UNDER SUDDEN BREAKING VEHICLE STALLS. ENGINE STOPS AND HAS TO BE RESTARTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT STOP LIGHTS OR IN INTERSECTIONS IF ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT STOPS SUDDENLY. HAVE HAD THIS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF THE CAR NEEDS TO GET OUT OF THE WAY AND IS STALLED! SUBARU HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR YEARS YET DOES NOT CONSIDER IT A SAFETY ISSUE. I UNDERSTAND THIS HAS TO DO WITH THEIR CVT TRANSMISSION. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED.
THE TRACTION, OIL TEMP, BRAKE SIGN TURNS ON IN MY VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BRAKE SIGN IS A SAFETY ISSSUE.
WE'VE ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE WITH SUBARU AMERICA, BUT THEY DON'T RESPOND. 2011 PURCHASED NEW SUBARU OUTBACK. ALL REQUIRED SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE & SERVICES PERFORMED ON TIME AT AUTHORIZED PROVIDER. 2019 THE TIMING BELT, WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT REPLACED PER MFG STDS. DEALER ADDED COOLANT & BLED THE SYSTEM. 3 MONTHS LATER THE RADIATOR BLEW. A CHEMICAL BLOCK WAS DONE & ALL WAS FINE PER DEALER. 3 MONTHS LATER ENGINE OVERHEATED. ANOTHER DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED THE HEAD GASKET & CAT WERE CRACKED WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED BY THE PREVIOUS DEALER. SUBARUS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR HEAD GASKET & COOLANT SYSTEM ISSUES FROM 100,000 ' 120,000 MILES. SUBARU SLIGHTLY REDESIGNED THE HEAD GASKETS, BUT THE INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE IS AWARE THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE PROBLEMS WITH THE HEAD GASKET, CAT AND RADIATOR ARE WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET FOR 1990 TO 2011 MODELS. ISSUE STEMS FROM MANAGEMENT DECISION TO UTILIZE A COMPOSITE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE HEAD GASKET TO SAVE MONEY; HOWEVER, THE LONG TERM EFFECTS OF HEAT ON COMPOSITE METAL PRODUCTS WOULD SURMISE THIS WOULD LEAD TO WARPING, CRACKING OR OTHER RELATED PRODUCT FAILURES. THE DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION OF THE SUBARU HEAD GASKET WAS INEPT AT BEST. THE DEVICE FEATURES A MULTI-LAYER STEEL SHIM COATED WITH A GRAPHITE LAYER. IT WAS NOT UP-TO-THE-MARK & ALLOWED COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE EXHAUST PRESSURE &/OR COMBUSTION CHAMBER. THERE WAS NO SUBARU HEAD GASKET RECALL BUT THE COMPANY REDESIGNED THE CYLINDER HEADS & CONFIGURATIONS OF THE CAMSHAFT. HOWEVER, IT ONLY LED TO THE COOLANT A&ND OIL LEAK AT THE EXTERNAL HEAD GASKET. THIS SYSTEM DEFECT ADDS TO THE COOLANT SYSTEM FAILURE NOTED. WE REQUEST SUBARU AMERICA REIMBURSE US FOR THE TOTAL COST OF THE RADIATOR, THERMOSTAT & HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT AT $4,013.80. PLUS OTHER COST ASSOCIATED WITH THE BREAKDOWNS AT $1,236.20 FOR A TOTAL OF $5,250.00
I WAS DRIVING HOME TONIGHT AND THE CAR STALLED EVERYTHING QUIT WORKING, THE CAR JUMPED A FEW TIMES AND TURNED BACK ON. I LOST BRAKES AND NO STEERING COMING DOWN A 8 % GRADE. I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT KEPT DOING IT. I WAS OUT OF CELL SERVICE RANGE SO I COULD NOT CALL FOR HELP. IT WAS SCARY. I GOT HOME AND I SEE THERE WAS A RECALL BUT MY CAR IS OUT OF THAT RECALL RANGE AT 100000 MILES. I JUST PAID 11,000 FOR THIS CAR. I BELIEVE I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS KNOWN ISSUE.
