OWN AND CONSIDER THIS ISSUE SERIOUS BASED ON THE LACK OF LIFE OF THE PART REGARDLESS THE TYPE OF BULB REPLACED. MY PREVIOUS 2003 OUTBACK NEVER HAD A BULB CHANGED IN IT, YET THIS VEHICLE IS PLAGUED WITH BULB ISSUES AND COSTS. *TR
I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS AT LEAST 3 OR 4 TIMES ON THIS OUTBACK BASED ON THEM BURNING OUT PREMATURELY. I OWNED A 2003 OUTBACK THAT NEVER HAD THE HEADLIGHTS CHANGED, AND THIS IS HAPPENING TOO FREQUENTLY AND IS OCCURRING ON BOTH 2011 OUTBACKS I OWN. THE MOST RECENT LIGHT FAILURE WAS LAST NIGHT AS THE CAR STARTED. THE FIRST FAILED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER, AND THE SECOND ONE FAILED WITH 100 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY AND WAS NOT REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. CONSUMER RECEIVED VEHICLE REPAIRS AND WOULD LIKE REIMBURSEMENT. *TA THE CONSUMER STATED THE LEFT REAR WHEEL BRAKE HAD A LOCKED CALIPER, DAMAGED ROTOR AND A MISSING BRAKE PAD. THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT NEVER ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. *JB
WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT HEADLIGHTS MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE WE BOUGHT OUR OUTBACK. IT SEEMS MY WIFE IS DRIVING WITH ONE HEADLIGHT WAY TOO OFTEN. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND WE ARE NOT ALONE. ONLINE I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM CONVINCED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY SUBARU NOT TO MENTION IT'S A HUGE FINANCIAL BURDEN SINCE ACCESS TO THESE BULBS IS DIFFICULT EVEN FOR REPAIR SHOPS. *JS
THIS CAR IS SUBJECT TO PREMATURE AND FREQUENT HEADLIGHT BURN OUT. FOR EXAMPLE, BOTH HEADLAMPS WERE REPLACED BY DEALER IN LATE JANUARY 2014. THEY BOTH ARE BURNED OUT BY DECEMBER 2014, CREATING A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION. *JS
THE AIRBAG INDICATOR FOR THE PASSENGER WILL NOT REMAIN ON, EVEN THOUGH THE PASSENGER MEETS THE REQUIRED WEIGHT. *TR

SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN 2011 WE HAVE LOST BOTH DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS, ONE TAIL LIGHT AND THE DRIVER SIDE HEAD LIGHT TWICE. THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT ISSUE HAPPENED WITHIN THREE MONTHS. THIS SEEMS TO ONLY HAPPEN IN COLD WEATHER (TEENS AND TWENTIES). WE HAVE RECEIVED INSPECTION TICKETS FOR THIS ISSUE FROM THE POLICE. LOOKING ON LINE THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT HEADLIGHT BLOWING VERY QUICKLY. ALSO, SUBARU HAS A VERY POOR DESIGN FOR ALLOWING OWNERS TO REPLACE THEIR OWN HEADLIGHTS. YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE INNER FENDER WELL HAS TO BE REMOVED AND THEN IT IS A VERY TIGHT SPACE TO REACH THE HEADLIGHT TO REPLACE IT. CAR WAS JUST INSPECTED SEPT 2014. THREE LIGHT BULBS REPLACED. PRIOR TO THIS, WE HAVE BEEN REPLACING LIGHTBULBS EVERY FEW MONTHS. IT IS EXPENSIVE BECAUSE WE CANNOT CHANGE THE FRONT LIGHTS OURSELVES....IT HAD TO GO INTO THE SHOP. WE ACTUALLY NOW STORE BULBS IN THE GLOVE BOX BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS BURN OUT SO OFTEN. THE AIRBAG WARNING LITE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE CAME ON AND STAYED ON FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS THE LITE CAME ON AGAIN AND HAS STAYED ON. THE RESULT IS THAT THE BAG IS NOT ABLE TO DEPLOY IF THERE IS ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT THAT INVOLVES THE FRONT END. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING TO MY FAMILY , I TRY TO AVOID ANYONE FROM RIDING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK NEW AND LOVE THE CAR. HOWEVER IT HAS ONE PROBLEM WHICH HAS SHAKEN MY CONFIDENCE IN IT. THEY KEPT THE CAR OVERNIGHT AND SAID THEY TEST DROVE THE CAR BUT "COULD NOT DUPLICATE" THE PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THIS MUST BE SOME TYPE OF ELECTRICAL CONDITION. TAKATA RECALL : MULTIPLE DEALERS HAVE REPORTED THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THIS AIRBAG RECALL. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MORE THAN ONE DEALER IN MORE THAN ONE CITY WHO HAS GIVEN ME THE SAME RESPONSE. I DROVE THE CAR STRAIGHT TO MY SUBARU DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR HAD FAILED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT WAS TO REPLACE THE SEAT AT WELL OVER $1000. I WAS STILL LEFT WITH THE PROBLEM OF THE SEAT BELT CHIME. THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T DISABLE THE CHIME SO I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR A SOLUTION. WHAT I FOUND IS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2011 OUTBACKS. I DID ALSO FIND OUT HOW TO DISABLE THE SEAT BELT CHIME. BECAUSE THIS IS SUCH A COSTLY REPAIR AND A COMMON PROBLEM, I HAVE TO BELIEVE THERE ARE MANY SUBARU OWNERS DRIVING AROUND WITH UNPROTECTED PASSENGERS HAVING DISABLING THEIR SEAT BELT CHIMES AND HAVING NO AIR BAG PROTECTION. IN FAIRNESS TO SUBARU, I CONTACTED CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY OFFERED TO SPLIT THE COST OF THE REPAIR. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR IN THE AFTERNOON THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS FLASHING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND E-BRAKE ON. SUBARU OUTBACK VIBRATES IN STEERING WHEEL AND SEATS AT SPEEDS FROM 60 TO ABOVE. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN WHICH STATES THE STEERING COLUMN AND STEERING WHEEL GETS REPLACED. HAVE NOT FOUND ANY INFORMATION THAT THIS RECTIFIES THE ISSUE OR THAT IT MAKES THE CAR ANY MORE SAFE OR PLEASANT TO DRIVE. POSTINGS SUGGEST THAT THIS REPAIR DOES NOT IMPROVE THE ISSUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, ABS BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL (ALL WHEEL DRIVE) LIGHT AND CRUISE CONTROL LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING ALL AT ONCE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL THE LIGHTS FLASH BECAUSE MOST DRIVERS IGNORE JUST THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AT THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY I WAS TOLD THE SAME THING WITH THE ADDITION OF THE FACTS THAT THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM AND THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS WERE ACTUALLY DISABLED DURING THIS INCIDENT. DURING THE CONVERSATION IT WAS SAID THAT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, A "REFLASH " OF THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS NEEDED AND THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM ON SOME OUTBACKS. I ASKED WHY THERE WAS NO RECALL IF THE PROBLEM WAS KNOWN AND WAS TOLD THEY JUST FIXED THE PROBLEM WHEN IT HAPPENED. THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY PROBLEM SINCE IF THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE THE DRIVER WAS ON ICE OR SNOW OR WET ROAD , VEHICLE STABILITY WOULD BE COMPROMISED. GIVEN THAT THIS CAN STALL OUT AT ANY SPEED WITH ANY PRESSURE IN APPLYING THE BRAKES WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER, THIS SHOULD BE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL FOR SAFETY CONCERNS!!! I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT AN ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR IN MY CAR ON JANUARY 13, 2014 AS THIS IS A SAFETY MATTER. THE ROAD CONDITION WAS DRY AND THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 40 DEGREES. FIRST I BACKED OUT OF MY GARAGE ONTO THE ROAD, THEN SHIFTED TO THE D POSITION AND DROVE ABOUT HALF A MILE FORWARD. I NOTICED THAT THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN AS USUAL WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES AS I WAS APPROACHING THE FIRST INTERSECTION. I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL MUCH FURTHER THAN USUAL. I DID NOT SLOW DOWN TO A COMPLETE STOP, MADE A RIGHT TURN AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE. I DECIDED TO PAY CLOSER ATTENTION TO THE BEHAVIOR OF THE CAR DURING THE NEXT BRAKING PERIOD. I DROVE ANOTHER QUARTER MILE AND I HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES AGAIN AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN AS USUAL AGAIN, SO I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO MAKE A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED MOVING I HEARD A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE AND THE TACHOMETER ARROW WAS MOVING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN 2000 AND 5000 RPM. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE CLUTCH WAS STILL ENGAGED EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE CAR WAS NOT MOVING. THIS CONTINUED FOR 5-10 SECONDS UNTIL I SHIFTED INTO THE N POSITION AS I CONTINUED TO HOLD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE SQUEAKING SOUND DISAPPEARED AND THE TACHOMETER ARROW WENT DOWN IMMEDIATELY. START CAR ALL WARNING LIGHTS GONE AND CAR DROVE FINE. HUSBAND CHECKED CODES AND FOUND MISFIRE CYC 1,2 ONLY 3RD INCIDENT 1/30/2014 - LEAVING STOP LIGHT AND VDC LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR WILL ONLY GO ABOUT 3 MILES PER HOUR ENOUGH TO GET IT OFF ROAD AND ENGINE STALLS. MY FOOT BRAKE WENT TO THE FLOOR, NO TENSION, I TRIED IT OVER AND OVER AS MY CAR WAS ROLLING BACKWARDS, WENT TO HIT THE ELECTRONIC EMERGENCY BRAKE, NOTHING HAPPENED MY CAR WAS OFF ROLLING BACKWARDS OUT OF CONTROL PICKING UP SPEED, I THOUGHT THE ONLY THING THAT WILL STOP THIS CAR IS WHEN IT HITS SOMETHING, AND THANK GOD NO ONE WAS HURT! IT HIT THE ELECTRICAL BOX AND MAILBOX AND KNOCKED POWER OUT IN MY CUL-DE-SAC. THE ELECTRIC BOX FLIPPED OVER AND CAUGHT MY REAR TIRE AND STOPPED THE CAR! THIS WAS A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE, NO WAY TO STOP THE CAR!! VERY SCARY! I HAVE BEEN DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION SINCE I WAS A TEENAGER AND I AM 59. I HAVE VIDEO OF THE OFFICER PUSHING THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE NOT ENGAGING! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE, HE HEARD AN ABNORMALLY LOUD POPPING NOISE FROM THE SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ONLY ILLUMINATE ROAD TO ABOUT 15 FEET IN FRONT OF CAR. HEADLIGHTS WERE THEN ADJUSTED BY SUBARU DEALER WHO STATED THEY WERE AT THE MAX HEIGHT. LIGHTS NOW ILLUMINATE TO ABOUT 25 FEET IN FRONT OF CAR. EXTREMELY POOR VISIBILITY AT NIGHT. SUBARU DEALER SAID THERE IS NOTHING MORE HE CAN DO. *TR
