ON 5/30/16 THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL AGAIN. IT WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE "BRAKE" LIGHT WAS FLASHING ON THE DASHBOARD. I WAS PARKED ON A HILL AND COULD NOT ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE DUE TO MALFUNCTION. WHAT IF THE TRANSMISSION COG COULD NOT HOLD THE CAR? IT WOULD HAVE ROLLED DOWN THE HILL AND DONE UNTOLD DAMAGE. THIS ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE SHOULD BE RECALLED AS IT IS DANGEROUS AS A CRITICAL SAFETY ELEMENT OF THE CAR. THE 2015 OUTBACK HAS BEEN RECALLED IN AUSTRALIA FOR THIS VERY ISSUE.
CAR STALLS TO COMPLETE STOP MOTOR STOPS AND CAR IS DEAD LEAVING MY WIFE AND 3 YEAR OLD IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION FOR CARS TO NEARLY HIT TILL SHE PUTS IT IN PARK TO RESTART CAR I HAVE READ, IT IS THE TORK CONVERTER IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS A SAFETY CONCERN !!!!!
THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE ON THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT WORK MOST OF THE TIME. LAST EVENING IS AN EXAMPLE. PARKED ON SLOPE IN DRIVEWAY AND ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE. WHEN TIME TO LEAVE THE BRAKE COULD NOT BE DISENGAGED. IT WAS LOCKED UP. HAD TO MANUALLY DECOUPLE THE PARKING BRAKE WITH SPECIAL TOOL. MOST OF THE TIME THIS BRAKE CANNOT BE ENGAGED AS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS UNRESPONSIVE. THE "BRAKE" DASH LIGHT JUST FLASHES AND A 'CHIRP' IS HEARD WHEN THE BUTTON IS PUSHED. PARKING BRAKES ARE TERRIBLY IMPORTANT IN HILLY ENVIRONS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE THUS RECALLED/REDESIGNED TO A MORE DEPENDABLE SYSTEM (IE. MANUAL LEVER/CABLE BRAKE).
70% OF THE TIME I TRY TO ACTIVATE THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE, THE COMPUTER JUST 'CHIRPS' AND THE 'BRAKE' LIGHT ON THE DASH BLINKS. THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT ACTUATED THUS THE VEHICLE IS AT RISK OF ROLLING DOWN A HILL WITH NOONE AT THE WHEEL. THIS SYSTEM SHOULD BE RECALLED AT LEAST AND REDESIGNED TO A HIGHER STANDARD OF DEPENDABILITY. IT IS A BRAKE FOR GOD'S SAKE!!
REPLACED LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHT ON PASSENGER SIDE,8MONTHS LATER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THIS ALSO AFFECTS THE DAYTIME DRIVING LIGHTS EVEN THOUGHT THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS ARE USED AT A REDUCED POWER FOR DRIVING LIGHTS. HIGH BEAM NOW DOES NOT WORK ON PASSENGER SIDE. THIS HAPPENS IN ALL OPERATING CONDITIONS,WITH OR WITHOUT AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL ON OR OFF.
I HAVE TO REPLACE MY LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHT EVERY 3-4 MONTHS AT A VERY EXPENSIVE COST. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE.
THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG INDICATOR, WITH AN ADULT SITTING IN THE SEAT, RANDOMLY SHOWS THE AIRBAG ON/OFF. THERE IS NO CONSISTENCY TO WHETHER THE AIRBAG WILL SHOW AS FUNCTIONING, WHICH MAKES THE SYSTEM NON-FUNCTIONING BY ANY MEASURE. THIS IS A KEY SAFETY FEATURE THAT SUBARU ADVERTISES AND SELLS VEHICLES BY AND IT SIMPLY DOES NOT FUNCTION. SUBARU HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE AND THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT CLAIMS THAT THEY CANNOT FIND AND ERROR CODE INDICATING THERE IS AN ISSUE. THE IMPLICATION BEING THAT I AM MAKING UP THE ISSUE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SIMILAR ISSUE TO WHAT WAS OUTLINED IN THE 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA AIRBAG SENSOR RECALL. BOTH CASES INVOLVE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR FAILING WITH AN ADULT SITTING IN THE SEAT. IF YOU NEVER KNOW IF THE AIRBAG IS GOING TO WORK, IT IS A FAILURE OF THE SYSTEM. THIS ISN'T A PROBLEM THAT IS GOING TO BE RECOGNIZED OR FIXED WITHOUT A MANDATORY RECALL OR A LAWSUIT.
MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS BOTH WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE.
I CAN NOT KEEP THE VEHICLE CENTERED ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CARS WANDERS RIGHT OR LEFT AND REQUIRES CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT. THE CAR DOES NOT RETURN TO CENTER AFTER A TURN, STEERING ADJUSTMENT IS REQUIRED. THIS IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM.
VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY SHUDDERS AND STALLS WHEN COMING TO FULL STOP, REQUIRING SHIFT TO PARK OR NEUTRAL TO RESTART. FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE IS RAPIDLY INCREASING. DEALER CITED SERVICE BULLETIN 16-90-13R AND REPLACEMENT OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS NECESSARY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
STARTED VEHICLE AND CENTER COUNSEL WOULD NOT LIGHT UP. HEADLIGHTS AND FOG LIGHTS WORKED AND ELECTRIC WINDOWS WERE OK. SECOND INCIDENT: SAME AS FIRST - ALSO HEARD SOUND IN DASH THAT ACTED LIKE A LOOSE WIRE OR STRIPPED WIRE THAT HAD TOUCHED METAL AND SHORTED OUT. LATTER ON AFTER RESTING, THE ELECTRICAL CAME BACK TO THE COUNSEL.
VEHICLE STALLED ON INCLINES WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED CREATING A VERY DANGERS SITUATION. DEALER SIGHTED SERVICE BULLETIN 16-90-13R FOR DESIGN CHANGE TO THE CVT TORQUE CONVERTER BUT WOULD NOT ABSORB TOTAL COST OF REPAIR SINCE CAR HAS 107102 MILES AND OUT OF WARRANTEE. THIS SITUATION SHOULD CREATE A PRODUCT RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED.
OUR SUBARU OUTBACK (2011) HAS BEEN SHUDDERING AND DYING WHEN COMING TO STOPS. IT BEGAN DOING THIS APPROXIMATELY MARCH/APRIL OF 2016, AND THE ISSUE IS STILL NOT RESOLVED. WE TOOK IT TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE CENTER IN MADISON, WISCONSIN, VERY CONCERNED, IN MAY OF 2016, BUT THEY TOLD US THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. (HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE, SINCE IT DOES IT SO OFTEN?) WE TOOK IT IN AGAIN IN WINTER/SPRING 2016, AND THEY FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED WE HAD AN ISSUE AND TOLD US THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $1500-$1800! WE WERE CONCERNED, ESPECIALLY, BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE, AND, FURTHER, BECAUSE OF THE COST TO US TO FIX IT. IF SUBARU HAD IDENTIFIED AND DEALT WITH THE ISSUE WHEN IT FIRST STARTED, WE MIGHT HAVE BEEN UNDER SOME KIND OF WARRANTY. WE TOOK THE CAR HOME, DID SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT LOTS AND LOTS OF OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WE DESCRIBED TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP OVER A YEAR AGO. HOW COULD SUBARU NOT KNOW THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE? THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS OUT THERE! WE HAVE SINCE BEEN BORROWING MY PARENTS' CAR FOR LONGER DRIVES AND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. TODAY WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM SUBARU INDICATING THEY WERE GIVING US A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THE CAR'S CVT. GUESS WHAT? IT COVERS THE OUTBACK 2010-2015, THEY WROTE. HOW LONG HAS SUBARU KNOWN THIS WAS AN ISSUE WHILE FAMILIES LIKE MINE WERE DRIVING A CAR WITH A MAJOR SAFETY FLAW? I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DESK IMMEDIATELY AND TALKED WITH A REP WHO WANTED TO BE CLEAR THAT THIS ISN'T A RECALL, (REALLY?) AND THAT I'D HAVE TO CALL BACK TO FIND OUT IF IT'LL BE COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY EXTENSION SINCE, APPARENTLY, THE TORQUE CONVERTER, THOUGH RELATED, ISN'T "TECHNICALLY" THE CVT. HE SAID THEY HAD DONE A SIMILAR REPAIR, THOUGH, AND THE WARRANTY HAD COVERED IT.
VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY STALLS WHEN COMING TO RAPID STOP SUCH AS AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT RESULTING IN A HAZARDOUS SITUATION.
WHILE DRIVING TO APPROACH A STOP THE CAR STUDDERS, BEGINS TO LOOSE ENGINE POWER AND STALLS. IT THEN REQUIRES THAT THE CAR MUST BE PLACED IN 'PARK', THE KEY TURNED TO THE 'OFF' POSITION AND THEN RESTARTED.
PURCHASED MY 2011 SUBARU NEW AND HAVE ALWAYS KEEP THE UPKEEP. ABOUT A YEAR AGO MY TIEROD IN THE FRONT WENT BAD AND RUINED MY TIRES SO HAD TO GET NEW TIRES. THEN IT STARTED STALLING ALL THE TIME, AND NO ONE SEEMED TO WHY. ONCE AT AN INTERSECTION WHICH I WAS ALMOST HIT. THEN HAD TO CHANGE THE TIMING BELT, BUT KNEW THIS WHEN I BOUGHT IT. THEN THE MUFFLER RUSTED AND NOW I WILL HAVE TO CHANGE THE HEAD GASKETS. I PURCHASED THIS CAR BECAUSE EVERYONE SAID IT WOULD LAST FOREVER. WELL I GUESS IT WILL IF YOU KEEP FIXING EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH IT. THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST SUBARU I WILL EVER BUY. HAD BETTER LUCK WITH MY OLD DODGE CARAVAN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
MY TRANSMISSION WAS SERVICED FOR A TORQUE CONVERTER RECALL AT THIS DATE. JUST A FEW THOUSAND MILES LATER MY TRANSMISSION CONTINUES TO DETERIORATE.IT MAKES LOUD NOISES WHILE DRIVING. MY SUBARU DEALER INDICATES THE TRANSMISSION COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME AND WILL FAIL EVENTUALLY.SUBARU CORPORATE SAYS THAT THIS IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. THEY HAVE AN ARBITRARY 100,000 WARRANTY FOR THE ISSUE. I'M CONCERNED THE ISSUE WILL CAUSE ME TO BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. OR LEAVE ME STRANDED, BOTH OF WHICH ARE SAFETY ISSUES. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME RESOLVE THIS WITH SUBARU. SHOULDN'T BY TRANSMISSION WARRANTY HAVE RESET, WHEN THEY SERVICED THE TRANS FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER RECALL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.
I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE HEADLIGHT BULBS (LOW-BEAMS) REPLACED A MINIMUM OF 4 TIMES OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS. THE PASSENGERS SIDE WAS FIRST...THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THIS CONTINUES FOR NO APPARENT REASON. LAST NIGHT LEAVING WORK...THE PASSENGER SIDE IS OUT AGAIN. I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM THE ONLY SUBARU OWNER WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. REPLACING THEM IS NO EASY TASK AS AFTER INVESTIGATING, YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE WHEEL WELL TO GET TO IT. AGAIN...BOTH SIDES WILL NOW HAVE BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES WITHING THE TWO YEARS. MINOR ISSUE COMPARED TO THE OTHER COMPLAINTS, BUT NEVERTHELESS A SAFETY ISSUE.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, BRAKES APPLIED, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. VEHICLE PULLED OFF ROAD INTO PARKING LOT. VEHICLE TOWED TO SUBARU DEALER. VEHICLE INSPECTED, DEALER STATES REAR BRAKE LINE SEPARATED FROM COUPLING, DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. DEALER FURTHER STATES THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENT BRAKE LINES AVAILABLE ANYWHERE IN NORTH AMERICA, NOR DO DEALERS HAVE ANY INVENTORY. D3ALER IS FORCED TO CRAFT BRAKE LINE TO RETURN VEHICLE TO SERVICE.
