HELLO, MY FRONT HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR 3 YEARS, I REPLACED THEM AND THEN WITHIN THE YEAR OF REPLACING, THE ONE WAS BURNT OUT AGAIN. I THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM SINCE I'LL HAVE REPLACED THE LIGHT 3 TIMES WITHIN 4 YEARS. THIS IS ESPECIALLY A PAIN SINCE YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE TIRE OFF TO REPLACE A LIGHTBULB. *TR
THIS IS A LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT ISSUE. I HAVE REPLACED CLOSE TO 6-8 LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS OVER A YEAR AND HALF. NO ONE CAN FIND THE ANSWER AND SUBARU DOESN'T DEEM IT TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE, ALTHOUGH I DISAGREE. I HAVE HAD MY BATTERY TESTED FOR POWER SURGES AND THIS IS NOT HAPPENING. I'VE SEEN COUNTLESS OTHER POSTINGS FROM 2011 SUBARU OWNERS AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE. THE LOW BEAMS ARE BLOWING AND THE PROJECTION OF THE LIGHT IS NOT ADEQUATE FOR NIGHT TIME DRIVING. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE. I'VE ALSO HAD A SITUATION WHERE BOTH HIGH BEAM LIGHTS BLEW OUT AT THE SAME TIME. THAT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE. THE REPLACEMENT COSTS ARE ADDING UP BECAUSE THE LOW BEAM LIGHT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO WITHOUT BEING PUT ON A LIFT AT THE GARAGE. THANK YOU. *TR
THE PASSENGER AIR IS DISABLED WHEN MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER SITS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. BOTH WEIGHT APPROXIMATELY 120 LBS. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY IT WORKS AS DESIGNED BUT THAT MEANS MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER HAVE NO AIR BAG PROTECTION. SUBARU STATES THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM IN THE 2012 MODEL. THAT IS NO CONSOLATION TO ME. I READ THE AIR BAG SHOULD BE DISABLED FOR A 5TH PERCENTILE WOMEN WHICH IS 107 LBS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 2011 OUTBACK. *TR
2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BACK UP CAMERA DEFECT AND REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE BACK-UP CAMERA WAS NOT CENTERED PROPERLY, THE DRIVERS SIDE SHOULDER HARNESS INTERMITTENTLY WOULD NOT RETRACT FULLY. THEREFORE, CAUSING IT TO GET STUCK IN THE CLOSING DOOR AND THE HEAT REGISTER AT THE DRIVERS FOOT SEEMED TO BE PARTIALLY BLOCKED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE REASON WHY THE CAMERA WAS NOT CENTERED, WAS BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN HIT, AND IT WOULD COST $99.00 TO REPAIR IT.
PURCHASED THIS CAR 7/2011. NO PROBLEM WITH EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS UNTIL ABOUT ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE. HIGHBEAMS ARE FINE. NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THEM. RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE. AROUND 11/2012, REGULAR HEADLIGHTS(BOTH BULBS IN THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING )HAVE BEEN REPEATEDLY REPLACED. IN OCT 2013, BOTH BULBS ON DRIVER SIDE WERE REPLACED. WENT SEVERAL WEEKS LATER FOR MY STATE SAFETY STICKER, THE SMALL BULB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THEN IN FEB 2014, THE LARGE BULB ON THE DRIVER SIDE BURNT OUT AND WAS REPLACED. MAY 2014, BOTH LIGHTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE OUT. REPLACED THEM. THESE NEEDED TO BE DONE AT A GARAGE EACH TIME. JAN 2015, BOTH REPLACED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.NOW, FEB 12, 2015 AND AGAIN, BOTH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ARE OUT, AND NEED REPLACING. GOING TO TRY MORE HEAVY DUTY BULBS. HUSBAND HAS LEARNED HOW TO REPLACE THE BULBS THROUGH THE WHEEL WELL. I HAVE PAPERWORK FOR AT LEAST 7- 8 BULBS IN 3 1/2 YRS NEEDING REPLACEMENT. THINK SUBARU NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM IN EXTERIOR LIGHTS IN THE SUBARU 2011. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON I-65 THE CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN, THE CHECK ENGINE AND BRAKE LIGHTS BEGAN BLINKING. AND AS WE PULLED INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE BRAKES HAVING SEIZED. THE CAR WAS STARTED AGAIN BUT COULD NOT MOVE. THE CHECK ENGINE AND BRAKE LIGHT KEPT BLINKING. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR, THE BRAKES UNLOCKED AND THE CAR WAS ABLE TO BE TOWED TO THE SUBARU DEALER IN NASHVILLE. THE SERVICE DEPT. TECHNICIAN PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. WHILE THE TEST SHOWED THAT A "BRAKING EVENT" HAD OCCURRED, THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A CURRENT PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIAN DROVE THE CAR 50 MILES WITH A MONITOR, BUT EVERYTHING WORKED FINE. WE DID NOT WANT TO DRIVE THIS CAR ANYMORE SINCE THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DETECTED, AND BOUGHT A NEW OUTBACK TO DRIVE HOME. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IF OUR CAR HAD STOPPED IN A MIDDLE OR LEFT LANE OF THE EXPRESSWAY, WITH LARGE TRUCK TRAFFIC GOING 70 MPH., A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
IT IS NOW THREE HEADLIGHTS IN 24 MONTHS HAVE BURNT OUT. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS WITH MY CAR. *TR
SEAT BELTS DO NOT RETRACT COMPLETELY. THIS CAUSES THEM TO GET CAUGHT IN CLOSING DOOR AND POSSIBLE BECOME BENT AND UNABLE TO LOCK. DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE $99 TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED WITH THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ACTIVATED, THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ENGAGED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT BULB. THREE MONTHS LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM BULB FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM BULBS WERE REPLACED FOUR TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I WAS ON VACATION DRIVING HOME. WAS AT ABOUT 300 MILES INTO A 400 MILE TRIP. DRIVING 68 MPH ON A DIVIDED HIGHWAY. TEMP APPROX. 85 DEGREES, SUNNY DAY. ATTEMPTED TO PASS A VEHICLE ON A HILL. ACCELERATED ABOUT MAX ACCELERATION AND VEHICLE COMPLETELY CUT OFF ALL POWER WHEN ACCELERATION ATTEMPT OCCURRED. I HAD TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY W/O ANY POWER. TRIED TO RE-START THE VEHICLE WITHOUT SUCCESS. CAR DID TURN OVER FOR ABOUT ONE SECOND THEN SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. RESULT WAS A NEED TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. VEHICLE SAT OVERNIGHT. WHEN THE DEALER TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE IT STARTED. AT THIS POINT I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS SITUATION. BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN IN A SITUATION OF BEING ON A LONG TRIP, IN 85 DEGREE TEMP AND ATTEMPTING A HARD PASSING ACCELERATION ON A STEEP HILL. *TR
AFTER OWNING THIS VEHICLE BARELY 2 YEARS, THE 1ST HEADLIGHT (DRIVER SIDE) BULB BLEW OUT. TO REPLACE IT AT THE DEALERSHIP WAS $90 DUE TO THE DIFFICULTY OF REACHING THE BULB HOUSING - SO I WAS TOLD. THEN ABOUT 3-4 MONTHS LATER THE OTHER HEADLIGHT (PASSENGER SIDE) WENT OUT. THEN ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER THE REAR LIGHT BULB WENT OUT. AROUND 2 MONTHS AGO (12/20/2014) THE DRIVER SIDE HEAD LIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN AND THEN PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT LAST FRIDAY (1/17/2015). THIS IS A GREAT VEHICLE OVERALL, BUT I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT I'M CONSTANTLY REPLACING HEADLIGHTS (FRONT OR REAR). THIS IS VERY ANNOYING, EXPENSIVE AND DANGEROUS. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT HAS BURNT OUT 6 TIMES; SUBARU DENIES ANY UNDERLYING ISSUES, KEEP REPLACING THE HEADLIGHT; NO MORE WARRANTY AS THIS POINT; MAIN CONCERNS ARE SAFETY AND NUISANCE. *TR
THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM AND RADIO BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE VOLUME CONTROL. THE SYSTEM REFUSED TO CHANGE CHANNELS OR ALLOW YOU TO CONTROL THE VOLUME. IT EITHER BLASTED TO EAR-SPLITTING VOLUMES OR STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER. *TR
THE PASSENGER'S-SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BURNED OUT A WEEK AGO AND WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. ONE WEEK LATER, THE DRIVER'S-SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BURNED OUT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 15,000 MILES PRESENTLY. THE DEALER REPORTS THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN LATE-MODEL OUTBACKS. I LIVE IN ALASKA WHERE THE USE OF HEADLIGHTS IS MANDATORY ON SOME ROADS. FREQUENT AND UNANTICIPATED LOSS OF THE HEADLIGHTS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS WELL AS COSTLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND THE RPMS DECREASED TO LESS THAN 500. THE CONTACT PLACED THE GEAR SHIFTER INTO PARK AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC (CHIPP AUTO IN FAIRMONT, WV) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT BOTH SIDES. LIGHTS BURN OUT INDEPENDENTLY OF EACH OTHER. SO FAR HAVE REPLACED LIGHTS 3 TIMES 6 IN TOTAL. PROBLEM REPORTED AS AN ISSUE IN SUBARU FORUMN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS AND THE TAILLIGHTS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS AND TAILLIGHTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V602000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
THE ISSUE STARTED AT AROUND 25,000 MILES. MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK, UPON SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE OR FROM PARK TO DRIVE FROM A COLD START, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD PAUSE FOR A SECOND OR TWO THEN WOULD EXHIBIT A LOUD BANG/CLUNK AND THE CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD. WARMING THE CAR FOR SEVERAL MINUTES (~5-10 MINUTES) DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. I READ OTHERS WHO HAD THE SAME ISSUE SO AT 28,622 MILES (~1.5 MONTHS FROM THE FIRST INCIDENT) I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE SUBARU SERVICE/DEALER. UNFORTUNATELY THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE, LIKELY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY DID A TRANSMISSION RELEARN BEFORE TRYING TO TEST THE TRANSMISSION. THE CAR WAS FINE FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS AFTER RECEIPT FROM SERVICE, BUT THEN THE BANG/CLUNK/LURCH BEGAN AGAIN, ON AND OFF, UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS MENTIONED EARLIER (I.E., COLD START, SHIFTING INTO DRIVE, ETC.) UNTIL ITS FAILURE ON APRIL 22 (MILEAGE ~33,400, ~3 MONTHS AFTER BRINGING THE CAR TO THE SUBARU SERVICE/DEALER NOTED ABOVE). THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH, AFTER I HEARD A BANG FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL CONTROLLABLE, BUT ONLY FIRST GEAR WORKED. THE CAR TODAY (APRIL 23) IS AT THE SERVICE STATION TO DETERMINE IF IT IS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE OR A COMPUTER ISSUE. *TR
MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK CAME WITH OE CONTIPROCONTACT P225/60R17. THIS IS A TIRE OF CONTINENTAL THAT HAS AN 80000 MILE WARRANTY. THESE TIRES ON MY CAR WORE DOWN TO THE TIRE REPLACEMENT INDICATOR AT 36750 MILES. . I CALL CONTINENTAL AND WAS TOLD THAT OE TIRES ON NEW CARS ARE FOR DEFECT ONLY, NOT MILEAGE. I FEEL THIS IS A TOTAL RIPOFF ON THE PART OF CONTINENTAL TIRES AND A TOTAL MISREPRESENTATION OF MATTER. WHEN THE RETAIL TIRE HAS THE 80K WARRANTY. I FEEL CONTINENTAL SHOULD REIMBURSE ME THE PRO RATED AMOUNT ON THE $724 SPENT ON THE EXACT REPLACEMENT TIRES I PURCHASED. *TR
WE HAVE OWNED THIS SUBARU SINCE NEW. THE ORIGINAL HEADLIGHT BULBS BURNT OUT AT 58,000 MILES. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BULBS EVERY TWO TO THREE MONTHS, USING THE SUBARU RECOMMENDED H7 BULBS FROM SYLVANIA. THE CAR HAS BURNT THROUGH AT LEAST ONE DOZEN LIGHT BULBS.
MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK EXHIBITS BRAKE FAILURE INTERMITTENTLY UPON FIRST START OF THE ENGINE. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP WHILE I WAS APPLYING HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. AFTER A SERIES OF ACTUATIONS, THE BRAKES BEGIN TO WORK NORMALLY. TO DATE, THIS HAS NOT LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE AND AS A RESULT, HAVE INDICATED THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THE FAILURE DOES NOT OCCUR EVERYDAY, SO IT IS NOT SURPRISING THAT THE DEALER CANNOT REPLICATE. DURING THE FIRST VISIT, THEY INDICATED THEY FOUND A LEAKING HOSE THAT WAS THE CAUSE, BUT THEN THE ISSUE RETURNED. AT MY REQUEST, THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE FLUID, BUT THIS ISSUE RETURNED ONCE AGAIN. I HAVE CONTACTED SUBARU USA WHO ALSO STATED THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. *TR
THIS CAR IS A SUBARU OUTBACK 2.5I MANUAL 6SPD TRANSMISSION. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT WITH CAR IDLING, THE RPM'S GET VERY LOW AND CAR DIES. STARTS BACK UP RIGHT AWAY, BUT THEN AFTER IDLING FOR 15-20 SECONDS, THE CAR WILL DIE AGAIN. CONCERNED THAT THIS MAY HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING AS I HAVE READ REPORTS OF MANY OTHER MODELS OF THE SAME CAR DOING THE SAME THING WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG AND THEY WILL CHARGE A TON OF MONEY TO COME BACK AND TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. IT IS A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE IF THE CAR CANNOT HOLD AN IDLE AND/OR DIES WHILE DRIVING. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL FROM SUBARU, ON APRIL 2013, THAT REQUIRE TO REPLACE IMMEDIATELY MY REMOTE STARTER. I CONTACTED TWICE THE DEALER, SUBARU OF EVANSTON, SKOKIE, ILL AND AFTER 2-3 MONTHS THEY DID NOTHING. SUBARU OF AMERICA HAS A WEB ADDRESS WHERE A CUSTOMER CAN NOT REACH THEM. *TR
I HAVE HAD THE CAR SINCE AUGUST 2010 AND THE LOW LIGHT BEAMS KEEP BURNING OUT. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ONE OR THE OTHER THREE TIMES NOW. THIS TIME THE NEW BULB LASTED LESS THAN A YEAR. AND LAST YEAR I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE ONE OF THE HIGH BEAMS. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CAR THAT NEEDED HEADLIGHTS REPLACED SO OFTEN (ACTUALLY I'VE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A HEADLIGHT ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE I'VE OWNED). ALSO, I HAVE TO BRING IT TO A DEALER EVERY TIME THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE BECAUSE IT'S TOO DIFFICULT TO CHANGE MYSELF. IT'S VERY INCONVENIENT. THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT SO IT LEADS ME TO THINK IT'S A FAULT THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. OTHER THAN THIS, I LOVE MY CAR! *TR
THE LOWBEAM HEADLAMPS ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE AN UNUSUALLY SHORT LIFESPAN. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE HEADLAMPS HAVE FAILED WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF ONE ANOTHER LEADING TO AN UNSAFE VEHICLE CONDITION. THE DEALER AND SUBARU HAVE REFUSED TO PERFORM FREE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE HEADLAMP FAILURES AND SHORT LIFESPAN. *TR
FIRST I WILL SAY I AM AN ADULT FEMALE WEIGHING 120 LBS, SUFFICIENT WEIGHT TO ACTIVATE AIRBAGS. WE JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR AND WENT FOR LONG TRIP AND I NOTICED MY AIR BAG LIGHT WAS OFF. I TRIED TO ADJUST POSITIONS AND SOMETIMES I COULD GET IT TO COME BACK ON, ONLY TO FIND A FEW MINUTES LATER THAT IS OFF AGAIN, THIS PROCESS WAS REPEATED THE WHOLE 7 HOUR TRIP. WE WERE TRAVELING ON SNOW COVERED ROADS SO THIS WAS VERY UPSETTING TO NOT HAVE THE AIR BAGS WORKING. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEMS THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. WHAT GOOD ARE SAFETY FEATURES IN A CAR IF THEY DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE BRAKING, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE ENGINE MADE A KNOCKING NOISE AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE AND A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED THAT WAS UNABLE TO GENERATE A FAILURE CODE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION DRIVE BELT HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER WQE41; NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 12V602000.PUDDLE LIGHTS FOR 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. IN JANUARY 2013, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM SUBARU. . SINCE RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE, I HAVE MADE NUMEROUS, REALLY, NUMEROUS, ATTEMPTS TO HAVE THIS RECALL ADDRESSED BY MY LOCAL SUBARU DEALER. ALL ATTEMPTS TO HAVE THIS RECALL ADDRESSED HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. I HAVE BEEN REPEATEDLY TOLD THAT THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER. MY PUDDLE LIGHTS HAVE CEASED WORKING WHICH IS AN INDICATOR OF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WITHIN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WHICH MAY RESULT IN SMOKE OR FIRE ACCORDING TO THE NTSB. ON APRIL 8, 2017 MY LATEST ATTEMPT TO GET A DEFINITIVE ANSWER FROM MY LOCAL SUBARU CONCERNING REPAIR OF THE PUDDLE LIGHTS AND COMPLETION OF THE RECALL WAS AGAIN UNSUCCESSFUL.