A FEW WEEKS AGO, MY CAR STARTED STALLING OUT AT LOW SPEEDS WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE. THE CAR LOSES POWER AND FORWARD MOMENTUM AND THEN CATCHES UP AGAIN. STARTING FROM A STOP LIGHT AND ENTERING AN INTERSECTION, THE CAR LURCHES UNEXPECTEDLY, CAUSING A DISRUPTION IN FORWARD MOMENTUM-- WHICH IS VERY ALARMING FOR ME AND THE CARS BEHIND ME. I TOOK IT TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A VALVE BODY REPLACEMENT FOR THE CVT. I ASKED SPECIFICALLY IF THE CODES THAT CAME BACK SAID IT NEEDED A VALVE BODY REPLACEMENT AND WAS TOLD, YES.

TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED NOTICE AND RESPONDED. CALLED SUBARU DEALERS AND SOONEST THEY CAN SCHEDULE IS NOVEMBER 2019. ROUGHLY 7 MONTHS OUT. THIS RECALL IS A BIG DEAL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED IN A TIMELY MATTER. 7 MONTHS IS TO MUCH. WITHIN A MONTH IS ACCEPTABLE.
THE CAR IS STALLING OUT WHEN IN MOTION AND COMING TO A STOP. WHEN BRAKING TO COME TO A STOP, AT STOPLIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, OR ANYWHERE YOU NEED TO STOP, THE CAR TURNS OFF. TO START THE CAR BACK UP AGAIN, YOU HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURN IT BACK ON, THEN SHIFT TO DRIVE. I AM CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AS THIS IS OUR FAMILY AUTO.
TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED THE RECALL 3/3/19 MARKED "URGENT, IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL." MY SUBARU DEALER IN HYANNIS, MA INFORMED ME THAT I COULD GO ON A WAITING LIST SINCE THEY DO NOT HAVE THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. THEY EXPECT TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG AT THE END OF MAY OR IN JUNE. THIS DOESN'T FEEL URGENT.

TAKATA RECALL
STATIONARY, STARTED CAR AND WENT TO PUT IN REVERSE GEAR (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) ONLY TO HAVE IT GRIND AND POP OUT. UNABLE TO PUT IN REVERSE, NOW THE OTHER GEARS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY A DAMAGED REVERSE SYNCHRO BREAKING UP. EARLIER MODEL YEAR 2011 OUTBACKS WERE PART OF A TRANSMISSION (MANUAL 6 SPEED) RECALL FAILURE FOR LACK OF LUBRICATION- THIS IS A LATER IN THE YEAR MODEL SO NOT COVERED UNDER OTHER RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE BRAKE AND CRUISE CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AN UNKNOWN DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.
THE VEHICLE BEGINS MOVING FROM A STOP ON CITY STREETS AND THEN IT QUICKLY HESITATES ONE OR MORE TIMES BEFORE STAYING IN GEAR. THIS REDUCES CONSISTENT FORWARD MOTION, INCREASING THE RISK OF REAR END OR OTHER CRASHES. THE 2ND DAY WARNING LIGHTS FLASHED CONTINUOUSLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THIS INCREASES THE RISK OF DISTRACTED DRIVING CRASHES. SUBARU FOUND A FAILED VALVE BODY IN THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS THE TYPE OF DEFECT THAT SHOULD HAVE A SAFETY RECALL TO REDUCE RISKS OF CRASHES. SUBARU ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY IN JULY 2017 FOR THESE TRANSMISSION DEFECTS AND COVERED VEHICLES WITH OVER 100,000 MILES THROUGH JULY 31, 2018. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND LATER DATE APPEAR TO BE TO AVOID A SAFETY RECALL. VEHICLES THAT HAD NOT FAILED WERE NOT TO BE BROUGHT FOR REPAIR. HAD THERE BEEN A RECALL, THIS SAFETY ISSUE WOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED BEFORE JULY 31, 2018.

AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE FOR MAY OF 2019 TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
ENGINE STALLS IF STOP ABRUPTLY. CAR SHUDDERS ON ACCELERATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND UP HILLS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THERE APPEARS TO A BULLETIN 16-90-13R BUT IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. SUBARU SHOULD COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE.