MY VEHICLE HAS HAD 4 OF 6 IGNITION COULD FAIL DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION WITHIN A SPAN OF MONTHS. FAILURE HAS RESULTED IN SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE AND HESITATIONS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER UNPREDICTABLY AND FORCED US TO PULL OVER. SUBARU OF AMERICA HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR THESE COMPONENTS BECAUSE THEY ARE BEYOND THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD. IT IS UNLIKELY THAT FOUR COMPONENTS WOULD ALL FAIL SIMILARLY WITHOUT A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE PARTS OR A DESIGN FLAW IN THE AUTOMOBILE. THERE WERE TWO OCCURRENCES OF THIS FAILURE- ONE COIL FAILED IN SEPTEMBER 2014 AND THREE MORE FAILED IN DECEMBER 2015
SERVICE BULLETIN # 16-90-13 CAR STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THIS HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC AT STOP LIGHTS ANYWHERE I NEED TO MAKE A HARD STOP. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND IT WOULD APPEAR THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE FOR MANY OWNERS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL NOT JUST A SERVICE BULLITIN
THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE FAILED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THEM, BECAUSE, DUE TO THE FRONT END DESIGN, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO IT YOURSELF. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FAIL BECAUSE THE FRONT END DESIGN ALLOWS THE LIGHTS TO OVERHEAT.
THIS IS 4TH TIME THAT THE HEADLIGHT BLOWS OUT. IF IT'S NOT THE HEADLIGHT ITS THE POINT LIGHTS. I FILED A COMPLAINT ON DEC. 04, 2015 ABOUT OTHER COMPLAINTS. JUST NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT BLEW OUT AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL ROAD AT NIGHT THE OTHER NIGHT. JAN. 29, 2016. HIGH BEAMS WORK, LOW BEAM IS OUT. THIS IS GETTING FRUSTRATING AND SUBARU DEALER TELLS ME THERE ARE NOT RECALLS. I AM SICK OF PAYING AND TAKING TIME TO DRIVE 45 MINUTES TO THE DEALER TO GET THIS FIXED ALL THE TIME. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. I HAVE AN APPT. TOMORROW FEB. 2, 2016 WITH THE DEALER AGAIN TO FIX IT. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
THE SUBARU OUTBACK FRONT HALOGEN HEAD LAMP BULBS KEEP GOING OUT. HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH SIDES WITHIN THE LAST 8 MONTHS. NOW FRONT LEFT LAMP IS OUT AGAIN AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS FAIL PREMATURELY. NECESSARY TO FREQUENTLY REPLACE (LESS THAN 12 MONTH SERVICE LIFE).
VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND STALLS OUT WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND/OR SLOWING DOWN. THE VEHICLE MUST BE PUT BACK INTO PARK AND RESTARTED BEFORE IT WILL MOVE. THIS HAPPENED TO ME FOUR TIMES TODAY. THIS POSES AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS THREAT TO ANYONE IN THIS VEHICLE OR AROUND THIS VEHICLE WHILE IN TRAFFIC. ANYONE IN THIS VEHICLE IS A SITTING DUCK FOR AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL STALL OUT. I AM APPALLED AT THE FACT THAT I HAVE SEEN SO MANY OF THESE SAME ISSUES BE REPORTED AND NOT RECALLED YET. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED...REALLY - DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE OR GET SERIOUSLY INJURED FOR SOMEONE TO TAKE ACTION HERE??
HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE NEW. AFTER ONE YEAR OF USE BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE WITH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS BURNING OUT. AT THIS TIME I HAVE REPLACED AT BOTH SIDES AT LEAST 5 TIMES. I DO NOT HAVE THIS AMOUNT OF TROUBLE WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLES. I ALWAYS USE GLOVES WHEN REPLACING THE LIGHTS. REPLACING THE BULBS IS NOT EASY AS YOU MUST GO THROUGH THE WHEEL WELL. THIS CAN LEAD TO DELAY ON REPLACING THE BULB. GIVEN THAT THEY FAIL FREQUENTLY, MY CONCERN IS THEY WILL BOTH FAIL AT THE SAME TIME. I AM NOT HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH THE HIGH BEAMS.