WE HAVE A SUBARU OUTBACK THAT WE PURCHASED IN MAY 2011. IN JANUARY 2013 THE AIRBAG INDICATOR BEGAN TO TURN OFF RANDOMLY WHILE I WAS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND WITHOUT ANY CHANGE IN BEHAVIOR OR MOVEMENT ON MY PART WE HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE SYSTEM. I HAVE CALLED THE SUBARU COMPANY AND THEY SAY THE SYSTEM IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND SINCE THE DEALER CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM THERE IS NONE. THE COMPANY ALSO STATE THERE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINTS BY OTHER PEOPLE MY WEIGHT. (117 LBS.) THEY ALSO STATE THAT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT INFLATE IF THE INDICATOR FOR THE AIRBAG IS OFF. I HAVE EXPRESSED MY FEAR OF NOT HAVING AN AIRBAG IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT TO NO AVAIL. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED . *TR
DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT FAILED AT ABOUT 29,000 MILES. PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT FAILED AT ~32,000 MILES (ROUGHLY 3 MONTHS TIME ELAPSED BETWEEN EVENTS). *TR
While driving the car and stepping on the breaks really to avoid something in the road, the engine stalls and loses power requiring the driver to turn the key and restart the vehicle. My safety is a risk because if this happens on the street or highway with other vehicles around it could cause a major accident. This issue has not been confirmed by a dealer or independent service however, a call to my local dealership confirmed they have heard of this issue in the past and suggested it was the torque converter. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance or others. There were no warning lamps or any other indicators of this issue prior to the issue. They first started to appear a few years after owning the vehicle.
I WAS DRIVING AT 65 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND ALL OF SUDDEN THE CRUISE DISENGAGED, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BRAKE, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CAR'S LOSS OF SPEED COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS THE LOSS OF SPEED WAS FAIRLY DRAMATIC. DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY TO SEE IF THAT WOULD HELP, IT DID, BUT ONLY FOR A DAY. THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION WAS MOVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN ITS FRONT END COLLIDED WITH THE SIDE OF A CAR MOVING SLOWLY ACROSS ITS PATH. THE DRIVER'S SEATBELT WORKED PROPERLY. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
HEAD LIGHTS CONTINUALLY BURNING OUT
DRIVER SIDE HEADLAMP BURNED OUT, REPLACED AT DEALERSHIP AND 12 WEEKS LATER THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLAMP BURNED OUT. I AM SHOCKED THAT A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 20,000 MILES WOULD ALREADY HAVE TWO HEADLAMPS BURN OUT WITHIN WEEKS OF EACH OTHER. DEALERSHIP DENIES ANY KNOWLEDGE OF A PROBLEM WITH HEADLAMPS EVEN THOUGH INTERNET IS FLOODED WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. *TR
AS I WAS PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE THE CAR MADE A LOUD CLUNK AND I LOST POWER TO THE ENGINE. I WAS IN THE OPPOSITE LANE OF A TWO LANE ROAD AND HAD TO SQUEEZE MY WAY BACK INTO MY LANE BEFORE A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH AN ON COMING CAR. AFTER I SAFELY GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CAR HAD NO IGNITION CONNECTION. THE CAR WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT RUN. WHEN THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TESTED IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SIGNAL BETWEEN THE KEY AND THE IGNITION SYSTEM HAD BEEN BROKEN. AFTER THE KEYS WERE REPROGRAMMED THE CAR RAN JUST FINE. HOWEVER, I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND PLACE MY FAMILIES LIVES IN DANGER AGAIN. I HAVE RECEIVED NO ASSURANCES THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