DRIVING UP A GRADUAL HILL ON INTERSTATE. ENGINE WARNING AND MULTIPLE OTHER LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING. ENGINE LOST ALL POWER. COASTED OVER TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC AND STOP. TURNED OFF ENGINE. TRIED TO RESTART CAR AND IT WOULD NOT. SUBARU OUTBACK HAD 125,000 MILES AND ONE OWNER WHO HAD ALL MAINTENANCE SERVICES DONE, AT SUBARU DEALER, BY THE BOOK. HAD DRIVEN DOWN INTERSTATE AN HOUR BEFORE WITH NO INDICATION OF ANY CONCERN. I AM TOLD IT HAD THREE VALVE FAILURES.
MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK STALLS WHEN I ATTEMPT TO REDUCE SPEED AT INTERSECTIONS. THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH REQUIRES REPAIRS TO TORQUE CONVERTER AND VALVE. MY CAR WAS PURCHASED USED IN 2017 WITH 94,000 MILES, AND STARTED DEMONSTRATING SHUDDERING AND OCCASIONAL STALLING WITHIN WEEKS OF PURCHASE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE IN DECEMBER 2018 AND WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THAT MAKE AND MODEL, BUT 'UNFORTUNATELY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WE ISSUED HAS EXPIRED AND WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING.' I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND BELIEVE I WAS SOLD A LEMON, WHICH I'LL TAKE UP WITH THE DEALERSHIP. SOA CORPORATE ACKNOWLEDGED THE NATURE OF MY CAR PROBLEM AS BEING A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, BUT IN AN EMAIL RESPONSE TO MY PETITION FOR A GOODWILL REPAIR, I WAS TOLD AGAIN 'UNFORTUNATELY BECAUSE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED WE CAN'T HELP YOU'. SO SOA KNOWS IT MADE CARS WITH FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS BUT EXPECTS THE UNKNOWING CONSUMER TO PAY FOR IT OR ELSE BE OUT OF A CAR?
TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE, AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS TOGETHER PERIODICALLY TURN ON, AND OCCASIONALLY THE SPEED CONTROL LIGHT FLASHES. HAPPENS WHEN CAR IS STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING. NO CAR PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN AFFECTED, YET. UNKNOWN IF THESE "SYMPTOMS" POSE OR COULD RESULT IN A SAFETY ISSUE.
AUTOMOBILE @ 125,000 MILE ATTEMPTS TO STALL AT LOW RPMS AND STOPS. JERKING MOTIONS HAPPEN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE THE AUTOMOBILE FROM A STOP. DEALER REPORTS VALVE BODY NEEDS REPAIR. I UNDERSTAND A RECALL WITHOUT ADMITTING ANY FAULT BY SUBARU, YET THE RECALL HAD AN EXPIRATION DATE. THIS DATE NEED TO BE EXTENDED FOR THOSE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM SINCE THE RECALL EXPIRATION DATE.
THE TORGUE CONVERTER IS CAUSING NOISE, SHUTTERING, AND LATE DOWN SHIFTING REPLACEMENT OF A FAILING TORQUE CONVERTER HAS BEEN RECOMMENDED.
MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD WHILE DRIVING. WHEN SITTING IN THE CAR, IN THE GARAGE, THE MINUTE THE KEY IS TURNED, ALTHOUGH THE CAR IS NOT STARTED, ALL THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS WENT ON ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS STATIONARY. PICTURE UPLOADED TAKEN WHEN CAR WAS IN GARAGE.