PURCHASED SUBARU OUTBACK 2011 NEW. AT APPROXIMATELY 65,000 MILES LOW BEAM FRONT HEADLIGHTS BEGAN TO BURN OUT QUICKLY: 4 REPLACED OVER ABOUT 14 MONTHS. EXPERIENCED AN EPISODE 1/8/16 WHERE ALL FRONT LIGHTS COMPLETELY FAILED IN THE PARK AND DRIVE POSITION BUT LEFT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WORKED INTERMITTENTLY WHEN CAR WAS IN REVERSE. ALL FRONT HEADLIGHTS BUT 2 WORKED THE FOLLOWING DAY WHEN AT THE DEALERSHIP. BRAKE/REAR CAR LIGHTS ALSO STOPPED WORKING INTERMITTENTLY DURING THE TIME THE AUTO EXPERIENCED TOTAL FRONT HIGH, PARKING AND LOW BEAM FAILURE. WHETHER OR NOT REAR CAR LIGHTS WORKED WAS ALSO AFFECTED BY WHETHER CAR WAS IN DRIVE, PARK OR REVERSE AT TIMES.THIS DID NOT HAPPEN THE FOLLOWING DAY AT DEALERSHIP. REMEDY :SWITCH FOR BRAKE LIGHTS WAS REPLACED: THEY FELT IT COULD BE STICKING AT TIMES THUS CAUSING THE BACK LIGHTS INTERMITTENT FAILURE AND THE 2 FRONT HEADLIGHT BULBS WHICH WERE BURNED OUT WERE REPLACED.
VEHICLE HAS REPEATED LOSS OF LIGHTING DUE TO FREQUENT HEADLIGHT BULB FAILURE. THE LOW BEAM LIGHT BULBS HAVE SUFFERED ELECTRICAL FAILURE 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 1.5 YEARS. BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE HAVE BEEN AFFECTED EACH TIME AT THE SAME TIME. THE BULBS FAIL IN THE SAME MANNER EACH TIME, IN WHICH THE FILAMENT BREAKS OFF INSIDE THE BULB. THIS FAILURE IS TYPICAL OF EXCESSIVE VOLTAGES BEING APPLIED TO THE BULB, AND NOT OF "NORMAL WEAR." ALL 3 REPLACEMENTS, THE BRAND OF BULB WAS CHANGED TO DETERMINE IF A FAULTY BULB WAS MADE. HOWEVER THE ISSUE PERSISTS. CONTINUED FAILURE COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT SHOULD THE UNPREDICTABLE FAILURE OCCUR AT NIGHT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AS THIS FAILURE APPEARS TO BE COMMON AMONG MANY OWNERS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE ABS, BRAKES, TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE, AND CRUISE CONTROL INDICATORS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE HOME AND CONTACTED AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A FUNCTION TEST OF THE ABS PUMP/MODULE AND WAS ABLE TO CLEAR ALL THE CODES. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER ONE YEAR. MY OUTBACK IS STALLING AT RED LIGHTS AND SUDDEN STOPS. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS FAILING. THEY SAID SUBARU IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED DUE TO A SAFETY ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY WHO ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM.
HEADLIGHTS ON 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK CONTINUE TO BLOW. REPLACED ALL FRONT LIGHTS MULTIPLE TIMES. RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND WILL CAUSE CRASHES AS LIGHTS GO OUT WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE. SO FAR ONLY ONE HAS GONE OUT AT A TIME FOR I AM NOT HOLDING MY BREATH. APPEARS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUES THAT SUBARU FAILS TO STAND BEHIND THE ISSUE. CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT BE FORCED INTO PURCHASING ONLY SUBARU REPLACEMENT PRODUCT TO ACHIEVE SAFETY. THIS SOUNDS LIKE EXTORTION SINCE IT APPEARS THE ONLY ANSWER IS TO PURCHASE SUBARU ORIGINAL BULBS . THE CAR IS STALLING OUT WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AS THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I COME TO A STOP. I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC TO RESTART IT. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND CREATES A PUBLIC HAZARD. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AS SOON AS THIS HAPPENED AND THEY TOLD ME THE VEHICLE NEEDS A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER TO THE TUNE OF $2600. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, I FOUND SUBARU IS WELL AWARE OF THEIR PROBLEMATIC TORQUE CONVERTER SINCE THEY ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING IT. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY FAULTY EQUIPMENT THAT SUBARU IS AWARE OF AND SHOULD MAKE GOOD ON. THIS CAR HAS 80,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AS I BROUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN LATE 2011.
SUBARU OUTBACK HEADLAMP LIGHT BULBS BURN OUT EVERY 6 WEEKS OR SO EVEN AFTER CAREFUL REPLACEMENT. THERE ARE MANY MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE. YET NO RECALLORDERED? I DON'T GET IT!