REPEATED SEVERE SHIMMING OF CAR WHEN DIRT OR MUD GETS IN WHEEL WELLS. IN WINTER ANY SLUSH OR SNOW ON THE WHEELS CAUSES A CONTROL PROBLEM. CAR AND STEERING WHEEL SHAKE SEVERELY. ONCE INSIDE OF WHEELS ARE PRESSURE WASHED PROBLEM DISAPPEARS, ONLY TO REAPPEAR WHEN DIRT AGAIN GETS INTO THE WHEELS. DISCUSSION WITH THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ESPECIALLY IN WINTER. INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES THIS ALSO IS A COMMON PROBLEM ESPECIALLY IN THE 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK'S. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE WHEELS WHICH PICK UP DEBRIS ON A LARGE FLAT LEDGE. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS CONTROL OF VEHICLE IS COMPROMISED WHEN YOU HAVE SEVERE SHAKING. *TR
I BELIEVE MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED ON MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK AND IF THIS IS THE CASE THEN SOMEONE IN AUTO SAFETY DATA COLLECTION NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT IT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN AN OFF RAMP DURING SNOWY CONDITIONS. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AT AROUND 35 MPH AND THEY ABRUPTLY LOCKED UP. THERE WAS NO SHUTTER/SHIMMER EFFECT THAT I MIGHT EXPECT WITH ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AS THEY GO ON AND OFF WHILE TRYING TO GRIP THE ROAD. I APPLIED THEM AGAIN WITH THE SAME JOLT FOLLOWED BY SLIDING. I TRIED THIS SEVERAL TIMES AS I APPROACHED THE INTERSECTION. THOUGH THE LONG OFF RAMP DID SLOW ME DOWN, AT ABOUT 15 MPH (I THINK) I PLOWED THE LEFT FRONT OF MY CAR INTO THE FORD RANGER IN FRONT OF ME. THIS IMPRESSIVELY CRUSHED THE LEFT FRONT SIDE OF MY CAR AND MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE POINT OF IMPACT WAS THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FRONT BUMPER, BUT IT HIT AT THE UPPER 2-3 INCHES OF THE BUMPER. I'M NOT SURE IF THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED WITH THIS TYPE OF IMPACT, BUT IF THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DEPLOY THEN SOMEONE NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT IT TOO. *TR
2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEMS STARTED SHORTLY AFTER HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. ON TWO OCCASIONS, HE CAME CLOSE TO HAVING AN ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE PEDAL ARRANGEMENT. HE STATED HE REALIZED HE WAS CROSSING HIS RIGHT LEG OVER HIS LEFT LEG TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKE POWER ASSIST AMPLIFIED THE APPLIED FORCE VERY WELL, BUT AT TIMES THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED TO GET TOO CLOSE TO THE FLOOR BOARD. HE FOUND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HIGH WHEN THE ENGINE WAS OFF AND SANK TO A LOWER LEVEL WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED. THE LEVEL COULD GET CLOSE TO THE OPERATING PLANE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ON ONE OCCASION, HE FLIPPED OFF THE COVER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS BRAKING ON A BARE STEEL PLATE. HE DISCOVERED HE WAS USING MORE NATURAL ERGONOMIC MOTION AND GOT TOO CLOSE TO THE RIGHT EDGE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE EDGES OF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ABOUT THREE INCHES. THE WIDTH OF THE SOL OF HIS SIZE 12 SHOE WAS ABOUT 4 1/2 INCHES. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS AN ENGINEERING DESIGN PROBLEM THAT INVOLVED THE VACUUM BRAKING SYSTEM, THE ACCELERATOR LINKAGE DESIGN AND ERGONOMIC.
I HAVE NOW REPLACED 3 LOW BEAM LIGHT BULBS IN MY CAR WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS. TWO ON THE LEFT AND ONE ON THE RIGHT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. BULBS SHOULD NOT BURN OUT THIS QUICKLY AND REPEATEDLY. *TR
THE CAR'S HEADLIGHTS BURN OUT AT A VERY FREQUENT RATE. REPLACING THEM IS VERY INCONVENIENT AND TIME CONSUMING SINCE YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE WHEELS IN ORDER TO GET ACCESS. DEALER CHARGES $100.00 TO REPLACE. SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SINCE MY OTHER SUBARU HAS NEEDED ONLY ONE REPLACEMENT SINCE 2004. *TR
2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO EXCESSIVE FRONT END VIBRATION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD ALL FOUR TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED, BUT THE FRONT END VIBRATION CONTINUED. THE FRONT END WAS ALIGNED, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. AT THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DEALER, THE CONSUMER PURCHASED FOUR NEW TIRES, BUT TO NO AVAIL.