TRANSMISSION CAUSES STALLING WHEN STOPPING REQUIRING RESTARTING OF ENGINE. SUBARU HAS ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM WITH A TSB AND EXTENDED THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS /100,000MILE. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX THAT CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR . ACCORDING TO SUBARU IT REQUIRES TEARING DOWN THE TRANNY TO REPLACE A SIMPLE BEARING AND COST TO CUSTOMER EXCEEDS 3000.00. SUBARU HAS FAILED TO NOTIFY CUSTOMERS AT THE PROBLEM MIGHT EXIST IN THEIR CARS THERE BY PUTTING CUSTOMERS AT A DISADVANTAGE FOR REPAIRING THE CAR. MY CAR HAS 114,000 MILES ON IT IS A 2011 AND IS WITHIN THE 10 YEARS BUT NOT 100,000 MILES I DON'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD RESPONSIBLE TO REPAIR A PROBLEM THAT THEY HAVE AT KNOWLEDGE EXIST AND IS A FACTORY DEFECT
MY CAR IS STALLING VERY DANGEROUSLY DUE TO A FAULTY TRANSMISSION THAT SUBARY ACKNOWLEDGED IS DEFECTIVE IN ITS PUBLIC RELEASE FROM 1/6/2014 SUBJECT-"DESIGN CHANGE TO LOCK UP TYPE TORQUE CONVERTER." WHILE IT EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM, I NO LONGER QUALIFY BECAUSE MY MILEAGE WAS EXCEEDED BY A FEW THOUSANDS. I CAN NOT AFFORD THE REPAIR WHICH IS ESTIMATED AT AROUND $4400 AND THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE I OWN AND NEED IT FOR WORK. DRIVING THE CAR IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT STALLS IN UNPREDICTABLE SITUATIONS. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED A FEW DAYS AGO AND I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY. THE SUBARU DEALER IS REFUSING TO MAKE THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD, WIDELY REPORTED AND CONCEDED BY THE COMPANY. I HAVE NO WHERE TO TURN AND I ASK YOU FOR HELP TO GET SUBARU AGREE TO FIX MY CAR UNDER THE TERMS OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH
HEADLIGHT AND OTHER EXTERIOR LIGHT BULBS DIE PREMATURELY. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM SUBARU ABOUT A WARRANTY EXTENSION AND THAT THEY WOULD COVER THE COSTS. SO FAR I'VE HAD 3 HEADLIGHTS GO OUT IN THE LAST TWO YEARS (AFTER 85K MILES) AND ALSO WAS TOLD BY A SUBARU DEALER YESTERDAY THAT 5 OTHER EXTERIOR LIGHTS WERE OUT. THE GENERAL CONSENSUS IS THAT IT'S A POWER SURGE IN THE LIGHTING/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT SUBARU ISN'T ADDRESSING. THE REPLACEMENT OF HEADLIGHT BULBS IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND RECOMMENDED THAT A SHOP OR DEALER DO THE WORK, MAKING IT VERY INCONVENIENT TO REPLACE LIGHTS. IT IS DANGEROUS TO HAVE THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT SO OFTEN WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT AND VISIBILITY IS REDUCED. THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL OR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED BY SUBARU, THAT I KNOW OF, AND A LAWSUIT PENDING. THE CONTACT HAD TO REPAIR THE HEADLIGHTS THREE TIMES AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS FOUR TIMES. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE LIGHTS WERE FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SUGGESTED THAT THE CONTACT CALL NHTSA. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
ENGINE SOMETIMES FALTERS AND DIES WHEN COMING TO A STOP; USUALLY ONLY IN THE FIRST FEW MILES OF DRIVING. SIMILAR TO WHAT A MANUAL TRANSMISSION WOULD DO IF YOU DON'T PUT THE CLUTCH IN, EXCEPT THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC. GIVING IT A LITTLE BIT OF GAS WHEN IT FALTERS CAN ABORT THE STUTTERING, BUT NOT ALWAYS, AND IT ISN'T ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO DO SO SAFELY WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO COME TO A STOP. I'VE ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR 3 MONTHS HAND IT'S HAPPENED 7-8 TIMES. TODAY, FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART AFTER IT DIED. TURNED OVER BUT DIDN'T ENGAGE THROUGH A HALF DOZEN TRIES, THEN WOULDN'T TURN OVER AT ALL. I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT ON A HILL. A MINUTE OR SO LATER, IT FIRED UP AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON.