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY HEADLIGHT 6 TIMES IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. I REPLACED IT LAST WEEK AND NOTICED TODAY IT IS ALREADY OUT AGAIN. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE EVERY TIME I HAVE TO REPLACE A BULB IT IS $40 WITH LABOR AND COST OF BULB.
ASCENDED STEEP HILL AND STOPPED AT STOP SIGN. PROCESSED TO DRIVE THROUGH INTERSECTION UPHILL. ALL LIGHTS ON DASH BEGAN TO FLICKER ON AND OFF AND CAR STALLED OUT GOING DOWN THE ROAD. AFTER THIS OCCURRED, I LOST ALL ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS OF CAR. I WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART CAR, PLACE CAR INTO PARK, APPLY EMERGENCY BRAKE, TURN ON HAZARD LIGHTS, AND THE POWER BRAKES AND STEERING WERE NOT PRESENT. I SPENT 5-7 MINUTES TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO STABILIZE THE CAR SINCE I WAS CURRENTLY GOING DOWN A STEEP HILL WITHOUT ANYWAY OF STABILIZING IT. AFTER THIS TIME, SMOKE BEGAN COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I HAD TO COAST CAR DOWN HILL INTO BUSY INTERSECTION AND TURN IT ONTO NEXT ROAD IN ORDER TO FIND A FLAT AREA TO STABILIZE CAR SO I COULD GET OUT OF IT. WHEN I GOT OUT, I BEGAN SEEING FLAMES DROP DOWN FROM FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF ENGINE AREA. THE CAR QUICKLY CAUGHT ON FIRE AND MOST OF THE ENGINE BURNT OUT BEFORE FLAMES WERE EXTINGUISHED. THE FIRE APPEARED TO START IN COMPUTER AREA. THIS CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW AND HAVE HAD NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR, EXCEPT WE HAVE HAD TO CHANGE THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS SEVERAL TIMES WHILE OWNING IT. AFTER I WITNESSED MY CAR CATCH ON FIRE AND AFTERWARDS DISCOVERED SUBARU HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER, I BELIEVE THE HEADLIGHT ISSUE AND THE TORQUE CONVERTER ISSUES ARE ALL CONNECTED. I BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR IS THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED THAT DAY CAUSING AN OVER VOLTAGE/OVER DRAW OF POWER THAT WAS SO BAD IT TOOK OUT MY COMPUTER UNIT, I THEN BELIEVE THE BATTERY CONTINUED TO FEED THE COMPUTER UNIT, IN ITS UNRESPONSIVE STATE, UNTIL IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE INSPECTOR TOLD ME SOMETIMES BULBS WILL BURNT OUT DUE TO AN OVER VOLTAGE SITUATION. SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY OVERDRAWING POWER AND IT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BECAUSE IT ENDANGERS EVERY DRIVER, PASSENGER, AND ANYONE AROUND THESE CARS.
HEADLIGHTS CONTINUE TO BURNOUT
OUR 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK PREMIUM 2.5I HAS HAD TO HAVE BOTH LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES. ONLY THE LOW-BEAM LIGHTS NEED TO BE REPLACED SO OFTEN. I HAVE DONE IT MYSELF SEVERAL TIMES, BUT ACCESSING THE LIGHT BULBS IS A DIFFICULT PROCESS THAT REQUIRES GOING THROUGH THE WHEEL WELL AND DOING EVERYTHING BY FEEL BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE WHAT YOU ARE DOING. NOW I JUST HAVE A REPAIR SHOP DO IT WHEN I HAVE IT IN FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE. IT IS GETTING OLD SAYING, "OH YEAH, CAN YOU REPLACE MY HEADLIGHT THAT IS OUT, TOO." THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF HEADLIGHT ISSUES ON VARIOUS VENUES ON THE INTERNET, AND I HAVE FRIENDS WITH A SLIGHTLY OLDER OUTBACK WHO HAVE HAD BOTH HEADLIGHTS GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME. THIS IS A FUNDAMENTAL PIECE OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT THAT SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES A YEAR. IN MY 2003 KIA RIO, I HAVE REPLACED HEADLIGHTS A TOTAL OF TWO TIMES IN 12 YEARS. ON MY OUTBACK, I THINK I AM UP TO 8 HEADLIGHT REPLACEMENTS (I HAVE LOST COUNT) IN 5 YEARS. I FEAR THAT SOME NIGHT WHEN MY WIFE AND CHILDREN ARE DRIVING HOME BOTH HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OUT AND THEIR SAFETY WILL BE JEOPARDIZED. I URGE SUBARU TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE.