WE ARE EXPERIENCING CHRONIC HEADLIGHT, TAILLIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT BURN OUT ISSUES. WE HAVE HAD THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT REPLACED TWICE AND THE LEFT HEADLIGHT REPLACED ONCE AS WELL AS THE TAILLIGHT AND BREAK LIGHTS REPLACED ONCE SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2012. WE DO NOT LIVE ON A BUMPY ROAD OR HAVE ANY OTHER ODD DRIVING CONDITIONS. WE DRIVE OUR CAR ONLY ON NORMAL PAVED ROADS IN A SUBURBAN ENVIRONMENT. OUR SUBARU DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. WE BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS WE NEVER KNOW WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE GOING TO BURN OUT. *TR
AS BRAKES WERE STEPPED ON CAR WAS SLOW TO RESPOND TO BRAKING PRESSURE. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROLL BUT FINALLY CAME TO A STOP BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. ON SUBSEQUENTLY STEPPING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL I HAD BRAKE RESPONSE, BUT IF I KEPT PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR. THIS IS UNUSUAL AS UP UNTIL THIS INCIDENT THERE WAS A VERY SOLID BRAKE FEEL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD STOP AND HOLD ABOUT HALFWAY TO THE FLOOR. ALSO OF NOTE AND REPORTED IS THAT AT 1500 MILE THIS CAR HAD STEERING VIBRATION AND STEERING CONTROL ISSUES, WHICH WERE FINALLY ADDRESSED AT 11,500 MILES. *TR
I AM ON MY THIRD SET OF HEADLIGHT BULBS CAR IS 23 MONTHS OLD AND BULBS KEEP BURNING OUT. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND NO RESOLUTION HAS BEEN FOUND. THIS IS THE LOW BEAM BULBS THAT BURN OUT. NOT AT THE SAME TIME USUALLY WITHIN 2-4 WEEKS OF EACH OTHER. *TR
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THERE WAS SUDDEN ACCELERATION AS IF THE CHOKE HAD TURN ON, SIMILAR TO WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE. IT LASTED ONLY A SHORT WHILE, BUT I DID HAVE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL. THIS ALSO OCCURRED ONCE BEFORE APPROX. ONE MONTH PRIOR THIS , WHILE PULLING INTO MY GARAGE. AM CURIOUS IF ANY OTHER REPORTS OF THIS TYPE HAVE BEEN REPORTED. *TR
I HAVE REPLACED MY HEADLIGHT BULBS 3 TIMES FOR EACH HEADLIGHT AND I ONLY HAVE 88,000 MILES ON MY CAR.

MY VEHICLE IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND I'VE REPLACED THE LOW BEAM BULBS 4 TIMES. IT IS NOT DRIVEN IN HARSH CONDITIONS AND I AVERAGE 14-15000 MILES PER YEAR. THE MECHANICS AND SERVICE PERSONNEL AT THE DEALERSHIP ADMIT IT'S A PROBLEM WITH SUBARU OUTBACKS. I'VE FOUND MANY REPORTS AND COMPLAINTS OF OTHER OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME BULB FAILURES. THE FREQUENCY OF THE BULB FAILURE OBVIOUSLY PRESENTS A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. I WOULD LIKE SUBARU TO CORRECT THIS DESIGN FLAW AND REIMBURSE ME FOR PREVIOUS AND FUTURE REPAIRS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ISSUE.
THIS VEHICLE IS HESITATING FROM A START, POSING A HIGH RISK OF CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WHEN ENTERING TRAFFIC. THE HESITATION OCCURS, ON AVERAGE, ONCE EVERY 300 MILES UNDER DIFFERING CONDITIONS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO SUBARU SERVICE FOUR TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY STATE THEY CAN?T SOLVE THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY CAN?T ?DUPLICATE? IT. I HAVE INFORMED THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN THAT IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT THEY REFUSED TO KEEP THE CAR LONG ENOUGH TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ASKED SUBARU FOR A REPLACEMENT BUT ALL THEY WILL OFFER IS YET ANOTHER APPOINTMENT ?TO ATTEMPT TO DUPLICATE THE CONCERNS?. IN THE MEANTIME, I AM FORCED TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM, WHICH OCCURS RANDOMLY WITHOUT WARNING.