WE HAVE PASSED DOWN MY HUSBANDS 2011 OUTBACK TO OUR TEENAGE DAUGHTER AS HER FIRST CAR. THIS CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF AND IS SERVICED REGULARLY. IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES $146,000. LAST YEAR IN JANUARY THE CAR ACTED UP AND THE HEAD GASKET, TIMING BELT, WATER PUMP WERE ALL FIXED ($3500.00). IN THE PAST EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THE CAR WOULD STALL OUT AT A LIGHT OR WHEN CHANGING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. 2 DAYS AFTER MY DAUGHTER STARTED USING IT AROUND TOWN SHE NOTICED IT STALLING EVERY TIME SHE WENT OUT. WE DID SOME RESEARCH AND APPARENTLY THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS A KNOW ISSUE WITH SUBARU AND AN EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS BEEN ISSUED RATHER THAN A REPAIR. WE BROUGHT THE CAR TO OUR SUBARU DEALER AGAIN AND THEY AGREED THAT IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND COULD BE REPAIRED FOR $1950. IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THE MILES ON THE CAR. THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED AS ANACCEPTABLE SOLUTION TO A PROBLEM. THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR THAT CAUSES THE CAR TO STALL. SUBARU SEEMS TO HAVE GONE AROUND THE ACTUAL PROBLEM BY NOT USING THE WORD "STALL" IN ITS DISTRIBUTION OF THE PROBLEM. THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL CARS THAT STALL WHILE DRIVING WHEN THEY PUT IN A FAULTY PARTS. IF MY HUSBAND DROVE MORE AROUND TOWN I AM SURE WE WOULD HAVE REALIZED THIS BEFORE BUT THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM THAT THE CONSUMER SHOULD HAVE TO TAKE ON... A CAR THAT IS KNOWN TO STALL SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE ROAD AND THE COMPANY WHO CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR IT... I EXPECTED MORE FROM SUBARU AND THEY WANT US TO PUT OUR FAMILY INTO THEIR CARS? WELL MY DAUGHTER WON'T BE DRIVING A CAR THAT ISN'T SAFE.
1. STALLING - CAR STALLS WHEN BRAKING QUICKLY - STALLS WHEN YOU COME TO A QUICK STOP. CAR IS IN MOTION AND WILL STALL AS YOU APPLY THE BRAKES QUICKLY AT AN INTERSECTION. 2. SHUDDERS - CAR SHUDDERS AS IT IS SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT (IN THIS SCENARIO I AM NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES). FEELS LIKE IT WILL STALL.
ALL OF THE LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING ON MY DASH. THE CAR HAS 114,000 MILES. IT IS A FAULTY VALVE BODY AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT. THERE ARE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. SUBARU QUOTED ME $7000 TO FIX IT. THE CARS NOT EVEN WORTH $5000. I AM OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I AM DONE WITH SUBARUS.
ENGINE OVERHEATING/LOW COOLANT LIGHT BEGAN ON HIGHWAY AT 86,000 MILES. REPAIRS NEEDED STATED IT WAS A CRACKED RADIATOR. AFTER REPAIR OF RADIATOR AT 800 MILES LATER, SAME LOW COOLANT LIGHT APPEARED WHILE DRIVING IN CITY ON SIDESTREETS AND ENGINE BEGAN MAKING 'SLOSHING' SOUND. REPAIRS NEEDED STATED IT WAS A DAMAGED WATER PUMP. AFTER REPAIR OF DAMAGED WATER PUMP, ENGINE STILL MADE 'SLOSHING' SOUND. FINAL REPAIR RECOMMENDATION WAS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET WITH POSSIBLE ENGINE RE-WORK REQUIRED AS ENGINE HAD PROBABLY OVERHEATED.
STALLS WHEN STOPPED
DOME LIGHT, CLOCK, SUNROOF, REMOTE KEY FOB, GARAGE DOOR OPENER ON REAR VIEW MIRROR, ETC. NOT WORKING. FUSES BLOW WITHIN A DAY OR 2 OF BEING REPLACED. ORIGIN OF PROBLEM UNKNOWN IN SPITE OF MANY ATTEMPTS AT FIXING IT. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR OVER 5 MONTHS. THESE DEVICES DON'T WORK WHETHER THE CAR IS RUNNING OR IN PARK.
THE CAR STALLS AFTER COMING TO A STOP. THERE'S EVEN A SERVICE BULLETIN # 16-90-13R COVERING THIS PROBLEM. THEY WANT $1500 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. SUBARU HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR A LONG TIME.