CAR HAS A CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION. THE TORQUE CONVERTER WILL NOT DISENGAGE WHEN CAR COMES TO A HARD STOP. THIS CAUSES ENGINE TO DIE. THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. SUBARU IS AWARE OF PROBLEM. SUBARU ISSUED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 16-90-13R TO SPECIFICALLY ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. PROBLEM IS, MY CAR WAS WELL OUT OF WARRANTY BEFORE THIS ISSUE COULD BE IDENTIFIED. IT IS AN EXPENSIVE TRANSMISSION REPAIR. AGAIN, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. SUBARU SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO RECALL THESE CARS AND FIX THE TORQUE CONVERTER.
I HAVE REPLACED THE DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM LIGHT NOW TWICE WITHIN 4000 MILES. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING.
THIS VEHICLE MUST HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. SINCE THIS AUTO WAS PURCHASED I HAVE EXPERIENCED LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHT FAILURE FOUR TIME...TWO WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE TAILLIGHTS/STOP HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES. LIGHTS ARE AN ESSENTIAL PART OF SAFETY ON THE ROAD. SUBARU HAS A PROBLEM WHICH THEY HAVE NOT COME UP WITH ANY REMEDIAL HELP FOR THE CONSUMER.
I PURCHASED THE CAR (2011 OUTBACK) NEW IN OCTOBER OF 2011. SINCE THEN HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT LEAST 4 TIMES AND NOW (SEPTEMBER 2015) OTHER EXTERIOR LIGHTS ARE STARTING TO FAIL. IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I REPLACED THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT LESS THAN A MONTH AGO AND IT IS ALREADY BURNED OUT AGAIN. THIS IS A REPEATED PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS THAT WE'RE GETTING LESS AND LESS LIFE OUT OF THE HEADLIGHTS AS TIME GOES ON. THE SUBARU DEALER SEEMS TO THINK THIS IS JUST AN EFFECT OF DRIVING WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON (WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO, DRIVE WITHOUT LIGHT?) AND NOT AN ACTUAL PROBLEM WITH THE CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE CONTACT FORGOT TO SHIFT THE LEVER INTO THE PARK POSITION BUT WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY AND CRASHED INTO A GATE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED TO PERFORM IN THAT MANNER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,547.
THE BATTERY WAS NOT PRODUCING POWER AFTER 4 YRS. SERVICE. REPLACED BATTERY WITHOUT ANY COMPLICATIONS OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE IS NONFUNCTIONAL. SEARCH FOR ERROR CODES USING OBDII WAS NON-PRODUCTIVE. A BRAKE SHOULD WORK WHENEVER NEEDED, NOT WHEN THE COMPUTER (OR OTHER PERIPHERAL DEVICE) DECIDES WHEN IT SHOULD WORK. THE ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SHOULD BE ELIMINATED FROM AUTOMOBILE DESIGN. THIS SHOULD BE A HIGH PRIORITY SAFETY CONCERN AS PROPERTY AND PEOPLE ARE AT RISK FROM NON-FUNCTIONAL BRAKES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LINKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN AGAIN TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STRUTS AND SUPPORT BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON INDIVIDUAL INSPECTION THEY FOUND THE STRUT AND SUPPORT BEARING WAS NOT THE CORRECT SIZE FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED. UPDATED 11/01/16*LJ *CN
OUR 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS HAD AN EXCESSIVE NUMBER OF HEADLIGHT BULBS BURN OUT OVER THE PAST 18 MONTHS. OVER THE PAST 18 MONTHS I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 4 HEADLIGHT BULBS, 2 DRIVER SIDE AND 2 PASSENGER SIDE. THEY HAVE ALL OCCURRED AT DIFFERENT TIMES AND THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS BECOMING A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE AND A COSTLY REPAIR. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING IN THE DESIGN OF THE AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT SYSTEM DESIGN WHICH IS CAUSING THESE FAILURES.