MY DASH LIGHTS ALL STARTED BLINKING. THE CAR ALSO LOST SOME POWER. I WAS TOLD I HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ENDED IN JULY 2018, CONVENIENTLY FOR SUBARU. THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE NEVER SOLD ME THE CAR LAST YEAR.
MY DASH LIGHTS CAME ON SUDDENLY.. AFTER RESEARCHING STATES TYPE TORQUE CONVERTER FOR TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.. SUBARU WANTS ME TO PURCHASE WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION, LOSS OF POWER AND GAS MILEAGE. THE CAR WAS RUNNING WHEN THESE LIGHTS CAME ON.
OUR OUTBACK HAS THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND CAN SWITCH BETWEEN MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC. WHEN IN AUTOMATIC IT WILL OFTEN SHUDDER WHILE STOPPED AND SOMETIMES STALL WHEN STARTING OFF (SIMILAR TO WHEN YOU YOU ARE IN 1ST GEAR IN A MANUAL AND YOU DON'T WORK THE CLUTCH CORRECTLY). WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $2500 TO FIX. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET, WE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR CARS WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND THUS FAR, SUBARU HAS REFUSED TO FIX IT AT THEIR COST. IN LIEU OF A RECALL (WHICH IS WHAT THEY SHOULD DO) THEY OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, HOWEVER THAT DOESN'T HELP US SINCE THE EXTENSION EXPIRED AT THE END OF JULY 2018. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM AND COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH IS THE CAR STALLS AS THE DRIVER IS TRYING TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC. SUBARU IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND SHOULD FIX IT AT THEIR COST.
CAR HAD BEEN HAVING TROUBLE STARTING LATELY SO BROUGHT CAR TO LOCAL SUBARU DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR FIX THE STARTING ISSUE SO I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP. ON THE WAY HOME I WAS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AND HAD COME TO A GRADUAL STOP AT A STOP LIGHT, AND WAS JUST GOING TO TAKE OFF ON A GREEN LIGHT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR STALLED. ALL OF THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS WERE FLASHING AND I IMMEDIATELY PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AS A SEMI WAS COMING UP BEHIND ME. I PUT MY THE CAR IN PARK AND STARTED IT UP AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND DROVE MY CAR BACK TO THEM TO BE CHECKED THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR A DAY AND TRIED TO RE-CREATE THE STALLING EPISODE WHICH WAS UNSUCCESSFUL.
BULLETIN NUMBER 16-90-13R. SUBARU IS AWARE THAT 2010-2012 OUTBACK AND LEGACY MODELS HAVE A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO SHUT DOWN/STALL WHENEVER YOU ARE BRAKING. I FOUND THIS OUT THE HARD WAY WHEN BRAKING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I WAS BRAKING AND THE CAR SHUTTERED AND THEN TURNED OFF COMPLETELY. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED. I ALSO FOUND THROUGH RESEARCH THAT IT COULD RUIN MY CVT TRANSMISSION. WHEN CONTACTING SUBARU THEY STATED THAT BECAUSE THE PART IS NOT A RECALL PART THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PART OUT OF POCKET. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS THE PART WAS KNOWN TO BE FAULTY AND TO CAUSE THE CAR TO SHUT OFF. HAD I GOTTEN HIT WHOSE FAULT WOULD IT HAVE BEEN.....
RECENTLY WHILE BRAKING HARD, MY CAR SHUDDERS AND STALLS. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON SIDE STREETS. IT CAN ALSO HAPPEN WITH REGULAR TO LIGHT BRAKING ESPECIALLY IF IT IS COLD. AFTER DIAGNOSING MY ISSUE, MY MECHANIC PRODUCED THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 16-90-13R WHICH DETAILS THE PROBLEM OCCURRING. HE AND SUBARU CONFIRMED THE REPAIR IS AT LEAST $6100. WHEN I CALLED SUBARU CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY TOLD ME THAT LETTERS WENT OUT TO ALL OWNERS LAST YEAR, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED THE LETTER, AND OF COURSE I AM PAST THE JULY 31, 2018 DEADLINE,SO THEY SAY I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE SPOKEN TO CUSTOMER SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES AND AM NOW CONSULTING WITH MY DEALER TO SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO FOR ME. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL AND NOT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO DEALERS AND A NOTICE TO OWNERS. I AM ALSO MAILING A CERTIFIED LETTER TO THOMAS J. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP, EXCESSIVE FORCE HAD TO BE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, IN ORDER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE INTERMITTENTLY OCCURRED. THE CRUISE CONTROL, OVERHEAT, BRAKE AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN AT A STOP SIGN IF THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT STEADILY BEING DEPRESSED THE BRAKE WOULD DISENGAGE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND VALVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED CONTINENTAL SUBARU DEALER (907) 562-2722, 4900 OLD SEWARD HWY, ANCHORAGE, AK 99503) WHERE IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TAKATA RECALL" I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE HWY. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON BRAKES, SO I STEPPED ON MY BRAKES, CAR TURKED TO A STOP WHILE ENGINE STALLED. DEAD STOP ON INTERSTATE. NOT A GOOD THING. I STARTED IT BACK UP, KEPT DRIVING, WHEN , I CAME TO A SAFER STOP SIGN. I TRIED TO STEP ON BRAKES LIKE I HAD DONE ON INTERSTATE AND IT TURKED TO A STOP AGAIN STALLING. IT DOESN'T SEEM SAFE TO ME. I AM GLAD NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME ON INTERSTATE OR I AM AFRAID IT WOULD NOT HAVE ENDED WELL.
THE VALVE GUIDES CAN PULL OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD CAUSING THE VALVES TO STAY OPEN.THIS WILL CAUSE A MISFIRE OR EVEN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHILE OPERATING. SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASING THE RISK OF CRASH.
IN OCT. 2018 SUBARU SENT ME A LETTER REGARDING THE SAFETY RECALL WTV-81 (NHTSA ID 18V-626). THIS RECALL STATES THAT THE MY VEHICLE'S ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) MAY CRACK OVER TIME AND THAT REMEDY PARTS ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE. IT IS NOW MARCH, 2019 AND A REMEDY STILL HAS NOT BEEN FOUND. I HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND IF MY EPB FAILS, THIS WILL CAUSE MY CALL TO ROLL AWAY AND CRASH. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I HAVE REPEATEDLY CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS FOR ME. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT IN HOPES THAT IT WILL PUSH SUBARU TO ACTIVELY FIND A REMEDY FOR THIS RECALL.

TODAY I TOOK IN MY SUBARU OUTBACK 3.6R FOR AN OIL CHANGE WHILE COMING HOME I HAD EXPERIENCED SOMETHING LIKE SOMEONE HAD HIT ME FROM BEHIND. WHAT HAD HAPPEN WAS WHEN I COME TO A STOP OR SLOW TRAFFIC AND BEGIN TO ACCELERATE I GET A MAYBE A LATE/OR A DELAY IN SHIFTING CAUSING THE CAR TO JERK OR A BANG. THIS REALLY CONCERN ME SO I'M TAKING IT IN TODAY.
MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK IS EXPERIENCING SHUDDERING AND STALLS WHEN GOING DOWNHILL OR UPHILL, COMING TO A STOP AT CITY STREET INTERSECTIONS, RESULTING IN THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF. IT OCCURS RANDOMLY AND I NEARLY GOT IN ACCIDENTS WITH DRIVERS BEHIND ME HAVING TO REACT TO THE SUDDEN, FULL STOPS. IN ONE WEEK, IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. I FEAR DRIVING IN THE CAR ALONE AND CERTAINLY WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR! UPON NOTIFYING MY SUBARU DEALERSHIP OF THIS EXPERIENCE, THEY STATED IT WAS AN UPDATE I NEED. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE FROM SUBARU OF SAID UPDATE. I HAVE BEEN DILIGENT WITH SERVICE AND ANY UPDATE/REPAIR SUGGESTED BY SUBARU DEALERSHIP. I FEEL THIS IS AN EMERGENT SAFETY CONCERN AND NOTIFICATION TO SUBARU OWNERS!
